Felicity s01e21 Episode Script

The Force

Previously on "Felicity" I was thinking about your question last night about dinner.
- Yeah, I'm - I'm really - - I think it's a good idea.
You do? You go up to her.
You say, "So, I got that summer internship in Berlin.
" If she looks upset, then she's still in love with you, my friend.
I got that summer internship in Berlin.
Wow, that's - that's great.
I mean - Congratulations.
Thank you.
"Omens ill and devil's bane, "decrease then cease as the dark moon wanes.
Fire burning.
" Meghan, what's goin' on? - What's it look like? - Yeah, I have no idea.
"Water carrying, Earth burying.
" Look, could you just keep it down? I'm trying to sleep.
Looks good.
Ow! Wha- Secret ingredient.
Look I don't know what you're doing - - Me neither.
- And honestly, I don't really care.
Except that it's 2:00 in the morning, and I need to sleep.
I love the smell of burning hair, don't you? - I have four finals this week.
- So do I.
Why the hell do you think I'm doing this? How is burning my hair gonna help you with finals? Wouldn't you like to know? "As these words are spoken, let this spell never be broken.
" - I'm going to the bathroom.
- Better watch out.
I put a spell on you.
It's a clumsy spell.
Great.
I'll let you know when it completely doesn't work.
Dear Sally you know I've always liked math and science, and I think it's because most of the time I'm a pretty rational person.
I mean I've never really believed in magic.
But the last few days Well, you have to hear this.
The whole thing started with Ben.
He did this really brave thing.
He called his mom and told her the truth, that he needed help.
But, because of the divorce, a lot of the money is tied up, but she's gonna send me what she could.
- Well, was it enough to cover everything? - Pretty much, pretty much.
Except I didn't tell her about the gambling, so all the money she sent me for my plane ticket home I have to use to pay off that scumbag Barry.
So Danny: So, there's something you gotta do.
Abby said so.
Forget it.
Danny uh, what is it? Well, I'd do it myself, but it's talent night at the orphanage.
- Are you in the show? - No! I'm an usher.
I hate this.
Danny, it's okay.
You're assistant manager now, and part of your job is telling us what to do.
It's okay.
Uh, Abby says we're shutting down Friday night for inventory.
You two have to do it.
There.
Happy now? - Wait a sec, wait a sec.
Inventory on a Friday night? - That sucks.
- Yeah.
Wait, so, what are you gonna do about your ticket? How are you gonna get home? I- I have no idea.
- You don't want me to help you clean this up, do you? - No, no, no.
I got it.
Felicity: Like I said, I never believed in magic.
But you know what I definitely do believe in? Fate.
That things happen for a reason.
I guess after I saw the card looking for someone to do a drive-away to San Francisco, that's when things really started to happen.
Yeah.
No, listen, I'm going to Palo Alto, so it's perfect.
Yes.
No, I'm done with my exams in a week, and I can leave any time after that.
Yeah.
- I gotta go.
- Okay.
Could you hold on for one second? Okay, thanks.
- What'd he say? - This is unbelievable.
The guy's moving with his family to San Francisco in a couple weeks, and all he needs is someone to drive his car down there.
So And he's gonna pay me to do it.
He's gonna pay me, like, 500 bucks.
You have the bomb luck.
Yes.
I gotta go to the library.
I'm gonna call you later.
Yeah, uh, sorry about that.
Well, I was thinking I'd come by on Wednesday and we could meet then.
All right.
Uh, I'll see you then.
And thank you very much.
Okay, bye.
So, are you excited about going home? Actually, I really am, yeah.
I'm gonna miss you over the summer.
Same here.
I am too.
I mean, it's gonna be weird not seeing you guys for so long.
But, um, are you guys - are you guys going away at all? - Me and Lynn? - Yeah.
No, I don't think so.
.
Actually, I've had feelings for someone else lately.
Really? Yeah, really.
That's too bad.
- Do you think so? - Well, yeah.
I mean, Lynn's a friend of mine, so, you know, I know how he feels about you.
How do you feel about me? I- I-I like you.
I really do.
It's just, you know, you've got a boyfriend.
I have a girlfriend.
So - so So it's kind of perfect.
I had no clue any of this was going on.
All I knew was that once he had the car situation figured out, Ben did something that seemed incredibly sweet at the time.
He invited Julie to drive to Palo Alto with him.
She was really happy.
I would've never even been invited if it wasn't for Julie.
At first I said no.
I didn't want to intrude.
But she insisted.
She said it would be more fun which was nice of her to say.
Anyway, that's when I decided to ask Noel, even thought I was sure he'd say no.
Yes.
- Wait, really? - Yes! What about your internship in Berlin? Well, it doesn't start until mid-June, so I got two weeks to kill.
- That's perfect! - I know.
- Hey.
- Hey.
So, bad news, uh, about our final project.
I need you, okay? You - you cannot drop out.
Of web design? Of course not.
It's just, you know all the work we gotta do, finishing the pages, and beta testing, getting the music to work, and - Yeah.
We gotta do all that camping out in line for Episode 1.
- What? - I'm in this group, like a Star Wars fan group.
You're not one of those crazy guys on the news who camps outside - the movie theaters? - Yeah, I'm one of those guys.
We're all taking turns sleeping outside the theater so we can be in for the first stow of Star Wars: the Phantom Menace.
- How long do you have to wait in line? - I gotta be there for, like, 48 hours.
- You can come and go whenever.
- Great.
Thanks.
Yeah.
We're gonna get a lot done standing in line.
I actually think that sounds like fun.
Stop? Are you kidding? No, I'm not kidding.
I don't want you putting any more spells on me.
Not only am I not gonna stop, I have an even better one I'm gonna do.
Oh, that reminds me.
I need a fingernail clipping.
I have to go to class.
I'm still doing the spell.
Felicity: Maybe I should’ve taken Meghan more seriously.
I definitely should have.
When I asked Elena to come on the trip, she said no.
She's looking for a hospital job in the city.
Good.
That's it for today.
Next time, we'll cover sex linkage and population genetics.
Thank you.
I'm starting to get that panicked finals feeling, like I'm so far behind I'll never catch up.
- We're going to the library right now.
- Why don't I meet you there? I have a question I need to ask McGrath.
Oh.
Okay.
Hi.
Hello.
I've been thinking.
Last week We, uh, we never did set a date, did we? No, we didn't.
Well, uh, um, are you free, maybe, Thursday night? Yeah.
Good, good.
So, um so, we'll meet at the bar at the Tribeca Hotel.
- Around 8:00? - I'll see you then.
- Why don't we take the northern route? - Yeah, no, no, that's what I was thinking.
I think we should go from New York, through Pennsylvania, over to Ohio.
And then, uh, and then Indianapolis.
We have to stop in Chicago because there's supposed to be really great blues clubs.
Okay, I want to go to Devils Tower, the place where they - they filmed, uh - - Close encounters.
- Yeah.
- Close encounters.
- Of the third kind.
That's it.
- What about Yellowstone? - I've never been.
- Oh, cool! Ben: We can go wherever we want.
I've always wanted to drive across country.
Here's to the road trip.
Yeah.
- To the trip.
- Felicity: So, there we were, the four of us, planning this trip.
Of course, none of us had any idea how complicated things would get.
Sorry.
Hey! What are you doing?! - I just need one more hair.
- Put my pillow down! Why are you so anxious? You're afraid of my power, aren't you? Oh, I am terrified of your power.
It's working.
You're clumsy, aren't you? I'm not clumsy, I'm late - Oh, my God.
That does not count as clumsiness.
Do you want me to teach you how to harness the force? No, thanks.
Fine.
I'm busy, anyway.
I'm working on a new spell.
- This time it's forgetfulness.
- Oh, that's excellent.
I'm sure that'll work.
- the Hardy-Weinberg law - Felicity: I'm not saying this proves anything, but after Meghan’s forgetfulness spell, things got even weirder.
That specific criteria are met? Yes, Miss Porter? There are no mutations, that there is random mating, and no, um That, uh Wait.
No mutations, random mating, and no God.
Uh, no something else.
Dr.
McGrath, can I You know what would be wonderful? If you could let someone else answer a question for a change.
Anyone? Anyone? Yes, Mr.
Riz? Um, no migration, no natural selection, and that the population is sufficiently large enough to prevent random drift.
Very good.
I turn the corner, there's a hot chick.
The elevator opens, hot chick.
I mean, I get in the subway - It's full of hot chicks, bro.
- Yeah, well, yeah.
You gotta move out of New York then, man, 'cause this place is packed with beautiful women, you know? I saw this girl crossing Broadway the other day.
Bananas, Ben.
I mean, she had legs up to my elbows.
And all the time I'm thinking, you know, if I wasn't so friggin' loyal, your boy would be swimming in a majority of very hot women.
But you like being with Nicole, right? Don't get me wrong.
I love being with Nicole.
I mean, that's my heart.
She's my wisdom.
- Here she comes.
- But-- - Radar.
- Hey, you.
- Hi.
Did you finish your paper? Not even close.
You know anything about Nietzsche? Nietzsche - what is it? Uh, God is dead, right? That's the rumor.
Anybody got any candy? I've got gum.
No, gum is not candy.
We've had this discussion.
I'm getting candy.
All right.
- Am I making you uncomfortable? - No, no.
I'm just I'm just reading.
I know that kiss was sudden.
Yeah, you know what, though? It happened, so let's just try to forget about it, okay, 'cause it was nothing.
All right? Every time I look at you, I just want to kiss you.
Do you want to make me uncomfortable? Is that what you're trying to do? Actually I want to do just the opposite.
- This is beautiful.
- Yeah.
And she better be beautiful when she gets to California.
Oh, no, we are very responsible.
None of us have ever gotten a ticket.
I almost did once, but I cried my way out of it.
I don't want you to go speeding nuts across the country in my baby.
No, no, no, no, no.
We will take as long as you want.
I don't need my baby for three weeks, so, uh, take your time, all right? I wash her every Sunday.
There is one ding on the front bumper.
That’s it.
Get out there, I see ding number two, I'm not gonna be a happy guy.
We will take really good care of your your baby.
I'm gonna go get my calendar.
I'll be right back.
Hey, check out the stereo.
Custom.
- I think you'll like it.
- Thanks.
This is unbelievable.
This is gonna be so much fun.
Oh, my God.
So much fun.
Sorry about the little ticket slip.
Yeah, what was that about? Um, I don't know.
I think I was nervous or something.
You know what we should get? A bunch of those books, like "Things Not To Miss Along the Way.
" I want to go to Graceland.
That's all I know.
No, we're not gonna go to Graceland.
Everybody goes to Graceland.
Oh, it was just a suggestion.
Hey.
So if, uh, if everything checks out, - uh, I guess we'll do this.
- That's so great.
I just need to, uh, get a copy of your driver's licenses.
Okey-doke.
Um, I didn't bring mine, but I know the number.
- Go ahead.
- It's C-2-4 C-2-4 8 - C-2-4 - Got that much.
Woman: Please help me, Obi-wan.
You're my only hope.
Okay, uh Oh, here's a good one, here’s a good one! At the end of Jedi, how many TIE fighters chase the Millennium Falcon into the second Death Star? - That's easy.
Six.
- Wrong.
Three.
The others were TIE interceptors.
Oh, that is a good one! Excuse me.
Um, not that you care, but every time I click on the music icon, the screen just goes black.
Give me 10 minutes, okay? Oh, hi! How are you? Just think, man, when you get back from Berlin, you're gonna be a whiz at this stuff.
Yeah except I don't think I'm going.
What? They nixed you? Oh, I thought it was, like, a done deal.
Well, it's a little more complicated than that.
Just before I got here, I was on the phone to Berlin to try to figure out housing.
Turns out I got the dates wrong.
It starts two weeks earlier than I thought.
So? So I told Felicity I'd go on this road trip with her.
Now - I don't know what to do.
- Whoa, whoa, hold the phone.
You're telling me you're considering a road trip with your girlfriend over the most prestigious internship in computer graphics? Um still not - not exactly my girlfriend.
- We're figuring things out.
- So you're thinking that if you don't go with her, she's gonna hook up with some other dude.
No! I'm thinking summer's the perfect time to solidify our relationship, and we can't do that if we're 6,000 miles apart.
You ask me, it's a no-brainer, man.
Internship all the way.
- Hello? - Nicole: Ben.
Yeah.
It's Nicole.
Can I come up? Um yeah, Lynn's not here.
I know.
I need to talk to you for two minutes.
All right.
Hey.
Hi.
I saw Julie in the library, and she said you were here.
You talked to her.
I just wanted to bring you some hot chocolate.
So when's your Econ final? It's on Thursday.
Um, what are - what are you doing here? I'm bringing you hot chocolate.
- Okay, you know what I think? - What? I think you should take this hot chocolate, and you should go give it to Lynn.
Lynn doesn't drink hot chocolate.
Look, I - I love Lynn.
He's a great guy.
I just - Lately we just haven't been clicking.
I just, uh - I really think you should talk to him about that.
I know it seems like I'm some nympho or something, but you're about to go away.
I'm not gonna see you all summer.
And everybody knows that the fastest way to get over a crush is to act on it.
I really think you should go.
- You're not attracted to me? - No.
No, that's not it.
I really - That's not it at all.
Then what is it? I think you know what it is.
So you want me to stop? Um, yeah.
Okay.
Hello.
- What is that? - It's some picture.
Some picture? This is the only one I had of me, Noel, Ben, Julie, and Elena all together.
It's not like they're dead.
You can get another one.
I can't - I can't believe you! Excuse me! This spell is gonna be so kick-ass! Look, just don't tell me what it is.
I won't have to tell you.
You'll know.
- Just say I'm not working.
- What? Hey.
Is Ben here? Uh, he's not working today, I guess.
Oh, okay.
Well, can you just tell him I stopped by? Thanks.
What was that? Nothing.
- I thought you liked Nicole.
- I did, I did.
She's just been sending me these signals that she's interested in me.
What kind of signals? she, uh - she kissed me.
- What? - Yeah, that was one signal, and then she came over last night.
She took her clothes off, which was signal number two.
- Oh, my God! - Yeah, but nothing happened.
- What did Julie say? She must have freaked.
- Well, I didn't tell her.
What-- what are you thinking? What do you mean? Not that I believe in that stuff, but Meghan put a spell on me, and I think it might be that I can read people's minds.
- You think you're reading my mind? - You're not having thoughts about Julie - I mean, second thoughts? - Oh, my God.
- It's not like that.
- It's not like I'm into Nicole.
I'm not.
- Then what is it? - I thought you could read my mind.
- I know.
I'm trying.
Julie and I are fine.
We're really fine.
We're okay.
It's just - Things are a little serious.
You know, everything she's been through and everything I've been through.
- Things get a little heavy sometimes.
- Okay, but now it's vacation.
You guys can just hang out, you know.
- Drive across country.
Have fun together.
- Yeah.
You two are perfect for each other.
I know, I know.
Good.
Okay.
But if you break up with Julie because Nicole did a striptease, - I will kill you.
- I'm not.
I'm not going to.
Okay, as long as we're clear.
We're clear.
All right? Hey, so, uh, what's up? Hey.
We figured it out.
Great, so the animation's working? Uh, no.
Okay, well, um - well, then, what - what did you figure out? We figured out your thing, with Felicity and the internship.
Oh, my thing.
Right, see, I don't need help with my thing.
I need help with the program.
Little friend, your true frustration is not about the program.
It is about the thing.
Who are you? Seriously, Noel, we realize that you deciding whether or not to go to Berlin, it's just like when Luke has to decide whether or not to go to Alderaan.
Remind him, please, what Obi-wan tells Luke about going to Alderaan.
You must do what you feel is right.
You must do what you feel is right.
Everything copacetic? Yeah.
You look a little tense, like you got a lot on your mind.
No.
No, I'm fine, man.
I'm really good.
Well, I do.
I got tons on my mind, man.
I can't concentrate at all, actually.
I keep thinking about Nicole.
Um, what about her? You're not gonna believe this.
Me and Nicole - You guys, you broke up or something? We're going to the Bahamas for two weeks.
Really? Bahamas.
- Tell me about it.
- Yeah.
That sounds great.
Yeah.
- Hi.
- Hi.
Can I talk to you? Listen, I I really think you're beautiful and sexy.
- I think you're sexy, too.
- Yeah.
But Lynn is a really good friend of mine, and I really like hanging out with him, and I'm having a tough time doing that right now.
You see, my good friend's girlfriend isn't just looking around.
She’s looking to do something about it, which puts me in a really tough position.
So what are you saying? That if you don't stop coming onto me, I'm gonna have to go tell Lynn.
Okay? Sure.
Okay.
- What are you doing? - I'm highlighting the travel book.
Did you know that the largest cherry pie is in Michigan? What, you don't find that interesting? I've been thinking about some things.
Things? Yeah, just about things.
Okay, are you - are you gonna be more specific? Do you ever think we're too serious? You and me? Yeah.
Why? - Um, do you? - Yeah, sometimes.
Yeah.
I mean-- What am I trying to say? We're, like - we're, like, 18 years old, and sometimes it feels like we're older.
Don't you feel that? You don't feel that? Did I do something? No, you haven't done anything.
It's really-- It's not about you.
It's really not.
Really.
Oh, my God.
- What? - You're doing the guy thing.
- What guy thing? - You act all confused, but you really know exactly what you're thinking.
Don't you ever feel that about us, that things just get too heavy sometimes? You don't feel that? If you mean that we had a hard year and that we've been there for each other, then, yeah, I guess things are too heavy.
- What, you don't want me to go on the trip? - No, I think you should come.
- You think I should or you want me to? - I-- I want you to.
Maybe taking a break is a good idea.
- Listen, I never said anything about breaking up.
- Yeah, I know.
It's a little tricky, huh, not using those exact words.
You'll need this.
I'm not going.
I walked out.
I just I couldn't listen to him anymore.
It was awful.
What did he say? He said that he thinks that we've gotten too serious, and that he wants to take a break from me.
I'm sure he doesn't need a break from you.
I mean, it's-- it's probably just that he needs a break, you know, from everything, like we all do.
I mean, it's been a crazy year for all of us.
Yeah.
It's gonna be okay.
You guys will work it out.
I hope so.
It'll be okay.
It's pretty ironic, isn't it? Now he's broken both of our hearts.
Thanks.
Yeah.
Hi.
I don't think this is gonna work - us seeing each other outside of class.
I guess I was overcompensating.
What? That's probably the reason why I barked at you in class.
I didn't want anybody to notice that I enjoy your company.
I've had-- I've had one other relationship with a student.
That was a long time ago and under different circumstances.
I'm a little rusty.
And, to be honest a little intimidated.
I'm the one that's intimidated.
Well, then, maybe that's our problem.
We both scare each other.
Maybe that's not a problem.
You've seen Star Wars, right? Yeah, of course.
You know the part where Obi-wan Kenobi tells Luke he should go to Alderaan, and then Obi-wan, uh, says that Luke should do what he feels is right? If I go on the road trip, I can't do the Berlin internship.
Since when? Since yesterday.
Look, I, uh - I thought about not going, not doing it, the internship.
And I was afraid that if if I went so far away, that - that you might But I realized I have to go to, uh, to Berlin.
You're not gonna lose me.
You know that.
Yeah, I do.
It's just gonna be hard.
Yeah.
And this "just friends" thing isn't making it any easier.
It's sort of - it's sort of complicating things.
You mean because of the kissing? Yeah.
So, you don't think we should kiss anymore.
No? But maybe, you know, we should just kiss one last time just kind of purge our system.
Sure.
I mean, I think that's a a good idea.
so, I guess I'll talk to you later, then.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'll talk to you later.
Here.
I tried to tape your picture back together.
I lost a few pieces.
Sorry.
Don't have a hissy.
The spell didn't work.
What was it? Love.
It's a love spell which was supposed to work, guaranteed.
I forgot the clove, which only happens to be the key ingredient.
You tried it on yourself? No, someone else.
Someone that you like? No, someone I hate.
It didn't work worth crap.
Whatever.
I'm sure you were right about the other spells.
They were just stupid.
You know, I'm not so sure.
I mean I was actually starting to think those spells were really working.
Yeah? Wouldn't it be amazing if this stuff really worked, if you could just make things happen or make them better just by doing a spell? Tell me about it.
Get off my bed.
Sorry.
So, you mad at me? - For what? - For talking to Julie.
No, of course not.
It's just, uh, you really haven't said much tonight.
You didn't tell her about Nicole.
No, I didn't.
Why? I mean, because I can think of two reasons.
Either you didn't want to upset Julie or you actually are interested in Nicole.
Well, I already told you I don't like Nicole.
It's not about Nicole.
It's about me and Julie.
Right now, I'm just What? You just I don't know.
I don't know.
I just-- I don't want you to be mad at me this whole trip.
- I'm not going.
- What?! I just - I don't think it's such a good idea.
Why? Why? We gotta get home, right? I mean, what are you gonna do? You gonna go buy a plane ticket now? We need more nondairy creamer.
Will you put that down? Would you just come with me? It'll be fun.
Besides, I mean, what if I'm out there on my own and, you know, I put another ding in the baby? Oh, my God.
What? The date on this box.
It says "June 1, 1991.
" Wow.
That's - that's gross.
What is it? Clove.
Oh, God.
Well, come on down.
- I got it.
- No, that's all right.
I got it.
Say you will.
What? Um, come with me.
Do you think I should? Yeah.
Yeah.
Probably somebody at the front door.
Felicity: the whole walk home, all I could think about was how Ben and I we’re going to be driving across country together Alone.
I mean, in that car for at least two weeks.
And what about Noel and Julie? How are they gonna react when they find out? When I got home, I looked at that picture Meghan taped together, you know, the one she used for that love spell? I didn't notice it before, but when Meghan taped it back together, she did it wrong.
It used to be that I was standing next to Noel, but now I don't know.
You don't believe in magic, do you?
