Hi, how are ya? -Good morning.
-There.
-I'm going down.
-Be careful.
-Watch out, Billy! Are those the same two guys you read the riot act to yesterday? -Yup, and somebody's gonna get hurt.
Let's go.
-Let's get out of here! -Go! -All right, we can radio the Baywatch scarab, see if they can catch up to them.
-Yeah, and then they'll do exactly what they did yesterday after I cited them for not having registration numbers on their wave runners-- pick another beach.
-Help! -Lou? -He went down right here, I've got a cramp.
Hey, you alright? Lou! Are you alright? He's all right, he's okay.
-I've got a cramp.
-Oh honey.
Oh honey.
-Thanks.
-It's alright.
-Did he take in much salt water? -No, not too much.
You can take him back to headquarters and check him out before we release him.
-Okay, you got it.
-Can I go with you, please? -That'd be fine ma'am.
-Oh thank you, thank you.
-Well that makes two of you with a cramp today.
-Are you okay? -Actually, I'm not feeling myself today.
Look, I'm sorry.
-There's nothing to be sorry for.
-Any one of use could have gotten a cramp.
-You watch her water, huh? -Okay.
-Look why don't you go home and get some rest? -No, no, no, I'm fine.
-No, no, no I want you to go home and get some rest.
Lifeguard's orders, huh? Come on.
Hello? -I'm sorry, I got here as fast as I could.
-It's all right, you got it? -Got what? -Ah, come on, I'm nervous enough already.
-Of course I have it, here.
-Wow.
Is that beautiful or what? It is beautiful.
-What if Tracy says no? I mean, Gail said no when I asked her to marry me.
-I know how badly you were hurt by Gail, but you and Gail weren't meant to be, and Tracy and you are.
You're like, like two halves of a soul that have found one another.
Tracy is completely in love with you.
-You know I love her more than anything.
Thanks.
To us.
Remember the first time we came here? -Our first kiss.
And I remember the second time we came here.
-Now that is a day I'll never forget.
-Oh, Mitch.
-Will you marry me? -I lied to you today, Mitch.
I didn't get a cramp.
I couldn't make it to the victim because I didn't have the stamina.
-Hey, hey, we all have off days.
This is why you're upset I'm thrilled.
I mean, I thought maybe you didn't want to marry me.
-This isn't about what I want, Mitch.
I can't be a lifeguard any longer.
There's nothing that I'd like more than to be your wife -What? Do you love me? -Oh, Mitch, I love you like I've never loved anyone, in a way I never knew possible, but I can't marry you.
-Why? -I'm dying.
I've got cancer, Mitch.
The doctors told me I've got two months left Two months ago.
I'm already on borrowed time.
-Well, there must be something the doctors can do.
-It's too late, so I went off chemotherapy.
I just, I couldn't take it any longer.
-Are you in pain? -Not nearly as painful as this.
-This is a mistake, right? How could I not know? -Because I hid it from you.
The only mistake was mine In allowing you to fall in love with me.
-No, no, no.
That wasn't a mistake.
I'll take whatever time we have left together.
I love you, Tracy.
-I love you too.
- Hey, dad.
- Pal.
-How come you're not at work? -I'm not going in today.
As a matter of fact I'm taking a little time off, I won't be going in for a while.
-Why not? Something the matter? -Tracy, she's uh She's sick and she needs me.
-What's all this stuff? You going on a trip? -Yeah, I was thinking of surprising her you know, and taking her somewhere.
Why don't you help me pick out a place? There's some awesome places here.
-Sure, but if she's sick, why don't you wait til she's better? -Tracy's not gonna get better.
-Grandma wanted to take grandpa on a trip before he was gonna die.
Tracy's not gonna die is she? -She's real sick.
-Dad, I can handle the truth.
I'm not a little kid anymore.
-No, no, you're not, are you? -Just tell me, is Tracy dying? -Yeah.
Yeah, Tracy's dying.
Stop it! -Yeah! Good one! Let's go! -Here you go, everything's gonna be all right.
Come on.
-Come on, get out of here! That's fun! We gave you something to do! -Listen, are you sure those are the same two guys on the wave runner? -I'd know them in a sea of wave runners.
Their style is unmistakable.
They still don't have registration numbers and they're gonna kill someone.
I'm gonna see Mitch.
-Hey.
Hi.
-Mitch around? -Uh no.
Actually, you two are just the people I wanted to speak with.
There's no easy way to say this.
Tracy's dying, she's got cancer.
-Tracy Is there anything we can do? -Yes, as a matter of fact there is.
Matt and CJ won't be back til next week, so we're shorthanded as it is, and now Mitch is taking a leave of absence to be with Tracy because she doesn't have much time.
So, I really need you guys to handle things around here.
I'm just swamped with paperwork and tower assignments and I promised Mitch that I'd help him with Hobie, so -Hey, don't worry about it, we'll take care of everything.
-Thank you.
-No problem, right, Caroline? -Right.
Of course not.
I don't know what to say.
-Give her my love? -Yeah.
Oh, I gotta run, I'm picking up Hobie at school.
Oh, excuse me.
Logan, when you came in you were looking for Mitch.
-Oh, it's nothing really.
I'll take care of it, no worries.
-Okay.
It's so peaceful here.
I feel safe and protected.
Like tomorrow can't find us.
-Oh, I almost forgot.
The travel brochures, I mean there are so many places to go I think that we should just go everywhere.
-Like trying to cram a lifetime of living into, I don't even know how long I've got.
According to the doctors, I shouldn't even be here today.
-Doctors can be wrong.
Look, you're alive today, that's what matters.
Now come on, anywhere in the world.
Your wish is my command.
-Oh, I don't want a trip.
Don't you understand? What I want is time and you can't give that to me.
No one can.
I just want to be with you Mitch, I don't care what we do, I don't care where we go, I just want to be with you.
For as long as we've got.
-Hey, man! All right! -Wow.
That was wild.
-Whoo! What a day! -I'm impounding your wave runners.
-What for? -Reckless driving, you almost hit a girl on a wind surfer.
-You can't prove that.
-Well, I can prove you don't have registration numbers.
I cited you for that yesterday.
So today, my friends, I'm impounding them.
Hand over your keys.
-No way, man.
-Fine, have it your way.
-My dad'll just go buy me another one.
-Oh yeah, and what will your daddy do for you when you kill an innocent person? -Hi.
What's going on? -Well, I was just doing some writing.
I was gonna take these cards over to Tracy's place you know, and put them all over the room.
-She'll love that.
How's she doing, Mitch? -Well, she's doing a hell of a lot better than I am, that's for sure.
-You're still reeling from the shock, you know.
We all are.
I think Tracy's farther along in the acceptance process than any of us.
Especially you.
-You know, Steph, this whole thing is like a nightmare.
It's like I keep telling myself to relax, you know, it's only a bad dream.
But I don't wake up.
I'm trying to act normal, well, I don't know what normal is anymore! It's unbelievable.
How could somebody so beautiful and vital be dying? You know, my dad died and my mom misses him, but she's got a lifetime of memories.
-And you feel cheated.
-Yes! Yes! -Then don't let anyone or anything cheat you out of the time you have left with Tracy.
And don't use up your energy being angry.
-I just don't know how to turn the anger off.
I don't know.
-Well, then you're dying too, Mitch, because anger takes no prisoners.
It will eat you up from the inside out and leave you with nothing.
When something like this happens it's difficult to make sense of it all, to find any silver lining, but we all know we're gonna die eventually, most of us just don't know when, or when our loved ones are gonna die, but when we do.
It's actually a gift, because we have the chance to tie up loose ends and say the things we want to say and do things that we might not have done.
You and Tracy know, you have that gift.
All any of us have is today.
Just have to make every moment count.
-Where'd you get so smart? -I'd do anything to have one more day with my dad, knowing that it was his last.
You are always there for me I'll be by your side forever, and ever, baby there's a place for you and me through the best of times together every time I see the sunlight in your eyes I know it's the reason I'm alive and I wonder why it took so long here and now you are always in my heart here and now we will never be apart here and now we can stand the test of time here and now see how bright our love can shine just another day in paradise every time I wake to see your smile with the future in our hands 'cause you're the kind of love I understand and when I look into your eyes you show me that this love will survive here and now you are always in my heart here and now we will never be apart here and now we can stand the test of time here and now see how bright our love can shine -well, is that the best you can do? They almost killed a girl.
Issuing boating registration numbers is not gonna change their attitude.
Yeah, yeah, I'm sure their fathers know everybody.
-What's up? -They're back in business.
-Okay, well I'll just alert John, Newmie, and Brad to be on the lookout for them.
They'll get the word around.
-Tell barnett I want him to spend as much time in the scarab as possible.
-Okay, but the beaches are really packed today, I'm gonna have to take him off a tower.
-With punks like that on the loose, the water's not a safe place for anybody, that takes priority.
Hey, Ron, we're going to our towers.
Keep me posted if you hear about anyone on a wave runner in the area.
-You got it.
-You're going down! Oh, no, no, no, no! -I'm gonna get you.
-No fair! Mind the invalid! -Throw me the frisbee, come on.
Let's go, kung fu master.
Oh man! You know they say the arm's the first thing to go when you start to get old.
Dad! Tracy! Hurry! Is she okay? -She's unconscious.
Let's get her to a hospital.
-How is she? -I'm sorry, it doesn't look good.
-Is she in much pain? -No, she's resting comfortably.
-Can I see her? -Well, she's asleep.
Of course you can.
-Hey.
I know you can hear me.
I just wanted to come by and tell you that, you know, I'm really mad at you, you know.
I'm really mad at you because you come into my life and you spoil me.
I love you so much.
I was just hoping, you know, that you could maybe just wake up and smile at me one more time.
-Tower 14.
Yeah, Ron.
Where? Okay, I've got 'em in my sights.
Thanks.
Grab the can.
-Okay.
You're okay.
Here, here, grab the can.
You're all right.
You're gonna be okay.
You guys are lucky to be alive.
You could've been killed out there.
-It's irresponsible drivers like you that give the sport a bad name.
But then again, I suppose your daddies can buy you new lives too, huh? -Hey.
Hey.
Hey, sleeping beauty.
I knew I'd see that smile again.
Hang on a second.
This'll make you feel better.
-I feel like I'm falling off a cliff, in slow motion.
Only I wish I'd hit soon.
You know what I mean? -Yeah.
-You've never fallen off a cliff.
-Yeah, I did.
Once.
When I fell in love with you.
-Make me a promise, Mitch.
-Anything.
-I'm counting on you to be strong.
I want you to be happy.
You be happy okay.
It's time.
Please, get me out of here.
Please.
-Are you sure? Are you really sure? -The doctors have found a way to prolong my death, Mitch.
They can't prolong my life.
Don't let me die here.
Not like this.
-Okay.
- Love is a wind that cries drifting through the ashes of my memory when I close my eyes long ago is never far away from me through the door to yesterday never wore that dream away inside my heart you still remain just like a Rose after the rain if I could touch you one more time I'd take you where tomorrow couldn't find us where we could leave goodbyes behind us -look! We made it.
Sunset, look.
Sunset.
And hold you til the day I die if I could touch you one more just one more time love is a silent song lost along the way to remember when even though you're gone it sings deep in my soul and brings you back again you just can't hear my prayer half past forever, I'll be there life after life, light the flame with other faces, other names if I could touch you one more time -It's okay.
It's okay.
Just go to sleep.
- Where we could leave goodbyes behind us -I love you.
- And hold you 'til I die -i love you so much.
- Just one more time if I could touch you one more time Hey, dad.
-Hey, pal, pull up a chair.
-I've been looking for ya.
-Well, I'm glad you found me.
-Dad, Tracy made me promise her not to cry when she died.
She said that she wouldn't be happy if she knew I was sad.
-Sounds like her doesn't it? Always thinking of others.
-Do you think she'd mind if she knew I broke that promise? -No, I don't think she'd mind.
I don't think she'd mind at all.
Do you know what I think she'd want us to know? That all we really have on this earth is each other.
And that even if we're not dying, we gotta treat others like it's ours and their last day.
We gotta make every moment count.
Let's take a walk.
-Hey, dad, every now and then let's talk about Tracy and all the cool stuff she did, alright? -Sure, I'd like that.
-I just don't wanna forget her.
-We won't son, we won't ever forget her.
