Mini-Max

1 [water trickling.]
[plops.]
[burbling.]
[girl gasps.]
Oh, it's magic! [gasps.]
I wish for a giant pony! A giant pony is called "a horse," kid.
Drop the loose change, Globby! [girl screams.]
How about if the loose change drops you? [coins clink.]
Not sure if I get that.
[tires screech.]
Oh! Yeah! Okay.
Aah! Too many hills! Guys, I need backup.
Globby's getting away! - We're at school.
- Yeah, we're in the middle of class.
- [whispers.]
We're stuck, Freddie.
- Granville: Students! - Is there a problem? - Go Go: Uh, no.
No problem.
Fred, you gotta roll solo.
No sweat.
I roll solo for breakfast.
Feel the burn! [flames roaring.]
[car alarm chirps.]
What was that? You're breaking up.
Gotta go! Bye! Feel the wrecking ball! [thuds.]
Woman: That was literally my life's work.
My bad! [grunts.]
[clattering.]
My very bad.
Nice work, Klutzosaurus.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a bus to catch.
- Yow! - Oh, wow.
My super bad.
[clattering, shattering.]
Hello.
I am Baymax.
[title music.]
Whoa oh Whoa oh Whoa oh Whoa oh, whoa oh Whoa oh, whoa oh 1x16 - Mini-Max Announcer: Breaking news now! Super heroic, super damage downtown today when Big Hero 6's Leaping Lizard failed spectacularly trying to catch the mutated menace known as Globby.
- Coming up - Not again, Fred.
Maybe he shouldn't roll solo for breakfast again.
Or brunch.
Fred loves to brunch.
Freddie means well, Go Go.
It's just when he puts on the suit, he gets carried away.
Yeah? Tell that to the Zimmermans.
[camera beeping.]
Can't stop! Sorry! But someone has to watch the city when we're at school.
Yeah, but who's gonna watch Fred watching the city? - Mini-Max.
- Mini-Max? [mechanical whirring.]
I'm designing Mini-Max to keep an eye on Fred while we're in school.
- Cool! Like a nanny.
- Oh! He's so adorbs.
A Fred-sitter.
[Fred clears throat.]
[blows.]
Oh! Hey, Fred - How long have you been standing there? - Long enough.
Long enough to hear you're building me a sidekick! Uh, yeah Uh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah! A sidekick! Right! So, Hiro, when's my new sidekick going to be ready to side kick some butt? - Pun intended.
- Intended to what? - Amuse those who go in for that sort of thing.
- So no one.
He'll be ready soon.
I just need to use the lab at school to finish the programming on his superhero chip.
[laughs.]
You're building me a sidekick You're building me a sidekick You're building me a sidekick Should we tell him that Mini-Max isn't really his sidekick? Fred: I've never been happier! All: Nah.
[beeping.]
[beeping.]
What?! There is a sign.
"The robotics lab will be closed for maintenance until further notice.
" - What? Who okay-ed this? - I did! [stammering.]
But our midterm projects are due.
I'm giving everyone an extension.
Until further notice, the lab is off-limits to everyone, Mr.
Hamada! Well, I'm going home.
I suggest you do the same! Maintenance? The lab was fine yesterday.
Come on.
There's another way in.
[music.]
Trampoline time, Baymax.
Baymax: Please use caution.
[Hiro grunts.]
There is significant [Hiro grunts.]
incidents of [Hiro grunts.]
trampoline [Hiro grunts.]
related injuries.
I was not designed for jumping.
- [whispering.]
Baymax.
- Hiro.
[beeping.]
One Mini-Max super sidekick chip, done! [mechanical whirring.]
Baymax: I detect Professor Granville.
[beeps.]
[whispers.]
We'd better get out of here.
[beeping.]
Vocal command test.
Security System: Vocal command acknowledged.
[Fred giggling.]
[giggling.]
Oh, this is Oh, yeah.
[beeping.]
[music.]
[exclaiming.]
[gasps.]
[excited laughter.]
Greetings! I am Mini-Max! - Defender of justice! - I can see it now! We are gonna be such a classic duo.
I'm obviously gonna be the more serious logical one, and Mini-Max is gonna be the plucky comic relief.
Right, Mini-Max? [Fred groans.]
Mini-Max: Do you yield? [strained.]
I was just trying to pat your head.
My apologies! Carry on with your affectionate gesture.
[whirring.]
You have a minor abrasion on your wrist.
Icing the area for ten minutes twice a day - is recommended.
- Fred: Mmm.
- Hello.
I am Baymax.
- Greetings! I am Mini-Max! I am programmed to assist and protect my fellow heroes, to thwart villainy, and to always be a champion for justice! [exclaims.]
I am a personal healthcare companion.
Mini-Max: We all serve in our own way! [TV turns on.]
[mystical music.]
Okay, this is Captain Fancy A fictional comic book character.
By day, Lash Looper, wise-cracking cab driver.
By night, Crash City's dapper defender! Yes! And see, Captain Fancy's got a sidekick like you.
Dandy Boy.
I do not have internal organs! So glad Professor Granville gave us an extension on our midterms.
Definitely needed more time.
Which is why we're watching a movie instead of working.
[scoffs.]
The Mermaiden's Tale is so much more than a movie, Go Go! If you don't cry when she throws herself in front of that harpoon, - oh, then you're just dead inside.
- Yep.
Guilty.
You guys ever wonder about Professor Granville? [crying.]
No.
Why? - There, there.
- She, uh, kinda lied to me.
Last night she said she was going home, but then she snuck back in to to work on something.
Yeah, but isn't that exactly what you were doing? Technically sure.
But I had a good reason.
What if Professor Granville's up to something, you know, bad? [laughter.]
- Fred: Oh, please! - Honey Lemon: That's funny! [mechanical laughter.]
I'm serious.
Think about it.
She mysteriously stopped teaching 20 years ago, and has suddenly returned.
Plus, she used to keep the, you know, just the rarest superconductor in the universe on her desk as a paperweight.
And now she's working on some secret project! Ever think you might be letting your personal feelings get in the way here? Just a tad-ski? Yeah, everyone knows Granville's really hard on you.
Try to focus on the positive.
She gives you a lot of attention! Guys, I'm telling you.
Something's not right.
- Come on, Baymax.
- Where are you going? To find out the truth about Professor Granville.
[music.]
[distant siren wailing.]
Good Luck Alley? We're gonna have to go undercover.
You know the guy.
Felony something.
Wait, you mean Carl? [grunts.]
Hey! Watch where you're going! Are you injured? Scanning.
[beeping, whirring.]
You are not injured.
[Hiro laughs nervously.]
Weirdo.
Come on, Baymax.
We're losing her.
[growls.]
- [nervously.]
H-Hi.
- I just had this tracksuit dry-cleaned! - Get them! - Baymax: Oh, no.
[horn beeps.]
[engine revving.]
Ha! Coming through! Sorry! [music.]
Pardon me! [motorcycle engines revving.]
Baymax: It appears there is no exit.
Then, we'll have to make one.
[beeps.]
Whoa! [rockets roaring.]
Baymax [in slow-motion.]
: Ohhh nooo.
[crash, clattering.]
The hero looks, scans, searches.
Not a sign of illegal activity.
Not a sign.
I have detected a sign of illegal activity.
Yeah! Just saw that! We're so in sync! [chuckling.]
We should probably get on that.
Mini-Maximum damage control! [coins clinking.]
I will cross-check physical characteristics against my criminal database! No need, Mini-Max! Right, Globby? [in bad Cockney accent.]
Globby? I don't know who you're talking about.
That ski mask isn't fooling anyone, Globby.
We can see your entire body.
Oh, and you call that a Cockney accent? [in bad Cockney accent.]
: I can do better, guv'nor! Both your accents were highly inaccurate! Well, sorry! I've never been to Cockney.
And this ski mask is because I heard it might snow.
You cannot roll away from justice! Don't worry, Mini-Max.
Fredzilla's all over this! And I am all over Fredzilla! Shield! [humming.]
Intercept! Nowhere to go, snowball! - Give up! - Never! Have it your way.
[gulps.]
[belches.]
Ah, spicy.
Turns out, you can fight fire with fire.
Mini-Maximum extinguisher! You haven't seen the last of me.
[Globby cackling.]
I successfully averted all Fred-related disasters.
Yeah, that's not really a sidekick sorta line,¨ but nice hustle out there! We make a great team, Mini-Max! Are you feeling it?! - I feel nothing.
I am a robot.
- You will.
Before we know it, we're going to be finishing each other's sentences.
Don't worry.
We'll get there.
Come on, Mini-Maximum fist bump? Mini-Maximum fist bump! [clattering.]
[cat yowls.]
Fred: Maybe we do a Mini-Medium fist bump next time? [tools clatter.]
[gum pops.]
Uh, Granville update, everybody.
Totally up to something.
Mysterious past, mysterious work in the lab, and a mysterious visit to Good Luck Alley.
That is a lot of mystery.
What was she doing in Good Luck Alley? Hiro: I don't know.
We got chased away by Yama and this thugs - before we could find out whoa! - Hiro, what is it? I think I found someone who might have some answers.
Professor Granville.
You worked with her 20 years ago? She was an excellent teacher.
- It was a shame the way she left.
- What happened? She was in the lab after-hours.
Something went wrong.
- There was an incident.
- What kind of incident? Officially, a pipe burst, but there were rumors.
An unsanctioned project gone wrong.
- So she was fired? - She resigned.
The matter was not pursued further.
That's all I know.
This is helpful.
Thank you, Professor Callaghan.
Hiro! I never thanked you for saving my Abigail.
- I'm I'm glad she's okay.
- I never set out to hurt anyone.
What happened to Tadashi because of me I know it's not enough, but I'm sorry.
Tadashi would've, um, wanted me to forgive you.
[exhales sharply.]
Someday I hope I can.
[heavy doors creak, slam.]
[scooter buzzing.]
[mechanical whirring.]
[music.]
[clatters.]
[beeping, buzzes.]
[trills.]
[beeping.]
[gasps.]
Security System: Threat detected.
Threat detected.
[gasps.]
[shudders.]
It looks like we've located the threat.
So that's what you've been doing? Killer spider robots? - Stand down.
- Security System: Authority recognized.
They're part of the school's new security upgrade.
- Seriously? - Yes.
San Fransokyo has had a rise in criminal activity lately.
- Perhaps you've noticed.
- Not really.
I've I've been so focused on my studies.
[chuckles nervously.]
Hiro: Sweet.
So, this is the brains behind the 'bots? Yes.
I'm programming the system to detain intruders.
Like, say, a reckless student breaking in after-hours? - [stammering.]
Oh, no.
I was just - Save it, Mr.
Hamada! We'll deal with your punishment in the morning.
- But I - Not another word, Mr.
Hamada.
[beeping.]
Security System: Threat detected.
Threat detected.
- Is it supposed to do that? - No.
Stand down! Authority not recognized.
[keyboard clacking.]
[beeps.]
I can't override it.
You must have triggered the system before it was ready.
Oh! So it's my fault.
Right.
Security System: Threat detected.
Threat detected.
Wait, the system sees you as a threat too? - Apparently so.
- Oh.
[chuckles.]
Great.
Um [stammering.]
I-I think I can fix the code.
[both scream.]
[electricity crackling.]
- Uh, now what? - Run! [music.]
[gasps.]
[beeps.]
I need backup at school now! Hiro? [Granville grunting.]
Mr.
Hamada! I could use some assistance! Wait! Granville's with you? - Don't you think she'd recognize us? - Nobody recognizes us in our gear.
- I bet she would.
- Looks like it's up to you and me, Mini-Max.
I have been programmed to increase vocal volume in this situation.
[loudly.]
Mini-Maximum justice! [laughing.]
I'm living my best life! [crickets chirping.]
Wait up.
Wait up! Engage glow mode! Fred: You're a night-light? Oh ho! Awesome! Not to mention, practical.
[squeaking.]
[rat chitters.]
[music.]
Mini-Max: Show yourself! Spiders! Status: surrounded and outnumbered.
I was built for this! [electricity crackling.]
Hiro might've mentioned there were spiders.
Mini-Max: Relax.
They are not organic life-forms.
Electric spiders! That is a more accurate assessment! [Fred gasps.]
Mini-Maximum rocket fist! [Fred groans, slow-motion.]
[electricity crackles.]
[explosion.]
Thanks for the hand, Mini-Max.
Get it? 'Cause you used your actual hand to give me a hand.
So, Mr.
Hamada, enlighten me.
Why have you been spying on me? Spying? On you? [laughing nervously.]
No, I-I haven't been spying on you.
Good Luck Alley? Where I was purchasing parts for these security bots.
Okay, fine! I-I've been spying on you.
But for good reason.
I found out you taught here before.
So, I went to see Professor Callaghan, to find out why you left.
I see.
Well, it seems I have to work harder to gain your trust.
Why don't I start by telling you what really happened? Granville: There was a young student, a genius.
I believed without limit, he would achieve great things.
I granted this young genius free reign of the lab.
Even after-hours.
I was unaware that his experiment was extremely dangerous.
[electricity charging.]
[explosion.]
It went awry.
The boy survived, but barely.
I covered for the student, telling the authorities it was my work.
In a way it was my work.
See, as a teacher, I failed.
Students need limits.
Even geniuses.
[thuds.]
[Hiro grunts.]
- Look out! - I'm stuck! [Hiro grunting.]
Help! I'm stuck! [rapid beeping.]
[Hiro whimpers.]
[high-pitched whining.]
[Fred grunts.]
Mini-Maximum justice! Security System: Threat detected.
Threat detected.
Threat detected.
[Fred whimpers.]
- Threat detected.
- Mini-Maximum punch! [Fred whimpering.]
Threat detected.
Fred, distract the security bots, while I destroy the CPU.
[breathing heavily.]
[rapid beeping.]
So, they're not spiders.
They're killer robots.
Good Wait, no! Is that better? Mini-Maximum smash! Mini-Maximum launch! Mini-Maximum Pinned.
You must proceed heroically without me.
But I don't know if I can do this without you! Fred, believe in yourself, like I do.
- You actually believe in me? - You're all we've got.
Proppin' up the hero with clichéd nonsense.
Nice, Mini-Max! You side-kicked this situation perfectly! [groans.]
Okay, Fred, think.
How do you defeat a security system that thinks everything is a threat? By threatening me, the security system is a threat to the school, because I'm there to protect the school.
So, to defeat all threats to the school, the security system must fight itself.
Security System: Threat detected.
But if it fights itself, then that's also a threat, so it must fight the part of itself that's threatening the part that's not a threat.
Security System: Warning.
Fatal logic error.
Warning.
Fatal logic error.
[rapid beeping.]
But the threat in that is figuring out which is the non-threatening part.
Security System: Logic circuit overload.
Logic circuit overload.
[sizzling.]
[voice slows, stops.]
[system powering down.]
[grunts.]
[grunting.]
[thudding.]
Fred, you did it! You confused the security system so greatly, it terminated itself! I did? I mean, sh-yeah! It is the Fredzilla way, you know.
Contrary to previous data, you are a great hero! That's my sidekick! Mini-Maximum justice! [both laughing.]
[continues laughing.]
You laugh funny.
Uh, that was pretty crazy, Professor Granville.
Indeed, Mr.
Hamada.
Indeed.
- Professor, I, uh - Yes, Mr.
Hamada? I know I take you risks, and you you think I'm reckless.
[grunts.]
[glass shatters.]
[awkward laugh.]
Yes.
I do.
I just want you to know I'm not gonna end up like him.
Who? Your former student.
We're done here, Mr.
Hamada.
[glass clinking.]
[electricity crackling.]
[dramatic music.]
