Castle s08e02 Episode Script

XX

Castle.
Are you okay? Where have you been? Why haven't you called? I couldn't.
Kate, what's going on? I've got to go.
No, no! No, Kate Kate, why are you shutting me out? Castle, I love you.
Kate.
Kate.
Beckett.
Are you sure we're safe here? Am I sure? Um, no.
This building was seized by NYPD a week ago in a drug bust.
There's no paperwork connecting it to me.
We got a couple of days here.
Not if we starve to death first.
Trust me.
A bullet's gonna kill you long before hunger does.
Ah.
Thank you.
I feel so much calmer now.
This is so not how I saw my life playing out.
I joined the A.
G.
's office to make a difference, maybe impress a girl.
Okay, a lot of girls.
The point is I thought I'd be saving the world from behind a computer, not being hunted for sport by the "zero dark thirty" all-stars.
Today was supposed to be my first day as captain of the 12th precinct.
Worst thing I thought I was gonna be facing was working without Castle.
And then you called.
All right.
Try to get some sleep.
Yeah.
Right.
Alpha team in position in 10 seconds.
Vikram! Run! Oh! We have to go.
Now.
Who are you? Sorry, dear.
There's no time for chitchat.
Come on.
Baker is down.
I repeat, Baker is down.
Target is coming to you.
Charlie, acknowledge.
Charlie.
Get in.
No.
No.
Not until you tell me who you are.
You can call me Rita.
I'm Castle's stepmother.
Now, we really have to go.
So, what do we know? Last night, Beckett's old team from the Attorney General's office was killed.
Right.
And then, this morning, she gets a call from their new hire, Vikram, and all hell breaks loose.
Which means everything must be connected to Beckett's time in the A.
G.
But how? That was two years ago.
Maybe she stayed in contact.
And kept me in the dark? Well, before today, I wouldn't have believed it.
Now I can't help but wonder what else she's keeping from me.
Don't go there, dad.
Easier said than done.
- Richard? - In here.
Ah.
I thought you two might need a pick-me-up.
Oh, and look who I found downstairs.
Hey.
That's funny.
Last time I saw you, you said we were done.
Look, I feel bad about what happened.
If I'd known I could've used you as bait, I would have stuck around and followed your kidnappers.
Uh It was a joke.
- Not a very good one.
- Fair enough.
- What do you want, Hayley? - To help.
I reckon that I owe you that much after what happened.
She did give us the clue that found you.
Well, yeah, after Esposito dragged her down to the precinct.
You're not wrong, mother, but we do need all the help we can get to find Beckett.
I was hoping you'd say that, 'cause I've already got feelers out to contacts in high-traffic areas across the city cab companies, banks, hotels, train stations.
I sent them pictures of Beckett and Vikram and asked them to spread them around, plus scan through their surveillance videos.
If your wife is still in town, we will find her.
Ah.
Told you she was a keeper.
I've been married to Castle's father for almost 10 years.
Jackson never mentioned being married.
Well, of course not.
It's classified.
In this line of work, you make a lot of enemies.
Attachments are liabilities leverage to be used against us.
- Sounds romantic.
- It can be.
Absence doesn't always make the heart grow fonder, but it sure does wonders for the libido.
I haven't seen Jackson in Nine months.
I am raring to go.
- That's sweet.
- So, what are you? CIA? Oh, God.
No.
I'm a different three-letter agency.
Much more exclusive.
You actually expect me to believe that? I did save your life, dear.
True that.
How did you end up back there? What's your connection to all of this? I'm afraid that's also classified.
People died.
Friends of mine.
I know.
And more may die unless you tell me everything that has happened up until this point.
Listen to me.
Whatever you think this is, it's bigger.
And if you want to stay alive, you're gonna need my help.
It started this morning.
I was getting ready for work, and then he called.
Wow.
What? That was supposed to be a decoder ring in there.
Oh, my God.
This is so beautiful.
Um, would you mind getting that? Yeah.
Here.
Thanks.
Oh, my God.
Captain Beckett's phone.
Uh Katherine Beckett, please.
Of course.
Please wait just one moment.
Okay.
I'll trade.
There you go.
Thanks.
Yeah, this is Beckett.
This is an emergency alert, classification protocol seven.
- I don't - There's no time.
Rendezvous at the Hill Theatre.
Come alone.
Tell no one.
Understood.
Uh, you know, uh, I'm not interested, so why don't you take me off the list? Thanks.
Telemarketers.
I swear there should be tougher laws against them.
Wow.
I love this.
I'm gonna cherish this.
Thank you.
Mm.
Okay, I've got to get moving.
I have a meeting over at 1PP.
Knock 'em dead.
Show me your hands.
- They're all dead.
- I said show me your hands.
Don't move.
I'm not carrying.
I'm I'm just an analyst.
I'm a-a data cruncher at the A.
G.
's office.
I don't remember you.
I started working a few months ago.
- Now they're all dead.
- Who? McCord, Hendricks your entire former team.
- How? - One was stabbed at a bar.
The others were killed in a car crash.
But it wasn't an accident.
They were all murdered.
How do you know that? Because someone tried to kill me yesterday, too.
So, then why didn't you pull the fire alarm? The FBI, the NSA? Because you're at the center of all this, which makes you the only person I can trust.
I haven't seen any of those people in over a year.
What makes you think I'm at the heart of this? - Who did you tell about me? - Nobody.
- Well, they found us somehow.
- Follow me.
Let's go.
They're here somewhere.
Check the balcony.
Come on.
- Get in the car.
- What?! Get in the car! Oh, God.
- I think I'm gonna hurl.
- Just try to keep it together.
Oh, I'm definitely gonna hurl.
What the hell are you doing?! How do you think they found us? They tapped your phone.
They used it to track you to me.
I've been shot.
I need to get to a doctor, and we need to call the cavalry.
That's gonna be the last call you ever make.
Look, whoever these guys are, they are hacked in everywhere, which means anybody you call is gonna wind up dead.
I got to stop this bleeding.
Can I help you? It's okay.
Listen.
I'm a cop.
I just need a needle and thread, and I'm gonna have to detain you for your own safety.
Grab her cellphone, lock her up in the bathroom.
I'm sorry.
What's wrong with you? Headache.
I'm dizzy.
I-I need to eat something.
Yeah? Well, maybe you should have grabbed some breakfast this morning instead of calling me.
I'm a diabetic.
I'm gonna need Insulin.
Yeah, well, one medical emergency at a time.
Is it bad? It could be worse.
I'm gonna start sewing, and you're gonna tell me what the hell's going on here.
Yesterday morning, I got an alert That a pending interagency database search generated a result.
Right away, I knew it was weird because the search was two years old, and it was instigated by a former agent named Kate Beckett.
What was the search for? The document it uncovered was a just-declassified electronic memo, heavily redacted.
From what I could tell, it detailed a meeting between a federal official of some kind and senator William Bracken.
When I started at the A.
G.
's office, I ran a keyword search, hunting for criminality connected to Bracken, and I never got a hit.
Well, yesterday, you did.
And five people are dead because of it.
S08E02 XX You okay? Yeah.
I just I thought I would never see him again.
I thought that I'd finally put this all behind me.
I-I don't think you ever get over something like that.
It it becomes a part of who you are.
My sister died when I was a kid.
I still think about her all the time.
Tell me everything you remember about the memo.
Well, most of it was redacted.
But but there was a word written in the margin Loksat.
That made me curious, so I looked it up.
Came up empty, so I just I forwarded the whole thing to Agent McCord and forgot about it.
and I was running for my life.
Your search must have triggered an alarm.
That memo was most likely declassified by accident, and whatever Loksat is, these people will clearly do anything to keep it a secret.
Detective Beckett, you are the last person I expected to see.
Why is that? You thought I'd be dead by now? I don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about.
Rachel McCord, Matt Hendricks? Five murdered federal agents ringing a bell? Not a one.
And how about this one Loksat.
How do you know about Loksat? Doesn't matter how.
The question is what is it, and why is there a hit squad running around the east coast, killing people to protect it? - We're through here.
- The hell we are.
Just by being here, you've put a target on my back.
You may as well kill yourself right now, Kate.
You have stumbled onto something which is so over your head.
I am amazed you're still alive.
What did Beckett say that freaked him out so much? How do you know about Loksat? Doesn't matter how.
The question is what is it, and why is there a hit squad running around the east coast, killing people to protect it? Loksat.
- Never heard of it.
- Me neither, but it clearly scares the hell out of Bracken.
Figuring out what it means is key, and that's exactly what Beckett is doing.
Well, why don't we talk to Bracken and find out? - Yeah.
- No, um, not you, Castle.
You're radioactive with this guy.
Yeah, you should stay here and wait for the assistant A.
G.
She's on her way up from D.
C.
to bring some federal muscle.
Right.
Hey, Alexis.
I have another clue.
So do we.
We? Me and Hayley.
Her feelers paid off.
Vikram showed up at a hotel in midtown an hour after they left the prison.
- Was Beckett with him? - I don't know.
We just got here.
I'll call you as soon as we figure anything out.
No, no, Alexis.
I don't want you involved in this.
Dad, I can take care of myself.
Alexis, no.
It is too dangerous.
I'm not a kid anymore, dad.
Beckett's family.
I'll call you after.
Alexis Nicely done.
You sure it wasn't too harsh? No, he's got to learn.
You're an adult now.
So, how do we do this? We talk to the head of security.
We get a look at their video surveillance.
My source told me that Vikram arrived a little before 4:00 P.
M.
yesterday.
The question is what the hell was he doing here? This is a bad idea.
Well, it's all we got.
We need a copy of that memo.
It's the only way to get on top of this.
You know they'll have wiped the original search, right? Yeah.
I also know that the A.
G.
has a triple firewall backup, which I am guessing you can hack.
Well, duh, but the second I do, it'll trip an alarm.
Guys with guns are gonna come running.
Which is why we are in a public space with four exits.
You are gonna get me shot.
Look on the bright side chicks dig scars.
I hate you.
There he is.
Looks like Beckett's repositioning.
Sir.
Can I have a shot of whiskey, please? All right, Vikram.
How's it going? I'm in.
Now comes the hard part.
Fast forward a little.
Wait.
Uh-oh.
Vikram, they're here.
Get out.
- I need more time.
- You got maybe 15 seconds.
Come on.
Come on, Vikram.
Get out.
Come on.
Got it.
Oh.
That was close.
I'll say.
It's too bad we couldn't see what was on Vikram's computer.
Can you rewind a little? Stop.
Look in the mirror.
Can I? Thanks.
Okay.
That was totally badass.
- I got the memo.
- And I got them.
I followed them to a warehouse, and then, not long after that, they showed up with Castle.
They were gonna torture him, so I stepped in.
And eventually, I took off and went back to that apartment building where you found us.
I'm impressed.
Most people would have been dead within hours.
All right.
Now it's your turn.
Who are these guys and what is Loksat? I don't know exactly.
What I do know is the person behind this is a very powerful and a very dirty analyst inside the CIA.
I've been trying to get an identity for over a year, and every time I get a lead, it just evaporates.
What's this person's connection to Bracken? They were partners.
As you know, the senator was working with a drug dealer by the name of Vulcan Simmons.
They were using the profits to fund Bracken's presidential campaign.
I mean, you must have wondered how they got away with it for so long.
They were protected by Bracken's mystery partner.
They were using CIA resources to import the drugs into the country.
Wow.
That's life imprisonment right there.
That's a political nuke.
That's why they're so willing to kill to protect their anonymity.
Is Bracken normally in solitary? No.
After he met with Mr.
Castle, he attacked a guard.
So you stuck him in the hole.
Must have figured it was his safest bet.
William Bracken was just killed in prison.
This changes things.
I'm afraid the only way that you and Vikram are gonna be able to stay alive is if you go on the run.
And one day, I hope I will be able to root out the big bad and get the target taken off your backs.
One day? Yes, dear.
I'm afraid the life that you were living yesterday is over.
Detectives.
I'm Allison Hyde.
We spoke on the phone.
Hey.
Prison was hacked into right before the murder.
Security cameras in solitary were turned off.
These guys are professional ghosts.
Listen, I'm not here to run roughshod over you.
Captain Beckett is one of yours, and rescuing her is priority one.
Now, where's Richard Castle? Well, we're not sure.
Why? Honestly, I think he could be our most valuable asset in locating Captain Beckett.
But I need to know whether he can be trusted.
Castle loves Beckett more than anything, and he's desperate to find her.
So you're confident that he's been telling you everything? Other than Bracken's name, there's nothing actionable in the memo itself, only the word Loksat.
There's something else written after it, but it's too smudged to read.
I'll try and sharpen it.
a "B" and a "D.
" All right.
What does that mean? Uh, 2011 could be the year.
I don't know what "BD" means.
It's Esposito.
- Hey, what's up? - Yo.
Where are you? At the office.
What are you working on? Nothing.
You sidelined me, remember? Yeah, well, the assistant A.
G.
is here, Allison Hyde.
She wants you to come down to the precinct immediately.
- I can't.
- Castle, you were supposed to wait Look, it's gonna take me half an hour to get there.
Why don't we just jump on a video conference? Give me a minute to dial you in.
All right.
You two should get out of sight.
I'm not gonna mention we have this document.
People connected to this thing are getting killed all over the place, so no sense putting ourselves in the cross hairs.
Agreed.
Thanks.
Mr.
Castle.
We never met when you were in D.
C.
, but I read the reports.
You helped us out of a very tricky situation.
What can I say? My life kind of depended on it.
Given the stakes here, I'm going to be blunt.
Are you currently in contact with Captain Beckett? No.
But she did rescue you last night.
Yes.
And then she left me, so it's kind of a sore subject.
Did she happen to say anything about the man with her, Vikram Singh? No.
Why? When we started digging into him, we noticed some alarming discrepancies.
What kind of discrepancies? It appears that he forged his records to get a job with us.
Vikram Singh is not the man he's pretending to be, which means we have to assume that he's up to no good.
Hey.
You hungry? I've made a decision.
I'm not running.
- But you should.
- Are you crazy? Uh, maybe, but I owe it to Rachel and to the others, and I sure as hell am not gonna let someone chase me away from the life that I've worked so hard to create.
Okay.
Then I'm sticking with you.
A-are you sure? Because you're not exactly trained for war.
Yes.
I'm sure.
Thank you.
That was mean.
I just feel like I would be safer with you than not with you.
You ready? We're staying.
Worst case scenario, we're gonna smoke out the mystery man before we die, and I am trusting you to put him down if we do.
Jackson was right.
You're a very impressive woman.
Hey.
When you need me, dial this number and tell the operator that you want your curtains cleaned.
I'm really glad we met.
And if you survive, we really must get the families together.
Just us again.
What now? Now we figure out what the hell Loksat 2011BD means.
It's a product number.
Serial number? - Keypad code.
- Safe-deposit box.
Okay, so Loksat represents the CIA operation used to transport drugs for Bracken and Vulcan Simmons.
So, it's a it's a it's a code name? Uh, maybe, but you know what? Maybe it's something more.
Maybe it's not just the name of the operation.
Maybe it's the name of the transportation company.
- A modern-day Air America.
- Exactly.
And 2011BD - is the tail number of an airplane.
- Tail number of an airplane.
You know how to use one of these? I can figure it out.
Hands where I can see them.
- Come on.
- What the hell is this? We're here to talk about Loksat.
Uh, what is that? An illegal CIA air fleet used to transport drugs.
We tracked a plane's tail number to this private airport and to you.
I don't know what you're talking about.
I'm sure you've been trained in how to resist interrogation, so I'm gonna make this easier for you.
I'm gonna start counting, and if I make it to five, you're dead.
Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Maybe he's telling the truth.
No, he's not.
Who's in charge of Loksat? One.
I don't know.
I-I just work here.
- Two.
- Beckett, come on! - Beckett, please.
- Three.
Four.
Okay! Okay! I'll tell you everything.
Beckett.
Beckett! Vikram, what have you done? He was reaching for a gun.
He was trying to kill you! - You can't believe him, Kate.
- Castle, what are you doing here? Isn't it obvious? I'm rescuing you.
- Rick? - Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
She's cool.
She's cool.
She's with me.
- But this guy he's not who he says he is.
- What are you talking about? The A.
G.
's office got intel that he is the mole within the agency.
No, that's that's absurd.
Don't you see what's happening? Whoever is at the heart of this Loksat memo is trying to discredit me.
He's telling the truth.
This guy had his gun cocked and ready to fire.
See? Beckett, please believe me.
You can't trust him.
- Kate.
- Yes, I can trust him, and so can you.
- No.
Not until we confirm - Castle, just shut up and kiss me.
Right.
Right.
Uh, this is so heartwarming, you guys.
Do you think you two could finish this a little later? Right.
Right.
Uh, sorry.
Uh Beckett, this is Hayley.
She's the one who helped me find you.
Thank you for taking care of him.
Yeah, it's a lot of work.
I don't know how you do it.
Well, best of luck to you, Rick.
I'm off.
What about finding your hacker? Oh, if he's involved in whatever the hell this is, screw him.
I'm not getting paid enough.
Well, um, thank you for all your help.
It was it was a pleasure.
I'm happy you found her.
- Hey.
- Hey.
- What is it? - You tell me.
I know.
I've got a lot of explaining to do.
You lied to me.
You looked me right in the eye, and you lied to me.
Why didn't you tell me about Vikram? - I couldn't.
- Come on.
The A.
G.
's office has strict protocols, Castle.
You're not with the A.
G.
's office anymore.
I did what I did to protect you.
He gave me a class seven distress code.
That's life or death.
I mean, what did you want me to do? Tell me the truth.
Come on.
Do you have any idea how worried I was? Yeah, I do.
I was gone for 36 hours.
A year ago, you were gone for eight weeks.
Eight weeks.
That was different.
Sure was.
You still don't remember what happened during six of those weeks, and yet I trusted you.
So, please, just trust me.
I didn't do this to hurt you.
I did it to protect you.
Why am I so angry? You know what? When the shoe was on the other foot, - I felt the same way.
- No.
That's not it.
It's you.
Because I've Seen this before.
What is that supposed to mean? Nothing.
Just that we work better as a team.
Of course we do.
Yeah.
Together, we can figure this out.
We can figure anything out, just like always.
I know.
Okay.
No more secrets.
No more secrets.
Let me get this straight.
So, you and Vikram here you're being hunted by a secret death squad that's being sanctioned by someone deep inside the CIA, and you don't want any help? Haven't you been paying attention? There is no help.
Bro, the A.
G.
's office has resources.
It wouldn't matter.
These people have the power to pull strings, to make evidence, cases, people disappear.
We can't work through the system.
So, we have to work outside the system.
Beckett's right.
Can't fight a faceless enemy who lives in the shadows unless we drag them out into the light.
What do you mean? Whoever's behind this memo relies on secrecy.
The one and only thing that Loksat fears Is exposure they can't control.
Exactly.
If we pour enough light on this conspiracy Then whoever's behind it can't come after you or Vikram.
Because everyone will be watching.
And I know exactly how to turn those lights on.
Tonight at 11:00, a live interview with famed mystery novelist Richard Castle and NYPD Captain Katherine Beckett with disturbing allegations of a murderous conspiracy Beckett is in hiding right now, but I guarantee you she will be here for this interview.
- You're not gonna regret this.
- Thanks for the exclusive, Rick.
I got eyes on Castle.
Oh, no.
Don't worry.
They won't be making that interview.
This is a stupid plan.
We should definitely rethink it.
It's our only play, Vikram.
All right.
The live interview is set up for 11:00.
We should be there by 10:30.
Castle! Drop it.
Drop your weapon! - Put it down.
- Okay! Walk.
Lady, I have never worked so hard to kill one person in my entire life.
Okay, so, did you guys get lost, or were you just waiting till the last possible second to save us? Little distracted in there.
You got a fully stocked bar, satellite TV.
We ordered some Sushi on your credit card, so I hope you don't mind.
We got to get the phone.
It'll tell us who's been giving them orders.
It's encrypted.
Can you crack it? This is military-grade encryption.
- It's it's gonna take a while.
- Well, work fast.
It's the only link we have to Loksat.
Hey, guys.
So, a funny thing happened on the way to the airport.
Drop the hardware.
Now.
Aah! You are so cool.
I'll call you when we get to D.
C.
Just promise me this no deals.
Find out who they really are and use that to uncover whoever's behind the Loksat memo.
Five of my agents are dead.
Believe me, I'm getting the bastard responsible.
But I recommend you keep a security detail at all times.
The A.
G.
's office can provide the team.
She's she's already got one.
Any chance I could interest you in a return to Washington? I could offer a prestigious command.
She's already got one of those, too.
Uh, thank you, Ms.
Hyde, but I'm happy here.
Okay.
Uh, everyone, can you, uh, gather 'round for just one second? Gather 'round.
Gather 'round.
Gather 'round.
- Come on over here.
- What are you doing? Um, although she is a little bit late reporting to duty, let us give an official welcome to her first command, Captain Kate Beckett.
Speech.
Speech, Captain! Speech! You know, I thought I would be spending my first few days here with my head buried in paperwork, but so much for that.
Um It's an honor to be here, especially considering all of the captains that have come before me.
And if I was a poet or a best-selling novelist, then maybe I'd have a better metaphor, but, um, the 12th precinct she's our home, our haven.
And even if she is beaten down or shot up, she's still special.
Because this is where we get to make a difference, and I am so privileged to be able to do just that with each and every one of you.
So, that being said, stop standing around doing nothing and get back to work.
Guys.
I cracked the phone's encryption.
The shooters received calls from only one number.
- Are you able to trace it? - I already did.
It's a government cell registered to Allison Hyde.
Yeah, lock down the building.
Don't let anyone from the A.
G.
's office they're gone.
Thanks.
ESU intercepted Hyde's team outside of Newark.
They confirm that she should be here.
If she ain't, she's in the wind.
NYPD! Clear.
Clear.
Clear.
You know what I don't get with her power, her means, why why didn't she run, flee the country, go into hiding? She may have had her reasons.
Should we call the feds? No.
This one's ours.
Let's get to work.
Beckett.
Yeah? Is this really over? Hey.
Hey.
Just wanted to say goodbye.
It's been fun working with you.
You too.
- Where are you headed? - Chicago.
And then Denver.
Gonna be living out of a suitcase for the next few weeks, eating room service, watching bad reality television you know, my life.
Well, maybe I can call you sometime if I need some advice.
Or to talk about "The Bachelor.
" I'd like that.
So, do you need a lift, or are you just checking in on me? I'm happy you're alive.
So, do you believe that Allison Hyde masterminded all of this? Of course not.
Neither do you.
Hyde was a convenient scapegoat.
The person behind the Loksat memo is still out there, still thriving.
- So, what should we do? - We? No.
I'm gonna ferret out that son of a bitch.
You are gonna go home to that good-looking husband of yours.
You're not gonna let this go, are you? - I can't.
- Why not? What is this obsession in the heart of you? Your mother's murder's been avenged.
I thought I put it all behind me.
But it's back, and it's stronger than ever.
A devil like that is very hard to cast out.
But you have to try.
Don't you see the gift that you've been given? Allison Hyde was a patsy.
Loksat will leave you alone.
Don't end up like me.
Go.
Live your life.
Friends of mine were killed because of me.
Their deaths weren't your fault, Kate.
- Surely you must see that.
- Still, I got to do something.
And you know, maybe in doing it, that'll give me peace and I'll be able to move on.
Do you love Castle? Yeah.
Then why do you want to get him killed? Have you forgotten why I never see my husband? Attachments are liabilities, leverage to be used against us by our enemies.
So I have to choose between finding the killer and being with Rick? - That's ridiculous.
- That's the job.
Five people were killed because of a redacted memo.
What do you think is gonna happen if Loksat finds out that you and Castle are working together on this? You're a big girl.
Dive down the rabbit hole if you must.
