Chesapeake Shores (2016) s03e05 Episode Script

Love Eventually

1 NARRATOR: Previously on Chesapeake Shores: The last time we were boxing books, things didn't turn out exactly as I'd hope.
BREE: Now that we are unboxing books, how would you like it to turn out? JESS: I'm leaving.
You can have your party and your son even though I love him a lot.
But you can't have me.
I was proud of what you did.
But you go to war against me, you're gonna get shot back at.
I don't want the girls afraid because they might have their picture taken.
They get this first shot and then they move on.
You can't guarantee that.
It might get worse.
[UPBEAT COUNTRY MUSIC PLAYING OVER STEREO.]
LEIGH: Thank you.
Are you kidding? Best burger by far, the El Camino in Tucson.
Blue cheese, wing sauce.
It's good, but you gotta go pure.
Farmer's in Baltimore.
Old school, cash only, and they won't even sell you cheese.
- TRACE: Hey! Later, guys.
- JOHN: Later.
You remember Big Daddy's Bar in Memphis? - Don't even mention Big Daddy's.
- Oh, you and the jukebox issue.
- They shouldn't have unplugged it.
- One song for an hour? I'm a big Merle Haggard fan.
- Of course you are.
- I'm happy to have three days off from sharing a bus with you guys.
And on that note, I'm going home to see my kids.
- TRACE: Hey, Linda.
- JOHN: Hey, baby.
LINDA: Hey, welcome back.
- Catch you at the interview tomorrow? - Yeah.
If we're voting on what song to add to the set, I'm for "Bargain and Boots.
" - Let's lay down "Country State of Mind.
" - Fine by me.
Well, I'm off to see if I still got my apartment.
- Good luck with that.
- LEIGH: Adios.
JOHN: All right.
- Hey, Trace.
- Yeah? Linda and I got a spare bedroom if you don't want to do the hotel.
It's all right.
I'm just gonna check in, call Abby and crash.
- All right.
Sounds good.
Yep! - Thanks.
- Good to see you.
- You too, Trace.
- JOHN: How you doing, baby? - Hey.
We'll have you for dinner.
[CAR HORN HONKING.]
ABBY: Ugh.
I just don't wanna find another picture.
Didn't Trace say that they back off once they get their pictures unless there's money involved? Well What if he's wrong? What if it gets worse? What if this is just the start? When I moved home, I came so that life would be simpler.
So I could spend time with the girls and family Life is never simple, Abby.
- Yes, well, it should be.
- Heh.
- Where are you in Bree's manuscript? - Halfway done.
It's good.
I don't understand why everyone's so upset.
I can kind of see our family.
There's no one like me.
James O'Connell.
What? He runs a ranch in Colorado.
He's nothing like me.
Although I did like this part.
"James' heart was damaged on the rodeo circuit.
There was no denying his future would be shaped by the vertical scar that traveled down his chest.
" Scars are cool.
You're such a nerd.
[CELL PHONE RINGING.]
Oh - KEVIN: Jordan.
- Kevin, look at this.
- KEVIN: What? - Ugh.
Is she okay? No, I'll be right there.
What is it? Sarah was hurt at work.
She's on her way to the hospital.
[ABBY SIGHS.]
Plane ticket already paid I'm gone But I don't mean nothing I'm close even though I'm far away That's how I remember you Stuck here on the red-eye special I can't wait to see you again So don't think of me I've been around Just listen for the sweet, sweet sound Of the taxi pulling up the driveway I'm coming home soon I'm coming home soon Doo-da, da-da-da Da-da-da-da Doo-da, da-da-da Da-da-da Doo-da, da-da-da Hey, Kev, you sure you don't want coffee? It's undrinkable.
Come on.
It can't be that bad.
Mm.
Oh, you're right.
It is undrinkable.
You know, Connor, Abby's left.
You can too, okay? I've spent lots of time in hospitals.
I'll survive.
Uh-huh.
That's your big argument for staying, "Uh-huh"? Connor, I'm I'm fine.
That's like the fiftieth time you've said, "I'm fine" in the last two hours.
Because I'm not fine.
Hey, I know.
I don't think I understood what you guys went through when I got hurt until now.
Honestly, I don't know which one is worse.
[KEVIN SIGHS.]
KEVIN: Hey.
So, what's going on? Few bumps and bruises.
Could've been worse.
They spent the night checking on her.
How close was it? I pulled her out before the roof collapsed.
Honestly, too close.
SARAH: I'm fine.
You don't have to wheel me out.
I can walk.
Okay, Sarah! [PEOPLE CLAPPING.]
Let's get you out of here.
Yeah.
I'm fine.
Thanks.
[.]
Just curious.
Is there anyone manning the station? [ALL CHUCKLE.]
[.]
All right.
Thank you very much.
Sarah's gonna be okay.
We can give thanks for that.
I don't think she's gonna be that hungry, Mom.
Then it's for Kevin also.
- ABBY: Oh, muffins.
- You must be exhausted.
- Yeah.
Luckily, Connor took over for me.
- How's Kevin doing? - He's telling everyone he's fine.
- Of course he is.
- And you? - I'm in need of a coffee and a shower.
- Oh, and a ride to Baltimore.
- I'll give you one when I take down - the wedding lights.
- Forty-five minutes? Yeah.
[.]
ABBY: You okay there? [ABBY LAUGHS.]
Okay, who had the worst night ever? Me.
Hands down.
No argument possible.
- ABBY: Don't think that's true.
- Sarah got hurt on duty.
- What? Is she okay? - Yeah.
Yeah, no, she's fine.
Kevin's taking her home.
- MEGAN: Hey, morning.
- MICK: Hey.
I brought cinnamon rolls for Kevin and Sarah.
Would you be putting them in the basket.
Please? Thank you.
- Why was your night bad? - I was up all night trying to put them together.
- MICK: Hitting a deadline? - More like missing one.
You know what Ms.
Marvel says about deadlines: They're like dominos.
If one's out of place, nothing falls.
Well, you can tell Ms.
Marvel she can take her domino and Well, I can't wait to read it.
Anyway, I have Now I'm getting daily calls from my publisher - asking when it's gonna be done.
- So can't help me with the lights? - No, I can't.
- Think Jess will have time? Jess is at the B&B putting it back together.
Whoever took care of it while we were gone made a mess.
Starving artist.
Bye! [.]
Megan? Would you help me take down the lights? I'm it.
I'd love to.
[.]
The toughest part's being on a bus for six months.
I know more about these guys than I ever wanted to.
[LAUGHS.]
But it's nice, being together on the road.
- The band is like a second family.
- Yeah, the one you never wanted.
[ALL LAUGHING.]
We're glad the Trace Riley Band is back together.
When we come back in a minute, wanna play something for us? You know it.
[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYS OVER SPEAKERS, THEN FADES OUT.]
You got 30 seconds, guys.
I can't believe we're being featured on WDPL.
It's going well, right? And I can't believe my wife wants me to invite you guys for dinner tonight.
- I can't.
Plans.
- Of course.
Yeah.
What about you, Trace? - Is Linda cooking? - JOHN: Yeah.
- TRACE: Then I'd love to come.
- Of course.
Six o'clock.
- All right.
- Guys, we're back in three, two [.]
JESS: I just walked out.
- Was that a walk? I'd call that stomp.
- It was impressive.
- It was, wasn't it? I just can't believe David and I are over.
Maybe the Pecks understood how I felt.
Maybe they're gonna welcome me back.
Maybe the phone will ring right now.
Right now.
Right now.
This timing thing is not working out.
- It's not necessarily over.
- It is.
I'd love nothing more than to go down this emotional rabbit hole with you.
But right now I have to focus on reality and what's in front me.
And at this moment it is writing problems that won't go away.
You could do what I'm doing and pretend it's over, like David and me.
- Done.
- Does it work? - No, it's making me angry.
- I'm angry too.
I spent so much time writing this, and my editor is pressuring me - to rush the editing.
That's not simple.
- Especially for someone who overcomplicates everything.
Simon? - What are you doing here? - I was talking to your editor who also happens to be my editor, and I volunteered to help simplify your life.
- You mean my book? - Of course.
Brilliant.
So Hmm.
- MICK: There are more boxes in the garage.
- Found them.
- Thank you.
- Here you are.
- Hey, how are Thomas and Robin doing? - They're having an amazing time.
- He's teaching her how to surf.
- Surfing, huh? - Mm-hm.
- Well, I hope it works out.
- You don't sound enthusiastic.
- No.
I hope it works out for them.
- It has been 30 years.
- That's no reason not to try.
MICK: But there is reason for diminished expectations.
- Maybe, but I'm not giving up hope.
- No.
Nor am I.
- Same go for you and Connor? - Of course.
- Because, Mick, it seems that - We will work it out.
I promise you.
"Working it out" should be above the O'Brien crest.
Right under stubborn.
- What about charm? O'Briens have lots.
- Oh, really? - I've been known to have my moments.
- Once or twice.
- [CHUCKLES.]
- So, what do I get for helping you out? - What do you have in mind? - Giovanni's pizza.
I haven't had a good margherita pizza since I left New York.
Yeah.
I'm in.
Did you know the margherita pizza was named after Queen Margherita? Right.
So I found the source and radioed it in.
I heard Kyle yell, "The pumps are down.
" I'm like, "What?" Next thing I know, the trusses collapse, I'm down for the count.
But thanks to Jordan, I'm still here.
To Jordan! - MAN 1: To Jordan! - MAN 2: Yeah, Jordan! [BAND PLAYING "HEAD DOWN/HEART UP".]
- Mm.
I love this song.
We have to dance.
- KEVIN: Unh! Hey, hey, Sarah.
We don't have to do everything all at once.
Fine.
We'll just dance.
- Sarah.
- Come on, I wanna dance.
Couldn't rewind, too late So much for fate So much for feeling the break KEVIN: All right.
I just wanna break free Drive until the tank's on empty [.]
[TALKING INDISTINCTLY.]
JOHN: Here we go.
Here we go.
Train.
Here we go.
You ready? You ready to lead us out? Wanna get that one on? Let me see you play.
Yeah, okay, bedtime.
Bedtime.
[LAUGHS.]
- Hon.
- JOHN: Oh.
Uh-huh.
- Yep.
- LINDA: You're up.
[JOHN SIGHS, THEN LINDA LAUGHS.]
Wanna stick around? This will only take an hour or two.
[CHUCKLES.]
JOHN: Dinosaur? Yeah.
All right.
Here we go.
Got your dinosaur.
All right.
By the second book, I just look at the pictures and make stuff up.
- Come up with anything good? - You know what? I gotta be honest.
- I'm pretty funny.
- TRACE: [CHUCKLES.]
It's Freddie the Fish time! Can I get you anything else, Trace? - Want more coffee? Pie? - No, I am - I'm fine.
- You sure? I should get going.
Give Abby a call before she goes to bed.
- Oh.
I understand.
- But thank you for an amazing meal.
And when Freddie the Fish comes up for air, thank him for me too.
Of course.
You're welcome any time, Trace.
And thank you.
- Good night, Linda.
- Good night.
I'll walk you out.
"Suddenly, Freddie the Fish stopped.
He wasn't facing Squirrel Man.
- It was the evil Mr.
Shoe.
- [CHUCKLES.]
'Mr.
Shoe, I thought you were still trapped in your house of waffles.
'" [PHONE BEEPING.]
[BUZZING.]
Hi, it's Abby.
Leave a message.
Hey, Abby, it's me.
I was just calling to say hi.
I miss you.
[.]
[.]
Hey.
Uh, hey.
- Your office told me you'd be here.
- Yeah, I have a breakfast meeting.
- I'm second chair on that lawsuit now.
- They're lucky to have you.
Have you got a minute? Connor, I'm asking you if you have a minute for me.
Well, you're here.
Sure, have a seat.
I came to drop this off.
It's the discovery documents from the trust settlement.
- You could have left them at my office.
- You know me, face to face.
If you have some free time this afternoon you could come down to the marina.
You planning on tearing it down? - Put up an office building? - [LAUGHS.]
Not today, but you never know.
No, I got this side project and I thought you'd like to check it out.
Maybe, I don't know.
I'll have to check my schedule.
Okay, well, whatever you want.
[SIGHS.]
I hope I'll see you this afternoon.
[.]
- JESS: I can't believe the Pecks set me up like that.
- BREE: I know.
- JESS: They lied to me.
- BREE: I know! I know what that feels like too.
I've been lied to by Simon Atwater.
He's not British! I knew that accent was fake.
No, when he read the first draft of the manuscript all he could talk about was how much he loved it.
And now everything he loved about it, he wants me to change.
He says it's not emotional.
Emotional? You're like the most emotional person I know.
Besides me.
- Thank you, sort of.
- Do you have to listen to him? I mean, he's here on his own, isn't he? What kind of editor comes to your house? Yeah, no, he totally just volunteered to help.
What's annoying though is that he's right a lot of the time.
- So - Know what? We're gonna be fine, okay? We just need to stop stressing about men and our problems with men.
We need to focus on what's good in our lives and that we are strong women.
We are sisters and nothing can break - the bonds of sisterhood.
- Yeah! [CELL PHONE RINGS.]
That is Sorry.
Hello.
Yes.
Uh-huh.
I will be right there.
Mm-hm.
Okay, thanks.
- What? We are the sisters, though.
- ABBY: I have to go to work.
- We were being strong.
- The three of us, not two.
- Like this, together.
Stronger together.
- JESS: Tripod.
Strong - Two.
- Like this.
We have to be.
We have no choice.
Timeless I'm never gonna be the same Your love is timeless To me All my minutes, they go missing And I lose track of time Whenever you're around Like an hourglass That last through all these years Your love is timeless You're never gonna feel this way Your love is timeless To me JOHN: Heh.
What'd you do, make that up overnight? It was a long night.
- Couldn't sleep.
- JOHN: Wow.
Well, I'm glad I didn't read you a bedtime story then.
[TRACE CHUCKLES.]
- It's really good.
- Thanks.
I change my vote from "Bargain and Boots" to - What's it called? - It's called "Timeless.
" What'd you think, Leigh? [.]
Whoa, whoa.
No, no, no.
Not that.
Not that.
The sled is emblematic of the character's internal struggle for self-discovery and acceptance.
Right.
Do you like winter sports? - Sledding and skating and such? - Yes.
Yes.
I spent a semester overseas in Copenhagen.
Or "Copenhagen," as the locals like to call it, and we spent all winter No, no.
That That is my favorite paragraph.
Okay.
For my own edification, is every paragraph your favorite paragraph? Yes.
I have a problem with people editing my work.
Evidently, but these, they're just suggestions.
I'm using a pencil.
Okay, no, but wait! This was your favorite anecdote.
You called this smart and witty and brilliant.
But you do say "brilliant" a lot.
It's an English thing.
Just so you know, I did find it witty, charming and brilliant.
And I recommend you should use it, but not here.
- Ugh.
- In your next novel.
Why are you really here, Simon? I was talking to Steve Kennedy, who knows I brought your book in.
And he said that you submitted eight different drafts of your manuscript.
They just wanna know which one you wanna submit.
So you're "just here to help"? At your service.
[.]
KEVIN: Hey, so we're done, right? - SARAH: I don't feel done.
- Look, five miles is done.
SARAH: I don't wanna stop.
Maybe we could just, I don't know, go out, get a beer.
Talk a little bit.
Chill.
I was thinking maybe skydiving.
- KEVIN: You can't be serious.
- You could teach me.
- I saw your badge.
Freefall parachutist.
- There were reasons for jumping.
- Come on, it must've been fun.
- Not really.
Hey.
Hey.
Look, look.
[PANTING.]
Look, Sarah, I think you need to slow down a bit.
Ever since your accident, you've been a little intense.
I think you need to I don't know, talk about it.
Kevin, I'm doing great.
- I feel like Like I can do anything.
- I know.
Sarah, you - You were almost - I don't wanna hear it.
And if you don't wanna share this with me I'll just do it on my own.
Starting with another five.
[.]
Leigh, what's up? - You okay? - Yeah, I'm fine.
It's just we always write for the band together.
Like I said, I couldn't sleep, and I just At least tell me what you think.
Honestly.
Honestly I think it's one of the best thing you've ever written.
So "Timeless" it is.
Leigh.
Leigh.
What's really going on here? We're a writing team, right? We work together.
Of course we're still a team, but I mean, the song just came out This has nothing to do with us, right? Trace [CELL PHONE RINGING.]
It's Abby.
I gotta take this.
Hey, Abs.
- Sorry I missed your call last night.
- No, it's fine.
- You sound tired.
- Mm.
I didn't sleep.
Yeah, me neither.
Trace, I found another picture of us online from when we were saying goodbye in Dallas.
I think maybe we need to start being more careful.
I am.
That's what worries me.
I am getting paranoid whenever I'm out with the girls.
I know I have no reason to be.
I can't help it.
I don't know what to say.
- If I could stop these people, I would.
- Trace, this is serious.
Okay, there are pictures of my daughters online.
There's pictures of us.
The irony is every decision I have made in the last year has been to give my daughters a better life and to protect them.
I feel like I'm doing the opposite.
Abby, of course I want you to feel safe.
And making sure that you and the girls are secure, it's my number one priority.
- But I don't know what else I can do.
- You keep saying that.
But I'm just I'm not comfortable with this.
I can't shake the feeling that ultimately I'm responsible.
[.]
[.]
CONNOR: So - you have a sailboat? - I do.
CONNOR: Is this why you asked me here? MICK: I thought I could use a little help on the hatch.
I'm guessing Kevin was busy? I asked you.
I didn't ask Kevin.
- Who else knows about the sailboat? - You and Thomas.
- I've never sailed before.
- We can do that too.
- Now I know why you asked me here.
- What do you mean? You do this every time.
We never talk about what we need to talk about.
You invite me to share some secret, so I remember we have so much in common.
I invited you here because I thought you'd enjoy this.
And I want to spend time with you.
- That makes us fine? We're better? - We're far from fine.
I thought we could work on the hatch and on the rigging.
No, no, stop.
I'm so tired of this.
All we ever do is we fight, and then we make up, and then we do this.
We pretend that everything is better between us.
And then we just fight again.
Connor, I'm just trying to figure out a way to move past this.
With you figuring out how to get past this it's just going around in circles.
And I'm not interested.
[SIGHS.]
[TAPPING.]
- Okay, what now? - Nothing.
BREE: You haven't looked up in an hour.
What's up? Kacie's rather interesting.
Oh, interesting how? Interesting in a character way.
As a protagonist, she is charming - lovely, seemingly warm.
- "Seemingly warm"? I loved how you described her on page 42.
The anecdote about her not letting go of her VW Beetle for six years even though it never ran.
That That says more about her than all those words.
It says she really likes her old car.
"The car was unfixable.
" Page 72.
Where are you? - "The problem wasn't the car.
" - The problem was me.
- The problem was me.
- Bree.
Ice climbing without a rope.
That's what this feels like.
[.]
[.]
Forever gonna feel this way Your love is timeless To me I think we got it.
Yeah, I think so.
Cool.
All right.
Excuse me a second.
I'm gonna make a call.
Hey, Bree? It's Trace.
[CHUCKLES.]
Listen, I need to ask you a favor.
MEGAN: So how's Sarah doing? - KEVIN: She's fine.
- Yeah? In the past two days, we've gone running twice, bouldering a swim in the bay, and now she wants to skydive.
MEGAN: Heh.
Wow.
Kev she sounds like - Like me? - Yeah.
Yeah, I know.
Have you said something? I don't think it would make a difference.
I didn't listen to anyone when I got hurt.
I survived, Mom.
I put blinders on.
The last thing I wanted to think about was what would happen if I didn't.
But if she's pushing this hard, she's gonna hurt herself.
I know.
Kev, I can't begin to know what you went through.
But I do know the more you pretended to be okay, the more scared we got.
Yeah, I know.
What if I just call up the Pecks and ask them to have a sit-down.
I could bring a fruit platter.
They eat a lot of papaya.
They did, didn't they.
Unfortunately, Simon is really helping me with my book.
- Isn't that good? - BREE: Yeah, but As much as I love having you girls come visit me at work, why are you here? - We were in the neighborhood.
- Our neighborhood is an hour away.
We thought you always take care of us, so we should take care of you.
- And then maybe everything will be okay.
- It's okay.
It's gonna be fine.
I'm okay with the pictures and everything.
I mean, they're just pictures, right? It's not a big deal.
I need to stop thinking about TRACE: Hey, Abs.
Heh.
Hi.
What are you doing here? I was in the neighborhood.
- Thought you could use a break.
- Liars.
- Bye.
- Bye.
Here.
Sit down.
What is happening right now? I wrote you this.
Timeless You're never gonna be the same Your love is timeless To me All my minutes, they go missing And I lose track of time Whenever you're around An hour glass that lasts Through all these years Your love is timeless To me [LAUGHS.]
Don't you have a show? We finished.
I had a car take me to the airport.
Caught the last flight to Baltimore, then a taxi here.
And I have another radio interview at 10:00 in the morning.
- We have an hour before I have to leave.
- That's crazy.
Probably.
But I didn't want to have to make up over the phone.
[SIGHS.]
We weren't fighting.
I just [SIGHS.]
I want to protect Carrie, Caitlyn and us.
I don't know how.
Well, we'll figure it out together.
Well, I'm sorry that I got so upset last night.
I just was worried and was missing you.
Don't worry.
I get it.
It's hard.
Yeah.
[.]
I can't believe you came here just to sing me a song.
And to let you know that you are the most important person in my life.
And I know I keep saying that, so I figured this time I'd show you.
Face to face.
Face to face.
[.]
MEGAN: [CHUCKLES.]
I love this place.
I remember the first time we came here.
I was 21.
- Mm-hm.
You forgot your wallet.
- Yeah.
Found a payphone, called my father.
He waited outside while I snuck out to get it.
- I knew what was going on.
- I knew you knew.
I was grateful you didn't say anything.
I don't think I told you.
Dad slipped a 20 in my wallet that night.
He always very fond of you.
Your dad, he was always easy on me.
Yes, he was.
- And tough on you.
- Mm.
- I think you and Connor - Don't make this about me and Connor.
- I'm just trying to help.
- I know, but you can't.
That was something I had to work out with my father.
This is something Connor has to work out with me.
- So here's to working things out? - Sooner rather than later.
Amen to that.
- Would you like to look at the menu? - We have talked about what we want.
We're gonna have two margherita pizzas with hot pepper flakes.
- And extra cheese, please.
- WAITRESS: Sure thing.
- Yeah.
- WAITRESS: Perfect.
Sounds good.
Thank you.
I think it's great what you two are doing.
- My parents still go out on dates too.
- [.]
- JESS: Right there.
Mm-mm-mm.
- CONNOR: Mm.
- Ah, pie is how I figure things out.
- [CHUCKLES.]
- You mean with David? - No, with everything.
I don't know what I was thinking.
David and I are never gonna be together.
We're like Romeo and Juliet, only more depressing because we're both still alive.
- But you feel dead inside.
- That's very deep.
I do deep well.
- I've had to a lot with Dad.
- You must be deeply in deep.
- Oh, yeah.
- It's more fun being angry.
Yeah, I get that too but tiring.
[SIGHS.]
I don't know if Dad and I are gonna make up.
Maybe you already have and you don't know it.
Maybe you're so used to being angry you don't know how to be anything else.
Should I forget everything that's happened? No, you just do what I did with Mom.
Focus on the now.
Because the "then" has never been good.
What are we gonna do when we run out of pie? - We'll have to be okay with all of this.
- Or order another pie.
Now that's deep.
[LAUGHS.]
[PLAYING "WEST COAST/TIDE II".]
Meet me on the West Coast Ahem.
Hi.
Hi.
I think we should talk.
I'd be delighted.
- Should I begin? - No, no, no.
I think I should.
- Are you sure? - Yeah.
No, it's me.
It's, um I'm just having some trouble with the words.
It's been my experience writers never have trouble just finding the words.
It's finding the right ones.
Clever.
Occupational hazard.
Sorry.
Right.
Um You know what, I'm just gonna Okay, here it is.
I'm Kacie.
And, um everything you said about me emotionally protecting myself by buying the wrong car or the wrong guy or Martin, or whatever, that is true.
That's what I do.
I've been thinking about that all afternoon.
[CLEARS THROAT.]
I was insensitive.
And I am sorry if I hurt you.
I'm sorry, um if I've been unfair.
You came here to help.
I mean, all you've ever done is helped.
And all I've ever done is push you away.
It's just Ahem.
It's where I feel most comfortable.
Did you want to say something too? Well I was just gonna ask if you wanted a pint.
Brilliant.
[CHUCKLES.]
One more please.
Hey, you made it.
This is gonna be fun.
KEVIN: Yeah.
Sarah, I'm not going.
What? Why? I know what you're doing because I did it too.
After my accident, after I knew that I was gonna be okay what I felt was amazing.
Everything was different: food, music the sky even looked different somehow.
[CHUCKLES.]
It just felt like there was nothing that I couldn't do.
And I did some really silly things.
Skydiving isn't silly.
No, it's not about that.
You can't go from high to high.
At some point, it's gonna hit you why you're really doing it.
I'm doing this to celebrate.
Maybe.
I did it because I was scared.
Terrified actually.
Because for a moment, I thought I was gonna die.
There's nothing I could do.
[.]
I thought I was gonna die too.
[.]
Dad, this boat's in pretty rough shape.
[MICK SIGHS.]
It does need a little work.
A lot of it.
It'll all be worth it once I get her under sail.
So, uh, where do you want me to start? Maybe with the ropes? Actually they're only called ropes until they're in place.
Once they're in place, we call them lines, or sheets, or halyards or downhauls.
This, for instance, is the main sheet.
- Why do they call it that? - You know, I have no idea.
[CONNOR CHUCKLES.]
- MICK: You know how to tie a bowline? - No.
- Don't know much about boats, do you? - Well, no.
No one was there to teach me.
[.]
I'm sorry.
Thank you.
Well, you wanna teach me how to tie that knot? Sure.
Come on board.
All right.
Actually, the bowline is one of the greatest and yet the simplest knot since nautical history.
Pretty straightforward.
KEVIN: Okay.
All right.
[KEVIN PANTING.]
Okay, so we're done, right? We're not doing another 10 miles? - That's it.
- Oh, I love you.
I mean, no.
I love that we're done running.
And You know what? I do.
I love you.
I love you.
And that we're done running.
So - we love each other.
- Yeah.
Yeah, I guess we do.
[.]
KEVIN: More running? Come on! BREE: Right here.
I mean, I don't know.
I think the VW bit is redundant.
I think we can trim it.
It's up to you.
Oh.
Are you saying that as my editor, or whatever you are? What am I? That's a good question.
I do know I'm your Wallace.
Your marine biologist with a penchant for flounder.
Does that bother you? On the contrary, I'm flattered.
He does grow on you.
[SIGHS.]
You know what, I say trim the bug.
It's time I get a car I don't need to repair.
Well, you know, there are some excellent late-model British cars on the market.
I do like Aston Martins.
I wonder if Daniel Craig is available.
- Still married.
- Hm.
Daniel Radcliffe? He drove a broom.
[BOTH LAUGH.]
- Noted.
- Right.
New plants, new beginnings.
You know, I think I finally understand why Gran likes gardening so much.
It slows everything down.
It's cathartic.
It always gives me time to think.
And try not to make things what they're not.
And you're over David? No, but I haven't thought about him in about 42 minutes, so - Until I mentioned him.
- Yeah.
Sorry about that.
[CHUCKLES.]
Oh, more guests.
[.]
DAVID: Jess O'Brien - JESS: David.
- I think you forgot something.
It fits.
[LAUGHS.]
I don't know if you're still in the market for a cook, gardener, handyman, anything.
But I'd like to submit my application.
- Do you have any references? - Just one.
I missed her more than anything.
[JESS SQUEALS.]
[JESS AND DAVID LAUGHING.]
[CLEARS THROAT.]
You know who makes a good burger? Paulies in Philly.
- Remember that? - Yeah.
Best plate of fries.
Now, was that ketchup or barbecue sauce? [BOTH LAUGH.]
You boys all set? You coming, John? - JOHN: I'm gonna miss you.
- I'm gonna miss you.
- JOHN: Be back soon.
- Yeah.
- TRACE: Let's do this.
- Yep.
[.]
[.]
NARRATOR: Next time on Chesapeake Shores: - Killer breakfast.
- Trace, you're back! - I like you.
I don't wanna give that up.
- We'll have the "what are we" talk? Yeah.
You might have been there financially, but you weren't always there emotionally.
Trace, this is who I am.
I love her and I hope you like her too, because I'm gonna ask her to marry me.
