Earth: Final Conflict s03e15 Episode Script

Sanctuary

Previously on Gene Roddenberry's Earth Final Conflict: We shall treasure this as a memento of Ma'el.
I alerted the South American Companion and his Protector, should there be any future finds by the Doors construction crews.
You are seeking an alliance with Da'an to oppose à me.
If I am to alter your misguided course for our species, I need Da'an as an ally.
Zo'or's sphere of influence in unravelling, Agent Sandoval.
It is wise to know when to move out of harm's way and with whom you may find shelter.
The Commonality is so weakened, one Taelon may kill another.
Zo'or is the assassin among us.
And when the time is right I will make him pay dearly for it.
Volunteer divers found it on the ocean just last night off the coast of Rio La Yapana, Peru.
And you did say to avoid any chances with the vial's atomic structure, so I had it transported by air as opposed to ID portal or shuttle.
As always, you have an answer for everything, Agent Sandoval.
Since the Taelon relics were found a few months ago, we've been widening our search pattern.
Your Volunteer recovery team has done well.
Who would have thought that the relics of a wandering ancient like Ma'el might hold the secret to your species' future? The Taelon archeological crew believe this vial was part of Ma'el's private and potentially dangerous research.
Nonsense.
I can almost feel Ma'el's presence.
It will be all for now.
Axarion They have come to Earth with the promise of peace.
An alien race called the Taelons.
But, there are those who resist these Alien Companions.
For the Taelons' true mission, the secrets they hide will forever alter our world.
The fate of humanity now relies on those who dare challenge the future of Earth.
You must be Mit'gai.
Lu'yoi? I rather enjoy the human delineation: healer.
- Major Liam Kincaid, Da'an's Protector.
- I am well aware of you, Major.
Da'an asked me to check on his progress.
Inform Da'an catastrophe may very well have struck.
Zo'or has inexplicably contracted Pesh'tal, a Taelon virus that is not been see in over a thousand years.
Then how did Zo'or contract it? Apparently the virus was contained within a vial on Ma'el's ship.
And Zo'or's immune system was unprepared for its onslaught.
This Pesh'tal plague struck your home world? No, but decimated a remote Taelon colony.
Fortunately, we were able to contain the virus there.
So, before Ma'el arrived on Earth 2,000 years ago, he must have visited the colony.
It was part of his mission.
Why would he bring Pesh'tal to Earth? He was a scientist, some sample was taken for some reason.
We will probably never know.
Was a cure ever developed? No, our only success was isolating Pesh'tal to the colony.
The virus became dormant, and defied analysis.
But it never recurred.
Our medical data lists it as extinct.
Well, it was fortunate Zo'or was alone here instead on the mother ship.
Yes, perhaps, it will spare us an epidemic.
I must pursue a cure immediately, all Taelons are at grave risk.
And what about the risk to humanity? I am a Taelon healer, Major Kincaid.
Imagine the possibilities, this could be a big step to better understanding Taelon biology.
Aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself? Even the Taelons don't know what causes Pesh'tal, how it spreads or how to treat it.
Precisely my point, if we can seize the moment, we might be able to create some kind of biological weapon to fight them.
A weapon that could be as deadly to us as it is to the Taelons.
Fine.
Then we need to understand Pesh'tal to save ourselves.
Either way we gotta get our hands on the sample of the virus.
And find someone to who can break it down for us.
Any idea who? One.
You appear to be as infirm as Zo'or.
Perhaps you have been infected with the Pesh'tal virus yourself.
Doubtful.
Lu'yoi has placed Zo'or in an isolation vortex, which he believes will contain the virus.
Then it must be shock that the Synod appointed me to oversee matters during Zo'or's incapacitation.
Not only were you passed over for an appointment which you took for granted, but you were forced to be the messenger of that decision as well.
I will not question the wisdom of the Synod.
And you wonder why I hold you in such contempt.
You accept whatever fate hands you.
A victim of history, as opposed to using your own will to create history.
Your appointment is temporary.
Any twist of fate can turn temporary into permanent.
In any event, the Synod's choice was a vote of no-confidence in Zo'or's tactics.
You imbue a deeper meaning into the Synod's decision than was intended.
You are a fool who allows the decisions of others to rule your life.
It is a time for you to take a stand, Da'an.
Cast off your misspend loyalties to Zo'or, and join me.
If the Pesh'tal plague is not contained, the very existence of our species is threatened.
That would be the sole focus of a true leader, T'than.
- I understand the predicament you're in.
- It's not a predicament.
Renee, please, if you could do the research here, you wouldn't be coming to me with your figurative hat and your figurative hand.
No one's begging, Augur.
Right.
I'd be happy to help - on one condition.
- Oh, see? Here we go.
I would like to make my place a sterile environment, state of the art ordnance, top to bottom.
That's fair, I agree.
And when I'm finished, the equipment stays.
Alright, alright! Wait a minute, that was too easy.
What does this mean to you? Renee is convinced that there is a weapon to be developed here.
Liam thinks that wouldn't be fair.
I never said that, the Taelons don't know much about Pesh'tal, we know even less.
Who knows what kind of Pandora's box could be opened here.
Zo'or will have no visitors, Taelons or human, until I can develop vaccine.
So, you're concerned humans could be at risk from Pesh'tal as well.
My concern is that an infected human could contaminate a Taelon.
Are these samples of Zo'or's energy infected with the Pesh'tal virus? Of course.
Da'an is expecting an update on Zo'or's condition.
Inform Da'an that I will appraise him when I am prepared to do so.
What's wrong, Da'an? T'than is now the acting head of the Synod in Zo'or's absence.
I thought you were next in the order of succession.
I am.
But the Synod elected to override that mandate and named T'than to the post.
Zo'or has disappeared.
He should know better than to walk around like that at night.
So should we.
What are we going to do? We're on a date.
Is this date more important than helping this poor guy? Remember Dr.
DeParis always says.
Yeah, I know.
"We are together in this world, so we help each other to help themselves".
Come on.
Are you okay? Lost, huh? Yes.
I have a terrible feeling I am very far from where I belong.
Yeah, you really shouldn't be out here at night, alone.
Come on, we'll take you home.
- Home? - Yes.
It's okay.
Yeah.
You are very kind.
My findings did not indicate Zo'or would regain consciousness, let alone walk under his own power.
Well, Zo'or's not here, your findings were faulty.
Obviously.
No way he could've made it past the embassy's security.
The portal the only other way out.
- He could have traveled anywhere.
- Obviously.
Tracing Zo'or through the portal system would be routine, Major.
It'll anything but routine, Mit'gai.
However, Agent Sandoval's at the Portal Authority working that angle right now.
And you? I understood that several of your species have reported seeing Zo'or.
These reportings must be researched.
I appreciate the tip.
Do not downplay the significance of this potential source of information.
Good idea.
Let's see what we've got so far.
Oh, here's a guy sharing a BLT with Zo'or as we speak.
He wants to know why Taelons don't like bacon.
It looks like Zo'or's been busy, just proposed marriage to this young woman.
And here's a twist on the obligatory ransom demand: trip to the mother ship for the safe return of our beloved Companion.
Now that Zo'or is no longer in the embassy, I will continue my research on the mother ship, with my full complement of equipment.
There's one question you can answer, Mit'gai.
Who released the information about Zo'or's disappearance? I told the world about Zo'or.
Perhaps, it would've been more prudent to withhold the information, at least for a little while, so not to alarm the public.
And, perhaps, it would be prudent for you to remember to whom you are speaking.
And, perhaps, Zo'or allows you to question his decisions, but under no circumstances may you question mine.
I'll remember that, T'than.
- Now we have to be very quiet.
- Right, we're not even supposed to be here.
So, just think what would happen if they'd found you here.
I promise, I will be quiet.
This is our secret hiding place.
"Kelly, please, be my valentine.
Love, Tom".
Just keep quiet, Zo'or, and no one will know you're here.
Okay? Good night.
Good night, Kelly and Tom.
And thank you.
- Are you sorry we helped him? - No, no way.
But I just don't know when we can get a chance to sneak out.
Come on.
- I'm glad we brought him here.
- Me, too.
Hello, Doctor.
We know so little about Pesh'tal, because there was insufficient research at the stricken colony.
It appears one symptom is a selective amnesia.
The victim simply forget they were ill.
This was clearly the state of Zo'or's mind when he wandered away.
Yes.
Do net be alarmed.
This vessel is impermeable to the Pesh'tal virus.
Run this sample through the gamma sequence.
We shall never have a greater opportunity to ensure Zo'or's demise, than we do at this moment.
I understand.
However, if Zo'or dies before we locate him, the Pesh'tal virus will most certainly threaten the lives of every Taelon on Earth.
Of course, we will locate him.
The issue is whether we cure him.
Consider your own words, T'than.
You have repeatedly stated that we can never allow humanity to see a weakened Taelon.
And that truth remains.
In this instance, though, it would be advantageous in the short run for humanity to see a weak and useless Zo'or.
Because in the long run, it will leave humanity utterly unprepared for dealing with me.
Currently the radiation from Zo'or's Pesh'tal infection countermand at the Portal Authority's tracking system.
So, they have to track him through the system out-port to out-port.
Sandoval's doing the portal trackings, Liam's, um Liam's following up on incredible Zo'or sightings.
If you hear some of those phone calls, it's a real crazies out there.
Yeah, well, my money is on Zo'or gigging with Elvis and Marilyn in Atlantic City.
Hey, you know that I had to recalibrate all the equipment you brought me so it be compatible with Taelon energy frequencies.
Then I had to design all new output parameters so that we could actually interpret the data we received.
All the while keeping in mind that we're dealing with a potentially life-threatening virus here.
Now, personally, I think that Augur Right, so, let's get on with it, so you can collect your Nobel prize, alright? Ingrate.
Ready? Nice work.
Einstein.
Stop making excuses, I need the data immediately.
- Mit'gai.
- Major Kincaid, why are you here? You reported to Da'an that you've made a breakthrough with the virus.
- He wants me to be briefed.
- Very well.
You're not recruiting any Taelons to assist you? Of course not.
The Pesh'tal virus is much too dangerous to intentionally expose to any Taelons.
But human exposure is an acceptable risk? Certainly.
When Zo'or left quarantine, he made human exposure inevitable.
But I have designed containment fields to limit the risk in here.
These are samples of Zo'or's infected energy.
We have successfully accelerated the disease to the next level.
This energy is neutronic in nature.
And as such will have irreversible and lethal effects on Zo'or's body, if we do not reach him in time.
The next step is to create an antidote.
Leave me alone! - Drop the weapon! - Shut up! Did your research anticipate this? I must now concede that humans exposed to Pesh'tal virus - experience psychotic episodes.
- Thanks for the update.
I'm narrowing down Zo'or's journey.
Good, because one of the technicians had a Pesh'tal related breakdown in the lab.
I have isolated the cause of the human's breakdown.
The Pesh'tal virus interrupted the flow of energy between the synapses of his brain.
What does that mean for Zo'or? Once Zo'or reaches the same level of infection, he will release an expanded sphere of neutron energy, approximately 50 square miles.
And we've seen how contagious Pesh'tal can be once it affects a human.
The tech exhibited extreme paranoia within minutes of contact.
We're talking about a plague of madness spreading exponentially.
Zo'or departed a portal system in Lower Manhattan.
Let's go.
Utilize extreme caution.
As the disease progresses, Zo'or will become increasingly unstable.
Any anxiety could precipitate Pesh'tal symptoms, turning New York into a city of homicidal psychopaths.
Zo'or can't have gone very far.
You honestly believe this anti-Pesh'tal patch will protect us from the virus? Mit'gai created it form force field quarantine technology.
If Mit'gai been doing his job properly, Zo'or never would've made it out of the embassy.
Take the park, Major.
The revelation of Pesh'tal danger to humans would only lead to widespread panic.
Very well, Da'an, I will keep this secret within our walls.
But only because of the threat to the Taelons.
I am unconcerned with human casualties.
Even you must understand the negative impact on public perception of the Taelons if massive human deaths occur from Pesh'tal.
Public perception.
My philosophy is simple.
Slaughter enough humans and they will obey.
How strategic.
I have been extraordinarily patient with you, Da'an.
But my patience is at its end.
If you do not now declare your intention to stand with me, then you stand against me, with all that implies.

Dr.
Elaine DeParis, Agent Sandoval.
How can I help you? Dr.
DeParis, we have reason to believe that Zo'or is in the neighborhood.
Oh, well, I can assure you he isn't here.
What is the nature of your work here, Dr.
DeParis? Bushnell Institute is a private psychiatric facility.
Have a tour? Hey, guys, got a minute? Major Liam Kincaid, Companion Protector.
Cool.
Yeah, we're investigating the disappearance of Zo'or, leader of the Taelon Synod.
Have you seen him around? No.
No, Max hasn't seen him either.
We gotta go, come on.
- Any luck? - Not in the park, but - I checked the place out, it's clean.
- I'm not so sure.
Don't waste our time, Major, we got an entire neighborhood to canvas.
Right, you get started.
I'll catch up with you later.
Right.
Renee, I need your help.
Don't worry, Zo'or, we'll protect you from those guys.
Nobody's taking you away.
I read the rest of your letters.
If you are so much in love, why are you not married? We haven't been completely honest with you, Zo'or.
Yeah, this isn't really a prep school.
It's a psychiatric hospital.
And we're patients.
How is that relevant to the issue of your marriage? Well, since they think we're both crazy, our parents aren't happy with us dating.
We have to sneak around behind their backs.
And if Dr.
D finds out, then she tells, then we'll have to sneak around behind her back, too.
Now that is rather sad.
I do not like you, Sandoval.
But I acknowledge your nerve.
With Zo'or gone, you would logically follow him into oblivion.
However, I do see your value to me, albeit limited.
I therefore offer you one opportunity to put our enmity aside and work for me.
Zo'or's yet to be found, dead or alive.
Precisely.
And you are in control of that situation.
See to it that Zo'or dies.
You will then serve as my Protector.
And what if Zo'or survives the ordeal, regardless of my efforts? You would not be held responsible.
On the other hand, if you do not work with me to ensure Zo'or's demise, and in spite of that he dies anyway, so will you.
I understand and admire your love for both your parents.
Respect for those who came before you is paramount.
But your love for each other transcends everything your parents ask of you.
- How do you get to be so smart, Zo'or? - Is it because you're not human? - Kelly! - What? I didn't mean anything by it.
I am attempting to do with humanity precisely what your parents are trying to do to you.
What do you mean? They want to control your destiny for their own good.
We, Taelons, want to control the destiny of your species for our own good.
We tell you it is for your own protection.
But that is a lie.
We need humanity to fight our enemies.
- You have enemies? - Oh yes.
But you need not worry, Kelly.
Everything will all right.
If you're gonna be my husband, you better look the part.
Even undercover, I have an image to keep.
I am convinced Zo'or's nearby, if not in the building, then somewhere on the grounds.
You think this Dr.
DeParis lied? I don't know, but the way those kids reacted, something feels wrong.
Mr.
and Mrs.
Kent, come on in.
- Hello.
- Hello, a pleasure.
- Same here.
Thanks.
- Welcome.
Well, from what you told me on the global, I think your brother will be very happy.
He has very particular needs.
We would do our best to make certain that all those needs would be met.
Are you sure you're gonna be okay? I will be fine.
Okay.
Come on, let's get change, we'll meet in the hallway.
You wanted to see me, T'than? Yes.
I understand that the search for Zo'or continues to prove fruitless.
I'm afraid so.
Then, since I know how good you are at your job, I assume you have reached the decision about my proposal.
Yes.
I've decided to accept.
I will work with you.
That is a wise choice.
Now return to your duties.
Just one more thought, Sandoval.
I know that you are thinking one Taelon is the same as another.
And if by some twist of fate Zo'or returns to us you win either way.
This is just to let you know how transparent you are.
I am not to be toyed with.
T'than, toying with you never entered my mind.
What do you think, Mrs.
Kent? Will your brother be happy here? You have a wonderful facility here, Doctor.
Thank you, we certainly do our best.
Howdy, honey.
This is Kelly.
- Hi - Hi.
Will you excuse me? I'm Renee, and this is my husband Liam Kent.
You two been married long? Not too long.
It must be great to be together no matter what anybody else says.
- I'm real jealous.
- Why is that? I'm in love, too.
But we can't be together because our parents won't let us make our own choices.
Well, I'm sure your parents only want what's best for you.
But sometimes you have to make your own way in the world.
I knew the moment I saw you, you'd understand.
Hey, Kel.
- We have to go.
- Why? We just have to go, come on.
I saw the leader of the Synod.
He's here.
- In the institute.
- Where? Max, Max, calm down there, okay? Please, don't upset our guests.
It's okay, Dr.
DeParis, he seems to know something about that missing Taelon.
Max has had lunch on the mother ship.
Four times this month? Five, five.
Okay, it's good.
You're okay? So, what do you think? Well, uh We have a few more places we have to take a look at but we'll be in touch.
Terrific, I hope to hear from you soon.
- Thank you.
- Thanks again.
Bye-bye.
I think your instincts are right on this one.
We have to come up with a way to pinpoint Zo'or's location and neutralize him before the energy is released.
Assuming Mit'gai perfects the cure in time.
I have successfully created the means to arrest the Pesh'tal virus, Agent Sandoval.
I have equipped these patches with the antidotes.
Excellent.
I'll see to it that all my agents are duly equipped.
I have additional information that may complicate matters.
My initial calculations regarding Pesh'tal's incubation period were inaccurate.
How so? It will not be a matter of days before Zo'or reaches the point of toxicity.
It will be hours.
I finally isolated the Pesh'tal virus.
Can you create some kind of radar that is sensitive to the virus that could lead us to Zo'or? And what you really need is a Pesh'tal Geiger counter.
Whatever you wanna call it, we need to pinpoint Zo'or's exact location before he knows it, and without agitating him.
Cat and mouse game is just too risky.
I'm convinced he's somewhere on the Bushnell Institute grounds.
We have to hit Zo'or with Mit'gai's patch the moment we find him or else his anxiety will take out in the city.
- I'll do what I can.
- The clock is ticking.
And getting faster by the minute.
Come on, sweetheart, you have to take your medication, you know the rules.
Max saw Kelly and Tom going to the shelter.
They have a secret.
Alright.
You take care of her, and you two come with me.
Are you sure this is gonna work? We're talking about an untested jerry-rigged device to detect an alien virus that hasn't been around for thousand years.
Am I sure? - I get your point.
- Uplink to my mainframe.
Ready? Now.
The blue light indicates the presence of the Pesh'tal virus, then you open your map grid and voila, there's your Pesh'tal Geiger counter.
We'll know if it works or not if the tristate area is still sane in the morning.
What have you done with Kelly and Tom? - Kelly and Tom are fine.
- You are lying! - No, really, they're fine.
- Then where are they? Please, calm down, Zo'or.
Call that Companion Protector who came by, Agent Sandoval.
No! You cannot let them harm me! Zo'or, please.
This is for your own good.
No one wants to hurt you.
I warned you to stay away from me! - Dead on the money.
- Zo'or's on the Institute's grounds.
Looks like we may already be too late.
Get out of there! Back away from the door.
Stay away from me.
Stay away from me.
- I got her.
- Okay.
Kelly, Tom, it's Renee.
It's safe to come out.
How do we know you're not lying? - You gotta trust us? - Where's Zo'or? Zo'or's not here.
Listen.
Zo'or is in grave danger, so is everyone around him.
We wanna help him.
Kelly! We told him we'd protect him.
Zo'or told us to take control, that's what I'm doing.
Explain later.
Where is he? Zo'or's in the fallout shelter.
He's gone.
I've got him.
Looks like he's outside.
He's heading straight for the portal gate.
If reaches it, he could spread the virus all over the world.
Zo'or! It's Major Kincaid.
Mit'gai's introduced his cure for Pesh'tal for the Commonality.
- The virus is no longer an issue.
- Hey, you guys! We want so much to thank you guys for saving our lives, and Zo'or's, too.
And we finally convinced our parents to let us get engaged.
- Oh, wow! - That's lovely, Kelly.
You guys are such a good role models.
And I hope our marriage's gonna be as good as yours.
Hey, thanks, and congratulations.
And give Zo'or our love when you see him.
Right, first chance I get.
See you.
So, what's for dinner tonight, honey? In your dreams, honey.
Do not think your treachery has gone unreported.
I know full well that you did everything in your power to ensure I did not survive my ordeal, T'than.
Exactly as you would have, had our positions been reversed.
True.
And we can only hope that the opportunity to reverse those positions comes to me someday soon.
