Into the Vortex & Tavern Shapeshifter

Tonight on "Fact or Faked:".

Whoa! Whoa! Wow.
- Wasn't North this way? - Yeah.
That's North.
- Not according to the compass.
- That's really strange.
Whoa.
I actually feel kind of dizzy in here.
I do, too.
- Fan! - Oh! The world is not prepared to know the mysteries of this location.
I'm getting really fast temperature drops.
And the ion detector is picking up a lot of activity right now.
A craft of alien origin that we've never seen.
Can you show yourself? I'm seeing movement right above your head.
I'm on my way.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my goodness! There's a flying saucer.
I'm getting a series of lights right there.
So, you're seeing what I'm seeing? What the heck is happening? Hey.
How are you? How are you guys? What's happening, Ben? So, guys, I hope we've all been looking at some good videos.
- Yes.
- Yeah.
Why don't we kick it off right away with Bill, then? Okay.
I've got a clip.
It's all the way from Penrith, England.
This one was recorded in 2010 on a Security Camera at the General Wolfe Pub.
Now, the owner of the pub, Andrew Bateman.
Was reviewing footage from the previous day when he saw this.
- It's gonna be on the top right side.
- The top.
- Yeah.
- Wow.
What? It's translucent.
It's changing shape.
Yeah, almost looks like it's morphing.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
It looks like it's gonna take a seat on the couch.
Yeah, it does.
It's sitting down with two knees.
Exactly.
I see the same exact thing.
- What's flickering? - Whoa! Whoa! See, now, that's impressive.
I liked that.
Okay.
So, what is making us think that this is not just a bug on the lens? I think that's a little bit of pareidolia there because what I see is a silhouette that seems to be changing shape.
Yeah, the morphing definitely is a little different than anything I've seen.
What's the background behind this place? The background is interesting, actually.
This was an undertaker's shop where the pub now is.
Ironically, on the floor above the pub is where they housed the bodies when the entire building was a giant funeral parlor.
You said they stored dead bodies up top.
And it appears like whatever this apparition is, is literally coming from the ceiling.
Have any of the other people that have gone there experienced any more paranormal activity besides this? The travel agency next door that said they've had a number of events that have happened over the years that they can't explain.
I like it.
It's got some very intriguing aspects to it.
Before we lock it in, though, let's see what everyone else brought today.
So, Lanisha, tell us what you have.
I have smart phone footage that was shot through a car windshield.
Now, the witness shot this video in October of 2010.
As she was backing out of her driveway.
Take a look at what she captured.
- Okay.
Really? - It's really interesting.
Yeah.
- What the.
.
- Crazy, right? - Wow.
- Well, there's some impressive moves.
Whatever those are, they're flying fast.
- Yeah.
- Geez.
Could it be an R.
C.
? They're so far away, it's kind of really hard to tell what's going on here.
Are they far away? I mean, if this is an R.
C.
craft.
That's a lot of ground to cover.
Well, they appear to be far away because they do fly back behind the tree line.
Well, you know what, guys? Online theories range from.
.
UFOs to fireflies or even Angels.
But no one's been able to offer a reasonable explanation for these aerial acrobatics.
Well, let me show you something I'm having a big issue with.
Would you say it's a pretty far distance from the power lines to the trees? - Oh, yeah.
.
At least a city block.
- Yeah.
Right.
It's behind the power line, correct? Sure.
It's past the power line.
Watch.
It's in front of the power lines, correct? Wow.
Wow.
Now watch the tree line.
Dips behind the tree line.
Wow.
Huh.
It's either a craft of alien origin that we have no idea how the technology works.
.
Something that we've never seen.
.
Or C.
G.
It's always difficult when you have a low-res phone footage and the pixels are kind of dancing around.
Maybe we're looking at video of crafts that can maneuver at very high speeds.
It's still a good catch-all that Austin pointed out.
I mean, it's making us question the validity of this video.
Yeah.
It's inconsistent.
This is stimulating a lot of debate.
- Yeah.
- It's a good video.
Yeah, it's good.
I have a case for you which is really a location.
Now, you've all heard of mystery spots - around the world, right? - Yeah.
Of course.
The location defies the laws of physics.
Well, The Oregon Vortex is the granddaddy of them all.
People believe that The Oregon Vortex is this kind of swirling mass of energy centered right there.
Roughly about 165 feet in diameter.
I mean, this place has been photographed.
It's been written about.
It was even in an episode of "The X-Files.
" - Cool.
- Nice.
But is it really a mystery? Take a look at some of the phenomena that happen there.
In this video, this ball is actually rolling uphill, defying gravity.
What? So, now it's going uphill, back towards those people in the window? Correct.
Wait.
That ball's not being pushed by air or magnets or anything like that? Nope.
They give it a little shove, and it comes back to them going uphill.
- That's pretty cool.
- I mean.
.
Could this be an optical illusion, I mean, just the way the buildings are constructed? - Yeah.
- I can't tell if the people are leaning and are crooked or if the ground is crooked or if the ball's moving uphill.
So, here's another one.
Now, in this one, there's this location where two people can stand.
.
And differing heights.
You can see they're different.
- And they switch places.
.
- Oh, my gosh.
He's huge.
Whoa! Yeah.
Now, some people actually believe that they're changing height actually at a molecular level and that's what's going on inside of the pocket.
That would probably be super painful.
The vortex was bought by a man named John Lister.
Now, he was a surveyor and a scientist who became obsessed with this location.
So, he bought it, he opened it to the public, but he continued to do his own experiments.
But before he died, he took all of his notes, all of his research, and he burned it.
- What?! Ugh.
- Yeah.
He reportedly said the world is not prepared to know the mysteries that the vortex holds.
Oh, my gosh.
Oh! And they're adamant that what goes on here is real.
And they're actually allowing us to go in there and do our own research.
We've never done a case like this and.
.
And uh, I think we could bring some answers to this mystery.
Absolutely.
Okay well, I've got a video that was shot in November of 2011 at Lake Champlain in Vermont.
A local girl named Precious Anderson claimed that she's captured footage of Champ, the famous serpentine monster.
Oh, yeah.
I've heard of Champ.
- You have? - Yeah.
Here's the video.
Wow! I love sea-monster cases.
So, supposedly what we're looking at here is the humps of the creature as it's breaching the surface of the water.
And if we use the boat that you see there as reference.
This creature could be about 45 feet long.
I know a lot of people are saying that this could be rolling waves in a lake.
But I don't think that that's consistent with the rest of the water.
I completely disagree with you.
- Really? - I am seeing nothing but waves here.
If you look closely, you can see points where there's even whitecaps on the wave.
All that takes is a sandbar, maybe a reef.
.
Something underneath the water that's causing the water to be pushed up and create a larger wave at that one point.
I'm kind of with Austin on this because they're not undulating like a big serpent would.
I really want to do an investigation on Champ.
But I don't know if this video is the one to take us there.
I agree, and out of all the other videos that we saw today, I don't think that this is our strongest piece of evidence at all.
It's time.
Let's get into this.
Who wants what? I'd like to go and check out that Tavern Shapeshifter.
And find out what's causing it to be pulled out of a window.
The entire town of Penrith is considered to be paranormal.
And the General Wolfe Pub is no exception, and that's the case I want to go on.
I'm definitely in for "Tavern Shapeshifter.
" I've never seen anything move like that.
That Oregon Vortex, Ben.
.
I want to go on it.
That is insane.
Well, I'm with Austin.
If we've got an alleged energy vortex, I'm in.
I definitely think we should go to The Mystery Spot in Oregon.
We need to find out what's going on.
Okay.
You two want to come with me to Oregon? - Absolutely.
- Hands down.
I'm in.
Bill, Lanisha, and Devin, why don't you guys go to the General Wolfe Pub? - All right.
That sounds great.
- That's our plan.
Let's get to work.
I am finally gonna be taller than you.
You guys, I had no idea Gold Hill, Oregon, was this beautiful.
It's really pretty.
I'm really excited to see what the mysterious Oregon Vortex has in store for us.
You know, people flock here because of the unusual phenomena.
All right.
Looks like we're here.
- Hi.
You must be Elena.
- Hi.
Yeah.
- I'm Ben.
- Welcome.
So, Elena, we know this place was discovered a couple hundred years ago, and it had these mysterious qualities to it.
Can you give us a brief history of when it was discovered? This area was actually first known to the Native Americans.
When they originally rode their horses up the hill, they discovered that the horses wouldn't enter the area.
And that's been noticed in the general lack of wildlife up here.
Next was the miners that came through here.
John Lister opened this area to the public in 1930.
John Lister.
.
He was a geologist, a physicist.
What were some of the theories that he came up with? After many years of research, he ended up writing to Einstein.
And they corresponded and came up with the theory of mass change.
Saying you're actually compressing and expanding as you're wandering around inside the area, and there's actually a density shift.
.
Wow.
- As you're walking back and forth.
- Change at the molecular level? Yeah.
There's the same amount of you, but as you're walking around, you're actually becoming a little bit squished.
.
Or you're expanding back out and appearing to be larger because there's actually more space in between your molecules.
Wow.
What are some of the other phenomena that occur here at the vortex? A lot of people will notice sort of an ocean-motion sensation as they get up towards the house.
And, of course, things appearing to roll uphill.
Wow.
The most notable thing is definitely the height change.
Elena, it's killing me.
Can you take us to the location where the height change occurs? Yeah.
So, the height changes are theoretically occurring everywhere inside the area.
But we try to do them over level platforms so that we know what we're dealing with.
This is the actual location of the original video? Yes.
Okay.
So, you're telling me that, at a molecular level.
Your body actually changes right here? That's the theory, anyway.
I have a really important question.
How far along are you? I am going to be 38 weeks on Monday.
How do you feel about your baby being in the center of the vortex? I mean, if there's a molecular change going down right now.
.
My first one turned out fine.
I figure if both my kids end up taller than their father, who's six-four.
I'll blame it on the vortex.
But other than that, I've been doing great.
Well, Elena, thank you so much for your time and giving us information.
I'll leave you to your work.
- Okay.
- Thanks so much.
Wow.
Mysterious, indeed.
What do you guys say we start where they originally discovered the vortex.
.
With animals? What do you think? You want to go back to the basics.
.
To the beginning.
Yeah.
That's how they figured this place existed, right? - Okay.
- Let's get some horses.
Okay.
Giddy-up.
Let's do this.
Let's try it.
We're gonna attempt to ride horses through the vortex and see what happens.
Because we're interested to see if that element of the legend is just that.
.
A legend.
Well, this trail will lead you right down behind the mystery house.
Which is the epicenter of the vortex.
Maybe it won't be that they just refuse to walk in.
But maybe there'll just be some odd behavior, maybe some hesitation.
.
So, let's just really watch them and see how it goes.
Well, I'm gonna go head down the trail, and I'm gonna document it all on camera.
All right.
We're all saddled up.
All right.
Catch you in a bit.
Okay, guys.
I'm in position.
You guys ready to go? Yeah, we're in position.
Ready to go.
All right, guys.
Get ready to just head South on the trail.
Giddy-up.
Go.
Whoa.
We're gonna go back to the very beginning of the lore and attempt to ride horses into the vortex to see what happens.
We're interested to see if that element of the legend is just that.
.
A legend.
All right, guys.
Get ready to just head South on the trail.
In 3.
.
Giddy-up.
Go.
Whoa.
Whoa.
We're starting to slow down.
Okay, guys.
You're approaching it here.
They're just stopping.
Rachael.
Rachael, it's okay, babe.
Did she just stop? - Yeah, I'm not kidding around.
- She's turning around.
She wants out.
She wants out.
Okay.
That was really weird.
Yeah, it was.
You're leading.
She comes to this point, and she just does a 180.
It's really interesting because when we were coming down this path.
We were able to get them almost into a full gallop.
But then they really started to slow down as they were getting right here to this area.
You guys, I'm glad we started exactly where the legend of the vortex started.
But we still have three other pieces of video evidence we need to investigate.
Yeah.
Why don't we start with the height-change experiment? All right.
We'll go get these girls home, then.
All right.
We just found out our horses wanted to be nowhere near the possible boundaries of The Oregon Vortex.
This is really exciting because it's showing there actually could be something paranormal about this place.
Now we're gonna move on and test the actual video footage that brought us here, starting with the height-change phenomena.
Well, one of the most popular theories is this Ponzo theory.
It's an optical-illusion theory which says that this background behind us.
.
Is actually what's causing us to believe that the objects in the foreground are changing in size.
In reality, what we're dealing with are a bunch of lines that are not all parallel.
So, when they change position, perhaps that's causing the effect, making the people look like they're changing size.
What we're going to do is eliminate all those factors which might be causing an optical illusion.
We've got a huge canvas, black background we're gonna put up behind Jael and Austin.
I'm gonna be filming from the vantage point with a laser grid.
That'll give us some definite points to measure by.
To see, when they switch places, are they actually changing in size, or is it just the optical illusion caused by all of the different lines and things going on behind them? You guys ready for this? - Yes.
- Okay.
My eye level right now is about at the tip of Austin's nose.
Okay.
And, Austin, what about you? Mine is basically dead center on her forehead.
So, are you guys ready to switch? Yeah.
Height-change experiment in 3.
.
Switch.
- All right.
- Whoa! Holy crap! Okay.
So, now, like, my eye level is basically right.
.
Below Austin's lower lip.
My eye line was literally at the center of her forehead, and I'm looking over her head now.
- What's it look like over there? - You got to see this.
This is so weird.
Here's the original.
See? This is what I was telling you.
When you guys switch, I can physically see, especially with those dots, how much of a difference there was in the height change.
It literally looks like I grow like six inches.
I know this might sound crazy, and maybe it's in my head.
But when I was standing on the North side, where you're supposed to be shorter.
I actually felt a bit of pressure, like, right on my neck and right on my shoulders like right here.
- Really? - Yeah.
Well, we know it's not the Ponzo effect, because look it.
.
We blocked out the background.
We can't see anything, and the phenomena still occurred.
There's a couple things I want to test.
Will you guys help me out here? Sure.
I've got a digital inclinometer here.
Okay? So, it's zeroed out.
Guys, check this out.
It's 2.
1 degree slope.
Okay, we're talking 2 degrees, Ben.
I don't buy that a two degree slant would cause such a dramatic change when we look at the person moving.
I guess I'm leaning towards it because I actually felt some pressure on my shoulders and on my neck when I was standing there.
Well, fair enough.
I mean, some people would say that that mass change theory supports that.
I'm thinking, though, that, you know, for me, we've solved this.
And I think we should go now to the center of the vortex to the mystery house.
- Let's get cleaned up and go.
- All right.
Wow! - My goodness.
- Oh, my gosh.
Well, you know, they say it's actually inside the house where they start to feel.
.
Like, extreme sensations, you know, and disorientation.
- Right.
- Well, this house is considered to be one of the strongest parts of the entire vortex.
That's one of the reasons they actually gave it the name the mystery house.
What do you say we go check it out, huh? All right.
- Whoa! - Oh, my goodness.
You have got to be kidding me.
Whoa.
I actually feel kind of dizzy in here, to be honest with you.
Guys, I do, too.
So, let's talk about the two videos that were shot right in this very house.
The first is the one of the broom that appears to be standing on its own.
And they've tested this, and it's actually done so for hours at at time.
Then the second video that we're looking at is the one of the ball that appears to be rolling upward, which actually makes no sense.
No, it doesn't.
Let's get out of there and start unloading our stuff, guys.
Whew! I say we split up and we all go do our own experiments, and then we can reconvene and compare notes.
Guys, you mind if I take the broom experiment? Okay.
Well, then, I can take the experiment with the ball that's rolling upward.
While you guys are doing that, I'm gonna do a survey of the whole house.
I'm gonna try to map this whole thing out.
All right.
I'll go set up this camera.
I'm conducting a survey of the inside of the mystery house to see if there's any explanation to what people are experiencing.
We're using different levels.
We've got EMF meters.
We've even got radiation monitors to see if there's anything that's causing the sensations they're feeling here.
Right now we're in the mystery house, which is supposedly the center of the vortex.
And we're conducting an experiment that has to do with a ball that rolls upward.
Super weird.
What we're trying to figure out is if this has something to do with a magnetic pull or if it's just an optical illusion.
I officially have the broom they use here at the vortex standing on its own.
However, all we've tested is this broom.
So, to find out if there's actually something abnormal going on, I'm gonna test a couple other brooms that we brought and see what happens.
All right, you guys.
Let's check out the side-by-sides.
It feels nice to get out of that house.
Yes, it does.
So, check it out.
I was actually able to get a couple of the brooms to stand up on their own.
Wow.
That looks cool.
The straight brooms had a really tough time actually balancing, but the ones that are angled.
.
Are actually helped.
Since the floor's angled, they lean a little bit.
As it turns out, the leaning-broom phenomenon isn't really a mystery at all.
It's just a trick, and it completely depends on the type of broom and the angles of the bristles.
Okay.
Well, I had a very interesting experiment.
So, as you can see, I got the ball to roll upward.
- Just like the video.
- Nice.
- Right.
- Pretty cool, huh? So, here's what's really going on.
This is actually an optical illusion.
This plank is angled downward toward me.
So, the ball is actually rolling downhill, even though it looks like it's coming up.
Okay, so, your initial force is actually rolling the ball uphill.
And it just rolls right back down to you? Exactly.
- That's a really cool optical illusion.
- It is.
And it's probably all based on the fact that the house itself that you're standing in is on this angle of about 30 degrees, guys.
- Exactly.
Okay.
- When I measured this.
.
The floor is about 27, 30 degrees on a decline in some spots.
What happens when we walk in here.
.
Our visual perception of these angles that are very off gives us that sense of out-of-control dizziness, vertigo.
Well, I would say that that's definitely a plausible explanation.
So, it's pretty well documented that this house was actually completely upright at one point.
One of the theories is that the heightened gravitational pull of the vortex actually sucked this house into the ground.
I think our next experiment should test that vortex theory.
We could use one of the original experiments that Lister himself used.
Let's break out a pendulum.
If there are any anomalous magnetic forces here, we can test to see if the magnetic force would push or pull the pendulum off course.
Under normal circumstances, the pendulum should just begin to swing and then eventually take an elliptical pattern before stopping at a center point due to basic gravitational pull.
But if there are any anomalous magnetic energies here, it could take the pendulum off course.
I like that.
Yeah.
That should work.
All right.
Pendulum, it is.
- Alright.
- Let's pack up.
Yeah.
Let's go get ready.
Coming up on "Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files".
.
Swing away.
Can you show yourself? I'm seeing anomalous movement right above your head.
Oh, my God! We've pretty well determined that the videos associated with the house were nothing more than the result of an optical illusion.
But there's still this idea that that house is being sucked down by a very powerful vortex of magnetic field or gravity.
What we want to do is devise an experiment to test that.
We're gonna use a very powerful magnet called a Neodymium Magnet.
Now, this will be on a pendulum.
It will go back and forth.
Now, if a magnetic field is altering it in one area more than another, it should affect the magnet, and we'll be able to see it.
Okay, guys.
I'm gonna use this compass to align the laser grid.
- Okay.
- Guys, wasn't North this way? Yeah.
That's North.
Not according to the compass.
- What's it say? - Are you serious? Yeah, it's saying it's that way, like, the complete opposite direction.
What? That's really strange.
The compass was working just fine before when we packed up the gear.
Let me grab the other compass.
- Wow! Look at them.
- They're going opposite.
What's going on? When we packed up, this compass was functioning normally.
Yeah, it was.
Well, let's ditch this and use the one that's working.
- All right.
- Okay.
Here you go.
Now, we've put up the frame for the pendulum.
I've just attached the laser that Jael's prepared.
And Austin is just about done working on the pendulum, making it weighted and putting that magnet inside.
In a minute, we'll be ready to swing away.
Camera's rolling, guys.
Laser grid is oriented towards North.
- I think we're all ready to go.
- All right.
You want to do the honors? Absolutely.
- All right.
- All right.
Make sure it's not twisted or anything like that.
You ready? - Aah! - Okay.
Here we go.
Here we go.
- All right.
- In 3.
.
Swing away.
Lister would go around with a pendulum.
He was looking for differences in gravitational and magnetic pull.
So, we built our own, decided to kind of repeat what he did.
And if we set this thing in motion and it starts deviating, then maybe that would indicate there were differences in magnetic or gravitational pulls there.
So, I pulled the pendulum ball up, and I let it go.
Now, as most pendulums do, it swings for a while.
So, to spare you guys, I sped up the clip so you can see the complete results of what happened.
Check it out.
So, it starts out at North-South, and then it starts going counterclockwise.
- Whoa.
- Wow.
Whoa.
Oh, it's changing.
- It's going back.
- Oh, I see.
Yeah.
- It's not going full circle, - Wow.
Though, either.
It's staying within a couple degrees of angle.
So, yeah, it shouldn't be changing directions.
It should just start initially by swinging back and forth in a straight line and then eventually creating an elliptical pattern.
.
And that's it.
We started thinking.
.
"There's got to be something going on here.
" There were rumors that there are magnets buried around the location all over The Oregon Vortex.
So, we decided to sweep the area with a metal detector, and we got a pretty strong hit.
Here's where things get a little bit suspicious.
We got that hit with the metal detector, but the thing is that the owners and the staff over at The Oregon Vortex were absolutely adamant that we could not excavate in any part of the ground at all.
Do you think that they were just conserving the area, or.
.
- Or were they hiding something? - I don't know.
Whew.
All right, guys.
So, you know I have to ask, right? The Oregon Vortex.
.
Fact or Faked? Well, I think we found explanations for.
.
Pretty much every phenomena inside the house itself.
The pendulum was a little strange.
And the height change? Man, I don't know.
I see that there's an altitude change.
And I think that it is exaggerated when you put two people together.
But when you watch the video, it is quite remarkable.
And, you know, at the end of the day, we were able to find conclusions to a lot of the phenomena that was occurring there at The Oregon Vortex.
But I feel like there might be something to this mass change theory.
You know, at the end of the day, it's like showing up to an interactive magic show.
It's nothing but a bunch of optical illusions.
I agree.
I'm gonna have to go with faked all the way.
Optical illusion.
You know what, guys? Great job, seriously.
So, Bill, tell us about Penrith, England, and this tavern you guys went out to see.
Well, as you remember, we went to investigate that surveillance video of this shape shifting apparition that was caught on tape.
Guys, I'm excited to be here in Penrith, England.
It is so cool to be investigating a video that some people are saying is evidence of paranormal activity at the General Wolfe Pub.
This really is a fascinating piece of footage.
I mean, it's showing this cloud like formation that seems to hover in the middle of this tavern and then suddenly changes shape and escapes through a side window in the bar.
Well, guys, skeptics are saying that video was not paranormal at all.
They're saying it could be anything from a bug on a lens to car lights passing through a window to even an outright hoax.
All right.
Well, we're almost at the bar, where we'll meet with the manager of the pub, Andrew Bateman, and hear his firsthand account of the night the video was captured.
This is where the bar is located.
- This is a pedestrian walkway.
- Yeah.
I mean, so, if this is where the bar is located, this rules out the whole theory that it could be car headlights shining through the windows.
Let's go talk to Andrew.
- All right.
- Let's go meet him right now.
Andrew? Hey.
How you doing? Bill.
- Hi.
How we doing? Nice to meet you.
- Hi.
It's a really interesting video.
Can you show us which room this was recorded? It's just up this way.
- We'll follow you.
- After you.
Yeah.
And this is the room where they shot the footage.
Where's the camera? The camera is.
.
We've got one up there.
Now, it's kind of unusual that you have interior windows.
So, have there been renovations or changes to this building? This part of the building that we're actually in now didn't always belong to the pub.
Years ago, it was um.
.
The uh, town's only um.
.
Funeral parlor.
- Wow.
Okay.
- Wow.
Andrew, walk us through the night that you came upon this footage.
It was on there the 1st of September last year.
And we do a karaoke night on Wednesday, and I just wanted to check the numbers, what's the amount of people we had in.
So, when we flipped through the cameras, I was just about to turn it off, and I was looking down at the control panel.
And my mate.
.
My friend just said.
.
"Oh, what's that? What's that?" We just sat and looked at each other for about 5 minutes.
It was just totally freaky.
There's a lot of weird stuff goes on, mainly in the bit that's above here, really.
In the same space that was once a funeral parlor? - Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
- That's interesting.
Have you yourself heard anything.
.
Any noises, anything being moved on its own? Every now and again, there's the odd bump and creak.
You get a lot of really quick heat changes.
So, you get temperature changes.
You do get quite a bit of temperature changes, yeah.
Yeah.
Would you mind I hooked your surveillance cameras up to our monitors? No, just help yourself and just see what you come up with.
Well, we got a lot of work to do.
Thank you for all the information.
Andrew, thank you.
No problem.
Coming up on "Fact or Faked.
.
" - Fan! - ".
.
Paranormal files".
.
Fly out the window.
Can you show yourself? I'm seeing movement right above your head.
Oh, my God! Now that we've gotten Andrew's firsthand account of the night the Security cameras captured the apparition, we're gonna launch into a full investigation and try to replicate the original video.
You know, whenever we get these purported ghost videos that depict a phantom blur going right across the lens, skeptics immediately turn to the "bug on the lens" theory, so I think that's a logical place for us to start.
It could just be a case of forced perspective.
If the bug was close to the lens, the camera would have a hard time focusing on it.
And because of the close proximity, it would appear to be much larger in the room than it actually really is.
But what's really odd is the movement at the very end.
Maybe that is just the insect walking right off the lens.
To maintain position of the insects, I'm actually gonna be keeping them inside these petri dishes, and I'll hold it right up to the surveillance-camera lens.
And, hopefully, we can control where they appear, and then you can direct me if I need to move it or not.
- Sounds good.
- All right.
Let's get set up.
We're about to begin our "insect on the lens" experiment.
We have several different-size insects that we're gonna be holding up right to the lens to see if any of them create the same motion that we see in the original video.
- All right, guys.
Camera's all set up.
- All right.
Great.
We'll be next door, getting in position.
- All right, perfect.
- All right.
All right, let me.
.
You know what? - I'm gonna stand right up on this table.
- Okay.
All right, guys.
Hold up a couple different insects, and I'll let you know which one matches the best.
Okay.
Fly number 1.
Okay.
Fly number 1.
All right, Lanisha, here goes.
All right.
All right, Bill, can we try something a little smaller? Okay.
How's this one right here? That size looks pretty good.
Let's try that.
All right, we're recording.
Lower the insect into frame.
Hold it there for about 10 seconds, and on my cue, get it to exit.
Okay.
All right.
All right, exit in 3.
.
Whoa! - All right, take a look.
- Wow! Well, first of all, the wings match.
The shape and some of the transparency seems to match, but for me, that's where the similarity sort of ends.
In the original clip, this apparition changes shape.
And what we're looking at here doesn't really - change shape.
- And the exit does not look the same.
In this video, it almost kind of swoops with a tail.
It doesn't quite match.
You know what, guys? The biggest problem that I'm having with this test.
Is the fact that the body of the insect just appeared too dark and dense, and we're not seeing that in the original video.
Well, I have an idea of how we can match this a little bit better.
But it tests the hoax theory.
What if the apparition that we're seeing in the original video is some sort of sheer fabric? I mean, we can drape some sheer fabric and hang it with some mono filament lines.
And attach it to the ceiling with a control rig.
.
Have complete control over where it moves and how it moves.
We would be building our own sheer-fabric marionette.
- Let's get to work on that one.
- Okay.
Cool.
All right.
Let's take that beam, rig it to the ceiling.
And then we'll run the mono filament lines right out the window.
You know, guys, we got our apparition totally rigged up.
All right.
Ready, guys.
This is good to go.
We're recording.
All right, starting out of frame.
Perfect.
All right, Devin, go ahead and drop it down into frame halfway.
Perfect.
Now, can you get it to manipulate from left to right? - Right leg.
- Okay.
Left leg again.
- Left leg.
- Right leg.
Right leg.
Okay.
3.
.
Fly out the window.
That looks really good, Devin.
Let's do a side-by-side.
Oh! Look at that.
It does look ethereal.
I mean, it's got that degree of transparency that we're looking for.
And we have a nice amount of density to it, as well.
Which is what we see in the original video.
Now we're getting close to the end.
- Whoa! Out the window.
- Whoa! Look at that.
- It went out.
- That wasn't too bad! And you know what, guys? Our footage looks a little more mechanical versus what we're seeing in the original footage, which was a little more fluid.
Yeah, not to mention the fact that our apparition is very defined.
And in the original video, it seems much more out of focus.
You know, it was almost like, you know, you could see that it was fabric.
At least I could easily tell.
Well, maybe it's time to move on to something different.
All right.
Let's do it.
We came pretty close with the marionette experiment, but it still wasn't a perfect match.
So we've decided to move on to another natural explanation.
Okay.
Okay, got it.
All right.
You know, guys, the weather in the United Kingdom in, like, late August, September.
Is typically very dry and cool.
But in 2010, when the original video was recorded, it was unseasonably warm.
Yeah, the temperature was like 80 degrees out here, and, normally, it's in the high 50s.
Not to mention, a week prior, it rained like crazy.
Hot weather plus rain equals humidity.
Well, there is a vent here above the back booth where the apparition was seen in the original video.
Now, if the thermostat kicked the A-C on.
Then the temperature from the heat wave combined with the lingering humidity here in this bar.
.
It could have created a cloud of fog surrounding the vent.
We have an industrial humidifier and a propane heater.
I think if we get the temperature in here to about 80 degrees.
Which is the recorded temperature when the video was shot.
And then we bring the humidity to about 85%, we turn on the A-C, and I think we're gonna get some fog.
If these windows were open, then maybe a gust of wind could have passed through, changing the pressure between the two rooms here in this bar, thus drawing the fog right out.
So, what we'll do is we take this fan here, we turn it on, and it's gonna suck our ghostly apparition right out that window.
Now, hopefully, that will give us the illusion that we see in the original video.
Whoa! Yep.
Keep it going.
You're lit.
Wow.
You feel the heat? The temperature's climbing really fast.
We're good to go.
We got to clear the room for this equipment before we turn on the air conditioner.
Ready for this? - All right, guys.
- Okay.
- Let's do this.
- Okay, I'm now recording.
Lanisha, go ahead and hit the air-conditioning.
All right.
Air-conditioning on.
Okay.
Here it comes.
Oh, this is actually working pretty good.
- You got it? - I can see that fog.
Devin, on 3.
.
Fan! Oh! In February 2012, mysterious footage surfaced out of Cambodia, showing an odd black ribbon undulating in the night sky.
The video sparked a firestorm of supernatural speculation amongst paranormal enthusiasts.
Theories to its origin range from a fleet of tiny UFOs to some sort of shape-shifting entity.
But is this aerial anomaly Fact or Faked? The answer, coming up.
In 2012, a mysterious video surfaced from Cambodia showing an eerie black ribbon undulating through the night sky, leaving some to wonder if the dark entity could be alien or ghost in nature.
But is this alleged paranormal encounter Fact or Faked? Faked.
While the footage is, indeed, authentic, paranormal enthusiasts were crestfallen to learn that the mysterious dark entity was merely a large colony of bats venturing out for their nightly feed.
We want to re-create the same atmospheric conditions that were present on the night the original video was recorded.
We want 85% humidity and Then Lanisha is gonna turn on the air-conditioner.
The temperature change will result in a fog and mist that will then form down on top of the sofa.
On 3.
.
Fan! Oh! Look! Look! And I think we're good.
- Yep.
- It exited.
Well, let's do our side-by-side.
- There it is.
- Yep.
The position of the apparition in our video definitely matches what we're seeing in Andrew's footage.
It looks pretty good.
The first thing that I noticed is that the shape is a little bit different, because in the original video, you kind of had this triangular shape, and what we have here seems to be kind of like a big sphere, oblong shape.
And you know what, guys? Another problem that I'm having is with the way our apparition exits the window.
- It's dispersing like fog.
- Yep.
I don't think a gust of wind or any sort of pressure change could have resulted in pulling this mist out any quicker.
This is a very powerful fan.
It's a good theory, but in practice, it's just not giving us the results we need.
I think what we're looking at is the video that is still, to us, unknown of its origin.
So, it seems like the only way that we can really do it due diligence.
.
- Mm-hmm.
- Is to.
.
Do a nighttime investigation of the entire location.
And one thing we haven't investigated before is a place that was once a funeral home.
Yeah.
And that's what we have here.
All right.
Let's do it.
Our fabric experiment didn't yield the results we were looking for.
Honestly, none of our experiments did.
But we have to consider that Andrew's video could be paranormal, so we're gonna go and do our own night investigation and see if we can find anything ourselves.
All right, guys.
Cameras are all set up.
- Perfect.
- Great.
All right, we've got five cameras set up this evening.
We've got an infrared camera set up out front.
I have an infrared camera pointed back towards the bar.
Got another infrared camera in the room that used to be a courtyard, and it's monitoring the window where we saw the apparition flee.
- All right.
- We have the full-spectrum camera.
We've enabled motion detection on it, and that is monitoring the wall and the lounge where we saw the apparition, and then we have the original infrared camera that's still recording.
You know what? Think about this apparition for a moment.
I mean, it almost looks like plasma.
And, historically, there have been reports of apparitions that have taken that shape-shifting form that plasma naturally does do.
So, I'm gonna be using an ion detector so I can directly detect any ion fields that may not have manifested into plasma.
Well, in the window where we saw the apparition pass through, I placed a magnetic anomaly detector.
It'll help us monitor that space and see if there's any changes in magnetic fields.
And Andrew has reported anomalous fluctuations in temperatures, so I'll be sweeping the bar with my electromagnetic field detector, which also measures temperature.
And it's in the room where the apparition appeared that I'm gonna be conducting an EVP session.
Devin, you're gonna be here monitoring.
Lanisha, you and I are gonna be sweeping the building.
Okay, here's a walkie.
- Okay.
- There you go.
- Thank you.
- You guys ready to go green? - Yeah.
Let's hit those lights.
- All right.
Look at this spot right here already.
I'm picking up, like, an ionized field.
It has nothing to do with any of the electrical appliances here, like the TV and the lamp.
This thing is not set to dip to A.
C.
or DC.
This is crazy.
Hey, Bill, did you see that? We just got a crazy drop in temperature.
You know, I've never seen this thing drop down to that low of a temperature.
The ion detector's going crazy here, too.
Devin, we're getting really fast temperature drops, and the ion detector is picking up a lot of activity right now.
Look at this thing.
Devin, with this ion field that I seem to be detecting, this could play into the theory that this apparition is manifesting as a form of plasma.
I'm gonna have an EVP session on the couch, where the apparition seemed to hover before it went out the window.
Copy that.
I won't break radio silence unless I absolutely need to.
Okay, I'm gonna continue sweeping the rest of the bar.
Okay.
If there's anybody that can communicate with us, please do so at this time.
We'd like to be able to see you.
We'd like to be able to feel you.
We all want to hear you right now.
Lanisha's getting some really odd readings on her temperature gauge, and Bill was getting readings on his ion sensor.
It doesn't make any sense.
Can you show yourself? Bill, I'm seeing movement right above your head.
Bill's doing an EVP session.
Lanisha's getting some really odd readings on her temperature gauge, and Bill was getting readings on his ion sensor.
It doesn't make any sense.
Can you show yourself? I'm seeing anomalous movement right above your head.
Right now? Right here? Right above your head, two little motion boxes appeared, and they just hung there.
Devin for Lanisha.
Can you go take some photos of Bill's location? I'm on my way.
We're picking up activity on the ion detector right now.
It's like an ionized field.
Devin for Bill.
The magnetic anomaly detector in the window just went off.
What?! Oh, my God.
So, while Bill was doing his EVP session, something was being tracked above him on the full-spectrum camera, and we couldn't see anything there.
- Yep.
- Take a look.
- Ooh.
- I got to see this.
- Whoa! - There's no light source or anything.
Oh, my.
At the same exact time, the magnetic anomaly detector just went off.
I mean, you know, looked at individually, you could try to explain away some of the readings that we're getting with our gear, but altogether, everything happening at the same time, that's pretty significant.
Our night investigation was pretty strange.
But I wasn't very pleased with all of our experiments.
I mean, we came closest with the "bug on the lens" scenario.
But it just wasn't a slam dunk.
So I decided to dig a little deeper and see if I could analyze this footage.
And take a look at what I found.
All right.
So, let's take a look at what happens when we just straight-up invert the video.
- This gives away a lot.
- Wow.
You can clearly see a defined body and two appendages, or what I think are wings.
I think this clarified footage really tells the story.
The General Wolfe Pub may, in fact, be haunted.
But this original video is not proof of that.
Right.
This.
.
- Really looks like an insect to me.
- Yep.
So with the inverted image I'd say this is a bug.
Sounds like that's the consensus.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
But the night investigation you did.
.
I don't think I would say this place is not paranormaly active.
So awesome job.
Thanks Ben.
