Good Behavior (2016) s02e09 Episode Script

And I Am a Violent Criminal

1 JAVIER: Look at your text.
- I bought you a house.
- Are you serious? - It's perfect.
- Perfect for what? A happy little family? I don't have a family.
I know my father didn't hire you to kill me because you killed him.
And David.
And Silk.
[CHUCKLES.]
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
- Teo? - Teo's locked in a room downstairs.
- Letty! - Dave! No one comes in unless they're ready to party.
No, no, no.
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
[INSECTS CHIRPING.]
[OWL HOOTING.]
[SHOVEL SCRAPES.]
[DIRT SIFTING.]
[VEHICLE APPROACHING.]
[EXHALES SHARPLY.]
[SIGHS.]
Oh, fuck.
[BIRD CAWING.]
Letty! Jesus.
Oh.
Letty.
Come on.
Come on, Letty.
Come on.
[INHALES SHARPLY.]
You're okay.
I'm here.
You got my text.
I did.
What happened? I don't know.
Hard time forgiving Even harder forgetting Before you do something You might regret, friend Bricks are caving in Oh, how sweet this sin I left you the keys You won't let me in Hard time forgiving Even harder forgetting Before you do something I hadn't even named her yet.
You can still pick a name.
No.
That would just make me sadder.
You never said anything to him that he could've thought was an invitation to give it a whirl? I mean, I told him it was awesome, but he definitely didn't ask for permission.
But I did tell him it was awesome.
How 'bout Irene? What? I could name her Irene.
Nah.
Well, what then? How 'bout Jacob? But Jacob's Jacob.
Yeah, well, he and it are about to have a lot in common.
[HIGH-PITCHED RINGING.]
[PANTING.]
Almost there.
[RINGING FADES OUT.]
I loved those shoes.
You love shoes.
I really loved those.
Did you find the other one? No.
Get rid of it.
You sure? One shoe is the same as no shoe.
[BIRDS CALLING.]
[ASCENDING FOOTSTEPS.]
[SIGHS.]
[SIGHS.]
- [SIGHS.]
- [CUPBOARD DOOR CLOSES.]
Where are we going? Taking you to a hospital.
No.
No hospital.
- Yes, hospital.
- No hospital.
You need to see a doctor, Letty.
Doctors don't help anyone.
Well, that's obviously not true.
Look, if you take me to a hospital, I have to talk to a doctor.
And then the doctor will call the drug counselor and then I have to talk to the drug counselor.
You're delirious and sick, and when people are delirious and sick, they need medical attention.
So I'm taking you to a hospital.
If you take me to the hospital, there are records.
Courts use those against you.
But miraculously, you don't have any upcoming court dates, so I think it'll be fine.
I don't wanna make a big thing of this.
I just wanna sleep.
Please.
[HIGH-PITCHED RINGING.]
[DOORBELL RINGS.]
Hi, my name is Joanna, and this is Kendra, and we're selling cookies.
If you buy some, the money goes to help Girl Scouts.
Okay.
Uh I'll take a box of the lemon ones.
Really? Sure.
Thanks! WOMAN: There's a good chance she'll be all right once the fluids get in her system.
Shit.
That's a good sign.
She woke up just from the needle.
Hi.
She's just giving you an I.
V.
, standard fluids.
Just think of it like the royal treatment for a hangover.
Where are we? In a parking lot.
Where'd you come from? I work in the free clinic down the road.
Hey, you said no hospitals.
Okay.
[SIGHS.]
You're all set.
Never thought to use that hook for an I.
V.
before.
No? Well, I've never used mine for dry cleaning before.
But I mostly wear scrub, so CHRISTIAN: Thank you.
No annoying drug counselors, no records.
You're the best.
Go back to sleep.
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
Papa paid for me to have my own restaurant so he could use it to run drugs.
Well, it's just a theory.
Was Teo ever in your office? I don't think so.
- Kitchen? - No.
Maybe I found him a couple of times getting celery from the walk-in fridge.
Celery? He likes celery.
Your flight is in four hours.
You should go.
Is everything good here? The locks are changed.
I put a sign on the door.
All the deliveries have been canceled.
What did you tell the staff? That I'm taking the girls on vacation.
It's not really a lie.
You think the girls will like Argentina? Of course they will.
Selfies in Buenos Aires.
Papa was a violent criminal.
And then I start sleeping with Teo, who turns out to be a violent criminal.
And I am a violent criminal.
I am.
It makes sense.
I will find Teo and I will take care of it.
Do what you do.
[WIND BLOWING.]
[EXHALES SLOWLY.]
[SIGHS.]
CHRISTIAN: [DISTORTED VOICE.]
I brought her here because there's nowhere else to take care.
- [ESTELLE SPEAKS INDISTINCTLY.]
- You're her mother.
She's the sick one.
I'm serious.
I would take her to a hospital.
- She's sick! - That's where she belongs.
Look, I think she needs you for a second.
Can you just see her? Can you talk to her? - Oh, shit.
- CHRISTIAN: Please? ESTELLE: Doesn't matter.
This is my house.
It's not a treatment facility.
I know.
But she needs a place to stay.
And I'd rather she not see her son while she's crawling out of whatever K-hole she fell into.
It's okay.
Sorry.
Why is it always the same thing? I don't know.
Is Jacob here? No, he's at school.
And I'd like you to leave before he comes home.
I know, I know.
We'll leave.
I'm sorry.
He didn't know not to bring me here.
- Where's she gonna go? - [SIGHS.]
Christian.
Wait here a minute, okay? [DOOR CREAKS.]
[DOOR CLOSES.]
I'm right here.
I know.
I get it now.
You get what? I mean, if that's your mother [VOICE BREAKING.]
I'm 34.
[DOOR OPENS.]
I was gonna take 'em to the Goodwill anyway.
Thank you.
I wish I could give you something that would save you from yourself.
You'll have to settle for the shoes.
Shoes are good.
[INHALES DEEPLY.]
[MAN SHOUTS IN DISTANCE.]
Why don't you get somethin' to eat? - [MAN SPEAKS INDISTINCTLY.]
- Here.
[DOORBELL CHIMES.]
[LINE RINGS.]
Are you okay? It's not Letty.
It's Christian.
- Is she okay? - Yeah, she's okay.
Look, I only have a minute so I can't get into any details, but she went way off the deep end.
She blacked out in the middle of the goddamn woods.
Oh, Jesus.
Yeah.
I'd take her home with me to stay, but I think Rhonda might be the worst person in the universe to be around when you're recovering from a bender.
Does Letty know you're calling me? No.
She didn't want me to.
I'll text you an address.
Thank you.
Oh, wait! Wait! Wait, d-don't text it back to this phone.
This is Letty's phone.
Yeah, I know.
Text me from your phone when we hang up.
- What's the number? I - You just called me.
My number is in Letty's phone.
Right.
How close are you to Savannah? Uh probably three hours-ish? - Okay.
- Okay.
[MUTTERING.]
[DOORBELL CHIMES.]
[TOUCHSCREEN CLICKING.]
[MESSAGE SENT SOUND.]
[CELLPHONE CHIMES.]
- You didn't get anything.
- [CAR DOOR CLOSES.]
Nothing looked good.
[SIGHS.]
Go back to sleep.
We've got a few hours before we get back to your friend's house.
- I need clothes.
- [PUMP LATCH CLICKS.]
Here's $100.
- Thanks.
- I'll come with you.
No.
Just wait here.
I'm good.
[SIGHS.]
If you see me comin' Oh, wait.
You might wanna put something over your, uh - Oh.
- Here.
I'm good.
I got it, I got it.
Too long out of sight Feeding on envy, always thirsty for more Ta-da.
Maybe open the door I want a little more Hey! Ooh! Hey! Ooh! Hey! Ooh! I'll have a pepperoni one.
Ooh! Please.
Can you feel the hunger burning inside? Can't take it any longer, give up the fight When everything is fallin through cracks in the floor If you see me comin' - [DOORBELL CHIMES.]
- Open the door I want a little more Hey! Ooh! - Hey! - Take a little more Ooh! - Hey! - Get a little more Ooh! - Hey! - I want a little more Ooh! [DOORBELL CHIMES.]
[CAR DOOR CLOSES.]
- [SIGHS.]
- All you got was a suitcase? No.
I got clothes.
They're in the suitcase.
You'd be surprised what you can get for $100.
Can I have my money back? I got a pretzel and cigarettes.
Okay.
[SEAT BELTS CLICK.]
[SIGHS.]
[EXHALES SHARPLY.]
[THUD.]
- [BACK DOOR OPENS.]
- MAN: Hello? - Anybody here? Ava? - [CART WHEELS RATTLE.]
- What the hell? - Just put it in the fridge.
What are we gonna do? Wheel it back? [MAN GRUNTS.]
[GROANS.]
[BOX THUDS.]
[BOX THUDS.]
[BACK DOOR CLOSES.]
[BOX LID THUDS.]
[EXHALES.]
[SCOFFS.]
[TIRES SCREECH, ENGINE TURNS OFF.]
Where are we? - Christian - I know, but there weren't a whole lot of other options.
You said you were taking me to my friend's house.
Well, I lied.
Your friends left you alone in the woods.
- I'm your friend.
- So just take - I brought you out of the woods.
- Take me to a motel.
If you were a good friend, a motel.
Now.
What happened between you and Javi? It doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter.
It does matter.
Why don't you wanna be here? I do wanna be here.
But I can't be.
What does that even mean? Is it seriously that difficult for you to tell someone you're sorry? Only when I mean it.
Letty all you have to do is walk in that door.
[CRYING.]
Just start with that.
[EXHALES DEEPLY.]
[PEN SCRATCHING.]
[ENGINE STARTS.]
[DOORBELL RINGS.]
[DOORBELL RINGS.]
[FILE CLATTERS.]
[MAIAH MANSER'S "SECOND SKIN PLAYING.]
I I know what I've done And it stings, baby, stings, baby, stings Like the shot of a gun And I I hurt you again You should run, you should run, you should run So you won't feel the pain [MACHINE WHIRRING, BEEPING.]
[WHIRRING, BEEPING STOP.]
Burn, burn Burn, burn Burn, burn [DOOR CLOSES.]
[DOOR CREAKS.]
[LOCK RATTLES.]
[EXHALES SHARPLY.]
[ASCENDING FOOTSTEPS.]
- [THUD.]
- [GASPS.]
Hi.
How did you get in? You don't have a security system.
They're coming to install one tomorrow.
It'll be harder to break in after that.
So This is the house.
It is the house.
You look bad.
I feel bad.
Good.
I didn't mean those things that I said.
I mean I meant them, but I was also on drugs, so Are you going to move, or are you just going to stay there on the floor? Depends if you want me to stay or go.
You need a shower.
Standing on the platform Watching you go It's like no other pain I've ever known To love someone so much To have no control You said, "I wanna see the world" And I said, "Go" But I think I'm lost without you I think I'm lost without you Why is there a gun in here? I need it to kill Teo.
Standing on the platform You didn't already do that? Watching you go It's a long story.
You said, "I wanna see the world" And I said "Go" [SHOWER CONTINUES RUNNING.]
So he just blew everyone's head off because he wanted the family drug business.
And he killed Silk because Silk took Ava away.
- So he's crazy.
- Yep.
[CLOSES COMPARTMENT.]
Why were you friends with him? Why am I friends with you? [ESPRESSO MAKER WHIRRING.]
Why would he wanna kill you? Kept him from Ava, too, so revenge, I guess.
I don't know.
Don't you know where he is? No.
But I know where he will be at 3:00.
Where? I left a note in place of his cocaine.
I said if he wanted it back, he could meet me at a diner called Rooster's.
3:00.
So he knows I'm not gonna kill him.
You're not gonna kill him? Oh, I am going to kill him.
How are you gonna kill him in public? Oh.
Heart attack.
It is the best way.
[SLURPS.]
- [CUP THUDS.]
- Look at me.
- [SIGHS.]
- [CUP THUDS.]
There is a chance Teo kills me before I kill him.
- No, you're gonna kill him.
- Well, that is the plan, but just in case There is no just in case.
Just in case, I wanted you to have a home, somewhere where you can be happy.
Somewhere permanent.
Somewhere permanent that isn't prison, where Jacob's room is always Jacob's room.
Somewhere you can just live in peace.
That's why the house is in your name.
What? It's yours.
It's your house.
What happens if you don't die? Well, maybe you'll let me live here with you.
[WHISPERS.]
I'm sorry.
It wasn't me.
Dude, your shoes are muddy.
I didn't do it.
Come on, dude.
I saw you with the keys.
Maybe you're just confused.
[SIGHS.]
No, he's not confused.
- I'm not confused! - I didn't do it.
Give us a minute.
[WHISPERS.]
I'm not confused.
You know, Rob just got that mower.
He worked really hard to get it.
When your mom was 11, I walked into my bedroom and I caught her digging around in my purse.
I caught her with something in her hand, and so I asked her what she was doin'.
And you know what she said? She said she wasn't doing anything.
She was just looking for a tampon.
Wait, do you know what a tampon is? Yes.
Okay.
So that's what she said she was doin', just looking for a tampon.
Only thing is, your mother still hadn't even gotten her period yet, and the thing that she had in her hand wasn't a tampon.
It was a $20 bill.
Do you get my point here? I know you think you can just lie and get away with the bad thing you did.
And maybe sometimes you can.
But not this time, kiddo.
I didn't do it.
[EXHALES SHAKILY.]
I have cookies.
How did you know I was thinking about food? - What kind of cookies? - Girl Scout cookies.
Ah.
Thin Mints.
Awesome.
They're the lemon kind.
The lemon ones.
I don't I don't know what they're called.
You have Girl Scout cookies and you didn't get Thin Mints? I like the lemon ones.
[SIGHS.]
What else do you have? - Nothing.
- Really? I haven't had time to go grocery shopping.
But you had time to buy that espresso machine.
[CLIP CLICKS.]
You should try the cookies.
[LAUGHS.]
I will get more food on the way home.
- I'll just order takeout.
- No.
You will not do that.
While I'm gone, you will not answer the door or do anything.
[UNZIPS BAG.]
This is loaded.
I am leaving it here just in case.
Why don't I just go with you? Because until I deal with Teo, I am a walking target.
Just stay here.
Look, Teo's a problem until he's not.
And there's only one thing I can do about that.
I'll be back soon.
I hope so.
I am going to kill Teo, and I will come back.
- With food.
- [CHUCKLES.]
[EXHALES SLOWLY.]
[CELLPHONE VIBRATING.]
[VIBRATING STOPS.]
Hi.
You get to wherever you were goin'? I did.
Are you safe? Yeah.
I'm safe.
Good.
[INHALES DEEPLY.]
I gotta ask you somethin'.
Okay.
What? I didn't do so well with you as a kid.
Do we really need to get into all that? No, no.
I'm not beating myself up.
I'm just thinkin'.
When you were a kid and you were being an asshole, I thought punishing you was the right thing to do.
But now I'm realizing maybe it wasn't, because [SIGHS.]
Because I mess everything up.
Right.
No offense.
Now the way Jacob's acting, he's reminding me of you, which is sometimes a great thing, but He's right now, he's reminding me of the way you were when things started going wrong.
Okay.
I guess I'm asking, what was it that I missed with you? It was never about you.
- Yes, it was.
- No.
[SIGHS.]
Mom Jacob isn't the same as me.
Rules made me feel suffocated.
They always have.
I was gonna explode and spill into this world the way I did no matter how you punished me.
But Jacob likes structure.
He likes rules.
If you give him freedom, he wants to know the rules for freedom.
That's true.
Sometimes, he makes up extra rules for games when he thinks there aren't enough.
I know.
He's good.
He's a good kid.
I wasn't, but he is.
You were good sometimes.
Sometimes.
Thanks.
You're welcome.
I'm gonna go make dinner now.
Okay.
[ENGINE TURNS OFF, SEAT BELT UNBUCKLES.]
- [DOOR BELL JINGLES.]
- [INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS.]
[TICKING.]
[TOUCHSCREEN CLICKING.]
[MESSAGE SENT SOUND.]
[INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS.]
[DOORBELL JINGLES.]
[DOOR CLOSES.]
[DOROTHY'S "SHELTER" PLAYING.]
I'm a hurricane I'm a freight train Ain't the right way But it's the only way I know So when my bones come tumblin' in I did it to myself Will you still let me in? Will you give me shelter Will you give me shelter Will you give me shelter From myself? [CLEARS THROAT.]
[CUP THUDS.]
You don't have any bottled water? [WATER CONTINUES RUNNING.]
It's important to keep bottled water in the house.
In case of emergencies.
Usually Javier is prepared for emergencies.
How'd you get in? The front door.
It was unlocked.
The house is great.
Last time I was here, I didn't really get to appreciate it.
Javier is waiting for you.
You're supposed to be meeting him.
I know.
I thought about doing that.
But then I said to myself, "Wait, why would you go meet Javier when you can just go to his house when you know he's not there, get your stuff back, and then kill him when he comes home?" That just made a lot more sense to me.
Of course, I didn't know you were here, but that's okay.
You can only help.
No, I can't.
And your stuff isn't here.
There's nothing here, as you can see.
I'm gonna go get my shirt.
Don't do that.
You look like you've just been fucked.
It's nice.
I have to be honest.
I was surprised when Javier told me he had a girlfriend.
Why? Mm.
Not really sure.
Just surprised me.
Well, you don't really know Javier.
Maybe you don't really know Javier.
Oh, I know him.
Are you a Gemini? Astrology is bullshit.
But are you? I'm gonna go over there and get my shirt.
Okay.
He told me what you did, you know.
Have a seat.
Right there, on the floor.
[INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS.]
WOMAN: Want me to call? Did you ever hear that story about the sailors who got lost at sea? No.
[CELLPHONE VIBRATES.]
[SNAPS FINGERS.]
Unlock it.
[TOUCHSCREEN CLICKING.]
Javier would like you to know that I did not show up to the diner.
- "Just come back.
" - [TOUCHSCREEN CLICKING.]
- Send.
- [MESSAGE SENT SOUND.]
The captain of the boat was rich.
He didn't know how to sail, never had to learn.
But because he was greedy, he got tired of paying skilled sailors.
So instead, he hired a group of peasants.
They didn't know how to sail, but they were willing to work for next to nothing.
Well, the peasants got lost at sea.
And eventually, they ran out of food.
Soon, it became obvious that if they were going to survive, they would have to cannibalize someone on board.
Uh-huh.
[CELLPHONE VIBRATES.]
Huh.
Speaking of hunger Javier wants to know what you'd like him to bring you to eat.
We can't just ignore that text.
He'll wonder why.
Um Just a mixed green salad.
"Mixed greens salad.
" - Send.
- [MESSAGE SENT SOUND.]
So they killed the Captain.
He was the fattest among them, so he could feed the most people.
Even if he wasn't the fattest, they still would've killed him first.
He wasn't one of them.
That's right.
[CELLPHONE VIBRATES.]
[INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS.]
[ENGINE REVS.]
[TIRES PEAL, HORN HONKS.]
They were in the ocean.
Why couldn't they have just eaten fish? Are you even listening? They had no skills.
Fishing is a skill.
[CELLPHONE VIBRATING.]
So once they'd eaten the Captain, they knew they'd get hungry again, but no one wanted to kill one of their own.
Well, they could've just tried fishing.
They didn't need to because that night, while everyone slept, one of the peasants was killed.
The group ate him.
And a few nights later, another peasant was killed, and they ate him, too.
[CELLPHONE VIBRATING.]
So they cannibalized a whole new person every day.
Do we even know how much meat that is? People need to eat.
So this went on and on until finally, there were just two peasants left The guy who was killing everyone and the other guy.
And the only way for the innocent man to survive is to become a killer himself.
That's me.
I'm the last man on the boat.
[LINE RINGING.]
- [CELLPHONE VIBRATING.]
- [INHALES SHAKILY.]
Aah! [GUNSHOTS.]
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
MAN: Hello? ExtraSafe Security? The door was op No, no, no! [GUNSHOT.]
[HIGH-PITCHED RINGING.]
[BODY THUDS.]
[HIGH-PITCHED RINGING CONTINUES.]
No.
[GASPING.]
No.
No.
Oh, my God.
No, I'm sorry.
You have to be okay.
[LOCK CLICKS.]
[GIRL SCOUTS SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY.]
GIRL: I know.
[SPEAKS INDISTINCTLY.]
- [DOORBELL RINGS.]
- No.
GIRL SCOUTS: Hello? [VOICES ECHO.]
[DOORBELL RINGS.]
[KNOCKING ON DOOR.]
GIRL: Answer the door and buy all our cookies, you rich idiots.
[DOORBELL RINGS.]
[TIRES SCREECH.]
Hey, girls, I already bought some.
Thank you.
[TIRES SCREECH.]
