He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983) s01e18 Episode Script

The Dragon's Gift

1 [dramatic music.]
I am Adam, Prince of Eternia and defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull.
This is Cringer, my fearless friend.
Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said, "By the power of Grayskull!" [chorus.]
He-Man I have the power! [roaring.]
[He-Man.]
Cringer became the mighty Battle Cat, and I became He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe.
Only three others share this secret: our friends the Sorceress, Man-At-Arms, and Orko.
Together we defend Castle Grayskull from the evil forces of Skeletor.
[cackling.]
[brooding music.]
[upbeat music.]
Where's Prince Adam? Well, I'm sure he'll be here, Your Majesty.
He's been very busy lately.
Um, government problems.
I wouldn't call Lady Amanda a government problem.
Hush, child.
Cringer, will you come on? We'll be late.
Oh.
You go on ahead, Adam.
I'm much too tired.
Oh? Too tired for a royal fish fry? Fish fry? [lively music.]
Oh, no.
Why must that son of mine always be late? Now, now, dear.
I'm sure he'll be here any [crashing.]
[chuckling.]
Your Majesty, the prince.
Cringer, are you all right? Adam! Uh, father, I'm sorry.
I Spare me the story.
Just take your place.
Yes, sir.
A fabulous entrance, Adam.
Now that we're all here, let's begin.
Ambassador Therin of the Kingdom of Eastfen with a gift for His Majesty.
[dramatic music.]
What happened to Ambassador Vorn? Well, I don't know.
But there's something familiar about this Therin, something I can't quite put my finger on.
Your Majesty.
The loyal subjects of Eastfen wish you to have this humble gift made by the finest craftsmen in our land.
Why, it'sit's magnificent.
Uh, would Your Majesty care to examine it a bit closer? [Randor.]
By all means, bring it here.
[Man-At-Arms.]
That sword! Skeletor! Your Majesty, don't touch that! [dramatic music.]
Father! Skeletor.
Come on, Cat.
Let's find ourselves a quiet spot.
Oh.
[Skeletor.]
The Weird of Crystal was meant for you, Randor.
Now I'll have to find another way to claim the throne of Eternia.
But at least Man-At-Arms won't be a problem anymore.
You villain! Cringer, stop.
Well, I will as soon as I'm far enough away.
By the power of Grayskull! [chorus.]
He-Man He-Man He can't reach me here.
I have the power! [roaring.]
[chorus.]
He-Man [suspenseful music.]
Guards, take him! [warbling tone.]
[Skeletor.]
And now for you.
[roaring.]
Let her go, bonehead.
What? Nice move, Teela.
I'm not fool enough to fight you here, He-Man, but I'll leave you that pretty statue to remember me by.
[cackling.]
He got away.
- He got away! - We'll get him, Teela.
But first, we've got to find a way to reverse the spell on your father.
The Sorceress, she must know a way.
My thoughts exactly, Your Majesty.
We'll take Man-At-Arms to Castle Grayskull immediately.
[shimmering tone.]
Why doesn't she hurry? Be patient, Teela.
We all want Man-At-Arms back, but linking with the Window of Knowledge takes time.
The answer.
Give us the answer! I have no answer, Teela.
The Weird of Crystal is an ancient magic from a time before Castle Grayskull ever stood.
Its reversal is beyond my power.
Thenthen my father is doomed? Courage, Teela.
If Skeletor learned the spell, he must know how to undo it.
Not necessarily.
But there is one who might know the secret Granamyr, oldest and wisest of the Dragons of Darksmoke.
Then tell us where to find this dragon.
I can't.
[Teela.]
You'd leave my father like this for all eternity? - How could you? - Teela.
She is upset, He-Man, and rightly so.
I wish I could help, but long ago a pact was made between the great dragons and this castle.
I promised I would not reveal their whereabouts to anyone, and to break that promise would bring all their terrible fury down on Eternia.
There must be some way.
Where magic fails, human knowledge may succeed.
I can start you on your journey, and, Teela, I will guard your father until your return.
Thank you.
I'm sorry for what I said.
I know, Teela.
Now go, and good luck.
[soft music.]
He-man, we're in the Royal Library.
[He-Man.]
Human knowledge, books.
That's what the Sorceress meant.
The old legends will give us the clue.
Let's start reading.
Teela, I just read that ice trolls and dragons are friends.
It's worth checking.
Let's see.
The Ice Mountains.
That's where we'll find Granamyr.
We'll take the Raider across the Dark Mountains - then into the ice country.
- Let's go! [foreboding music.]
[winds whooshing.]
Enjoying the ride, Cat? [growling.]
He-Man, that's it! [dramatic music.]
A protective field! The Raider's out of control! [strained.]
I got to turn her.
You did it, He-Man! We've still got problems.
Coming in too fast.
Brace yourselves! [thudding.]
[chorus.]
He-Man It looks like we'll have to meet this dragon on foot.
[speaking troll talk.]
[grunting.]
[rumbling.]
Avalanche! Go, Cat! Trouble, He-Man.
We're on a cliff! [dramatic music.]
We don't have much of a choice.
[Battle Cat.]
I know! [both speaking troll talk.]
We should be getting close to Darksmoke soon.
Ah, strange smell here.
[chorus.]
He-Man It's an Ice Hacker! [roaring.]
[growling.]
[winces.]
[grunts.]
[roaring.]
[chorus.]
He-Man [growling.]
[chorus.]
He-Man [ominous music.]
Ugh, we made it.
Good.
I'm frozen stiff.
I'm sure Granamyr will have a warm fire waiting for us.
[shouting in troll talk.]
Trolls.
Watch yourself! Do you speak the tongue of Eternia? Troll talk is tongue of Eternia, but I talk your speech too.
We want to see Granamyr.
Men don't see Granamyr.
Only trolls see Granamyr.
[shouts in troll talk.]
We've got to make that bridge.
Hmm, I think I see a way to put these trolls on ice.
Better move before they dig themselves out.
[dramatic music.]
I can't believe how warm it is here.
It must be the dragon's fire pit.
[grunting.]
The scent of dragon is strong, He-Man.
I guess we should announce ourselves.
Granamyr! [rumbling.]
[Granamyr roaring.]
I am He-Man, great dragon, and I am here to ask your aid.
He-Man? I have heard your name whispered on the winds of legend.
In that case Silence.
I did not say I respected the name, only that I had heard it.
Dragons pay little attention to the lives of legend.
Granamyr, please, you've got to help us.
And who is this little girl who presumes to speak without my permission? I am Teela, captain of the royal guard, and I will speak as I please.
We shall see how your tongue wags when my magic sends you to the Realm of Demons.
We don't want to fight you, but we will if that's what it takes to make you listen.
Granamyr does not fight humans.
Granamyr wins.
He-Man.
[grunting.]
[strained.]
I can't break loose.
Enough.
You have courage, something I have seen in very few of your race.
I will listen to what you have to say.
My friend Man-At-Arms has been turned into a crystal statue by evil magic.
I'm told you might know how to undo the spell.
Might? Am I not the wisest creature on all Eternia? Do I not know magics that were forgotten before humankind ever walked this world? Then you can reverse the magic? Of course I can.
It's poor magic at best, but I see no reason to trouble myself over a single human.
It has been a thousand years since I last spoke with humans.
I found them vain, greedy, warlike, untruthful, and quite ugly.
They barged into my home.
They begged for my help, and when I gave it, they never appreciated it.
No, thanks.
Not even a gift.
You seem no different.
If a gift would help convince you, name it.
There is something.
[Teela.]
Anything.
In the center of the Forgotten Forest stands Skytree, the oldest tree on Eternia and the only thing in all the world older than me.
Chop it down and bring it to me as a gift so I can watch it burn in my fire pit.
Agreed? You'll save Man-At-Arms? I shall consider it.
Agreed.
When you wish to return here, speak my name.
And remember you have given your word to a dragon.
Fail to bring me my gift, and I will send you to the Realm of Demons forever.
[dramatic music.]
The Forgotten Forest.
Why, it's beautiful.
But where's Skytree? [Tullamore.]
And why would you be looking for Skytree? Show yourself.
We won't harm you.
[Tullamore.]
Show myself I will.
And as for harming me, well [shimmering tone.]
let's just say it's a bad idea.
[roaring.]
Keep hold of that big pussycat, laddie.
We don't want trouble, now, do we? Take it easy, Battle Cat.
Who and what are you? D'oh, well, good sir and lovely lady, my name is Tullamore, and I'm a Treeprachaun.
A Treeprachaun? [Tullamore.]
Ah, the same.
We Treeprachauns are the keepers of the Forgotten Forest.
Then please tell us where to find Skytree.
Why, that's no problem at all.
Just lift your eyes.
[triumphant music.]
Thank you.
Now let's go.
[dramatic music.]
Just a minute, now.
You haven't told me what you be after doing.
I don't think you want to know.
Move! [Battle Cat roaring.]
Ye miserable creatures! Ye won't get away! Tora McMorn! After 'em, boyos! [growling.]
[dramatic music.]
[He-Man.]
Skytree.
Hurry, He-Man! [Tullamore.]
Stop, ya monsters! Get 'em! Ay, you'll pay for that.
McCree, McCrack, McCorn, McCrew.
- [cracking.]
- He-Man, the trees! Close in.
Close in! [Skytree.]
Hold.
What is going on here? Forgive me for disturbing your rest, Your Treeness, but these folks are after doing you some harm.
Is this true? I'm afraid it is.
But why? [Teela.]
Please try to understand.
We don't want to hurt you, but my father's life is at stake, and if we don't bring you to Granamyr as a gift, he won't tell us how to reverse the spell that has turned my father to crystal.
Granamyr? Is that old dragon still jealous of me? Yes, and unless I bring you down for his fire pit, Man-At-Arms is doomed.
Man-At-Arms? He is your father? Yes.
You know of him? [Skytree.]
I know the name.
Through all of Eternia's long history, there has been a Man-At-Arms to uphold the cause of goodness.
In a time now forgotten, one such Man-At-Arms saved this forest from the Witches of Fire.
I am still in his debt.
Then you'll help us? I have stood in this spot for countless ages.
From my seeds, the forests were born.
I am the soul of all that is green and good.
Though I may fall, I will always exist wherever a tree spreads its branches to the sky.
Take up your sword, man of Eternia, and save your friend.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
But you can't go.
You can't.
It won't be the same without you.
Then it will bedifferent.
Keep the leaves of my children green, friend Tullamore.
[weeping.]
Teela, we can't do this.
But my father If he were here, I know he'd feel the same way.
Do you agree? Whoop-sha-la, whoop-sha-la! [laughing.]
I thank you, and I am sorry.
Ready? Granamyr! Where is my gift? - We don't have it.
- But you agreed.
Skytree, in fact any tree, has as much right to life as you or me or Man-At-Arms.
We will not take a life to save a life.
Pick another gift or or send us to the Realm of Demons now.
It would be my right to do so, wouldn't it? - It would.
- Wisdom, compassion, and the honoring of a bargain.
Who would have thought humankind would have improved so much in a thousand years? I accept this gift, He-Man.
In this book is the knowledge you need to restore your friend.
Thank you, Granamyr.
Thank you.
You can thank me best by letting me sleep and never bothering me again.
So He-Man made the right choice after all.
He said you would have done exactly the same, Father.
Dragons seem to have a very strange way of doing things.
That's the truth.
You know, I'd like to meet that Granamyr.
What do you say, Cringer? Should we go hunting a dragon? Oh, nononot me.
It looks like Cringer has made a good choice too.
[laughter.]
[Teela.]
Today He-Man had to decide whether or not to chop down a tree.
Now, the trees around you probably don't speak the way Skytree did.
Or if they do, we haven't learned to hear them yet.
But trees are living things, and when you respect a tree, you show that you care about all life.
Life is a wonderful, precious gift.
Learn to enjoy and respect it and you'll be a happier, better person for it.
Bye for now.
