Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021) s01e07 Episode Script

Everybody Takes a Beating Sometime

1 In the nation's largest city, the vicious and violent members of the underworld are hunted by the detectives of the Organized Crime Control Bureau.
These are their stories.
- Welcome.
- Cuff her.
You're under arrest for the murder of Kathy Stabler.
Your son got caught by his adoptive father, who dealt with him the only way that he deals with anybody who rips him off.
I want to help you put Richard Sinatra in a cell for the rest of his life.
You're gonna file a lawsuit against the NYPD? We're gonna need your support, Ayanna.
I realize it's complicated for you.
Richie, you brought a rat into our house.
You made this mess; you're gonna clean it up.
- Richie - [GUNSHOTS.]
The purpose of the meet is for our buyer to make a large purchase of illegal COVID product.
As soon as the transfer of crypto-currency, goes to Wheatley, we get in there, make the bust.
You ready to make a deal? [TENSE DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
[GROANS QUIETLY.]
[PANTING.]
Thanks, babe.
I've got to finish getting ready for work.
You were up late last night.
Yeah, I was going over my briefs.
I'm making the opening statement.
Well, you are gonna be the finest seven-months pregnant lawyer to ever sue the NYPD.
And I was worrying about you.
Mm Don't worry.
We're ready for today.
We've been ready.
Promise me.
Cut.
We good? Walk away from me and say something in a conversational tone.
If this goes down like we planned, - first round's on me.
- Good to go.
I heard you're not eating.
Is this a hunger strike? It's not a political act.
I just haven't been hungry.
Angela, you need to eat.
Please try.
I'll eat when Richard's in custody.
Are you and your client ready to make a deal yet? I have some conditions.
Go ahead, help yourself.
Mi casa es su casa.
- Sorry, I should've waited.
- I'm kidding.
Have a glass of orange juice, my man.
- Richie, can I pour you some? - Richard.
Richie is a boy's name.
I think we can agree that my son's not a boy anymore.
Like I told him, boss, he made his bones.
Honestly, I didn't know he had it in him.
- Me neither.
- [CHUCKLES.]
Dad, what time are we meeting with Silvano? I'm picking him up in 45 minutes outside his hotel and bringing him to the location.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
What is this? Oh, don't worry, it's just precautionary.
We're about to enter into a deal that will elevate the Wheatley enterprise to un unprecedented level of global influence.
And I expect the level of scrutiny on us to increase accordingly.
So I brought on a new security detail for extra insurance.
It's not to diminish your dedication or effectiveness, Izak, both of which I'll always cherish.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
[SOFT PIANO MUSIC.]
- Mmm.
- [SPEAKING ITALIAN.]
I'm still enjoying my American breakfast.
Mmm.
[GRUMBLES.]
[SPEAKING ITALIAN.]
Show time.
[TENSE DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
We're live with Silvano.
Mmm, buono.
I wish I'd given him a watch instead of a hearing aid.
Why's that? He's an extremely loud chewer.
Good morning, Mr.
Silvano.
Okay, he's made contact.
- Only him.
- Mi scusi? - This is not how we arranged.
- Mr.
Wheatley's orders.
Is there a problem? No, not a problem.
[SPEAKING ITALIAN.]
I'm gonna need your phone.
Mr.
Whe I don't take orders from Mr.
Wheatley.
What is it? There a problem? Gina Cappelletti hasn't checked in in the last 18 hours.
She's usually pretty good about that? Always.
[SOMBER MUSIC.]
Can I get a minute with my client before we start? [SIGHS.]
Yeah.
I'll be right outside.
Thank you.
Are you sure about this? Because there's a very good chance we could beat these charges if we let it go to trial.
I am.
He murdered my son, Ellsworth.
I understand you believe that.
But could it be a ploy? Detective Stabler wouldn't do that to me.
He was telling me the truth.
Did you sleep with this detective? God, does it matter? It doesn't matter to me.
But yes, it does matter.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I didn't sleep with him.
Are you in love with him? [SOFT DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
Okay, we need to hit all of our marks today.
Sloot will be monitoring comms.
Our CI, Izak Bekher, will deliver Silvano to Joey Raven's warehouse, where the deal is going down.
The Guardos and the Wheatleys are partners, so there's gonna be a ton of firepower.
And as we discussed, we're listening for Wheatley to ask Silvano to take care of the competition NGOs, government agents, or petty dictators.
We're talking about assassinating a head of state.
Yes.
Is ESU in place? Captain, are you and your team in position? Chambliss.
We're 84.
[INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER.]
ESU is confirmed.
Okay, so the most important thing: do not jump until Sloot records the transfer of crypto-currency from Silvano to Wheatley's account.
You look to me for the signal.
And we go in and we arrest him.
[MUSIC INTENSIFIES.]
So who's Bekher? Which one? I'm supposed to meet Izak Bekher.
Where is Bekher? Hang on, Bekher's not in the car with Silvano.
What do you mean? Silvano just let us know.
He's MIA.
Sit tight.
Mr.
Wheatley is going to call you.
Did he check in with you today? No, I figured he didn't have a window.
Gina, and now Bekher? What do you want to do? Let's move.
[TENSE DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
You know why we had to dispense with Izak? I figured you had your reasons.
You killed a police officer, Richard.
Izak was an eye-witness.
It's something he would've held over you for the rest of your life.
So who are these new guys? The Bogner Group.
The most discreet, highly-skilled operators on the planet.
And you know what's cool about them? They have no conscience whatsoever.
I've been in talks with them for months.
Today today we made it official.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
Twelve men, including Raven.
Confirming twelve Guardo men entering the location.
They're inside, which means they're offline until Silvano steps in.
How're they doing? Let's move.
You.
C'mon.
Set up the feed.
- You got it? - Yeah.
Bye.
We figure on nine men positioned as shooters.
Copy that.
- Any word on Silvano? - I'm in contact with Silvano.
He's on the move in one of Wheatley's vehicles.
- Where's your inside guy? - Haven't heard from Bekher.
So you don't have a location on Wheatley? We're standing by and waiting for Wheatley to make contact with Silvano.
I've got six other warrants lined up today, Detective.
If this thing is gonna go south, I need you to cut us loose.
It's not going south.
Hey, Cap.
Do you know about this? Can you confirm any of the things we've heard? This morning we filed a civil lawsuit for personal injury and assault and battery against the NYPD on behalf of Damon King, and a claim against the two police officers that assaulted Damon for violation of his civil rights.
What about your wife, Sergeant Ayanna Bell? - Where is she on all this? - You should ask her.
She's quite capable of speaking for herself.
Does she support a lawsuit against her own police department and her fellow officers? Sergeant Bell would prefer not to be associated with any of this.
But, like I said, I won't speak for her, and yet I believe that she believes we are doing the right thing.
Thank you.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
- Any sign of Wheatley yet? - Not directly, but Silvano's en route.
I hate to do this, but we have other warrants to execute that will actually go.
One is about to pop off now.
We're moving out.
Captain Chambliss, I don't know what you think is happening here I think you're wasting our time, Sergeant.
Your CI is MIA.
Your target is out of pocket.
If the situation was reversed, would you have our backs? What the hell is he talking about? I'm pretty sure he's talking about Denise.
[PHONE BUZZES.]
Nothing is as we planned.
This is not how I do business.
Trust me, my friend.
We're right on schedule and everything is sweet.
By the end of the day, you and I will be partners in an unstoppable offensive.
Wheatley's in contact with Silvano.
Morales and Washburn are following them at a good distance.
Yeah, I've got Silvano too.
Wheatley's made contact.
I'm calling Moennig to see if he can pull an SRG unit to back us up Who are these men in the car with me, huh? What happened to Bekher? We're not working with him anymore, but that's immaterial.
This is between you and me.
We're only a few miles away from one another and I have us covered in every direction.
[SIGHS.]
Wheatley's closing in and Chambliss just bailed on us.
It sounds like Bekher is out.
What do you mean, Bekher is out? Do you know why Chambliss bailed? Because he had other warrants and he didn't believe Wheatley was gonna show.
He bailed because he's a bigoted scumbag.
Okay, that's not helpful right now.
Lieutenant, this op is about to go live in less than ten minutes.
We've been working on this for months.
We can't just back down now.
Have you seen your wife's press conference? I've been a little busy this morning.
There's too much chaos.
I don't have backup.
You can't handle this alone, Sergeant.
She's not alone.
She's with me.
And I'm with her.
We've got a great team.
We've got this.
Let's get ready to dismount.
[INTENSE MUSIC.]
All right, boys, get ready.
It's show time.
[DOG BARKING, WHINING.]
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
I think we got something here.
Got it.
- Come on, let's go.
- [DOG WHINING.]
- [DOG BARKING.]
- Got it, got it.
[DOGS WHINING.]
Heel, heel, heel! [WHISPERS.]
Here, here, here.
[FOGHORN BLARING.]
Commander, we got a problem.
We got a camera that wasn't there yesterday.
Show me.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
Richard, what's wrong with this picture? - Somebody's watching us.
- Wanna bet who? [PHONE BUZZING.]
Ah, don't panic, Richard.
The location's not compromised.
I'm not panicked because I think the location is compromised.
I'm panicked that I'm in business with a bunch of moronic street punks that don't even know how to conceal their over-the-counter toy surveillance camera.
You're out of the deal.
[GRUNTING ANGRILY.]
Tell your men to stand down.
We're moving the location.
Where to? Wheatley's heading away from the location.
Okay, is he calling off the meeting? Too soon to say.
I couldn't hear them.
And now you bring me back here.
Then you take me there! Now we are back again on Sutton Street.
Now where we going? [SPEAKING ITALIAN.]
Is it merry-go-round, huh? He's not calling it off.
He's moving it.
Everyone needs to know the situation is dynamic.
Okay, make sure Morales and Washburn stay tight.
Copy that, Sergeant; they've got eyes on Silvano's vehicle.
They're waiting to see where he goes.
Sergeant, request permission to leave the headquarters.
- Excuse me? - With all due respect, the team feels a little thin right now.
I heard Lieutenant Moennig saying he couldn't find an SRG unit.
I can stay on top of comms wherever you place me.
Have you shot your gun since requal? Yes, ma'am.
And I have it on standby.
- Morales.
- We're right behind him.
You and Freddie understand this operation is dynamic.
We are out here with little back-up.
We know what's going down, Sergeant.
Me and Washburn are with you all the way.
A hundred percent.
We got a good team.
We can handle this.
I just wish we had Cappelletti right now.
Amen.
Where are they going? Silvano's getting out of the Mercedes on Lafayette.
- Where are you? - 9th Street.
- Subway.
- Astor Place subway stop.
There's two entrances to the same platform, one on the Lafayette side, the other off 9th.
That's where they're headed.
Some stations are equipped with CCTV cams, not all.
- No cameras on the trains.
- I'll call Transit.
Washburn, Morales, I need you to get down on the platform and give me some eyes.
Let's go.
Detective Sullivan, this is Sergeant Ayanna Bell from Organized Crime Task Force.
I just sent you a text.
I need you to send a photo of Wheatley.
Copy that.
I think I see my friend over there.
Transit post number two to Central.
84 at Astor Place Station.
A transit UC has a visual on Wheatley.
Our guys are sticking close to Silvano.
But we've got a problem.
What's the problem? Silvano's earpiece is in and out.
It wasn't designed to transmit in the subway and if they make the deal down there, it's not gonna record.
Do you have something that will? A directional mic.
But that means you got to get down there and hide it.
And you're not going down there because it's too dangerous.
I ride the subway all the time.
We need you on comms.
We can't do this flying blind.
It's recording.
Just don't touch the screen in the upper left corner.
This should only take a few minutes.
Can I just get a bun? Sullivan, let your UC know one of my guys is coming down there to give her a directional mic.
I appreciate that you can make the trip, Gianluca.
I hope your flight was okay and the hotel is to your liking.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
I don't have any money.
Do you want a hot dog? - I hope you like relish.
- Bless you, child.
Thanks.
You too.
I know there was some back and forth this morning, and I appreciate you sticking with us, Gianluca.
- Let's get down to business.
- Yeah, let's.
There are things we must discuss first which are not to talk about here, in public.
Don't worry, you're in a safe spot.
Trust me.
Silvano's stalling.
He doesn't know we've got him.
We need to find a way to let him know.
Morales, copy? Copy.
Okay, I need you and Washburn to find a way to let Silvano know that we have ears on them.
Say the name Saint Domitilla.
He'll know it's me; you just gotta make sure he hears it.
Hey, guys, so sorry here, I'm I'm looking for Saint Domitilla Church.
Oh, my God.
Which train goes to Hey, all right.
No reason.
Saint Domitilla Church? Any of you guys know where that is anybody? [CHUCKLES.]
Okay, how many doses do you sell? I have control of half a dozen countries in the region.
- Give me a number.
- 200 to start.
1 million by the end of the year.
Sloot, great job.
See if it's recording.
First, tell me price.
How do I make payment? Everything in crypto-currency.
Half in Z Cash or Ethereum, half in my own proprietary coin.
No.
I'm not using coin I don't recognize.
We've got it all on a flash drive, and it's being simultaneously recorded onto a RAID drive back at the shop.
So how I navigate factions is, we use our friends in Boko Haram to clear path.
Anybody that gives us trouble, they take care of.
I'll tell you what.
Take care of something for me, and I'll give you a break on my coin.
- Mohamed Maju Bah - Oh, no, no, no, no.
Very bad guy.
No.
I don't do business.
No.
Agreed.
I'll pay your friends in Boko Haram $100,000 in Naira to clear him from our path.
[CHUCKLES.]
You mean kill him? Mm, I was trying to be a little bit more diplomatic, but yes.
He's always been problematic and the world would be a better place.
I would regard it as the ultimate act of friendship.
[CHUCKLES.]
[SPEAKING ITALIAN.]
You cover my expenses.
And another 80,000 to complete project.
Make it 100.
Overpay your men a little.
Bravo.
You value loyalty.
Me too.
Just one problem, Signor Wheatley.
Two things today don't go as planned.
My people tell me you can be, how do you say? Reckless.
- What the hell is he doing? - He's going for a damn Oscar.
Come on, Silvano, fai l'accordo! Mr.
Silvano, my father is a risk taker.
That's how he got to where he's at today.
We take big swings and sometimes we gotta get nimble but he doesn't leave a mess.
Now, if you can't understand the fact that adjustments are just part of the business process, well, then maybe you shouldn't be in the business.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
It's in the bank.
Virtually speaking.
Lieutenant, we're going in.
[EXCITING MUSIC.]
- Freeze! - Police! - [OVERLAPPING SHOUTING.]
- On the ground! - Nobody move! - Hands in the air! 10-85.
Transit to central.
Police! - Put your hands up! - Hands up.
- Do not move.
- Show your hands.
- No moving! - [INDISTINCT SHOUTING.]
Hands, hands! Do not move! - On the ground! - Hands up! - Hands up! - Don't move.
[SHOUTING CONTINUES.]
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
[SUBWAY ALERT CHIMES.]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
Gun, gun! He has a gun! - [SCREAMING.]
- Police, get down! - Get down! - [INDISTINCT PANICKED CHATTER.]
[PANTING.]
Move, move.
Get down! - Police, freeze! - Get up! - [PANICKED GASPING.]
- Get up! I'll do it.
I'll do it, Elliot! You'll have more blood on your hands.
Drop it! Put it down! [SHRIEKS.]
[SCREAMING.]
- Everyone, down! Down! - [ALL GASPING.]
Drop the gun! Drop the gun! Everybody get behind me.
Get behind me now.
[PANICKED CHATTER.]
Kick it over to me.
Go ahead.
Shoot me.
That's what you do.
You shoot people.
How many have you killed? Seven, eight? So go ahead.
- Assume the position.
- Do it.
Back up against the door.
Back up against the door.
Come on, shoot me.
Come on.
[HANDCUFFS CLICKING.]
Nice and easy, dirtbag.
[GRUNTS.]
[BOTH GROANING.]
Sarge, look what I found.
Ah, just the man we've been looking for.
Richard Wheatley, you're under arrest.
- Blah, blah.
- You have the right to remain silent.
- Blah, blah, blah, blah.
- Everything you say can and will be used against you in a Court of Law.
You have the right to an attorney.
If you can't afford one, one will be provided What am I looking for, Ms.
Wheatley? Okay, the first thing you want is his ledgers.
I keep them old-school, in a set of binders.
They're in a locked drawer in the office to the left of his wine lair.
The access to the drawer is fingerprint activated, so No worries.
[KNOCK AT DOOR.]
Police! Open up.
Police.
Search warrant.
- [DOGS BARKING.]
- Ma'am, call your dogs off.
Euphrosyne, Aglaia, Thalia [SPEAKING PORTUGUESE.]
- Mom, what's happening? - [SPEAKING PORTUGUESE.]
Ryan, go call your father.
The dogs are harmless, unless you're allergic to slobber.
[SPEAKING PORTUGUESE ANGRILY.]
[SWEEPING DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
Now here, Wheatley's trying to cut us out.
That pazzo deadbeat, we never should've let him in the front door.
All right.
All right.
[CHUCKLES.]
Do you attest that all the information you've provided is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge? Yes.
I'll take care of you.
[PHONE BUZZES.]
Hello? Well done.
Congratulations.
Your ex-husband's in custody.
[UPLIFTING MUSIC.]
- [HOWLS.]
Yeah! - That's right.
- Well done, Sergeant.
- Thanks.
Elliot.
[GROWLS HAPPILY.]
Congratulations to all of you.
I don't five.
Ayanna, could I have a few minutes? Yeah.
- Yeah! - [LAUGHS.]
Yeah, baby! Come on.
Is this about her wife's lawsuit? I don't think so.
[SOMBER MUSIC.]
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
- Dad! - Don't worry.
Did anyone lay a hand on you? - No.
- Let's go.
I promise, we won't be here long.
Move it! Stay strong, D.
Where did they find her? Abandoned bunker near Montauk.
She left some breadcrumbs, though.
Sergeant Bell.
Detective Stabler.
Two bullet wounds.
The lethal shot entered just above the spleen.
We're waiting on ballistics, but ESU found both shell casings.
The shooter used handloaded ammunition.
- Have you heard from Bekher? - Not yet.
This wasn't him, though.
It's too messy.
Those are his bullets.
He had a hand in this.
Hey, Richie, how are you doing? We need to talk.
About what? Well, what do you think? Sarge, what do you want to talk about? Gina Cappelletti.
- Dad! - Richie! Richie.
Just tell us what happened.
I don't know.
I don't think it was your gun.
- Dad! - Was it Izak Bekher's? - Ask him.
- Well, where is he? - I don't know.
- Richie, don't say anything! Wait for your lawyer, okay? Richie, we know you were there.
I don't know.
I don't know.
- [SHOUTING.]
- Sarge! Sarge! Hey, we don't do that.
Let's just talk with the gentleman.
She wanted to protect you.
Said you were messed up because of your father, but that you were a good kid and you were incapable of hurting anyone.
[SCOFFS.]
You did not deserve her kindness.
What is she doing here? She gave us passwords, backdoors to his platforms, locations to key documents.
She's fully cooperating.
She just had one request.
I want to see my ex-husband.
And I was hoping you'd join us.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
You're vile.
And you've ruined our children's lives.
Richard and Dana are gonna be fine.
They're only gonna be here for a matter of days, if not hours.
And what about Raffi? I told them everything I know.
Because I have nothing to lose anymore.
Did she tell you she ordered the hit on your wife? I told him what I said.
And I told him what you did.
Detective Stabler strikes me as a fairly intelligent man.
I doubt if he fell for that "I was grief stricken.
I didn't I never meant for him to take me literally" performance.
I assume that's what she told you? Right.
It's the truth, and you know it.
Fortunately I recorded you.
In fact, I recorded all your conversations in which you conspired with Izak to plant the bomb, then make sure Mrs.
Stabler's husband was distracted by a phone call so he would be standing right there to witness her gruesome demise.
He's bluffing, Elliot.
There's no such recording.
"He's bluffing, Elliot".
[LAUGHS.]
Yes.
Girl, you are a hot mess.
Still trying to seduce him? You know you're not the love of his life.
Nor was that poor woman you had brutally murdered the love of his life.
Yes, she was the mother of his children, and he cared for her.
Apparently, Detective Stabler is a good, God-fearing Catholic.
Ignore him, Elliot.
This is what he does.
But, plot twist [WHISPERING.]
There's someone else.
Another woman [GASPS MOCKINGLY.]
Who's the one true love of his life.
Every time he was looking into your pretty brown eyes, touching your face, or wherever else he was touching you, I'm willing to wager he was thinking about her.
Okay.
What was her name again, Elliot? They're both a hot mess.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
[WOLF HOWLS.]
