Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy (2015) s02e25 Episode Script

Unfortunate Son

1 This is the greatest Father's Day present I could ever ask for.
Thanks, Dad.
You're the best.
There's only one thing that could possibly make it better, son.
[CLICK, WHIRRING.]
[GASPS.]
[ALARM BLARING.]
[PANTS, GASPS.]
Okay, where'd that come from? Hard right! Hard right! Asleep at the wheel again, Quill? What? No way, Gamora.
That fortress just materialized.
- I am Groot? - I don't know.
Quill must've done something to tick that thing off.
J'Son of Spartax, Korvac demands retribution.
Ugh! Why does everyone think I'm my dad? [BEEPING.]
Can't imagine.
You will pay for all you have stolen from Korvac, J'Son.
Dude, J'Son is my father.
I am Star-Lord.
Who? Star Never mind.
Look, the guy you want is rotting in a cell a mile below Spartax.
Hopefully forever.
Okay.
Well, that was easy.
Now let's boogie, before he decides I'm someone else he hates.
[CLICKING.]
Rocket, why are we not boogying? [SIGHS.]
What'd ya break this time? Your systems are fully functional and under Korvac's control.
Hey, who invited you, flarknard? [LOUD THUD.]
- [ROCKET GRUNTS.]
- [KORVAC.]
No one.
But you are invited to be my prisoners.
Release this ship, or perish at the hands of Drax the Destroyer! [GRUNTS.]
Do not cower behind a specter.
- Face me and do battle with honor! - [GUARDIANS GRUNTING.]
That won't be necessary.
You will deliver your father, J'Son of Spartax, to me in one planetary rotation.
Aw, man.
What am I, the pizza man? Yeah.
Why don't you fire up that floating junkyard of yours and go get him yourse [MUFFLED GRUNTING.]
J'Son cowers behind a planetary shield he built to evade justice.
I cannot penetrate it, small fuzzy life-form, or I would have done so long ago.
He stole all that is dear to me and waged interplanetary war to cover his misdeeds.
Yeah, that sounds like my dad.
Making friends wherever he goes.
- Look, I wish I could help you, but - But you will.
[GAMORA, ROCKET CRY OUT.]
Bring me J'Son, and your friends will be released.
Fail, and they will cease to be your friends.
Aaahh! [QUILL.]
Star-Lord Super Awesome Adventure Log: Some might say selling my dad out to Korvac is a betrayal of family.
But it means saving the Guardians.
They're more family than J'Son could ever be.
Didn't think you'd have the courage to face me again, son.
And a happy Father's Day to you, too, Dad.
- Come on.
I'm busting you out.
- No.
- Wait.
What? - Whatever bargain you've struck with one of my countless enemies, I'll have no part of it.
What makes you think I'm working with your enemy? Okay, I'm totally working with your enemy.
Oh! [GRUNTS.]
Clearly not working very well.
I've had plenty of time to exercise in here.
I suppose I can thank you for that.
Now, if you don't mind, I'll just freeze you and find my own way out.
[GAGGING.]
Did I mention I changed the settings on my Element Blaster? In case you tried something stupid.
[MALE VOICE ON P.
A.
.]
Unauthorized breach.
Prisoner at large.
- All units apprehend.
- What? I'm authorized.
I'm the prince, remember? [ALARM BLARING.]
[GRUNTS.]
You expect to outrun the Royal Guard in a space pod? You got a better idea? Whoo-hoo-hoo! Dude, Victoria's flagship is awesome! Okay, I'll take it from here.
[BEEPING.]
No, you won't, Peter.
I have other plans for you.
[YELLS, GRUNTS.]
- Return fire.
- [QUILL.]
I don't take orders from you! Think you know aerial pursuit strategy better than I do? Oh, yeah? Well, who died and made you king? Oh, wait.
You're not anymore.
Ha.
Whoa! [GASPS.]
What is wrong with you? Fire! [BEEPING.]
I won't hurt an innocent pilot.
Have I taught you nothing, son? No one is innocent! [J'SON.]
And no one is hurt.
Whoo! Yeah! That was ama That was adequately executed.
Now tell me what this is about.
What? I just thought maybe we could just hang out, make up for lost time.
Selfishness and deceit are in your blood, Peter.
So spare me.
All right.
Fine.
Your buddy Korvac captured the Guardians.
You're the ransom.
Korvac.
There's a name I never expected to hear again.
A ruthless one-cyborg demolition crew who started a war that nearly destroyed all of Spartax.
He can transform sentient beings into mindless, [GROANING.]
mechanized weapons.
[CITIZENS GASP, EXCLAIM.]
He'd have made us all his personal army had we not developed the Planetary Shield.
I saw Korvac.
He wasn't a cyborg.
Plus, he says you started the war by stealing his stuff.
If you hand me over to Korvac, he will gain control over me and force me to shut down the shield.
All of Spartax will be wiped out.
But if we work together, we can save your friends and Spartax.
And how exactly do we manage that? I know someone who can help.
Wait.
Is that Rora, your old AI ship? Rora can mask organic life.
Korvac will let her in.
We'll grab the Guardians and escape on the Milano.
But Rora flargin' hates you.
I mean, the way you treated her, she'd never Rora still has feelings for me.
Trust me on this.
Bad feelings.
So you'd better hide.
Trust me on this.
Peter? Peter! What a wonderful surprise.
My beautiful Rora.
J'Son? What are you doing here? The truth is that my heart could no longer stand to be separated from you.
You miserable, lying, arrogant, self-absorbed pile of flarg! Called it.
[GRUNTS.]
[LOUD THUD.]
[RORA.]
After all the times you betrayed me, the years you left me to rust Rora, I can explain! [SINGSONGY.]
I can't hear you.
Because my ears are filled with the sound of your lies! We've obviously come at a bad time.
Good luck, son.
[GRUNTS.]
[GRUNTS.]
You swore you'd tear me apart for scrap with your own hands.
Rora, he isn't here! J'Son's not [GRUNTING.]
You egomaniacal, hollow, pathetic excuse for a man! [GROANS LOUDLY.]
Rora, wait.
Wait.
Is that Oh, you're not dragging me into A sun?! [DIGITAL VOICE.]
Warning.
Extreme gravitational field.
Alter course immediately.
[GRUNTS.]
Rora, don't leave me here! Suns are hot! They are really, really hot! [ALARM BLARING.]
[GRUNTS.]
Not to mention they have a really strong gravitational pull! [ALARM CONTINUES BLARING.]
Rora! [LAUGHS.]
My hair's gonna burst into flames in about ten seconds! I'm sorry, Peter, but I really need to focus on destroying your father.
My dad is not on this ship! He bailed! Please just look! Oh, very well.
Scanning.
[GRUNTS.]
[BLOWING.]
Rora? Anyone? [THUD.]
[RORA.]
Silly me.
You were right.
[MILANO CREAKING.]
Uh Oh, this does not sound good here.
[GRUNTING.]
Huh? [RORA.]
Don't worry, Peter.
I won't let you perish.
Your father, on the other hand [SIGHS.]
[RORA.]
Going somewhere, little man? I'm really sorry to have exposed you to this guy again.
But I guess I thought you'd want to help.
Of course I'll help you, Peter.
Sorry about the little misunderstanding earlier.
I forgive you, Rora.
Now, would you be a dear and grab a change of clothes for me? I would, but I accidentally jettisoned all your things into the nearest sun.
And you'll soon be joining them.
Not that he doesn't deserve it, but This whole Korvac thing This is about Korvac? - So you know the dude.
- I was We were involved.
- And ever since I stole her - Nobody stole me from anyone.
[SIGHS.]
You organics.
I am not a thing to be owned.
Korvac waged war against my entire empire in a desperate bid to win you back.
- He won't stop until - I know.
And I'll do this for Peter, not for you.
Scans show no sign of organic life.
Then where are my friends? I told you, Korvac is not to be trusted.
I can mask you from Korvac's bio-sensors, but not from his cameras.
[THUD.]
[KORVAC.]
Incoming ship, identify yourself.
Oh, my Cosmos! - Rora? - Hello, Korvac.
Fifteen solar orbits, and you just show up out of nowhere.
I know.
But for a long time, I've felt that there's something unfinished between us.
If I could just see you Please.
- Let's find your ship.
- You mean, find my friends.
Should be just around this corner.
Peter, Rora's scan showed no sign of organic life.
Her scanner's obviously messed up.
It didn't show Korvac.
He's here.
Korvac wouldn't show up on her scanners.
He's AI.
What? You said yourself he was cyborg, half organic.
He was.
After Rora broke his heart, he never wanted to have feelings again.
He upgraded himself with more and more cybernetic components until there was nothing organic left.
Now he's just ones and zeros stuffed into a tin can.
And he can change cans at will.
This is Korvac.
The entire fortress.
Korvac could be a whole planet, for all I care.
And I've met one of those.
But my friends are alive.
Here's the Milano to prove it.
Rocket, Gamora, open up! Drax! [GRUNTING.]
[COUGHING.]
Guys, you okay? [SIGHS.]
I was beginning to worry.
All this "no organic life" business [WHIRRING.]
I am Korvac.
And I am toast.
Guys, it's me, Quill.
They're not your friends anymore, Peter.
Korvac controls them now.
[GRUNTS.]
Rocket, don't make me [BOTH GRUNTING.]
[GROANS.]
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! [GRUNTING.]
[GRUNTS.]
No! [BOTH GRUNT.]
My friends are still in there somewhere.
We gotta buy some time! [GRUNTS, GROANS.]
I am Korvac.
[GASPS.]
No, you're not! Dad, what are you Spartax Planetary Defense System.
Mobile version.
Which you happen to have on hand? Of course not.
I borrowed Rora's.
[BEEPING.]
And now we can make our escape.
Dad, wait! That ice won't hold them forever! If my plan works, they won't be Korvac's tin soldiers anymore.
I rigged an explosive to take out Korvac as soon as we're out of range.
Awesome.
Where'd you learn that trick? Evil emperor school? From your mother, actually.
The Earth legend of the Trojan horse.
Wait So wait.
What's our horse? Rora, obviously.
You can't.
That's crazy.
We have to disarm her.
She's a ship! There's no time, son.
[GUN COCKS.]
Then we'll make time Dad.
Isn't it delightful, Korvac, to just relax and focus all our scanners on happier times? Yo, Korvac, I'm back! And I've got J'Son.
It's time to settle up, dude.
Did you hear them arrive? I didn't.
Korvac, wait! J'Son of Spartax.
I see you've dressed for the occasion.
Once a thief, always a thief.
And how did you get aboard without your vessel? Dear old Dad tried to sneak in with your ex and pull a fast one.
[QUIETLY.]
Keep him distracted till I signal.
- Peter, no! - What? He's a hologram.
[GRUNTS.]
Aah! A hard-light hologram.
Ohh.
You know, when I said "hologram," I didn't mean it as a bad thing! I'll deal with the son after I've had my revenge on the father.
[GRUNTING.]
You can't hide from me on this ship, J'Son.
I am this ship.
[GRUNTS.]
Ow! [RUNNING FOOTFALLS.]
Rora, it's a setup! My dad rigged you to explode! [BEEPING.]
He locked out my self-diagnostics.
I can't disarm it! I should've obliterated him when I had the chance! We can't give up yet, Rora.
Think.
What would Rocket do? - Aah! - Go while you can, Peter.
If I'm going off-line, then at least let me save you and your friends.
Rora, no.
Don't worry about me.
What was it J'Son said once? I'm just ones and zeros stuffed in a tin can.
Wait.
He said the exact same thing about Korvac.
And that Korvac can change tin cans at will.
So why can't you? [PANTING.]
Whoa! Leaving so soon, J'Son? We've barely had a chance to reminisce about old times.
Like when you stole my Rora from me! [GRUNTS.]
[GRUNTS.]
Peter, what are you doing? [GRUNTS.]
Finally putting Korvac's cyber cables to good use.
I'm gonna route your AI system through Korvac and transfer you to the Milano.
Peter, it'll take too long.
Save your friends.
Save yourself.
That's what my dad would do.
I won't leave anyone behind.
Even him.
Father, if you're still alive and wanna stay that way, you better get here quick.
Oh, this better work.
[BEEPING.]
Whoo-hoo! [POUNDING ON DOOR.]
Huh? [POUNDING CONTINUES.]
Get in, Dad! Taking off in three, two, one.
[RORA.]
Are they gone, Korvac? They won't get far, my dear.
Then we can finally be together? Just the two of us? Yes, my love.
[BEEPING.]
Rora, gotta move it on that data transfer.
[SIGHS.]
Dad? Hello? Good.
Stay down there, Dad.
I'm not talking to you anyway, ever.
Dad? Aah! [GRUNTS.]
[GRUNTS.]
Dad, I take it back! Help! Aw, come on.
Seriously? [YELLS.]
Peter, come in.
My download is almost complete.
[GASPS.]
Korvac, is that you? I now have everything I've wanted J'Son, a servile component, and sole possession of my Rora.
But, Korvac, before you take ownership, remember, there's something unfinished between us.
Yes, yes.
What is it? It's just, well, we never really said good-bye.
No! [ALARM BEEPING.]
[RORA.]
Good-bye, Korvac.
[GASPS.]
[ALL GROANING.]
- What happened? - I am Groot.
Rora, it worked! Rora? [QUILL.]
Well, I hate to go, Dad, but that's probably about as much making up for lost time as I can take.
Now, the good news is, you won't be alone.
[GASPS.]
Turns out my ones and zeros can be just about anywhere they want.
Fortunately, my system doesn't have to go into sleep mode for another 37 years.
You and I have a lot to discuss.
First off I have a feeling Rora's actually gonna enjoy her new security gig.
J'Son, however, will not.
I am Groot? Eh, who cares? Jerk had it comin'.
Happy Father's Day, Dad.
