[Gi-on sighs heavily]
-EM's been going okay?
-Nope.
Your last rotation was OS? How was that?
That was no fun, either.
The R2s there are really scary.
So the R2s are the problem, huh?
In OB-GYN, it's the R1s who are the issue.
Why? What are they like?
They're all
They got problems.
-Breathe slowly.
-[pants]
[Gi-on] Like, one of them
is just stone cold.
She's practically hypothermic.
-Ma'am, you have to keep pushing.
-[gasping]
-I think I'm gonna die. [gasping]
-You're not even close. Keep pushing.
[intern] If that's the case,
maybe you should turn up the thermostat.
-There we go. Keep pushing.
-[Gi-on] We can't.
-'Cause this other one?
-All righty!
He's always on fire.
Yes, that's it! That's good!
One, two, three [grunts]
[patient screams]
Right. Now go again.
One, two, three
[both grunt]
[both scream]
-Ma'am, just push.
-[straining]
[Gi-on] This other one is
so high-strung. Major hypertension.
-Once more.
-[both straining]
There you go, keep pushing!
Oh, you did great
[Gi-on] And the last one, I can't
even get a measurement on her.
No diagnosis given.
Doctor, it hurts too much.
-[groans]
-Ma'am, try to breathe.
-[groaning]
-So, ma'am, are you lightheaded?
-No. [groaning]
-Then you've got a ways to go.
Call me when you're lightheaded.
-[Gi-on] Verdict: maybe a robot.
-What the hell? [cries out]
[sighs] I'm on the OB-GYN rotation
next month.
-I'm screwed.
-[chuckles]
But on second thought, I guess it's not
it's not too bad, after all.
You said they all had issues.
All the residents are weirdos,
but when you witness a birth,
it's great.
And all the patients we interact with,
they're all so kind.
It's hard work.
But I like it.
-[alarm blaring]
-[gasps]
-Jesus Christ.
-Come on, man.
Your corny speech set off my alarm.
[chuckles] For my meds.
I got hypertension too. I gotta take them.
Let's go.
Let's go.
[whimsical music playing]
[chuckles] They're interns, right?
-[chuckles]
-They're clearly not fellows.
You're right. Sorry.
[sighs]
That intern, Dr. Tak Gi-on.
You think he'd give OB-GYN a go?
Wait a second, are you already recruiting?
"Already"? It's July. We're way behind.
This year's crop of R1s
was a total failure.
If next year's crop's bad too,
that'll be the end of us.
-You gotta get your act together.
-Oh.
Okay.
Let's go.
Let's go.

EPISODE 7
[intriguing music playing]
I got chewed out by Professor Seo
for messing up a suture.
She told me to watch you.
-Nam-kyung.
-Huh?
-You got yelled at, too?
-No. She didn't yell at me.
She just complained a little.
[sighs]
You always act like you're phoning it in,
but you're doing just fine.
No, I'm not.
When suturing abdominal fascia,
Professor Kong made a recommendation.
She uses fine stitches
to prevent a hernia.
But Professor Seo complains about fine
stitching, saying it cuts off circulation.
-I can't even tell the difference!
-It's Professor Seo's style.
-[Yi-young] Oh, really?
-You didn't know?
Mm-mm. I just do
whatever they tell me to do.
[gasps] Is she a genius?
I wouldn't call her that. "If you don't
have brains, your hands do the work."
In other words, her hands are making up
for what she lacks elsewhere.
Yi-young's smart, though.
Wasn't she high school valedictorian?
Hey, I had higher grades.
She just tested well.
We were rivals for
all years of high school.
None of that crap matters.
What's the point of valedictorian?
I'm still broke, always hungry,
practically a peasant.
You got another bag?
Oh, this?
They offered a yearlong installment plan,
and it was the last one in this color,
can you believe that? So I got it.
I had to.
-Isn't it pretty?
-Meh.
Not really my style.
My mom would like it.
[sighs] You really have no clue.
Ever heard of "old money"?
-You don't have anywhere to show it.
-'Course I do!
I come to work, I leave,
I go to the hospital, I go home.
Nam-kyung goes lots of places.
She goes on dates, sees her boyfriend.
-I told you, we're not together.
-I thought you just had an argument.
I'm heading out.
We broke up! It's officially over!
Just so you know,
I'm not gonna pick up if he calls.
Even if he's crying and begging me
to be with him,
it wouldn't matter,
I'm never taking him back. [scoffs]
Here we go again. Let us know once
you've decided whether it's permanent.
-I told you already. It's over between us!
-[door closes]
-[sighs] Why won't anyone listen
-[cell phone chimes]
Huh?
[Gi-on] We have that ER patient's results.
[sighs]
[Nam-kyung] Gi-dong,
call me once you've cooled off.
I'll be waiting.
It's the ER.
I'm off.
[door opens, closes]
[voice] Pick me.
[soft music playing]
[panting] My phone, my phone, my phone.
[door closes]
[exhales]
-Don't you think?
-[sighs] Yeah, exactly.
Hello, how are you?
Hi, Doctor
-Uh
-Dr. Pyo Nam-kyung.
-Where you off to?
-To the ER.
The intern and I
are gonna examine a patient.
Oh, right, the rotating intern.
You know, Doctor, uh
-Dr. Tak Gi-on.
-Right.
-That him?
-Yes.
-See you later.
-Okay, see you later.
Oh, actually, Pyo Nam-kyung,
some of the interns have mentioned
you're especially popular.
-Do I hear correctly?
-Me?
Especially with, uh, who was it? Um
-You know him.
-Who? Who are you talking about?
The one who
was on rotation with us in April.
He mentioned that
you showed him the ropes,
and you were very kind
and patient with him.
[chuckles] Oh, I barely did anything.
You're making an impression.
I was worried we wouldn't have
any applicants next year,
but sounds like we can
count on you, Doctor.
Oh, really?
Many interns choose their department
based on the residents they like.
Ah!
[Jung-min] And if we don't have R1s,
it's the R2s who'll suffer the most.
So, if you could try buttering up
the interns, that'd be nice.
Of course.
I'll do that.
Keep it up.
Yep.
-[chuckles] Goodbye. Thank you.
-[Jae-hui chuckles]
I hope she can get Tak Gi-on
to get on board.
But are you sure that intern's
actually any good to recruit?
Yes, he is.
He's sharp and capable.
He's a perfect fit for OB-GYN.
[patient] It's not cholangitis,
so don't worry.
Yeah, I've also been coughing,
so I'm sure it's just a cold.
[sniffles] Actually, there's someone
I know here.
Don't worry.
[Gi-on] Coming in.
Yes. Honey, the doc's here.
I'll call you later. Okay, bye.
-Miss Lee Ik-sun?
-Yes.
-I'm just gonna do an ECG on you.
-Sorry?
Oh, I've never had one before.
I don't understand
why I'd need to have that.
Um
Your current symptoms suggest metastasis,
and it could have something to do
with your heart, so I have to.
-Metastasis?
-Yes.
If it's metastasis,
are you saying that it's cancer?
Uh
Have you been coughing and possibly
feeling tightness in your chest lately?
Coughing
Yes, I have.
I think I've been feeling
a bit of chest tightness as well.
And you've had major surgery before?
-Yes, that's correct.
-That must've been a lot to go through.
[hesitates]
Is it something very serious?
[cell phone ringing]
Sorry, excuse me.
Hi. No, not yet.
I told you not to worry. I'm gonna
call you as soon as I'm done.
Uh-huh.
[breathes deeply]
God, I've only just stopped taking
my meds. I thought I was in the clear.
-[pensive music playing]
-[sighs] I can't believe this.
Ah.
What's going on?
Oh. Hey.
What is it? Is it bad?
What, something wrong?
Oh, uh, so
Do we have results?
-Could I take a look at the CT scan?
-Oh, uh
Oh, Dr. Tak, what are you doing here?
Oh. Doctor. I'm about to do
an ECG on the patient,
but, uh, she's a bit shaken up.
Oh
-What is your name?
-Lee Ik-sun.
[sighs] Um, Miss Lee Ik-sun, age 89?
-Eighty
-[sighs]
[whimsical music playing]
Department?
GS? GI?
[sighs] We're from OB-GYN.
[exhales heavily]
I'm very sorry, ma'am, for the mix up.
Our intern here grabbed the wrong
patient records. Sorry about that.
Isn't checking patient details
as basic as it gets?
This is a mistake you shouldn't make,
no matter how busy you are.
I understand. Won't happen again.
[Ik-sun] Goodbye.
-I apologize for the inconvenience.
-I'm sorry.
Seriously, how could you not check?
What were you thinking?
[Gi-on] I'm sorry.
[sighs]
[sighs] Captain An.
These kids on staff are far too lax.
[martial music playing]
My apologies, Major Lee.
[sniffles] All of this
is making my nose run.
[sniffles] Tissue, tissue.
-Tissue, tissue
-Tissue.
[sniffles] Tissue.
Oh, is it, uh, for the the pigeon thing?
-It's for blowing my nose.
-[chuckles]
It's running. [sniffles]
They gave me a shock.
Anyway, at this point, too old to do that.
I'm too out of shape for pigeon calls.
-You work out a lot, though.
-Yeah, I do.
That's the only reason
I'm not in worse shape.
Oh, wow.
And you? Jeez. Oof.
I can tell you don't work out at all.
What are you talking about?
-I think I look great.
-Oof.
I'm a Millennial, both,
physically and mentally.
[exhales]
Oh, how embarrassing.
In that case, as your senior,
I can buy you dinner tonight.
How 'bout it, Millennial? You want pasta?
Oh, I saw one of those places
on my way here
-Brick-oven pizza?
-Mm-mm.
Let's have rice, maybe.
Koreans need rice for energy.
There's a phenomenal beef soup restaurant
right around the corner. Let's go there.
Beef soup? That's not Millennial.
-Pasta's better.
-[cell phone rings]
-Millennial.
-Excuse me.
-Milleninial, let's have pasta.
-Sure, I'll be right there.
Pasta, let's have pasta.
Millennial. Pasta!
Hey, kids these days,
they're into beef soup.
You're out of touch with the times, Major.
-I'll leave you to it. See you later.
-See ya.
Who wouldn't be shaken up
if they were told it was metastasis?
You should've double-checked
before telling her anything concerning.
I'm sorry.
I suddenly got swamped,
and I took my eye off the ball.
Going forward, follow these rules.
Always check name and age
along with their ID.
-Got it?
-Right.
I'm sorry.
[sighs] Seriously.
Still, I appreciate it.
All the other R1s, they just yell at me.
And tell me to get lost.
I wonder who. Huh
-Dr. Oh Yi-young.
-Ah.
But you tell me.
You say what I did wrong
and how I can fix it going forward.
I really like that.
[chuckles] I'm so flattered.
But I'm just trying to do the right thing.
Interns are my equals, you know?
I respect everyone here.
It's a golden rule.
[chuckles softly]
[ringing]
Jongno Yulje Medical Center ER.
We're full right now. Try elsewhere.
You have any idea
how long we've been waiting?
Sorry, someone'll be with you shortly.
Hello? Oh, I'm in the ER to deal with
a multi-department patient.
Sure, I'll be there soon.
I got a call about a patient with
abdominal pain and a CT showing a mass.
-Over there, Zone E.
-Thanks.
Uh, the CT scan shows an ovarian cyst.
Looks like it's three centimeters in size.
Yes, but I've always had that.
Well, normally,
a cyst that small doesn't cause pain.
May I touch?
-Does this hurt?
-No, it doesn't hurt there.
-The pain isn't in your lower abdomen?
-[sighs]
If it's the cyst causing it,
you should feel pain here.
-How about here?
-[patient yelps]
Doctor, knock, knock.
Ugh, I'm busy.
Uh, so, I've examined her,
and the location of pain
isn't where the cyst is.
She has pain in her upper abdomen
and indigestion,
so, I'm not sure it's for us.
Earlier, she said she had pain
in her abdomen.
But,
not all belly pain in female patients
is necessarily an OB-GYN issue.
It wasn't clear from the C
it was cholecystitis,
so we called you guys
in case it was an ovarian cyst torsion.
Then we called Gastroenterology.
It's not really common
for a three-centimeter cyst
to develop torsion.
Yeah, that's true, but doesn't hurt
to have it checked out in person.
Last week, you called about
a patient with appendicitis.
Because that patient had
a history of ovarian surgery.
And before that, someone with gastritis.
She said she tended to have
bad menstrual pain.
Giving her painkillers
would have sufficed.
Hey, I thought you wanted us to call you.
-Sorry?
-[sighs]
Last week, you complained we left patients
waiting instead of calling you right away.
Earlier, you criticized us for
diagnosing patients without an OB workup.
You told us to call you without delay.
That's not what I meant by that.
Lately, you're calling us a lot.
However, the patients in question
aren't relevant to us.
So should we not call you?
[tsks]
We shouldn't?
-No.
-There you go.
We'll call you next time we get a patient.
Bye.
[whimsical music playing]
[sighs]
Is this Dr. Park from Pediatrics?
This is Kim Sa-bi from OB-GYN
regarding Miss Yoo Hong-seon.
Is she in labor? Should I head over?
No, her progress is slow.
I think she'll deliver tomorrow.
You think so? That mean
I can have dinner tonight?
If that's fine, I'll leave now.
Okay, you can do whatever you want.
I'll check on her progress tomorrow
and give you a call in the morning.
Great.
[patient screaming in pain]
Doctor, Miss Yoo's baby is coming.
We need you here right now.
[Jae-hui] What? You said
it wasn't gonna be today!
I think it's coming now.
Its heart rate's dropping. Hurry!
But you told me I could eat dinner.
[sighing] All right.
[thuds]
Ow! Ugh, damn Obstetrics! [yelps]
[baby fussing]
[crying]
[gentle music playing]
[Moo-kang] Aw, there you go, there you go.
FAMILY DELIVERY ROOM
Here you go.
Aw, look at you.
Doctor, the baby's okay?
The breathing's stable?
Yes, you said the heart rate was dropping,
but everything's fine, nothing's wrong.
Doctor, why are you angry at me?
The baby's fine.
Isn't this a perfect outcome?
Why are you upset?
-Wait a minute, I'm not angry
-[cell phone ringing]
FAMILY BIRTH ROOM
Hello? Park Moo-kang speaking.
[groans] This is Park Sol's baby in
the NICU, right? I'll be right there.
You know how many times
you've called Anesthesia today?
-[groans softly]
-We're administering the local anesthetic.
You might feel a little discomfort,
the needle is thick.
Okay.
[groaning softly]
Have you ever heard of epidural heaven?
The pearly gates are about to open.
Once the epidural kicks in,
you won't feel much pain, so please relax.
[sighs]
Don't you think this is a bit much?
You've called every half hour.
Do it all at once.
I've been back and forth five times today.
Sorry about that.
[sighs] No exaggeration, we have
three emergency surgeries right now,
liver transplant,
cerebral hemorrhage, peritonitis
-It's pandemonium in every OR.
-It's the same here.
Seriously, every half hour, a patient
starts screaming in the labor room,
and the husbands won't stop complaining.
You're not the only one that's busy.
That's not really my problem.
We're not a military unit.
[patient shrieks]
-[husband] Excuse me! Doctor!
-[sighs]
[patient groaning]
[Yi-young] Doctor!
You started her epidural
an hour ago, but it's not working.
Give her another dose. Now.
-[sighs]
-[patient shrieks]
Uh
Help me out?
Would it be possible to not bring it up?
My mom, she won't agree to the surgery
if she knows it's cancer.
But, sir, at this stage,
it's best to tell her. I think
it would be better for her treatment.
Oh, uh, it's just
This year, both her friend and her sister
suffered terribly from cancer
and then passed away.
Because of that, she believes that surgery
is pointless when it comes to cancer.
And she refuses to suffer unnecessarily
in a hospital.
In any case,
I lied to her. I told her it was
just a cyst to get her here.
If you want to operate,
I think this is really the only way.
When the surgery is over,
I'll definitely tell her everything.
[sentimental music playing]
[Jae-hui] The Pyeongnam Market
mung bean pancake lady
[Nam-kyung] Sorry?
Pancake lady. Didn't you know?
Every year, she donates 100 million won
to our Pediatrics department,
saying money should be spent on children
instead of old women like her.
-She was on the You Quiz show.
-Oh!
That's why the director was there earlier,
checking in on her.
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
She's really done so much for charity,
too bad Wait, wait, hang on, mm
Let's think of this
as a way we can give back to her.
We should all make an effort
to watch what we say.
So make sure no one tells her.
-All right.
-Sure.
You're both off now? Wanna grab dinner?
-I have plans already
-Oh! I'd love that.
[chuckles awkwardly]
It's all right, it's okay.
I'm not offended, relax.
[chuckles] Okay.
-Dinner time.
-[Gi-on] Sure.
As for you bon appetit! [chuckles]
-[both chuckle]
-Oh, right.
-Professor, have a good night.
-Thank you.
[Do-won] Plain pork ribs.
[upbeat music playing]
Marinated beef.
Pork belly.
Enjoy, everyone.
Finding a day when no one was on call
was pretty hard.
[all] Bon appetit!
Doctor, you're friends with Dr. Park
in EM, right?
Yeah, sort of.
[Jae-il] Could you talk to him?
EM's stressing me so much
that I think my hair's falling out.
I mean, they call when
a woman has stomach pain
without even checking her properly.
Why call us when she has cholecystitis?
-I guess he wants us to check things.
-Mm.
No, they say, "We've called,
come and take the patient off our hands,
whoever you are."
No wonder people refer to them
as a call center.
-Could you also talk to Pediatrics?
-Why would I wanna do that?
They always get annoyed, whether you
call them in advance or last-minute.
And they freak out
over the tiniest things.
They're always being super childish.
Just like their name suggests.
Many of them aren't like that, though.
What do you mean "many"?
Barely anyone's in Pediatrics.
[Yi-young] Don't get me started
on Anesthesia.
They think they're in charge
'cause they work with the brain.
They have such big egos.
I mean, do they think they own the ORs?
What about us in OB-GYN, though?
We charge into ORs,
not taking no for an answer,
and weaponize babies to get what we want.
That's why everyone calls us
the Yulje thugs.
They despise us just as much.
Anyway, it's not like
they ever ask us for favors.
If we start fights, it only hurts us
since we're the ones asking for help.
Try to get along with them.
[Jae-il sighs]
Anyway, let's enjoy the meal.
No shop talk.
-Okay.
-Okay.
["Sunny Day" by ANYUJIN playing]
[Jae-il] Oh, I'm so full.
Wow, that was a lot.
-Aw, thank you.
-Thank you.
-Thank you for dinner!
-See you guys tomorrow.
-Thank you.
-Good night.
See you tomorrow.
-Good night.
-Bye-bye!
[Sa-bi] I'm so stuffed.
-See ya.
-[Jae-il] Bye.
[Nam-kyung] See ya!
Oh.
-Weren't you going back to the hospital?
-No, I'm heading home.
Then why'd you go that way?
What?
Oh, I thought it was that way.
Or that way.
Ah, I see.
You thought they'd find it weird?
They'd just assume
we were going the same way.
They're not as interested in us
as you might think.
[chuckles] You're the one who insisted
I keep it a secret from them, aren't you?
I was?
Anyway, why are you on this street
instead of the main road?
This is the quickest way back.
But this street's so deserted.
It's dark this time of night.
Isn't it a little dangerous?
I mean, what if there's
some weird guy lurking around here?
I'd scare the hell outta him.
I'd punch him right in the face.
[chuckles]
So, you really are a thug.
They were right.
Were you, like, in a boxing club
in high school or something?
[Yi-young] What do you mean?
[Do-won] Bet you packed quite the punch.
[Yi-young chuckles] Whatever.
[amusing music playing]
-Ah.
-Mm!
-Is it really that good?
-Mm.
When it comes to crab,
nowhere else comes close.
I'll get you more next time.
I went too late today,
they only had two left.
Mm. Yeah, I gotta replenish myself.
I realized how run-down I was
when I got my eggs harvested.
[sniffs] It was really rough
coming down with a cold
while I was getting my injections.
I've gotta be sure to eat well,
and boost my health up
before I give it another shot.
I thought that was the last time.
-You said you were done.
-No, I didn't.
I just said I was gonna accept
however many embryos we got.
I didn't expect to get no embryos at all.
So that doesn't count.
-Gosh, you were bawling your eyes out.
-Me?
When? I didn't cry.
-Mm. [slurps]
-[sighs]
I think it's going well this time.
I can just feel it. [chuckles]
[door unlocks, chimes]
Huh? She's home already?
-Hide it.
-Right.
-The crab-monster's here. Quick.
-Okay.
-We're back.
-[Do-won] Hello.
You came home together.
Yeah, we went out for dinner.
Oh, not just the two of us.
With all the R1s.
[Seung-won] Hey, we didn't say anything.
I was just wondering
what we'd missed out on.
-We had pork ribs.
-I'm gonna go wash up.
-Sure.
-Okay.
Hey, Joo-young.
[suspenseful music playing]
What's that?
What's what?
-What kind of puny dinner is this?
-Huh?
-Oh.
-[both chuckle awkwardly]
Oh, it's seaweed.
It's delicious!
It totally fills me up. Really, look.
Don't you think you should eat better?
-Seung-won, wake me up tomorrow.
-Okay, will do. Night.
Oh, whoops.
[both chuckle]
We got away with it. [chuckles]
[sucking]
[sighs]
[sucking]
[footsteps approaching]
[eerie music playing]
[sighs]
[sucking]
How'd you know there was crab?
[sucks]
[Yi-young] Notice the drop of soy sauce
next to the seaweed?
Lighter in color than brewed soy sauce,
but more aromatic than soup soy sauce.
What could it be but crab legs?
[chuckles]
You know, Seung-won
bought it for Joo-young.
He probably waited in line
to get it from her favorite place.
I know. I'm only eating a little bit.
[chuckles]
Is that really worth the bother?
I'm almost done, so, don't worry.
I'm pretty full.
Why aren't you in bed?
I have a paper to read.
Jeez, how many do you gotta read?
You were up all night yesterday
and the night before.
I took catnaps in the office.
[tuts, sucking]
There's nothing left in there.
Stop that. I'll take you out
for crab sometime.
Really?
Not Joo-young. Just me.
Sounds good.
[lively music playing]
Can't wait.
How about Friday evening?
-Okay.
-Yes!
-No, I can't.
-Why not?
Why can't you?
I forgot I'm going somewhere.
[scoffs, tuts]
[mouse clicking]
Dr. Ku, your vacation
starts tomorrow, right?
-Three days, was it?
-Yes, Professor.
You should take more time.
You've been working so much,
and you've had lots of work
because of that paper.
Huh? What do you
You should rest up.
I can make sure no one bothers you.
Okay. Thank you.
[pants] Do-won,
you're off starting tomorrow?
-Really?
-Yes, Professor.
Then, before you take off, would you
help me with a few little things?
Sure thing, Professor.
First of all, take a look at my symposium
presentation, the materials for my paper,
and the plan for Professor Im Dong-ju's
retirement ceremony.
[sighs] I can't trust the juniors.
They'll mess everything up.
[Do-won] No problem.
Oh, and, later this afternoon,
I have two surgeries scheduled.
-I was already planning on scrubbing in.
-[chuckles]
Once you're gone, I won't call you.
I promise to leave you alone.
-Okay then.
-Sure.
Seriously, do they even want you
to go on vacation or not?
[sighs] I heard a rumor that
you're going on vacation, Chief.
-Yes, Professor.
-Hmm. Are you busy today?
No, I'm not busy.
-You're not?
-No.
[sighs]
JONGNO YULJE MEDICAL CENTER
Did Professor Jo scold you
about the surgical note?
Yeah.
Oh, gosh.
Listen, if it's recorded as benign
in the surgical note,
-document the weight of the uterus.
-Oh.
In the diagram, indicate the direction
of uterine extraction by using an arrow.
Ah.
[Do-won] Hm.
Oh. Also, remind the professor
about tomorrow's first surgery,
and most importantly, book Pathology
for tomorrow's final surgery,
since we're sending a frozen biopsy.
Yep, I won't forget.
You're scrubbing in
for tomorrow's surgery?
Mm-mm, I'm not here, I'm on vacation.
[gasps] That's right.
Oh, so where are you going?
Taiwan. I'm stoked.
-Wait, what's with this?
-The large font?
I changed it for the pancake lady
so she could read it better.
The Pyeongnam pancake lady?
I thought the original font
was too small for her.
Now, she won't have a hard time.
Whoa.
Also, she has no idea
about her cancer diagnosis.
Her son told us not to tell her.
So by making the text larger, she didn't
have time to read through it all.
Whoa!
Also, we told everyone
not to say anything.
It's just the new intern,
I think he's a bit accident-prone.
Dr. Tak Gi-on, right? Is he doing okay?
Mm, I guess.
Only cause of my guidance.
Let's just say I'm the reason why
he's trying harder.
-[chuckles]
-Whoa! [chuckling]
-Dr. Pyo.
-Yes?
I think you need to come with me.
[Nam-kyung] Now?
[whimsical music playing]
[chuckles hesitantly]
-Give me a moment.
-Sure.
Step outside.
Dr. Tak,
what's with the stars on her belly?
Why would you do that?
Sorry?
Oh, then how should I
If you applied it vertically like this
right across the wound,
don't you think that would make
more sense?
Ah
I'm sorry, Doctor.
I was trying to make sure no water
would get in when she showers.
It's just,
you can't even remove Hemovacs or PICCs
properly, so I have to jump in.
I have a lot on my plate as is.
You should be able to do this on your own.
I'm sorry, Doctor.
Next time, I trust you can do this?
Good.
-Ma'am?
-[patient] Yes?
[Nam-kyung] We're gonna have to reapply
this tape. Sorry about that.
-[patient] Reapply these?
-[Nam-kyung] Mm. Yes.
Please make sure not to get water
in your wounds when you shower.
On your next visit,
we'll make sure everything's healing
and redress your wounds again.
Okay.
-Hello.
-Hello.
We've expedited your discharge procedure,
as you requested.
-You can catch the early train.
-[patient] Thank you.
Excuse me, Professor.
I'm sorry. Is this all right?
I'm worried the tape's gonna fall off.
Oh, you don't have to worry.
I applied it properly.
It's just that the male doctor here did
a very thorough job the first time,
but the way this doctor's redone it
makes me nervous.
Mind if I have a look?
Let's see what we have here.
Mm, it's good.
-She's done a good job.
-Oh, really?
I'm impressed.
[chuckles]
I wonder what an amazing job
this other doctor must've done
for you to say it was even better?
Oh, the way he applied the tape,
it just looked completely watertight.
You should've just left it that way.
-Oh, no, I didn't Actually
-Hey, it's okay. It's all right.
-There's no need to be modest about it.
-Huh?
-Oh.
-[Jae-hui] Good work.
Oh. Thank you.
-Gosh, now I'm curious.
-[chuckles hesitantly]
[indistinct chatter]
-[pa chimes]
-[indistinct announcement over pa]
-What's up?
-Oh, you scared me.
I'm getting some cash. You?
-I had installment savings.
-Savings?
-Yes. It's matured, so I'm terminating it.
-You are?
Dang, you're so responsible.
You never know when you'll need some cash.
You could move or go on a trip.
You know, gotta save for a rainy day.
[buttons beeping]
It's not that I don't know that.
I just can't do it.
-You don't have savings?
-I never have enough money.
Wow, I didn't know some people
were so irresponsible.
[ATM whirring]
-I do something similar, though.
-What's that?
Lotto. There's a lucky spot near me.
Eight winning tickets from there.
[sighs]
[cell phones ringing]
[both] Oh.
The patient must be here.
-Yes, Doctor.
-Yes.
-I'm on my way, Doctor.
-I'll be right there. Got it.
Ten centimeters to the left
and five to the right should do it.
-[babies crying]
-It's still a no.
Do you think this is a parking lot?
If we shift them just a little,
there'll be enough space to fit one more.
But there's no one to look after the baby.
If we put another newborn,
who's gonna help it?
We can't push a baby back into its mom,
so we need to push this in.
Listen, we're already at our bed limit.
We had three sets of twins
yesterday, remember?
Of course I do.
2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., and 1:00 a.m.
Yes, that's right.
And for Obstetrics, that's three.
For us here,
it's an increase of six total.
It's not that we don't want to take
the baby, it's that we're really
-[baby cries loudly]
-Ooh, just a minute, okay?
You'll get fed soon.
Aw, you're so cute. We're short-staffed,
don't you know? Haven't you seen the news?
In Pediatrics, we get no applicants
or R1s, and the staff always quits.
So I'm on my regular shift, on-call,
and a double all in one.
-I haven't slept in 36 hours.
-I do sympathize with your difficulties.
But, please, stop telling me about
how hard Pediatrics has it.
Anyway, I'm telling you it's not possible.
-I can't allow it.
-I can't, either.
Professor Seo Jung-min said that
the patient can't be transferred.
[sighs] Are you gonna feed the baby
once it's born?
Clean them, hold them, put clothes on it?
[sighs] Who's gonna do it?
Are you gonna rock it to sleep?
Is that really all I have to do?
If I feed them, can I put the bassinet in?
-I said no.
-[cell phone ringing]
Hello, Park Moo-Kang speaking.
Hui-yul's vomiting? I'll be right there.
Oh. Don't move anything, you got that?
Don't you dare put that bassinet in.
[dramatic music playing]
[line rings]
Yi-young, I've got a spot.
[Yi-young] Got it.
Oh!
[Dong-ho] We don't have a room.
I know you don't.
But we need a room. It's really urgent.
[Dong-ho] I'm sure it is.
To open up an OR, we have to
push back all the other surgeries.
We got a lot complaints because
you did the same thing yesterday.
Just this once, please.
We really need to do this C-section.
You must've seen on the way here.
There are no rooms and no staff.
The surgery itself is not possible.
So, you're saying there's
absolutely no way, then?
Yeah.
I'll tell the patient she can't
have surgery due to a lack of Anesthesia,
and she should try another hospital.
What What did you just say?
Are you threatening me?
Or how about,
I tell her to hold her baby inside
until Anesthesia gives us
an available room?
Wow, you are a piece of work. Seriously.
I'm not really in a position
to worry about anyone else.
I really need a room, so give it to me.
[sighs]
-[line rings]
-[scoffs]
Sang-hyeon.
Can you push back the OS surgery?
Look, just grovel to them.
That one isn't an emergency.
Yep.
Just by an hour.
What do you think? Obstetrics.
Thank you.
[uplifting music playing]
[line rings]
Professor, a room just opened up.
I'll transfer the patient now.
[indistinct announcement over pa]
Doctor, the obstetric patient's here.
-She's over there. I'll be with you soon.
-Thanks.
[winces]
-Call Neurosurgery.
-Yep.
I'll disinfect your wound.
It'll sting a little.
[sighs] Her fever's pretty bad.
Doctor, do we have
her CBC and CRP results?
Oh.
[sighs] We don't have them.
What about her UA?
We were gonna get it,
but the patient said she couldn't pee,
so we couldn't.
Oh. So you called us over here,
without doing any tests first.
-[laughs sarcastically]
-[scoffs]
Dr. Um, I'm sorry, but, uh, could you
transfer the patient to delivery,
and run the tests over there maybe?
Other OB-GYN doctors agree
to do that when we're busy.
See, we have a lot of patients,
and we're at full capacity.
I mean, look around.
[Jae-il] Huh.
It's the same as our delivery unit.
The labor room is absolutely
filled to the brim, you know.
Oh, I see. [sighs]
Come on, help me out here, please?
[inhales, sighs]
Is this gonna work? [clicks tongue]
I'm sorry. We're really busy too.
Please do a urinalysis and blood tests
for CBC, CRP, PCT, electro,
OTPT, BUN, and creatinine.
If you could also do an appendix sono,
I will make sure to transfer the patient
with precision and speed.
Oh, right.
Okay.
So, call me once
you've completed the tests.
Thanks so much.
ER CT, X-RAY ROOM
Hmm.
He's really wised up, huh?
[sighs] It didn't work.
Man, he's really changed, hasn't he?
-Nurse, I'm gonna order some blood tests.
-[nurse] Sure.
-[Jae-il] Looks good.
-[Nam-kyung] Looks delicious!
[Yi-young] Ooh, looks yummy.
Let's dig in. Guys, let's dig in.
-Bon appétit, everyone.
-[all] Bon appétit.
[upbeat music playing]
Mm.
So glad they're boneless.
Much easier to eat.
The patient gifted us this,
saying how grateful she was
for not having to transfer.
[Jae-il] Mm! It's great!
Nothing like chicken, huh?
Hey, why's everyone in such a good mood?
We're still at work,
and it's already 11:30.
Because I socked it to EM today.
I turned those jerks
into boneless chickens.
Oh, good job. People think we're
dumb enough to put up with their crap.
Exactly. I won't bite my tongue.
That'll just make it sore. No more!
Listen, don't put up with it,
any of you. Watch out!
Exactly. Counting to ten before you speak
is just wasting your time.
No more of that.
What's going on here? You three are
actually on the same page for once.
Is this, like,
"United we stand, divided we fall.
One team, one dream"?
-Aren't you gonna answer?
-[knock on door]
Guys, make sure all surgical patients
are cleared,
and keep an eye on Miss An in MFICU
for contractions,
since it looks like
she'll be giving birth soon.
-[Jae-il] Will do.
-Got it.
Why are you still here, anyway?
Isn't your flight in the morning?
All I need to do is grab my bag and go.
See you guys later.
Oh. Ah!
Don't you dare call me
about dumb stuff. Okay?
No "Sorry, but can I just ask you
one thing?" Especially you, Um Jae-il.
-Don't do that. I won't stand for it.
-Hey, come on.
You're only gonna be away
for three days, it's not that long.
What do you take me for?
We're not as helpless as you think we are.
You don't have to worry.
Have a good trip.
Don't forget to bring back gifts.
All right, I'll see you next week.
-[Jae-il] Have a nice trip!
-[Sa-bi] Have a fun trip!
JONGNO YULJE MEDICAL CENTER
[Sa-bi] Every time I ask them a question,
they tell me to ask the chief.
I'm the one who messed up.
But they're blaming the Chief,
and they want me to go get him.
How many times do we have to say
Do-won's not here?
[slams wall] And the embarrassing thing
is that he's only been gone
for less than a day.
[all sigh]
[cell phone chimes]
Oh.
[sighs] Everyone asks for the Chief,
but not this guy.
-Who?
-[Nam-kyung] The intern.
I'm afraid to leave him alone.
He's so annoying.
I guess that's how Dr. Ku feels about us.
[all sigh]
I'd better go to him. Later.
OB-GYN 4TH-YEAR RESIDENT LOUNGE
[all sigh]
[Gi-on] Oh,
this is different from that one.
This is a PCA consent form. It says that
"We will use a medication that stops you
from feeling pain when you're hurting."
If you look right here
It must be really painful, even though
you're just removing a small cyst.
[clears throat]
Everyone responds differently,
but since you're on the older side
and could feel a bit more pain,
we want to have the meds ready.
How long do you think
it will take to get the cyst out?
Given the prep time and the anesthesia,
an hour and a half.
Mm. That's much longer than I expected.
Yes, cancer surgeries take a bit of time.
But still, it's quite short,
for a cancer surgery.
Hmm, I see.
Cancer surgery?
Yes.
For who?
For me?
[tense music playing]
If it's cancer surgery,
that means I have cancer.
It's not a cyst, then?
Yes, uh, um,
it's cancer.
[breathing heavily]
That means
all of you knew I had cancer,
and I was the only one
who was kept in the dark?
How could a hospital lie to a patient
like it's nothing?
I'm the one who asked them to,
because I knew you'd refuse otherwise.
Please do the surgery.
The scans show that
it's in the very early stages, so,
the prognosis, I think,
is actually very good.
And the laparoscopies will leave, um,
very small wounds afterward,
which means recovery will be quick.
They also told my sister that she would
be fine, but in the end,
she died in the hospital,
after a lot of pain and suffering.
[sighs] I refuse to waste time like that.
Someone upstairs is telling me
I'm old and I've lived enough.
So old people should just give up? Huh?
Who made that rule?
Is that the law? Is it written in a book?
Get the surgery, Mom. Please?
Let's make more pancakes together
and pay for more children to get well.
This surgery isn't to save you,
it's for all those children.
You're saying no?
Hmm?
Mom!
Your son is right. Please do it.
Mm, have the surgery, ma'am.
Please go through with it.
This is my fault.
I'm so sorry, ma'am. Please.
[sighs]
I never wanted to get this surgery,
and I was so angry you'd all lied to me
that I was going to leave immediately
and go home
[sighs]
but I'll give it some more thought,
just for the doctor here.
Out of gratitude.
Oh. It really was nothing.
No need to mention it.
For telling me the truth.
[whimsical music playing]
If it weren't for your honesty, Doctor,
I would've been dragged to
the operating room
without knowing what I had
or what would be done to me.
What a fool I would've been,
if you hadn't said anything.
Thank you for telling me the truth.
You're the only one I can trust here.
It must've been easy to lie to me,
given that I'm old and ignorant.
-That's not
-We're sorry, ma'am.
I'm sorry, ma'am.
If I do go ahead with the surgery,
will you be with me the whole time?
Yes, I will, ma'am.
-Okay, then, I'll see you in surgery.
-Yes, but, uh
-This surgery consent form
-Oh, right. What's with the font?
Uh, the text was too small,
so I enlarged it.
That way she wouldn't have difficulty
reading it.
Oh. Has she looked it over?
-My mom actually doesn't know how to read.
-Huh?
I'm certain I told you that before,
but I guess you still gave this to her.
Oh
Um, I just need her to sign here, right?
Ah. Uh, this is just for you
to look over it in advance, sir.
When we need you to sign it,
we'll walk you through it once more.
-How does that sound?
-Oh, I see. Thank you both.
-[Gi-on] Yes.
-[sighs]
-I eat it too, when I'm at home.
-Oh, gosh.
Yes. [chuckles]
[Nam-kyung] Some people are just lucky.
If you're lucky, things always work out,
no matter what you do.
The timing couldn't have been
more perfect for him. Huh?
-[chuckles]
-[indistinct chatter on video]
You see? When you're on call,
your phone doesn't ring once.
When I was on call,
it wouldn't stop ringing.
Hey, go home if you're just gonna whine.
Or if not, why not cover my shift for me?
[sighs] I can't go home, because
both of Professor Ryu's surgeries
are backed up due to emergency operations.
Life must really suck,
when you're unlucky.
-Ugh, you
-[chuckles]
Ugh, I could just
THURSDAY, JULY 20
[peppy music playing]
Ah.
I'm going in to deliver
Miss Jin's baby now.
Make sure you keep an eye
on the ward and the ER.
All right.
[telephone ringing]
Hello. OB-GYN.
Oh, okay, I'll be right there.
She's not one of our patients.
She has ruptured membranes.
[system beeps]
Excuse me
Your amniotic membrane ruptured.
Your, uh, water broke. You know?
[sighs] What's your name?
[in Russian] I don't speak English
and don't speak Korean well either.
Am I okay?
[in English] What's she saying?
Name. What's your [enunciates] name?
Name. Margarita Kalashnikova.
Margarita Kalashnikova.
Margarita Margarita?
Two. Two.
-Two.
-Two? Twins?
Twins? Really? There's only one.
She's saying it's twins.
Her second baby. The first was
a C-section, this is her second.
Ah. Now, I understand. Second baby.
Okay, okay. Spasiba.
Professor, an obstetric
patient in the ER needs surgery.
She's not a patient of ours,
but she has ROM.
She's in active labor, and based
on pelvic, she's 1.5 and 50.
The ultrasound shows the baby
is breeching. I think she needs surgery.
Right, I'm in a delivery,
but I'll be done soon.
Prep for surgery. I'll wrap up here
and then come over.
All right.
[baby crying]
Hold on.
The bleeding is bad.
[Jae-hui] Hmm. Look at our intern here,
assisting late into the night,
keeping his promise to the patient.
It's no problem, sir.
Everyone keeps saying
how extraordinarily capable you are,
not to mention, also kind.
Gi-on, you're all everyone's
talking about.
[doctor] Oh! Professor,
you've remembered his name.
[Jae-hui] Huh?
Oh, yes, that name is etched in my heart.
[Nam-kyung chuckles]
[blows]
[Jae-hui] It's not easy to get compliments
as an intern.
It's very rare.
-Right, Doctor?
-Sorry?
That's right. Yes. Why, of course.
Thank you.
[Jae-hui] In any case,
hope to see you around.
Looking forward to working with you.
-Could we have a bit of fanning?
-Sorry?
-Fanning.
-Ah, yes.
[chuckles]
For the record,
I don't usually sweat this much.
but it's very warm today.
-[Jae-hui] Huh?
-[Nam-kyung pants]
Oh, Doctor, that's not what I meant.
I need you to fan the wound.
[chuckles] Where I applied the glue.
Oh! Oh, here, on the wound. Here, right.
-[Jae-hui] Give me a second. Sorry.
-Here. Yes.
[both chuckle]
[Jae-hui chuckling] Wow.
I didn't realize our resident here
was so funny.
-[chuckles]
-Right? See?
Hey, OB-GYN is so much fun, isn't it?
[Gi-on] Yes, it sure is, Doctor.
[Jae-hui chuckles] This is
such a happy workplace, don't you think?
[Nam-kyung] Oh, yes, a very happy place.
[Jae-hui chuckling]
Oh, what's wrong with me?
Gosh, why is it so hot lately?
[chuckles] You did great,
despite the heat.
-Goodbye, thank you.
-Thank you.
[snickers]
Dr. Tak.
-[sighs nervously]
-What's funny?
Don't laugh!
AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY

-[line ringing]
-[sighs]
Why isn't Anesthesia answering?
Oh, Doctor, it's urgent.
An obstetric patient needs surgery.
Is she fasted? Fasted
Did you dinner? Eat dinner?
[in Russian] The hospital I usually go to
told me everything was fine.
[in English] I will check and get back
to you. In the meantime, could you book

HAM DONG-HO
[huffs]
[in Russian] I can't even make phone calls
because I lost my phone.
Have you seen my cell phone?
[in English] Did you eat anything? Uh
Food.
Oh, my phone,
there's a translator on my phone.
-[yelps, gasps]
-Huh?
-[panting]
-Your belly? Are you in pain?
Oh! Uh
Don't worry, okay?
[tense music playing]
Okay.
Everything's okay. Don't worry.
Don't worry.
-Excuse me.
-[panting]
-[whimpers]
-What?
What? What's this?
-Why is this out?
-[curtain opens]
When are we transferring her?
-Right now.
-Sorry?
Now! The baby's foot. The foot!
The baby's foot is hanging out right now!
-Nurse, over here!
-[nurse] Yes?
[in Russian] Has something happened to
my baby? He's not coming now, is he?
[in English] Listen,
we're going into surgery now.
Uh, but everything's okay.
Baby's okay. Don't worry.
Baby's foot's out. We gotta transfer her.
Please, call her emergency contact
to get her medical history for us.
Sure.
-I'm calling Anesthesia.
-Great. Thank you so much.
[lines ringing]
Hey, it's me. Get me an OR.
Oh, just get it first. Yeah, Obstetrics.
-Professor, you have to come now.
-Yes, now.
[Yi-young] The baby's foot's hanging out!
I'm suturing my patient now.
She has a rectal tear
in addition to vaginal damage.
I'm gonna be a while.
-What? What do I do, then?
-Is no one else available?
Then call the Gynecology professor
on call. Tell them I requested it.
Professor Ryu's in emergency surgery.
What do I do now?
In that case, start prepping for surgery.
Someone from GS will take over here.
If you run out of time while you're still
prepping, start the GA and open her up.
All right.
What?
Start opening her up.
I'll be with you soon.
Please call the GS professor
who's on-call.
And see if Gi-sun or Eun-won
can come and take over.
[nurse] Yep.
-[Margarita yelps]
-Got a room?
[Dong-ho] Yes. Caregivers and nurses
came to clean up.
-I pushed back the appendicitis surgery.
-Thank you, Doctor.
Does the patient have
any underlying conditions? Meds?
-I don't know.
-Has she fasted?
-[Yi-young] I don't know.
-What does she weigh?
-You know her name?
-[Yi-young] It's long. I can't remember.
-It's okay. Don't worry.
-[yelps]
I'm a famous doctor.
-Don't worry.
-Isn't that Dr. Oh from OB-GYN?
Yeah, I think it is.
[sighs] Given the speed she's moving at,
it must be serious.
Oh, no, what is it now?
[strains]
[Dong-ho] Let me know when you're ready.
Anesthesia's good to go.
Dr. Oh, you can't start crying.
Any tears, and you have to get changed
and start all over. Got it?
[tearfully] Yes, Doctor.
-If you end up taking the baby out
-I can't do that.
Don't worry, you'll be fine.
[Moo-kang] How long's
the baby's foot been out?
[Jun-suk] We noticed it ten minutes ago.
Patient's name is Margarita Kalashnikova.
She's at 37 weeks. She came to the ER
in her first trimester,
but she was having issues.
We're in touch with her husband. He's on
his way. We've gotten his verbal consent.
JONGNO YULJE MEDICAL CENTER
All right, thanks.
See if you can find someone to assist.
[Dong-ho, in Russian]
It's okay. Husband come.
[in English] Okay?
[sighs] Okay.
-[Moo-kang] I think we've to open her up.
-I can't. I've never done it.
If the leg loses circulation,
there'll be complications.
[whines]
[Jun-suk] We're looking for someone
who can come.
In the meantime, I'll assist.
It's okay if the baby gets exposed
to the anesthetic. So take your time.
I'll take care of the baby once it's out.
[Dong-ho] I'll monitor
the patient carefully.
Keep your cool. We're here.
We're with you.
[Yi-young sighs]
[Dong-ho] When Dr. Oh's makes the
incision, push down on the belly slightly.
All right.

-I've already given NICU a heads-up.
Great, thank you.
[Do-won] Pull.
Yes.
I'm in the OB-GYN on-call room,
but no one's here.
Okay, call me back.
Yep.
Oh, man, I don't think anyone's here.
[tsks]
[sighs]
[groans] That sucks
for Obstetrics. [groans]
[gasps]
Huh?
This isn't Taiwan, is it?
[groans] There goes
my plane ticket. [groans]
[grunts]
It's OB-GYN.
Baby coming out now.
[squelching]
[Yi-young sighs]
[nurse] Time, 10:46. Sex, male.
["Forever" by D.O. playing]
[Do-won] Quick, take the baby.
[Moo-kang] Apply the sensors
and wipe the baby.
[Jun-suk] Yep.
[Moo-kang] Cry, kiddo.
Come on, cry!
JONGNO YULJE MEDICAL CENTER
Heart rate's below 100,
so we'll start PPV.
-Turn on oxygen.
-Right.
Yi-young, you all right?
-[both] Professor.
-Did you get the baby out?
Yes.
-Patient's vitals okay?
-[Dong-ho] Yes.
Great, good job. Take a break.
Thank you, Professor.
[Jung-min] Everything okay?
Swap with me, Yi-young.
Okay.
[Do-won] Baby's out,
contractions are good.
Good work.
[heart machine beeping]
[Moo-kang] Heart rate?
[Jun-suk] It's below 100.
-Stimulate the baby more.
-Yep.
[Moo-kang] Come on, baby, cry. Please.
Oh
[tense music playing]
[crying]
[uplifting music playing]
[sighs in relief]
[sighs]
[sighs]
[panting]
[Jung-min] The baby okay?
[Moo-kang] Yes, the Apgar score is eight,
saturation is fine, and pulse is over 100.
We'll transfer him to the NICU now.
[Moo-kang] Good job.
Thanks, everyone.
[Moo-kang]
You did a great job too.
[crying]
[Jung-min] Oh Yi-young, you did well.
-You did really well.
-Thank you, Professor.
The patient's vitals are fine.
Dong-ho, nice job.
Thank you.
["Amateur" by Mido and Falasol playing]
[Jung-min] Oh Yi-young's
been contaminated.
Well, you're contaminated now,
so leave hand in hand and take a break.
[Yi-young exclaims]
[machine beeping steadily]
OB-GYN
[cell phone ringing]
[gasps]
[tearfully] Hey, Gi-dongdong.
Huh?
Where are you right now?
[Gi-dong] Nam-kyung.
It's really you.
Hi, Professor.
Uh, the patient has arrived at the ER.
Based on the CT, the EDH is right
temporal lobe, damage is extensive.
The patient's in a stupor, and left-side
motor function is impaired at grade three.
I'll have him transferred to the OR.
Yep.
-Excuse me, Doctor.
-Oh!
OB-GYN. That right?
Yes, I'm Pyo Nam-kyung, from OB-GYN.
I have a favor to ask. It's regarding
a certain patient if that's all right.
Um, sure.
I was informed about a patient
who fell down the stairs.
-Oh, Miss Cho?
-Yes.
I wanted to find out her test results.
Uh, give me one sec.
Hmm.
Well, based on the CT scan, there's
no cerebral hemorrhage or skull fracture.
Oh.
Even so, since the fall was pretty bad,
she should take it easy for about a week
and come back immediately
if she notices anything unusual.
Right. Thank you so much.
-She's not a Gynecology patient, right?
-Sorry?
There weren't any OB-GYN records
on her chart.
Ah. No.
No, she's not.
She's my boyfriend's mother.
Oh, I see. The son. He brought her in?
-Yes.
-Gosh.
He seemed really shaken up over it.
My resident did explain
all the details to him,
but you could go over them again.
-I will. Thanks again.
-Mm-hmm.
-[resident] Professor.
-Hmm?
We have the CT angio for Mr. Gu Pil-jong.
CHIEF
Yeah, it's an MCA aneurysm rupture.
-Book an OR and prepare for clipping.
-Right.
[Nam-kyung] The CT didn't show
any brain damage or bleeding.
-Her bones are fine too.
-That means there's nothing serious?
She won't have brain problems or anything?
Mm. As far as we can tell,
everything's okay.
Thank God.
Thank you.
I really appreciate it, Nam-kyung.
I'm just glad that she's okay.
You must've been so scared.
[Gi-dong] Yeah.
[sighs]
Are you still angry with me, is that it?
What's there to be mad about?
It's all over.
I'm sorry I ghosted you.
I thought if I started texting you,
I'd end up calling you,
and we'd meet up, and then, you know
Hey, it was just an argument.
Don't be like this.
It's over between us.
I told you that.
You said that next time,
it would be forever.
That was just something I said
in the heat of the moment.
[tsks, inhales sharply]
You see, the truth is,
it was easy for you.
You could break up with me
every single time you got angry.
And that made me sad.
But I put up with it,
because I loved you that much.
I'm sorry.
I knew you went on blind dates every time
we broke up and stopped talking,
and I also knew you were embarrassed
to tell people
that I still don't have any work yet.
But I just ignored it.
Mm, I knew you thought
I wasn't good enough.
I got it.
But then, this time,
when you broke up with me,
for the first time ever, I felt relieved.
Because now I could hate you
instead of me.
But, hey, in the end,
I'm the one who called you, right?
When my mom fell down,
my mind just went blank,
and you were the one I called.
Because you're the first doctor
I thought of.
Still, I probably shouldn't have done it.
I'm sorry.
I won't do it again.
Thank you for today.
[melancholy music playing]
Hey, Gi-dong.
You can still call.
Please call me.
No.
You can call.
If you ever need anything,
whether it's an emergency, or if you
become sick and need a doctor,
you can call me.
We were together seven years.
What? You think you can't ask me
for a tiny favor?
I won't ask to get back together.
I won't ask to stay friends either.
But still, I'll always be there for you.
Now, go. Your mother is still inside.
All right, then. I better go now.
Good luck.
[crying softly]
[crying]
[sobbing]
["Breath" by MINNIE playing]
[sobbing]
What do you want?
-[sniffles]
-[chuckles]
Hey
What's funny?
Is seeing me like this funny to you?
[crying]
I'm sorry.
[sobbing]
This has taken years off my life.
After all this time
in Obstetrics, emergencies
[groans] these things still freak me out.
How do you think it was for us, Professor?
Thank you, Ku Do-won.
You guys saved that baby's life.
Ah.
How's Dr. Oh, is she holding up?
She could use a sedative.
-I'll go check up on her.
-Yeah.
I mean, whoa, despite her attitude,
she's good.
She has a deft touch, and she is fearless.
I know.
Oh, I just remembered.
What are you doing here?
Don't tell me you also missed your flight
'cause you fell asleep?
-Did someone else do that?
-Me, last year.
[chuckling]
[chuckles] I guess
doing that breech C-section last time
helped you out today. Didn't it?
That [chuckles] That wasn't me.
This was my first time.
Really?
Whoa, Ku Do-won. You've come a long way.
Someone must've trained you well! Huh?
It wasn't me.
-You teach yourself?
-No, I almost cried.
As soon as I began opening her up,
I barely held it together under pressure.
Wow, you were calmer than I was.
Gosh, no.
-I had no idea.
-[cell phone ringing]
Yes, Dr. Myeong.
Just make a J-shaped incision
to avoid the fibroid.
Why do you need me there?
See you later.
I'm coming now.
See you later.
[cell phone chimes]
[Yi-young] Could you take me out
for coffee?
[soft music playing]
[rain pattering]
["It's You" by DOKYEOM playing]
I brought you this.
You looked really shaken earlier.
Oh.
Thanks very much.
You did really well.
Yeah, you also did a great job today.
I really appreciate it.
Sure.
Right.
You coming in? It's raining.
Oh. No. I'm actually meeting someone.
Oh, I see. Bye.
Oh. God, I'm sorry.
-Uh, take it.
-No, it's okay.
Take it. You can give it back later.
All right, thanks a lot.
When you return the umbrella
wanna get dinner with me?
["It's You" continues]

[Yi-young] Of course it's tough.
Even when I'm smiling,
on the inside I'm not.
I like him a lot, okay?
More than I was letting on.
-Getting in?
-Actually, we're still talking.
Hey, can I ask you something?
[Jae-il] Asking someone to dinner
is asking them out on a date.
-Who with?
-I think it's a guy.
[Jae-il] He likes her.
-Welcome, ma'am.
-[chuckles] Thanks.
-[Nam-kyung] Mom.
-[woman] Yeah?
[Nam-kyung] I'm serious.
Don't talk about me.
I'm warning you.
Wherever there's dumplings,
there's some Nam-kyung backstory.
-Just have one
-Ugh, Mom!
If you're an R1,
shouldn't you come in a bit earlier?
[Eun-mi] We should be grateful
they even show up.
Hey, why are you Hey!
Excuse me! Over here!
Kim Sa-bi! Hey, Sa-bi!
-[Yi-young] Is it serious?
-It's not malignant, is it?
Help
