Scream (2015) s03e03 Episode Script

The Man Behind the Mask

- YOUNG GHOSTFACE: I got you, bruh.
- I had a brother named Marcus, and we went out on Halloween when we was kids.
- DEION: I left my twin brother to die.
- MARCUS: Help me! DEION: Now somebody's wearing his costume.
KYM: So, somebody has it out for Deion.
What in the hell does that have to do with the rest of us? Y'all wanna party tonight? I got a good feeling you're gonna like this one.
[GRUNTING.]
"Show me your insides?" What does that mean? We're in a horror movie.
BETH: We're being hunted by a killer here.
Killers have codes and horror has rules.
What if Marcus didn't die that night? What if he has come back for revenge? Oh! - Hey.
- Sorry.
[SIGHS.]
Girl, you scared the crap out of me.
- I'm sorry.
- What's up? I didn't mean to drop a bomb on you about Marcus, but maybe you should wait to go after him.
Look, Liv, I'm not gonna sit around and watch those other people get hurt by my own brother.
I gotta handle this now.
No, you don't have to do this on your own.
Please, Deion, let me help.
That's the only reason why you came after me? No, it's That's not the only reason.
[BIRDS CHIRPING.]
You know, I've been thinking.
Maybe you're right.
Maybe I don't gotta do this all by myself.
Liv? Liv? [GASPS.]
Deion.
Hey, no, no, no, no.
What the? Liv, look at me.
Hey, baby, look.
Please, just breathe for me.
God damn it! I'm gonna go get help, I'm gonna go get help.
Wait, I'll go get somebody.
[SPUTTERING BREATH.]
[SCREAMS.]
[SCREAMS.]
Marcus? You were supposed to come back for me, D.
So I came back for you instead.
[DEION SCREAMS.]
Now let's see who you really are on the inside.
- [GRUNTS.]
- [SCREAMING.]
- Marcus! - [LAUGHING.]
Marcus! [SCREAMING.]
[GASPING, SHOUTING.]
[DISTANT SIREN WAILING.]
- Rough night? - Bad dream.
How did you sleep? Oh, you know, Halloween.
Only good thing about this day is your mama's cooking.
DEION: Hey! - Oh, thank you, baby.
- [KISSES.]
- What's up, Pop-Pops? - What's up, Deion? - So, Pops, how long you in town? - Not long enough.
Dispatch got me rolling out in the morning.
Don't worry, I'll be back in time for your big game.
Well, at least you're here for today, Earl.
Well, well, look who's back.
EARL: Didn't see you there, Jay.
What's up with you, son? Same ol'.
Look, I'm sorry I didn't see you the last time I was here.
I was hoping that maybe we can find some time to catch up.
Can't right now.
Got places to be.
You know what today is.
Ain't no place you should be but here with family.
Then I guess the apple don't fall far from the tree, Earl.
- SHERRY: Jay.
Jay, please.
- Let him go.
SHERRY: Please.
Please.
Hey.
Hey, why you gotta talk to Pops like that? - All's he wanted to do was talk.
- Don't act like he care for me, D.
Only reason why he here is because Halloween makes y'all crazy.
Always setting out Marcus' favorite breakfast, like some eggs supposed to bring him back from the dead.
Man, you know that's not what it is.
We never got to say goodbye to him.
The police never gave us no body to bury.
It's been years.
Wake up.
Ain't no body left to find.
Look, all's I'm saying is, man, you know what that night did to us.
What about what it did to my moms? Until Marcus disappeared, she never even knew y'all existed.
And then Pops wanna choose this little side family over his real one? [SCOFFS.]
That broke her.
Broke her in a way I couldn't fix.
Look, I ain't trying to make excuses for that, all right? Like it or not, I'm the only brother you got now.
[CELL PHONE BUZZING.]
Marcus? Marcus, man, is this you? GHOSTFACE: If I told you now, it would spoil the big twist.
Where's the fun in that? Look, it won't be fun when I rip that mask off your face and shove it up your ass.
Look at you showing some spine.
Too bad Shane didn't last night.
What are you talking about? After Mr.
Fade showed everyone who he really was, I pumped him full of drugs.
Now he's dead, like all your friends will be when I'm done.
Why the hell are you even doing this, man? I thought it was me you wanted.
What I want is to find out who Deion Elliot really is, about what happened on that Halloween night.
Yeah, me, too.
Then go back to the scene of the crime, the place where you abandoned your brother, tonight.
And if I don't? Trick or treat, Deion.
Your choice.
- [HIP-HOP MUSIC PLAYING.]
- [CHATTER.]
AMIR: Hey.
It's Halloween.
The one day a year you get to be anything you wanna be, and you chose to dress up as some meathead jock? Of course not.
Most jocks treat me like crap, but not Deion.
- I feel like he has my back.
- In my personal experience, the only person people ever look out for is themselves.
That's sad.
Not as sad as you going full-on stalker on Deion.
I'm not a stalker.
Well, that's exactly what a stalker would say.
Hey, wait up.
- Did you hear about Shane? - What about him? Liv just told me.
He's dead.
We're guessing Ghostface got him.
Well, then I guess Mr.
Fade got faded.
I'm sorry.
I know you guys were Actually, I have no idea what you guys were.
What I had with Shane was just sex and none of your business.
Whatever it was, if you wanna talk about it I don't.
And why do you even care anyways? Last night, I offered you a no-strings hookup, and you passed.
And now you wanna offer me a shoulder to cry on? Come on, Amir.
Nobody's that nice.
Last night, I told you I wanted to be friends, Beth.
I meant that.
This is a horror movie, not a Rom-com, so don't get any weird ideas.
- Besides, you barely even know me.
- Not for lack of trying.
Okay, well, you wanna do something for me? Stop trying.
- Hey, Liv.
Hey, you got a sec? - Deion.
I've got some bad news.
Oh, yeah, yeah, about Shane.
I heard.
It's awful.
My dad said the cops found him overdosed in an alley.
But it's gotta be Ghostface.
Or should I say Marcus? Look, nobody wants to know if Marcus is still alive more than me.
But we still don't know who's behind that mask.
Then shouldn't we try and find out before he kills another one of us? Yeah, but I gotta do something first.
I got a family thing after school.
I hate to ask, but can I use your car? [SCHOOL BELL RINGS.]
No, you know what, you're right.
- I'm sorry.
Thanks a lot.
- Hey, wait.
My dad will kill me if something happens to it.
All right? And he's got a gun.
No scratches, I promise.
Thank you.
I don't know, Mrs.
Obama, should we really be hosting a party tonight after what happened to Shane? Tonight's Halloween, Manny.
When else are we supposed to have it? How about when we're not being stalked by a homicidal maniac? I had to fight to convince Principal Wilson it'd be safer for the parents to bring their kids here to trick or treat instead of out on the streets.
Besides, killer'd be a fool to come at us with half the hood here.
Didn't stop him at Shane's party, or the apartment, or last night.
Okay, let's just call this what it is.
You're just trying to avoid a fight, as usual.
No.
What I'm trying to avoid is the two of us ending up dead.
We a team, right? Ride or die.
Then as long as we've got each other's backs, nothing can tear us apart.
Not even Ghostface.
MRS.
PELL: Alicia Davis? Deion Elliot? Deion? Brad Ernsky? Darin Grant? Erin Mayfield? KYM: What do you mean Deion lied? LIV: He said he needed to borrow my car after school for something.
He already left.
See? - And he's on his way out of town.
- What am I looking at? The GPS my dad had installed to apparently keep tabs on me.
- Where do you think Deion's going? - Looking for Marcus.
That doesn't make sense.
His brother's been dead for years.
I may have convinced him that Marcus is still alive and that he's Ghostface.
Unless Marcus came back as a zombie, there's no way he's Ghostface.
Yeah, but if it really is Marcus under that mask, then Deion's doomed.
In horror, the killer oftentimes tries to take out the main character by luring him to a place of significance on the night of his origin.
Only to be taken out by the hero instead.
I've seen those movies, too, Elvira.
I know how they work.
And like I've told you, this here's a reboot.
- And reboots don't play by your rules.
- Because reboots suck.
Guys, this isn't a movie.
For all we know, Deion could be walking into a real trap.
We've got to get to him before Ghostface does.
All right, no offense, Liv, but you weren't at the school last night.
The rest of us crossed paths with that psycho and it did not go well.
Would've gone better if Deion didn't wait till the last minute to show.
Maybe, but he did show up right when we needed him.
And now he needs us to back him up.
Better odds, at least.
Beth's in, I guess.
Who else? Deion's my boy and all, but I made a promise here tonight.
So, you guys can do what you want, but Manny and I still vote no.
Actually, I don't think any of us should be alone, so I'm in.
Well, then I guess I gotta go, too, to watch after your dumb ass.
Good because you're driving.
Fine.
But if any of y'all spill anything on my seat, I'll kill you myself.
[BELL DINGS.]
- [MEN LAUGHING, WHOOPING.]
- [HORN PLAYING "DIXIE".]
Finished all the goddamn beer.
You gonna buy this time, huh? MAN 1: All right, all right, I'm buying.
MAN 2: None of that cheap stuff either.
MAN 1: You shut up.
You ain't buying it.
MAN: Ring, ring! Engine trouble? Yeah, remote ignition control.
Turns the car on and off.
Comes in real handy when someone steals it.
Well, let me guess.
That's not the reason why you followed me here to the sticks.
Princess here got it in her head you were about to do something stupid, which, clearly, you are.
But only 'cause you think your long-lost brother's trying to kill us.
So we all decided to come back you up.
You told them about Marcus? Don't even, Deion.
This is the second time you've lied to me this week.
- We should give them a minute.
- I don't know, Manuel.
Maybe we should all vote on it first.
- Really, Kym? Pissy much? - Yeah, I am 'cause I have to pee.
Come on.
Seriously, what the hell were you thinking? Look, it's none of your business, okay? Now, please, just go back to the city.
Why? Where are you going? I'm going back to the salvage yard where I left Marcus behind.
It's been years.
What makes you think you're gonna find anything out there now? Ghostface said I would.
Wait, you talked to him? What else did he say? Just that I'd find the truth.
[SCOFFS.]
And you believed him? How do you know he's not planning on murdering you? I don't, which is the reason why I didn't want anybody else coming.
I'm sorry that I lied to you, but if something bad were to happen to you, I don't think I'd forgive myself.
That's sweet and totally pointless because I'm going anyway.
- Oh, Liv, please.
- And besides I'm not gonna let you get yourself killed before you take me on a halfway decent first date.
- Okay.
Fine.
- [HOOD CLOSES.]
Well, what about everybody else? Come on, hurry your ass up in there! Sorry, General Lee, but You know your side lost, right? - Got a real mouth on you, girl.
- And I ain't afraid to use it, boy.
Friendly warning better watch yourself around these parts before it gets you into trouble.
- You better watch yourself with that - Hey, okay.
Okay, we don't need any trouble.
She just needs to pee.
[KYM CLEARS HER THROAT.]
MANNY: Thank you.
[SIGHS.]
Crap.
Sorry, I think I'm short.
AMIR: This should cover it.
- Thought I told you to stop trying.
- Trying to do what? [SIGHS.]
Come on, we both know what you really want from me.
Is it really that hard for you to believe I just wanna be your friend? Everyone's got an angle, Amir, even you.
I don't live my life that way, and I think it's sad that you do.
Well, maybe you should start, 'cause last time I checked, you don't have that many friends either.
At least I'm making a choice.
I can make one, too, then.
I don't wanna be your stupid friend.
- What are you doing? - I'm hitching a ride with you guys.
Yeah, well, wouldn't you rather be in Kym's car with Beth? No, thanks.
Girl's got issues.
Says the dude that's dressed like the dude that he talking to.
[CELL PHONE CHIMES.]
Damn it.
Screw it.
We gotta go.
Now.
- Uh, did they just ditch us? - Huh, that's messed up.
No crap.
We don't even know where they're going.
- Then I guess we better follow them.
- Yeah that's not happening.
KYM: What the hell? [AIR HISSES.]
This is really bad, you guys.
Obviously.
Who even does that? I have my suspicions.
[MEN CHATTERING.]
BETH: Those randos? No, those are just glorified extras.
And the knife, well, it's a classic plot point.
For the last time, reboot, bitch.
And those good ol' boys are about to pay for what they did.
Okay, reboot or not, it doesn't matter.
Manny, we're the secondary characters here, right? - The comic relief, the sidekick - The know-it-all? Call me whatever you want.
Now that we're stranded, we're a bunch of sitting ducks, and that's usually when everything goes wrong for people like us.
Like, how wrong? Well, the longer we're stuck out here, cut off from the others, the more we'll start to slowly unravel until one of us inevitably goes off and does something stupid.
And then, well, I think we both know what happens then, right? Long story short one of us is gonna die.
Hey, which one of you backward bumpkins did it? The hell you talking about? One of you guys slashed my tire, so you gonna pay for it, okay, in cash.
I think you got us confused with someone else.
Now, I suggest you go looking elsewhere before it's too late.
I'm not afraid of you.
MANNY: Kym.
Kym.
We don't need this kind of drama right now.
Let's go, let's go.
They started with us first.
Why you trying to get me to roll over? You should listen to your frilly friend if you know what's good for you.
- [BANGS ON TRUCK.]
- Let's go.
[ENGINE STARTS.]
[HORN PLAYING "DIXIE".]
- Yeah! - Go! GIRL: Trick or treat! [PEOPLE CHATTERING.]
[DEION EXHALES.]
Wait, maybe we should wait for the others? - Ain't no reason.
They ain't coming.
- How do you know that? I slashed Kym's tire.
What? Why? 'Cause we ain't want nobody else getting hurt, including you, Amir.
Maybe one of us should stay by the car just in case we need to make a getaway.
All right, if you see anything suspicious, honk.
I'll honk twice.
Deion, look.
DEION: Whoa.
Hookman's a veteran? Here, says right here.
Luther Thompson, awarded the Purple Heart in Vietnam.
Oh And this wall says he's been keeping tabs on you.
DEION: Whoa.
[CELL PHONE WHOOSHES.]
[AMIR SCREAMING.]
Deion, help! Deion! No! Oh, no, please, no! No! No! Please, Mr.
Hookman, don't kill me.
I don't wanna die.
You think it's funny coming in here wearing that getup? I don't know what you're talking about.
It's just a Halloween costume.
- If you let me go, I'll leave.
Please! - No! You ain't going nowhere.
No! No! [HOOKMAN GROANS.]
Deion Elliot? You got a lot of balls coming out here, especially tonight.
And tonight's the whole reason I'm here.
I wanna know the truth about what happened that Halloween night.
I didn't do anything to that boy.
You hear me? Yeah, I hear you, but why should we believe you? I don't give a damn what you believe.
You all are trespassing on my property.
Now get the hell off! Did you kill Marcus? - Why are you asking me that now? - Because he may be alive.
And we think you might know where to find him.
Is this some kind of sick joke? Sick joke? Man, a fool in a mask is running around killing people 'cause of decisions me and you made.
So, no, it ain't no joke.
Follow me.
I'll take you to him.
- Looks like the bolts are stripped.
- KYM: You think? This is all on you, you know? Me? How is this my fault? We're supposed to be a team.
Ride or die.
But you just left me back there hanging with them rednecks.
Oh, forgive me for trying to avoid getting our asses kicked.
Are you guys seriously arguing about not getting Deliveranced? That's the problem, Manny.
You never wanna fight nobody over nothing.
So I'm just left there doing all the heavy lifting while you sit back and take advantage.
- I take advantage? - Yes.
How many lunch periods have I sacrificed passing out fliers for you? How many classes have I cut to go marching with you? And for what? Name one thing that your little social justice war has actually accomplished.
At least I'm trying to do something.
All you wanna do is GTFO.
Like leaving the hood is gonna solve your problems.
It's gonna solve one problem: it'll get me away from you.
Not soon enough.
I'm warning you, Kym.
Don't push me.
Why not, Manny? It ain't like you gonna push back.
Uh, you guys, this is exactly what I was talking about.
Really, Manny? MANNY: Beth's right.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Where are you going? Kym.
I promised those kids back home a safe Halloween.
And I'm not going back on my word unlike some people.
- Kym, this is a bad idea.
- [ENGINE STARTS.]
A bad idea was coming out here in the first place.
Kym, stop.
LIV: What is this? The last place I saw Marcus.
You said you was gonna take us to him.
Where the hell is he? HOOKMAN: He's right here where I buried him.
I'm sorry, Deion.
But Marcus is dead.
Deion, I don't know what to say.
I'm so sorry.
Yeah, me, too.
Hey, it's been a while since we heard from the others.
I think I'm gonna check in.
You never answered my question.
Look, I know you think that I'm a monster.
Everybody does.
The truth is that what happened to your brother that night was an accident.
Man, the hell it was! You attacked us.
Man, when I came back from the war, I was in a hard place.
And I know the drinking didn't help.
When I ran into you boys, a couple of shadows just creeping across my land, my mind went back to a bad place.
I didn't know what I was seeing until the mask came off.
LUTHER: After you hopped that fence, your brother broke away and ran off.
Faster than I could keep up.
I turned this place upside down looking for him.
But it was like he just disappeared.
I figured he did the smart thing and ran home until the cops showed up.
Those cops were never gonna look that hard for a missing black kid anyway.
They were here and gone in less than a day.
Wasn't till six months later I realized Marcus never left.
That probably ain't what you wanted to hear, and for that, I'm sorry, but it's the truth.
You two can find your way out.
Are you okay? I just need a I just need a moment with my brother.
Of course.
But when you need me, I'll be there.
[OVER PHONE.]
Hey, y'all, it's Kym.
Holla.
Wow.
You really are dead to her.
You may have noticed, but Kym doesn't like when people stand up to her.
So she only wants you around when you're doing exactly what she wants? Some friend.
More like a sister.
Pushes my buttons like no other.
But, hey siblings fight, right? And smash each other's cars? Yeah, didn't see that one coming.
I guess you could say I have some anger issues.
Usually, I can keep it under control, but sometimes all that rage builds up, and I just lose it and I wanna hurt someone.
Yeah, I can see that.
[HORN PLAYING "DIXIE".]
[MAN SHOUTING.]
- Hey, is that the - Yeah, and they're heading for Kym.
[INHALER RATTLING.]
- What are you doing? - [INHALES.]
Manny Oh, my God.
Manny, wait up! [HOOKMAN SCREAMING IN DISTANCE.]
- [HOOKMAN GROANS.]
- Oh! - Luther.
- [COUGHING.]
DEION: What happened? Run, boy.
Run.
He's coming for you.
Who? Ghostface.
[TIRE RATTLING.]
Come on, baby, just a little farther back to civilization, come on.
Come on, come on.
- [TIRES SQUEALING.]
- [HORN PLAYING "DIXIE".]
[TIRES SQUEAL.]
Damn.
MAN: Hyah! Hyah! [KYM CRYING OUT.]
[CRYING OUT.]
KYM: No! - Hurry up! - I'm trying.
Sorry, these shoes aren't made for running.
- Those boots are awful, by the way.
- Screw you.
-[CRACKS.]
-BETH: Ah! Damn it.
BETH: No, it's fine, it's fine.
Just go.
I'll be right behind you.
Just go, it's fine.
Just go, just go.
Come on, freak! [DISTANT DOG BARKING.]
I know you're here.
Show yourself! All right, boy.
Let's dance.
[HOOKMAN GRUNTS.]
[HOOKMAN GROWLS.]
Come on.
Come on! [HOOKMAN GRUNTING.]
Where is she? Where is she? Where is she? Looks like your friend had herself some sort of accident.
You're lying.
You did this.
Now what are you gonna do with that? If y'all could change a tire, you wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.
MAN: Ah! - You broke my damn arm! - Yeah, I'm just getting started.
Now, which one of you bitches is next, huh? Huh? - MAN 1: Let's get out of here.
- MAN 2: Guy's crazy.
Liv! Liv! Damn it.
Liv! HOOKMAN: Help! - [MACHINE WHIRRING.]
- [HOOKMAN GROANS.]
Help! - Get me out! - Hey, hey, Luther, how do I help? There's a control panel on the other side.
HOOKMAN: Ah! - [ELECTRICITY CRACKLES.]
- [METAL CLANGING.]
It's busted.
- How do I stop it? - You can't.
There's no time.
HOOKMAN: Ah! I'm sorry, Deion.
I'm sorry.
[HOOKMAN SCREAMING.]
MANNY: Kym? Kym, where are you? Look, I'm sorry.
Kym? Kym.
[RUSTLING.]
Kym? Is that you? Kym! Kym? [RUSTLING.]
Kym! [WHIMPERING.]
Is that you? [MANNY CRIES OUT.]
[GROANS.]
[LOCK CLICKS.]
[ENGINE SPUTTERING.]
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
[ENGINE SPUTTERING.]
- [GRUNTING.]
No! - [DOOR HANDLE RATTLING.]
MANNY: No! No! No, please! Please! No.
[HANDLE RATTLING.]
Come on, come on, come on! Someone help! Help! Help! Somebody! [WHEEZING, COUGHING.]
Help! Help! Help! Help! - AMIR: Beth.
- Oh, my God.
Oh, thank God.
I found these on the side of the road and I got scared.
Did you run all the way here? For the first mile.
After that, it was more like a painful jog.
- Why the hell would you do that? - Because Liv slashed your guys' tire and left you Wait, wait, hold up.
Liv did that? Yeah, but it doesn't matter.
All that matters is you're okay.
Damn.
You really are that nice.
Guess I was wrong about you.
Actually, I think you were right.
Maybe I do have an angle 'cause I do want something from you.
Something more than just friends.
Have you ever even kissed a girl before? - Does it matter? - Not to me.
-[KYM GASPS.]
-BETH: Kym, what happened? Last thing I remember, I was being ran off the road.
I don't remember anything after that.
It's all a blur.
Where's Manny? I thought I thought he was with you.
He saw those rednecks headed your way and he ran off to save you.
[DISTANT EXPLOSION.]
KYM: No.
No, no, no, no, no.
DEION: Liv! [TIRES SCREECH.]
Deion, what happened? You look like you've seen a Ghostface was here.
He killed Luther.
Oh, God.
Where was you at? I went back to the car.
I was worried about Amir.
I've been driving around looking for him.
Wait.
You don't think he's [SLAMS FIST.]
[CELL PHONE BUZZING.]
Amir, hey, hey, where are you? I'm in a cornfield with Beth and Kym.
What about Manny? I tried to help, but, guys, it's It's bad.
It's It's really bad.
- Manny, no.
No, no, no! - Kym, Kym! - No, Manny! No, Manny! - Kym, no, no, no.
It's too late.
- No, Manny! [MUTTERS.]
- He's dead.
[SOBBING.]
No! - KYM: No, Manny, I'm sorry.
- AMIR: I'm sorry.
KYM: No.
[KYM SOBBING.]
JAY: Hey.
Your mom been tripping all night.
Where you been at? - I just went to the salvage yard.
- Where Marcus died? Why the hell would you go do that? Thought I needed proof.
Proof? - I already told you.
- I know, I know.
You was right.
Marcus is gone.
It's like I lost him all over again.
I know you feel like you ain't a part of this family, like we ain't blood or nothing like that, but you the only brother I got.
I see that now.
I see that.
Hey, baby.
What's up? [SNIFFLES.]
We gotta let him go, Ma.
As much as it hurts.
I can't, baby.
I can't, baby.
I can't.
[SHERRY SIGHS.]
He's gone, Ma.
[CELL PHONE BUZZING.]
You can't sleep either, huh? - I can't stop thinking about Manny.
- No, Liv.
Listen, that's not your fault.
All right? That's on whoever killed him.
But we need to figure out who that is before it happens again.
I've been racking my brain all night trying to do just that.
Let me guess, you've got another one of your theories? Ever since Ghostface started targeting us, he's been one step ahead of us.
It's like he knows all our plays before we even make 'em.
Look, I really hope I'm not right 'cause if I am, we are so screwed.
Tell me, who do you think is killing us? I think it's someone who's been hiding in plain sight, right under our noses.
I think Ghostface is one of us.
Try to get some sleep.
AMIR: Friends don't matter if you're dead.
So pick one of them to die instead.
Ghostface was just here.
You gotta go.
I'm done leaving my friends when they need me.
Maybe we shouldn't do this.
Having sex with a killer on the loose Wait.
We're gonna have sex?
