Star Wars REBELS (2014) s04e06 Episode Script

Flight of the Defender

1 (LOTH-CAT MEOWING) (LOTH-CATS MEOWING) SABINE: I see plenty of interceptors, but that's nothing new.
Are you sure this is the place, Ryder? My spies said this is where the test flight for the new TIE defender will be.
Well, we've been out here for hours, and all I've seen are these stinkin' loth-cats.
What can I say? They like me.
I'm glad somebody likes you, Ezra, but let's stay on mission.
(COMLINK BEEPING) HERA: Spectre-2 to Spectre-6.
What's your status? No sign of the ship Yet.
How's your recon going? The Empire's been fortifying their anti-aircraft defenses, and there are some new fuel tanks near the factory.
They must be getting ready to start full-scale production.
Maintain surveillance until nightfall, then return to base.
EZRA: Copy that.
Phoenix Six out.
(LOTH-CATS MEOWING) My contacts tell me this new prototype is even tougher than the one you've already encountered.
More powerful engines.
Upgraded targeting computer.
Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.
That's why we're here, Zeb.
(LOTH-CAT GROWLS) (LOTH-CATS HISS) SABINE: Do you see it now, Zeb? Yeah, but I still don't believe it.
(TIE HOWLING) (LOTH-CAT MEWLS) Do we have anything that can match that speed? Uh, it would definitely give the Ghost a run for its money.
I know that pilot.
Vult Skerris.
Well, we got a good look.
If you had your recorder running, we should have enough intel for rebel command.
Mission accomplished.
(LOTH-CAT MEOWS) Hmm.
We can do better.
Sabine, we got what we came for.
Hey, if we're gonna beat that thing, we need more than some pretty pictures.
I don't like where this is headed.
We need to get the flight data recorder.
Wait, from inside the ship? Yep, I was right.
I don't like it.
The data would give rebel command a complete record of the ship's range, top speed, shield array, weapons payload, everything.
We are not passing this up.
How could we get physical information like that to the Rebellion? We have no starships left.
A transmission can easily be blocked.
If we had hard evidence, finding a way to get it to rebel command is what I call a good problem.
She's right.
We can do it.
Ryder, you and Zeb stay here and keep watch.
(LOTH-CAT MEWLS) (LOTH-CATS MEWLING) (PROBE DROID YAMMERING) Okay.
Okay, okay, okay.
Not now.
This is no good.
- We need a distraction.
- You got any ideas? I'll come up with something.
(LOTH-CATS MEOWING) Uh, looks like my little friends beat you to it.
(LOTH-CAT MEOWS) GUARD 1: Great.
More of those things.
That's what we get for building a base out here in the middle of nowhere.
You think they can fly? (LOTH-CAT MEOWS) Kind of like to see if they could.
(LOTH-CAT GROWLING) No, can't fly.
(LOTH-CAT SCREECHES) (LAUGHS) (YELLS) H Hey! (YELLS) Get off me! (GROANS) (LOTH-CATS SCREECH) Get them! Huh.
I like those cats more and more.
Keep watch.
Okay, I found it.
Just give me a few minutes to remove it from the panel.
EZRA: Can't you just copy the data? No, faster to take the whole thing.
ZEB: Heads up, you two.
We've got a ship inbound from the south.
(IMPERIAL SHUTTLE HOWLING AND HISSING) SABINE: Ezra, what's happening? Something terrible.
Good afternoon, Commander.
I'm eager to hear your opinion on the improvements made to the TIE defender program.
Allow me to present the defender elite for your inspection, Grand Admiral, and then I will provide you with a flight demonstration.
RYDER: They're headed for the fighter.
Sabine's still in there.
Get ready.
Things are about to get interesting.
(COMLINK BEEPING) Sabine, we have to go.
Now.
I I've almost got it.
Just stall 'em.
Stall 'em? How? It's Thrawn! SABINE: I'm confident you'll think of something.
(LOTH-WOLF HOWLS) (GASPS) (DISTANT BLASTER FIRE) A Jedi? Here? Ezra Bridger.
Capture him! Secure the prototype.
I don't believe it.
This thing has a navicomputer.
Well, Ezra, you certainly got their attention.
EZRA: (SARCASTICALLY) I'm glad this is working for you! Ezra, Sabine, head for the south end of the runway.
We'll blast our way down there to get to you.
EZRA: No, take the information you have, and report to base.
We'll find our own way back.
Ezra, I have the data recorder.
Ezra? Maybe this wasn't such a good idea.
But I think I have a better one.
(GRUNTING) Hey! Fascinating.
(TIE HOWLING) (COMLINK BEEPING) Sabine, now's your chance! - Get out of here! - SABINE: Just stay down! (TIE HOWLING) (BLASTER FIRE SCREECHING) Sabine! Are you crazy? Don't just stand there! Jump! (DOOR HISSES) (DOOR HISSES) (BLASTER FIRE SCREECHES) Grand Admiral, take cover! Was this part of the demonstration? They won't get far, sir.
Its hyperdrive is offline.
I will activate the ship's kill switch.
Not yet, Governor.
This is a perfect opportunity for a combat test.
- Skerris, send your pilots to intercept.
- Right away.
(FIRE CRACKLING) I told you it'd get interesting.
We need to get back to base.
GUARD: Hurry! They're getting away! (PANTING) I'm done with this.
Hey.
You hear something? Yeah.
What is that? BOTH: Whoa! (GRUNTING) (TIE HOWLING) I thought we were just gonna steal the data recorder.
We are, but I'm also learning all kinds of things.
Like, this TIE fighter has a navicomputer, which means it has a hyperdrive, so, obviously, I had to take it.
- Why? - Because Without this hyperdrive, we have no way to get the data back to rebel command on Yavin, but with it, we can fly it there right now.
This idea has gone from good to great.
(TIE HOWLING) Keep heading east until I can disable the transponder.
Don't need the Empire tracking us back to rebel command.
(ALARM PINGING) (RADAR TRILLING) Too late.
Enemy fighters, .
68.
(TIES HOWLING) (LASER FIRE SCREECHING) Hang on! (TIE WHIRRING) (BLASTER FIRE SCREECHING) - Keep it steady! - I'm trying not to get shot down.
(TIES HOWLING) (TIE WHINES) (BOTH GASP) (RADAR TRILLS) (RADAR CLICKING) I wonder who else is in that stolen fighter.
They destroyed two of our Interceptors.
It must be Hera Syndulla.
Oh, I think not.
If Captain Syndulla were piloting the ship, our fighters would not have survived this long.
(TIES HOWLING) You know, if you get the whole ship blown up, I won't have to deactivate the transponder! Don't worry, I'll get him.
(BLASTER FIRE SCREECHING) (RADAR BEEPING) (SABINE GRUNTS) Almost There! (TRANSPONDER BEEPS) Oh, no.
No, no, no! Oh, no! "Oh, no" what? I thought you got it.
Ah, its transponder has been disabled in record time.
It's the Mandalorian.
Land the ship.
Now! What's wrong? This ship has a kill switch.
They used it at Skystrike, remember? They can disable the ship from a distance.
If someone of Ezra Bridger's modest skill can best three trained pilots, our new fighter will give us an overwhelming advantage against the rebels.
Governor, you may proceed.
Activating theft countermeasure now.
Scramble gunships.
Once they have fallen from the sky, locate and secure the crash site.
Sabine! - (GRUNTS) Got it! - Got what? I've only got one wing left! Better than no wings! (EZRA GROANS) You okay? (COUGHING) (GROANS) Nice landing.
Well, I guess we can scratch stealing the TIE defender.
Yeah.
But we're still taking the hyperdrive.
What? The drive on Ryder's U-wing is shot, but I can use this one to replace it.
How are we going to carry it? Any way we can.
All right, hurry.
I should have expected them to do something crazy like that.
(CHOPPER GRUNTING) It's okay, Zeb.
This is on them.
(SHIP CHIMING) According to Imperial chatter, they crashed.
The Empire's gonna pour everything they have into the search, but we can't contact them without risking a signal trace.
It doesn't matter.
We have to find them.
(SHIP ROARING) (BOTH GRUNTING) (BOTH PANTING) (LOTH-CAT GROWLS AND MEOWS) This way.
(LOTH-CAT PURRS) (LOTH-CAT MEWLS) Look.
We can hide the hyperdrive in there and come back for it later.
We'll make better time without it.
How did you know that was here? I followed the white loth-cat.
White loth-cat? Are you sure you didn't hit your head in the crash? Just help me get it in there.
(HYPERDRIVE SCRAPING) (LOTH-WOLF HOWLS) Hey, you coming? (SHIPS WHIRRING) We've located the crash, Admiral, but there's no sign of the rebels.
I'm initiating a search.
They won't escape.
Very good, Governor.
Secure the site.
Ground units are en route.
RYDER: I'm picking up a lot of Imperial patrols on the scanner.
It's okay.
Ezra and Sabine have each other.
They'll find their way home.
I'll monitor the Empire's chatter and keep the engines warm, just in case.
- SABINE: Did they see us? - No, I don't think so.
We gotta keep moving.
(LOTH-WOLF HOWLING) Ezra.
Ezra! Hey, I said we need to keep moving! What is it? I I thought I saw something.
I think it's a Loth-wolf.
No one's seen them in a hundred years, but I think I keep seeing one today.
A loth-wolf? Like from those old cave paintings? Yeah (LOTH-WOLF GROWLING) Sabine! Sleep Sabine! (STAMMERING) What did you do to her? (LOTH-WOLF GROWLS) (LOTH-CAT MEOWS) (LOTH-CAT MEOWS) I don't believe it.
I thought I was just imagining things earlier.
(LOTH-WOLF GROWLING) I'm glad you don't like the Empire either.
They're looking for us.
Are you sure it's okay? (LOTH-WOLF MOANS GENTLY) (LOTH-WOLF PANTING) Thank you.
(GROWLS) I don't understand.
Why did you help us? Dume HERA: Ezra! Sabine! (SIGHS) Thank goodness you're safe.
How did you get back here so fast? Didn't you see the Loth-wolf? Sabine? (GROANS) I don't remember seeing anything.
I just heard you say "wolf.
" Is that the Flight data recorder from the TIE defender elite.
All Sabine's idea.
We got the hyperdrive too.
Stashed it in the rocks near the crash.
I think it'll work in our U-wing.
Then we can come and go off this rock.
Well done, you two.
Kanan, there was a wolf.
And there's something more to it.
What, I don't know.
I believe you.
All paths are coming together now.
What does that mean? I don't know.
We'll have to find out when we get there.
