The Voice US (2011) s09e09 Episode Script

The Battles, Part 3

This is my chance to prove that I do have what it takes to make a successful career in this industry.
I don't want it to end yet, I want to keep doing this, so I'm singing with everything I've got today.
Tonight, the battles continue.
It's time to begin, isn't it? I get a little bit bigger but then I admit The battle rounds are so intense.
The competition level is high, and the stress level is even higher.
I reach my highest gro-o-o-o-und performances reach new heights.
It was insane.
Dusty road oh, I'm gonna find you wherever you go wow.
This is, like, the big leagues.
This is where the best voices in America end up.
Holy crap.
Hey! To help prepare their artists, our coaches enlisted help from some of the biggest names in music.
Oh, this is gonna be fun.
It just sounded raspy.
I love a raspy voice.
Did you guys just go out on the road for a week or something and come back here? That's amazing.
You make great eye contact.
And maybe just have a moment where you look at her genuinely.
Everyo-o-o-ne there's so much more than just singing a song.
It's commanding the presence of the stage.
Kind of music just soothes the soul our artists will be pushed like never before to remain on their teams Days of old yeah, we like that old time rock 'n' roll I freakin' love the sound of your voice.
And our coaches each have only one steal left.
My team's still gonna evolve and change, and I do have my eye on a few people.
Hopefully I can steal.
I'll go wherever you will go it's the most unforgettable night of battles yet.
-I'm seriously getting pissed off.
-Whoa.
There was something really, like, brawly and, like, unruly about what was happening up there.
-Please let me borrow that cane for a second -Yeah, here you go, man.
So I can go beat the hell out of Adam with it.
Man.
The battles start right now.
Welcome to universal studios Hollywood, where our coaches are getting ready for night 3 of the battles.
I'm excited.
I have one steal left in case you wanted to know.
I have one steal left, and I'm excited.
-I have one left.
-Pharrell, one? So one, one, one, one? Ooh, it's gonna be a bloodbath.
Let's do this.
As they get settled, let's meet Blake's first battle pairing 24-year-old Blaine Mitchell from fort worth, Texas, versus 33-year-old blind Joe from Fargo, north Dakota.
Blaine Mitchell, a former athlete, came to "the voice" in order to take his music career to the next level.
I blew out my knee, so the mlb said, "bye-bye.
" That became the moment that I was like, "okay, I'm gonna put all of my efforts into my band with my brother.
" Tell me, did Venus blow your mind? During his blind audition, he got the attention of both Gwen and Blake.
Your strength and your voice, it was incredible.
You started hitting some notes.
That one that you hit, and you just held for a long time I'm a fan, dude.
I got to go with Blake.
Yes! Blind Joe refused to let anything stop him from achieving his dreams.
I was born three months premature, and my retinas didn't attach.
My mom and dad really instilled that if you want something, you've got to work hard.
So, yeah, this is a truly blind audition.
Never woulda loaded up my .
44 his powerful performance got all four coaches to push their buttons.
There was something so honest about it.
It's so beautiful.
There's only one blind Joe in the freakin' world.
I pick Blake.
Yes! Blaine, blind Joe.
-Hey, brother.
-Hey! This is my friend Brad paisley right here.
-Hi, Joe.
How are ya? -Good, man.
How are you? Anybody that knows country music knows Brad paisley.
He is an amazing guitarist.
Guy is a living legend.
It's like a dream come true for a north woods country boy.
You guys have big, loud voices with power and energy behind what you both do.
You guys are two, like, dudes that leave blood and guts up there.
-Yeah.
-And that's why you two are doing it.
"Old time rock and roll" by Bob seger I mean, country singers sing it, rock guys sing it.
It's just kind of a universal song.
Just take those old records off the shelf I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself blind Joe is unique with sort of that raspy thing.
Still like that old time rock 'n' roll Blaine has a different way of delivering that, but it would be in the same bin in the record store.
-Blaine pinned us back in our seats here.
-But I felt like you had trouble hitting the pitches.
-Right.
-Blind Joe, do I call you "blind Joe"? -Yeah.
Be like me, "hey, fat Blake.
" -You know what I mean? Everybody back home calls me blind Joe.
Okay, there's places in that chorus where the melody changes.
You can go up.
If you do that the right way, it makes for great music.
-Yeah, yeah.
-Yeah.
Blaine has that quality in his voice with the higher notes that he can just punch them out.
Don't try to take me to a disco so I really need to up my game a little bit.
-You guys just have to give this -Yeah.
Everything you got from the moment the song starts.
-Yes, sir.
-You know, that's just the nature of this song.
-Yeah.
-And that's why you two are doing it -Because that's what you do.
-Yeah.
I also think lay off a little bit -right before going for the high note.
-Yeah.
-Leave some gas in the tank.
-Yeah.
-Yeah, yeah.
-Boom.
It's good.
As their battle nears, Blaine and blind Joe meet with Blake and Brad paisley for their final rehearsal.
I'm going high.
That old time rock 'n' roll -Blaine, I think you should rock out like you normally would.
-Sweet.
It's a front-man thing, and we wish we could move like that.
-Oh, my gosh.
-The way you do the Mike thing and all that.
This is just you guys on stage, sweaty, with beer and girls everywhere, and just Jack Daniels in the glass? Yes.
All of that.
That's what this moment is.
Joe's a cool guy.
We're becoming good buddies, but we're gonna Duke it out.
In order to win this battle, I have to put on a great freaking show.
I like that old time rock 'n' roll still like that old time rock 'n' roll hey, blind Joe, you were stepping on him.
Blaine has a lyric sheet that he can look at, and you have to work that much harder to learn which parts are yours.
Being blind, it does pose a little bit of a challenge, because I can't see any kind of cue so that I'll know when to come in.
- Rock 'n' roll - yeah, call me a relic Blaine's been really cool about showing me some tips and tricks, but I just have to listen extra carefully.
I mean, that's my life is rising up and overcoming challenges.
You guys are singing so good.
Yeah, you si Especially when blind Joe just comes in at the beginning.
It's oh, man.
Yeah, it's like a baseball bat hitting ya.
Yeah.
-It's good.
-Thank you, man.
And also, it's like a clinic watching you play.
I-I'm studying, looking at the finger calisthenics that you're doing over there.
Holy crap, Brad paisley is telling me that I'm a decent guitar player.
I can die a happy man, as far as I'm concerned.
Sounds unbelievable.
At this point, these two guys are equal.
All I can ask is they give this performance everything they have.
It's the night of their battle.
Blaine and blind Joe make their way to the stage.
After countless years of gigs and shows, there's a lot riding on this.
Now's the time.
I've been playing in bars and honky-Tonks for a good 10 years now, and I'm recently married.
We want to start a family, and in order to do that, I need stability, and this is my shot.
Going voice-to-voice from team Blake, it's the Texas pop-rocker Blaine Mitchell Versus the inspiring country singer from north Dakota, blind Joe! All right, Joe! Whoo! Let the battle begin.
Just take those old records off the shelf I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself today's music ain't got the same soul I like that old time rock 'n' roll take it, Blaine.
No, don't try to take me to a disco unh-unh.
You won't even get me out on the floor you tell 'em, Blaine.
In 10 minutes, I'll be late for the door whoo! I like that old time rock 'n' roll yeah, we like that old time rock 'n' roll that kind of music just soothes my soul I reminisce about the days of old to that old time rock 'n' roll no, don't want to hear 'em play a tango me, neither, brother.
I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul ah, I know that's right.
There's only one sure way to give me a go tell them how it is, man! Oh, I like that old time rock 'n' roll yeah, call me a relic, call me what you will say I'm old fashioned, say I'm over the hill today's music ain't got the same soul I like that old time rock 'n' roll hey! Still like that old time rock 'n' roll that kind of music just soothes my soul I reminisce about the days of old -clap your hands! Come on! Oh, it's that old time, old time yeah, we like that old time rock 'n' roll that kind of music just soothes my soul I reminisce about the days of old with that old time rock 'n' roll yeah, yeah, yea-a-a-a-a-h whoo! Blaine and blind Joe, everybody.
Whoo! Fellas, way to rock the house.
-Great job.
-Thank you.
Thank you.
Let's get some comments from our coaches.
Let's start with pharrell.
Man, that was, like, exhilarating.
Blaine, I heard you hit this high note.
I think you took it up, like, a full octave.
I was like, "okay.
Wow.
" Thank you.
How you doing, Mr.
blind Joe? I'm doing great, pharrell.
You're looking good tonight, man.
I didn't expect you to be as soulful as you were.
Thank you so much, man.
I may have to go with blind Joe, but you guys were both, honestly, great.
Thank you, pharrell.
Thank you.
Thank you, pharrell.
Gwen.
Blaine, I'm impressed with you because you kind of had to be the one to work the stage, which was a lot of pressure, and you did a great job.
I appreciate it.
That means a lot.
Thank you.
-Blind Joe.
-Yes, ma'am.
My son just bought a shirt exactly like that online -Really? Awesome.
-And he's, like He's obsessed with cowboy shirts right now, so -Attaboy.
-Attaboy.
Yeah.
Is that your family over here? I'm not sure who you're pointing at, but let's go with yes.
I hope whoever you pointed at is good-looking.
Yeah, Joe, you're crushing it tonight.
I can't imagine how proud you are right now.
It's so incredible how we all are given our own gifts in life, and yours was to sing and play that guitar the way you do so uniquely.
And I just feel so lucky to be on the show to witness that.
So congratulations.
You're incredible.
Well said, Gwen.
Adam.
I really wanted to be drunk at a bar, like, maybe kind of close to getting in a bar fight.
-Like, I don't know.
There was something really, like, brawly and, like, unruly about what was happening up there, and it was awesome.
Blind Joe, I love you.
-You know how I feel about you.
-Thank you.
-I love you back, brother.
-You're fantastic.
The revelatory thing for me was Blaine.
This dude is like -This dude's a rock 'n' roll star.
-That's awesome.
You were giving me, like, Michael hutchence, like, inxs, like, kind of almost like a George Michael thing, and that made me think, "there's something to this dude that I didn't pick up on before.
" So I really love what you do, too, so -Thank you, brother.
-Thank you, Adam.
Blake Shelton, the final decision is yours, sir.
Well, I guess I'll say first, mission accomplished.
I mean, 'cause you just heard "stone cold" Steve Austin down here saying that he wanted to get in a bar fight and at the You know, drunk and all that.
Isn't that what you do in the country get in bar fights? Joe, will you please let me borrow that cane for a second -Yeah, here you go, man.
-So I can go beat the hell out of Adam with it.
Okay.
Blaine is bouncing around, and blind Joe wouldn't be quiet in between all of your lines.
He's like, "sing it again! Sing it again! Come on!" It was rowdy.
That's what I'm saying.
-What is going on up here? -It was rowdy.
-Like, what are y'all doing? But it was fun, and that's what it was meant to be, you know? So thank you guys for for doing that.
As far as singing goes, it was a dead tie.
And so now I'm left with the crappy decision of trying to decide what the right thing to do here is, and it's not fun.
All right, Blake, I know you loved them both, but we have to find out right now.
Who is the winner of this battle? Uh, the winner of this battle is blind Joe.
Blind Joe! Winner! Moves on! Whoo! Yeah, Joe! Thank you.
I chose blind Joe 'cause he's something really special.
And moving forward, I want to keep him doing some of that rockin' country stuff that he loves to do.
Whoo! When I heard Blake call my name, I just kind of went into shock.
-Amazing, you know? -Whoo-hoo! It's so wonderful to have liann here with me.
She's been my rock.
To be making this happen so that we can have some sort of stability in our lives finally, it's a dream come true.
Coaches, let me remind you Blaine is available to steal.
Come on, Adam.
Blaine, anything you want to say to your coach? Man Yes! That is a steal! Adam levine steals Blaine away from Blake! You have a thing.
I don't know what it is, but I know that I want to figure out what it is.
Thank you.
That's awesome.
There we go.
Adam steals Blaine Mitchell.
Blaine came out of nowhere for me.
The dude has a vibe that is worth being a part of.
Come on home.
He's on my team, and I love it.
You were doing something awesome up there.
I appreciate it.
Yeah, man.
-Yeah! -Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo! I'm so excited to join Adam's team.
Knockouts, here we come.
Good job, Adam.
I think that was a good instinct.
-He's got a thing.
-Yeah.
Get some leather pants on him.
Coming up I'm so darn glad he let me try it again unbelievable performances Tomorrow mornin' I'm hittin' dusty road more tough decisions Ouch.
Ouch.
This one's gonna break Gwen's heart.
This is the hardest thing I've ever had to decide.
And battles that have all four coaches ready to steal.
This is "the voice" welcome back to the battle rounds.
Let's meet Adam's first battle pairing of the night 48-year-old cassandra robertson from mckinney, Texas, versus 31-year-old Viktor király from Budapest, Hungary.
Mother of two, cassandra robertson put her dreams of stardom on hold at an early age.
While attending college, I got pregnant.
It was a life-changer for me.
You know, you have a mouth to feed.
And so I pretty much held a double life.
I have my catering business, and I work through the weekend singing.
And I would tour occasionally with different artists who needed, like, a background vocalist.
During the blind auditions Your ghost the ghost of you, it keeps me awake Cassandra captivated Adam with her performance of "ghost" by Ella Henderson.
Cassandra, this show is called "the voice.
" And I'll be damned if I'm letting you not advance here.
Viktor király moved from great neck, New York, to Budapest, Hungary, when he was just 16 years old.
My mother was diagnosed with severe cancer.
She was homesick.
So the whole family moved back to her mother country.
After his mother recovered, Viktor found success abroad.
Even though I've reached a lot of goals, America is the land of the dreams.
What's going on all four coaches quickly took notice What's going on during his performance of Marvin gaye's "what's going on.
" That guy is white.
I want to have somebody that's gonna take this the distance.
I'm gonna pick Adam.
Cassandra and Viktor join Adam and classic-rock legend John fogerty for their first rehearsal.
Hi.
-Just casual mondays.
-Yeah.
I'm already super stoked just to see Adam, and then to see John fogerty? Oh, my God.
I feel like you have more in common with each other than you realize, musically.
Cassandra and Viktor are both super-soulful singers.
That's why they're together.
How are we feeling about this song? Adam gave us "nobody knows" by the Tony rich project.
I'm not always a schmaltzy guy, but you've got a melody you can sink your teeth into.
I've known this song for ages.
I love this song.
And I'm dyin' inside Viktor's very experienced.
He's had a lot of success overseas.
But I feel confident in my ability to show my heart and to really showcase the song.
And nobody knows it but me can I ask an awkward question? Absolutely.
Does the song have to modulate? I know how I react every time I hear it do that chord.
-Get that thing up there.
Raising the key just in kind of little steps, to a rock 'n' roll guy, the modulation ruined it.
I know what you're saying, too.
You don't really need it.
Oh, we can try it without it.
How blue can I get? You could ask my heart Viktor is very polished.
But like a Jigsaw puzzle and cassandra was a one-chair turn.
I keep thinkin' about the love that we had one chair versus four means very little.
Cassandra does not lack power and talent.
I'll tell you that.
Cassandra, I didn't know you had so much grit up there at the top of your voice.
She got, like, some fogerty grit.
Yeah.
And, boy, the harmony wow.
-Thank you.
-Yeah.
Viktor, when you're ending a phrase, you want to be pretty sure about how you end it, 'cause sometimes at the end of those two lines, "dusty road" and "unload my heart," it sounded like you were unsure.
-Yeah.
-Kind of swallowing that Yeah, like, "I don't know yet.
" Cassandra, she was swinging for the fences, and I think, Viktor, let's do it like everything matters.
With their battle near, cassandra and Viktor join Adam and John fogerty for a final rehearsal.
I'll be lovin' you sti-I-I-ll, oh you never know when you put people together if it's gonna work or if it's gonna be a train wreck.
I'm hittin' dusty road but when they're up there singing together, it's kind of like, "look at these two pros just killing it right now.
" And hope you come back to me boy, did you guys just go out on the road for a week or something and come back here? That's amazing.
Beautiful.
Cassandra and Viktor both showed up ready.
They were scary good, especially Viktor.
He sounds like there's a story behind the singing.
You know, he's got a little rascal in him.
I have an idea.
I would like to do a dramatic stop.
Ba, ba.
Say when the lights are lonely -yeah.
-Was that the former modulation moment right there? It was.
-Yeah.
-Good call, Mr.
fogerty.
Vocalists like yourselves tend to fall back on improvisation in the moment to fill spaces that you're not quite as sure on.
-Yeah.
-Less is more.
Not less passion and not less emotion, but just note-wise.
I need to work on keeping that healthy balance between passion and technicality.
Really play up the conversational, -dramatic argument between a couple.
-Sure.
In the beginning of the song, should we, you know, sing it to the audience or right off the bat, sing it to each other? -I would wait.
-Wait? -Yeah.
-I would wait.
Song's like a relationship where it's, like, ending.
It's like you spend some time apart from each other in the beginning and then you can kind of slowly make your way in a really organic way.
It doesn't have to be staged.
Maybe first You know how love works.
It's like, "ugh.
" Say when the nights are lonely who I wind up choosing instinctually really only comes down to one thing, which is how I'm made to feel in that moment, and I can't wait to see them do this.
Me-e-e-e-e-e -thank you.
-Our work is done here.
Thank you.
It's the night of their battle.
Cassandra and Viktor get ready to take the stage.
I'm doing it for my family, I'm doing it for everyone that's watching me and supporting me back in Hungary, and I'm doing it for the hope of being recognized here in America.
I'm 48 years old.
I've been in this industry a long time.
I feel like I've paid my dues, and I'm ready for this moment.
Coming up Tomorrow mornin' I'm hittin' dusty road a battle performance that has our coaches in awe.
Find you wherever you go I am just so impressed by you.
When you were singing, it was just like an effortless prance.
I'm so, so, so proud.
And later, pharrell and adviser missy elliott collaborate on a battle you won't want to miss.
Ohhh is there a way that you guys can do, oh-ooh-ohh no, no, no-o Welcome back to the battle rounds.
Entering now from team Adam, it's the Texas caterer and mom of two, cassandra robertson Yeah! Whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo! Versus the Hungarian pop sensation from New York, Viktor király! -Come on, vik.
-Go, vik.
Let the battle begin.
Ooh-ooh ooh-ooh yeah, yeah, yea-ah I pretend that I'm glad you went away these four walls closin' more every day and I'm dyin' inside and nobody knows it but me ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh like a clown, I put on a show the pain is real even if nobody knows and I'm cryin' inside and nobody knows it but me whoa-oa whoa-oa how blue can I get? You could ask my heart but like a Jigsaw puzzle it's been torn all apart a million words couldn't say just how I feel a million years from now, you know I'll be lovin' you sti-I-I-I-I-ll whoa.
Tomorrow mornin' I'm hittin' dusty road oh, I'm gonna find you wherever you go and I'm gonna unload my heart and I hope you come ba-a-a-ck to me-e-e-e say when the nights are lonely whoa-oa, and the days are so sad I can't stop thinkin' about the love we had and I'm missin' you and nobody knows it but me oh, whoa-oa and I'm missin' you and nobody knows it but me let's hear it for cassandra and Viktor in a battle for team Adam.
-Yes, ma'am! -Yeah! -Yes, Viktor! -Viktor! Viktor! Victor! Well, certainly nobody envies the decision that Adam's gonna have to make here.
-No.
-Let's see if the other coaches can help you out.
Blake Shelton, your thoughts? There have been battles that had bigger moments, but as far as just consistent, felt like I was listening to a record, that's the best battle I've seen.
Cassandra, I am so impressed by you.
I mean, there was a moment there you did a run.
I just looked over at pharrell, and I was like, "holy crap.
That was unbelievable.
" And your entire performance was that way.
But then what Viktor did is, in some ways, even more impressive, because he found a way to stay equal with somebody of your caliber.
It's unbelievable.
Because I'm so shocked, I would go with with Viktor.
Thank you, Blake.
Pharrell.
-Whoo! -Great performance.
I know Viktor was a four-chair turn, and as much as "the voice" is about pulling out these really interesting anomalies like yourself, because one wouldn't assume someone from Hungary would sound like that, and it's amazing, and I think you're awesome.
But, miss robertson, when you were singing, it was just like and effortless, like, prance.
The notes, the range, from up top all the way to the bottom, and I feel like there's just something magical and undeniable about your performance.
So I would give it to you.
Thank you, pharrell.
Gwen.
Yes! I'm just blown away that you kept up with that.
I mean, it's just It was crazy.
You have such a beautiful voice.
Cassandra, you are so meant to be on the stage, and it must be so fun to be able to do that with your voice.
Do you just do it all the time? Are you in the shower just like I want to hear you do what you just did again.
There you go.
Anyways, I'm blown away.
It's crazy.
Adam, you have the tough decision here.
Cassandra, you look beautiful.
You sound beautiful.
Viktor, you're you're beautiful, too.
Totally different Different different way.
You guys are both so technically skilled, but your ability to connect not only with just the vocal but with each other Yeah.
Is like that lethal combination that's so amazing.
You know, a lot of people can sing, but you guys execute it with such passion and with so much feeling that I'm so, so, so proud.
Adam, look, tough decision.
We know.
But who is the winner of this battle? Um Just know that neither one of you could've possibly done better.
The winner of this battle Is Viktor.
Viktor is gonna move on and represent team Adam in the knockouts.
You're amazing.
I feel very blessed that Adam picked me, but I just want everyone to know that cassandra is absolutely amazing.
It's a very bittersweet moment.
Whoo-hoo-hoo! Oh, my God! Viktor singing the way he does, it's just soulful and powerful.
It's far too interesting to pass up.
Cassandra, anything you'd like to say to your coach? I would just like to thank you.
I think I've proven to my children it's never too late to follow your dreams.
A big hand for cassandra robertson.
I hate seeing cassandra go home.
I think she's so talented.
Oh, you're so wonderful.
Thank you.
If I was to compare the two, I would say that Viktor's voice is a tiny bit more unique, but I'm gonna miss her.
That dude's amazing.
He was great.
I was blown away by that guy.
Coming up I loved you first a rehearsal that deeply moves Gwen and Selena.
My whole body.
Seriously, double-rainbow shivers up my legs.
And later I liked the "risky business" slide.
Blake likes what he sees They've already blown his socks off.
But will it be enough this is "the voice" be welcome back to the battles.
Let's check in with Gwen and her adviser I'm so happy.
Pop star Selena Gomez.
You're so perfect to do this because you have so much experience.
In the past year, I've learned so much about my own voice, and that's been super important.
So I want to make them feel comfortable, and I want to contribute anything I can.
I feel like you're a butterfly that just came out of the cocoon.
Oh, thanks.
Let's meet Gwen's first battle pairing of the night 30-year-old chase kerby from Oklahoma city, Oklahoma, versus 20-year-old korin bukowski from Miami, Florida.
Chase kerby came to "the voice" hoping to make a major career change.
Most of my friends have nice, professional jobs.
You know, I'm still helping mom run the candy store.
But music is what I want to do with my life.
It was easy his heartfelt blind-audition performance of a coldplay song moved Gwen to turn her chair.
I feel like you're really delivering the lyric and really delivering the emotion, and that's what I think is the most important thing.
Thank you.
Quirky college student korin bukowski decided to put school on hold for her blind audition.
I'm currently on the pre-med track.
I would kick myself if I didn't pursue this.
I'd be like, "what if?" I'll keep you safe I'll keep you dry it paid off when Gwen pushed her button.
Don't be afraid, Cecilia, I'm the satellite I really liked your tone.
I thought it was really unique and interesting and weird.
And then have the range that you have is really rare.
You're like my idol.
No! Hi.
-Oh, my gosh.
-What's up, guys? Selena Gomez decided to come hang out with us.
What?! Oh, this is gonna be fun.
My brain is crying.
Let's hug it out.
Seeing Selena Gomez was pretty darn awesome.
She sings.
She acts.
She's funny.
I-I grew up, like, sitting down, eating cereal, watching Selena Gomez.
I heard both of your auditions.
So I think you're both really great.
-Thank you.
-And I'm excited to hear what you guys are gonna do with this song.
The song that I gave korin and chase is "samson" by Regina spektor.
She's so artistic Mm-hmm.
And I feel like both of you guys have that about you.
And I think you're both really creative emotional singers.
Mm-hmm.
This is all about making people believe that you wrote this song together.
This is a heavy song.
It's so heavy.
I feel like the way that Regina spektor wrote this -There's, like, frustration in it, as well.
-Yeah.
Shall we do it? Your hair was long when we first met korin's voice was different today than I remembered it from the blinds.
It was a lot softer.
You know, she wasn't really showing the side that I remember, which was, like, a lot more dynamic.
You are my sweetest downfall chase had a very interesting falsetto.
It wasn't too pretty, which is good.
Holy macaronis.
That was so beautiful.
-I was the only one that turned, and I was right.
-Yeah.
I like the way you end some of the words.
I just Especially "downfall.
" Those endings are so important.
Sometimes, when I'm singing a song, like for the last single I did, I would just say words because I felt it so much.
And I've watched "the voice" for so long, so I know that they just want you to embrace that.
It's such a delicate song that you don't want to just, like, you're like laaaa you know, you don't want to go Pavarotti on it.
Korin, you're the kind of artist you want to record and, like, really close up and just listen with headphones, 'cause it's so tender, you know, your voice.
But I feel like he's ramping up, and so if you could show us a little bit more power -Yeah.
-Like, this battle is gonna be breathtaking.
Now chase and korin head to their final rehearsal.
I loved you first - your hair was long -ooh! When we first met -okay, I have to go.
I can't even I can't even handle that right now.
Like My legs My whole body.
Seriously, double-rainbow shivers up my legs.
It's crazy.
We love you guys.
I have to tell you something.
You stepped it up.
-Yeah? -Yeah.
The way you started it, I just that was immediately from my toes.
Korin completely blossomed.
I felt like she sat with what she's experienced in her real life that relates to that song.
'Cause the moment she says the first word, you're sad.
You're going in and out of being strong and vulnerable and confessional all at once.
When I sing the song, I just think of Like, high school and hurt.
I just remember what hurt feels like.
I think that sometimes, chase, you're getting a little quiet.
Probably need to open my eyes a little.
Yes, try not to shut your eyes unless the song is really making you.
Mm-hmm.
You can't even bear to look 'cause you're in so much pain.
People want to see into you.
That's what she's doing.
Like, when she sings, I'm looking into her heart through her eyes.
-Don't close me off from you.
-Okay.
This is a battle that is gonna kill me.
I do not know what I'm going to do.
This is what's so trippy about this show.
Yesterday, I was like, "he's the one.
" Today, I'm like, "she's the one.
" Coming up, two artists bring out Gwen's protective side.
I'm seriously getting pissed off.
And later Believers our artists fight harder than ever before But you're not allowed to win go wherever you will go hoping to make it to the knockouts or get a steal.
This is "the voice" welcome back.
It's the night of their battle, and chase and korin make their way to the stage.
Winning this battle is important to me because the idea of singing was never in reach for me, and it finally is.
Even though I love the candy store, music is what I want to do with my life.
I've worked really hard, and after you've played shows and you've paid your dues, it would be really heartbreaking to lose this battle.
Which indie artist from team Gwen will win this battle? Will it be the Oklahoma candy-shop owner, chase kerby Go, chase! Whoo! Or the pre-med student from Miami, korin bukowski? The battle starts right now.
You are my sweetest downfall I loved you first I loved you first your hair was long when we first met samson went back to bed not much hair left on his head he ate a slice of wonder bread went right back to bed and history books forgot about us the Bible didn't mention us the Bible didn't mention us not even once samson came to my bed told me that my hair was red told me I was beautiful and came into my bed oh, I cut his hair myself one night a pair of dull scissors in the yellow light he told me that I'd done all right and he kissed me till the mornin' light the mornin' light kissed me till the mornin' light you are my sweetest downfall I loved you first that is chase and korin Battling it out for team Gwen.
Very nice.
Adam levine.
I kind of applaud team Gwen for taking a risk.
I mean, it's so nice to hear a narrative and something, like, so bittersweet and very genuine.
-So, chase, you have a great voice.
-Thank you.
And I found myself loving your voice in both the falsetto and in the regular voice, but then the transition was a little rough.
And so I was taken a little bit out by that.
Korin, the thing that you've got that's amazing is this ability to kind of sail through this vocal and be super emotional and still perfectly kind of on pitch, and it's very captivating.
Thank you.
Moving forward, I'd probablyo with korin, but I think that you both have something really special about what you do.
Thank you, Adam.
Blake Shelton.
Yeah, I was mesmerized by by that performance.
Chase, those transitions made it feel very emotional, too, you know? And there were there were times whenever it sounded like he was gonna cry while he was singing.
Close.
Yeah, that's kind of how I was taking it, dude, and you were really nailing it.
Chase, you clearly have a great voice, but I don't think that the song was necessarily your wheelhouse.
The cards would would fall in your direction, korin, because it's something that you naturally do.
But that doesn't mean that I don't hear -how great of a singer you are, chase.
-Thank you.
So I think Gwen has a really tough decision.
-I know this is not much help.
-Not at all.
But it's super-tough 'cause they're really She's like, "thank you for no help at all, pharrell.
" I seriously love chase and korin so much.
I'm so mama bear about them that when you guys have anything that's a critique, I'm seriously getting pissed off.
Honestly, like, I l I Like, I've never had that feeling on this show before where I actually feel I feel so protective, because, for me, music is about emotions, and there's nothing more emotional than what I just heard.
I mean, I'd die for that performance.
The way that you guys can captivate us with your voices I didn't hear anything that Adam was saying about your voice.
Like, he's so wrong about all of it.
UmI love you.
"He's so wrong about all of it.
" I just thought it was so intense and awesome.
And you did so good.
Your eyes were open.
Good job.
They're both so good.
I think you guys are both so good, and whatever happens for me in my life, like, you touched me.
Both of you did.
It was incredible.
All right, Gwen, who's the winner? Okay, I'm just gonna do it right here.
Here we go.
Are you ready for this? The winner of this battle Is korin.
Korin moves on to the knockouts representing team Gwen.
Oh, my gosh.
You did so good.
I'm excited for the knockouts.
I'm ready to get started working.
And just I'm so pumped! Ahh! Coaches, let me remind you, chase is available to steal.
Chase, anything you want to say to your coach, Gwen? All the advice you've given me, the chance.
Just the chance is mind-boggling.
-I love your voice.
I love it.
-Thank you.
A big thank you.
Give it up to chase kerby, everybody.
I'm sorry.
I love you.
You know I do.
I'm pretty devastated about chase, but I think what I like about korin's voice is that she actually does have power behind it, and she's not just a regular girl.
She has style, and I just look forward to being around that coolness.
Why does it have to hurt so much? Yeah, it always hurts.
Although I think chase is definitely a guy that's that's got a future in music, I only have one steal left right now, so I'm being extra-picky.
Coming up Run away with my love epic performances I reach my highest - gro-o-o-o-und -yeah! That have our coaches going wild.
O.
M.
G.
Seriously, right now I'm gonna talk valley, because that was unbelievable.
I freakin' love the sound of your voice.
Your voice is just this is "the voice" your voice is just welcome back.
.
Let's check in with pharrell and his team's adviser, multi-platinum singer-songwriter missy elliott.
Sis.
Yes? It means so much for me.
Like, this is a Virginia moment right here.
Yes.
I brought in missy elliott to advise my team.
She's a writer, a singer, a producer, a performer, an entertainer.
She's got a whole lot of grammys.
Didn't you say you learned your harmonies from Peggy britt? Yes.
Missy's worked with everybody from Janet Jackson to Jay z.
Yeah, you own it.
Right.
I'm happy to be able to share the platform that I've been given with someone who is as talented and forward-minded as she is.
Let's meet pharrell's first battle pair of the night 20-year-old Evan mckeel from Richmond, Virginia, versus 19-year-old Riley biederer from Atlanta, Georgia.
Evan mckeel found his love of music at a young age as a singer in the church choir and he gives back to dementia patients with his gift.
I'll see someone who might not even remember who their family is, but a song brings memories back.
After turning four chairs during his blind audition, pharrell still wanted to see more.
What's your favorite Stevie wonder song to sing? "Overjoyed," for sure.
And would you do a verse and the chorus? You got it.
Maybe, too, if you would believe oh! You, too, might be overjoyed I just wanted to see what you had.
I pick pharrell.
Oh! Wow.
Riley biederer, a former gymnast, came to "the voice" after realizing her dream's in music.
I started writing songs when I was about 9 years old, and when I was 15, I started posting YouTube videos.
We're like diamonds in the sky overnight, I hit like a million views on one video, and I was like, "ooh.
" Like, "I want to do this for a living.
" Now I am invincible and quickly won over pharrell with her performance of Kelly clarkson's "invincible.
" You were just so in the pocket every time, and some of those runs were awesome.
I mean, what was that like? -Hey, guys.
-Hello.
-What's going on? -Missy "e.
" What?! I was already pumped to see pharrell again, and he's got missy elliott with him Queen of hip-hop.
Like 30 million records sold.
So good to see you.
That's just mind-blowing.
Oh, yeah.
I paired you guys together because both of you have super-soulful voices, and Stevie wonder's "higher ground" I just thought it'd be a good song for you guys to showcase your voice.
We're stoked.
Yeah, we love it.
People keep on learnin' I definitely felt intimidated, 'cause I thought that it was better suited for Evan just because he's always raving about Stevie wonder.
All your people but it's an amazing song.
I listen to a lot of R&B music, so I can really just go crazy with the ad libs and, you know, making it my own.
- So darn glad he let me try it again -wow! 'Cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin the first time I heard Riley sing, I was just, like, blown away.
And her control over her runs and her power and stuff She just has so much feel.
Till I reach my highest gro-o-o-und wow.
Yay.
Evan is a natural.
Now, now it's crazy.
-Yes, I love that.
-Thank you.
Riley is also a beautiful singer, and it's hurting me to pair them up because I don't want to lose either one of them.
I think my only comment is when you get to the word "world" -Yeah, I messed up on that, I think.
-Yeah.
World the funniest thing You can hit, like, a bad note, but if you kind of move right, they'll be like, "oh, yeah, that's all right.
" No, it's so very stank, though.
Riley had the stank.
It was a confidence.
Fierce, sassy.
-This girl's R&B tone is everything.
-Is ill.
And then your voice, young man, is like -It's crazy.
-Something else.
Somewhere when you got to the bridge, it just sounded raspy.
I love a raspy voice.
As of right now, I think Evan might have a littlef an edge.
But Riley is dope, so let me see about tomorrow before Riley, I think it's really, honestly, about you just being comfortable.
Yeah.
Evan, I think you're comfortable.
I'm just gonna ask you to turn it up.
-Turn it up? -Yeah.
All right.
As their battle nears, Evan and Riley have one more rehearsal with pharrell and missy elliott.
While your people "Higher ground" is not an easy song.
It requires a lot of me, vocally.
So darn glad he let me try it again Evan is actually the one person I told everyone I didn't want to battle because he is such a talent.
- Yeah, till I reach it, yeah - oh, oh sorry.
I'm sorry.
Riley is the cutest thing with, like, a great, super-soulful voice, but she needs to get more familiar with the song.
Honestly, yotincts are wonderful, and And you got personality, too.
He's doing amazing, and I'm kind of struggling right now.
Your tone, bro.
It's crazy.
It's original and really different.
Thank you.
Evan is special.
When he knows a song, he knows his way around.
I'm worried about singing over each other.
Is there a way that you guys can do another one of those? Oh-ooh-oh-oh can we hear that again? -Sure.
-We can try.
They're both really amazing, so it's gonna be really tough.
I don't know.
I don't know who I pick.
So glad that I know more than I knew then gonna keep on tryin' it's not just about great singing.
It's gonna be about performance.
It's gonna be about consistency.
I love it.
No, o, no-o I'm just having a hard time right now, knowing I got to lose somebody.
It's hard.
It's the night of their battle, and Evan and Riley get ready to take the stage.
If I want to win this battle, I need to prove I am the type of artist that can grow, and I need to show that I definitely want it just as much as Evan.
I just want to have fun and do what Riley does and put personality into the performance.
I don't want it to end yet, I want to keep doing this, so I'm singing with everything I've got today.
What's up, pharrell? I'm kind of agonizing, because I regret putting you guys together.
We're so happy.
We love it.
Yeah, it's been great.
We're really glad.
Well, you guys have to promise me that if one of you goes away, that you'll come back.
-You know what I'm saying? -Yeah.
For sure.
You guys are great, man.
We're gonna bring it.
It's gonna be awesome.
Up next Till I reach my highest gro-o-o-o-und a performance that wows our coaches.
You destroyed that performance.
It was so good.
He has all the makings to be a killer.
Just take it all in.
Pharrell Williams kind of kicking it to you a little bit.
And later, Gwen gets hip to her final steal.
We got a steal! That was dope.
Bah! This is "the voice" going head-to-head that from team pharrell, it's the Virginia rocker with church roots, Evan mckeel Versus the ex-gymnast turned pop singer, Riley biederer! This battle begins right now.
Hey, yeah hoo, hey people keep on learnin', yeah soldiers keep on warrin', ah wo-orld, hey keep on turnin' 'cause it won't be too long ooh oh, yeah powers keep on lyin', yeah while your people they keep on dyin', yeah hey, hey, hey wo-orld keep on turnin' whoa.
And it won't be too long, yeah ohhhhh I'm so darn glad he let me try it again 'cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin I'm so glad that I know more than I knew then gonna keep on tryin' till I reach my highest ground highest gro-o-u-und oh, ooh lovers lovers hey, keep on lovin' oh believers keep on believin' hey, hey, hey sleepers just stop sleepin' and it won't be too long no, no, no so darn glad he let me try it again 'cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin so glad that I know more than I knew then gonna keep on tryin' till I reach my highest gro-o-o-o-und yeah, yeah, yeah till I reach my highest ground that is how you battle! Give it up for Evan and Riley for team pharrell.
Congratulations, guys.
That was so much fun to watch.
Gwen Stefani.
Evan, if your voice was in somebody else's body, it would be whatever.
But in your body, it makes it so And I don't just mean yourhysical body.
Just your presence.
It's so magic, and I really enjoyed watching you perform.
Thank you.
Riley, you have a really, really rich voice.
It's so beautiful, and you seem to be having so much fun.
If I were pharrell I would be freaking out right now.
Stevie wonder had this unbelievable voice that was also very high.
Beyond the fact that, Evan, you pulled it off, you did it soUnbelievably well.
Quite frankly, it really upset me and pissed me off, 'cause I can't do it that well.
But I think that you both had huge triumphs.
If I was gonna have to pick, I'd probably have to go with Evan, but you both did a phenomenal job.
Blake Shelton.
Evan, I mean, you destroyed that performance.
It was so good, and I liked the "risky business" slide that you did when you come sliding in there.
But Riley has the type of voice I would recognize, and I think that the person with the most unique sound is Riley.
But I do think Evan probably won that battle, so Thank you.
All right, pharrell, you got some help there.
Give us some thoughts.
Riley, what an amazing job you just did.
Like, your choice of notes You really made usage of the whole entire stage.
Evan, when you sing, there's, like, a matrix in your head, and it allows you to just have, like, this exact pocket.
And then your range is just stratospheric.
Pharrell, who's the winner of this battle? Um The winner of this battle Is Evan.
Evan wins the battle round, moves on to the knockouts.
I picked Evan because I felt like he's done something I don't feel like people have seen before.
Good job.
He's definitely different and left of center, but those are the kind of artists that I like.
It's so great to win, of course.
I-I want to keep working and And keep, you know, studying, but, you know, I'm like We're just we became such good friends, you know? It's like It's so hard to do this.
Coaches, let me remind you that Riley is available to steal.
Riley, anything you want to say to your coach, pharrell? I just want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you.
-Thank you.
-Thank you, Riley.
Whoa! We got a steal! Bang, bang, there goes your heart I know you want it yeah! Back, backseat of my car yes! I'll let you have it do it! Do it! Wait a minute, let me take you there from Gwen Stefani! Wait a minute till ya you're back in, Riley! Gwen, what was it about Riley's performance? I like your voice.
I like how loose you are on stage with your presence, and I would love to work with you.
Thank you so much.
Congratulations, Riley.
Go say hi to Gwen Stefani, your new coach.
That was insane.
I am so excited.
And I was like, "mm.
I think I'll try to snatch her up.
" That was dope.
Bah! I feel so much better.
See, now? See? Love you, man.
I love you, too.
Yeah, we like that old time rock 'n' roll it's been torn all apart you can listen to tonight's battle performances on apple music or buy them on iTunes.
I loved you first I loved you first -hi, lyndsey.
-Coming up An unexpected reunion with Selena Gomez.
Oh, my God! And I'm meeting you! So amazing that six years later, I'm standing in a room with Selena Gomez.
That's so crazy.
And later - No one ever -whoa.
More incredible performances Go wherever you will go leave our coaches with tough decisions.
This is brutal.
Who is the winner of this battle? This is "the voice" welcome back to night 3 of the battle rounds.
Let's look at Gwen's next pairing 15-year-old Braiden sunshine from lyme, Connecticut, versus 23-year-old lyndsey elm from vacaville, California.
15-year-old high-school sophomore Braiden sunshine joined a band with family friends at the age of 9.
I've been playing with them for about six years now.
And all of them are off in college, but I'm not just gonna stop.
Mountains win again during his blind audition, Braiden, I do know how to help you.
Mr.
sunshine, please be on team Gwen.
This is like a custody battle.
I know.
I pick Gwen.
Recent college graduate lyndsey elm left her job at her family's pest-control business in hopes of fulfilling her dreams in music on "the voice" stage your lips are movin' then you're ly-ly-lyin', baby her unique blind-audition performance of "lips are movin'" got all four coaches to push their buttons.
Whoo! The way you jazzed it up and slowed it down That's impressive.
It's refreshing to see someone that has the personality with the movement and the presence with the voice.
I pick Gwen.
Oh, my gosh.
Dun-dun-dun-dun Selena Gomez.
How's it going? -Hi.
How you doing? -Good.
Good to see you.
I see Gwen, and then sitting next to her was Selena Gomez, -which is just insane.
-I'm excited.
Selena Gomez is at the top of the charts right now, and it's just amazing to see her want to mentor us.
I think that you both are creative artists.
You interpret songs, you want to make them your own, and that's why I was drawn to you.
And for you, your voice doesn't make any sense with how old you are Like, it's ridiculous.
I gave Braiden and lyndsey "no one is to blame" by Howard Jones.
You can look at a menu but you just can't eat this song is an old '80s song with a really beautiful melody.
When people that know the song see a 15-year-old boy and a girl that has a really fresh take on the song do it, it's gonna be quite impressive.
But you can't commit the sin and you want her being paired with lyndsey is nerve-racking because I can't even begin to describe the quality of her voice 'cause I don't have enough words in my vocabulary.
I would just say to to be a little bit more confident.
I feel like you have the deeper things where you can kind of get into it.
I wanted to hear that.
But other than that, it was beautiful.
-Thank you so much.
-I totally agree, because I think that that deeper tone brings more character to your voice, which is super-important.
How do you see yourself as far as your style goes? I'm trying to blend a pop-acoustic-soul type of vibe together, but I want to stretch, and I want to learn what exactly this can do, and I'm I'm figuring it out, like, little by little.
Lyndsey's amazing.
She has this spunk to her, and she's eager, which says a lot.
You can dip your foot in the pool but you can't have a swim Braiden may only be 15, but he's such a powerhouse already.
I'm willing to really challenge myself to step up.
We want everyo-o-o-ne -wow.
-Whatever.
-How old is he? My God! 15?! Oh, sorry.
That's freaky, because you're very instinctual with your emotions.
Yeah, you have this ability to transfix people, and I would just encourage that.
It, like, made me feel things.
-Yeah.
Sorry I'm so quiet.
-Dude, speak up.
You're good.
-No, it's okay.
I feel really quiet, so It's okay.
You feel really awesome.
All we want to hear is you sing.
Just get into it as much as you can.
Let loose.
Braiden is so adorable.
When I see him, I root for him.
That makes an artist special.
I think that'll work him.
No one ever is to blame oh, ooh-ooh I almost wanted to just hear you sing it, like, one long note and hear your power in your voice -without having to do trickery.
-Right.
We want to hear that you can go there, and you haven't done it the whole song.
-So it's really powerful.
-Definitely.
With you, the first time you went loud, I would say that you save it.
-Yeah.
-Do you think so? Mm-hmm.
I agree.
You have such strong points towards the end.
Make them want that.
Maybe that first time, do a different version of it where it's a little lighter and, like, a little more tender.
Braiden was just so emotional and natural.
Thank you so much.
I think that lyndsey just needs to keep exploring different ways that it can be sung.
As their battle nears, lyndsey and Braiden have one more rehearsal with Gwen and Selena.
-I was reminded of a video that my brother took back in 2009 -Yeah? -At a "wizards of waverly place" taping.
-Oh, gosh.
He had something recorded for me so I could watch it, 'cause I couldn't be there.
I just wanted to show you, 'cause it's pretty ironic.
Hi, lyndsey.
Thank you so much for being a fan.
Hopefully I'll get to meet you one day.
-Oh, my God! And I'm meeting you! -And then it happened.
That's, like, the future.
-I know.
-That's so crazy.
It's so amazing that six years later, I'm standing in a room with Selena Gomez.
It was just the coolest moment that I'll never forget.
You can look at the menu but you just can't eat you can feel the cushions but you can't have a seat you can dip your foot in the pool but you can't have a swim you can feel the punishment you are really coming cto life today.
I feel like the thing that you did different is you reeled in your ad libs a little bit.
Yeah, I'm feeling more confident about it today for sure.
Lyndsey really stepped it up today.
She is incredible at taking notes and actually absorbing it and actually doing something with it.
Braiden, I could tell you're just holding back a little bit.
I think we should get rid of the Mike stands, and think about how you're gonna interact together.
What I need to talk to you about a little bit is what's happening when you're not singing.
When I'm talking to you right now, you're nodding your head.
That's what you need to do, but in song.
And then you need to look out to the audience and be like, "you feel this, too?" And then you come back to her.
And then when it's your turn, you show them what you're giving them.
I just sort of want to sing to you.
I could tell tt Braiden was still a little nervous.
Everyo-o-o-ne and she wants you he just has to allow himself to really go for it now and not be in his head about it.
Now I'm not It's not my part, let's pretend.
So I'm walking.
I still feel the music.
Seeing Gwen Stefani sing and dance right in front of you is something that doesn't happen.
That was just an amazing experience.
There's so much more than just singing a song.
It's commanding the presence of the stage.
You can do it because I know you have it in you.
So good.
-So good.
-Yeah, really.
How do you do it, Selena? How do you get that presence going on stage? Yeah? I get my eye on one person, and it's maybe the dad who's just on his BlackBerry, and I just want to get his attention so bad.
You make great eye contact, and maybe just have a moment where you look at her genuinely.
Sounds good.
Braiden impressed me yesterday, and today lyndsey did, so this is gonna be a really tough decision for me.
This is the part I really don't like.
I want to see you sing all the songs now.
-You're funny.
-You're so good.
Up next, Gwen's artists rise to the challenge And you want her with a timeless song And she wants you -whoa.
-Leaving her with a tough decision.
Ouch.
Ouch.
Coach, brutal decision.
This is "the voice" welcome back to the battle rounds.
It's the night of their battle, and Braiden and lyndsey are about to take the stage.
At this point in the competition, the main thing is getting the emotion across Mm-hmm.
And getting your own personality across so that people remember you, because you have to stick out.
And just enjoy it.
Yeah, totally.
It's like, this is all about having fun.
Thanks.
If I want to win this, I have to figure out how to just control the stage because this opportunity is almost unheard of for someone my age.
So I need to really step up.
If I don't win this battle, it means going back home and working for the family pest-control business.
And music is my passion, so I just want to put it all out there and have no regrets at the end of the day.
Who will represent team Gwen in the knockouts? Will it be the youngest in this competition, 15-year-old indie artist Braiden sunshine Whoo! Whoo-oo-oo-oo! Or the pop vocalist breaking free from the family business, lyndsey elm? -Whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo! -Love you.
The battle starts now.
You can look at the menu but you just can't eat you can feel the cushions but you can't have a seat you can dip your foot in the pool but you can't have a swim you can feel the punishment but you can't commit the sin and youant her and she wants you we want everyone and you want her and you want her and she wants you no one, no one no one ever is to blame you can build a mansion but you just can't live in you're the fastest runner but you're not allowed to win some break the rules oh, and live to count the cost the insecurity ishe thing that won't get lost and you want her and you want her and she wants you no one, no one no one ever is to bla-a-a-a-a-a-me no one ever is to bla-a-a-a-me, yeah-ah - no one ever -whoa.
Is to bla-a-a-a-a-a-me ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh let's hear it for Braiden and lyndsey in a battle for team Gwen.
Wow.
Whoo! All right, let's get some thoughts from our coaches.
-Adam.
-It was like a tennis match.
I was like, "lyndsey.
" And then I was like, "Braiden.
" You both had one moment each that made me realize how much more there is.
This is a really interesting thing for Gwen to have to deal with right now.
You really can't go wrong with either one of these people.
Thank you, powder.
I think they're both wonderful for totally different reasons.
There is no help for you, Gwen.
I'm sorry.
Thank you.
Thank you.
-Thanks, Adam.
Blake.
-Thanks, Adam.
Lyndsey had this won right up until Braiden hit us with that note at the end, and it was like, "man.
Wha what?" It was like, in that moment, a rainbow came shooting out.
It was like The coach in me is like, "we haven't seen -just the tip of the iceberg with this kid," you know? -Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
And probably the same thing with you, too, but you just took more liberties throughout the entire song, which also cannot be ignored as a coach, you know? This one's gonna break Gwen's heart.
Buddy, I don't know what to tell you.
Flip a coin or something.
It's gonna be rough.
Pharrell.
Thanks, Blake.
Hey, guys.
How'd it feel? I don't have words.
I was sharp on the "c.
" That's all I can say.
Whoa, I've never even thought about -that kind of thing ever in my life.
-Yeah.
That's, like, the most analytical mind I've ever heard.
I'm gonna start dropping that kind of stuff, be like, "ah, I was was flat on the 'b, ' but it's okay.
" Both you guys are very interesting performers.
I feel like, Braiden, Blake's right.
When you hit that note, you kind of opened the door to show people there's so much more behind it.
I turned around for you, too, in the blinds, because you have a very unique tone.
And the fu Interesting thing is you didn't really use that tone today, and you actually went to like sixth gear with that sharp "c.
" And then there's lyndsey.
I feel like you colored the song very beautifully, and that only goes to show how much more you can do, as well.
I don't know what you're gonna do.
It's pretty tough.
I mean, like, he has all the makings to be a killer.
With that face? That face is not a killer.
He's a sweet, sweet boy.
And then your voice is just, like, very seductive in a really interesting way.
-Whoa.
-Okay.
No, not in a Not wow.
Lyndsey, just take it all in.
Pharrell Williams kind of kicking it to you a little bit.
Mesmerizing.
Mm.
Thank you.
Coach Gwen.
Lyndsey, your star, like, really came out tonight.
Your voice, the tone, the control, your presence on stage.
-Thank you.
-I'm so happy for you.
Thank you.
That means so much.
And, Braiden, for me to be able to work with someone your age and just someone as cool as you are, it was an incredible experience for me.
Your high notes When you push out like that, it's mind-blowing.
I thought you did a great job moving around the stage.
You had to work at that.
That didn't feel comfortable for you, but you did a really, really good job.
Gwen, who is the winner of this battle? I promise you that there has not been a moment on this show where I am more confused than I am right now.
This is, like, impossible.
If I work with you, like, I feel like we really connect.
-I think that you would stay in the competition for a while.
-Wow.
You're a little more risky, because it's just gonna get harder and harder and harder.
That's the fun of it.
Come on.
Thank you for making it harder.
Sorry.
Owie.
Ouch.
Ouch.
Ouch.
Ouch.
What I'm gonna do is just go with what my heart's telling me right at this second.
And the winner of this battle is Braiden.
Braiden, stunned, moves on to the knockouts.
-I'm just extremely excited.
-Love you, Gwen! The fact that someone, especially like Gwen Stefani, believes that I can really get through this is just amazing.
I'm going to knockouts.
I mean, who else That's amazing.
I don't know why my voice cracked up there.
Just saying.
Lyndsey, anything you want to say to Gwen? I just want to thank you so much for showing me what it means to be a confident woman on stage and off the stage.
It's been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to even get to sing in front of all fourf you.
Lyndsey elm, everybody.
I'm so sad.
It's okay.
It's okay.
Lyndsey and Braiden That was a tearjerker for me, but Braiden He's a diamond in the rough.
I just had this overwhelming feeling that I just had to take him on the journey further.
I can't wait to see what he does next.
Aw, I feel so bad.
I feel so bad.
I know that was tough.
I'm so emotional.
Braiden's 15.
He's such an unassuming, nice, sweet kid.
I think he's special.
I can't even begin to say how proud I am.
He has made my day.
That's for sure.
-Whoo! -Whoo! Coming up I'll go wherever you will go Adam's artists impress their adviser.
Andi & Alex are little angels.
Down low and chance is very pure.
I'll go wherever you will go you guys just walked in like two unicorns.
If I was 15, I would be losing my mind over you.
But will it be enough this is "the voice" welcome back to night 3 of the battle rounds.
Let's see where our coaches' teams stand.
Blake kept country rocker blind Joe.
Pharrell picked pop R&B vocalist Evan mckeel.
Gwen kept indie artist korin bukowski, used her last steal on soul singer Riley biederer, and picked pop artist Braiden sunshine.
Adam used his final steal on pop rocker Blaine Mitchell, and picked Hungarian pop singer Viktor király.
With only a few steals remaining, let's meet Adam's final pairing of the night.
23-year-old duo Andi & Alex from green bay, Wisconsin, versus 15-year-old chance peña from Tyler, Texas.
Identical twin sisters Andi & Alex have been in a band together since high school.
I got married to my husband, Chris.
We're gonna be having children soon.
And her boyfriend lives in Vancouver, so we're just gonna be split up.
This is kind of our last big shot.
I want to thank you their moving blind audition of dido's "thank you" got all four coaches to push their buttons.
Are you guys sisters? We're twins.
Oh, my God.
I think you guys are one of the most perfectly fitting duos I've ever heard.
Please, please, please.
We pick Adam.
Yes! Growing up around my parents' gyms, I've always been involved in fitness but it just wasn't my thing.
Music is my passion.
High-school sophomore chance peña came to "the voice" with the dream of moving beyond small-town gigs.
And I see fire burn auburn on the mountainside his soulful performance of "I see fire" allowed Adam to help chance realize that dream.
You guys I Screwed up so badly.
I-I so I so did.
Welcome to team Adam.
Thank you.
That was awesome, dude.
Dude, he's amazing.
Wow.
-Hey, buddy.
-What's up? I see Adam, but then I see John fogerty.
-Nice to meet you, Mr.
fogerty.
-Nice to meet you.
He's a legend, and I'm gonna get to work with him.
I can't even wrap my mind around that.
I put you together because you have a richness to your voice, and they sing in a very high register.
I just thought it would be nice together.
So lately been wondering I gave Andi & Alex and chance "wherever you will go" by the calling so that their vocals could pop out, 'cause it's really tricky to get a duo out there with a single singer.
So I'm just trying to do justice by all of them and just see where the chips fall.
Run away with my hope when I first heard I was paired against Andi & Alex, I was kind of worried.
Their voices just go so well together.
To light the shadows on your face chance sounded unreal.
Every time he opens his mouth, I'm just like, "man, you are amazing.
" And this is who we're going up against.
-So that's good.
-That's so great.
-When chance went low -Mm-hmm.
I was wondering about that.
Yeah, I-I think you don't want to be too low so that you're not overwhelmed -by all of the different harmonies that are happening.
-Yeah.
Andi & Alex, figure out exactly what you're doing melodically, -because sometimes it rubs when there's notes out of place.
-Yeah.
Run away with my hope Andi & Alex are little angels sent here to grace "the voice.
" Chance is very pure.
The collaborations were so beautiful.
I'll go wherever you will go for three voices to sound that good together is a rare thing.
It sounded really pristine, and it was just so nice.
Sounded like these big, beautiful cords.
I'll go wherever you will go that was 50,000 times better than the first time.
Yes.
Yes.
This is a great collaboration between the three of you, -so I think it's got to be polished up a tiny bit.
-Yeah.
Lady antebellum they have fantastic three-part harmonies.
Listen to some of those records, maybe, and just, like, hear how they texturize it, 'cause there's a lot of vocals going on.
Yeah.
With their battle near, Andi, Alex, and chance meet with Adam and John fogerty for their final rehearsal.
I'll go wherever you will go going against a duo, there's a risk of being overpowered, but I think showcasing the power of my voice will keep us on a level playing field.
I have one thing that I think will make a huge, huge difference, melodically.
If chance is going, if I could and if you guys, instead of going if I could - then I could -yeah.
-If you're used to the same notes -Don't do the dip.
Yeah.
Literally, just stay on those notes.
-Okay.
-Yeah.
If I could then I would I'll go wherever you will go I love that Adam pinpoints minor things about our performance, because that means that we'll only get better and better.
-It's a vocal masterpiece.
-Yes.
Yes.
So I think it's great that it's three Mike stands.
I think this is the perfect way to present this Equal separation between the twins and between the third party.
-Yeah.
Yeah.
-Not feeling like a third wheel.
Got to make him feel comfortable, guys.
-Yes.
-Absolutely.
Chance is holding strong.
You know, he's getting so much better every five minutes.
There's one that Yeah, the word "mind.
" And your mind are you going all the way up and resolving? -Mm-hmm.
-Make sure we hear the resolve.
-Really get up there.
Okay.
-Okay.
I think you guys are gonna be very surprised at how much people are gonna want that version in their cars or on their I love that.
Such a cool thing.
Yeah.
It's the night of their battle.
Andi, Alex, and chance are about to go head-to-head.
Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, every single one of my family members is pursuing their passion, and I feel like, coming onto this show, I'm doing the same thing.
To win this performance would mean the world to me.
It's a giant step forward to being able to keep doing music together.
This is it.
This is our dream.
Up next I'll stay with you for all of time with only a few steals left Oh, my God.
Our artists leave it all on the stage.
I freakin' love the sound of your voice.
It's candy in my ears.
That is the sound of a steal! This is "the voice" welcome back to the battle rounds.
Battling now from team Adam, it's the twin indie-pop duo from Wisconsin.
Here they ar Andi & Alex.
Versus the 15-year-old aspiring pop singer from Texas, chance peña.
He's so sweet.
Good luck, chance.
Good luck to you.
Let the battle begin.
So lately been wondering who will be there to take my place when I'm gone you'll need love to light the shadows on your face if a great wave shall fall and fall upon us all and then between the sand and stone could you make it on your own? If I could then I would I'll go wherever you will go way up high or down low I'll go wherever you will go so run away with my heart run away with my hope run away with my lo-o-o-o-ve I know now just quite how my life and love might still go on - in your heart -oh, my God.
In your mind I'll stay with you for all of time if I could then I would I'll go wherever you will go way up high ownow I'll go wherever you will go oh, my God.
Seriously.
I'll go wherever you will go-o-o-o-o-o wow.
It was insane.
Let's hear it for Andi & Alex and chance Wasn't that awesome? In a battle for team Adam.
Aches are on their feet.
Blake, we'll start with you.
That was magical.
There's something about a sibling harmony.
It's like nothing else.
So I'm a fan.
I hit my button for y'all, which is bull crap that you didn't pie.
But I'm very happy for you guys.
-Thank you so much.
-Thank you.
Thank you so much.
Chance, you snuck up on me on this one.
Man, I saw the girls, I knew they were really good, and it's like, "this kid He's not even wearing socks.
" He's like "They've already blown his socks off.
" Dude, I freakin' love the sound of your voice.
Thank you.
I thought, going into this, I would've said Andi & Alex, but I would pick chance in this one, myself.
Pharrell? Andi & Alex, what you do when you sing is just nothing short of magic.
You guys just walked in like two unicorns.
It's really fairy-tale land.
That was great.
Thank you so much.
Chance, the way that you sounded was unbelievable.
I felt like your voice led in that performance just because it was the odd man out.
Having that kind of control is really unheard of.
-Thank you.
-Thank you, pharll.
Gwen.
O.
M.
G.
Like, seriously, right now I'm gonna talk valley because that was, like, unbelievable.
I mean, you guys are magic.
The harmonies 'S candy in my ears.
It sounds so good.
Chance, every time you kept singing, I wish I could turn back time.
I kept thinking, "I want to be 15.
" If I was 15, I would have chance's posters in my locker.
I'd have my pee-chee out, and I'd be drawing hearts all over it with "chance + Gwen.
" I would be losing my mind over you.
Thank you.
Obviously, you need to stay on the show.
Thank you.
All right, Adam, you've got the final decision.
You guys were all so good.
Chance, this was tough.
Going against these two who are basically so in sync with each other that you'd think that anyone that is gonna try and compete with that is gonna be totally locked out.
But the sound that is created when the three of you sing together is something real.
I actually believe that a group should be formed between the three of you.
This is the hardest thing I've ever had to decide.
This is brutal.
This is brutal.
Adam, who is the winner of this battle? Um Ugh.
Rub your head.
I-it'd probably be lucky, like a Like Buddha.
The winner of this battle The winner of this battle is Andi & Alex.
Andi & Alex move on to the knockouts.
Oh, my God.
Andi & Alex have the most ethereal brilliance to their performance style.
And that's why I had to go with them.
I cannot believe what just happened.
We're going to knockouts! Aaaaaah! -Okay.
-Sorry.
Coaches, let me remind you chance is available to steal.
Chance, anything you want to say to Adam? Adam, I just want to thank you for this opportunity and for believing in me.
I still do believe in you.
And even the short amount of time -Yeah! -That is the sound of a steal -thank you.
-From Blake Shelton! Aww, baby.
He did it, baby.
Blake Shelton, what was it about his performance? There's something completely magical about your voice, chance.
I guess I missed it in the blind auditions.
You proved that you deserve to.
We're gonna get you some socks.
I really need socks.
Thank you.
We're going to the finale, man.
Blake Shelton steals chance peña.
Congratulations, chance.
We'll see you in the knockouts with your new coach.
So good, man.
I stole chanceecause he's just got this coolness about him.
More than anything, man, he's got a special voice.
Um, it's hard for me to talk.
I'm so proud of him.
Oh, my goodness.
Thank you so much.
-Brother, man, that was unbelievable.
-Thank you.
-Hello.
-Hi.
I saw you up there celebrating or crying or whatever.
-You're still crying? -Yeah.
Aw, man.
Don't cry.
This is a good thing.
-Thank you.
-All right, brother.
Looking forward to it, man.
-Thank you.
I'll see you soon.
-Stop crying.
Wow.
Blake just got a good one.
Hey, listen, he's great.
Whatever you taught him, he listened to you.
He's a heartthrob.
Forget about it.
-You won the show.
-I think I definitely think
