The Voice US (2011) s09e24 Episode Script

Live Semifinals Top 9 Performances

Congratulations.
All right.
Tonight the stakes are at an all-time high.
The top five are fighting to earn your votes.
Tomorrow night it is the biggest elimination of the season.
Only four will advance.
Also tonight our friend ellely golding is here to sing her single, "on my mind" and the cowboy is going to sing his new song.
Cowboy.
Going to kick things off with the Arkansas drama teacher.
Here's more from team Blake, Barrett baber.
Top five.
I don't think I've ever had in my 150 career a song top three.
Let's do it.
Let's do some things that are going to shock some people.
Barrett has taken a lot of country songs and flipped them but he hasn't taken a major pop song and flipped it into what he does.
I was thinking songs and acoustics.
I'm excited about this song.
I kind of had an epiphany into how to make that song a cool song.
I want to swamp it up.
It wants to be swampy.
Going to the river to pray this song talks about overcoming some things that you didn't choose in your life.
With my particular story, being able to overcome immense tragedy and surviving and plane crash.
What I was thinking about the other day the conversation me and you had a couple of years ago.
Man, I'm thinking about giving up.
You're a winner already in life.
Yeah.
Based on your family, your story, your life experience.
I appreciate that.
It keeps me away wow, if you had a heavy handed piano.
Southern gospel feel.
It's kind of a crazy thing to think about collaborating with arguably the best person in country music.
It makes me think this is my path.
We're going from 9 to 4.
We've never done that on this show.
I know.
I'm stressing out about a coach.
I want to see team Blake intact.
We have a shot at that.
I'm ready to sing.
This is going to be so good, man.
With "ghost" please welcome Barrett baber.
I keep going to the river to pray 'cause I need something that can wash out the pain and at most I'm sleeping all these demons away but your ghost the ghost of you it keeps me awake my friends I can figure out you're the soul that's inside of you it's rock hard in another you but your evil was coming through these eyes sitting on the wall well they watch every move I make bright light taking in the shape you go hard makes my spirit shake I had to go through hell to prove I'm not insane had to meet the devil just to know his name and that's when my love was burning yeah it's still burning I keep going to the river to pray 'cause I need something that can wash out the pain and at most I'm sleeping all these demons away but your ghost the ghost of you it keeps me awake each time that I think you go I turn around and you're creeping in and I let you another skin 'cause I love living in the sin oh you never told me true love was gonna hurt true pain its own desert true face that I never learned I keep going to the river to pray 'cause I need something that can wash out the pain and at most I'm sleeping all these demons away but your ghost the ghost of you it keeps me awake I keep going to the river to pray 'cause I need something that can wash out the pain and at most I'm sleeping all these demons away but your ghost the ghost of you it keeps me awake give up the ghost give up the ghost give up the ghost stall the haunting baby give up the ghost give up the ghost give up the ghost no more haunting baby I keep going to the river I keep going to the river to pray 'cause I need something that can wash out the pain and at most I'm sleeping all these demons away but your ghost the ghost of you it keeps me awake I keep going to the river to pray 'cause I need something that can wash out the pain and at most I'm sleeping all these demons away but your ghost the ghost of you it keeps me awake that is Barrett baber, everybody.
The semi-finals are officially underway! All right.
Coaches, pharrell, let's start with you, sir.
Wow.
Wow, man.
What a way to like really just share you'r emotions in the mos purest way possible.
It was a moment like I don't know what happened back home, like in here the mic went out.
You were just bulldozing through, man.
Like that's the way you're supposed to do it when you're tapped into that emotion like that.
Congratulations.
That was a great performance.
Gwen? You know what, the longer you're on the show, the more happy I am for you because I just remember the blinds.
And it's just such a huge dream for you to be here and to have this moment, and I can just see you just enjoying it so much and sharing your talent and it was a really powerful performance.
Thank you.
Adam.
You know, Barrett, I knew you were going to be here at this point, I really did.
I think we all did.
You were always one of the strongest singers, but I definitely could never have told you this was how you were going to be here and doing this at this moment.
I think that I have to applaud both of you guys because it's such a cool interesting choice to have done this at this point for you.
I could never I like that it was very unpredictable and I applaud you for that, man.
You always go so hard at it.
- I love watching you.
- All right.
Your coach, Blake Shelton.
Barrett, I literally feel like I watched you and here's the door to the finale and you just kicked it in.
Like you're just it's crazy.
I don't know that I ever worked with anybody who gives more to their performances than you do.
Let me just say, we better start figuring out what you're going to be doing next week, man.
That's how strongly I feel about what you just did.
- Congratulations.
- If you want Barrett in the finale vote on iTunes.
Give it up from team Blake, Barrett baber.
Well, we're just getting started.
When we come back, shelby brown takes on a powerful country nine are performing, only four will advance to next Monday's finale.
Your votes are critical.
We'll continue with a deeply critical performance from shelby brown.
Hey, shelby.
Hi.
Did I not say we were going to cut the top down.
It's really crazy that I'm charting on iTunes.
It's humbling to know that people want to hear more from me.
Tell me about the song.
It's one of my favorite songs.
I'm kind of scared to do it.
Make people know it.
That's what you should be doing.
Lying there in the streets.
Everything about this song is so emotional and a song like this shows what I want to bring to the table when this is all over and I'm on my own.
Late.
I'm like so fed up with never being on time.
Stop thinking about it so much.
You know when you sing at the bowling alley when it was just something you did for fun, try to get back to the person who loves to just sing.
Each week I struggle with the confidence thing.
I'm really thankful Adam's been here to coach me through that.
I don't know what I'm doing.
I used to be so scared to make a mistake that I would make mistakes.
I feeling like I've made a lot of progress from where I started.
I don't think I could have grown like this had I been working with any other coach.
We're going to do this exercise.
Take this microphone.
I want you to do the song with your back turned to the audience.
I only want you to open your eyes and see those words heaven in my dream, angel cry shelby is as good if not better than all the singers left.
I feel goose bumps with shelby but then the goose bumps go away when you hear her thinking.
- Yeah, shelby! - Singing "even God must get the blues" here is shelby brown.
Pick up any morning paper turn on the 6 o'clock news the devil's been so busy lately that even God must get the blues a young man lies there in the street his life gone like it was nothin' to lose and for the shoes there on his feet yes even God must get the blues when the rain falls down from heaven it must be the angels cryin' for all the sorrow in the world tonight a young girl hides her face in shame so they can't see it's been battered and bruised like she's the one to blame yes even God must get the blues pick up any evening paper turn on the 10 o'clock news the devil's been so busy lately that even God must get the blues yeah even God must get the blues semifinals tonight.
Representing team Adam, that is shelby brown, everybody.
Get some light on the young lady.
Thank you, Paul murkovich.
Your coach is up.
We'll get some comments from Adam in just a minute.
Blake Shelton, let's start with you.
You did sound amazing tonight.
You know, it's interesting watching you, your history with Adam and talking about the timing issues and stuff because it didn't exist tonight.
Like that was you sang beautifully, you sang perfectly in time, you sang perfectly in tune.
I mean, it was wow, shelby.
Congratulations.
That was so good.
Thank you.
Pharrell? I I, too, was as you were singing I was just asking myself I was like, what is there to be nervous about? Like I don't understand.
Right now I'm just seeing confidence, and I say that because I felt like you connected to the moment so well, you know, and that's really what it takes to get through a performance like that.
I'm just trying to figure out what confidence issues? You did very well to me.
- Thank you.
- Gwen? I agree.
I kept waiting because of all of the anticipation of you being so nervous, crying, dramatic, mad at your self.
It was like you literally had no nerves.
You were so calm.
And I think my favorite performance of you because you sang so like under stated tonight.
I love that part of your voice where you're not belting and you're just calm and gentle and it's so warm and you're a really good singer.
Wow.
Coach.
No confidence issues.
Great timing.
What did you think? Shelby, you have driven me so crazy.
- The feeling is mutual.
- Someone agrees with you.
But but and I know I drive you crazy, too, but you Let me just tell you guys something.
This girl, especially after what she's done tonight, deserves to be voted through to the finale.
And I'm telling you that I'm telling I'm telling America that, but I'm also telling you that because you have made me so beyond proud tonight.
You've conquered all of the demons and you've stood up here.
You're 17 years old.
I still can't believe that.
It shocked me.
And every single week you get better and better.
And, man, vote this girl through.
This girl needs to be in the finale.
If you want shelby in the finale vote on the Facebook app.
Let's hear it for shelby brown.
Coming up straight ahead, jeffery Austin's interpretation of a Cher classic.
And then it's all right.
Welcome back to "the voice.
" Busy night tonight.
You are voting for the four artists you want to see in next week's finale.
Voting is on the app.
All the other voting mechanisms are open at the end of the show.
We'll continue with team Gwen's passionate performer who's putting his twist on a Cher song.
Here's jeffery Austin.
I can.
My hands are so cold.
Are you ready? Yeah.
Is that cold? Feeling me up.
You have soft skin.
Thank you.
Never seen the light of day.
Pretty big cuts.
I'm so excited and really terrified to start working on it.
I was shocked because the song is so produced.
The way that I have planned to do it kind of feels on the lyrics.
I need love to feel strong my personal journey on this show really connects to the song because I believe I can be successful at something that I've always wanted to do.
That's so trippy.
It almost becomes like an Elton John song.
So classic.
I would want that version.
But it's still very me.
Jeffery is really clear on what he wants to do.
He is definitely one of the best singers.
Ginger nation.
Ginger nation.
Made it through.
At this point people know you from your interviews, your hands.
They're voting because they care about you.
Get closer to them.
Okay.
There are a lot of times when you're singing up, you look up, have a worried look.
If you can take a few lines and get real with your facial expressions.
Like I can't do that.
Gwen hasn't let me get away with not sharing who I am.
You're really being believable it will just come out naturally.
Especially when the song is at the end.
I don't want to close up all the time so I'm working on that.
I feel really good.
I can't believe it.
Perfect.
And singing "believe" please welcome jeffery Austin.
No matter how hard I try, you keep pushing me aside and I can't break through.
There's no talking to you so sad that you're leaving it takes time to believe it but after all is said and done, you're gonna be the lonely one oh, do you believe in life after love I can feel something inside, I really don't think you're strong enough now do you believe in life after love I can feel it inside, you really don't think you're strong enough now what am I supposed to do sit around and wait for you I can't do that there's no turning back I need time to move on I need love to feel strong because I'll have time to think it through yeah, maybe I'm too good for you now do you believe in life after love I can feel me turning back, I really don't think you're strong enough now but I know that I'll get through this and I know that I'll get strong I don't need you anymore no, I don't need you anymore I don't need you anymore I don't need you anymore do you believe in life after love I can feel something inside, I really don't think you're strong enough now do you believe in life after love I can feel something inside me saying I really don't think you're strong enough now note yeah that is jeffery Austin, everybody.
Going to the semi-finals trying to become one of four to make it to the finals tonight.
Blake Shelton.
All right.
Let me start by saying I hope all three of my artists make it in the finale, but you, jeffery, just proved that you absolutely deserve to be in the freaking finale, man.
There is a way to do that song.
I will not be surprised if that's the number one most downloaded song this week.
Wow.
I won't be surprised.
That's so cool.
- So cool.
- Let's go to your coach.
Gwen.
Hi, you're awesome.
Can I just say to the tv land people, obviously he's going to the final.
He's ridiculously talented.
I mean, please just vote for him right now because that singing is crazy! You are so incredible, so incredible.
Vote for this guy right now, please.
If you want Jeff in the finale you can vote on nbc.

We are so excited to be here at "the voice" tonight.
There's so much incredible talent you guys have.
Bravo.
Yeah, it just makes us actually want to sing ourselves.
I love it.
Little bit.
I know.
What? We have a little bit of time.
We want to hear what you You want us to sing? You want us to sing? I don't know, I mean, so last-minute.

Thank you, Ellie! All right.
Coming up, Braiden sunshine.
And welcome back.
The live semi-finals are happening tonight.
Don't forget, if your favorite artist's song is in the top ten at the close of voting, their iTunes downloads will be multiplied by ten.
That is absolutely crucial tonight.
We'll begin with the youngest artist who was instantly saved last week.
Here's more from team Gwen's Braiden sunshine.
- Hi, Mr.
sunshine.
- Braiden sunshine, you are moving on.
Hi.
Saved by America.
That's amazing.
We're in the semi-finals, you know, but next week is insane because it's being cut down from 9 to 4.
Your instincts are right on.
Amazing grace everything that happened in the past few days led to this song.
I got saved.
I'm here.
My journey on "the voice" has been extremely eye opening.
Gwen is like a mom to me.
She helped me believe in myself so I really don't want to go home.
Sorry.
This is actually quite a huge thing that you've taken on.
The good news is that you can do it, you just have to map it out to make it build and do all the things you want to do.
Now in this song I'm noticing you do this it's great but you're doing it a lot.
I wish my voice hadn't changed over just the course of this.
Has it? Yeah.
I can't really wrap my head around how young he is, and people at home don't realize how much work it is to be on the show.
It's learning songs, it's long hours, it's a lot of pressure.
For a 15-year-old boy to get to the semi-final, he's a star now.
How are you doing? I'm starting to emotionally fall apart.
Don't let your brain go there.
It's a waste of time.
You've risen up to be the star that you're meant to be.
Thank you for telling me that.
I can't wait until Monday.
Say, bye.
I love you, bye.
- See ya.
- With "amazing grace" please welcome Braiden sunshine.
Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me I once was lost but now I'm found was blind but now I see 'twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed amazing grace how sweet the sound lights shining at the stars we've no less days to sing God's praise then when we first begun amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me I once was lost but now I'm found was blind but now I see I once was blind but now I am found was blind but now I see that is the youngest of the competition, Braiden sunshine representing team Gwen who you instantly saved last week.
Mom, dad, grandma in the audience tonight.
Let's get some comments from our coaches.
Adam, we'll start with you.
You know, your journey on the show has been the most unique and interesting because you came on a kid and you're still a kid but you're that much more seasoned and you've grown so much.
And she's done so much to kind of propel you forward.
And like your hair changed all the time, your song choices were crazy.
You didn't ever really find one thing with but you kind of prov everybody that you could do everything.
You have to be so happy with every single thing, this being like the exclamation point tonight.
- Great job.
- Pharrell.
Hey, man.
As you were singing I was thinking to myself, man, this kid is giving so much hope to kids who are like 10 years old, 11 years old and 12.
You know, because the thing is, your voice has changed but you still have this like I can still see you, like there's a kid there and I think like to be doing what you're doing live on television in front of the nation, you're like shining the light for a lot of kids and you're inspiring them.
There's a lot of kids watching you now, like I can do that because Braiden just did it.
Thank you.
Gwen Stefani.
Braiden sunshine, wow.
I mean, to watch you get up there and sing a song that he was like convinced that this was like meant to be and he had this like calling to do this song.
And the way you did it, how beautifully you did it, the tone in your voice and just how you held back in the beginning and then you just went all the way there.
It was so spiritual and so beautiful and vote for this guy.
Obviously he's 15 years old.
He needs to still be on the show.
If you want Braiden in the sfi nal Lee you can vote on nbc.
Com, "the voice" Facebook page, the official "voice" app and by downloading Braiden's song on iTunes.
Let's hear it for Braiden sunshine.
Congratulations.
All right, we'll tell you when we come back Zach seabaugh put everything on the line with an unfortunately only four are going to move on to next week's finale.
Make sure your favorites make it all the way to the end.
We're going to continue with teen Blake's hearthrob showing his sense stiff side with a miley Cyrus song.
Here's more from Zach seabaugh.
Congratulations, buddy.
Thank you.
How much fun was it for you? So much fun.
I'm over there.
I've got to be cool I looked over at you.
As soon as I did it, girls over here, then I looked back at Gwen.
She was like, yes, she's doing it.
But now we're getting serious.
Yeah.
This is your theme song, right? It really is.
You think of the lyrics of this song, climbing this Mountain, having all of these hardships, going to the other side.
It's one big dream come true.
It's a very important message that I think everyone can relate to.
You know what, Zach, I think you need to go there right now.
This is it.
You've got to swing for the fence.
My concern is the pocket is way behind.
There's nothing wrong with this song, standing there George straight.
George straight has a reputation of standing in front of the microphone, playing his guitar and singing.
It's becoming a theme.
Are you going to George straight it or walking around, rascall flatts it.
Going to be an uphill battle.
Yeah! The first time I sang for a big crowd was at the 9/11 Memorial Day that my dad had actually organized.
I guess you could say, I was overcome by the message of the music.
Really at that moment I realized the power of the music.
Now I hope that with this song I can do the same thing, really get the message across.
Dad? Yeah.
Doesn't he look like me? Oh, identical.
This kid's amazing, man.
Been fun to watch him grow on the show.
You've done a great job with him.
I think this is going to be a big opportunity for Zach.
Vocally it pushes him further than he's ever been pushed - before this season.
- With "the climb" please welcome Zach seabaugh.
I can almost see it that dream I'm dreaming but there's a voice inside my head sayin you'll never reach it every step I'm taking every move I make feels lost with no direction my faith is shaking but I got to keep trying got to keep my head held high there's always going to be another Mountain I'm always gonna wanna make it move always going to be an uphill battle sometimes I'm gonna have to lose ain't about how fast I get there ain't about what's waiting on the other side it's the climb the struggles I'm facing the chances I'm taking sometimes might knock me down but no I'm not breaking I may not know it but these are the moments that I'm going to remember most yeah just got to keep going and I I got to be strong just keep pushing on, cause there's always going to be another Mountain I'm always gonna wanna make it move always gonna be an uphill battle sometimes I'm gonna have to lose ain't about how fast I get there ain't about what's waiting on the other side it's the climb yeah there's always going to be another Mountain I'm always gonna wanna make it move always gonna be an uphill battle sometimes I'm gonna have to lose ain't about how fast I get there ain't about what's waiting on the other side it's the climb yeah yeah ea ea keep on moving keep climbing keep the faith baby it's all about it's all about the climb keep the faith keep your faith whoa a oh oh Zach seabaugh trying to make it to the finale.
Coach Gwen, we'll start with you.
Why am I not in high school and I could like I could have my locker and I could have all of his pictures in there taped in there? What is happening? That was so good.
Like that's one of my favorite songs ever, and to see you do a song like that at this point in the competition, I'm scared.
Like I have a feeling that you're going through for sure, actually.
- Thank you.
- Adam? Just like I'm not going to talk about anything other than the fact that like it just seems like I'm so proud of everybody at this point because everyone is so good.
The improvement that has taken place.
Where you are now, just like with everybody who performs tonight, everyone is just so professional and so poised and so special.
Every single one.
Every last nine of these guys.
I don't know, man.
You're no different.
I'm so proud of you.
So proud of everybody.
Thank you.
Coach Blake.
Hey, Zach, there was a There was a part of that song where it talks about how important these moments are right now, and it's so true.
Watching you.
No matter what happens from here, this is so cool.
I want to say that I kind of think I know what's going to happen from here.
That was your best performance of the season 9 of "the voice" so far, man.
So good.
Perfect timing, man! Thank you.
If you want Zach in the finale you can vote on nbc "the voice" Facebook, the official "voice" app.
Down loading Zach.
Give it up for Zach seabaugh.
After the break madi Davis sings welcome back, we're live with the top nine.
This is the semi-finals.
You can listen to all top nine songs on apple music.
We'll continue with team pharrell's last remaining artist in a feel good song that showcases her voice.
Here's more from madi Davis.
Big girls don't cry this is one of my all-time favorite songs.
I'm just saying.
A lot of that has to do with the lightheartedness of that song.
How did you hear of that song? You're 16.
I do the song because it makes me happy.
It was the most simple thing I had done.
This week the semi-finals are a big deal and this song needs to be a big deal.
This is going to be a really special performance.
Madi continues to just like love the topography.
There was more comfort in the vocals when you were playing just now.
It takes me back playing those shows where no one is listening.
I would play that song and it would just be for me.
Cool.
You be so he focused on the music and don't let the stuff get to you.
How do you do it? I used to be really closed off and I never really trusted anyone with my art but then I would do the show an thing is to get better, collaborate, the band, you obviously.
A lot of that just has to do with being open.
It's impossible not to become a better version of yourself when all of these people are cheering you on and one of those people in particular is pharrell Williams.
Whew, yeah.
He loves the little intricacies of my voice that I thought were kind of flaws.
Make sure you put that in there.
The background, can they do like three part harmony? That will be amazing.
They'll be like the little birds behind you.
Do you like it? Love it.
You sound amazing.
You don't have to fan me.
I've got to.
- I got to make sure you're cool.
- With "big girls don't cry" here is madi Davis.
Big girls, don't cry big girls don't cry big girls don't cry big girls don't cry they don't cry my girl said good-bye my girl didn't cry, I wonder why hope that she will go then she said to my surprise, big girls don't cry big girls don't cry big girls don't cry baby, oh, it was true baby, I'm a fool I'm such a fool shame on you, your mama said shame on you, you're crying in bed shame on you, you told a lie big girls do cry one more girl, we had to break up hope that she would call my bluff then she said to my surprise, big girls do cry big girls don't cry oh, big girls don't cry big girls cry big girls cry big girls don't cry they don't cry that is madi Davis, and the last remaining artist for pharrell.
Good job, madi.
Good job.
Love it.
Look at that.
Isn't that great? Every time you sing "big girls don't cry" your dad started to cry.
Dad does cry.
Adam levine, what did you think of that? I think first of all, I really wanted to be hanging out at that place.
It was so serene, beautiful, romantic, that was a really cool set.
I actually want to hang there.
Then I was listening to your vocal.
Wow, this is the most different thing I've ever heard on the show because it's so different.
And I love the fact that it was where it was in the season because, you know, everyone is doing a million different things.
This was very unexpected.
I think that's the coolest, coolest thing about it.
- Awesome.
- Blake? Thank you so much.
Man, I literally felt like I was watching like a like a Disney movie or something right then, but like not something live.
It was too perfect to be live.
That was too perfect to be live.
What? So it's going to be my three in the finale and you, I guess.
Madi, what does coach pharrell have to say? I couldn't sit down.
Tried to sit down a couple of times.
It's mainly because that production was amazing and And you sang it like you're prepared for Broadway or film, and then I have to remind myself that you're 16 years old so, I mean, we have to figure out how that happens.
But like dude, you were like an actress.
Too perfect to be live! That was insane.
And the crazy thing is like Actually, you got your dad The song should be called big guys do cry because you've got your dad crying down there.
And like last but not least, America needs to vote madi Davis through.
If you want madi in the finale, you can vote on nbc.
Com, on the Facebook page, the official "voice" app and by downloading madi's song.
Let's hear it for madi Davis.
The last remaining artist on team pharrell.

Coming up, Emily Ann Roberts sings a number one Dolly parton well, we are live on nbc with your top nine semi-finalists going tonight on "the voice.
" It's a big night.
We'll continue it now with one of our perform maps from the 17-year-old Tennessee country artist who's singing an iconic song from one of her eye dolls.
Here's more now from Emily Ann Roberts.
Headed to rehearsal with Blake and I'm going to do a Dolly parton song.
It makes me really nervous to do this song because she's going to be here.
Like I'm speechless right now.
When Brad paisley was here Brad was saying you reminded him of a young Dolly parton.
Only certain artists can blend country, east Tennessee blue grass sound.
This would be the perfect one.
Jumping in the shower and the blood starts pumping Dolly parton represents the type of artist that I want to be.
She can rip at your heart whenever she is singing a sad love song.
She's from my same area in east Tennessee.
I've grown up going to dollywood.
I remember getting Dolly parton cds from Christmas.
What do you think when you perform? I want to have the moment where I can command the stage and be sassy.
That is having so much fun.
It's your turn.
You need to teach me your moves.
Don't stand up there and be awkward.
Don't do that 9 to 5, for service and devotion the message of this song is about hard work.
My first working experience was with my dad.
When he was younger he fell and broke his back and the doctors told him that he would never walk.
My dad never gave up.
He started walking again.
He taught me that it means so much to work hard and earn what you have.
The only thing is learning where to breathe on this.
There's so much going on, like lyrically.
I do think you can work the stage, the band is up here, you have some girl power with the backup singers.
I want the focus to be on how good you sound.
The song was meant for you.
Will you do me one fwafr, will you wear cowboy boots for it? When am I not wearing them.
That's my girl.
Singing "9 to 5" please welcome Emily Ann Roberts.
Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen pour myself a cup of ambition yawn and stretch and try to come to alive jump in the shower and the blood starts pumpin' out on the street the traffic starts jumpin' with folks like me on the job from 9 to 5 workin' 9 to 5 what a way to make a livin' barely gettin' by it's all takin' and no givin' they just use your mind and they never give you credit it's enough to drive you crazy if you let it 9 to 5, for service and devotion you would think that I would deserve a fat promotion want to move ahead but the boss won't seem to let me I swear sometimes that man is out to get me! They let you dream just to watch 'em shatter you're just a step on the boss-man's ladder but you got dreams he'll never take away you're in the same boat with a lotta your friends waitin' for the day your ship'll come in an' the tide's gonna turn and it's all gonna roll your way workin' 9 to 5 what a way to make a livin' barely gettin' by it's all takin' and no givin' they just use your mind and you never get the credit it's enough to drive you crazy if you let it 9 to 5, yeah they got you where they want you there's a better life and you dream about it don't you? It's a rich man's game no matter what they call it and you spend your life puttin' money in his wallet jump in the shower and the blood starts pumping and out on the street the traffic starts jumping with folks like me on the job from 9 to 5 workin' 9 to 5 what a way to make a livin' barely gettin' by it's all takin' and no givin' they just use your mind and you never get the credit it's enough to drive you crazy if you let it I swear sometimes that man is out to get me 9 to 5, what a way to make a living barely getting by, it's all taking and no giving they just use your mind, they never give you credit it's enough to drive you crazy if you threat 9 to 5 it's getting serious tonight.
The semifinals, that is Emily Ann robertson with team Blake trying to be one of the four that move on.
Nice job, Emily Ann.
Mom, dad, your sister here tonight.
Love this audience.
Love this.
Great job.
By the way, your idol's going to be here tomorrow night, Dolly parton.
Gwen Stefani, we'll start with you.
Sit down, cowboy.
Wow.
That vocal was crazy.
I don't understand how you can sing that perfect.
That is such a hard song to sing, and it was so good.
But my favorite thing that I saw, you did this last time, too.
Your kind of crazy kookie, that spunky thing came out.
I love that.
I want to see more of that.
Blake? Emily, you know how I feel about ya.
If I was like somebody that owned a record company or ran a record company, I would right now be like calling around trying to figure out because you're going to make somebody so much money.
I mean hey, let me tell you this.
You've got to be going to the finale.
You have to be going to the finale.
- Ridiculous.
- If you want Emily Ann in the finale vote at nbc.
Com, the Facebook app, by downloading the iTunes here.
Let's hear it for Emily Ann Roberts.
We're getting down to it.
Amy vachal sings and then Jordan Smith will close out tonig welcome back to the semi-finals.
Give it up for Paul merkovich and the band.
Paul on accordion tonight.
Excellent job.
Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
We'll continue with the Brooklyn singer/songwriter.
Here's more from Amy vachal.
Do you believe that all of us are still here, the entire team? It's insane.
Hello.
I am going to perform it.
The little girl in me is breaking out.
Thinking back to the day that I decided to audition to this moment.
The top nine of season nine.
Just really realizing what a blessing this has been and just just being thankful.
There's nothing that I wouldn't do to make you feel my love talk about this song.
I just really wanted to play a song that was straight from the heart to the audience.
Good.
Good time for a heart felt moment.
Yeah.
You've done a lot of really cool things.
You have to show them the songwriter side of yourself.
Yeah.
Everyone this week is going to be doing big, knockdown drag out songs.
This is Amy's window not to do that.
This is her chance to have an emotional raw moment.
Tweak the structure of it.
Imagine the Nora Jones record, very, very simple.
And I think that for you, Amy, you need to open up a bit towards the end.
Yeah.
To make you feel my love really put everything out there on the line.
I want to go onto the finale and this week I just want to be as real as possible.
I just want to be me.
It's time to show them I want to be through to the end of it.
As long as you're totally connected, it's going to be - beautiful.
- With "to make you feel my love" here is Amy vachal.
When the rain is blowing in your face and the whole world is on your case I could offer a warm embrace to make you feel my love when evening shadows and the stars appear and there is no one there to dry your tears I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love I know you haven't made your mind up yet but I would never do you wrong I've known it from the moment that we met no doubt in my mind where you belong I'd go hungry I'd go black and blue I'd go crawling down the Avenue and oh, there's nothing that I wouldn't do to make you feel my love the storms are raging on the rolling sea and on the highway of regret the winds of change are blowing wild and free you ain't seen nothing like me yet I could make you happy make your dreams come true nothing that I wouldn't do go to the ends of the earth for you to make you feel my love to make you feel my love to make you feel my love that is Amy vachal, team Adam, the semi-finals tonight.
What a night of music.
What a difficult night tomorrow congratulations, Amy.
That was beautiful.
Family in the house.
Let's get to pharrell here, your former coach.
What did you think? Sang that the Brooklyn way.
That was that was nice.
Your voice seems like it's made, you know, what beautiful clouds are made of, you know.
It seemed like when you sang this now like the stars would come out to assist that moment.
That was beautiful, it was light, and honestly with all the crazy things going on in the world, like we need those crazy people to hear that voice, to see some clarity and see some good because that's what your voice ignites.
It ignites like somebody wanting - to do the right thing.
- Thank you, pharrell.
Coach Adam.
You know, Amy, we did exactly what we wanted to do tonight, and if you guys noticed in here, everybody watching at home, too, this room completely froze and stopped.
And all.
Energy was focused on you, and I'm sure that was really intense to feel.
We set out to create a different kind of moment.
There are so many different ways to sing.
Especially on this show it's very big and over the top all the time, but what's special about you, Amy, is that you do it in a way that is completely different and refreshingly raw, and honest, and beautiful.
As far as that's concerned, do you that better than anybody on the show.
I am so proud of you.
If you want Amy in the finale you can vote on the official Facebook app and download the song.
Thank you, Amy.
We'll end with team Adam's inspiring player.
Tonight on the voice is unforgettable.
I've made so many great friendships.
I would have never believed you if you told me six months ago I had a song charting.
Sorry, you'll have to settle.
I know.
Pesky Adele.
She's just sitting there like, hello.
Hey! I think we've earned ourselves a week to kind of branch out because I think this song has more pep in its step.
Growing up I loved Freddy Mercury's voice.
This is an incredible song.
I've really emerged since I was a child that's my joyous space.
I have been saved! Okay.
I had the crazy idea of doing it with the choir.
It would be more of a moment.
I love being in a choir and being part of a choir.
I'm talking like a real gospel choir.
We need to have some fun.
This is the perfect way to do it today I'm gonna be loved Jordan is unstoppable.
You'd think he couldn't impress us more.
When he lets go, he's ridiculous.
He's like kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, lebron James of "the voice.
" I want you to go totally bonkers.
Okay.
Let's bring it home.
Somebody to love so good! I love it! All right.
Here we go, closing out the night with "somebody to love" this is Jordan Smith.
Can anybody find me somebody to love ooh, each morning I get up I die a little can barely stand on my feet take a look at yourself take a look in the mirror and cry and cry lord what you're doing to me yeah yeah I have spent all my years in believing you but I just can't get no relief, lord! From the semi-finals tonight.
The crowd is standing up.
The family.
Love that! In the house.
Live on the show tonight.
The room electrified for the final performance tonight from Jordan Smith.
Fireworks, literally.
Wow! Declaring it a drop the mic moment.
I have to.
I had to.
Let's go ahead, buddy.
Adam, what do you say? All right.
I've got ten seconds and then we're off the air.
I don't need to say anything at all because that's one of the best things I've ever seen in my - whole life.
- If you want Jordan in the finale, you can vote on nbc.
Com, the voice Facebook page, the official voice app and by downloading Jordan's song on iTunes.
Give it up for Jordan Smith.
