The Voice US (2011) s14e14 Episode Script

The Knockouts, Part 3

1 Tonight Every performance, I thought, "What if I'm not good enough?" You're here.
You have nothing else to prove.
Really go for it.
Be the best version of you as an artist that you can be.
People want to get to know you guys.
Yes.
They're gonna invest in your career.
Fallin' in and out This is your first time to really be like, "This is who I am as an artist," so just really dig in.
Oh, oh, oh, I Never felt this way DALY: will be fought I'm in a New York state of mind Yes! Mind - It was amazing! - [Laughs.]
It was amazing! I feel like that was the finale.
This is world-class talent.
DALY: and the most difficult decisions This is crazy.
I don't know, man.
will lead to second chances.
KELLY: I'm the only coach with one save and one steal left, so I have to be super careful who I use it for.
DALY: But with two other steals left in play I have a steal, and Blake has a steal.
anything can happen.
Whoa! We've got a save! Whoo! And we've got a steal! The biggest night of knockouts Yeah! starts now! My adviser, their mentor.
I remember this moment for you.
I remember it exactly.
So, I want you to be honest with them today.
All right.
ALICIA: I paired Britton and Dallas because they're my two youngest, they both have a folksy vibe, and I think that they fit together.
- Hi.
What's up? - Hi.
How's it going? This is Chris Blue.
How you doing, man? Oh, I'm sorry.
Ladies first, ladies first.
Chris Blue.
It was so meaningful to have him in the room and just the advice that he's able to give you, just from being in your shoes, I think is cool.
I know who you are.
- You're freaking awesome.
- Oh, bless you, bro.
This is the first time we've had previous winners as the advisers.
Yeah.
It's dope.
That's awesome.
Nobody understands what you guys are going through better than him, not even me.
I'm liking this jacket.
That's nice.
I don't get to dress like this at home.
[Laughter.]
BRITTON: I'm from Sanford, North Carolina.
Sanford it's kind of slow around here.
While everyone else is making friends and partying, I was just this 17-year-old that just happened to be in bars every Friday and Saturday night.
This game is called "Everyone loses, except for me.
" My family is really supportive of my music, and "The Voice" is very special to me because it's just a very positive environment.
I've been saved by a woman For real?! That right there?! Ooh! Alicia is one of the greatest people I've ever met.
Just being around Alicia, I've learned there is a way to stay in this industry and still be a regular person.
I may fool you, but I don't get to hang out with celebrities all the time.
Some folks like to get away They take a holiday I love Billy Joel.
It really kind of fits in with that singer/songwriter vibe that I shoot for.
I'm in a New York state of mind Being from a small town, New York was the first big city I ever went to.
When you walk through New York, you just kind of feel this history.
I was always dreaming about going back.
And it comes down to reality And that's fine with me, 'cause I've let it slide CHRIS: Britton's got a new, soulful, bluesy, out-of-this-world swag.
Do you hear the tone in this guy's voice? I love this song for you, and it suits your your range and your style and your tone.
I love it.
Is this the first time you sang it or you sing it a lot? No, I sing it in my shows all the time.
- Excellent.
- I usually play piano.
- You usually play piano? - Yeah.
Just sayin'.
You would've shocked the world, I'm telling you.
Somehow, he slipped up and told me he played piano.
I said, "Oh, oh, oh.
You were gonna try and let that go and not tell me?" Nah, you're gonna play.
[Chuckles.]
And can I have a bed? - [Laughs.]
- A pillow? A blanket? Make it two.
I'm coming down.
Make it two.
Hop a flight to Miami Beach I'm playing piano in front of Alicia Keys.
She's a classically trained pianist.
I was like, "Oh, my God.
" Living day by day, yeah Can I walk? Out of touch with So we came up with a really great way for him to kind of work the stage and not be too shy, to, like, give it a try.
What happens if you held the word "all" just a little bit? I left them all behind - Yeah.
- Slow it down right there.
ALICIA: He's 18 years old, and it's like, he continues to wow me, so I love how he's growing.
Adam's gonna be so jealous.
[Laughs.]
Block button, baby! [Laughs.]
That's so dirty! I love it! Good stuff.
All right, Dallas, we're switching.
All right.
DALLAS: Britton he's so confident and amazing when he goes up and performs, so I feel like if I can bring that confidence, it'll really transform my performance, too.
I set out on a narrow way This is a perfect song for me because I was raised on old, classic country, and I want to bring that sound to new, modern country music.
Along a broken road I have a very musical family.
My grandpa would sing a lot, so I was surrounded by music at a very young age.
Over the rainbow I just graduated, so I've just been working on music at home.
I've been posting covers, so working with Blake, it's something that I'm really grateful for.
Spensha, congratulations.
DALLAS: The thought of it being over was, like, really heartbreaking.
I think being the only country artist on Team Alicia really gives me my own lane.
She really feels like country music and soul music are really connected.
I really want to make it to the live playoffs, and I just want to continue to learn and grow.
I couldn't see how every sign Pointed straight to you - Yeah, yeah! - All right! Nice.
Is there any part of this that wants to feel more broken down to you? It's a little, like, fast.
She's spoken to me about this, you know, in the past.
Like, you want to be, like, so on top of every beat and, you know, make sure we're in sync, but it's okay if you just slow it down a little bit, lay back in it.
Yeah.
And create the space that you need.
If you're a little bit behind the beat, just a little Okay.
it'll start to feel like it's not so rushy.
You have such a beautiful voice.
Thank you.
Thanks.
Like, I want to hear it.
I want to hear more of it.
My feedback from blinds and in my battle was that I come off really nervous.
I don't want to come off that way.
Sometimes if you are standing in front of this Mm-hmm.
it gives you a second to just like ground and then you're solid.
You're, like, right here, and it looks very confident.
When I would walk out and I would look at Alicia, and once I just had that moment of just like, eye contact, I ain't got to worry about you no more.
- Right.
- I got it.
When you know how it gets real big and then it comes down to the very, very end of the song, but what if you got big right there and then broke it down for the last two lines? That God blessed the broken road That led me straight to you - Whatever you want to do.
- Yeah.
That led me straight to you Vocally, I think Dallas has a lot.
She's young, and there's a lot more exploring that she's gonna do, but Britton's got something really nice he's working with.
This knockout's gonna be crazy.
I'm glad I ain't gotta make this decision.
Remember, believe in yourselves.
She picked you already, so that pressure is done.
ALICIA: The winner of the knockout is definitely going to be the one that wows us the most.
[Cheers and applause.]
- Yeah! - Whoo-hoo! With "New York State of Mind," here's Britton Buchanan.
Some folks like to get away They take a holiday From the neighborhood Hop a flight to Miami Beach Or to Hollywood Hollywood Me, I'm takin' a Greyhound On the Hudson River line I'm in a New York state of mind It was so easy Livin' day by day, oh, yeah Out of touch With the rhythm and blues, yeah But now I need a little Give and take The New York Times The Daily News And it comes down to reality And that's fine with me 'Cause I've let it slide I don't care if it's Chinatown Or Riverside, no I don't have any reasons I left them all behind [Applause.]
I'm in a New York state of Mind Oh Oh, yeah [Cheers and applause.]
Yeah, Britton! Yeah, man! I love that, dude.
I know! He's a good guy! He's a good guy! Whoo-hoo-hoo! Whoo-hoo-hoo! Yes, Britton! Now singing "Bless the Broken Road," here is Dallas Caroline.
I set out on a narrow way Many years ago Hoping I would find true love Along the broken road But I got lost a time or two Wiped my brow, kept pushing through I couldn't see how every sign Pointed straight to you Every long-lost dream Led me to where you are Others who broke my heart They were like Northern stars Pointing me on my way Into your loving arms This much I know is true That God blessed the broken road That led me straight to you That God blessed the broken road That led me straight To you [Cheers and applause.]
- Oh, Britton.
- [Laughs.]
ADAM: That name signifies the first time that the block was ever brought into play.
I couldn't get you, Britton, on my team, but at least you weren't on Blake's team.
[Laughter.]
Blake's the one who blocked me, by the way, so you guys know.
He had [Cheers and applause.]
Security, please remove those people.
Um, and, Dallas, you broke my heart, also.
I wasn't blocked when I turned around for you, but you just straight-up didn't choose me.
[Laughs.]
I see the progress in in the both of you.
But I have to go with you, Britton, just 'cause you're Britton.
Thank you.
Thanks.
- Hi, Dallas.
- Hi.
There's something about how pure your tone is.
I thought you did a great job.
And, Britton, are you the guy that I used my block on, uh [Laughter.]
I, uh [Laughs.]
[Fake sobbing.]
[Laughter.]
I love those blocks.
I-I do.
Every time you get onstage, you just got a style and a and a coolness about you that's that's undeniable.
[Cheers and applause.]
If I was choosing, I got to give it to my girl Dallas.
[Cheers and applause.]
Britton, this was almost like a really soulful crooner-type thing.
Like, you almost have this like old-school Rat Pack thing about you, as well, that I never saw before.
Dallas, you're a storyteller, and if you could just rein in that pitch any time you're pitchy, I think that you could be really cool, man.
What you could represent is almost Dolly-like.
Your record could be something unlike any other girl right now in country music.
Thank you.
DALY: Alicia, it all comes down to you.
Give us some thoughts on those performances.
I think, Dallas, you talked about being stable at the mic and really catching your energy, your breath, your space, and then starting to move around.
- You did a beautiful job.
- Thank you.
I was really glad you conquered that.
Absolutely.
[Cheers and applause.]
And, Britton, you, too.
I mean, you wanted to try something new.
That's the beginning of how you get better and better and get more confident, and so I'm really proud of both of you for doing that.
That was accomplished.
[Cheers and applause.]
DALY: Alicia, who's the winner of this knockout? [Dramatic music plays.]
The winner of this knockout is Britton.
[Cheers and applause.]
Britton, congratulations.
ALICIA: Dallas did a beautiful job, but Britton continues to just evolve.
- Nice job, Britton! - Thank you so much.
ALICIA: When he opens his mouth, he's shocking 'cause you're not expecting years of feelings to come out of an 18-year-old.
Coaches, let me remind you, Dallas is available to steal.
Dallas, anything you want to say to your coach, please? I just want to say thank you so much and I feel like my confidence has improved just working with you and getting to know you, and thank you.
Give it up for Dallas Caroline, ladies and gentlemen.
BLAKE: I didn't steal Dallas because I feel like she's just about a year away from really being able to win this show.
DALY: Coming up Creole Lady Marmalade DALY: our former champions advise the artists on how it's done - It's so acrobatic.
- Thank you.
When you're running around, it's right on perfect pitch.
Be the best version of you as an artist that you can be.
It's the climb DALY: leading to some of the best knockouts we've ever seen - 'Cause I don't want to lose you - Yeah! I feel like that was the finale.
That was the finale.
DALY: and tough decisions for our coaches You need to talk? You need to talk to me? and the artists.
And we've got a save! There it is, the steal! Don't go away.
"The Voice" will be back in just 60 seconds.
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the knockouts.
I love that you were on Blake's team and now you're on mine.
- I do, too.
- I love it! - I do, too.
- [Laughs.]
- Oh, here they are! - Hi! KELLY: I put D.
R.
and Tish together because nobody has that kind of power on my team, except for these two.
I just wanted it to be fair.
[Both chanting "Cassadee".]
- Hi! - Hey! [Both chanting "Kelly".]
This is Cassadee Pope, y'all, Season 3 winner.
Ah! I wish everybody greeted me like that.
Hi, guys! When I saw that Cassadee Pope was our adviser, I was just like, wow.
This is such an amazing experience and you learn so much and you just take deep breaths and, like, have fun and show your personality and that is so important.
- Yes.
- Yeah.
People want to get to know you guys.
Yes.
They're gonna invest in your career.
- Yes.
Definitely.
- Sweet.
- Tish, you can take a seat.
- Yes.
So, all right, D.
R.
, what song did you choose? I chose "(I Know) I'm Losing You" by Rod Stewart.
- Yes.
- Yeah! Originally, The Temptations did it, you know, like, that's the reason why I chose it.
D.
R.
: I consider myself a rock-soul artist.
I feel like this song really shows that side of me.
It's a really good blend of genres.
The last five years in New York, it's definitely been a hustle.
I sing for different wedding band agencies.
I've traveled the world Turkey, Japan, and Russia.
I feel like that experience taught me how to be a professional singer and musician.
But being here on "The Voice," you can't compare the two.
D.
R.
, congratulations.
You're moving on to the knockouts.
Just to be at "The Voice" is a dream come true.
It's there when you speak my name It's not the same, oh, honey Damn.
I think the one thing that does separate D.
R.
, from everyone on this show is his incredible range.
You have my favorite runs.
Oh, yeah It's like so quick.
You're a beast.
Thank you.
He has this incredible range, too, this incredible falsetto.
There's this one part that I thought, I wanted you to do it.
It was that one part in the middle.
Oh, yeah - I almost want it there.
- Okay.
Nobody's doing that on this show like that.
- It's so acrobatic.
- Thank you.
When you're running around, it's right on perfect pitch.
Like, I don't know how you do all of it.
I'm still working on breathing, 'cause this song is so big.
What does help me is bigger breath support.
I know it seems silly.
I bubble my songs, like with the melody.
Mm-hmm.
Hey, ooh Gah, ooh Yes! That was sick! Your love is fading I'm losing you All right, now we get to hear the lovely Tish.
Yay.
D.
R.
commanded the stage, so I have to come with it in full force.
If I'm able to get to the lives, it would be such a blessing.
Thank you for stealing me, first of all.
Not even I literally said, "She's not going home.
" She goes, "I'm going back to St.
Louis.
" "Hell, no, you're not.
" DALY: Kelly Clarkson steals Tish! TISH: And I'm super grateful that Kelly stole me.
It gives me another chance to show the world that I deserve to be here.
For me, it was tough growing up.
I was pregnant at 14.
I had my daughter at 15.
But then I found my husband and everything that I could've ever prayed for, he is just that.
Now I have four beautiful stepdaughters and I have two of my own.
I'm a full-time mom, but my husband helped me out a great deal during this journey.
Now, oh, my goodness, I'm on the "Voice" stage.
Oh, yeah Marmalade Oh, yeah "Lady Marmalade" shows who I want to be as an artist.
I love soulful songs.
I love big notes.
Hey, hey Those power songs.
Hey Hey Giuchie, giuchie, ya ya, dadada Oh! Giuchie, giuchie, ya ya, here KELLY: I think people should experience Tish's voice in person.
[Chuckles.]
'Cause you don't just hear it, you feel it.
She is a soul singer at its best.
You have this gift and you can tell your story through music and singing.
That's amazing.
Just to break up all the big Marmalade, oh, yeah maybe like a breathy rasp.
- Yeah.
Yeah - Dynamic.
So, by breaking it up and bringing those dynamics, like, just to show the depth of you.
Create those really, either Steven Tyler-esque, you have that kind of rasp thing and you've got this whole Chaka thing, just like the rasp that I love.
- Mm-hmm.
Yes, yeah.
- Pick your moments, yeah.
Giuchie, giuchie, ya ya, dada Being able to come back to "The Voice," it's eye-opening.
Creole Lady Marmalade And they've inspired me to get better.
[Laughs.]
They're so good.
Feel like I just was, like, trying to be your coach, but like [Laughter.]
- it's next level.
- Yeah.
Yeah.
You're the most talked about coach.
Everybody just loves you, and I'm talking, like, from every team.
Oh! That's really nice! That's really nice.
Thank you.
Tish and D.
R.
, I'm 100% sure one will get stolen if I don't pick them.
That's what's making me feel better about this.
[Laughs.]
[Cheers and applause.]
Oh, th they're so good, both of them.
With "(I Know) I'm Losing You," here's D.
R.
King.
Oh Yeah I can feel it fade, fade, fade, fade, fade, fade Your love is fading I can feel your love fading Woman, it's fading away from me 'Cause your personal touch has grown cold As if someone else controls your very soul And I fooled myself as long as I can Whoo! I can feel the presence of another man It's there when you speak my name It's not the same Oh, honey, I'm losing you Yeah! I feel it in the air It's there everywhere Yeah, ooh, I'm losing you Hey Oh Oh, yeah Your love is fading Can feel it fading Yeah, away from me Feel it in the air It's there everywhere Yeah, I'm losing you 'Cause I don't want to lose you I know I'm gonna groove you Oh, honey, I'm losing you Your love is fading Feel your love fading Yeah, I'm losing you Yeah Yeah [Cheers and applause.]
Yeah! He said, "Yeah!" What in the world? Y'all ain't ready.
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the knockouts.
[Cheers and applause.]
Now with "Lady Marmalade," here is Tish Haynes Keys.
Whoo! Hey, sista, soul sista Go sista, flow sista Hey, sista, go sista Soul sista, go sista Mmm He met Marmalade down in old New Orleans Struttin' her stuff on the street Hey! She said "Hello, hey, Joe You wanna give it a go?" Hey! Uh-huh.

Whoo! BLAKE: Holy! Oh, my God.
I love that they love you! - Thank you, Jesus.
- Wow! First of all [Laughter.]
I know! This is crazy.
I am literally speechless.
Okay.
First of all, D.
R Yeah! [Cheers and applause.]
You took that song to a whole other space that, like, has never been sung before.
Thank you.
And you have a magnificent voice.
And then, y-you [Laughter.]
I love that you had all this sass in your flow and everything, and her arms were up [Cheers and applause.]
Shaking the booty.
booty was shaking and everything.
It was amazing! I loved it! - It was totally - Love it! voulez-vous coucher avec moi.
Yes, ma'am.
Yes.
I will say this, the one thing that D.
R.
did, was he took that Rod Stewart song and he he did this version of it that was different.
D.
R.
, in any other situation, that would've been the illest thing I'd ever heard in my life.
Right.
But then Tish had to mess it all up for everybody.
I know! - You know how much I love you.
- And I love you.
And I miss you, girl.
I miss you.
I miss you.
She doesn't miss you that much.
Ask Tish if she misses me! - Oh, Lord.
- You know I do.
- I think you're both beyond phenomenal.
- ALICIA: Yeah.
And, uh, she can't really go wrong.
[Cheers and applause.]
Yeah, this is world-class talent.
D.
R.
, every time you're on the stage, I know it's gonna be something exciting and it's gonna have a twist to it.
But then there's Tish, who just came in and Tish just won the whole show in the knockout rounds.
- I know.
- Right.
I know.
It's it's crazy.
I feel like that I feel like that was the finale.
That was the finale.
Thank you, Coaches.
Kelly, it all comes down to you.
What'd you think? Both of you equally fricking killed it.
I would dream of having a performance like that.
Who's the winner of this knockout? [Dramatic music plays.]
The winner of this knockout D.
R.
King's my winner.
D.
R.
King, congratulations! You are moving on to the live playoffs! KELLY: D.
R.
comes out here and he floors us.
Killed it! Just did such an insane version of the song.
I couldn't imagine not taking D.
R.
to the live playoffs.
Let me remind you, Tish is available.
And we've got a save! There it is, the steal! Tish, you are in a tough spot.
Oh, my God.
Kelly, you have your one save on the line.
Tish, you were trying to show something different that you haven't been able to do yet.
And I want to be there, right here.
I'm gonna be here anyway.
But I would like for your hand to be in mine, not Adam's.
Oh, my God.
Tish, you are one of the most fun, positive, human beings.
I-It's so wonderful being around you.
[Cheers and applause.]
Thank you.
Like, what excites me so much, Tish, is that you really, truly do have it all.
But I also really want you to push yourself, - to change it up - That's right.
You're right.
because I want you to fill shoes that are gonna make you you and gonna blow people away, so that's why I want you.
All right, Tish, who's your new coach? Please, please! [Audience shouting.]
Oh, my God.
Adam, I love you so much.
Oh, my God.
Why y'all doing this to me? - I love you, too.
- [Whispers.]
Kelly.
I think I want to just take this to the top with my new coach.
- Yeah! - Aw! Yeah! Kelly saves Tish Haynes Keys! Thank you.
I'm so happy to have this opportunity, once again.
God, I love you.
Kelly really understands where my heart is - and she's gonna work with me! - Yes! Oh, my God! 'Cause I can't wait for the finale! - God bless you.
- It's so good, so good.
- Thank you so much.
- Team KC! Team KC! Team KC, baby! Team KC, Team KC, Team KC! DALY: Coming up All I could do was cry Many rivers to cross DALY: the artists take it to the next level with unexpected song choices It's the climb Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh DALY: that leave our coaches floored WTF? [Laughter.]
and ready to steal.
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back.
I'm excited that I saved Tish and she picked me.
Yeah, I thought maybe I had a shot there.
- I did, too.
- She was like going Mmm-mmm every time you spoke.
You know, I thought I had it.
I made her cry.
And then that, like, KC goodness, she couldn't - she couldn't fight it.
- It's true.
I don't know why I did this.
[Laughter.]
DALY: Let's check in with Team Blake.
BLAKE: I paired Dylan and Wilkes together because I feel like both of these guys have a rock element to 'em.
This knockout's gonna be simple.
It's gonna be who gives me the most well-rounded performance.
- Dy-lan - Oh.
is the proper way to say it.
Dy-lan.
Don't set me up to embarrass myself.
- [Laughs.]
- Come on.
- Hey! - What's up? What's up? How are ya? Guys, this is the champ of "The Voice.
" Chloe.
Seeing Chloe there was awesome.
During the knockouts, Chloe got stolen.
I'm also someone who got stolen.
I knew that I was gonna get some good tips from her.
You're just trying to put your best foot forward.
Be the best version of you as an artist that you can be.
It's not just about winning this round, - 'cause anything's possible.
- This is Wilkes.
He may be asleep right now, we're not sure, but when he gets in front of a microphone, he comes to life.
And then this guy is one of my steals from the battles.
- Oh, nice.
- DYLAN: Can I ask you why you stole me? - 'Cause I like you.
- Yeah.
There it is.
It's good when he likes ya.
It's good.
Yeah.
I know.
Hey, KC, are you ready for it I really thought I was going home.
I'm incredibly grateful Blake saw something in me and he gave me another shot.
I'm not gonna let him down.
Yeah! When I was 14, I decided to pick up singing.
Right before I started doing "The Voice," I was in a funk rock band.
But it wasn't really working out for me.
I wasn't playing the kind of music that I liked.
So I decided I would move back home and go back to school, and it was tough for me to be able to do something like that.
"The Voice" was a big opportunity for me to finally get the chance to do something that I want to do.
Baby I chose this song because the type of artist I want to be doesn't have to deal with going crazy on riffs or hitting these super high notes.
I want to be a folk rock artist.
This is the perfect first step in order to do that.
The way you move me is crazy CHLOE: Dylan's voice was so unique.
It had a really cool, breathy, soulful kind of sound to it.
He had a lot of fun with the movement.
He's a strong one, for sure.
There's times where I feel like your voice kind of goes into a whisper and that's okay, but compare it to when you really project and your voice gets loud You are the best Yeah.
I mean, that kicks butt.
I do think that you should project throughout the entire performance and let it fly.
The biggest thing for me is understanding dynamics.
You're saying the same thing so many times, "You are the best thing," so being more direct with the eyes, with where you're standing when you sing it, just really go for it.
Yeah.
What do you think about that, Wilkes? WILKES: I was awake.
[Laughter.]
Dylan's a particular kind of challenge.
He has that swaggery kind of stage presence about him.
I'm just gonna have to take what I do and try to amp it up a little bit more.
Wilkes is a Nashville guy, too.
Oh, sweet.
- Part-time.
- Part-time Nashville.
I live in Waleska.
- Wilkes-leska.
- [Laughs.]
WILKES: I go up to Nashville once a week.
I actually get up like 5:00 a.
m.
, and I write for 10 hours.
And then I come back home and then I focus in on being a dad.
An opportunity like "The Voice" is just something that you can't get, no matter how long you tour.
I'm very happy that I picked Blake.
He's been really encouraging.
Well, I got nobody to blame, but me I really appreciate the fact that he has been shooting very straight.
I couldn't be on a better team.
I can almost see it "The Climb," the lyrics literally tell a story about my experience in the music industry.
There's always gonna be a better mountain A lot of doubt has kind of come into my head over the years and tried to quit a couple times, but the climb is what matters.
It's the climb CHLOE: Wilkes was just soaring through those notes and he literally, like, gave me chills.
He's creating his own moment with that song.
Basically, every word in the song, I could've written.
- Yeah.
- I wish I would have.
Right.
And people are gonna hear Miley's voice, 'cause that is such an iconic song of hers.
Yeah, yeah.
Sure.
But right off the bat, it was, like, your song.
I always want to understand every lyric that somebody's singing, and so Yeah, be a little more enunciated? Because sometimes, you're so in there doing that, that it could get lost in there, you know.
Yeah.
So, just be sure that we understand what you're saying, you know.
- Come up here, Dy-lan.
- I'm coming.
Favorite thing about Dylan is his confidence.
I mean, this guy definitely owns the room when he walks in.
Favorite thing about Wilkes is there's times that I think that he has fallen asleep while I'm talking to him and the next thing you know, the band starts and he comes alive.
This is definitely gonna be a difficult decision for me.
If I attempted that note, I would never - be able to sing again.
- Never.
I would be Blood would come out of my mouth.
[Laughs.]
I would literally start [Cheers and applause.]
With "You Are the Best Thing," here's Dylan Hartigan.
Baby It's been a long day, baby Things ain't been going my way You know I, I need you here To clear my mind All the time And, baby The way you move me is crazy [Cheering.]
It's like you see right through me Make it easier - Hey! - You please me, you don't even Have to try Oh, because You are the best thing You're the best thing, baby Hey.
You are the best thing You're the best thing, baby And you are the best thing You're the best thing, ooh That's ever happened to me Now, both of us have known love before, yeah To come up promising, like the spring Walk on out the door 'Cause our hearts are strong And our hearts are kind Now, let me tell you just exactly what's on my mind You are the best thing You're the best thing, baby You are the best thing You're the best thing, baby And you are the best thing, yeah You're the best thing, ooh That's ever happened to me, yeah [Cheers and applause.]
- Whoo! - Yeah! [Laughs.]
Yeah, showing that range! That was good.
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the final night of the knockouts.
Now singing "The Climb," here's Wilkes.
I can almost see it That dream I'm dreaming, but There's a voice inside of my head saying "You'll never reach it" Every step I'm taking Every move I make feels Lost with no direction My faith is shaken, but I, I gotta keep trying I gotta keep my head held high There's always gonna be another mountain I'm always gonna want to make it move Always gonna be an uphill battle Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose Ain't about how fast I get there Ain't about what's waiting on the other side It's the climb There's always gonna be another mountain I'm always gonna want to make it move There's always gonna be an uphill battle Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose - Ain't about how fast I get there - Yeah! Yeah! Ain't about what's waiting on the other side It's the climb What?! Ohh Yeah! [Cheers and applause.]
What?! What was that? I thought you were already there and then you Ahh Like, when I saw the song, I was, like, that is awesome! Like That's what I was hoping for.
And it shows that you're not just a great vocalist and you're not just a one-trick pony.
- Thank you.
- Having said I love Dylan.
You took on the Taylor Swift, and now you're tackling the Ray Lamontagne.
It really does show the juxtaposition of your range.
I mean, I'm obviously gonna go with Dylan, 'cause he was on my team.
Um, but I really do commend both of you.
Thanks, Kel.
Appreciate it.
Thank you.
Dylan, you're super dynamic.
You just have this energy about you, that you're bringing everybody with you.
You want them to join along in your personal party that you live in.
[Laughs.]
Yeah.
And then, Wilkes, I don't know if this is, like, your secret weapon that you do.
Like, you dial it all the way back and then the music takes over you and, like, I said, wow.
Dylan, every time you sing, we notice you more and more.
And, Wilkes, you're just so crazy with your range.
Your tone, oof.
I might go with Wilkes, considering the song and the key it's in, but, man, Dylan, you're ridiculous, too.
No.
Hey.
Thank you, Coaches.
Blake, it all comes down to you.
I thought you both did everything you could do.
And, Dylan, I'll say to you, you've got a lot of personality, man, whether you're on that stage or off the stage.
I don't know that I've ever met anybody quite like you.
Not a lot out there, you know.
And then, Wilkes, we're not completely sure that Wilkes is is conscious [Laughter.]
in between songs.
He's literally just asleep.
Maybe that's how he can sing those notes, because he exudes absolutely no energy whatsoever outside of music That's the secret.
throughout the day.
He just saves it all for that moment then he blows the roof off.
Such warm Such warm words for your team.
I can talk to these boys that way.
I'm their coach! - "Get in there and win!" - That's right, that's right.
Tough one, Coach.
Who's the winner of this knockout? [Dramatic music plays.]
The winner of this knockout is Wilkes.
Wilkes, congratulations.
You are advancing to the live playoffs.
BLAKE: I chose Wilkes because he continues to show me that there's just no limit to his range.
It's literally like Dr.
Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde when he gets in front of a microphone.
Damn it.
DALY: Coaches, let me remind you, Dylan is available to steal.
Dylan, anything you'd like to say to your coach? Man, I appreciate you giving me another shot.
Very humbled to be able to perform on this stage.
So, thank you.
Give it up for Dylan Hartigan, ladies and gentlemen! I have so many guys.
I know, I know.
It's tough.
You've got time, you've got time.
DALY: We got a steal! You got him! Again! - Dylan Hartigan - Yeah! is a steal for Kelly Clarkson! Oh, my goodness! Oh, I love you so much! Dylan, you are right back in this competition, my man! Yay! - Whoo! - Let's go! Kelly Clarkson, you got one steal in the knockouts and you use it for Dylan.
Talk to us.
I know.
Man, I j I couldn't let you go home.
You hit that at the last second.
I know.
And it's not for lack of wanting to hit it right off the bat.
It was just, I'm trying to think of my whole team.
It's turning out to be a fellas club at KC World.
[Laughter.]
Yeah, buddy.
But you're so good, so I had to.
Kelly Clarkson steals Dylan Hartigan.
Congratulations, Dylan.
Dylan this was his best performance he's had on "The Voice" yet, and that's why I stole him back.
And he needs to be on Team KC.
Man.
I have a lot of guys.
DALY: Coming up, our coaches and advisers prepare the artists You're singing her first hit to her.
Obviously, there's a Oh, Oh Oh, oh DALY: for epic knockout performances.
I never felt this way Yes! No pressure.
Don't sing to me.
Talk to me.
We will rise We will rise We will rise All I could do was cry DALY: And the final steals of the season Whoa, we got a steal! - will be used.
- Whoo! - You belong here.
- That's not fair.
I know.
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the knockouts at Universal Studios Hollywood.
I have one steal remaining.
- One steal.
- Mm-hmm.
You have a steal, and he has a steal.
I have a steal, and Blake has a steal.
- Wait, do you have a save? - No.
First of all, do not point at me.
And Blake's team is That Wilkes' guy, I was like shocked.
Yeah, let's finish up the knockouts.
- Let's do it.
- Go, Team NBC.
N-B-C.
DALY: Now, let's check in with Team Adam.
ADAM: Gary and Rayshun are in a similar lane, and so I need to take one moving forward.
- What up?! - What's going on, man? RAYSHUN: It was extremely exciting to see Jordan, because the man can just flat-out sing.
This dude makes me think that I suck, that's how good he is.
We both have the same style.
He's been on this journey.
- Rayshun? - Yep.
Have a seat.
It's not a secret conversation, but it's just [Laughter.]
Uh, what song are you gonna do? Uh, Jimmy Cliff, "Many Rivers to Cross.
" Whoo! GARY: I came to "The Voice" because, I mean, where else in the world can you get this type of coaching and leadership? I am an assistant choir director.
Working with my kids at the church, my goal with them is to inspire that hard work really does pay off.
Y'all sound good! Gary is a great music teacher, in my opinion, personally.
GARY: When I was in college, I worked as a janitor.
I needed that paycheck.
It allowed me the opportunity to sneak into the music room and play and practice.
The Singing Janitor.
[Laughs.]
Being in the knockouts, there's still much more to go.
When you get to a certain point to where you can see the end of the tunnel, it's like, nah, I'm going through it, I'm not turning back.
I've dreamed it.
I've practiced it.
It's time to do it.
Many rivers to cross This song talks about a young man having these stumbling blocks, but finding some way forward.
That's the journey I'm on.
Blind, battle, knockout.
Wandering, am I lost? - Whoo! - Whoo! Genre-wise, it's kind of a cross between soul and alternative rock.
This is definitely the area that I would love to bathe in.
I've got many, many, many, many ADAM: Gary singing "Many Rivers to Cross" shows me a lot about his taste.
He's got great taste.
It's an ambitious song to sing.
I like the fact that it feels a little bit different.
- It feels more gospel.
- Yeah, it definitely does.
I just I put a little Gary-isms in there.
Good.
You can tell it's not you just trying to make that happen, which is a good thing, especially at this point.
This is your first time to really be like, - "This is who I am as an artist.
" - Gotcha.
If you're balancing your longer extended notes with your runs, the runs are winning too much right now.
You got to have as many extension notes, like But just where to begin You know, lengthen some of those.
Okay.
Like, your you know, your Many, many, many Just like really dig in.
Yeah.
Make it feel a little less like this is a planned moment here.
- Exactly.
- Got you.
If it was a 6 there, it's got to be at a 12.
I've got many, many, many rivers to cross JORDAN: The important thing is not worrying so much about the technical aspect of the song.
I want him to really seize that opportunity to be on the stage.
Rayshun, you're up.
RAYSHUN: I came to "The Voice" 'cause there's so many things that I went through in my past, I felt like it was my time.
Having to go through cancer and having to deal with not knowing if you're gonna be able to live to sing again and to make it here, it's super crazy to overcome that.
So, before I got here, I was working with an agency band called Sound Connection and I was working as a bank teller.
I came to the blind auditions because I want to be a full-time musician.
Don't you hear me talking, baby? DALY: Rayshun moves on to the knockouts! Making it all the way up to this point, it's a blessing.
I mean, that's the only word I can say.
And to make it to the playoffs, I think it would give me an extra boost, like, oh, wow, I'm making it.
I keep on fallin' In Ooh! [Laughs.]
Why did I choose that song? And out of love Because a past relationship that I was in and I kept falling for that person.
And after I chose it, I was like, oh, God, Alicia is a coach.
Now I have to impress her.
I'm jazzing it up a little bit.
I'm giving you a little bit of rock and a little bit of soul.
I keep on fallin' It's a bit of a risk to sing an Alicia Keys song in front of Alicia.
With you JORDAN: But I think that's good for him.
I think that's gonna encourage him, you know, to do his best.
I, I, I n-n-n-never felt this way [Laughs.]
- Ha! Ha! - Rayshun! ADAM: Rayshun's voice just crackles and sizzles and it's just it's so good.
I mean, the only thing I would suggest is, obviously, there's the I, I, I - That's the big ones she goes to.
- Yeah.
I don't miss it, but I do feel like we need to simulate the same amount of energy.
- Okay.
- Why don't you try to do it? I'll try.
Some version of it, where you You can just tap it.
Like, for me, when I was doing this exact thing that you're doing, which I was standing in front of you and Rihanna during my knockout, I want this to be good and I don't want to do things where I'm gonna crack and suck and sound terrible - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 'cause it's two superstars.
- So, just got for it.
- Okay.
And you're singing her first hit to her.
I know! God.
So put yourself in that headspace right now.
Okay.
The worst crime that you could commit on yourself would be to think about it too much.
You have to always be letting it flow.
- Yeah.
Totally.
- Yeah, I think that's right.
And it's guts and it's grit and it's all these emotions and feelings like, that's what your gasoline needs to be.
- Okay.
Yeah.
- Yeah.
It's important to strike a balance between living in the moment and also being well-rehearsed, and I think that's gonna be the key for this knockout.
I was scared to death in mine.
[Laughs.]
Singing "Many Rivers to Cross," here's Gary Edwards.
[Cheers and applause.]
Many rivers to cross But I can't seem to find My way over Oh, and wandering, am I lost? As I travel along The White Cliffs of Dover Hey, yeah And this loneliness won't leave me alone Oh Hey! Such a drag to do it on my own, yeah My woman left me and she didn't tell me why So, I guess Guess I have to cry, yeah Many rivers, many rivers to cross But just where, where to begin Oh, you're playing with my time There has been times that I've found myself Many rivers to cross Thinking of committing Some dreadful crime I've got many, many, many, many rivers to cross And it's only my will It's only my will that's gonna keep me alive I've been licked, wrapped up for years, yeah And it's only my pride Oh, that's gonna keep me alive Oh, yeah Whoo! Yes! Church.
No pressure.
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the knockouts.
Now with "Fallin'," here is Rayshun LaMarr.
Rayshun Nation.
I keep on fallin' In And out of love With you, oh Sometimes I love ya, oh Sometimes you make me blue Sometimes I feel good At times I feel used, mm But lovin' you, darlin' Makes me so confused 'Cause I keep on fallin' In and out Of love with you I never loved someone The way that I love you Oh, oh, oh, I Never felt this way How do you give me so much pleasure Whoo! And cause me so much pain, pain? Hey, just when I think, think about it I've taken more than would a fool I start fallin' Back in love with you Say it, oh, yeah I keep fallin', baby Out of love with you I never loved someone The way that I, I, I, I, I Na-na-na-na, no, no, no See, you got me Fallin', fallin', baby Fallin', fallin', baby Fallin' Fallin', fallin' Fallin, fallin', fallin' [Cheers and applause.]
- Wow! - Rayshun's ballsy as hell.
I know! [Laughter.]
I was like, Rayshun's confident, y'all.
'Cause he's singing in front of, like, not only the singer, the songwriter.
It's like one of the biggest records.
Her first huge record.
Yeah.
And your vocal was insane.
Thank you so much.
Gary, your low tones are like butter.
I might go with Gary just because, you know, it ain't easy singing that song, so - Yeah, dawg.
- Rayshun, that was so good, man.
So full of energy, so full of passion, so you're full of it.
You are full of it.
And Gary sang the hell out of that song, dude.
Man, Gary, I really think you did such a beautiful job.
Your tone is, like, so pure.
Thank you.
How do you catch one breath, like - Jesus.
- Okay.
Whoo! Rayshun, I was sitting here like, can he actually hit those notes? And you did! So, that was just [Cheers and applause.]
He's like, "I'm impressing Alicia Keys now.
" - Thank you so much.
- Thank you, Coaches.
Adam? - Rayshun? - Yes.
How funny is that, that she literally said, "I can't believe you can hit those notes"? So, when we first were doing it, he was trying to stay away from it, he tried to dodge it.
And I was like, dude, you'll be doing this - in front of the lady herself.
- Right.
I'm so glad that you went for that very bold thing.
Like, to me, to know someone on your team has that fire.
And, Gary, look, let me tell you something.
- You came out here today - That was some singing.
it was like a transformation.
T-That is not what was happening in rehearsal.
Tough one, Adam.
Who is the winner of this knockout? Good question.
[Dramatic music plays.]
Uh The winner of this knockout is Rayshun.
Rayshun, congratulations.
That means you're advancing to the live playoffs.
Yeah, Rayshun! ADAM: Rayshun swings for, not even the fences, like farm across the street.
You got to reward that.
I'm ready to take this show by storm.
I'm ready to give the world Rayshun Nation.
DALY: Coaches, let me remind you, Gary is available to steal.
Gary, anything you want to say to your coach? This has been, musically, the toughest thing I've ever done.
I wasn't gonna go out for this knockout without swinging.
Good things are gonna happen to you, because you're a good person and I believe in you, all of it.
Give it up for Gary Edwards, ladies and Whoa, we've got a steal! Blake Shelton swoops in for Gary Edwards! I'm really excited that I was able to use my steal for Gary.
I hit my button for him in the blind auditions.
I've been a fan of his since day one.
Gary, you're back in this competition! [Crying.]
I want to show Blake that, not only do I belong, but that I can [Sighs.]
I can win this thing.
Thank you, man.
- [Laughs.]
- I thank you, man.
This is the second time I tried to get you.
Finally Finally, you didn't have any choice.
You had to go with me, Gary! - [Laughs.]
- Thank you.
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the knockouts.
Did you grow up with a lot of different kinds of music? The only thing I never got into was, like, rah, rah, rah! Yeah, that's not a lot of melody there.
This is my most difficult pairing because they kind of are totally different.
Jorge is all vibe.
He's got this really cool falsetto thing.
Mm.
But he's not as big of a singer as Alexa.
Okay.
KELLY: I paired Alexa and Jorge because although they are very different, they both have soulful voices and a popular sound about them.
- Oh, here they are! - Hi! KELLY: This is Alexa and Jorge.
This is Cassadee Pope, Season 3 winner, y'all.
- Such an honor.
- Oh, thank you.
- Nice to meet you.
- Cassadee, Jorge.
Nice to meet you.
Before, when I lived back in Mexico, I used to watch the YouTube videos of "The Voice.
" And I remember yours like, perfectly, like - Really? - I love it! You're awesome, yeah.
I just feel like this connection already.
Jorge, we're gonna have you sit in that chair - on the bottom left.
- Okay.
Okay.
What song are you singing? "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," Elton John.
Elton John.
You like the classics.
Yeah.
ALEXA: My dad definitely influenced my taste in music.
I listened to a lot of the classics with him growing up.
I'm a senior in high school.
I go to Orange County School of the Arts.
I would do my academics in the morning, my art classes in the afternoon.
I've geared up to this moment my whole life, working at my school and learning more about being a musician.
But "The Voice" so far has been unique because I'm getting firsthand experience of it and that's helping me become my own person.
I'm so happy to be here.
The blues It's a big task to sing an Elton John song.
Ahhh For her to feel confident enough and strong enough to take that on is very telling.
Your control is insane.
- Thank you.
- Yeah.
That's incredibly hard going so powerful and then coming in and bringing it in, without taking a breath.
[Laughs.]
- Right.
- There's so many words.
Mm-hmm.
What are you doing on, "My future lies"? I sensed there was some hesitation and some uncertainty there.
Future lies You don't have to do runs all over the place.
The melody is already this incredible piece of art.
Mm.
Future lies - Mm-hmm.
- Yeah.
That'll work.
- It's just fast.
- And then just let it go, so you have somewhere to breathe.
- [Laughs.]
- Yeah.
I would even maybe do like a build-up like [Vocalizing.]
That'd be really cool.
Flip between the full voice and the falsetto a little bit, 'cause - Okay.
- you project amazingly.
- Yeah.
- So, you should showcase that.
- Showcase it, yeah.
- Okay.
We even both said the word "showcase.
" Showcase.
- With jazz hands.
- [Laughs.]
She's bold, and she's super talented.
- Be you, all the time.
- Thank you.
She's comes off this quirky, really funny chick and I want to see more of that in the songs, as well.
- Okay, Jorge.
- I love it.
- What song did you choose? - "Adorn" by Miguel.
- Yeah.
- Sexy.
- Yeah.
- That's so cool.
And it's kind of like the genre I would like to do, vibing music.
- Pull off some dance moves.
- Some dance moves? He auditioned with "Despacito," which is like, uh, my favorite.
Oh, cool! Despacito Quiero respirar tu cuello despacito I was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico.
And I was on "The Voice" in Mexico.
After "La Voz," I moved to the U.
S.
because I felt like there was a lot of opportunity here.
It was kind of a challenge because I was here by myself.
I've been doing weddings, corporate events, restaurants, but now I'm just working for a bigger purpose.
And it's time now Just let Whoo! Let my love Yeah! Adorn you, baby What?! Oh, l-l-l-let it KELLY: I did not know that Jorge could sing like he sang today.
And I was excited 'cause he has this whole, like, sexy little Jorge thing about him.
And I think he doesn't even realize it, which is so even cuter.
Love ain't never looked so good on you - You.
- Ah, he said You said, "You.
" You.
- I love you, Jorge! - Thank you.
You went higher and higher and higher and higher again.
I was like, "Whoa.
" I knew you had like, crazy falsetto, but I didn't know you had all that.
What I'm not sure about, to be honest, is about the falsetto at th at the end.
- Don't you dare take it out.
- That was sick.
- Okay.
- I will cut you.
[Laughs.]
I was, like That was, like, my favorite.
I'll keep it.
I'll keep it.
No, it's so it's like Prince, it's Yeah, yeah.
Miguel.
You're showing your range.
Cool, cool.
I would just always change it up.
- Yeah.
- Even slightly.
Let my love, let my love Yeah.
Hey, hey, hey - Ooh, yeah.
- Yeah, any kind of Ooh, ooh, ooh [Laughs.]
It's, like, she looks so good, you can't even contain one note, it's gotta be like several.
Mmm Jorge really went for some big stuff, and you can tell that he wants to make a record like that.
To prove to me why they should move on the live playoffs, it's gonna come down to who can handle the pressure and who really sticks out.
ALEXA: Wow.
That was so good.
Those, like, falsetto notes, what was that? [Laughs.]
Hey, what are you gonna do? With "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," here's Alexa Cappelli.
When are you gonna come down? When are you going to land? I should have stayed on the farm I should have listened to my old man You know you can't hold me forever I didn't sign up with you I'm not a present for your friends to open This boy's too young to be singing The blues Ahhh Ahhh So goodbye yellow brick road Where the dogs of society howl You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plough Back to the howling old owl in the woods Hunting the horny black toad Oh, I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the yellow brick road Ahhh Ahhh Thank you.
[Cheers and applause.]
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the knockouts.
And now with "Adorn," here is Jorge Eduardo.
Oh, oh, baby These lips Can't wait to taste your skin Baby, ooh And these eyes, yeah Can't wait to see your grin Ooh, ooh, baby And there's things trying to break us down But don't let that affect us No, baby You just got to let my love Let my love Let my love adorn you Ah, l-l-l-let it dress you down You got to know You got to know Know that I adore you Just that, baby Oh, yeah The same way that the stars adorn the skies, yeah Look up, sugar Oh, hey, hey, hey The same way that my whole world's in your eyes And it's time now Just let Let my love adorn you, baby L-L-L-Let it dress you down You got to know, baby You got to know Know that I adore you, yeah Oh, love ain't never looked so good on you Put it on, baby Let my love adorn You.
[Cheers and applause.]
Oh, no.
That's not fair.
He pointed at you.
I know.
Jorge, you came out here, you gave it all the energy you had.
- Completely in your zone.
- Thank you.
And, Alexa, you have this really powerful voice.
You don't quite come off like you're gonna just bang like that.
The keys change and make it feel effortless, and I think you really continue to surprise.
I think Alexa took this.
[Cheers and applause.]
Jorge, I think that was a good song for you.
Alexa, you know, you're someone that I've been noticing from the beginning.
You have all of what it takes to really, really be an incredible singer, and I've seen that in you since the beginning.
There's all this potential there, too.
Thank you.
Jorge, it's kind of undeniable when you're onstage and you hear the reaction in here.
I mean, people are They love you.
[Cheers and applause.]
- Thank you.
- Yeah.
And I even told Kelly, I said, "Well, that's not fair," when at the end, when you kind of pointed at her and winked or whatever.
She was like [Giggles.]
[Laughter.]
Alexa, you know, you have this very unusual-sounding voice.
It's very powerful, and I just think that maybe you just didn't navigate that melody as well as we all know y-you could have.
But that said, I think you're one of the best singers in the competition.
Thank you.
All right, Kelly, it all comes down to you, of course.
I love Jorge.
[Cheering.]
She does.
She really loves Jorge.
Like, even when you switch it up language-wise, it's just so cool.
I love it.
Jor-hey.
- Hey.
- Yeah.
[Laughter.]
But, Alexa, it is a crazy-hard melody, which is bold.
And you both did do well.
I just didn't think this would I don't know, man.
DALY: Kelly, who is the winner of this knockout? You need to talk? You need to talk to me? [Laughs.]
You ain't gonna help me.
You want to talk to me? [Laughter.]
I The winner of this knockout just keeps shocking the hell out of me.
[Audience shouting.]
Her name is Alexa.
Alexa, congratulations! You are moving on to the live playoffs! KELLY: Alexa brings her "A" game every time she's in front of a crowd.
When she gets onstage, it's like, this beautiful flower flourishes.
Coaches, let me remind you, Jorge is available to steal.
Jorge, anything you would like to say to your coach? I'm just really grateful to be here.
I love you forever.
You're the best person.
Ladies and gentlemen, get it up for Jorge Eduardo! No, No! Jorge, I'm so sorry.
It's all right, Kelly.
ADAM: Kelly loved Jorge, but I only have one steal, so I'm just waiting to be amazed.
DALY: As the night went on, Adam advanced Reid Umstattd to the live playoffs.
You touch before it moves away Just always know how long to stay And when to go I'm gonna let him fly Fly, whoa I'm gonna let him fly Fly Whoa Reid, you really did an amazing job of transforming the meaning of the song.
And the artistry of that is really special.
The winner of this knockout is Reid.
Reid, congratulations.
ADAM: I had to stick with Reid.
He has a connection with what he's saying and there's a reason and purpose behind it, so I-I love that.
[Cheers and applause.]

No rest at all in freedom This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back.
Stop trying to look like me, too.
Hey, look.
We straight Alicia out here, as you know.
- Uh-huh.
- You know, we gonna - For sure.
- For sure.
For sure.
Keep it dapper.
All right, you better bring them out.
We ready.
ALICIA: I paired Kelsea and Sharane because they're my two big voices.
They both have a soul and an energy that's really powerful.
- Hey! - They're so cute.
- Chris Blue.
- Chris Blue I'm a fan.
And clearly, if he was able to navigate it to the point of winning the show, like, he knows what he's talking about.
How did you get through it? I stayed really grounded, 'cause when you're amongst everybody, sometimes you get lost in that, when you're supposed to be the best version of yourself.
Amen.
Sharane, I'ma have you hang out and then we're coming back to you.
Okay.
So, Kelsea, what are you singing for us today? "Rise Up" by Andra Day.
I can really feel the lyrics of the song.
Like, you gotta rise up, whether it's like a breakup or a death.
Well, who are you talking about? My grandfather would be the One of the the go-to, yeah.
Are these potentially words that he's saying to you? Mm-hmm.
Ugh.
I'm sorry.
That's okay.
That's okay.
It's all right.
KELSEA: My grandfather, he passed away of cancer in August.
He was, like, in a little mariachi band.
He's definitely a big part of why I'm even here 'cause he brought music into my entire family.
I'm gonna love you, hey I just can't lose you I'm gonna hold you I just graduated with my bachelor's in sociology and psychology.
But I'm trying to make this my plan "A".
Kelsea, congratulations! KELSEA: So, getting confirmation from Alicia Keys is such a big deal to me.
I'll rise up I'll rise like the day I'll rise up Kelsea is singing this massive song.
I'll rise up And I'll do it a thousand times again ALICIA: The trick here is to know that she is an artist and that she has a beautiful style and voice.
Those were not my best runs.
[Chuckles.]
I-Is the tempo too fast? It's a little fast.
Even if the tempo is too fast, you make sure you slow down.
- Yeah.
- Don't sing to me, talk to me.
Almost leave all the ad libs out.
That'll help you not feel like you're singing it, but, like, you're actually speaking it.
And there is actually a lot of space in this song.
You're broken down and tired Just sit behind it a little bit.
- Yeah.
- Let's try that.
You're broken down and tired I'm a little nervous.
Are you afraid of disappointing yourself? Are you afraid of disappointing somebody? Yeah, I'm trying to make everybody proud, you know.
Don't put the pressure on yourself.
For every performance, I thought, "What if I'm not good enough? What if I" Like, I kept hearing all that stuff, right? - Mm-hmm.
- But then I reminded myself.
Alicia picked me.
You're here.
You have nothing else to prove.
I think the reason you chose this song is because you have to believe in yourself, 'cause you don't believe this yet.
- Got it.
- What do you think, Sharane? I love that song.
That song's so touching.
What made you choose this Etta James song? - I love old-school music first.
- Mm-hmm.
And then I definitely can relate to this song Yeah.
and I could put all my emotions into it.
What's the emotion that you're feeling? Brokenhearted.
Being in foster care, sent from home to home, I was always shy.
Not raised by your mother, by your father, that was the roughest part of my life.
The fact that I get to be here so close to the live shows, this is a huge step.
Make it rain I got Alicia Keys' last spot.
- My team is full! - Yeah! Alicia is so inspirational, and her giving me advice, I never really had that, so it's a great opportunity.
I saw them Holding hands Sharane is a beast, for sure.
Oh, my God.
I was losing The man that I love - Yeah! - Wow.
You can just sense, through that song, she's gone through a lot, but I still think there's more in Sharane.
Was cry - Fantastic! - Yeah! ALICIA: Kelsea, what do you think? - What was that note? - I don't have anything to say.
[Laughter.]
She's insane.
I think that feels like right in your world, like the liberties you're taking.
And I even felt at that end, maybe she could drama it out, almost a ti Ahh Like, this is, uhh! Okay, I was thinking about doing that.
Right.
Is there like a tear that may be, possibly, could've been on the verge of coming out - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- that you're holding back? It's almost like this delicate balance of the the feeling versus the singing.
- Mm-hmm.
- Your voice is so good, you can almost not be in touch.
Right.
It's scary to bring out all of those feelings.
SHARANE: I have to open up to the audience to let them know what I feel inside.
Y'all both are like two different worlds, bringing us back to what we said in the beginning remember why you are you.
This knockout is gonna come down to who's ready to shed it all.
- Now, go kill 'em.
- Thank you.
All right.
All right, we'll see you in a little bit.
With "Rise Up," here's Kelsea Johnson.
You're broken down and tired Of living life on a merry-go-round And you can't find the fighter But I see it in you, so we gonna walk it out And move mountains We gonna walk it out And move And I'll rise up I'll rise like the day I'll rise up Ah! In spite of the ache I'll rise up And I'll do it a thousand times again For you For you, you, you, you For you For you All we need All we need is hope And for that we have each other And for that we have each other Ohh We will rise We will rise We'll rise, ohhhh We'll rise And I'll rise up I'll rise like the day I'll rise up In spite of the ache I will rise A thousand times [Cheers and applause.]
What?! DALY: Coming up All, all I could do DALY: Sharane delivers an emotional performance.
But which artist will get the final steal of the season? Um DALY: You have been stolen! Whoo! This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the final night of the knockouts.
Now singing "All I Could Do Was Cry," here's Sharane Calister.
Ooh I heard Church bells ringing I heard A choir singing I saw my love Walk down the aisle On her finger He placed a ring Oh, ooh, I Saw them holding hands What?! She was standing there Standing there with my man And I heard them promise 'Til death do us part Each word was a pain In my heart Oh, oh All, all I could do All I could do was cry All I could do was cry I was losing the man That I love And all I could do was Cry I was losing the man That I love And all I could do Was cry Damn.
[Cheers and applause.]
Damn.
Sharane.
You were so connected emotionally to what's going on, it's like, there's no turning back.
That's what makes you great.
- Thank you.
- Kelsea.
Only difference between close-to perfect and perfect, as far as you're concerned, is belief.
You're maybe a little bit too much in here and you need to be a little more in here.
I don't know if there's a better here.
I think there's basically just two amazings up there, and, uh, I wish I could have you both.
[Laughter.]
Kelsea, for you, sometimes we just go a little raspy.
Yeah.
Don't get in your head about that.
You still nailed it.
Thank you.
And, Sharane, you are one of the most emotional singers on this show.
When we are that emotional, we can distract from that God-given voice.
Sometimes, all you have to do is stand there.
You have some kind of intensity.
You don't even have to move.
You just have those pipes.
I mean, like, WTF? [Laughter.]
- Okay? - Thank you.
WTF? You are - And - How do you make that creepy? [Laughter.]
And, Kelsea, I don't know if you watched last season or not, but Chloe, both your voices break up, and the thing that Chloe figured out was, that's what people actually like.
That makes me excited as a listener.
Thank you.
DALY: Thank you, Coaches.
Alicia? I think Kelly brought up something interesting.
Because I've been telling Sharane that, um, somehow, I still feel a wall between us.
Here I am thinking that there's more to bring out, but maybe in the stillness, there's even more power in there.
It's like, rather than performing, you're feeling, so Yes, and somehow, you you always rise to the occasion.
You killed.
And then, Kelsea, I mean, I feel like you have I think Adam's right you have been in your head a lot, and I see, like, so much in you being able to just break through anything that's making you feel like you can't go all the way.
You've got a tough one here, Coach.
Thank you.
Um it's really, really hard for me to choose.
[Dramatic music plays.]
The winner of this knockout is Kelsea.
Kelsea, congratulations! You're moving on, advancing to the live playoffs.
ALICIA: Something really mysterious and special about Kelsea.
It's like that je ne sais quoi, that "It" factor.
You did it.
I'm really proud of you.
- Thank you so much.
- You found it.
I asked them both to really access their emotions and tonight, I felt that Kelsea made me feel the most in the moment.
Coaches, let me remind you, Sharane is available to steal.
[Cheers and applause.]
Sharane, you have been stolen! Whoo! Sharane, you belong here on my team.
I truly believe that.
Like, I believe that I haven't even really see the best of you, which is scary.
So, welcome to my team.
Thank you so much.
SHARANE: I feel honored.
I feel special, you know.
Not everybody gets to experience two coaches.
I got to experience Alicia, and now I get to experience Adam.
So, it's gonna be a little trans - Hi.
- Oh, my God.
Thank you so much.
