Walker (2021) s01e16 Episode Script

Bad Apples

1 ("HUNTING GROUND" BY THE BLACK DELTA MOVEMENT PLAYING) All right.
Here come our guests.
Stay sharp.
Copy that.
- Arrest on sight? - No.
I don't want to blow a six-month investigation on a bad takedown.
- Move in after the buy.
- Six months? Is that why you got Rangers on a drug bust? - Care to share more, Cap? - No, I don't.
Get ready.
All right, boys, look alive.
The lies you have sold 'Cause when the words got skewed As you talked in truth It might be worth it, it is amiss As you walk All right, Ramirez, move in now, - move in now.
- Deal's good.
Good to go, good to go.
Move, move, move! (SIREN WAILING) (TIRES SCREECH) Texas Rangers! Freeze! - (SHOUTING) - (TIRES SCREECH) - (SIREN WAILING) - Get down! Right there.
(TIRES SCREECHING) Easy.
Easy, sweetheart.
You don't know what you're doing.
- That's original.
- (HANDCUFFS CLICKING) Get on the ground, now.
- We're good here, Cap.
- Yeah, I can see that.
I'm coming down.
(SIREN WHOOPING) MICKI: Here's who we apprehended.
Lieutenant Owen Campbell.
Narcotics, Moss PD.
As I was telling your, uh, Ranger here, I'm undercover.
Yeah, I know who you are, Lieutenant.
You're a dirty cop who seizes drugs, then sells them back to the streets.
You really want to go that way? (CHUCKLES) I thought you were one of the good ones.
You can take him.
You knew he was Moss PD and you didn't tell me? Couldn't risk any leaks.
Sir.
Sir.
I was your point on this bust.
I can't lead if I'm in the dark.
You were focused.
The arrest was clean.
Campbell's going away for a while.
Take the win, Ramirez.
All right? (INDISTINCT POLICE TRANSMISSION) (HORSE NEIGHS) All right.
- What do you think? - (CLEARS THROAT) Uh, well, I think we could've used a sander.
A sander? No.
No.
- Doesn't leave the same mark.
- (SCOFFS) You know what, you haven't really talked about the Rangers in, like, two weeks.
Think you'll be happy without 'em? (CHUCKLES) Augie, I never needed to be a Ranger to be happy.
Torturing my son with manual labor brings me far more joy - than the Rangers ever could.
- (CHUCKLES) - (EXHALES) - I mean it.
Seriously.
Being yours and Stella's daddy - makes me the happiest man in Texas.
- Mm.
- Just Texas? - It's a big state.
Come on.
(CHUCKLES) Hey, will you grab me the chisel? I think I left it inside on the counter.
- Yeah.
Got it.
- Yeah.
Thanks.
(CLEARS THROAT) (FOOTSTEPS APPROACHING) Hey.
How are those, uh, summer plans shaping up? Um (EXHALES) Get a job at The Side Step? - (CHUCKLES) - I know the management.
Ah.
(CHUCKLES) Come on, Stel.
Summer before your senior year? You need something you can put on a college application.
You know what? Your uncle how 'bout working on a campaign? Got an idea.
Hey.
You need an intern? You want to lick some stamps? Mm.
(CHUCKLES) Yeah.
Teenagers.
Uh, what's up? Stan's poll numbers, actually.
It's only a poll, right? I mean, those things change every day.
"Only a poll".
I I don't even know why I'm asking you.
- Where's Mom? - Uh, she and Daddy went up to Dallas for a livestock auction.
They'll be gone for a few days.
So I'm all you got.
You know why Stan's beating you? Well, he's got - the Rangers' endorsement, for one.
- No.
No.
Uh, it's because he's a closer.
Maybe it's time for William Walker to get in there for a few rounds, mix it up.
You know what? You're right.
You know, I need I need a speech.
There you go.
Damn it.
You know, Bret could totally nail this.
Yeah.
You, uh you talk to him yet? About everything you went through? He knows I was in the hospital.
But he doesn't know the details of what happened here.
And even before, when I - lied to him about cheating.
- Yeah.
You got a hell of a lot to unpack.
- Mm, yeah.
- That's for sure.
I didn't ask, but I assume you thought about him when everything went dark back here.
- Of course I did.
Yeah.
- Yeah.
He deserves to know.
JAMES: All right.
Lieutenant Campbell.
Tell me, did your, uh, operation end up bearing any fruit? We don't discuss ongoing cases with other law enforcement agencies.
(CHUCKLES) No, with me, you do.
You know the Rangers investigate police corruption, right? You were supposed to be investigating the movements of the Lozada Cartel - in the region.
- Right.
But according to all the reports, they haven't been active for over nine months.
So what have you been doing? UNION REP: Investigation delays doesn't mean the lieutenant was on the take.
Maybe not.
Filing fake reports sure does though, huh? See, as it turns out, while you and your team were supposed to be surveilling Lozada, I was surveilling you.
And you, Lieutenant, have been (CHUCKLES) been a busy little bunny with the extracurriculars.
- The lieutenant hasn't done any - I'll-I'll I'm gonna stop you right there.
Are you gonna speak for yourself or let him do all the talking? (PHONE VIBRATING) UNION REP: Yes, sir.
Yes.
We are with him now.
Of course.
D.
A.
McLawson would like a word.
Captain James.
Yes, sir.
No, I have more than enough.
There's Sir, I really don't think that Okay.
No, no.
Understood.
(HANDCUFFS CLICK) (SNIFFS) (HANDCUFFS CLATTER) (GRUNTS) I got to make a call.
- All right.
- You got this.
- Yeah.
- Stick with it.
- Yo, Dad.
- DJ.
What? Thought I was picking you up from the airport.
You were.
- Figured you got caught up at work, Captain.
- (GROANS) I did.
I'm sorry.
I had a I'm sorry, son.
- Mm-hmm.
- Meet me out front.
- I'll be right there.
All right? - All right.
- Okay? - Is this your boy? - Dominick.
- (CHUCKLES) You look like your daddy.
See ya around, Captain.
(CHUCKLES): Yo, you good? Yeah.
Yeah, I'm-I'm fine.
Good.
'Cause I could eat.
- Well, there's a shocker.
- (CHUCKLES) Let's go, man.
Ooh.
Getting a little big.
- Yeah, I'm trying.
I'm working on it.
- What's all this? - What is all that? - (LAUGHS) (TREY GRUNTING) - (EXHALES) - Babe.
- Babe.
Baby! - (EXHALES) Yeah.
Yeah.
- Look what came in the mail.
- What? (GRUNTS) It's from UT Medical School.
Could be a rejection letter.
Or, Dr.
Buzzkill, you were accepted and this makes it official.
Yeah.
Um You open it.
- You sure? - Yeah.
Okay.
(CLEARS THROAT) "Dear Mr.
Trey Barnett, After careful consideration, we are pleased to offer you admission"! Oh, congratulations! I knew it.
I knew it.
Wait right here.
Don't move.
Don't move.
(HUMMING) (LAUGHS) All right.
Come on.
What is this? Open it.
No way.
(CHUCKLES): No way.
Mick, this is What? Why the face? My TBI.
Remember? Could be permanent.
Yes.
But I remember the doctor saying that was highly unlikely.
Yes, but, still, if it is, that means I can never operate.
I have a doctor's appointment at the VA tomorrow.
If I get the all clear, I'm good.
But if not Okay.
Yeah.
I hear you.
Yeah.
DJ, I hear you're, uh, killing it at Boise.
- (CHUCKLES) I wouldn't go that far.
- JAMES: Hey.
- Don't be modest, dude.
- Yeah.
4.
0.
Okay? - Backup wide receiver.
- Yeah.
All right? You did the s uh, the travel - S-Study abroad.
- Study abroad.
- "The travel"? - Come on, man.
See? Your pops is right.
You matured a lot since high school, man.
I can see it.
It shows.
I'm impressed.
Well, I could say the same.
Uh, when Dad told me that Uncle "Stomp Ass" Walker was hanging it up, I was in disbelief.
Look, I-I used to I used to think all your-your maverick stuff was cool.
Now, being a bit older, I got to say, the "rebel with probable cause" bit - (CHUCKLES) feels a bit dated.
- Ooh! I'm gonna use that one.
- I'm gonna write that one down.
- (CHUCKLES) - Kid's smart.
- That's what I'm saying.
All right.
To DJ.
Thank God you fell far, far, far, far from the tree.
- Hey! - He-he clinked.
You gonna let him talk about your dad like that? - (WALKER LAUGHS) - To DJ.
- All right.
- All right.
Hey, can I borrow you for a couple days? I need you to give some positive influence to, uh, Stella and August.
You know, have you give them some of those, uh, "get it done" vibes that you got.
- Yeah? - (CHUCKLES) Not a problem.
- All right.
- How is Stella? She's, uh she's fine.
Yeah, she, you know She-she just needs what-what all those kids - (SIREN WAILING) - (INDISTINCT CHATTER) MICKI: So you saw the vehicle as you were driving away? Yeah, I drove by it, right there.
I don't understand.
I don't know why somebody would All right, Cap.
Uh (COUGHS) What's the next move? Want to pull camera feeds? Uh, get Forensics in here? Maybe talk to some witnesses? Take DJ home for me? Take Yeah.
C-Course.
(CLEARS THROAT) Hey, think of it this way no paperwork, right? (CHUCKLES) Yep.
You okay? Yeah, I'm-I'm good.
You know who did this? I have a pretty good idea.
Don't worry about it.
All right? I love you, man.
Love you, too.
Hey.
Thanks, buddy.
Captain.
You're gonna want to hear this.
Carol here said she saw four men torch the car, then walk away.
CAROL: They just strolled off, like they weren't afraid of anything.
Tell him what they looked like.
White.
Middle-aged.
They looked kind of crazy to me.
I'm gonna grab your formal statement in a second.
- Can I just have you wait over there? - Mm-hmm.
Thank you.
Captain, you know this was Campbell.
Do you want me to go pick him up? No.
No.
Captain, this is a blatant Just follow me on this one.
Okay? I'm handling it.
Respectfully, sir, I've dealt with this stuff, as a trooper and in the military.
If we do not respond loudly, it is only gonna get worse.
Appreciate your concern.
Ramirez.
You let me deal with this.
Understood? Yes, sir.
("ONLY US" BY PAPERWHITE PLAYING) Yeah.
My dad thinks stuff like this will help with college admissions.
- Mm.
- He's probably right, too, and I hate - when that happens.
(CHUCKLES) - Remember when my dad made me clean out stables all summer? (CHUCKLES) Yeah.
You showed up with a bucket and a shovel, and you looked so pissed.
- (CHUCKLES) - Yeah.
I also remember you were supposed to help me.
Yeah.
(CHUCKLES) Real talk though.
Liam would be great for Austin.
Mm.
But what about Stella Walker? What's she gonna do? She's still undeclared.
Well, if you ask me, based off of everything you told me about what happened here Hoyt, this Trevor dude just sounded like you were ready for a change.
And now we can let go of When it was only us I got an idea.
Why don't we check out UT tomorrow? Just to see what it's like.
I have some friends who go there.
They can show us around.
Maybe help you decide what's after high school.
Yeah.
Okay.
Tomorrow sounds good.
When it was only us.
(EXHALES SHARPLY) Liam? Why are you here? I - I owe you an apology.
- (DOOR CLOSES) So-so much has happened.
So much that I never told you and I-I should have.
A-And when I was at my worst, I thought of you.
Were-were you ever gonna tell me what's going on? Before, when I told you that I cheated on you in Mexico, - that was a lie.
- M-Mexico.
Liam.
And, you were shot.
What about that? I know.
Look, all of it, I was trying to protect you.
I-I wanted to keep you safe.
I-I didn't want to involve you You didn't want to involve the man you were about to marry? (CHUCKLES) I'm This is my terrible attempt at an apology.
This is why you are the speechwriter.
I wasn't sure that you'd still be in Austin.
I was confounded by what you did.
But, apparently, you didn't do it.
"Confounded".
That's a great word.
I'm gonna save that one for later.
(CHUCKLES SOFTLY) I heard you were running for D.
A.
I am.
Recent events kind of threw me for a loop, but I-I was thinking of you and I Hey.
Everything okay? Uh (SPUTTERS) yeah.
I'll, uh, be there in a sec.
I'll-I'll let you go.
I just wanted to come by and say take care, Bret.
(INSECTS TRILLING) (SHUTTER CLICKING) (SHUTTER CLICKING) R4 to Central Dispatch.
This is Dispatch.
Go ahead, R4.
I have a possible Code 6 with several armed suspects at 101 North Adams Street.
Send any available units now.
Sorry, R4, no available units in the area.
ETA on backup is at least 20 minutes.
(CRUNCHING) (DOG BARKING IN DISTANCE) (WHISPERING): What are you doing? Captain I specifically told you to stand down.
- Captain - No.
No.
I don't need another Ranger that doesn't know how to follow orders.
Trust me.
Okay? Meet me at HQ.
There's something I want you to see.
- Okay.
- (DOOR OPENS) CAMPBELL: (CHUCKLES) Well, well, well.
Ha! How you fine Rangers doing this evening? Whew.
Now, you see, if you keep harassing me like this, boy, I'm gonna have to respond.
- Hmm? - "Boy"? - "Boy"? - Micki.
Micki.
Micki.
Trust me.
- Let's go.
Right now.
- Mount up! (ENGINES STARTING) I'm bringing Stan and Liam in on this, too.
- Gentlemen, thanks for being here.
- Yeah.
Hey.
- Hey.
- (KEYS JANGLE) All right.
Ramirez, you wanted to know what my plan is.
Take a look.
Lieutenant Campbell is being protected.
Protected? By who? You tell me.
Guy's able to paint outside the lines.
Bribery, racketeering, trafficking.
Arson, apparently.
He's completely untethered.
And I waited to bring you all in until I had an ironclad case against him, which I do.
But even with all this evidence turned over, McLawson still hasn't filed formal charges.
I want you to find out why.
STAN: Could be a million different reasons.
He's hiding something, Stan.
Liam, you have the access to find out what that may be.
I'll look into it.
Campbell is just, uh He's one bad apple.
We want the whole rotten basket.
Why throw out one when you can get rid of many? Exactly.
And you probably know better than most Rangers why this can't stand.
STAN: This case has some pretty big implications, for policing as a whole.
Well, might be a great opportunity to make some real change.
That's why it's so important to me.
That's why I'm looping you in now.
Thank you.
All right.
Let's go harvesting.
So, uh, what brings you all the way out here? Everything all right with Micki? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's all good.
This is about me.
I went to the, uh, VA yesterday, saw the doctor.
And told me that my TBI was mild.
Nothing permanent.
That's great news! Well, u-unless you wanted a brain injury? (LAUGHS) No.
No, no, no.
I just thought that, if I did, if you know, if my TBI was irreversible, then it would take medical school off the table and I wouldn't have to make the choice.
- 'Kay.
- Look, after years of being an Army medic with multiple deployments, countless trauma surgeries, I just don't know if this is what I'm meant to do.
No, I get that.
What does Micki say? I haven't told her yet.
I mean, I have to figure out what I really want first.
Micki, she already knows what she wants - to be a Ranger.
- Yeah.
I mean, she's focused, she's organized, ambitious.
And I'm (SIGHS) I'm turning my back on a great career.
I mean, am I crazy? Whoa, whoa, whoa.
(STAMMERS, LAUGHS) Okay.
I was talking to you, not the horse.
But, Trey, you're not crazy, man.
Micki's smart.
She wouldn't be with you if you weren't smart, too.
I think she'll get where you're coming from.
I say, on this one, you think with your heart instead of your brain.
(CLICKS TONGUE) (CHUCKLES) (INDISTINCT CHATTER, LAUGHTER) College doesn't have to be the next step, Stel.
Like, what do you want to do? And it doesn't matter what your dad thinks or your uncle.
Just you.
I keep thinking about Mom.
Wanting to do something like that, helping people.
I want to do something that means something.
I just I don't know where to start.
Maybe just travel.
Figure out where you're needed.
You know how I went to Montreal that semester? I fell in love with the city.
Oh, I meant to ask you.
Did you pick up French? (SIREN WHOOPING) Hey, what's wrong? I don't know.
Um (SIREN WHOOPING) (SIGHS) (INDISTINCT RADIO TRANSMISSION) - Just chill, okay? - (DOOR CLOSES) Probably nothing.
- License and registration? - All right.
Just gonna grab the license out of my pocket here.
And my registration in the glove compartment.
All right.
Here you go.
Is there a reason you stopped us, Officer? Get out of the car.
- Wait.
Whoa! - Hey! What did I do?! (GRUNTING) Stop it! He didn't do anything! You (GRUNTS) match the description of a robbery suspect in the area.
I didn't rob anybody.
Oh, yeah? Oh.
Hey.
Ooh.
What's this? Come on, man.
You know that's not mine.
- Hmm? Hmm? - Hey! That's not his! Stop it! I recognize you.
You were at my dad's office the other night.
Yeah? - (GRUNTING) - Well, you are under arrest for possession of an illegal substance.
You serious? Stop it.
Hey.
Hey, stop it! Your daddy should've left well enough alone.
(SIREN WAILING) - (LOCK BUZZING) - (INDISTINCT CHATTER) - You okay? - Yeah, Dad.
I'm fine.
- The-the drugs weren't mine.
- I know that.
Son, he's just trying to he's trying to send a message.
D, look, this is this is on me, and I'm gonna fix it.
Okay? Let's go.
How you gonna do that, Dad? You gonna you gonna go back in time and stop me from being arrested? This man pulled me out of the car and slammed me onto the hood.
Stella was with me.
I know.
Walker picked her up.
She's-she's okay.
Yeah.
And I got taken away and locked up, all because I'm the son of a Black Ranger.
- D - You-you know what makes this worse? Is that I thought I was safe.
I thought stuff like this wasn't gonna happen to me because of who my dad is.
Joke's on me.
You're angry.
You have every right to be angry.
Okay? But let's just let's go home.
We can talk about it, okay? There's nothing to talk about.
You pissed off some cop, and I paid the price.
End of discussion.
(CRICKETS CHIRPING) (KNOCKING) Hey.
I-I talked to your Uncle Larry.
Um DJ's gonna be all right.
He-He's a tough kid.
He shouldn't have to be.
I know.
Have you thought about going back? To the Rangers? (STAMMERS) Stel, if-if this is about what happened to DJ After you came back, all I wanted was for you to be here.
Not just home but present, you know? For me, for Augie.
But then Uncle Liam got shot and-and Hoyt The point is, you showed up.
You were there for us.
And when I called you after DJ got arrested, I knew you'd come.
I wouldn't have been able to say that a year ago.
And even though I love knowing that you will always pick up the phone when I need you, I realize the Rangers need you, too, Dad.
(EXHALES) Stel, baby girl, uh (CHUCKLES SOFTLY) The Rangers are fine without me.
It's a part of who you are, Dad.
After what happened today, I can't be selfish.
This-this city, this world, it needs good people.
And you need to be able to do what you do best.
So, do it.
Please.
Are you strong enough? No guarantees No trading back You know, Stel, your mom would-would be, um so proud of you.
But how did you get this? (CHUCKLES) Contrary to parental belief, my eyes aren't glued to my phone.
(LAUGHS) Retired Rangers don't keep their gun belt buckle in their pocket, Dad.
Lifers do.
Stel, thank you for your support, but even if I were to consider going back to the Rangers, we'd still have to get the sign-off - from your brother first.
Look - AUGUST: Yes.
Yes, Dad.
Just don't make me sand anymore.
No, seriously though, we, uh we got your back.
Okay.
So, if you're going back I think I might have something that could help DJ.
The cops kind of scared me, so I didn't say anything right away.
But you really need to see this.
CAMPBELL: Get out of the car.
DJ: What did I do? (GRUNTS) What did I do?! You match the description of a robbery suspect - in the area.
- I didn't rob anybody, man.
CAMPBELL: What's this? You know that's not mine.
CAMPBELL: You are under arrest for possession of an illegal substance.
Liam? I noticed that Captain James submitted his findings on the Campbell case.
You haven't brought charges yet.
Did you want me to take care of that? I'm handling it.
Okay.
Do you even plan on charging him? - Excuse me? - Campbell.
Do you plan on formally charging him? Just what the hell is that supposed to mean? This goes way further than prosecutorial discretion.
Filing false reports, corruption.
I mean, we have a list of things that we can charge him with.
But you're keeping Campbell on the street.
Why? I've worked for you long enough to know when you are lying, sir.
Take my advice, Liam.
You need to stay far away from this.
I can't.
Campbell threatened one of my friends.
He made it personal.
So either charge him or I'm calling the state attorney general.
It's your choice, Grant.
All right, I want two at the rear exit, two in the parking lot.
Ramirez, you're with me.
Now, remember, he's off duty, but he's still a cop, so stay on your toes.
WALKER: You need more backup? ("RAINY TAXI" BY SPOON PLAYING) What are you doing here? I know this isn't exactly, uh protocol, just, uh just showing up like this.
I've-I've had time to do a lot of thinking, and I-I've searched a hell of a lot more than my soul to get me back here.
You catch everything I never could I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm ready.
To be here, to be back.
This, the Rangers all of it.
And when you stand It's who I am.
Whether I'm wearing the badge or not.
Mount up.
We move in five.
You know you don't come back Hold up.
Hold up.
I've got nowhere else WALKER: Hey, uh, hey, Cap.
I-I may have, uh I, uh (CLEARS THROAT) I did stop by your office on the way in.
I didn't snoop.
I swear.
- Wow.
- (CHUCKLES) You know, the official paperwork still needs to be done.
But this'll do for now.
Ramirez? Witness? Yes, sir.
All right.
But if you leave You better run away for good Repeat after me.
Yes, sir.
I, Cordell Walker I, Cordell Walker do solemnly swear do solemnly swear (NEWSWOMAN SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY ON TV) Ranger.
You want some eggs? No, I'm good.
Thanks.
Mm.
Oh.
Is this about your boy? Shame.
(SNIFFS) Seemed like a good kid.
(CHUCKLES) Maybe I'm just a bad judge of character.
You know, something tells me those weren't his drugs.
Hmm.
Hopefully, the judge will believe that, too.
(CLEARS THROAT) You crossed the blue line.
Your boy paid the price.
You think about that next time you want to take a run at me.
- Will do.
- NEWSWOMAN: no stones are being left unturned.
In fact, an arrest warrant has been issued for Lieutenant Owen Campbell of the Moss Police Department.
Campbell is the alleged mastermind behind an illegal narcotics distribution ring.
We've obtained video, courtesy of the Texas Rangers, that appears to show Officer Campbell planting drugs during a traffic stop.
Owen Campbell, you're under arrest.
(CHUCKLES SOFTLY) I don't know how you got that warrant, but I'll be out by lunchtime.
Yeah, not this time.
("PORNO DISASTER" BY THE OCTOPUS PROJECT PLAYING) So much for the good old boys, huh? (GASPS) (CLATTERING) Head to the back door.
(GRUNTS) (GRUNTS) Whoa there, now, buddy! Where's the fire?! (GRUNTING) You never should've messed with my kid.
- (HANDCUFFS CLICKING) - Let's go.
Look at that, Cap.
Guess you still got it.
Let's do this.
(HORSE NEIGHS) (ENGINE TURNS OFF) - It took you a while.
- Uh-huh.
James boys! Welcome! - Hey! - Look at y'all.
Woo-hoo.
Looking relaxed.
(LAUGHS) Yeah, well, it's, uh it's well-earned.
Trust me.
- Mm.
Okay.
- Hey.
What's up? - Hey, Stel.
- Just came to say goodbye.
Goodbye? You just got home.
Yeah, and I am good on home for a little while.
But I'm-I'm not gonna stay gone too long.
My hero lives here.
(CHUCKLES SOFTLY) - My man.
- (CHUCKLES) - I didn't pay him to say that.
- WALKER: Try this out.
Come on.
- Oh, I heard about this.
- Yeah, yeah.
- Let's go.
- My latest project.
- (INHALES) - Yeah? - Oh, that's nice.
- Ah-ha-ha! - Told you.
Right? - You just sink right in.
It's all about the sandpaper grit.
- Feel that.
- Thank God.
Okay.
- Yeah.
- (CHUCKLES) So I like to use, uh, 80 up to 120.
(CHATTER, LAUGHTER CONTINUES) What's going on? I've decided to work from home for the rest of my term.
What? Why? Look, if this is what I said about calling the state A.
G.
I'm no longer fit to hold office.
I don't understand.
I mean, we all make bad decisions.
Where is this coming from? I've let things get in the way of doing my duty.
"Things".
Is there something that I should know about? You're a good lawyer, Liam, and an even better man.
Don't let the job rob you of your moral compass.
- MAN: All right, talk to me.
What do we got here? - WOMAN: We have a young man in his 20s who's been shot in the chest.
Luckily, the bullet just missed his vital organs, - so hopefully he'll make it - Mm.
Are you gonna point out everything wrong with this show now that you're in med school? - MAN: Based on what I'm seeing in the X-rays - Yeah, um, about that.
(CLEARS THROAT) - (TAPS KEY) - Mm.
Even though the doc gave me the all clear, I've thought about it, and, um I don't want to be a surgeon.
Look, I didn't want to say anything until I made up my mind.
Are you disappointed? No.
I'm surprised.
But you know I got your back no matter what you want to do.
I want to help people and their emotional problems, rather than their physical ones.
You know, coaching soccer, I really care about those kids and their well-being.
I'm thinking about pursuing psychology.
What do you think? I think that you would be an excellent doctor.
No matter what initials.
- (CHUCKLES) - Ooh, wait.
I have an idea how we can still make use of that doctor's coat.
- Oh.
Word.
- Mm-hmm.
(LAUGHS) - Mm-hmm.
Oh.
- Dr.
Love - is in the house.
(LAUGHS) - Oh.
Oh, is he? (INDISTINCT CHATTER) Hey, y'all ready for a dry run of my speech real quick? - (OTHERS ASSENTING) - Yeah? (CLEARS THROAT) How can one act in the best interest of a city if they can't for those closest to them? You know, leading by example isn't just a phrase.
It's words to live by.
I've taken people that I love for granted and didn't trust them with the truth.
But when I did that, I took away their choice.
District attorney isn't just a prosecutor.
They determine when, where and how justice is decided.
And while I wish that I would have made different decisions in the past, I will work hard each day to make better decisions in our future.
We will watch over this city and make choices together.
Because that is what a partnership truly is.
And I'll always remember that.
What do you guys think? - It was great.
- Yeah? - It's good? - (APPLAUSE) Hey.
(CHUCKLES SOFTLY) I didn't expect to see you here.
Yeah, well, it didn't feel right, leaving it like that.
I kind of threw you for a loop.
(CHUCKLES): Oh, yeah, you did, but, hey, I was the one that decided to stay in Austin, so I guess, for a minute there, I thought we'd work things out.
After a while, I just got tired of waiting.
So I just (INHALES) moved on with my life.
- Yeah.
- Look, I know you've been through hell.
But I didn't just stop caring about you.
I want you to know that, okay? Did you mean what you said about trusting people? Every word.
Okay.
Well, then I was thinking I want to work for your campaign.
But strictly professional, okay? (CHUCKLES) - Of course.
- (CHUCKLES) Thank you.
- Yeah.
- Welcome to the team.
- Thank you.
(CHUCKLES) - (CHUCKLES) Come here.
I want I want to get your eyes on this.
All right, let me proofread this.
- Please.
- Who knows what Let me see this.
WALKER: All right, all right, all right! Uh, Tx Whiskey.
Time to celebrate.
On the house.
- About time.
- Here we go.
- "About time".
Come on.
- Expensive.
All right, here is to one less dirtbag - on the force.
Yeah? - All right.
I can drink to that.
Hey.
I got to say, a case like this, it reminded me how important it is to be working with good people.
So, thank you, guys.
I appreciate you.
- Appreciate you back, Cap.
- Mm.
Thank you, Cap.
(CLINKING) Mmm.
All right.
Mmm.
- (CLEARS THROAT) - Um Do you remember when I - told you I dealt with someone like Campbell? - Mm-hmm.
Second deployment.
I was mainly with the infantry guys, but, uh, we had this squad leader that was just (CHUCKLES) well, let's just say - he gave other soldiers a bad rep.
- Got it.
One time, he got rough with a local sheikh during a mission, and, the very next day, our base was attacked.
The firefight lasted hours, and I can't say for sure it was in retaliation, but I also can't say that it wasn't.
It's hard to speak up when you're the only one.
We both know how it feels to be seen as - the other, right? - Yeah.
That's why it's so important for us to stick together.
- United front.
- That's right.
Otherwise, the enemy takes note.
Sometimes your allies do, too.
Shoot.
(LAUGHS) You know what I mean? Yeah.
And before I can lead, I need to learn to follow.
I'll remember that, Captain.
I know you will.
Besides, the original pain in everyone's neck - is back.
- Oh! - (CHUCKLES) - Let's toast - Cordell Walker.
- (CHUCKLES) Welcome back, buddy.
Let's hope that things are a little more enjoyable - this time around.
- (CHUCKLES) I can definitely drink to that.
I want to say, um, this job is, uh i-is more than just a badge.
It's me.
It's-it's us.
Always will be.
(INHALES) Someone a lot wiser than I am pointed that out earlier today - We all figured that one out.
- (CHUCKLES) Ha-ha.
Glad to be with you guys.
- Uh, salud.
- Salud.
- It'll be just like old times.
Hey.
- Ooh.
- Yeah.
No, no.
- LIAM: It will not be like old times.
I will prosecute.
- Oh, come on.
- You're technically a rookie again anyway, so - Yeah.
- MICKI: Oh! That's right! Wait, h wait, hold up.
