World's Toughest Driving Tests (2010) s01e05 Episode Script

Episode 5

These are some of the hardest to drive, and most dangerous machines on the planet.
It's brutal, physical and dangerous work.
Now, celeb pals Will Mellor and Kirsten O'Brien have been set a challenge to learn to drive these incredible vehicles, race them against each other and prove who is the best driver.
I don't want to sound too confident, but at the end of the day, the word girl comes into it, doesn't it? I think he'll be thinking he can take me down, and then when it comes to it, there may be tears.
Who's going to win? Me.
It takes months to master these awesome machines.
Brake! Brake! Will and Kirsten have just days.
Oh, no, don't let me do that again, man.
In less than a week, they'll be examined, scrutinised Didn't we go over this? I know we did.
and tested.
Steady! Go! Then they'll drive the world's toughest vehicles head-to-head in a final race.
Come on, O'Brien, come on! Smoke rings without smoke, people.
That's how cold it is.
They'll be living with the people behind the machines.
That's the toilet? Yes.
It will be intense That was incredible.
emotional I feel really guilty.
and at times Jesus! terrifying.
It will be the crash course of their lives.
Are Will and Kirsten up to the job? Can they handle the pressure? I've not been this scared for a very long time.
Ultimately, who'll win and prove they are the best driver? They've already gone head to head in a 50 ton Romanian battle tank and Kirsten won the bragging rights.
Come on! But in the 15-metre high straddle carrier, Will came out on top.
And the winner is Will.
Argh! Thank you.
North of the border, Kirsten snatched victory in the ultimate dumper truck.
Kirsten! No way! And last week in Canada, Will evened the score at the wheel of the world's most sophisticated amphibious craft.
There can only be one winner.
Will.
You got it.
Thank you very much! So, with the score level at 2-2, it's all to play for as they head across Europe.
Geneva.
This week's challenge begins in Geneva, Switzerland.
To reach their final destination, Will and Kirsten are going to need a hire car, but Will's documents don't appear to be in order.
My licence has seen better days.
Hs that been through the wash? My mum taped it back together like some sort of map from Indiana Jones.
I think it's brilliant.
So it looks like Kirsten is the designated driver.
Do you drive really slowly? Like, really slowly? No.
I drive at the national speed limit.
If driving a hire car was one of this week's challenges, then Kirsten would be off to a bad start.
Tried to take off with the handbrake on.
Let's see how long it takes before she says Can you come and have a look? How do you get it off? Pull here.
I thought you would have tried that! Last week, in Canada, Will and Kirsten were faced with driving the world's most sophisticated amphibious craft.
Oh, my God! The Arktos.
Didn't it look small in the water? Yeah, now it's It looks small in the water! A close fight all week.
Come on.
I'm loving this.
I just feel like we've gone like that.
With a few scrapes along the way.
Oh, oh, I'm going to hit it! Will was first past the post.
Will, you got it.
Thank you very much! Yeah! Levelling the series score 2-2.
Now, back in Switzerland, they've finally got the handbrake off, the satnav set and they're off to meet the vehicle they'll be racing this week.
Come on, we all know who's a better driver.
The competition and mind games have already started for Will.
Your hands are exactly where they were the day you passed your test.
I drive where my hands are comfortable.
Ten to two.
Where do you want them, like that?! What are you talking about? Their journey takes them high up into the Alps, to Chatel on the French-Swiss border.
We're in Chatel, we're here, this is it.
They've found the village, now they need to find the vehicle.
What have we got to find? Chalet Neuf.
Chalet Neuf is at the top of the mountain, and they need to get kitted out for their assault on the summit.
Let's get some clobber.
I think it's you.
No, it's not.
You're having a laugh.
Oh, that brings out the Nordic in me.
It's a 2,000-metre climb to their final destination.
I can't comprehend where we are.
It's just weird.
In one day, from London to this.
Chatel is one of the world's most exclusive and dramatic ski resorts.
It's a vast network of slopes and summits, jam packed with skiers and boarders.
With the exception of a cable car, Will and Kirsten can't imagine what vehicle they could possibly be driving up here.
Listen to that.
Just nothing.
It's just unbelievable.
Who's that? It's time to meet their mentor, the man who has all the answers to all their questions.
Hi.
Hello.
I'm Jean-Louis.
Welcome to the mountain.
Thank you, I'm Kirsten.
I'm Will.
Jean-Louis has over 40 years experience working on these slopes.
Over the next five days, he'll be putting Will and Kirsten through their paces.
It's time to meet the mountain machine they'll have to first master and then race in this week.
Oh, look at those! Hope we get one each! This is the snow groomer, a ten ton king of the mountains.
430 horsepower muscles it up and down 45 degree slopes, taking it to places no other vehicle can reach.
If you want to groom your own snow, it'll set you back a cool £250,000.
Look at the turning circle on them.
They don't look like big machines, but they are very strong machines.
I like them.
They don't look easy, do they? But before they can get their mitts on the steering wheel, it's time to jump in the passenger seat and get a feel for what this vehicle can really do.
Kirsten is set for the ride of her life with Alex, her instructor this week.
With nine years experience, he's an expert on these slopes.
Here we go.
Will's ready for a white knuckle ride with his tutor, Ramuauld.
Born and bred in the Alps, he knows every inch of these mountains.
Kirsten's like a kid in a fairground, she's loving every minute.
360! I like it! 360! Will's just trying to hold on.
Yargh! It's like the waltzers.
Impressive! You're crazy, man! Mad man! Demo done.
Will and Kirsten have felt the full force of the gravity-defying groomer.
Did you feel it was relaxing, or did you not? Relaxing wasn't the word I'd come up with.
I don't know what's going on with me, I was just like, ooh.
I know what you mean.
You expect it to be rougher.
It's great.
And its proper nimble, man, it don't half get about.
I know.
250,000 people use the slopes at Chatel every year and it's the snow groomer's job to provide the perfect pistes they need.
Over the next four nights Will and Kirsten will be staying with the people that know these mountains and the groomer best.
Kirsten will be lodging with her instructor, Alex.
We'll be staying together? Yeah.
Let's go, get out of this cold.
OK, we go.
Will's host for the week is Claud.
My name's Will.
Thanks for having me.
It's a pleasure.
You're welcome.
We'll have some fun.
Claud runs a ski shop and lives in a luxury chalet.
Look at the wine! You shouldn't have shown me that.
Alex lives with his Italian girlfriend, Valentina.
I'll go and unpack.
And Kirsten's in the box room, with a choice of beds.
Your place for the week.
Thank you.
Why did you not think I would be a top bunk person? During the day, you work so much, you have to just jump on the bed.
Crawl, crawl in! Will's indulging in a spot of apres ski, whilst Claud and his wife Nathalie prepare supper, a la carte.
The way to my heart is a nice glass of wine.
Excuse me.
Hello.
How is it going? I'm just smiling, it's fantastic, how are you? I'm in a bunk bed in a cosy room and yeah, I'm snug and happy.
Have you ever had fois gras? No.
Love it.
Do know how they make fois gras? Yes, stop trying to spoil everything.
I'm enjoying myself, so leave me alone.
Bye.
Bye, Kirst, bye, love.
Maybe he'll relax too much into it, enjoy the lifestyle and forget that there's a competition on.
She's in a bunk bed.
Back at Alex's, Kirsten's talking dirty.
Are you worried about me driving it, because I'm a woman? No, Absolutely not.
Because, I don't know whether this will work in translation, but I have the balls of a man.
The what? The balls of a man.
Sante! Yes, sante.
With the final race only four days away and with the series score at 2-2, it's winner takes all this week, and Kirsten knows it.
Note to self this evening is, straight in the morning, get on it.
Whatever we're taught, take it in, because Will is a very quick learner.
He just snaps it up.
Boom, and he's got it.
And I need to be that this time.
I have to win this challenge.
I just think it's I can't believe it's come to this.
It's 2-2 and it's like, gosh, have I got to go home on another flight when I lose? I just could not have it.
It would do me in.
I just hope I don't switch this thing on tomorrow night and go, I don't get it, I don't understand it, I can't do it.
That, for me, would be gutting.
As Dawn breaks in the Alps Morning.
Salut.
today is where the hard work starts.
I'll be two minutes, I'm just trying to get this ski gear on.
You just have to listen to me.
You will see it will be easy, OK? Today, it's our day, it's your day.
To qualify to race the snow groomers at the end of the week, Will and Kirsten need to knuckle down to three days of intense training, before going head to head to decide who is the best driver.
The terrain in the Alps is treacherous and mentor Jean-Louis won't let Will and Kirsten loose on a £250,000 machine until he's sure they're up to the job.
If they're not, he'll pull them from the competition.
OK, snow groomers are a little bit expensive, so today we will begin to know how to move on snow with a scooter.
You want to see how we do on this before you let us in that? I don't want to damage my machine.
That sounds like a good plan.
Will and Kirsten must control a powerful snow-scooter in hard and soft snow.
Stage one is a sprint to the top of the mountain.
Stage two, involves a hard turn in deep snow.
It sounds simple, but to avoid going head first in to the white stuff they'll need to stay focused.
These snow scooters go like rockets.
This will be a short, sharp introduction to life on Let's go! Woo! and off-piste.
The power in it is just fantastic.
This is an important first lesson.
If they can't control a snow scooter in these conditions, they'll have no chance this afternoon when they drive the groomer for the first time.
It doesn't half shift! It's over a mile to the summit but at 50 kilometres per hour, they're there in no time.
So, Will, do you like this? Oh, I could spend the day on this.
OK.
I love it.
Love it.
OK.
It's amazing, it's got power.
Now you must work with it.
Stage one over, Jean-Louis is about to take this up a gear.
Stage two.
They have to drive off-piste into fresh powder.
Will and Kirsten must complete a hard turn around the blue marker and return to the start line.
Will's up first.
When you are on the side Transfer the weight.
Transfer the weight.
OK.
OK, let's go.
Let's have it! This is all about reading the terrain, and it's a skill Will and Kirsten must master.
Will had no trouble on-piste but it's a whole lot harder to control in the soft snow off-piste.
Can he pull off the hairpin bend? He's over, he's over! What a tit! That wasn't supposed to happen.
Jean-Louis is not impressed.
He just tipped it over on the turn.
Will can't believe it.
I hope I haven't broke it.
What a dick.
He's done his usual - yeah, fine, blase, and then bam, he's over.
Push in.
It's broken, we have something to change.
The challenge is over for you.
Will knows mentor Jean-Louis is disappointed.
Unbelievable.
That's the thing, you see.
You go first and you roll the machine.
What a dick.
It's Kirsten's turn and Jean-Louis doesn't want to lose another snow scooter.
Be very Concentrate, and no problem.
Yes.
Sure.
OK, thank you.
I'm a bit nervous.
To add further embarrassment, Will and his stricken scooter is now Kirsten's marker.
Kirsten needs to read the terrain and make a turn in fresh snow.
Can she learn from Will's mistake? Right, take it easy, O'Brien.
It's a successful first lesson for Kirsten and she's about to make Will feel a whole lot worse.
What do you want? Get on the back! I don't want a lift off you, you're rubbing it in all the way home.
Don't row with me, you haven't got a way of getting home.
I don't want to get on it.
Get on the back.
No.
Get on the back.
No.
I'd rather walk.
You go on the back.
I've got to go on the back with her? With Kirsten.
I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than let her give me a lift back.
But it's a long way down and Will's going to have to swallow his pride.
Let's just put your little ego, pop in a little box and we'll get it back out when we get down the hill.
Will must be more serious in the way he drives the machine.
It's not a game.
We'll see what happens this afternoon.
If he makes a mistake, I will say stop.
Jean-Louis has marked Will's card but he's going to give him another chance.
But not before some humiliation from the instructors.
What's happened? What happened? I was going dead slow in a circle, it rolled.
And you, Kirsten, it was OK? It was OK.
Perfect.
Yes.
At the end of the day, it's my own fault.
I rolled it, that's the way it is.
Kirsten is a really good driver.
We can't have this, you know what I mean? We've got to change this.
We will change it.
Will and Kirsten now have to get their heads around driving the vehicle they'll be racing each other in - the mighty snow groomer.
In just two hours, they'll face their first skill test at the controls of this machine.
So right now, they need to buckle down and learn the basics.
Having seen Will tip over this morning, I have a little fear about tipping over.
We are playing catch-up now, but we have to make sure no mistakes, and we'll be OK.
I can't believe how sensitive this is.
Just a slight movement, it moves.
With the series score 2-2 Look behind.
Oh, I see.
You touched the trees.
Will and Kirsten are keeping an eye on each other.
Have you crashed? Try to be smooth.
Sorry.
It's OK.
That was not bad.
Not a bad turn.
It's not so bad, but we can make better.
Kirsten's getting a feel for the steering wheel.
You do it more smooth than her.
And after his smooth test drive, Will's got his confidence back.
Will and Kirsten are off to meet mentor Jean-Louis.
They need to prove to him they've learnt from this morning's snow scooter lesson.
They must read the terrain and manoeuvre the snow groomer safely across fresh snow.
These are vital skills needed for the final race at the end of the week.
OK.
Welcome to my course.
It's time for their first skill test.
Will and Kirsten must drive the snow groomer through two obstacles.
First, squeeze the snow groomer through the slalom gates with just inches clearance, then drive along a high banked turn without hitting the poles.
It's up to them in which order they take them.
It's not a race for time.
Will, you're going to begin with Ramuauld, your instructor.
Good luck.
Thanksoh He's back to his cocky self.
I don't know how he dares after the skidoo incident.
I'd better not mess this one up, had I? I don't think he's got that much confidence in me after what I did this morning.
Jean-Louis wants no repeat of this morning's failure, it's Will's chance to show he can handle a vehicle without crashing it.
This is a ten ton machine and it could slide out of control if Will doesn't correctly read the terrain.
Positioned to force tight turns, these gates are deliberately close.
You must have eyes everywhere.
Will's lining up his approach.
It's so tight here, isn't it? Yes, it is.
And if his eyes aren't everywhere, he could make a mistake.
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Too late.
And he has, he's touched a gate.
Did I touch it? Yeah.
Damn! I touched that one, man.
If Will can't prove he can control the machine, Jean Louis won't let him progress to tomorrow.
But crucially, Will's maintaining his speed.
Carefully, he's through the next few gates.
Yes.
Now he must read the terrain and negotiate the difficult banked turn.
I'm really nervous about this.
I can't see medoing any better.
If he goes too slow or stops, the Groomer will slide down the bank.
Oh, perfect! Just one touch.
Cool.
Will's done it and with only one fault, it's a good drive.
I wanted to do it perfect, but you got to have your eyes both sides.
I looked one way and by the time I looked the other way, I'd just touched the poll on the right, on the backside.
Nothing I can do now.
I think if Kirsten does it perfectly, she's won the day.
We'll see what happens.
Will's laid his marker and now it's Kirsten's turn.
She's heading straight for the tough banked turn.
Slowly does it.
It's critical she maintains power and keeps moving.
If she doesn't, she'll slide down the slope and into the pole.
Oh my God, this is a bit scary.
I didn't expect it to be this steep.
Oh my God, I'm scared.
She needs more acceleration.
What are we going to do? Oh my God! By not keeping the Groomer moving, she's lost control and hit the pole.
She now has to take on the slalom section.
I'm nervous of this bit.
My mouth's gone so dry.
Don't worry.
Can Kirsten make it through first time? No, it's going to hit.
I'm going to go right back.
OK.
She's gone in it at the wrong angle and now she's jammed.
To avoid knocking over the poles, she must reverse and try again.
Whoa, God.
I can't get past it.
Her rival is loving every minute.
She's dancing with the machine.
Oh my God.
Where the hell is it? God, I'm terrified.
Kirsten's far from happy, but she finally manages to inch her way through the gates.
God, my stomach's churning.
My lunch is on its way back up.
I don't want to be happy with a bad performance, but I am a bit relieved.
Skill test one complete, have they done enough to impress Jean-Louis? This morning a bad experience with the scooter, but this afternoon it was better with the machine.
Kristen, this afternoon's course was not so easy.
So, not too bad.
Tomorrow will be a little bit more difficult.
After a challenging first day training, Will's hosting supper in his adopted home for the week.
And the competition shows no sign of letting up.
Nobody wants to lose.
I want to do better than her, she wants to do better than me.
This one is so important because it is 2-2.
This is an important one to win.
Alex, when you knew it was one girl and one boy coming, did you think, oh, the boy will be able to drive better than the girl? Of course, come on.
Women drivers, come on.
This is why he deserves to lose.
Sante! To falling off a skidoo.
Oh, BLEEP off! It's been a mixed day for Will and Kirsten.
It's like first impressions, innit? Jean-Louis's watching me drive this and he's obviously thinking, what is this yoghurt doing? He's turned it over on his first attempt.
What a clown! I find myself tonight just sort of I don't know whether I can do this.
And that's a horrible thing for me to say, because usually all the way through this I am like, I'm going to win this.
And I just feel like confiding at this stage I'm worried.
Still to come for Will and Kirsten.
Don't let me lose it now.
It's about to get a lot more serious Come on, man, let's have it.
a lot more dangerous Oh, my God! a lot more emotional.
I've not been this scared for a very long time.
And with the series score level 2-2, whoever wins in the snow groomer takes the lead into next weeks' final.
Man, it's tense in here.
Oh, my God! Absolutely terrified.
It's a new day in the French Alps, and Will and Kirsten are waking up to a foot of fresh snow.
A day without crashing would be nice.
Yesterday, Will and Kirsten passed their first test on the snow groomer, but if they're going to make it to the start line for their race in two days' time they've got another two skills to master.
They've demonstrated they can drive the snow groomer, but can they groom a piste? To make the perfect piste, the snow groomer has to level the snow in front and smooth it out with the comb, or tiller, at the back.
The driver has to be in control of two things at once, the steering wheel for the tracks and the joystick for the tiller and the blade.
Tonight, Will and Kirsten will have to master that when they face their second skill test of the week.
First, they need prove to Jean-Louis they can drive and control the blade simultaneously.
Hello! Morning.
How are you today? OK, thanks.
Yesterday was easy.
Today will be more hard.
It's important to know the movement of the blade.
So we have an exercise to learn that.
Lesson two, a game of croquet.
With just ten minutes on the clock, five hoops, a ball and a mini snow plough, Will and Kirsten have to drive the Mule around the course, and using the small blade at the front, direct the ball through the hoops.
Will up's first, and he's got a game plan.
Slow through the hoops, fast round.
That's my method.
Come on! Go! Driving the vehicle whilst operating the blade Come on! he's controlling the ball like a pro.
That's rubbish.
I got it through, the cheat! He just missed it.
Oh, it's rolled back in.
He's all right.
Get it through, now hit it.
Yes! Will's managed to get the first score on the board.
Go on, that's it.
Keep it like that.
He's doing well.
Right in the cab! Right in the cab! But Will won't let a snowball distract him and notches up number two.
That was a belter.
Come on, son! Listen to him.
He thinks he's just scored for Man U in there.
Go on, Giggsy.
Get in there, son! Oh, lucky.
Get in there.
That's four, there's ten seconds left.
Can Will nail the perfect round? Can he do it? Oh! Yes! Come on! Very, very frustrating.
It's going to take some beating.
I just felt like Giggsy flying up the wing, sticking it in.
I enjoyed that.
Thank you.
That was good.
Kirsten must match Will's impressive five out of five.
It's got all the same terms on it that the snow groomer has, side to side, up-and-down.
I thought I might be able to belt it, but no.
Go! She's picked up the controls straight away and is manoeuvring the mule whilst controlling the blade.
Easy, O'Brien.
Now twist it round.
She's scored.
Right, its burst.
She got it through? Did she get it through? She popped it.
It's a good start, and she's on to hoop number two.
Oh, what's that? I think the thing is she needs to be put under a bit more pressure.
Stop it! And with a couple of minutes still left on the clock, Kirsten's got herself in a pickle.
Steady! No! Flipping heck! Jean-Louis's seen enough.
We stop now.
Ten minutes.
It's OK.
Time! I'm coming back.
Lesson over for Kirsten, she's scored one and destroyed one.
This is a disaster, and Will's laughing.
Funny, funny, funny! Have you ever played croquet before? Yes, but not with that swining thing.
Literally, it's done my head in.
Your snowballs didn't help, and I could hear you yelling.
Today has been fun and games.
But tonight, Jean-Louis is taking this up to a whole new level.
La Linga, high in the mountains, where a day of skiers and boarders has left the piste full of holes, bumps and ruts.
Jean Louis knows what he's about to ask Will and Kirsten to do is a big ask.
Test Two.
Will and Kirsten must drive the snow groomer uphill, pushing tons of snow to even out the bumps.
Turning at the top, it's a controlled descent, and using the rear tiller, they must comb the piste from top to bottom.
It's a big challenge for you.
It's one of the most important slopes in Chatel.
This morning, that was a game with the ball.
Tonight it is on my piste.
You don't damage the piste.
Can I duck out of this one? This is a crucial test for Will and Kirsten.
Controlling the snow groomer on a steep slope is a skill they'll need in the final race in less than 48 hours.
I'm quite confident about this, I just want to do everything I've learned and I don't want to lose my grip, because I think I've got one foot in front at the moment and I don't want to lose it.
I'm going to give him a run for his money, definitely.
He's in there doing his hair, as we speak, in the mirror.
So that's how high his confidence level is.
Moving into position, Will and Kirsten know they've got it all to prove.
It will be a slow and steady climb to the top.
Oh, man, here we go.
And from halfway, the piste gets even steeper.
Go! Oh God.
OK, come on.
Shit, this is hard.
As they climb they must keep traction whilst evening out the snow.
If Will and Kirsten don't maintain power, they'll stop climbing and start sliding.
I'm just going to concentrate now.
Keep the lever on.
Go, go, go, go.
OK.
Creeping up the mountain.
, they're both looking strong.
Keep like that.
Oh, man, the concentration is so hard.
It's really steep.
Gosh, the grip starts to go.
But it's only going to get steeper and steeper.
And Jean-Louis knows they've reached a critical point.
If they stop in the middle, it's very difficult to restart.
Will's in total control.
You have good power.
Come on, man, let's have it.
But Kirsten's got a fight on her hands.
This is hard, this bit.
Oh my God! She's not pushing down on the power and under the full weight of the snow, Kirsten's lost traction.
If she can't get the Groomer moving, she'll have to abort her run, and Jean-Louis will remove her from the competition.
Don't lose it now! Jean-Louis' concerned It's killing me.
and Will's powering on.
Come on, man.
With a last-ditch thrust, Kirsten's found some grip.
Oh, I've got a sweat on.
Will's turned for the descent.
I'm trying to breathe! Hitting the accelerator hard, Kirsten's going flat out.
This test isn't about speed.
It's about controlling the vehicle and maintaining traction, but Kirsten's thinks it is and she's going all out to complete the test first.
Quick, quick, quick.
Can she hold her nerve and overtake Will? I'm sweating cobs here.
Oh, she accelerates.
Is she coming? Yeah.
They are going very fast.
Don't let me lose it now.
With only a few metres left, this has turned in to a race.
Allez! Come on! She will be first, and we don't want that.
Who will be first past the post? Where did she come from? She was just here.
I don't know.
Kirsten has pipped Will at the post.
I'm sure it's all blokes that have it - you just can't have someone overtake you.
But it's up to Jean-Louis to deliver tonight's verdict.
Maybe Will has been better on the uphill - better for downhill.
How did it feel when you saw me nip past? It was horrendous to see you pass me.
Tomorrow is another day, more difficult.
It's going to get more difficult! Oh no.
Will and Kirsten are both feeling the effects of tonight's test so head to the ice rink for a gentle wind down.
Whoa! Nearly! I've got it.
After losing in tonight's test, Will's day about to get even worse.
That was it! That wasah! By dislocating his knee! Hang on, my knee's gone.
Has it really? My knee's popped here.
Didn't this happen when you're having sex the other week? Shut up! He did, he told me.
The injury could ruin his chances this week.
Time for some DIY physio.
That's it, that's it, that's it done.
Was that that noise? Are you sure it's definitely in? Yeah, it's fine.
Did you hear it? I heard a click, but I didn't know if it had clicked the other way.
Luckily it's only his pride that's seriously wounded.
I tell you what, it's just not my day today.
In just 24 hours, Will and Kirsten are hoping to battle it out in the all-important race to decide who's the best driver this week.
It's anyone's to win, or to lose.
So, at this point, you don't really want to be making any mistakes.
Last night on the piste it was Will's ego that took a pounding but after ice-skating, it's his body that's feeling sore this morning.
I must admit, every single part of my upper body is aching this morning.
Everywhere.
Jean-Louis is about to put Will and Kirsten through the final day of training.
They've learnt the basics, but tomorrow's race will be a white-knuckle experience.
So it's time to get extreme.
This last test is against the clock.
It's extreme driving today.
No rolling.
No, my rolling days are over.
Today is a rolling day for Kirsten? Don't say that, no.
This last test is against the clock.
Will and Kirsten must drive the mule around trees, over bumps, and across high-sided banks.
If they go too fast on the corners or too slow across the banks, the mule will tip over and it's a fail.
Jean-Louis needs to see how they drive at speed and in the tough conditions of deep snow.
Will's up first.
With his previous on his mind What a tit! He knows he has to get this one right.
I'm up first, so I have to set a good pace for Kirsten to beat.
Hopefully, I'll drive well and quickly.
Let's have it.
He's off, and it's a good, controlled start.
Come on, son! Let's just keep it steady.
Will is smoothly around the tree Speeding up the hill Foot down! Can he slow down quickly enough for the tight turn? That worries me, this.
Yes! Now, it's slam on the accelerator.
But does he have enough speed through the high-sided banks? No problem.
It's a great run.
And Jean-Louis looks impressed.
How was it? Quick! It was good, man.
It was a great rush.
Give us the helmet, I'll give it a go.
Try to roll it, then we're even.
Good luck.
After an impressive run from Will, Kirsten's feeling the pressure.
I'm actually shaking with that.
Three, two, one, go! My heart goes.
Great off the start.
Allez! Allez! Allez! She's off to a flyer.
She's not naturally quick, but I know how badly she wants to win this.
Kirsten flies effortlessly around the tree.
It's a fast run.
She powers up the hill.
Ah! My door is flying open! Oh my God, this is scary.
Approaching the tricky tight turn She's going fast, man! Oh my God! Oh dear! Going too fast, Kirsten lost it.
She didn't hit the brakes early enough before making the turn.
It's finished.
Oh no way! Has she crashed? No! No! Kirsten's mule is going nowhere.
There's only one vehicle of recovering this.
Bring on the snow groomer.
I think she tried to overdo it and tried to beat me and she's overcooked it.
Stop the clock! The good news is, I didn't roll it.
I drove faster than I'd ever go.
Is it Alex, is it the door, or is it the wheel's fault? I drove too fast.
Oh, right.
You've just got to know your limits, you women.
I did a you.
Will and Kirsten might see the funny side, but Jean-Louis doesn't.
Kirsten needs to complete the course, or tomorrow's final is off.
Do it once again.
I've got to go again? Yes.
I'm now really nervous.
5, 4, 3 I can feel the tension from here.
Go! I don't want to allez, allez, you! We allezed, allezed last time! Nervously this time, Kirsten takes the tree without a glitch.
Again, Kirsten goes up the hill at speed, but can she drop down quickly enough without crashing the mule a second time? When it comes to the turning, I'm not going fast.
It's a make-or-break moment.
Slow, slow.
Inside, inside.
Not again, please not again, please! OK.
Oh, she's come round.
I thought she'd done it again.
Thank God! She's nailed it.
Which way now? Jesus! I've lost the plot.
Kirsten must now get up enough speed to avoid the mule tipping over on the high-sided banks.
Allez! Allez! Shut up with your allez! I'm frightened! Oh, no! Oh, you bugger! Oh, God! She's made it.
It's a sprint to the finish, and Kirsten completes the course.
Allez, allez, allez, finish, finish.
I don't like this thing.
I got a bit worried for you there.
I thought you weren't going to make it.
But you done it.
Well done.
Not the fastest time in the world but I completed it, yeah? A little bit better than the first lap.
Yes.
I'm happy you showed me you're able to drive my machine.
Come on, let's have a sit down.
Will and Kirsten have completed their training and tomorrow is race day.
Here we go.
Tonight, they can enjoy some traditional apres-ski.
Sante! Their thoughts are firmly fixed on who will be taking the bragging rights tomorrow.
The thing is we're all happy now, but tomorrow is the last day.
This is when it all counts.
I really want it.
Do you want it? To be honest Of course I want it! Are you mental? This is it, it's 2-2.
Are you ready, though? I'm ready.
Are you ready? See that smile? I'm going to wipe it off your face.
I suppose it's game on, then.
It's decision day in the Alps.
After three days of intense training Will and Kirsten are about to battle it out in the snow groomer to decide who is the best driver this week.
Luckily, I'm going into today feeling like I'm level-pegging, feeling like this is as much mine as it's Will's.
All the fun last night and the games, all over.
Today, time to put your business face on.
Afterwards, we can be friends again.
I need to win this one.
I know the vehicle and I know I can do it.
Although I want it, I need it! If she beats me, can you imagine? Every time I walk down the street, there'll be women just laughing at me and blokes going, "What are you doing? You let the side down, you clown!" Women going, "Oh, bad drivers are we?" I can hear it now.
So I can't lose.
I just couldn't live it down.
In this final race, Jean-Louis has designed a course that will test Will and Kirsten to their limits.
Nice place? Great place.
A wider area? Yes, interesting terrain.
This final head-to-head will demonstrate Will and Kirsten's driving skills in the extreme conditions of a mountain bowl.
During the last week, you showed me you are able to drive my machine.
This afternoon, this is an extreme test.
He's looking for precision and accuracy.
The race is split into three stages.
Stage One, Will and Kirsten must control this ten ton machine in fresh snow and negotiate a tight slalom course.
Stage two, they need to drive the groomer along a treacherous steep slope.
If they can't maintain grip or lose traction, the machine will slide to the bottom.
Stage 3, they must power the groomer uphill, hurl the machine over the edge, and perform a descent without losing control and cross the finish line.
That's my worst nightmare.
Everything I dread ends up happening to me.
With the series score level at 2-2, Will knows if he loses today, he has to win next week's final showdown just to manage a draw.
Three, two, one.
Go! Come on now, this is ours to win, let's have it.
OK, let's do this.
Will's off.
He's got just ten minutes to complete the course.
Just getting to stage one, the tight slalom, will require all Will's concentration.
I'm a bit nervous now.
If he doesn't keep his foot down, the groomer will get stranded in the snow.
Look at the snow, it's deep snow, that To test their precision driving, the clearance is just inches.
This is a nightmare manoeuvre.
I'm passing really close here.
Can Will make it through? OK, I touched it.
Yeah? Yeah, yeah.
So tight! Will's got his snow groomer stuck.
Get round, get round, get round! He's had to reverse and try again.
Am I clear? Oh! Just touching.
He's losing valuable time.
That was so tight, man! Yeah.
Oh! On to stage two, along the steep slope can Will control the groomer without sliding sideways down the hill? Oh, man! Not too fast.
Keep the foot up, it's easier.
Man, it's tense in here.
I really think I'm going to actually cry.
Up? Yes.
You're joking! Whoa! Stage three, it's a difficult and dangerous manoeuvre.
Will must power the snow groomer up a sheer face to the top of the mountain.
That's really steep.
That was so hard, man! But it's nothing compared to what he's about to face.
Whoa! Jesus Christ! Whoa! Shit! Go, go, go, go, go, go.
Go! Oh shit! Will's done it.
Is a near-perfect run.
He completed the course in eight minutes and 43 seconds.
Jesus Christ! I just screamed all the way downhill like a girl.
And it's got rival Kirsten worried.
That's unbelievable.
Your brain says stop, but you've got to keep going.
Just try and keep confident because honestly, there were a few times I was very, very unnerved.
I'm nearly crying with it.
You'll be all right.
You've come off going it's rock hard.
It's so hard.
I am actually quite nervous.
Don't Don't be upset.
I'm absolutely I've really got the fear, I've really got the fear.
The one thing you can't afford to have is fear.
There's so many dangerous parts to it.
It's constant like this It's like you're on a roller coaster, but you're driving it.
I've not been this scared for a very, very long time.
Wracked with fear, can Kirsten even complete the course, let alone match Will's time? We can do this, we can do this.
We can do it, we can do it, we can do it.
Three, two, one, go! Your heart goes.
We're not here for fun, we're here to work.
Ploughing through the deep snow, Kirsten's first obstacle is the slalom.
Will lost time here, can she get herself through? Look at this! Going second, she's driving on compacted snow.
Flipping heck.
And now, Kirsten has less grip.
Momentum is really important.
If your tracks aren't moving, you'll just slide and it's hard to get going again.
Wow, it's really tight.
I'm so pleased with that, I was bricking it.
The loss of traction has cost Kirsten a minute.
She now needs to put her foot down to stage two.
Through the high slope, can she make up for lost time? Look at this angle! Who decided this was a good angle?! The conditions are getting even worse, and Kirsten has a battle on her hands just to stop the groomer from sliding downhill.
Slowly, perfect.
This is all right, this is all right.
It's not going to get any easier for Kirsten on stage three.
At the top of the hill is the manoeuvre she's dreading, the stomach-churning drop to the bottom.
This is it, this is the hardest bit.
She'll be really scared.
I'm bricking myself.
This hill is absolutely terrifying.
Here she comes.
Oh my God! Keep me right, because I'm absolutely terrified.
It's like the big dipper.
That's all right now, it's all right.
It's all right.
Well done! My God Alex, we just did it.
You were perfect.
We did it! Kirsten's completed the course in just over nine minutes.
Oh, my gosh.
The only thing we haven't had in there is tears.
Taking into consideration the more challenging conditions she's had to drive in, there's nothing between them.
With the series score level at 2-2, who will take the lead into next week's final showdown? Will and Kirsten did a really fantastic job.
I've made my decision, and now I'm going to tell them who's the winner.
I was very impressed with the way you drove all the last week.
Today that was difficult.
You impressed me.
Thank you.
I've made my decision.
OK.
This is so hard! It's a draw.
Very funny.
It's a draw? It's a draw.
You're kidding? My heart has literally come up, it's there.
Now we have to go through all this again in the next one.
It's a draw! Old Jean-Louis spun it right on its head.
Thank you for all your help.
I dig it's fair to say it's a draw.
Imagine the nerves on the last one.
Next time, it's the final showdown.
They'll be facing the mighty tree harvester in Uruguay.
The six-wheeled monster truck with teeth.
As the rivalry riches fever-pitch Let the games begin! My God! Will and Kirsten battle it out one last time.
Come on! No way! Who will be the ultimate winner of the World's Toughest Driving Tests? And the winner is
