Zero Hour s01e07 Episode Script

Sync

Previously on "Zero Hour" My wife lied to me.
She's after those clocks.
The clocks are a map to the true cross of Christ.
The Shepherds have struggled to protect the cross from the Pyrates.
Once we find the cross, it'll be a time of revelation.
Korbin Sturm.
He was conscripted into the Nazi Party for field research on something called Zero Hour.
I saw something I can't explain.
A Nazi officer with my face.
Am I your son? There was a duffel bag.
I decided to take a peek inside.
And there you were.
Oh, my God.
Unbelievable.
We found all the clocks.
We need to meet.
It's time to end this.
[ Clock ticking .]
White Vincent: 6 is the number of harmony, the balance between spirit and flesh.
We must follow the path to life, even if the road ends in death.
[ Water splashing .]
That wiretap we had on Hank's phone is still active.
This is from late last night.
Hank: Hello? Laila: [ American accent .]
Hello, Hank.
We need to meet.
It's time to end this.
That voice that's Laila, that's all you have to say? "We need to meet"? There's more.
In person.
Right.
But I set the terms.
I'll text instructions in an hour.
She's right here in New York.
Hank didn't tell you about this? [ Birds chirping, squawking .]
[ Sighs .]
Hey there Laila.
How you been? What's going on? Why isn't Hank here? Because he doesn't trust you.
You don't understand.
There's a bus pulling up to that stop.
If you want to meet Hank, be on it.
One-time offer.
Hey! Wait! Wait! Take off your jacket.
It's good to see you.
I don't want to hear it.
Just take off your jacket.
All right.
Switch with me.
This is my stop.
Your stop is seven stops up.
There are further instructions under the bench.
Hey.
I'm really sorry About all of it.
I really hope so.
We lost her.
[ Birds chirping .]
That's quite the run-around you gave me.
You can drop the accent.
I want to hear your real voice.
I just thought this would be easier for No it's not.
[ Chuckles softly .]
All right then.
[ Australian accent .]
This is me.
You know, I never would have guessed that you'd have a cruel streak.
How so? Come on.
Punishing me like this? Making me meet you here where you first proposed? I thought by meeting here, I might be able to see straight 'Cause the last time we stood on this bridge, I was so nervous that you were gonna say no.
And looking back, that seems pretty stupid, 'cause I could have proposed on a garbage dump No.
and you would have said yes because it was your job to say yes.
No, no.
It wasn't like that.
Hank, it I do not need you to defend your actions.
I need you to explain them.
All right.
Come on.
I want answers straight answers.
Why were you put in my life? To protect you.
Protect me? From what? I don't know.
Why did you refer to me as "Subject 352"? All I know is that 352 has something to do with a scientific program out of Germany in 1938 called Zero Hour.
The last lab we I.
D.
'd was in Paraguay, but the Pyrates destroyed it.
Yeah, Santa Marta Clinic.
Yes.
I saw a film there of a man 1971.
[ Woman screams .]
Who is he? I don't know.
[ Groans .]
Hank, please listen to me.
My position with the Shepherds It requires that I follow orders on blind faith.
Okay, then here's an order.
Tell your people that I am open to another stab at a trade This clock for some real answers by tomorrow.
Otherwise, I'm gonna start talking to the other interested parties.
Hank.
Hank, you don't want to do that.
Listen to me.
The Pyrates are radical believers committed to bringing about the end of time so that they and they alone might be delivered.
Bible stories, fables.
Not fables, fact.
They want to force the hand of God.
I'm not gonna let that happen.
That's what this is all about.
From when we first met.
I may have been assigned to protect you, but it didn't end there for me.
I truly loved you.
I still do.
That's a touching answer, but I don't remember asking the question.
Deliver the message.
Zero Hour 01x07 Sync How was it? How was she? Kind of hard to explain.
Well, did she have any answers about the DNA results? Like how the hell you could possibly be the biological father of a 72-year-old man? I think she's being kept in the dark about most of it.
Well, for what it's worth, I ran the whole mind-blower by Sam and Glenton in I.
T.
, and they came back with the two most likely explanations Time travel or reincarnation.
How is that helping in any way? By the process of elimination.
What? What is that clock doing here? I said they need to stay hidden.
Yeah, well, we wanted to check out the last clock Erik found The 12th clock.
I told you that that clock leads back to clock number 1 at the flea market.
But the clocks are supposed to show the way to the true cross.
They can't just lead us in a circle, right? Which got us thinking there has to be something more to it.
There's an engraving in the bottom, see? Latin.
Yeah.
We had it translated, if you want to check it out.
"Without 12, there is none.
"With a dozen, there is one, "through which divine light shines and reveals the beginning of time.
" Man: What kind of language is that? Clear the room.
Clear the room.
I require privacy immediate privacy.
[ Dialing .]
[ Ringing .]
Melanie: You better have a good reason for calling.
Of course I do.
I'm going to need the services of a demotic translator.
What have you found? A potential path.
The u-boat's navigation log, coded in demotic.
I'll have someone sent immediately.
White Vincent.
Don't worry.
I'm not angry.
I recognize it was ignorance that caused you to show him where to find me.
I also recognize that, in a way, I'm responsible for your ignorance.
Always delivering messages without knowing what they mean.
You see, I have not adequately prepared you for judgment day.
The end times are near, and that fills you with fear.
But not all need perish under God's wrath.
Certainly not the prepared.
Arron: Oh, heads up.
There's a storm coming our way.
Hey, Beck.
I want to speak to Hank alone.
Yeah, sure.
Did you remember to check your gun at the door? 'Cause them's the rules.
You're right.
That's not really a rule.
You saw Laila.
Yeah.
You met her without FBI involvement and without me.
You know how badly I want answers about my husband's death, but you cut me out.
- I didn't think, okay? - You didn't think.
- Is that so hard to believe? - It is, yes.
In fact, I think you're lying right now.
Lying? Not necessarily to me, but certainly to yourself.
You are so desperate to believe that the woman you fell in love with, that that some part of the life that you shared was as real to her as it was to you.
I think that's why you met with her alone To offer her the chance, however slight, to say or do something that would convince you that she still cares, that she ever cared.
I get that an expertise in reading people is part of your job description, but what makes you think that you can see inside of my head, my heart? I don't need to see inside.
You're still wearing your wedding ring.
You contact Laila again without FBI involvement, and I may just have to arrest you.
- For what? - Oh, let's see.
Uh, aiding and abetting a criminal with potential ties to a known terrorist.
White Vincent? Well, that's where you're wrong.
They're both looking for the clocks, but they are working for different sides.
Oh, really? Is that what the liar told you? [ Breathes deeply .]
Father.
I've been reflecting on Hank's demands, and I've come to a decision.
From this point forward, I will personally take over negotiations.
You You're cutting me out? No, sparing you further entanglement.
Hank is only looking for answers.
[ Chuckles .]
As are we all.
For my own solace, father, I-I really need to know what is Hank's role in all of this? You need to know? In the end, God's love is all we really need.
That's all we really have.
Right? Yes.
I'm I'm sorry, father.
No, I-I understand the The great burden that you've been shouldering your years with Hank, your attachment.
Please understand that the pain and confusion that you feel now will only leave by letting go.
When we destroy the bridges behind us, we're left no choice but to move forward.
[ Door opens, closes .]
We have a problem.
Word has come to us that a demotic translator has been hired to join a salvage operation in the north sea.
The Pyrates must have recovered Sturm's sub.
That's what we fear.
The sub that he used to transport the true cross to its final resting place.
If they found something on board, some clue, they could uncover the location of the cross.
Not if we find it first.
Hank Galliston has been lying to us.
He doesn't possess one clock.
He has all the remaining clocks.
Then we do have a chance to beat the Pyrates to the cross, which means we we must hasten negotiations with Hank Galliston.
We must protect the location of the true cross.
The only way to do that is to take his clocks and his life.
[ Clock ticking .]
[ Door opens .]
Hello? Hank? Hey.
Over here.
I was on my way home when I got your call.
Thanks for coming over, really.
You do realize it's almost 2:00 in the morning.
I asked Laila for another meeting, and I thought you should know.
I see.
And I wanted you to know that we're in this together.
You were right.
It's time for me to let her go.
Yeah, I wore mine for two years before I took it off.
One less reminder, you know? Yeah, I get it.
It's one thing to say you're moving on, but to actually make it happen And then seeing her.
That must have been hard as hell.
It was.
I mean, at first.
But then I looked into her eyes, and it was like a complete stranger staring back at me.
Yeah, and you're sure you want to do this sting? I mean, it could go bad for Laila.
I don't care.
I want you on this.
I mean, Laila, Anna, whatever it is we're calling her that woman I owe exactly nothing.
You keep on surprising me, Hank.
You're a lot tougher than I first thought.
And you're a bit softer.
It's funny how that works.
[ Chuckles softly .]
So what's the plan for Beck Riley After all this is over? You know, I haven't told a single person.
Well, then tell me.
Well, this FBI job it's a means to an end.
But it's It's not me, you know? So when this is over I'm done.
I want to go back to who I was.
Be a social worker again? I want to be happy again.
I want to fly around the world without a gun on my hip.
I want to get lost.
I want to forget any of this ever happened.
Sounds pretty perfect.
What about you? What's the Hank Galliston plan? I'm still working on it.
[ Chuckles .]
You must be my demotic translator, Professor Challis.
Oh, well, I'm the only guy not wearing rubber boots, so, yeah, I guess that must be me.
We're a bit short on time, so thank you for flying here so quickly.
No, no.
Thank you.
A find like this comes along once in a lifetime.
So I'm told.
Uh, your, um your specialty again? You're you're you're an archaeologist of some sort? You might say I have an interest in buried treasures.
Only a half-dozen people on earth know this language.
How long will it take to translate? Well, um let's see.
Some irregular conjugations.
And if you look over here Best guess, please.
I don't know.
Um eight hours, tops.
But I-I got to ask you Where the hell did you find this stuff? Translate that first.
Then when you're finished There's plenty of time for conversation.
[ Cellphone vibrating .]
[ Beep .]
Hello? Hello.
Hank.
It's Father Reggie.
I know you're expecting Laila.
So you're a Shepherd after all.
Yes.
I prefer to speak the truth, and now I can.
And right now I need your clocks.
Clock singular.
No, we found Sturm's son, Hank.
He told us what you have, so please.
There are eight clocks in play, and I had to take over these negotiations.
All right.
Negotiate.
All the clocks for all your answers.
Someone will meet you in 10 minutes at Grand Ferry Park.
[ Beep .]
Okay.
Grab your jackets.
We're leaving.
Hank, you cannot just give him these clocks.
I am not planning on it.
That call was not about a meeting.
They want to find out where we hid the clocks.
The only way we could meet in 10 minutes Is if all the clocks were here.
I guarantee you they're watching this building.
Arron: How are we gonna get them out? We split up.
The boiler room of our building connects to our next-door neighbor, so, Arron, I want you to go out the back.
If you see anybody, run.
Rachel, the lady I double-park with They're not gonna be watching for her car.
But that means you have to take the clocks.
You up for that? Of course.
But what about you? Arron and I get the fun part.
We're the decoys.
Father Reggie: Hank! Please, please.
Hank, let's go for a drive.
[ Clock ticking .]
It's beautiful, isn't it? Living in the city, we forget how much God is out here in nature.
Tell me why I'm here.
I'll explain everything inside.
Rachel, please stay out here with Father Zoller.
I will not wait outside.
What do you want with Hank? Don't worry.
I'll be okay.
Please, right this way.
Father Reggie: After almost a century, the 12 clocks are finally brought home.
Together, they contain the route to the true cross.
We need you to unlock this final puzzle.
Why me? Well, you've spent more time with these clocks than anyone on earth.
But, more importantly, this has always been your task, Hank.
From the moment you were born, your destiny has been tied to the cross.
What does that mean? Unlock this puzzle, and you get your answers.
Despite all this, I'm still a man of my word.
Are you on board the ship? Red: Yeah, I'm here.
But I don't know how much they've translated.
Then you'd better find that out.
[ Door opens .]
Oh.
Hey.
Can, um can I help you? Yeah, I'm, uh, just looking for the cleaning supplies You know, bleach, mop.
You seen anything like that around? Well, this is, um, basically scientific equipment.
Sorry.
No, don't worry about it.
What's that you're working on? Oh, this? It's kind of technical.
I got my A.
A.
degree, man.
Try me.
Well, okay.
Basically, um, I'm translating this navigation log from a Nazi submarine.
This may tell us where they stopped on their journey.
It also may tell us why they were in the arctic in the first place.
Don't talk his head off, Professor.
After all, he's just a man looking for bleach.
It's usually my habit to run extensive background checks on people under my employ.
So let's consider this a first formal interview, shall we? [ Both grunting .]
[ Gasps .]
Please don't kill me.
Father Mark, I need to speak with you.
I'm sorry, Laila.
I have precious little time.
You brought me into this.
I'm only here because of you.
I need to know about Hank.
I'm sorry, but I'm not at liberty to tell you any more than you've been told.
I understand.
You remember flight 71? Of course.
I booked you on that flight to safely escort Dr.
Riley out of Moscow.
Then you must also remember the car crash The reason I never made that flight.
[ Screams .]
My cab struck that bus in our rush to the airport.
The driver was killed, and I miraculously walked away Or, rather, I crawled.
As I lay there on the street, running prayers through my head For the driver, for myself I saw it, the message.
What message? Subject 352 Hank.
It was a sign.
I was put in Hank's life for a reason.
I must know why.
"Without 12, there is none.
"With a dozen, there is one, "which through divine light shines to reveal the beginning of time.
" "With a dozen, there is one.
" One what? One clock? One map? One [ Door opens .]
Father Reggie: What do you think you're doing? - She can't be here.
- Why not? Who has sacrificed more for our cause than her? Have you? I told you this is about more than your personal needs.
My needs are God's needs.
My faith has never wavered.
Not yet.
I know what needs to be done, and when the time comes I won't flinch.
[ Clock ticking .]
I guess it's a little late to apologize.
You could say that, yeah.
Well, maybe we should just get down to it.
I'm here to help.
Okay.
One thing help.
There's an identical piece of glass in every clock that doesn't have anything to do with the clock design.
It's just an extra piece.
And you used to tell me that in a perfect clock every piece serves a purpose.
Arron: Tell me you have some idea of where they are.
Not yet, but we're working on it.
Take a seat, make yourself comfortable.
Can't can't you, like, trace their cellphones or or something? Their phones were turned off.
We're doing everything we can.
Well, there's got to be something else you can do.
You're the FBI.
This is your job.
Take it easy.
You're not the only one worried here.
If I say I'm doing everything I can, I mean it.
Finally, one piece of good news.
We got a plate hit.
Oh, thank God.
Let me see.
What what What is that? A license-plate camera I.
D.
'd the abduction vehicle, the one that took Hank and Rachel.
Well, that's good, right? That's a good lead.
That's very good.
The cameras tracked the car getting off 87 North outside of Rosendale.
Well, there's a lot of empty land out there.
- They could be anywhere.
- So we narrow the search.
They're Shepherds, holy men, right? So we look for properties out there getting religious tax breaks.
Rachel: This is crazy.
At least tell me what they're doing in there.
Hank: I can't get this one.
I'm afraid I'm gonna break it.
Careful.
Almost there.
[ Gasps .]
Nice catch.
Thank you.
12 pieces of glass.
"With a dozen, there is one.
" One what? What do we do with them? Verse said, "through which divine light shines.
" Divine light it's God's spirit, his essence.
Or maybe it just means light.
Ahh Clever.
So they etched a pattern into the glass, but what is it? What is it? What am I looking at? Nothing yet.
But if we put them together Maybe that's how 12 becomes one.
Ahh.
I don't see anything Just lines.
There's got to be some way to align these.
Hey, there's a tiny, little divot here.
You can barely see it.
This has one, too.
Let's put all the divots on the top.
[ Breathing heavily .]
Praise God.
That's what the Shepherds hid all those years ago.
It's an out-of-proportion map.
The map must be broken or warped by time? Maybe it was meant to be warped.
You ever wonder why they scattered the clocks all over the globe? To protect them from Hitler.
You have to go all the way to the arctic to do that? India? Maybe the location is part of the puzzle.
12 apostles, 12 locations.
Arctic circle Chennai Princeton Wismar Istanbul And Erik he told me he found his clocks in Reykjavik.
Jakarta Saka Port-au-Prince Shiraz Cayenne.
All the hiding places on the map Form a perfect circle.
Look 12 points, just like a clock.
Only thing missing are the hands.
The hands always originate at the center.
That's where the clocks lead Strasbourg.
Where all the clocks were made.
The beginning of time.
I've done my end of the bargain.
Now it's your turn.
[ Cellphone rings .]
[ Beep .]
Yes? The FBI? How close? Hank, I promised you answers, and a man of the cloth keeps his word.
Your life is a direct result of project Zero Hour, a scientific program that harnesses the power of the true cross to bring about the end of days.
How? The cross, if it's even real, is just a piece of wood.
Yes, but within that wood is a power greater than 1,000 atomic bombs.
What does that have to do with me? Hank, you are the detonator.
Brother moment.
[ Whispering indistinctly .]
Father Reggie: We must leave now.
[ Whispering indistinctly .]
I understand.
[ Sirens wailing .]
God forgive me.
Anna [ Gunshot .]
Aah! Let's go.
- Laila, what are you - Move.
[ Clock ticking .]
[ Phone ringing .]
The charts have been translated.
Will they prove helpful in our search? Extremely.
I'm confident to have the cross in my possession within the week.
Good.
No loose ends.
[ Beep .]
You don't understand a word I'm saying, do you? I know you lost your parents, and that's a hard thing.
But you don't have to be afraid anymore.
We'll take care of you.
Salvation is almost here.
No, I haven't forgotten.
I'm just visiting with our new patient.
[ Inhales deeply .]
Now, where were we? The seven bowls of God's wrath.
"The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun.
"And it was given to him "to afflict man with heat and fire.
And men were scorched by the great heat.
" "And they cursed the name of God.
" [ Sniffling .]
[ Footsteps on ladder .]
Please, please, don't don't kill me.
I-I did everything you asked.
Yeah.
You've proven very helpful, which is why I'm going to offer you a chance for survival.
I suggest you take a running jump.
That's your best hope on missing the propeller blades.
Unless you don't feel up for the challenge.
Can I at least have a life preserver? Of course.
But you better hurry.
The longer you hesitate, the less likely it will prove useful.
Good luck.
[ Thudding .]
Come on! [ Indistinct shouting .]
I know her.
Are you okay? I'm fine, I'm fine.
Where's Hank? I was hoping he was with you.
Nobody followed us.
Sorry.
You can relax.
I thought it was the only way you'd agree to come with me.
Hank's phone just turned on.
We got a solid signal.
- Where? - Grand Central.
He knows we're tracking his phone.
He's leading us right to her.
Hank: So, what's your plan? You've got the FBI and the Shepherds after you.
You just gonna create another identity and disappear? No.
I'm gonna go to Strasbourg, and I am gonna find the true cross and I'm gonna destroy it.
Why? You heard what they said about you and the cross.
They're never gonna stop hunting you.
You want me to believe that you will destroy the cross of Christ? Why would you do that? If Jesus were here now and he saw that people were willing to kill over possession of the cross, I believe that he would tell me to destroy it because it's just a symbol.
Two pieces of wood, nothing more.
[ Sighs .]
Will you come with me? Beck is probably hunting us with half the FBI.
How could we possibly get away? I know how to avoid the FBI.
I can show you.
You haven't told me one true thing.
How can I possibly trust you? I don't know, Hank.
Tell me.
What what do you need? Answer one question.
Yeah, anything.
The day that I proposed, you told me that that was the happiest day of your life.
Yes.
After we kissed, you cried and you rushed off to call your mother and tell her the good news Or did you run away, call the Shepherds, and tell them that the plan had worked? Yes.
That's exactly what I did.
That's all I needed to hear.
[ Siren wailing .]
Wait.
There must be some kind of mistake.
The signal says they're here.
Hi.
Um, did you happen to see
