Kiss it up to God

Previously on "Our Kind of People"
You and Angela have
something going, right?
I might've messed that up.
She's got her ex hanging around.
- I love you.
- Aww, I'll catch you soon, okay? I got to break up with her.
Mommy? Rose was my dearest friend.
LEAH: When you told me to torpedo her Graceties membership, you destroyed us becoming real sisters.
ANGELA: Piggy turned herself in for murdering Darius Bates.
Leave Oak Bluffs, and I will help Piggy and set up seed money for Eve's Crown.
Darius? Teddy gave it to him to hide the night that your mother was arrested.
Get ready, Teddy, 'cause I'm coming for you.
PIGGY: Alright, no peeking.
Now sit your precious booty all the way down.
Alright.
- Open! - What is this? This is my new line Nikki's Halo.
Named after the most precious, beautiful, sweetest angel in my life.
- [LAUGHS.]
Mom! - I know we're shutting down the store and moving out of the Bluffs, but I wanted to remind you of everything you've accomplished this summer Mm-hmm how far you've come.
I am so proud of you.
Thank you, Mom, but but you know all of these doors opened because of you.
Like, I Look at me.
I'm a debutante, and I'm in love, and - Ohh.
- [LAUGHTER.]
And my life changed because you had the courage to come here and start all of this.
Yeah, you say that sitting in the middle of my closed shop.
Oh, hush.
You had a big summer, too.
Look, you opened Eve's Crown.
You did right by your mama.
You didn't get the deal that you wanted, but Ange, you got so much more.
[LAUGHS.]
- I'm gonna go post all of these.
- You do that.
[SIGHS.]
I am proud, but I just can't stop thinking about what was stolen from Mama.
I know that gun Darius gave you has something to do with her.
I think if I could just talk to Leah Angela, I know we want to get Teddy, but I feel bad enough that you agreed to leave town on account of me.
You need that seed money that Teddy promised you so you can take Eve's Crown to the next level.
If your father finds out we are still poking around in his secrets, he'll renege, and, baby, you will just walk away with nothing.
I ain't worried about him, okay? Mama is watching over me.
I know that.
Now, listen, Nikki has one Deb event left at the Grand Illumination Ball, which means I have two days to clear Mama's name.
And then we'll leave the island for good.
Our kind of people Ooh, ooh Trying to see the good in you Brought out the bad in me Always giving the benefit of the doubt Put my energy in a drought - [CLEARS THROAT.]
- Is that really asking too much? Wow.
Well, there was a time when the sight of me in a towel would at least get a "Hey, now.
" Still reading the note that your mother left you? She was this Graceties chapter's most revered president.
What have I done as president? I voted against my sister to keep some secret for Daddy that he won't even tell me about.
It was shady.
Angela once told me that we were two sides of the same coin.
I just never suspected that I was the side that was facing down towards the gutter.
No, hey, stop, stop.
You're being too hard on yourself.
You remember what we used to tell the twins when they were babies? They would drop a snack on the floor and they just sat there and they would cry and cry and cry and cry.
- Pick it up and "kiss it up to God.
" - That's right.
If you pick up your mistake fast enough, you hold it up to the sky, all the bad will be undone.
Mm.
Sweetheart, everything can be fixed.
I'll have those plans for you by the end of the week.
- Excellent.
- I'm really looking forward to that.
Ah.
How's Leah faring this morning? Grieving.
Feeling guilty for helping you run her sister out of town The same sister that was supporting her at the funeral.
Do not fret.
Angela and I have made a deal that benefits both of us.
As for Leah, we're holding a press conference this morning which is bound to lift her spirits.
Franklin Holdings is announcing that we are back in the black.
Congratulations, Teddy.
Thank you.
We're also announcing that Franklin Holdings has permanently acquired Darmon Foods.
You senile now, too, Teddy? Clear enough to know it's a bad day to be Raymond Dupont.
I've recently hired a private investigator to look into Jack's "accidental" death.
Now, he informed me that Jack was seen giving the key card to his room The room where he was found dead To Leah.
You put my daughter in the position where she was seeking comfort outside of her marriage, which is further proof that you are undeserving of her and unfit to step in as patriarch.
Right, I-I see, because the man who cheated on his wife and had an illegitimate child, who he's also running out of town - That man, he's fit.
- Mm-hmm.
I haven't, as of yet, spoken to the police, as you had the case closed so quickly, but my PI also told me that a few members saw you enter Jack's room the day of his death.
Now, I'm sure the police would find that very interesting.
And despite any previous misconceptions, I am taking back Mr.
Harmon's shares.
So, as I said, bad day to be Raymond Dupont.
NIKKI: I can't believe the Ball is in two days.
I've been meaning to say thank you to you guys for holding me down since my grandmother well, passed.
I wouldn't have been anywhere else.
Losing my grandma was one of the toughest things I've ever been through, but having Mama Eve up in heaven is like having a guardian angel.
Like, she guided us here to the Bluffs, and now I have Nate and Taylor.
And I-I didn't know how dope it was to have cousins.
Whatever Grandma Rose is planning up there, I'm sure it's incredible.
I like that.
Thank you.
Well, since I only have a couple more days of beach living left, I'm gonna go do that quicksand thing with my toes.
[LAUGHS.]
Okay.
I can't keep acting like everything is cool.
I know, but it's just I don't think that this is the right time to tell her that we're back together.
She deserves to have a good end to the summer.
Taylor! Come here! Right.
Come on.
[LAUGHTER.]
Thanks for coming over and for coming to the funeral.
I wanted to be there for you, - and I was hoping we could talk.
- Yeah, of course, but first, I have a surprise for you.
Thank you, everyone, for making the time for this emergency meeting of the Graceties.
What is this? [SIGHS.]
The other day, I made an error in judgment when I cast a down vote for Angela Vaughn's membership.
This summer, Angela has brought a fresh perspective to our group.
I mean, from the very beginning, she showed her value when she saved our fashion show.
I mean, many of our alumni are very impressed with her tenacity.
You called us all together for this? According to the bylaws, the only way to revisit a down vote is if the senior member of the chapter grants an exception.
I am the senior member of the chapter.
Which is why you are here so that we can discuss - Madame President - No, no, no, no.
Come on, come on.
You keep spitting in the face of well-worn tradition Allowing girls to escort girls to the Cotillion.
And now you're trying to shoehorn your candidate into the club to suit your own whims.
This isn't about whims.
It's about what's right.
Alright, a few of us have been talking, and we realize that you are understandably emotional.
But we also realize that it is clearly affecting your leadership.
If you don't think that you can uphold the rules of this chapter as its president, then perhaps you'd like to take a seat and hand over the biggest event of the summer to someone we can trust.
Those rules are antiquated and you know it.
Your mother believed in those rules, and I am not going to dance on my friend Rose's grave and change them now.
Keep my mother's name out of your mouth.
- Olivia, try me! - No, she she is She is a spiteful old bitch.
This is your grief talking, okay? I've been there.
I've lived it.
You can throw this Ball in your sleep, and I'll help you.
But right now, just chill and do what you do best.
For those of you who are in doubt, let me make this very clear I will not be "taking a seat.
" I'm the president of this chapter, and this Grand Illumination Ball's gonna be the best one ever For my mother, for her legacy.
So dress to impress, ladies, because the bar just got real high.
Meeting adjourned.
Well, I don't understand Why does Angela still need to leave town? You said it was Angela digging that could hurt Mommy.
Well, Mommy's gone.
As patriarch of this family, do me a favor and just let it go.
Angela was there for you through your heart attack.
She has been there for me more times than she needed to be.
And, you know, just to let her walk away without saying anything is shameful and the opposite of a patriarch.
- Mr.
Franklin.
- Mr.
Franklin! Hello, hello, everyone.
[REPORTERS SHOUTING INDISTINCTLY.]
Thank you all for joining us today for the opening of the Louis Franklin Stadium.
And I would like to give a special shout-out to a family who became one of Franklin's highest-performing acquisitions at the stadium's concession stand by featuring an all-beef hot dog with mustard and sweet relish and sauerkraut The "Dupont Dog.
" [CHUCKLES.]
Dupont Dog.
[CHUCKLES WEAKLY.]
I don't think so.
Aside from hot dogs, the Louis Franklin Stadium will be offering American luxury, affordability, and the best damn team that this country has ever seen.
So, King James, watch out for your throne, 'cause we're coming for your crown.
- [TV SHUTS OFF.]
- Shut up.
He thinks he's so untouchable just 'cause he has money and power.
I asked you over here 'cause I need your help, and I think I have something on Teddy.
Darius gave that to Piggy.
We think it has something to do with the night my mother was arrested.
I think it's connected to Teddy.
Now, I know your dad worked for him.
Is it possible that he bought it? Could there be paperwork in his stuff? I know it's hard going through those things, but No, no.
I wanna help you.
I'll I'll get to looking ASAP.
Thank you.
So, I hear you're moving back to Boston? I've been trying to figure out how to tell you.
- ANGELA, I'm - PIGGY: Sorry to interrupt, but you need to see this, Ange.
I've been doing research on the web for newspaper clippings from '84 and found out that Teddy's brother Louis was killed the same night as the Grand Illumination Ball.
Shot in the head.
The case was never solved, and apparently, he was very vocal about the drug problem in Edgartown and was working to clean up the area.
I remember Teddy saying that when he died, they weren't on good terms.
Well, my dad collected rents for the apartments he owned over there.
Some of them were known crack houses.
It would have been easy for Teddy to plant that stash on Eve.
Well, you better be damn sure if you're gonna put Teddy Franklin on blast.
He could take it out on Angela.
I would never put Angela in danger like that.
Oh, trust me, I know.
And that is exactly why we're leaving here tomorrow night.
- I'll see what I can find.
- ANGELA: Thank you.
NIKKI: I was thinking you could come to Boston for winter break.
You know, we could go ice skating and we could watch Debbie Allen's "Hot Chocolate Nutcracker.
" Yeah.
Nikki, can we talk? We're breaking up? We're breaking up.
Why? It's the end of summer, and you're going back to Boston.
Taylor, I W-We can We can do long-distance.
I wanna make this work.
I love you.
You don't love me? You can't even say it.
So, what? I-I was just something to make your summer more interesting? - You were bored, or something? - No, Nikki, it's not like that.
- You just wanted something to play with? - No.
Then what is it like? What is it like, Taylor? - We were frien - Tell me what it's like! Are you serious? As if falling off a yacht and telling the police your girlfriend pushed you wasn't excitement enough.
I hate you.
I wish I I wish I never met you.
[SNIFFLES.]
NATE: So, what kind of garlic bread? I mean, how do you make it? You say you like You want garlic bread like you got a problem with the toast I make.
Yeah, because it's toast.
I'm talking about the garlic - You okay? - No.
Taylor broke up with me.
Oh.
I told her I loved her and I wanted to fight for us 'cause she's, like, the first person I've ever really loved.
I feel really stupid.
NATE: I would have done the same thing, baby girl.
You have to really fight for your first love.
Can we just not go to the Grand Illumination Ball? It's not like you got inducted to the Graceties.
I just really feel like I can't see her again.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But you know what? I know it may not feel like this right now, but you're gonna love again.
You're gonna feel the butterflies again.
You think so? I know so.
You know, Mother used to say that if, uh, you take a noodle, close your eyes, throw it over your back onto the wall, whatever shape it makes is the first initial of your next.
Yeah, and your other grandmother also got married five times before she died, - so she would know.
- [LAUGHS.]
- Five is a lot of times.
- [LAUGHTER.]
But, like Okay, I don't know if Mom told you, but I'm bi, so I probably need two noodles.
Like, so, it goes over the shoulder like that? And the other one goes like Oh, it goes like that.
- Whaaaat? - [CHUCKLES.]
Oh, ho, ho.
- Your daughter just - You shall know Ahh! Ahh! Nate! [LAUGHTER.]
Stop it right now! Wait, wait, wait, wait! Okay, okay, okay, okay.
- I'm just kidding.
Here we go.
- Hey, no! [LAUGHTER.]
I'm so happy to see you smiling.
Honey, you don't know how life is gonna end up.
I had no idea that he would ever come back into our lives, but love is powerful and it never dies.
It just changes form, like energy.
Like Mama Eve.
Like Mama Eve.
Funny how you acting brand new I still feel a way Why you filmin' me while I'm workin'? NATE: Babe, this is your first hairpiece.
I'm trying to capture history.
- Say something.
- You remember that day? - What? - I was so proud of you.
Ready? Oh, my gosh.
Hi, I'm Angie, and my hair company, Eve's Crown, is about to be the bomb empire, okay? You heard it here first.
[LAUGHS.]
That's it! Yep.
You rolled around with that camcorder, - trying to be the next Spike.
- Alright, turn it off.
- You and all that smacking.
- Stop playing! [BEEPS.]
What is this? Uh Look at you.
So, is this why you made my favorite [GASPS.]
Stop.
This is that cheap wine we used to drink back in the day.
What is this? This was the night I had planned 17 years ago for my first love.
Then my screw-up made us have to hit pause on something that was amazing.
But tonight I want us to hit play.
So you're not really losing anything by leaving here, Angela.
You're walking into a plan that we've always had.
I want us to have a second chance.
But not just us Let's give Nikki a family.
Nate, w-what? [LAUGHS.]
What? [GATE LATCH CLICKS.]
[SIGHS.]
Brother, do you mind? Actually, I do.
But, Angela, I have some news that might help clear your mother's name.
Do your thing.
Um I didn't answer him.
He's just, you know, offering a life that Nikki would love and thrive in, and I'm sorry.
I shouldn't even be talking to you like that.
I'm just so used to confiding in you.
You've been there for me.
You taught me to float, and that's the only reason I've been able to make it through all this.
Angela, I want you to be happy Whatever that looks like for you.
But part of that is finding the truth about Teddy and your mother.
Look, you you were right.
My pops purchased that gun for Teddy.
I used my contacts at the police department, and I was able to get Louis' autopsy report.
Now, the bullet that killed Louis matches Teddy's gun.
So Teddy may have actually killed his own brother? Maybe Mama Eve was a a witness.
Maybe that's why he was trying to shut her up.
Well, it says here, Louis' estimated time of death was between 10:00 and 11:30, when the Illumination Ball would have been in full swing.
Now, all we need to do is find out if Teddy ever was missing from the Ball.
You know what? I got a pile of Of Graceties photos from Leah.
I can put together a visual timeline, you know? - I can - We're close to finding answers.
Now, you haven't, but if you asked me if you should stand down and run away with him or stay here and fight for answers my opinion is biased, but I vote for you to stay.
[GATE LATCH CLICKS.]
Roll it, roll it, roll it up one time Why your lovin' always gets me high? [SIGHS.]
I'm so confused Why do you do this to me every time? I really hate that Nikki got hurt.
- Was she okay? - Exposing feelings that I try to hide I mean, she's upset.
And I get it.
She was like collateral damage when we were getting our stuff together.
[SIGHS.]
I don't know.
I hate it.
Yeah.
Me, too.
But I'm also happy we figured our stuff out.
Out of respect for her, I'm gonna wait till she's gone, but when she is, I'm gonna tell the world that we're together.
Let's take off these handcuffs [CHUCKLES.]
You know I'd like that.
Look what you do Ooh.
I like this, too.
I got it to remember the summer.
I may have gotten you one to match.
What? [CHUCKLES.]
Oh.
[CHUCKLES.]
Okay.
Someone's been boosting stuff from my room, and I know exactly who it is.
[DOOR OPENS.]
You know I had it in my head that you two were hooking up behind my back.
But I said, "No.
Quincy wouldn't disrespect me.
" Then I have to hear the truth from Lauren? You, young lady, are leaving this house A.
S.
A.
P.
Ms.
Jackie, you can't do that.
- I love Sloane.
- [SCOFFS.]
Grandma, please.
Lauren also told me that several items have gone missing from her room.
Your time in this house is done.
I am sick of your sister projecting on me when she's the thief up in here.
She stole Taylor from Nikki.
They've been hooking up behind your cousin's back for weeks now.
Mm.
Angela, I love this idea of blowing up the pictures - of the past Illumination Balls.
- Right? I mean, because this needs to be spectacular.
- Yep, for Rose.
- [CHUCKLES.]
Why don't we pull all the photos of Teddy and Rose? It could be like a tribute to your moms.
Oh, wow, you know what? Actually, there's a picture of them in front - of the Boston House.
- You know what? I'll take the coffee in my office.
Angela, despite the fact that I've asked you to leave, I loved knowing you and Nikki, and I thought I should come and say goodbye And say I'm sorry about what happened between me and your mother.
Okay, now, I know I know you don't understand - He's just trying to protect his family.
- Listen to me.
- He killed his brother Louis.
- What? No, my uncle was shot by a drug dealer.
That was Teddy's story.
The case was never solved.
My father loved my Uncle Louis.
He's naming the stadium after him, for God's sakes.
[SCOFFS.]
This is why y'all need a Grand Illumination Ball 'cause you don't see anything.
I have the gun.
Teddy was protecting himself, not Rose.
He hid behind your mother's mental break to prevent anyone from poking into the past.
I have been looking for evidence that he left the Ball that night.
Now, whatever he did had to do with Louis and Mama Eve.
Okay, just stop talking.
If you're right I lose both of my parents in a week.
I've already lost both of mine.
And we are never gonna get past this.
You will always choose Teddy, and I will always choose my mother.
As long as that's the case, then I don't see how we can be sisters.
And I brought it all to Leah.
She won't see it.
She can't? She don't want to? I don't know.
She's Her whole existence is wrapped up in being Teddy Franklin's daughter his heir.
Well, she doesn't know herself like you do.
- [SCOFFS.]
- That's one of the things I love about you.
You know, I-I bought this beach a couple of years ago because I wanted to build a house on it, but I couldn't get the plans right.
There was always something missing.
Angela, I can't be in the same room with you without wanting to hold you.
[CHUCKLES.]
When you look at me, my chest gets tight and I can't breathe.
[CHUCKLES.]
Look, I know that you just got Nate back in your life, and that's a good thing.
You You have a history and a daughter, and I don't wanna get in between that, but Nate is your past.
I'm your present and your future.
- [LAUGHS.]
What? - Move your intuition, girl, you love Angela, I now know what was missing from those plans.
Ohhhhhhh A cabinet for rosewater and honey, a pool for floating, a room for Nikki, but most importantly Real men don't come from right around the corner you.
Now, you already have an Eve's Crown, but how about an Angela's Crown? - [GASPS.]
- A home right here on this beach.
Please, allow me to build that for you.
I j [SIGHS, INHALES DEEPLY.]
I just need a moment to think.
I know.
I'm throwing a lot at you right now, so Real men don't come from right around the corner I will see you at the Ball.
You've got decisions - Alright - I want it all Gimme, gimme all you got - Baby, I want it all - Remember our first party this summer? We had to squeeze in on Josephine's invite.
And now we are walking in the front door.
Look how far you've come, baby.
[LAUGHTER.]
Mm.
[DOOR CLOSES.]
- Hey, Nikki, I-I - Can I go first? Um, I said some messed-up things, and I'm sorry.
I didn't wanna lose you, I-I still don't, but someone told me that love doesn't just disappear.
It's powerful, so it just changes form.
So, maybe we can just be friends.
QUINCY: You had no right to tell Jackie anything.
LAUREN: Oh, my gosh.
I feel like you're looking for an apology, but I'm not sorry.
Sloane is a gold-digger, and you're a mark.
Are you serious?! Do you hear yourself right now?! Hey, hey! Lower your voices.
Sloane doesn't belong here.
She's a parasite and a liar.
You would know about being a liar! You've been hooking up with Taylor behind Nikki's back for, what, weeks now? Nikki, I didn't mean for you to hear that.
You could've told me.
LAUREN: I asked her to lie to you.
Nikki, I was really just trying to protect you.
Lies don't help, Lauren.
Can't you see that? No, 'cause the The great Franklin-Duponts, you just can't help yourselves, can you? You're all so cruel.
You just have cruelty running in your blood, and I wish I didn't have any of it running in my veins.
Maybe she's right.
Maybe it's in our blood.
Now they're lying to each other? I mean, - why does this keep happening? - Okay, Leah, I need you to listen to me and finally hear me, okay? This is your father's influence.
Despite what we teach, our kids have learned to play chess and deal in the gray.
He drills it into them like he's drilled it into you.
This might cost a lot, but you're right.
This dysfunction has to stop.
The only way to beat my father is to take away the thing he values most His legacy.
I just hope it's not too late to kiss our whole family up to God.
Hello.
I would like to welcome everyone to the event that ends our summer Our Grand Illumination Ball.
[APPLAUSE.]
My mother loved the Grand Illumination Ball for all that it represented.
As the longtime Gracetie chapter president, Rose was the light that guided this group of women on their path.
So in honor of Rose, the group would like to present a gift from the night that she was first inducted into the Graceties in 1984, to her husband Teddy Franklin.
[CHUCKLES.]
[APPLAUSE.]
Well You can't hide from the truth.
Not anymore, Daddy.
I'm sorry.
This is very emotional.
If you would just give us a minute.
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
No, no.
Get that away from me.
- [BOX THUDS.]
- Daddy, I need answers, so you're gonna tell me exactly what happened the night of the Grand Illumination Ball in 1984.
ANGELA: You know what? Let me help you out.
On that night, Teddy and Rose showed up at the house of Darius Bates.
Used to cover up his dirty work.
Teddy asked him to hide a gun that night That gun right there.
According to Darius, Rose was mumbling something about my mother.
- I - TYRIQUE: And don't lie, Teddy.
That gun carries the same type of bullet that killed your brother Louis.
RAYMOND: And at the time of his death The night of the Ball Your brother Louis was very unhappy with your business dealings in Edgartown.
LAUREN: Granddaddy, what are they saying? Granddaddy? I loved Eve very deeply.
We were gonna meet at the dock that night and run away together.
But before she could get there, Louis showed up, and we argued about my new business dealings.
And while we were at each other's throats, I hadn't noticed that Rose followed me.
She was manic.
Angry.
She wanted to shoot me, and she pulled the trigger, and Louis [VOICE BREAKING.]
jumped in front His life for mine.
Rose was never the same, and neither was I.
Ever since, I have felt nothing but guilt and shame.
[SOBBING.]
I am so sorry.
Angela, I was not there for your mother.
I did what I could, but I didn't set her up.
My biggest mistake in life [EXHALES SHARPLY.]
was that I loved the right woman at the wrong time.
I chose Eve, and Rose paid the price for my choice.
So I stayed to help Rose and you And I let go of my life with Eve.
Who set up my mother? I don't know how those drugs got into her possession.
I It's always been a mystery to me.
LEAH: Why were you and Louis fighting? Because I know you signed a big real estate deal that summer in Edgartown that put "The Teddy Franklin" on the map.
That deal was dirty, wasn't it? Were you undervaluing the properties of poor Black folks like you are now? Daddy, is that what he confronted you about? - Leah - All summer, you've gone through great lengths to secure your legacy by setting me up for the fall.
That ends tonight.
Daddy, your behavior then and now is abysmal.
And I am who I am, but your arrogance is setting a bad example for the kids.
I mean, I see how it affects them.
So I want you out of this house and Franklin Holdings tonight.
You know, in the old days, the dancing began at 8:30 sharp.
Back then, we cared about punctuality.
But under Leah's direction, we are firmly on CP Time.
You know, I doubt that we will even get through the inductee ceremony in time for the "Talented Tenth" photo at 10:00 P.
M.
sharp.
It's [SCOFFS.]
always been a time-honored tradition for the Graceties You know, Mama Eve always taught me that everyone has the potential to succeed if only given the opportunity.
I mean, this "Talented Tenth" business is kind of outdated, and it's divisive.
You know whose idea it was to blow up all these old pictures? Mine.
[SIGHS.]
And do you know what I learned while doing it? You missed the "Talented Tenth" photo in 1984.
What happened that night, Olivia? Uh, Ruby, would you mind? Were you just not talented enough? Or were you busy doing something else Like putting crack in my mother's bag before she drove off to meet Teddy? She was arrested at 10:15 driving down to the docks.
Teddy didn't set her up.
I was looking at the wrong person the whole time.
You know what, Angela? Since you're leaving town and all - why don't we get this settled? - Please.
Yes.
I planted the drugs.
Your mother was a conniving, gold-digging, social-climbing home wrecker who crushed Crushed my best friend and destroyed my one chance at business.
- Satisfied? - You have no idea.
'Cause I finally have justice for my mother.
Justice? You have no proof.
Actually, I have every word.
[SCREEN SHATTERS.]
- Oops.
- [LAUGHS.]
It's in the cloud, bitch.
You best start thinking about what you're gonna do to help me finish what my mother started.
I remember me, staring at myself LEAH: Welcome to the 2021 induction of the Alpha Chapter of the Graceties.
Ladies, please approach.
I remember you, you who I used to be You still look the same, but you don't hurt like me Look at my reflection, somewhere my affection Disappeared, isn't here, nothing left to say Memories they fading, but I'm the one who makes them So I keep the love close enough to say What if this life Like I said at the beginning of the summer, many are called but few are chosen.
We just can't stop living, scared of what we'll see And you've all been chosen to light the path of our community through service.
As the President of the Graceties, Oak Bluffs Alpha Chapter, I am proud and would like to welcome you into our sacred sisterhood and conclude this year's class.
[APPLAUSE.]
I remember me It don't matter where I go Welcome to the sisterhood, sis.
Now you know I remember me I remember me PIGGY: She did it, Eve.
She fought tooth and nail for what was right.
Start to cry, do or die I remember me I remember me QUINCY: I don't care what Ms.
Jackie says.
This place and this family can be hard, and you're the best thing that's happened to me all summer.
So we're gonna fight Ms.
Jackie to make her let you stay.
We may not have to fight too hard, Q.
I'm pregnant.
How did you get Olivia to change her mind? [CHUCKLES.]
Turns out she was the one who set up my mother.
Mm-hmm.
I got my answers.
And I want to say I'm sorry if clearing my mother's name cost who your mother was to you.
I'm not sorry.
Now that I know the truth, I finally understand what she must have been going through all those years.
I mean, my mother's gone, but I've never felt so close to her.
Mm-hmm.
Olivia didn't get off so easy.
Oh, she didn't.
[CHUCKLES.]
Eve's Crown finally has distribution At least, the funds for it - thanks to a new backer.
- What? Silent, with no power.
[LAUGHS.]
Wow.
Well, you know, Olivia's always wanted to be a businesswoman.
Oh, well, lucky for her, I am not in the business of tearing other women down.
Actually, I'm in the business of building up our sisters.
Because that is what being a Gracetie means to me.
Yeah, I actually said that to you.
I know you said it, bitch.
That's why I said it to you! [BOTH LAUGH.]
So, does all this mean that you're staying in Oak Bluffs? Nate proposed, wants me to leave with him tonight.
Whoa.
And Tyrique proposed, too.
Well, damn.
[LAUGHS.]
Well, where are these rings? - W-What did you say? - I I have to talk to both of them in person And let them know what's on my heart.
I'm gonna have to walk away from one of them.
I know you feel as low as a snake's belly right now and you deserve it.
Patricia, have you come to throw salt on the wound? Actually, I came to say thank you, for loving my sister even if it was flawed.
And your love for her perhaps made you want to help me.
Even if it was twisted, making me think that I killed Darius.
But it scared me straight.
Got me clean.
Made me stay clean.
So, what can I say? You saved my life, Teddy Franklin.
[LAUGHS.]
Oh, Lord, looky, looky.
Those words didn't make me choke.
See, people can change.
You need to change, Teddy Slick.
Well, Leah wants me out of the house.
I think that's a pretty sizable change.
Well, if I know you like I think I do, you ain't gonna just slither away.
Come on, now.
Man up.
You got nine lives, Teddy.
Well here's to nine more.
VALET: Mr.
Franklin? Your car is ready.
Mm.
[DOOR CLOSES.]
Oh, hey, Nik.
We're gonna miss the last ferry.
- Where's your mom? - I don't know.
She said she went to tell Tyrique something.
[SIGHS.]
[EXHALES SLOWLY.]
Thanks for letting me down in person.
What are you talking about? I'm saying yes, silly.
You are? Then why are you crying? It's just a lot.
But I'm happy.
And I'm excited.
And I'm yours.
[CHUCKLES.]
I am I've been in this office so many times Mm-hmm but it just feels different.
- Different? - Mm-hmm.
Okay, well, I have a few different things I'd like to try on this desk.
Ooh, well, I've got a position I'm pretty sure you're gonna love.
As the new Chairman of Franklin Holdings and Darmon, effectively immediately.
- Nah.
- [LAUGHS.]
But all this was supposed to be yours.
I mean, I was always doing it for Daddy.
I never chose it for myself.
[SIGHS.]
I don't know.
You know, I just want to help grow something.
So, I'm going into business with Angela at Eve's Crown.
I think it's our turn to build a different kind of family business from the ground up while you focus on developing a new basketball team that will play at the Dupont Stadium.
- The Dupont Stadium.
- Mm-hmm.
- I like the sound of that.
- [BOTH LAUGH.]
This calls for a toast.
I will be back with the champagne and a real Dupont Dog.
[CHUCKLES.]
[SIGHS.]
MAN: Teddy Franklin? [GASPING.]
[GASPING.]
