Black Sheep Squadron (1976) s01e22 Episode Script
W*A*S*P*S
Just wait till tonight, Major.
Nobody'll be disappointed.
Why doesn't somebody go up there and talk to them? What do you say to women pilots? I got the perfect line! Nice set of wings you got there.
We're gonna be escorting four planes a day, five days a week.
And the ferry pilots are gonna lay down here in between trips.
Who're the ferry pilots? Left! Left! Hangnail One, we got trouble.
I see them, Black Sheep Six.
I need help.
Shirley, don't panic.
Here I come.
What's your price? - You haven't got 10 cases of Scotch.
We got $200.
- All right we'll take it.
Tonight, Gutterman.
Baa Baa Black Sheep S01E22 - WASPS S01E22 - WASPS A new age in military aviation dawns as women take to the skies, in an attempt to help the war effort in Europe and the Pacific.
The newly formed Women 's Airforce Service Pilots, known as WASPs, has been commissioned by the War Department to help transport bombers to the front areas.
These courageous and patriotic women pilots endure torturous training and high risks before they gain their coveted wings.
The first fully constituted unit under the command of Major Deborah Watkins heads towards the Solomons for transport duty.
Hey, Hutch! - What? Courier plane blew an engine over Rendova, I gave them emergency clearance to land.
She's belching smoke out her starboard engine.
We got a limper coming in, you guys! Let's move! Gooney Bird.
Hey, take a look at that.
That is not your regular everyday transport plane.
It sure ain't.
I don't believe it.
What's the problem? - I think I lost a jug, but I didn't wanna shutdown until I hit the runway.
I'll take a look at it.
One of you guys, grab me a ladder.
What's going on? Do you see what I see? - What? Wings.
- Wings? VMF 214? - Yeah.
What seems to be your problem, Major? We were losing power on our starboard side.
That engine should have been overhauled weeks ago.
It was lucky for us we were within VFR of Vella La Cava.
Yeah, yeah.
Darn lucky.
- Do you have any spare parts aboard, Major? No such luck.
Hey, hey, hey! What do we have here? - Not bad.
Not at all bad.
Why doesn't somebody go up there and talk to them? What do you say to women pilots, "How's your vertical stabilizer"? Girls are girls, Bobby.
All you do is just walk up and talk to them.
Oh, they're F4U-1 D's.
You can tell by the cannon mounts and the cowlings.
How was your flight? - Oh, Bragg.
Boy, they're big.
- I bet they're fast, too.
Hey, that's a 2,000 horsepower Pratt & Whitney, 400 miles per hour, tops.
They can run circles around the A6M2.
I'd love to fly one of those.
Well, the day we get to fly a fighter plane What are they doing here? They must be on some kind of war bonds drive, don't you think? I could talk to nurses and just go, "My back is killing me," but pilots, I don't know.
I got it.
I got the perfect line! - What? Follow me, boys.
Oh, indeed.
Heads up, girls.
Terrific set of wings you got there.
Get out of there, T.
J.
That line wouldn't catch a trout.
Ladies, may I please introduce you to the VMF 214? Lieutenant Lawrence Casey.
Captain James Gutterman.
Lieutenant T.
Joseph Wiley.
Lieutenant Robert Boyle.
Lieutenant Donald French.
Lieutenant Jerome Bragg.
I am Lieutenant Robert Anderson.
It's a pleasure.
How are you? What's the damage, Sergeant? It doesn't look too bad, Major.
We have three days' leave on Espritos Marcos before our tour begins.
My girls are really looking forward to it.
I hope we can make it tonight.
- Your tour? We'll be taking over the regular transport routes between the forward bases and the rear area.
Does that surprise you? - No, it's just the first I've heard of it.
We took our training in Stearmans and Vultees, mostly, and then we went to the Boeing plant in Seattle, Washington, and worked in the flight simulators.
We're qualified in 17s, 24s and 25s.
Of course they never did mind when I drove the tractor so they could go fishing.
I'll bet you're from lowa.
- Nope.
Nebraska? - No.
South Dakota.
- Right.
And your father grows corn, soya beans, alfalfa - And boys.
Four brothers? - Five.
They're crazy, they're crazy.
Name is Don French.
Angie.
- Hi, Angie.
Were you ever stationed at Avenger Field, Sweetwater, Texas? No, but I was under hack at Fort Langley for three weeks once.
Why? Misunderstanding.
You don't really wanna hear about it.
You ever seen a Corsair close up before? - No.
Lieutenant, there's a call for you at the radio shack.
Thank you.
Hutch, listen.
- Yeah.
Hutch, will you listen? - I'm listening.
What? We've got a great idea.
We want you to go in, and get the wiring out of the cockpit.
Take some stuff out and then we can keep all the girls here.
There's no way it'll miss.
Right.
Hey, Hutch.
How long is this Gooney Bird gonna be on my runway? Well, it doesn't look too good, Sarge.
I mean, there's oil all over the place here and then the carb's shot and then the rocker cover's cracked and then there's that blower of Pappy's I've been trying to get to.
And then what about Anderson's drop in the fuel pressure? I mean, that's a problem.
Looks like them WASPs gonna spend the night here.
Don't it? WASPs? Women's Airforce Service Pilots.
I thought you went to college, sonny.
WASP? Push it off to the side.
Thank you, Hutch.
Lot of good it does me.
There are all these officers.
Officers! My mechanics work in 24-hour shifts as it is and we don't have the parts.
Yeah, I'm afraid you're stuck.
I'll radio Espritos, maybe they can send another plane.
That's all right, Major.
You just stay here with us.
- Yeah.
There's nothing happening on Espritos anyways, except a couple of movies.
We'll show you a good time.
Greg? Listen.
We'd love to have you stay, by all means.
How long do you suppose it will take before it's fixed? Couple of days, probably.
I heard Hutch talking.
Well, I'll go break the news to the girls.
They'll be disappointed.
Just wait till tonight, Major.
Nobody will be disappointed.
What was that all about? Women's Airforce Service Pilots have just been awarded three days on Vella La Cava, courtesy the Black Sheep.
Well, they could've gotten malaria.
- They may yet.
You got any idea what they got in that boxcar out there? Silk stockings and hairnets.
- And tooth paste.
And soap chips.
They got soap chips? - And they also got toilet paper.
No, Gutterman, you're kidding.
- They got toilet paper? - Yes, they do.
Tonight, Gutterman.
Greg? It's Deborah Watkins.
Greg? I'm sorry, Meatball.
Come on in.
We're leaving these extra carburetors with you just to make sure nothing happens to them.
Oh, and, Greg, thanks for everything.
We've got to go.
Bye.
- Go? Bye.
You're such a sweetheart.
Somebody stole the carbs out of every last one of those birds last night! Oh, you think it's funny? You got a mission to fly in one hour! You know how long it takes to put those What's that damn thing doing flying? You'll find them in my tent, Sarge.
I'll find what in your tent? - The carbs, all but one.
I'm gonna kill you for this, Boyington, sir.
- Sarge.
It wasn't my fault.
Don't worry about it.
I'll take care of it.
So you cannibalized your own birds.
Hoping to make it, huh? Then the poor damsel's in distress and the gallant fighter pilot to the rescue? Look, Greg, you don't understand.
They had to be there.
Had to be where, Casey? On the beach.
- On the beach.
On the beach.
Where were you, T.
J.
? - Oh, I was up on the hill.
And, French, you were taking a moonlight stroll through the jungle? Yeah.
Yeah.
Bragg? Boyle? You mean you all fell for the same thing? Now, wait a minute.
- Wait a minute for what? I have a crate of spare parts in my tent that the girls were kind enough to leave us.
We've been had.
- Where are they? They're gone.
Every one of you men are gonna put your own carbs back in your plane, and you're gonna do it by 0700.
That is one-half hour from now.
You tell Micklin.
Now that's an order.
Hey, wait a minute.
I have one question.
Did any of you make it? - I did.
Really, Boyle? That's what I thought.
Let's get out of here.
Come on, you guys.
After our first meeting with the Women's Airforce Service Pilots, the score stood WASP 1, Black Sheep 0.
All we'd gotten out of the deal was some soap chips and a half a carton of toilet paper Gutterman and I had stolen from the C-47.
On the other hand, we were doing pretty well in the sky.
The guys must have been taking out their wounded pride on the Japanese.
Whatever the reason, we were playing havoc with the Zeros and went on to strafe the airfields on Bougainville.
A couple of days went by and the guys seemed to have forgotten about the WASPs.
I hadn 't.
The toilet paper we'd stolen was almost gone.
And, as it turned out, they hadn 't either.
Watch out! Hey, transport's in.
Maybe we got some mail.
Well, they said they were gonna take over the transport routes.
Maybe they did.
Hi, fellas.
Hi, fellas.
Hi, T.
J.
Well, if that's the way they're going to act Hey, Shirl, men are like that, honey.
It's called the male ego, which is easily knocked down.
Yeah, you're not kidding.
- Hi, girls.
Sorry, Lieutenants.
How's she running? - Just fine.
Good.
- Got something for you.
Oh, yeah? Oh, yeah.
Major.
- Morning, ladies.
Hi, Pappy.
- What's this? Carburetors.
Brand spanking new carburetors.
Hey! Where'd they come from? They're from us, Major.
It's our way of saying thank you.
I have never kissed a pilot before, but I'm about to make an exception.
We're behind schedule, Major.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Major.
- Yes.
Would you give T.
J.
a message for me? Sure.
Tell him Never mind.
Hutch, how do you tell a guy, "Never mind"? You know what it is, Shirley? I think we threatened them.
We could be flying those Corsairs.
Our reflexes are faster than theirs and we make better decisions under pressure.
I think we make them nervous.
Hey, what happened to my little button nose? Did you forget our motto? You mean, "All for one and one for all and none for them"? That's it.
Let's fly.
There hasn't been a new carburetor anywhere around this island for six months, how did they get them? I don't know, Pappy, maybe the same way they got their engine fixed? Huh.
Not so bad, huh, Micklin? With new carburetors all around, the Zeros were no match for us.
Our kill record was getting pretty impressive, except for T.
J.
I had a feeling he had more on his mind than Japanese pilots.
Like maybe one particular lady pilot.
Whatever it was, Gutterman was having to cover for him.
You pick up, Wiley.
I'm bringing one up in front of you! Where are you, Jim? Well, you're a half a mile behind me, you blockhead! I'm sorry! I'll get up to you.
Okay, Jim.
I'm right behind you now.
For God's sake! Now the Zeke's behind you! Will you bring him up and over me? Thanks, Jim.
Don't thank me, T.
J.
Will you just wake up and get it in gear? I said thanks, I said I'm sorry, what else do you want from me? You guys mind having this lovers' quarrel on the ground? All in all, we'd never been flying better.
We were on a hot streak.
So, naturally, we got new orders from the rear area, taking us out of the action.
You gotta hear.
- Ante up.
- Come on.
Come on.
I' m in.
Hey, meatheads, we have a new assignment.
Flying bomber escort out of Guadalcanal.
Greg, there aren't any bombers on Guadalcanal.
I know that, Casey, but there will be fresh off the assembly line.
They're coming in the day after tomorrow.
We're to escort them up the Slot to their tactical bases.
Fresh off the assembly line, you mean unarmed? - Are you gonna talk or play? We gonna be ferrying these birds across friendly waters? That's right.
- Well, then we're not gonna see any action, are we? I hope not.
You hope not? We got the best kill record of any squadron in this theater! Why're they pulling us out now for? Jim, fighter planes are not going to win this war, bombers are and they have to get to their base in one piece.
Now if Tojo puts them in the drink, they won't be much help, will they.
Now you guys want the good news? Yeah, sure.
- Yeah, please.
We're gonna have some visitors.
We're gonna be escorting four planes a day, five days a week.
And the ferry pilots are gonna lay down here in between trips.
Who're the ferry pilots? - Take a guess.
Come on! - Those girls are gonna be stationed here? Knock.
Come on.
Gee, oh, come on.
Greg.
- They ain't here, are they? Jumping Jacks! - And one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
Twists.
Ready! One and two and three and four and five and six and seven and eight and nine and ten.
Touché turtle.
Ready! Begin! One and a half and a touché turtle.
Two and a half and a touché turtle.
Three and a half and a touché turtle.
Four and a half and a touché turtle.
Five and a half and a touché turtle.
You guys.
I think I'm gonna go change clothes.
- Me, too.
Running in place.
Ready! And One, two, three, four.
One, two.
One, two.
One, two.
One, two.
One, two.
All right, girls.
Ready for the mile! Fall in.
Quick march! One, two.
One, two.
One, two.
Left! Left! Left! Left! Left! Left! Left! Left! Morning? - Good morning! Nice day, ain't it? Yeah.
- Beautiful day.
Would you put this up, too? For me? - Sure.
Oh, you're a sweetheart.
I've got to catch up.
Ain't that darling? Left! Left! Left! Left! What now? How much longer? One more lap.
How do we feel? - We feel great.
I can't hear you.
- We feel great! Put that over here, okay.
Right here.
Right up there, the corner.
Now just That's it.
Right there.
Do you want some coffee? - Yeah.
Sure.
How do you like it? - Any way at all.
Okay.
- Just fine.
Yes! Excuse me.
Excuse me! Do you mind? - No, of course I don't mind.
Good morning.
- It was.
Don't eat that.
- Why? It's hard as a rock.
We throw them at the coconuts after breakfast.
Oh, it's true.
First one to knock down a coconut wins the pool.
Good morning, Lieutenant.
You're not leaving.
You haven't touched a bite.
You'll never grow up big and strong that way.
Never.
Hi.
Hi.
- What happened to you? Let's not go into it.
- Oh.
Oh, jerk! Good morning, Major.
- Major.
I don't recommend the biscuits.
We should have a talk.
- Yeah? I have a policy about fraternization.
Greg, we fought hard for these wings.
You wouldn't believe how many people in Washington were completely opposed to the idea.
It went all the way to Eleanor Roosevelt, and even then, the War Department wanted to keep us in the States.
It's a miracle we're even here at all.
I have the feeling my pilots would agree.
But what if there was an incident? What if just one of my girls got into trouble, you know what I mean.
The whole program could be scrapped.
My pilots aren't Cub Scouts, Deborah.
I think that problem can be avoided.
There's something else, emotional involvements.
How do we avoid that? Why would we want to? Greg, my girls have a big job to do.
Now, they're not used to this kind of a situation.
I don't want their minds on anything but their jobs.
I'll need your cooperation, Greg.
Deborah, I don't see what you're asking.
I mean you can't put emotional blinders on people, and if I could, I wouldn't.
Have you thought about the fact that maybe some of these kids won't all survive this war? People survive a war through teamwork, sometimes through sacrifice.
People in love think about themselves and their lovers, not about the team.
And when the team falls apart, that's when people die.
If I could look into the future and see which one of these kids would or wouldn't make it, I might agree with you.
But we can't see into the future, we can learn from the past.
I'm going to have to insist on this, Greg.
I want our units kept apart from each other.
But I can't do it without your cooperation.
That's right, you can't.
- Do I have it? I'll think about it.
That's not good enough.
- That's the most you'll get, Major.
I want all my officers in front of my tent for a briefing in five minutes.
That's an order.
- Hey, come on.
Major, what did they do? Oh, no.
- How do you like that? Oh, gee.
- Well, - we'll see you guys later.
Greg, what'd you do? - Yeah, we were getting along just fine.
Shut up.
I'm thinking.
It was hard to argue with Deborah's point, although I didn't agree with it.
She told her girls to keep to themselves, and they followed her orders.
I told the Black Sheep to stay frosty and wait it out.
None of us really understood what was going on, but we had missions to fly.
Okay, we' re taking off at 0900.
That' ll give them time to get to Guadalcanal, get their birds and make the rendezvous at Espritos.
Got it? 0900.
The first mission went off like clockwork.
The weather was perfect.
It was a piece of cake.
Hangnail Two to Black Sheep One.
This is Black Sheep One.
We have VFR to Munda airstrip and landing clearance.
- We're breaking off.
See you at home in a couple of hours.
Set 'em down easy, girls.
As we headed back for Vella la Cava, the girls set their birds down on Munda.
But by 5:00 they'd be back on our base.
We got some trouble, Pappy.
Gutterman and Casey, they set up that deal with the Army quartermaster? Do you remember that? Yeah.
- Yeah.
I remember it.
Sure.
For the soap chips, the socks, the potatoes and the coffee beans? And the engine oil.
I wish you wouldn't have thrown it all together like that, Larry.
Why not? Because the Army just called in, they canceled the whole deal.
They canceled? - Yeah.
We just gave them twenty cases of beer, a dozen bottles of Scotch and they canceled it? Yup.
They got a better offer.
They got not only what we were gonna give them, but they got toilet paper and silk stockings.
And you know how nurses go nuts about silk stockings.
But that isn't the point, the point is we really need the oil! We need the soap.
- We need the oil, otherwise we're not flying.
You don't suppose you could figure who's got our stuff? What would you say? - Silk stockings.
Silk stockings and toilet paper.
What do you want me to tell you, Major? Business is business.
And that's supposed to mean that you can slide in the back door, cut our prices and wave your pretty fannies around just to seal the bargain and leave us to fly your cover with engines that could seize up on us? I don't see what the problem is.
You can deal with us.
What's your price? Twenty-five cases of beer, 20 quarts of Scotch.
Of course, if you just want the oil, it would be less.
If we want the oil? You know damned well we need that oil.
That's not the point.
If we set up a deal you guys can beat it fair, no gripe, we'll pay the price.
Then what's the problem, Major? - I don't like the way you women operate.
You make promises you have no intention of keeping.
Now that's taking unfair advantage.
Then you turn around and you stick it to us.
I asked for your cooperation on something, Major, and you wouldn't give it to me! Now if you don't like the way we do business, that's too bad.
You just better get used to it.
I'm used to it, lady.
- One other thing.
One of my officers isn't in her tent and can't be found! I know who she's with.
Now I want it stopped, and I want it stopped now, Major.
I don't know what you're talking about.
Lieutenant T.
J.
Wiley.
Do you know where he is? Anderson! Yeah.
You find T.
J.
Wiley and tell him I wanna see him, I wanna see him now.
Yes, sir.
Nothing.
Well No, I like Texas.
I like Texas a lot.
It's a It's big! It's flat.
Those are my favorite kind of places.
You hated it.
You wanna know the truth? I hated it.
But I like Texans.
They're really nice people.
I figure they have to be, to live in a place like that.
That didn't sound right, did it? Have you ever been to a big city? Oh, you'd love Philadelphia.
Oh, you'd like Philadelphians, they're the finest kind of people in the world.
I happen to be a Philadelphian.
- Really? Have you ever kissed anybody from Philadelphia? No.
Come on, now.
- Shh! Be quiet.
Hurry up.
Wait.
I want you to come to my tent.
Let's have some champagne.
How many lieutenants do you know who have any champagne? - I don't know anyone.
Who's there? Call me Saint Valentine, if you like.
What are you doing here? - Don't ask me any questions.
Just do what I tell you to do.
Shirley, you're going to the hospital.
- Why? Because you got sick and they're gonna keep you overnight and I will explain everything to Major Watkins in the morning.
T.
J.
you're You just hit the sack and remember one thing, you did not see each other tonight.
Got it? The Major! She found out.
Come on.
I'll talk to you tomorrow.
I promise.
- All right.
Bye.
I never thought for a minute Major Watkins would believe Shirley spent the night in the hospital, but it gave her a way to save face in the situation, and, naturally, she took it.
You' re late.
Get in.
The second mission went off as easily as the first.
The B-25s were delivered to Rendova.
The problems started when we got back on the ground.
Hey, Greg, what' re you doing? You gave away our drinking Scotch! - I had to, Jim.
Greg, we got drinking Scotch and we got trading Scotch.
Now the rules are suppose to be that you don't - I made the rule! And I broke the rule! Now, if you don't like it, take it up with Micklin.
Micklin? What's he got to do with this? I'll tell you what I got to do with it.
I'm personally responsible for those airplanes staying in the air, sonny boy.
Right.
- Well, they don't stay in the air without oil.
To keep all those little parts sliding off each other.
Right.
Well, those lady WASPs were the ones that stung you, sonny, they got the oil.
Now, if it took your booze to get it out of them, then you're just gonna have to go thirsty for a while, aren't you? Right.
- Right.
All right.
Greg, could you step over here for a minute please? Greg, now their camp is off-limits to us, right? - That's the idea.
Well, would you allow us a couple of seconds to talk something over here? Alone.
I can't hear a thing.
All right, girls, ready for the mile.
Right face! One, two.
Quick Oh, look.
I don't believe it.
Elsa, get something to cut that with.
Yes, ma'am.
Morning, ladies.
Captain, take this line down.
I'm afraid we can't do that, ma'am.
Major's orders.
Then I would like to see Major Boyington.
They were your orders, ma'am.
I suppose you think this is funny.
- Nope.
Elsa, cut that line.
- Yes, Major.
Excuse me, but I wouldn't do that if I were you, ma'am.
Why should I believe you? We warned them.
Did we not warn them? - We did warn them.
Yepper.
How could they? - Now watch out for my nightie.
Now, don't step on it.
Well, we warned you, sir.
- Yes, we did.
We did warn them.
- Didn't we warn them? - Yes, Yes.
Yes, we did warn them.
Didn't we warn you? - We warned you.
You were warned.
- You were warned.
They look very spiffy and clean this morning.
I don't think they hear us.
We'll get even with you for that! All right, you want to have a volleyball game this afternoon? - Volleyball? Yeah, that sounds fair to me.
- Yeah.
How about it, girls? - Yeah.
Yeah.
You're on! - All right.
Have a nice trip.
You're on.
- Got any money? This was another easy mission.
Except you could almost feel the tension between the WASPs and the Black Sheep.
We had gotten down to very, very short transmissions.
Hangnail One to Black Sheep.
Terminate escort.
Roger.
And that was about it.
We headed back to Vella la Cava and two hours later they were back.
The next day it would start all over again.
Our honor is at stake, Major.
- Not to mention our laundry.
All right.
All right.
All right.
All right.
But just make sure you win.
Oh, we will.
- Yeah.
Okay, let's go.
- Let's get them.
Wait.
Wait.
We will win! Okay, come on, girls.
- Let's show these guys how to play.
Elsa, serves first.
- I'll take the net.
Let's go.
Set them up.
Set them up.
Do it right, Bragg.
I suppose you had something to do with this, Major? Nope.
You know, I'm seriously considering filing a report with the Marine Air Wing.
Well, it wouldn't be the first time.
My boys are always doing things like this.
Because you allow it.
But when you try to undermine my command Major.
What wrong with a little healthy competition? Where's your sense of humor? You know what this is called? What? - Teamwork.
Hey, Bob, stay on the net.
Four to one.
Our favor.
Come on, you guys.
Five to one.
Our favor.
Six to one.
Our favor.
Let's take a break.
Get over here, you guys.
We seem to be winning.
For the time being.
They're killing us.
- They're not killing us, we're losing.
They know how to play the game.
They're good, huh? They're just dropping on us every time.
We gotta stop them! If you guys would only let me play Boyle, you can't even see over the net.
At least they don't mistake me for the ball, Bragg! Wait a minute.
Wait a minute.
Maybe Boyle's right.
Bobby, go in for me for a while, all right? What are you talking about, Jim? You're one of our best players! I'm feeling kind of tired right now.
I'm gonna go back there in the truck and polish my gun for a while.
Polish your gun.
- Now, you all don't wanna lose, do you? It's kind of obvious that we're not gonna win.
What are you doing? Giving up? I ain't giving up.
Go ahead now.
Boyle? Let's play.
Come on, I'll be great, I promise.
Oh, let's go.
Thanks, Jimmy.
You won't be sorry.
- It's all right.
I'm in! Let's go.
Your serve now.
- Good girl.
All right, set up.
Seven to one.
Our favor.
All right.
Set up.
Here, Bragg! Come on.
Eight to one.
- Yeah, yeah.
Your favor.
We're gonna get you now.
Why did you do that? Went off by mistake, I'm sorry.
You did it on purpose, Gutterman.
You knew you were gonna lose! Don't get all bent out of shape.
Accident or not, it happened.
We can come out and play the game over tomorrow.
We don't have another ball.
But you can get one on your stopover tomorrow morning.
And we start with the same score? We start all over again.
Put a little something on the game.
- Like what? Say 10 cases of Scotch? How about that? You haven't got 10 cases of Scotch.
We got $200 in the kitty, we could throw on the bet.
Yeah 200 bucks.
Ten cases of Scotch against $200? - Sure.
Is it a bet? - All right, we'll take it.
Yeah, and we're gonna get two ballsjust in case there's another accident.
Right.
I believe they're gonna look just lovely on you, too, darling.
You wait till game time! What's wrong with you, Gutterman? Ten cases? - Ten cases you put on that thing.
Twenty degrees back at your port wing, Hangnail Six.
- We got you covered.
Roger, Black Sheep Six.
We're going to a heading of 017 for the Treasury Islands.
The volleyball game seemed to loosen things up between us, despite the fact that the Black Sheep cheated.
Even our radio conversations were friendlier.
As it turned out, it was a good thing, because as soon as our luck started to change on the ground, it changed in the air, too.
Greg, bandits! Bandits.
- Hangnail One, we got trouble.
I see them, Black Sheep Six.
Can you handle it? We'll lead them off.
Keep them away from you.
Stay on your heading.
Whatever happens.
Don 't get split up.
Two of us will stay with you at all times.
- Roger.
Bob, two coming in at three o'clock.
You stay with the bomber, Jerome.
I'll try to call their bluff! One bogey still coming three o'clock off our starboard wing! Roll to your left, I'll cut under you and pick him up! I'll try.
I need help up here.
Hangnail Two.
Are you all right? Elsa's wounded! I've lost the rudder and the left stabilizer! I can 't pull up! I've got a bogey on me! Somebody help! Jim can you handle this alone? I usually do handle it alone, T.
J.
Shirley, don't panic! Here I come.
You better hurry up, T.
J.
I got him.
Yeah, I got him.
Answer the rudder, damn it! T.
J.
! You all right? I'm in a wide turn, I'm going back the other way! Ease off the trim! If you have to, add more power to the port side.
I think I've got it.
I know you got it, baby! I wish you were here.
I am here! Look to the starboard! What our heading? Come on over to 121.
Roger.
All right, Hangnail Six.
I think you can regroup.
I think we got the last of them.
Pretty fancy flying for a girl.
Coming from you, Major, that's a compliment.
Coming from anyone that's a compliment.
Thanks, Greg.
Thanks.
Now, listen.
You' re sure you're all right? - How could I miss this, Major? All right.
Go sit down.
- Okay.
Okay, girls, let's go.
- Come on.
Let's go.
We've done it before, we can do it again.
Call it.
Heads.
- Tails.
We serve.
Let's see it.
Are you saying I'd cheat? Let's go, you guys! Stay sharp! All right, you serve.
You need the advantage.
We'll see.
Hey, we've got one player missing.
So do we.
Who cares? Let's play.
Now wait just a minute here.
Who is missing? Are you gonna call roll or are you gonna play? Shirley and T.
J.
Now where are they? Who cares? Let's play.
Who cares? Let's play.
