Alias s01e09 Episode Script

Mea Culpa

My name is Sydney Bristow.
Seven years ago, I was recruited by a secret branch of the CIA called SD-6.
I was sworn to secrecy, but I couldn't keep it from my fiancé, and when the head of SD-6 found out, he had him killed.
That's when I learned the truth.
SD-6 is not part of the CIA.
I'd been working for the very people I thought I was fighting against.
So I went to the only place that could help me take them down.
Now I'm a double agent for the CIA, where my handler is a man named Michael Vaughn.
Only one other person knows the truth about what I do.
Another double agent inside SD-6.
Someone I hardly know.
My father.
Someone's having me followed.
Should I be worried? If Sloane suspects a double agent, Dreyer is the one he'd turn to.
The first thing Dreyer will do is give each of us a functional imaging test.
It's very difficult to deceive.
Are you an agent of SD-6? Yes.
Are you a double agent? No.
I think we've found our mole.
What is that? It's a star chart.
A snapshot of the sky taken from one specific place on Earth at one specific moment in time.
The only spot on Earth with that exact view of the stars is the southern slope of Mt.
Aconcagua on the Chile-Argentina border.
Hey, I think we're almost at our waypoint.
I'm going in.
Dixon, I've found it.
It's Rambaldi's journal.
I found it.
- DIXON: Sydney, they found us.
- [Gunshot.]
[Breathing heavily.]
What did you do to Dixon? [Both grunting.]
[Screams.]
[Water dripping.]
[Gasps.]
[Panting.]
Dixon? Dixon, do you copy? Dixon? Dixon, please [Radio static.]
[Static continues.]
Dixon? Dixon! Oh, no, no.
Oh, no, no, no.
You weren't wearing your vest! Why? Dixon? Syd You're gonna be okay.
You're gonna be okay, Dixon.
Just hang in.
Take this with you.
It's a satcom phone.
It'll let you contact the CIA from anywhere.
And what happens when SD-6 sees I'm lugging around a CIA-issue phone? Just don't let them see it.
This thing's like a brick.
I can't take this.
Take it.
Worst-case scenario, you might need it.
Base Ops, Base Ops.
This is Freelancer.
How copy? Over.
[Static.]
B-Ops reads you.
Freelancer, go ahead.
Freelancer This is Code 6.
I repeat.
Code 6.
- Emergency medivac.
Over.
- Freelancer [Static.]
Copy.
Launching extraction team, Lancer.
Ping Navcom transponder in 3, 2, 1.
- Mark.
- [Beeping.]
Set.
[Mumbling.]
Just hang in there, buddy.
Just hang in there.
Just hang in there.
You just hang in there.
Come on.
Come on.
Come on.
Just hang in, buddy.
I got you.
Just hang in.
Are you okay? I'm fine.
So, what happened when the chopper came? [Helicopter blades whirring.]
The CIA helicopter airlifted us to a hospital in Buenos Aires.
The whole flight, I was thinking about Sloane.
What he might do when he found out.
Learning that I was betraying SD-6 this whole time.
Then I thought of a way out.
I called Sloane.
Told him that I'd dragged Dixon back to the Humvee.
That I drove him to the hospital myself.
I couldn't tell in his voice if he believed me, but I think he did.
They airlifted us back to Los Angeles.
When we got here, they took us to Angel of Mercy Hospital.
- Good.
- No.
It's an SD-6 hospital.
1 4 hours old.
We've got internal bleeding.
Agent Bristow, have you been briefed on your cover story? Is he gonna be okay? Mrs.
Dixon's waiting to talk with you.
Sloane wanted me to confirm that you've been briefed.
Yes, I know my cover story.
Is my partner gonna live? We don't know.
SYDNEY: Then I had to lie to Dixon's wife.
We were just standing there outside the bank's office in Rome.
This car pulled up.
I didn't even see it.
These men stepped out.
They had guns.
They wanted the bank's computer codes.
I had them in my briefcase.
Your husband grabbed me, pulled me to the ground.
I heard gunshots.
You should have seen him.
I didn't even know he'd been hit.
You just never think something like this He's strong.
He's gonna make it.
VAUGHN: He will make it? We don't know that.
Dixon was bleeding so much.
I was afraid if I took my hand off his wound, he'd lose too much blood.
So I used the satcom phone right in front of him.
You said he was barely conscious.
But he heard me.
He repeated my code name twice.
I'd suggest that you put operatives there just to be there when he regains consciousness.
But it's an SD-6 hospital.
He will make it.
You're in a very difficult position, Mr.
Dreyer.
You've been sent to SD-6 to find a mole.
The Alliance must be pressuring you to deliver.
I'm just doing my job.
We both are.
We're both doing our job.
I look at Sydney Bristow's test results.
I don't see a single spike.
She didn't falter once.
She's guilty.
She's the one.
I think that's a dangerous accusation being made by a desperate man.
I'm not desperate, Mr.
Sloane.
But I am curious why you feel the need to defend Miss Bristow.
I don't.
I don't need to defend her.
The results defend her.
The results are too perfect.
We all have our speciality.
This is mine.
With all due respect, uh, Mr.
Sloane, you're ignoring the facts.
Sidney Bristow has made numerous mistakes, not the least of which was her most recent mission.
Her partner was almost killed.
She could have retrieved the Rambaldi book, which is now in K-Directorate hands.
Sydney Bristow is the mole.
If you don't follow protocol on this, I'm going to The Alliance.
Dreyer Don't you do a damn thing.
I'll take care of Bristow.
Is Dixon gonna be okay? He's still in ICU.
They don't know.
So guys with guns jumped out of a car? It was over so quickly.
What for? For computer codes? Bank stuff? Can you not be a reporter for two minutes? I'm asking because I care.
I just think it's weird for something else like this to happen to you.
First, it's Danny.
Now it's this.
Leave her alone or I will kick your ass.
Thank God you're okay.
Nobody move! Down on the floor! Everyone, down! Down on the floor! Stay down! SLOANE: We've seen hundreds of bank robberies.
At first glance, there's nothing out of the ordinary, but these men have skills, materials.
The robbery was a distraction.
While those men were accessing the registers, these two men hacked into the bank's mainframe and rerouted funds.
They work for Ineni Hassan.
Why would Hassan be robbing a bank in the States? Because that bank controlled his assets recently frozen by the U.
S.
Government.
He used those men to transfer his money so he could access it.
[Door opens.]
We've put up with Hassan for years, mostly because he provided us with good intel.
Now he's closing shop, relocating.
We don't know where.
He's been missing for two weeks.
Hassan is too dangerous to trust as a free agent.
Now it's our job to bring him to justice.
Where did Hassan reroute the money? That's what we need to find out.
If we don't steal back his fortune, he could use that money to buy protection in the Middle East.
If he does that, he could partner with a hostile country and provide them with all the arms they will ever need.
Logan Gerace.
He's an accountant.
He has one client.
Ineni Hassan.
Gerace's known for his parties at his villa in Tuscany.
Entertains dignitaries, diplomats.
He's having an event on Friday night.
You'll be there.
While Dixon's in recovery, you'll go it alone.
We have no in to the party.
You won't be on the guest list.
Shouldn't be a problem.
Your mission is to retrieve Hassan's offshore-account number from Gerace's computer.
Dead-drop the info at Dinatti Park, which is five miles from the party.
When do I leave? Tonight.
So this guy I know was killed.
Danny Hecht.
Nicest guy in the world.
Killed in his bathroom.
The police say there's no motive, there was no suspect.
Then I stumble upon this.
There's a video blackout the night that he was killed.
- Weird.
- That's weird, right? There's more.
There's a woman named Kate Jones who was supposed to be traveling with Danny to Singapore that night.
So what do I do? I call around.
I find this woman.
Winds up she's lying to me.
Her real name is Eloise Kurtz.
Somebody paid her to talk to me.
Weird.
Thank you.
Yeah, well, it gets weirder.
This woman that said that she was Kate Jones she's dead.
Killed.
Who killed her? I don't know.
That's why I'm here.
Who killed Eloise Kurtz? Who killed Daniel Hecht? And then somebody covers up the passenger manifest.
I think whoever did that gave Eloise Kurtz that pin.
- Here we go.
- What? Damn.
This mama's gorgeous.
Why? Why is she so gorgeous? It's M.
E.
M.
S.
Micro-Electro-Mechanical System technology.
This is like the next gen's next gen.
What are you saying? This is government issue? The guy at the science lab - [High-pitched squeal.]
- Shh! - The guy - Shh! It's on.
What do you mean? Right now? Yes.
[High-pitched squeal.]
Who is it? I don't know.
You should report your boss to the corporate office.
Making you go to Boston after everything you just went through.
You deserve a month off with pay.
What do you think of this wedding dress? You can't go shopping for a wedding dress in a magazine.
Let's go to that boutique on Beverly.
I have always wanted a reason to go there, and now I have a reason.
Yeah.
You're getting married.
[Chuckling.]
I am.
I'm getting married.
- How about Saturday? - [Telephone rings.]
Hello? Joey's pizza? Wrong number.
- So Saturday? - Yes.
- Noon? - For sure.
VAUGHN: SD-6 doesn't want to bring Hassan to justice.
They just want revenge.
Revenge for what? Something you did.
When Hassan bought that nuclear weapon from SD-6 and you snuck into Hassan's base and stole the core back, he thought he was being double-crossed, that only SD-6 would have known he had the bomb and where it was.
Oh, God.
So last week, he sold SD-6 1 0 stinger anti-aircraft missiles.
They want him to fortify their base in Oman.
Hassan had a good laugh.
He took the money and ran.
Didn't deliver.
So SD-6 wants to send out a message to everyone else they do business with.
"Don't mess with SD-6.
" The CIA actually wants to bring Hassan to justice.
We want SD-6 to have that money.
Why? That way, we can tag the accounts and see where they take it, what they spend it on.
It'll give us a profile into how SD-6 does their banking.
Here.
Take this.
Attach it to the top of the SD-6 retrieval device.
It'll copy whatever you get from Gerace's computer.
[Sighs.]
Okay.
Are you okay? I was getting briefed by Marshall.
Okay, now, this thing sucks.
Literally.
Sucks all the information from the computer hard drive right into the internal flash ram.
Now, just place it on or near the computer hard drive and when this light is green, it's reading.
How long does it take? It should suck up to 40 gigs in under 2 minutes.
Do you want some candy? I just put this jar of candy in here.
I'm trying to make the place a little more inviting.
You want to take a seat in the inflatable chair? Come see me when you're done.
I should start with your test results.
You passed just fine.
The numbers were normal.
I'd hope so.
[Chuckles softly.]
I know what a difficult time this is.
I understand.
Dixon in the hospital.
Have you heard anything? He's still unconscious.
They're not sure how bad it is.
Look, Sydney I don't blame you for not talking to me the way you used to.
For hating me since what happened with Danny.
Please believe me when I tell you it was the last thing I wanted.
I begged security section not to take that action.
No, you didn't.
You don't have to believe me.
Why would you try and stop what you had ordered? Because of you.
I always knew there was something about you.
From the first time I saw you.
A lot can change in seven years.
It's been a lot longer than seven years.
I've known your father since 1 97 1.
I met him at Langley.
I knew your mother.
I went to your parents' wedding.
Sydney, I've known you since you were a baby.
I was out of the country for most of your childhood.
Various operations.
But I kept tabs on you.
I checked in in my own way.
I always thought of you as my daughter.
Even from the beginning.
Well, I just wanted to let you know before you went away.
[Door opens.]
It was almost like he was saying goodbye.
Like he knew that I'm not coming back.
You're gonna be okay.
We'll get through this.
Just contact me as soon as you get back.
I know.
With his account numbers.
No, I mean with or without the accounts.
Just as soon as you get back.
Okay.
- Okay? - Okay.
You wanted to see me? Sir? Yes.
I need to send a communiqué to SD-4 office in Rome.
Attention Spinelli.
Put it out through server 5.
Yes, sir.
I'm ordering with security section full knowledge the assassination of an SD-6 officer.
Method: Close-range hit.
[Inhales deeply.]
This officer is scheduled to make a dead drop at Dinatti Park, 1 0:00 p.
m.
Tomorrow.
That's when the kill should take place.
Yes, sir.
The target's name is Bristow.
Sydney Bristow.
Tell me why we're all gluttons for pain The girl is totally insane She doesn't know the meaning of tame Still, I can't put out the flame Hey, hey, I wanna play on the team that you despise Every day a new disguise Every night a Halloween She says "Keep the motor runnin', man" Like I was some machine Are you tryin' to talk, talk? But I'm keepin' her stock MARSHALL: Step one is to find Gerace and get ahold of something he touched.
Looks like a normal phone that you'd call.
"Hi, you want to go out on Fri" But "No? Okay, that's fine.
" But it's actually a biometric sensor.
Now, it lifts the print off any smooth surface, digitizes it, and then creates a liquid latex duplicate you can use to get into Gerace's study.
There's enough liquid latex for one copy, so make sure you get the right fingerprint.
On you like a hungry tick Like a junkie knows he oughta kick But I don't wanna be dope sick So I scramble for a fix Voodoo, sorcery too I can't shake your freaky spell Why fight? You've got me roped and tied [Beep.]
I'm so diggin' your scene I said you're playin' with my head I could split instead I'm so diggin' your scene Can anybody tell me why we're Springer bound? Why we feel so up when we're kept down? [Gasps.]
Damn it.
WILL: I don't know who you are but Eloise Kurtz was wearing this the day that she met me.
I assume that you heard at least that conversation, which means that you know that I'm a reporter and I've been trying to figure out what happened to Danny Hecht and now to Eloise Kurtz.
So if you killed her then you would know that I'm a threat to you, and you would've already killed me, too.
Unless you didn't kill her.
In which case, I need to talk to you.
My cell number is 3 1 0-555-01 53.
Please Call me.
Please.
I need to talk to you.
[Cellular phone rings.]
Hello? Francie? Yeah, hi.
No, I don't know where she is.
No, I don't think she got back yet.
[Door opens.]
[Beep.]
[Beeping.]
[Beep, door opens.]
[Beeping.]
Hey, Agent Bristow's been made.
We just unlocked this communiqué off the SD-6 server.
What? 1 0:00 P.
M.
, Dinatti Park.
They're gonna kill her.
SD-6 is gonna kill her.
I went to tell Davenport, but he's not in his office.
We need an extraction team assembled in Italy.
No, Tuscany now.
We only have two hours.
- I'll go tell Davenport.
- He's not in his office.
I'm gonna find him.
Get me Jack Bristow.
Jack Bristow.
Right.
[Beeping.]
[Beeping stops.]
[Door opens, closes.]
[Speaking Italian.]
I don't speak Italian.
But I love everything about this house.
Except the spinning.
Can you do something about the spinning? This floor is not for guests.
Can you tell me where the bathroom is? It's upstairs.
Watch your step.
- [Cellular phone rings.]
- Yeah? I got your message.
I'm on a secure line.
There's been a hit put out on Sydney.
I'm getting her out.
Not yet.
You could be making a mistake.
I don't think so.
Do nothing until you hear from me.
We already have a team en route.
[Click, dial tone.]
[Rock music plays.]
Ah! Yeah? I sent a communiqué to SD-4, but they never received it.
Oh, uh, you want some candy? No.
I need you to check the server logs right away.
Over here.
This, uh, here is a list of all outgoing messages in the last 7 2 hours.
- This includes every server? - Yeah.
Well, except server 5.
Since security section ran that drill, it's not connected to the main network.
Communiqué wouldn't go that route.
Let's look there anyway.
Okay, team's in place at Dinatti Park.
I've got six armed officers stationed and waiting.
One by the fountain.
Two at the southern entrance.
One at the western gate.
Our snipers are at the north end.
Standing by awaiting Bristow's arrival.
First sighting, I take her to safety.
Are they still scanning for gunmen? Yes, sir.
Scan's complete.
No shooters have been 20'd.
I've got three operatives surrounding the park on lookout.
Jack.
You should Take me to Field Ops.
[Door opens.]
- Mr.
Bristow.
- Call them off.
Did you read Sloane's transmission? She'll be in the park any minute.
No execution has been ordered.
This is a setup.
What are you talking about? Sloane's transmission was sent on SD-6 server 5.
It was only sent out to you.
Vaughn, they know someone's listening.
This is a test.
We'll take that chance, get Sydney out of there, and argue about this later.
You go in like this it'll only prove that you've intercepted Sloane's communiqué, and Sydney will be exposed.
You don't know that for a fact.
Why am I even talking to you? Lloyd, abort this mission.
- Hey, wait a minute! - We verified this order, Jack.
We pull back, you could be killing your daughter.
You're killing her if you don't.
How could you be willing to risk something like this? If Sydney makes her scheduled dead drop, and leaves the park, she will have proven herself loyal to SD-6.
Have them hold.
No.
Hold it.
This is Sydney's life.
You were meant to see that transmission.
You're the only ones who saw it.
Someone is going to kill her if we don't do anything.
I know how Sloane works.
He's bluffing.
MAN: Alpha 2, come in.
Bristow's entering the park.
We have two vehicles here that are not on list.
Red jacket.
Who's this guy in the jacket? Copy that.
Position 3, we have an approaching hostile.
Acquire male target.
This could be our guy.
What are we doing here? Jack, promise me you're not wrong about this.
Hold your position.
He could be going for a gun.
Prepare to take him out.
Stand by.
[Dog barks.]
Copy that.
That's her dead drop.
Okay.
She's out of the park.
She's clear.
[Exhales deeply.]
Good work, Jack.
[Sighs.]
Oy.
I just lost 30 pounds.
Okay? I'm not kidding.
Oh, God.
This is exactly why I became a reporter.
It's like the best movie ever made.
"His Girl Friday"? Yeah.
What's a better movie than that? "Godfather," "On the Waterfront" - "Citizen Kane" - Okay, you're right.
"Raging Bull," "Empire Strikes Back.
" Okay, whatever.
It sucks, all right? But it's why I wanted to become a reporter.
I saw this when I was a kid, and I loved it.
I was just, I don't know, all the quick - Repartee? - Yeah.
It looked fun, you know? Being a reporter looked fun.
- But it's not fun.
- [Laughs.]
It's a pain in the ass.
What's your problem? Will? What are you doing? Will? Scoot over.
[Laughs.]
Is something even in there? Oh, it's so ugly.
It's a bug.
It's a microphone.
- No, it's not.
- It's a story I'm working on.
I'm living in a puzzle.
I can't figure anything out.
I don't know who's doing what.
I'm a mess.
You're looking at a mess.
And whosever listening can go to hell! Hear that? Do you really think somebody's listening? Yeah, I don't even care anymore.
I just want to watch old movies and go to sleep.
Do you think I will find a good wedding dress? Fran, it's not a Magic 8 Ball.
Hello? Yeah.
Tell them to stop torturing me.
Stop torturing Will Tippin.
- He's my friend.
- [Cellular phone rings.]
Bad people.
Hello? MAN: [Disguised voice.]
Stop talking about the bug.
Tell the person you're with this is a wrong number.
- Hello? - [Click, dial tone.]
Who was that? It was a wrong number.
[Laughs.]
You sent the communiqué on server 5.
High-level intel could deduce that your directive was bogus.
Whoever's hacked into our computer network has no reason to believe we're setting them up.
The point is, they received the intel.
If Bristow had been their agent, they would have prevented her from going into the park last night.
Let's say she had been the mole.
So you're convinced she's not.
Well, whether she is or not, if your plan had worked, if she had been revealed as a mole, she would have been saved by her people.
And you would have effectively let her go.
You have your answer regarding Sydney Bristow.
What are you protecting? Mr.
Dreyer I still believe we have a situation here at SD-6.
I strongly suggest you keep looking for the mole and stop questioning every decision I make.
I hear what you're saying I'm listening now to all the words [Sighs.]
[Knock on door.]
Syd? Oh, Fran.
Hey, when'd you get back? Oh, my God.
Your wedding dress.
Oh, don't worry about it.
- I am so sorry.
- How was Boston? - Did you get my message? - I did.
It's okay, seriously.
It was probably insensitive of me to ask you to go wedding-dress shopping.
- Why? - Well, because You were supposed to be going through this.
And I understand.
And if you feel weird, I'll do whatever you need.
It's okay.
Francie.
This wasn't about me losing Danny.
This wasn't about me at all.
The only reason I didn't show up was because of work.
I promise.
Let's go next week, okay? Okay.
Hey, any news about Dixon? Is he okay? He still hasn't woken up.
I'm really sorry.
[Cellular phone rings.]
Hello? MAN: [Disguised voice.]
Hello, Will Tippin.
Who is this? - Go to 7 th and Spring.
- [Click, dial tone.]
SLOANE: Analysis has reviewed the information that you obtained from Gerace's computer.
Apparently, Hassan is more paranoid than we predicted.
His bank-account info wasn't there? Yes and no.
We know the bank, but not the account numbers.
Those numbers, according to the files on the hard drive, are not stored in any computer, because a computer can be hacked.
If they're not in a computer, where are the numbers? A safety-deposit box in this bank.
Omnicor, Incorporated.
Geneva, Switzerland.
You're going in with Russek.
You'll be Christiana Stevens.
You represent Dreiberg Diamonds.
You're looking for a bank to recommend to your clients for high-volume storage.
You leave tonight.
Great job in Tuscany.
[Door opens.]
So it was a trap.
Yes, it was.
If you had pulled me out, Sloane would have known I was the mole.
But I would have been safe.
He gave me an out.
He considers you a daughter.
Don't remind me.
How did you know not to step in? It was your dad.
He figured the truth.
That Sloane was setting us up.
Hmm.
What? It's gonna take forever to bring them down.
Well, this might help a little.
- What is it? - The new transmitter.
We'll be able to hear everything you're saying when you're in Switzerland.
When you open the safety-deposit boxes, read Hassan's bank-account numbers aloud.
SD-6 will get the numbers at the same time.
We'll tag the accounts right there and track every move SD-6 makes with that money.
[Sighs.]
I know it's not exactly a crushing blow, but Every bit helps.
[Telephone rings.]
Yes? Hello? MAN: [Disguised voice.]
Tell me you weren't followed.
No, not a chance.
Come on, man.
Who is this? You have questions about Kate Jones.
How far are you willing to go, Mr.
Tippin? I need to hear the words "I'm ready.
" Why? Why? Could my life be in danger? Say the words.
Yeah, I'm in.
I'm ready.
[Click, dial tone.]
[Bell pealing.]
Excuse me.
Can you tell me where Mr.
Franco is, please? Could you wait here a moment, please? Mr.
Franco.
Christiana Stevens, Dreiberg Diamonds.
I have an appointment to tour the facility.
Now, our security system is powered by an on-site underground generator, which means that we are unaffected by the city blackouts.
How high is your insurance coverage? We have no preset limit, although obviously, if your clients wish to store their diamonds here, we would have an independent appraiser value the merchandise.
How has the current political climate affected your privacy laws? Our first duty is always to the customer, that we Okay, Russek, I'm in.
Remember, Gerace's box is 22364.
I'm accessing the bank's on-line server.
I'll stay on station.
Wait for your relay.
Got it.
[Rapid beeping.]
[Hissing.]
[Beeping slows, stops.]
[Speaking French.]
Russek, I got it.
Are you ready? Go.
Delta 61 35, Charlie 7 echo.
[Computer beeps.]
That's it.
Okay.
Get this to our guys in Treasury.
I don't want to lose track of a single penny.
No kidding.
Okay, money's transferred.
You out of there yet, Sydney? [Grunts.]
Not just yet.
Help.
He just fainted.
I'll call an ambulance.
[Siren wailing in distance.]
WOMAN: [Distorted.]
Hey.
What are you doing? MAN: What did you tell that reporter? WOMAN: I told him exactly what I was supposed to tell him.
MAN: Did you mention [Garbled.]
WOMAN: Of course not.
MAN: Did you tell him about [Garbled voices.]
[Gunshots.]
It's an anomaly, sir.
While Sydney was in the bank vault, there was definitely an additional transmission out of Geneva.
Not one of ours.
I picked it up in Signals Intelligence.
It's just You wanted me to tell you if there was anything unusual.
I didn't just get someone in trouble, did I? [Telephone rings.]
Hello? Sydney, it's Diane.
He's woken up.
It's okay.
Go on in.
- I'm going to get some coffee.
- Okay, thanks.
- Hey.
- Hey.
It's so good to see you.
You too.
[Sighs.]
Dixon Do you remember what happened? The last thing I remember was walking out and trying to link to the satellite.
And that sweet smile of yours.
Yep, and there it is.
[Tires screech.]
[Gasping.]
[Air hisses.]
[Tires screech.]
[Telephone rings.]
Yeah? MAN: We got her.
[Click, dial tone.]
