- first up to show the judges his talent Is 38-year-old taxi driver soriah.
- my name is soriah.
I'm 38 years old.
I live here in portland, oregon, And I drive cab.
I end up singing for a lot of people in my cab.
And, yeah, works out pretty well with the tips.
I would like to move from the cab to the stage to sing.
When I go onstage, there's no doubt That they're gonna be moved By something they've never seen before.

- it's just you making a loud groaning noise.
I can do it.
- okay, okay.
- it's a ?Noooooooooo ? - I didn't get that.
What was that? I had no idea.
- it's three noes for soriah, But the portland auditions are far from over, And the judges are still searching For a million-dollar act.

- three brothers, and this is our sister.
- family of tap dancers.
- of course.
We started when we were little kids, Started performing on the streets At the portland saturday market.

Every day he got up at 4:00 in the morning At saturday market and waited until 10:00 In order for him to get the same spot That he got for ten years.
- I'd go out there and have fun, Even though our judges can be a little tough, though.
- well, yeah.
- yo, have you seen our father? - they've been used to taking criticism, 'cause that's what they get from their daddy.
- I heard that! - our ultimate dream Was that we would get to perform together And be able to make a living at it.
- go out there and have a great time And give 'em what you got.
- who are you? - I'm nick.

But if you should be lucky enough to come back, I think you got to step it up even more.
- I thought that was terrific.
I wasn't expecting six girls of your age to do hip-hop Or to be any good at it, and you are.
I think it could be tighter, but in terms of potential, I think you're quite exciting.

I was married once, and I played with my wife.
But she decided to stop playing harmonica, And she said, "Well, you have to stop too," You know.
So we argued.
Finally, we divorced.
It was not my goal, but It wasyou know.
So The greatest love of my life is the harmonica.
I am a harmonica enthusiast, And my goal is to share it with all america.
- good afternoon, sir.
What's your name, sir? - my name is pierre herbineaux.
- pierre.
And where are you from, pierre? - from brussels, belgium.
- brussels.

How does he know that? - well, I'd just like to say I really, really enjoyed your performance, But, however, I don't think I could hear it that often.
That's the problem.
The harmonica? As the lead instrument? - yes.
- I don't think I could take too much of it.
- I mean, look, pierre, I have never met A harmonica-playing watchmaker, ever, right? And I thought you brought A touch of class to our show, actually, pierre.

Howie? - I would definitely Definitely love to see you in vegas, yes.
- sharon? - I'm gonna have to say no.

- all four of us kids in our family Have cystic fibrosis.
It's a genetic disease.
It's a lung disease.
And it gets worse with age.
Your lungs can get really tight.
It's pretty - hard.
- yeah.
THE AVERAGE LIFE EXPECTANCY IS MID-, LATE-30s.
But we can enjoy every minute together that we have.
And if we pursue our dreams, Then it will give us something to look forward to Instead of dwelling on our disease.
Cystic fibrosis does not define us.
We define ourselves.
Tonight we are so excited To get on that stage and perform.
- go out there and get 'em! - this would be the opportunity of a lifetime, And I want the judges to look beyond everything, To just see us for who we are.
- hi, what's your name? - my name's ali.
- and I'm christina.
- okay.
Sisters? - yes.

- you know, I have two girls.
And, you know, I see my daughters when I look at you, And it's so inspirational, and there is a message here.

I really do.
- thank you.
Thank you so much.
- piers - to see you two standing there singing Is extraordinary.
If people know someone who has a terrible disease, It's an amazing thing that you're doing Just by walking out and singing.
- thank you.
- I know that.
And Having said that, You have entered a talent competition, So I need to put my judging hat on To tell you how good you are.
And I'm not gonna patronize you both.
I'm not gonna say you're the best singers we've had.
But I think you're very good singers.
But what you have that so few acts have, I think, is, You have absolute sincerity.
I believed every word you sang.
So I thought that was a really extraordinary performance.
- thank you.
- christina, give us a smile.
The best smile I have seen today.
You have the best smile, And you have such a joy when you sing.
You both do.
- thank you.
- and Listen, I'm gonna cut to the chase And just say yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
Howie? - it's amazing, and I'd be an idiot not to say yes.
