Andromeda s02e22 Episode Script

Tunnel at the End of the Light

[ ? .]
Two years Two years since we started, and this is only the beginning For today, we establish a new systems commonwealth.
This day marks the next stage of a dream, a dream of hope, a dream of freedom, a dream that will rekindle the light of civilization Because you, the delegates from the 50 member worlds, will ratify our commonwealth charter, unifying us all, and elect our first triumvir Dylan hunt for triumvir! Dylan hunt for triumvir! Who will not be me.
Aw.
Aw.
You are among the best and the brightest the universe has to offer.
The commonwealth will be well served by any one of you.
Now, please, mingle, and enjoy my ship's hospitality.
Thank you very much.
I'm so excited to meet you.
Thank you, thank you.
We've waited for two years for this day.
I can't believe harper's missing it.
Oh, well, Dylan thought it would be best for everyone concerned if harper was far, far away from delegates.
? Old Roseanna oh, don't you cry for me ? ? for I come from Louisiana with a bad girl on my knee ? kaboom.
That's right, baby.
Why am I not even slightly surprised he would turn down the opportunity to lead an empire? Commonwealth.
Semantics.
I just hope all this peace, unity, and fat of the land doesn't render us complacent.
Critical systems failure in machine shop 17.
Code orange in machine shop 17.
Complacent.
Right.
Critical systems failure Eeks! I'm aware of that.
How about "critical systems repaired" in machine shop 17, huh? Andromeda, cut all power to machine shop 17.
Acknowledged.
Captain hunt, you're still my choice for first triumvir.
Well, thank you, madame prevor, but I will best serve the commonwealth at the helm of my ship.
I'm more of a soldier than I am a politician.
Then what sort of person would you endorse, captain? Oh, I don't know.
Maybe someone who single-handedly, as prime minister, gave ne'holland a bill of civil rights? That sort of person [ Beeping .]
Don't anybody look at rosey.
It's not her fault.
It's definitely something else.
I've located two more ruptures in the power transfer line.
[ Explosions .]
Let's discuss this.
After you.
As your friend, I give you fair warning-- without you as first triumvir, many member worlds are scared to commit their fleets and planets to commonwealth control.
Some delegates are even looking for an excuse not to ratify the charter, an excuse to get out Then it will be my job not to give them that excuse.
Excuse me, madame prevor.
Captain hunt, may I have a word? Why, yes.
I'll just be a moment.
Rommie? What's up? Smile.
Excuse me? Smile.
Oh, okay, okay.
I'm, uh, I am smiling.
We have a problem.
What did harper do? Well Hi.
Although it did originate in harper's machine shop, I've traced it to the a.
I.
Core, and now it's spreading to my mainframe functions.
Oh, oh-- how are you? Rommie, you picked a bad day to break down.
It's not me.
It's sabotage.
He is the last guardian of a fallen civilization, a hero from another time.
Faced with a universe in chaos, Dylan hunt recruits an unlikely crew and sets out to reunite the galaxies.
On the starship Andromeda, hope lives again.
How bad is it? Harper and rommie are running a diagnostic and repair on the a.
I.
Core, but it's anyone's guess when they'll strike again.
I intentionally took us into an uninhabited system to safeguard against external threats.
That narrows your suspects.
It's either your trusty crew, or Time to learn even more about our guests.
We should search their quarters.
Do it, and if they object, do it anyway.
[ Beeping .]
Stop.
Nietzschean delegate number four, a senator.
What kind of life does a nietzschean mother expect for her son when she names him Genghis Stalin? He's said to be a delightful conversationalist.
Stop.
Zhukov pashtun, senator from the sabra homeworld, military intelligence, former secretary of the sabra politburo.
Family ties and financial support? Processing deep intelligence No wives or children, estranged from parents, finances unknown.
Keep going.
He matches the profile.
Are you sure? No, I'm not sure.
Next.
I'm sure you'll agree a mutual defense pact would be greatly beneficial to both parties And then I followed your exploits as you spirited refugees across the Magog quarantine zone Thank you very much, first consul cernan, for your interest in my career.
Oh, your storied career.
I teach a class called "operational history of the high guard" at the sinti strategic studies institute.
You are the commonwealth's greatest asset.
Stop.
His name is james severin, but he's not nietzschean.
He's human.
Deeper background.
Credit reports and medical records.
What about that hospital stay? Mercy hospital Repaired a shattered ulna.
Huh.
Accessing previous x-ray.
He's had his bone blades removed so he could pass as a human.
Hey.
Shall I shoot you while you're squatting there, or would you like to stand up first? My internal defenses just activated.
That rules out the admiral.
Get harper.
Mm-hmm.
Glad you could make it.
Thank you.
Dammit, boss, I'm an engineer, not a baby-sitter.
How come I have to baby-sit the peanut gallery? Come on, you know I'm diplomacy-challenged.
I make fish angry.
Do whatever you have to do, but nobody leaves that room.
What the hell am I supposed to do with a bunch of four-eyed freaks? Uh, sorry, sir.
Um, three-eyed freaks.
NoHere, right this way.
I have a show to do for you.
Huh? You like magic? Desk job, orbital bus driver, prison guard What are you doing? Reviewing all of the jobs I could be doing other than putting my ass on the line every day.
Yet here you are.
Ah, no peeking.
Okay All right, madam.
Is your cardOmega of stars? No.
Uh, how about you, ambassador orgo? Now, take a close look with your keen vision.
Do you have it? Anybody? Did anybody pick the omega of stars? Come on, one of you politicos must have the omega of stars.
Who has the omega of stars? Liars For my next trick, ambassador orgo, I'll need your assistance, please.
Bravo, bravo.
Whoa, watch your step.
Hey Now, let's hear it for ambassador orgo.
Internal defenses deactivated.
[ Whirring .]
[ Breathing .]
Tyr, don't shoot.
The drago-kazov sent you to sabotage my ship.
I want to know their plans.
Look, you can talk to me, or talk to him.
The choice is yours.
[ Screams .]
What the What the hell was that? It wasn't the drago-kazov.
Whatever it was, I don't think we're going to like it.
Walking through walls-- we've seen this trick before.
Or not seen it Sorry.
This is different.
This time, I can't even pick up zero-Point emissions.
The arm that pulled severin through the wall seemed pretty visible.
That's the problem.
I couldn't detect it until I saw it, and I still can't tell you if the intruder is on board or not.
Was it protecting severin from us, or us from severin? Let's just assume the worst.
It's bad, and we can't see it.
Maybe we don't have to see it.
How much do you weigh? Excuse me? The ship.
How much does it weigh? Ah, because the intruder's mass will distort my mass.
That's how we can detect it.
I'll monitor any gravitational hiccups in my a.
G.
Field.
Activating shipwide mass sensors.
My power is being diverted And concentrated Onto the obs deck.
Now, anybody can pull a rabbit out of an empty hat, huh? But how about a rabbit's foot? Bravo! Thank you.
Or even better than a rabbit's foot, how about a gerbil? Oh, my.
Lester? Here, gerbil, gerbil, gerbil, gerbil, gerbil.
Ta-dah! We made him disappear.
Bravo! Thank you, thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
Take a bow, ambassador.
Bravo, bravo! Let's see what else we can make disappear.
What do you think, ambassador? Whooh! I'm flooding the obs deck with sensor energy.
I can't stop it.
It'll microwave everyone to death.
Harper, get them out! He can't hear you.
What's wrong with your ship? We're being irradiated! No, it's all part of the magic.
Remember, admiral-- right this way, please-- remember, magic is not logical.
Magic is magical.
It's all part of the illusion.
Why are your doors sealed? Uh, they're not.
It's the old sticky-doors- trapped-In-a-room gag.
To create the illusion of mass hysteria.
Good job, people.
Now, give me a moment, and watch as I try to get them open.
Ta-dah! Follow us.
All right, let's go.
All right, come on.
Just hold on, my dear.
Everything will be fine.
Glad that's over.
I guess the cat's out of the bag, huh? You think? Dylan wants them in the slipstream control center.
The slipstream control center? For their protection.
You put us in your slipstream core to protect us? So what's next, the nuclear reactor to save our lives? It contains three layers of bulkheads, and truly, sir, it is safer than where you are standing right now.
Friends, friends, let's not panic or bicker.
Surely, we can stay together and follow instructions, hmm? Let's all act like adults here.
Yeah, come on.
Let's go, people.
Hold hands with your buddy.
Come on, move it along.
Admiral, please.
[ Harper .]
: Keep going, single file.
Gold stars for everybody.
Show's over.
Thank you.
You're doing great.
Don't worry, the captain's got everything under control.
He's got everything under control, right? That's right.
Keep up.
No lagging behind.
You, in the back-- nietzscheans too.
Come on.
I'm guessing he'll choose a high-visibility target, probably Zhukov.
That's one nomination Zhukov doesn't want.
I don't like the idea of using live bait, but it's the only way.
Dylan, I think it's here.
We're being paraded like cattle to a sausage shop.
I won't go further.
Stay here.
We'll be in slipstream control.
You're as scared as the little one.
Absolutely Or doesn't that make sense? Gentlemen, gentlemen Look out! This way, this way.
Move, move! He's very strong.
Madame prevor, madame prevor Are you all right? Yes, yes.
Yes, I am.
What is that thing? We don't know.
You don't know? Then I say we get to our transports, call our ships, and go home.
No, that's exactly what they want, to break us apart.
Captain hunt is right.
There's no place safer than on the Andromeda-- so where's your protection now, captain? She was standing right next to me, and I couldn't do anything to protect her.
Don't reproach yourself.
There are still So it's only subtraction to you, is it? Those dead delegates Tell that to their families.
Who'll write that letter? You, captain hunt? Call your fleets.
We'll ratify the charter another day.
Tyr We catch severin.
It kills him, so he won't talk, but since it's obviously not drago-kazov, what does it want? The commonwealth has more than one enemy.
Then why doesn't it just destroy me? It would seem to have the ability.
Then there's no one left to tell the tale.
The best way to kill a dream is to discredit the dream.
And me.
If the commonwealth's most powerful asset can't protect a few delegates, then what good is the commonwealth? We'll just have to show them how good it is.
You cannot let the delegates leave this ship.
Why not? Remember how I came back from a bad future? Yes.
You said you had mistakes to fix.
This is the mistake I came back to fix.
Explain.
In that future, we also held a charter convention on the Andromeda, only somebody sabotaged it, and we never figured out who.
We still don't know who.
True, but the delegates left for their respective homeworlds.
That was followed by a huge alien attack.
Keeping them on board will stop that attack? I don't know, but I do know that this is the moment when things could go terribly wrong.
I have about a million questions.
I will answer what I can, but first, you have to stop those delegates.
If the intruder can bypass my defenses, it can do the same to the delegates' transports.
Andromeda, seal all hangar doors.
Don't let one delegate off this ship.
Rommie, you're with me.
Captain, I appreciate your escort, but it's quite unnecessary.
I'm afraid it isn't.
Your name's number one on the hit list.
Then perhaps it might be better for all of us if I walked alone.
Not on my ship.
Here, we walk together.
That is what they looked like right before they attacked us.
I've never seen ships like that.
I saw them, millions of them, popping up from everywhere, right in front of us, and then just disappearing.
The amount of energy required for dimension-shifting ships of that number doesn't exist in a galaxy.
It's a scientific impossibility.
That is also what we thought.
No! God Dammit, rommie.
What are these things? Rommie [ Tyr .]
: I can't imagine so formidable a species would need severin, a nietzschean, to do their legwork for them.
Agreed.
Severin never worked for these creatures.
He was with the drago-kazov.
He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, much like we are.
I don't think they're here to stop the commonwealth.
These creatures don't give a damn about the commonwealth.
So what the hell are they, and what are they doing here? [ Beeping .]
A ship just materialized in front of us [ Alarm sounding .]
And it's firing.
That's it.
That's the ship.
Battle stations.
Tyr, fire.
It disappeared.
My sensors can't find it anywhere.
That's impossible.
The ship's reappeared, starboard 3-0.
Tyr, return fire.
Trance, tell me how we fought these guys.
I don't know everything, but I do know that we couldn't fight them.
They won.
Tell me how they won.
Dylan, nothing is going to make a difference now.
We've come too far into that bad future.
The Andromeda will be incinerated, and you will all die.
We should head back to sinti and regroup till we figure out what they want.
The enemy ship has reappeared.
Starboard, Switching fire control to target two.
We're wasting our fire.
Let's make them waste theirs.
Defensive missiles.
There.
Now we got your number.
I'm detecting a second ship.
Two ships, above and below.
One sensor drone.
Track them.
Beka, zigzag.
Got to love the crazy Ivan.
I'm detecting multiple slipstream events-- more ships, four light-minutes out.
Looks like they're from the member worlds.
That works.
Unity is a great thing.
Tell them to join the fight.
Dylan, they're not responding And they're not attacking.
Excellent, captain.
I'll be right there.
Whoa.
Wait a minute.
No one's going anywhere, captain's orders.
You understand.
Get out of my way, little man.
My fleet is here to take me home.
[ Explosion .]
Go ahead.
Don't mind if we just stand here and listen to your ship go "boom" in the firefight.
Let me introduce myself.
I'm not only the senator from sabra.
I'm also an admiral, and a pretty good pilot, so who's coming with me? Well, all right, wait a minute.
Let me reintroduce myself.
I'm Seamus harper, and this Is my line in the sand.
If you're not with me, you're against me.
All right, all right.
Go ahead.
Get the hell out of here, because if you don't, I'll put a bullet in your head.
Either way, you die, admiral.
You talk right.
I believe this crew will fight for survival.
Now Prove to me you can defeat these ships.
Prove it, and you've got a fighting fleet.
Terrific.
Now it's an audition.
We're getting a data dump on the alien ship movements.
Good.
I want to know where to lay down fire.
Inconclusive.
Their movements are too random for me to predict their positions for targeting.
So it's still a crapshoot.
Maybe I can improve those odds.
Trance, replace tyr on fire control.
I don't want to make any more mistakes.
You have already faced them.
That's an advantage.
Dylan, I told you-- I know that we are in trouble, but I don't know enough to know how to get us out of it.
You told me once that we shape our future with our intentions.
Well, I intend to survive no matter what.
I know you can do this.
Do it.
Missiles, aft, uh, 30 degrees.
Fire.
Starboard, Fire.
Yeah, that's it, baby! Scared money walks, sweet sugar-action talks.
I heard that one in a casino once.
Firing.
Yes! Rommie, tell Mr.
Harper we just passed the audition.
Aye.
The commonwealth charter, for your ratification, sir.
Tell your captain I'm on my way.
Ow.
Nietzscheans Call me.
All right, trance.
Give me some more of that sweet sugar-action thing.
Aye.
Enemy ships-- multiple vectors heading for us, and disappearing.
What should I do? What you've been doing, only times 30.
Beka, get us out of here.
The commonwealth fleet is engaging the enemy ships.
What do you know? It's the cavalry.
We're being hailed-- fleet admiral Zhukov.
Put him through.
Admiral So how do we whip these bogeys, hunt? There's one way to fight a superior opponent.
Well, I've never fought a superior opponent.
Asymmetric warfare-- it's an area denial strategy.
You're going to carpet bomb space? I like it.
They can only pop up in the areas we choose, like that old earth game of whack-a-mole.
Right.
Uh, let the games begin.
Fire A lot.
I think we just created a new future.
[ Beeping .]
just appeared.
Now, another six.
They're firing.
Where are they coming from? Rommie, we need answers.
Another 10 ships.
Not numbers.
Answers.
They're firing.
This is just what happened before.
They just appeared, and they overwhelmed us.
A hundred ships just don't appear out of thin air.
It's not possible.
Unless Maybe we can find them the way we found our intruders.
Rommie? I'm detecting a massive gravity well Mapping it.
Looks like we're on the wrong side of a drain.
Based on mass, it appears to be a dimensional tunnel from another universe.
That's it.
That's how they overran us.
We never saw it.
But we see it now.
Another universe It's unbelievable.
A sort of pocket universe, perhaps, cut off from our own.
And eager to wreak havoc.
Rommie, how is this possible? Best guess? Maybe there's a massive generator in that universe that can power their ships and allow them to dimension-shift.
The only way they can keep that baby open for business is if they harnessed the energy from all the suns in a galaxy, and speaking as an experienced genius, people, that is some pretty advanced technology.
I'm thinking it would take them more than 10,000 years to accumulate that kind of power.
That's interesting, because it'll take us less than one day to destroy it.
How? Mr.
Harper, how's Roseanne feeling? Well, bossanova, although rosey'd been saving herself for a nice big Magog worldship lunch, I'd say a universe-crunching dimensional time tunnel qualifies as a break-glass-in-emergency kind of emergency, so, in short, rosey's ready to rumba.
All right, I'm on my way.
Andromeda, disengage.
Roseanne needs a maru-sized limo to take her to the dance.
Beka, no.
Dylan is going to pilot.
Why shouldn't I pilot my own ship? Why shouldn't you? Because you did last time, and it didn't work out.
Trance, when you-- when the new you showed up, a future me tesseracted back in time with you.
Don't pretend like you don't know what I'm talking about.
Cybernetic eye patch, facial scars, robotic hand That's right.
You and I survived because of a mistake, a mistake that we made.
We survived.
Where's the mistake? That is the mistake.
Only we survived.
Dylan, meet Roseanne.
Let's just say you don't want her to fall on you, 'cause, man, she is heavy.
Maybe that's not so polite.
Let's call her "pretty plus.
" Can she blow up that tunnel? Are you kidding? She's got a temper meaner than three nova bombs, cubed, and an angry vedran after he catches me with his daughter.
I never authorized you to build anything that powerful.
So I added a daughter.
Tell me how this thing works.
All right.
Timing is everything.
Fly low and slow, drop it down the center, then get far away, fast, 'cause when rosey blows, the universe knows.
I understand the risks.
I don't think you do.
In trance's future, you didn't know about the dimensional tunnel, but you did get the idea to use harper's Roseanne to blow up a star.
Sure.
That way, we would incinerate all the ships in the system After we slipstream out, first, of course.
Huh.
I was a pretty smart guy in trance's future.
Yeah.
Well, I volunteered to take the bomb in the maru.
And I sent trance with you? Dylan, they ambushed the maru.
I dropped the bomb too soon before you could slip out of the system.
I killed you And the commonwealth.
Then I should go Put us in a different future, maybe a better one.
It already is a better one, because now I know what I can do to make it better, for you, for the rest of the crew, for the universe.
How many people can say that? I can.
You won't be disappointed.
I know.
You know? That's good.
Tyr, what are you doing here? I need you on fire control.
Trance has been acquitting herself quite nicely.
I believe I'll be of better service protecting beka from any dimension-Shifting intruders.
Dylan, enemy ships incoming.
Report to command.
On my way.
Well Go, andGood luck.
Rommie, status.
They're engaging zhukov's fleet at three light-minutes out.
Let's join the battle.
Hurry, beka.
Tyr, why did you really come with me? Fly the ship, beka.
You and I have overcome greater odds and emerged stronger.
We will again.
The aliens outnumber zhukov's fleet 10 to 1, but he's holding his own.
Way to go, admiral.
Andromeda, let's reinforce their flank.
I'm detecting 10,000 enemy ships emerging from the tunnel.
It'sBeautiful.
Remember my admonition about becoming complacent? About forgetting what it means to test our will against the universe? Well, we have two.
Yeah, but we're going to win this time.
Coming in low and slow Preparing to launch Roseanne.
Ready inTen Nine Eight Seven Tyr! Five Four Three Two One! Tyr! Rommie, get us out of this gravity wave! Zhukov, get your fleet out of here! We're clear.
Beka did it! Rommie, find the maru.
Scanning.
Guys, when beka and tyr destroyed the tunnel, they also took out the aliens' generator.
Every alien ship in the freakin' system just dimension-shifted into "sayonara, senorita.
" Rommie, the maru I found it.
It's on its way back to the ship On autopilot.
