Chaos (2011) s01e03 Episode Script

Love And Rockets

I'm Agent Rick Martinez.
Let me be the first to welcome you to the CIA.
And this is the story of America's great house of spies.
You've heard of office politics? Ours come with poison pills and guns.
- Spy trap.
- I knew this was going to be a fiasco.
I've been assigned to a special covert unit, conceived to go where others can't and to do what others won't, whether the mission's authorized or not.
We each have our own special skills, Martinez.
I lead, Billy charms people, Casey hurts people, and you translate.
We are the ODS, last of the old-school spies.
I don't believe you.
Martinez, I don't care whether you believe me.
It's true.
It is.
Come on.
You had sex with tipper Gore? Not sex.
We had two chaste, pleasant dates.
Not to mention a fleeting dalliance in the back of a cab.
I don't classify that as a date.
Morning, gentlemen! I was hoping maybe we could talk.
It's important to have hope.
Ah.
It's about a mission.
I have worked up this killer plan for this killer operation.
I thought I'd bring it straight to the ODS, 'cause you're the best of the best, and I only run with the best.
Well, peddle it elsewhere, operative blanke.
We don't partner with hall rats.
What if I told you that I have secured an invitation to the secluded compound of notorious international criminal Alexei Dratschev? Dratschev? The arms dealer? Not to mention drug smuggler, human trafficker King.
King? Dratschev runs Transnistria, a lawless little strip of land that split off I have a contact at a firm that handles immigration and asylum issues for compromised folks like Dratschev.
Oh, you mean, tyrannical despots or brutal warlords.
The occasional cannibal.
Well, let's just say, my friend arranged for idi amin's so-called exile to the penthouse suite of the hotel Novotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
But you did not hear that from me.
Dratschev is expecting a team of immigration lawyers this weekend to discuss his relocation to France.
Now, as you will see in Section 13, Subsection C of my mission outline, we go in posing as those lawyers.
Dratschev will roll out the red carpet to us, completely unsuspecting of our true agenda, that being bringing a dangerous criminal to justice.
We go in, 'cause you think you're coming, too, right? Well, of course.
The mission requires the expertise of a trained lawyer.
You do know I graduated from Yale law.
Okay.
You got yourself a mission.
Now, how do we get out? We'd have 20 Miles of private army to get through.
That's the sweet part.
Because inside the command, Dratschev feels safe.
We'd only have to take down a handful of bodyguards and then whisk him away by chopper.
Yeah, but his compound has antiaircraft capabilities.
We'd be blown out of the sky.
How do you expect to disable it? I-I'm still working on addressing that particular Hiccup.
I can get us out.
I will enter the compound in a compartment built into the backseat of our SUV.
While the others are doing business with Dratschev, I'll slip out and disable his air defense system.
Trojan horse strategy.
- An oldie but goodie.
- Well, it's a wonderful plan, except no man could withstand a cramped space like that for Any appreciable amount of time.
I can.
You could last 14 hours in there? Yes.
You're even more delusional than I originally suspected.
It's simply a matter of mental toughness.
Cultivate a stoic center, and the capacity for human endurance is limitless.
It's kind of like tantric sex.
It's not possible.
For a man of your age, weight and mental capacity, it probably isn't, but for me, it's a piece cake.
You know, as director of clandestine services, usually, when people want something from me, they kiss my ass.
They don't insult me.
I imagine that's true.
Prove me wrong, and the mission is approved.
Casey, just press that button right there, and this light will let us know to release you.
Otherwise, see you in 14 hours.
Seal it up.
I have some good news.
Hey.
Uh, what's that? The CIA code of conduct handbook.
I thought I'd better check.
We're safe.
Turns out there's no rule against employee dating.
We just have to fill out some disclosure forms.
Ooh, that sounds sexy.
Are we really at the paperwork stage yet? Ah, good point.
Yeah.
So, did you hear? We're mounting a mission to grab Alexei Dratschev.
Yeah, I heard.
Sounds risky.
Be careful.
I will.
Coming up on 12 hours, sir.
Mr.
malick has done remarkably well, but this is a controlled environment.
Things are little less predictable in the field.
Introduce the variable.
Bring out Roger.
Oh.
Come on.
That's not fair.
I've completed my mission analysis, sir.
Satellite surveillance confirms a limited security team on the premises.
Tactical support is standing by.
It's been 14 hours and two minutes, sir.
I don't know whether to be impressed or terrified.
Get Mr.
malick out of that tin can and congratulate him.
Mission approved.
You boys are my best customers.
Damn near my only customers.
Molded the belly pan to Casey's exact measurements.
What do you think? That is the work of a true artist.
Farmer, you are the best damn tactical support man in the business.
You bet your ass I am.
That metal's all hand turned.
I baffled the aluminum to conduct away body heat.
Try it on for size.
A good old trojan horse.
Genius.
Classics never go out of style.
Like tunnels.
Nobody wants to get their fingernails dirty anymore, but I'm telling you Give me a shovel and a week, and I'll put you in Vladimir putin's bedroom.
That's good to know.
All right, gentlemen.
How's it feel? Like my lover's arms.
Button me up.
All right, 3:00 a.
M.
I'll hit that compound in the chopper for 60 seconds Max.
That's all the time we'll need.
You're heading into the badlands, boys.
You're chugging up river into the proverbial heart of darkness.
And at the end of that river lives a vile, despicable tyrant who strikes fear into the hearts of all who encounter him.
I won't lie to you, gentlemen.
Super glad I'm not in your shoes.
I'm just kidding with you guys.
Did you see him? I thought you going to cry.
That was funny.
Our firm will take care of all the relevant immigration requirements, and expediting a visa.
Damn, these rabbits get faster! And I get slower.
Our services include confidential wiring of any funds to private accounts.
You'd merely need to pay the host country a nominal fee.
Money's no object.
Nikolai, this rifle is no good.
Give me a better one.
Have you tried a rocket launcher? My kind of hunter.
And the rabbit lives another day.
We can also provide residence.
Although I don't think it'll be at the scale of your current home, Mr.
Dratschev.
It'll be a shame to leave this place.
I'm not the one leaving my home.
But that's what we've been discussing.
You're leaving the country; That's why we're here.
No, you misunderstand.
I'm not the one you're relocating.
There they are my daughters.
This is why you're here.
I want them to live somewhere safe.
With me, they'll never be safe.
I was under the impression that this was all arranged.
Do we have a problem now? No, no, no, no.
Not at all, Mr.
Dratschev.
We would be more than happy to help your daughters.
Gentlemen, I accept full responsibility for the faulty intelligence that I have provided you and willingly submit to any punishment or retaliation on your part Doesn't change the plan.
In fact, we might be able to use this to our advantage.
We still need to get the lay of the land here.
Maybe the ladies wouldn't mind giving us a tour.
You feeling charming today, William? At the very least, appealing.
Take Martinez with you.
I'll keep dear old dad occupied.
Mr.
Dratschev, you cannot be keeping those heavenly creatures to yourself.
Tatiana.
Oh, hey.
Richard.
Hi.
Richard.
Yes, yes.
Nice to meet you.
What's my assignment? Just stand there and look pretty, blanke.
On second thought, you can probably just stop that now.
So that way goes to my father's study, and The kitchen is there.
Come.
That way is, uh, to my bedroom.
Would you like to see it? Um I don't think your guards would appreciate that very much.
Never mind them.
They nap most of the time.
So, what do you and your sister do to amuse yourselves around here? I think my idea of fun is very different than Tatiana's.
So, you're a lawyer? Mm-hmm.
Where did you attend law? I'm an Oxford man.
Oh.
I hope to study there someday.
I'm particularly interested in their biochemistry department.
That has a great faculty, and I highly recommend it As I do the local pubs.
What did you study? Primarily international law and finance.
Where did you live on campus? You know here and there.
Everywhere.
Let's go swimming! Swimming? Uh-huh! Wow, isn't it freezing out there? No, the swimming pool is heated! Oh, it's going to be great! Whoo! Let's go! You're not a swimmer? I don't get naked for strangers.
Seems an unnecessarily strict policy.
Is that the security system? Seems a little excessive, considering the small army you got surrounding the place.
It is not to keep people out; It's to keep my sister in.
That's a bit extreme.
Last time Tatiana snuck out, my father found her in Tanzania.
Mmm.
I guess that means you're both trapped.
Tatiana, yes.
Me, no.
I'm very good with numbers.
I asked you to take a tour, Martinez, not go skinny-dipping.
Just to be clear, that pool was not heated.
I think I did some serious damage to myself, okay? You're sure those guards will stay in the room? Yeah.
Tatiana said they pretty much drink and watch tv all night.
Not unlike their American counterparts.
All right, do not drop this it's halothane, a general anesthetic which should knock the guards out for at least five hours.
Now, the timer's already been set to go off at 2:00 a.
M.
, which will give us plenty of time to get Dratschev on that chopper at 3:00.
All you need to do is get this into that security room.
Not a problem.
The security system Is a problem.
From what I could gather, there are at least three backups.
By the time we've disarmed the first, the second will have already been triggered.
Can operative malick disarm it from outside? Possibly.
If not, our only way out of here is that code.
Which I have every reason to believe is in his lovely daughter's head.
Ah.
Sounds like your department.
I don't know.
That masha, she's a tough cookie.
Ah.
I have every confidence in your ability to woo, seduce and cajole.
- You got it? - Looking at them now.
Two cases, two rockets per case.
And did you see the radioactive symbol? We did.
My report on Dratschev doesn't show him dealing in nukes.
Well, he's obviously expanding his catalogue.
We're running the rockets through the ordnance database.
We'll get back to you as soon as we know anything.
Make it fast.
We're putting Dratschev on a chopper and flying out of here tonight.
I want both girls to have new identities.
Nothing that will tie them to me.
Very easy to accomplish.
And they must never want for anything.
Whatever money they need, they get.
Except for Tatiana.
She's not so prudent.
Any funds you send will be placed in Swiss accounts.
We'll, um we'll set up a monthly stipend to control her spending urges.
Take a shot.
Thank you, sir.
I'm honored.
Their safety Is Paramount.
I need you to guarantee it.
Your daughters will be safer than ever, Mr.
Dratschev.
I'm sorry, do you have a bridge that I They lost a brother.
Mikhail.
We're sorry.
Thank you, young man.
But you have nothing to be sorry for.
I, on the other hand You see, in my business, children are luxury a wise man cannot afford.
But I did not realize this until it was too late.
Mikhail wanted to go abroad to study, and I allowed it, with protection, of course.
But you know how young people are.
They want to be free.
He eluded his security detail to go to a party.
And that's how my enemy found him alone.
Excuse me, sir, do you have a longer bridge? Just take the shot.
I was patient.
I waited for many years to have my revenge, and when it came They paid.
They paid for harming my family.
They paid, and their children paid.
I must let my daughters be free, in spite of what happened to their brother.
Masha can be anything she wants to be.
Half time, I don't even understand what she's talking about.
It's time for them to go out of the cage.
That's why I came to you.
And I'm grateful.
Thank you.
Mm-hmm.
So, what's going to happen to the girls once their father's been arrested? Well, they won't have their father's protection anymore.
They'll just have to fend for themselves.
Well, I feel kind of crappy right now.
Try to remember the tens of thousands of people that he's murdered as a result of his arms trade.
You'll feel better.
It's nearly midnight.
I think it's time you took that walk.
Nice! Soccer! I mean, uh, football.
Very nice.
Nice.
Hmm? Vodka.
All right.
All right.
Sure.
Bring it on! (Speaks indistinctly) Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Mmm! You know what would go great with this vodka? Olives.
Olives.
Olives.
Ah.
Nope.
You guys really need to stock up on olives.
I'm going to go.
This report just came in from analysis.
The missiles that operative malick discovered on the Dratschev compound are alazan rockets.
Alazan rockets? Never heard of them.
The Soviets invented them in an effort to seed clouds with a small radioactive explosion.
Nuke the clouds to make it rain.
Typically brilliant Soviet thinking on that one.
When the experiment failed, the rockets were weaponized.
Small, portable, radioactive.
Sounds like the perfect dirty bomb.
Mr.
Dratschev is expecting you.
Thank you.
Thank you for coming.
Let's go to my office.
Are you sure it was him? It was firouz moradi.
Who's that? He's a colonel in Iran's quds force.
They're somewhere between the Navy seals and al-qaeda.
Military training in service of terrorist ops.
Not the friendliest children in the schoolyard, in other words.
Question is, what is he doing here? I don't know, but it's a hell of a wrinkle this close to go time.
Hq.
Flag on the play.
What type of flag are we talking about? Dratschev received a shipment of nukes here tonight.
Three guesses who the customer is.
If the iranians get their hands on those missiles They won't.
Our mission just changed.
I've got Casey.
Go ahead.
So, the mission is more or less the same with different cargo.
Instead of kidnapping Dratschev, we're stealing some rockets.
- Should we go for both? - Too risky.
Failing to bring in Dratschev is one thing, but failing to secure those nukes Is not an option.
Casey, what's your status? Alazans are secured on the truck, which is hotwired and ready to go.
Great.
Once the four of us are out of the house, Martinez and I will take the truck.
We'll all meet at the lz.
But remember, once they hear that helicopter, they're going to know their antiaircraft system is down, so we're going to need to move fast.
Got it.
Any luck with the alarm system? This thing's just lights on a Christmas tree.
The control panel is inside the house.
You're going to have to handle it on your end.
Everything all right there, operative blanke? Yeah.
I'm just doing some neck rolls.
I hold a lot of tension in my c4, c5.
Can you get masha to open the doors for us? I think a better course of action would be to entice Tatiana into a moonlight swim, get her to convince her sister to shut down the alarms.
All right.
Do whatever it takes, but do it soon.
We have a tight window, and I don't think any of us want to be stuck here.
How you doing? Hello.
Listen, I've been thinking about your offer earlier.
Thought you might be able to get your sister to turn off the alarm and let us out for a dip.
I don't think so.
Oh, come on.
I thought you were the daring one.
I'm unarmed.
No need to shoot.
I don't know what I was thinking.
Please don't tell my father.
I beg you.
He will kill him.
Well, of course not.
Of course not.
And I'm very happy for you, by the way.
Both of you.
I would never stand in the way of true love Or true lust, or whatever it is.
So sweet dreams.
Good evening.
It's very late.
I'm sorry, and I hope I didn't wake you.
Do you mind if I come in? Thank you.
What do you want? I was hoping you could show me around the grounds.
You know, maybe we could talk some more about the dreaming spires of Oxford.
Actually, I wanted to ask you, which Professor should I choose for art history at Oxford? I didn't take art history.
Really? Because it's a required course.
You are a very smart young woman, masha.
And you caught me.
All right? So I padded my résumé.
I mean, lord knows, in this job market, it takes every edge, right? In fact, I don't really believe you're a lawyer at all.
And now you're here in the middle of the night wanting to go for a walk.
Which, of course, means turning off the security system.
Masha, please.
If I press that button, the guards will be here in ten seconds.
Are you here to hurt my father? No.
At least, not anymore.
What do you want? You know what he does for a living, don't you? How he pays for all this? Now, I'm here to stop him from doing something that will hurt thousands of people.
That's all.
Now, you can either help me, or you can let innocent people die.
I guess this means I won't be going to Oxford after all.
What are you doing? What does it look like I'm doing? I'm driving.
You got this? I have a class-b truck-driving license.
Do you? What are you doing? Can you get the gate? Yeah, sure, I can get the gate.
What's going on? Where's Dratschev? Change in plans! Those crates are filled with dirty bombs.
Whatever you do, don't get us shot down.
Okay, a superseding objective.
I get it.
But there's one big problem.
I can't carry cargo and passengers.
Get going.
They're almost within range.
Whoa, wait.
Don't we get to vote on this? No! You men make me proud to serve! Godspeed! I'll be in the woods.
I'll bust you out as soon as I can.
She made a choice, Billy.
We didn't really give her one.
Masha! Dratschev, masha had no idea what was going on.
We tricked her.
You expect me to believe that you fooled that girl? Hmm? She's smarter than all of you put together.
No.
She betrayed me.
My own daughter.
Who are you? CIA? What gave us away? Only CIA would be so deceitful.
I trusted you.
I believed you.
That was your mistake.
Don't make a bigger one.
Dial the number of your boss.
Dial it! The rockets are in the air.
Good.
But the ODS are on the ground, stranded.
What's the current status? No word.
It's not good.
Hang on a second.
I've got him.
Sir? No calls.
Sir! No calls! We need to mobilize an extraction for the ODS.
What are the options? Closest special operations group is in ramstein.
Sir What is so hard to understand about "no calls"? It's Alexei Dratschev.
Mr.
Dratschev, this is director Higgins.
Mr.
Higgins, I'm calling to let you know I am holding your four operatives prisoner.
I see.
And what do you want from us? I want what is mine.
Tell the helicopter to turn around and bring back my merchandise.
Well, that might be difficult.
If I executed your men one by one, would it make it less difficult? Well, let me talk to my superiors, and I'll see what I can do.
You got 30 minutes.
And don't send any extra helicopters.
My antiaircraft system is back up.
The rockets are not being returned, so let's start thinking, people.
How long would it take to mobilize and deploy special ops to Transnistria? At least five hours.
This would have to be a land-based assault over rugged terrain.
Close quarters combat most of the way.
Nasty business.
High probability of casualties? You can count on it.
Sir, I have operative malick on the line.
Mmm.
Operative malick, stay calm.
We're planning a rescue operation as we speak.
That's why I'm calling.
Cancel any rescue attempt.
I can handle this myself.
Operative malick, by your estimation, how much security is surrounding Dratschev's compound? He's circled the wagons.
He's got about 20 guards around the perimeter, another half dozen around the house, and an unknown number inside the mansion itself.
And how are you going to overcome that much security on your own? Swiftly and violently.
I'm going to get special ops to start mobilizing.
We can have them ready if we need them.
I wouldn't do that.
Let the ODS do what they do.
They're good.
They'll keep Rick safe.
Rick? All of them.
How do you know? Well, my job is in analysis.
It's body language, sudden concern.
It's the way you say his name.
You at the paperwork stage yet? Not yet, no.
He'll be okay.
Da.
Mr.
Dratschev, we will be sending your rockets back to your estate.
That's good news.
However, it will take a little bit more time to make this happen.
The helicopter has to be refueled and inspected.
I see.
Is this acceptable to you? Perfectly acceptable.
Take your time.
Your boss is stalling.
Putting together rescue effort.
So to move things along to the point where he gives me exactly what I want, regrettably, I have to kill one of you.
Uh I think we jumped a step here.
Aren't you supposed to let them know what your intentions are so that they can concede to your demands? Ah.
Threats are idle.
But, uh, a corpse A corpse gets people's attention.
No.
Wait.
No, no, no, no.
Hold on! Why don't you just tell them that you killed me instead of actually killing me? It'll have the same effect, I promise.
Leave him alone.
I'll go in his place.
That's very noble of you, but trust me, you'll get your turn.
Don't be an idiot, Dratschev.
Take your daughters and run while you still can.
As you well know, I have no place to go.
And then there was cammie, uh, wife numero dos, and she was a hell-raiser.
But we had Larry, and so we stayed together three years longer than we needed to, and Larry's 31 now, and he lives in Seattle, and he's been going to grad school for something like 60 years, and Hey, wait.
Please, just listen, just listen.
I'm just doing this to show you that we're both people, right? And we both live, we both laugh, we both love, and I want to keep doing those things, okay? Damn it, I just got satellite radio, and You don't speak English, do you? No, wait.
Ow! White pain.
Blanke.
Blanke.
I almost died.
I know.
I know.
Listen to me.
You need to focus.
Focus! We are going to need to act very quickly if our plan is going to work.
We have a plan? Your friend is dead.
In a few moments, I will receive confirmation, and I'll send a photo of his body to your superior, and the negotiations will conclude.
New technology has made things so much more efficient.
Oh.
And we're in business.
Da.
Wow.
Sounds like he's not dead after all.
Oh, I assure you, your friend has been shot through the head by now.
Sounds like he escaped to me.
Impossible.
The man that left this room was a coward and an idiot.
Which is exactly what he wanted you to think.
You have no idea who you're dealing with, do you? That man out there is the very best the CIA has to offer.
Your men won't even see him coming until it's too late.
And there's no safety in numbers.
The more the merrier, as far as he's concerned.
The more the merrier, as far as he's concerned.
A true shadow warrior fearless, ruthless.
Trail of bodies in his wake.
He's down.
He's down.
Nice work.
It's over, Dratschev.
One way or another, it's finished.
But we can still get you what you to want.
Safe passage for your daughters.
How can I be sure you're telling the truth? We care about your daughters, too.
They're innocent bystanders in all this.
You'll have to trust us.
It's the only way to protect your girls.
Dratschev! Smart choice.
The alazan rockets have been disposed of, Alexei Dratschev is facing life in prison, and all our operatives returned from the field safely.
Why are you telling me this? I know what happened.
I was there.
I'm telling you this because none of these things would have happened had you not been there.
I'm aware of that also.
You're a good field agent, malick.
You may be the best I've ever seen.
That's a true statement.
And I'd like to acknowledge that.
With this.
Cognac.
Very nice.
What's the catch? I don't expect we'll ever like each other, but I'm hoping that we can arrive at a place of Mutual respect at least in front of the other operatives.
Can you do that for me? I don't think so.
No.
But I'll cherish this.
Will that be all? I suppose it will.
Hey, and if the boiler starts playing out, just, uh, let me know and I'll get a mate to come around and take a look.
Okay.
Listen, I got to go now, masha, so All right.
Enjoy.
Cheers, love.
Bye.
Bye.
What? What do you mean, what? You're totally going to hook up with masha.
She needed somewhere to stay in London.
I happened to have an empty flat.
It's Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Uh, my guess is, you're going to see her in, um, two weeks.
Please.
Three.
Look alive, blanke.
Come on.
Follow us.
What is this place, guys? S.
C.
O.
D.
S.
? That's right.
Special consultant to the ODS.
Welcome aboard.
And welcome to your new office.
Hey! My own phone line.
Oh, there's a dial tone.
Sweet music.
There's a gift from Higgins in the bottom drawer there.
Cognac.
Wow.
How did he know? Man, I could drink a vat of this stuff.
Oh.
Uh, as special consultant, what are my duties going to be? We'll call you.
On your phone.
I'll be waiting.
Does anyone know his extension? I don't believe so.
