This Rock is Going to Roll

1 Previously, on Chesapeake Shores What happened between you and Bree? Bree isn't very good at keeping secrets.
[KEVIN.]
: I saw Danielle come out of a restaurant with some guy.
They seemed close.
I don't want to see you get hurt.
You assume she's cheating on me, and you don't want me to be hurt? David's inviting us to Maine to meet his parents! [ABBY.]
: Do you ever think about what would've happened if I had come back from New York? Something tells me I'd still be here with you.
Robin! What brings you back here? They're gonna renew their vows.
Just seems that after 30 years of trying harder Thanks for the support, Mick.
[.]
Whoo! Grapevine to the right Heel! Grapevine to the left Heel! And heel! And kick.
Ta-dah! Whoo! We end on the right foot.
Oops! My other right foot.
Heh.
- [LAUGHS.]
- Maybe Mom wants to try.
Yeah! Come on! Uh, girls, actually, we need to get going, or you're going to be late for gymnastics.
Boo! Okay.
You know, one of these days, you're gonna run out of excuses, and I'm gonna teach you how to line dance.
Uh, no, but, see, I have years of excuses all stocked up.
[BOTH LAUGHING.]
So, Bree's manuscript getting any easier to read? Uh, it's not so bad for me, but I think it's going to be hard for some of the family.
Anything about me? There is a part about a dashing country line dancer.
Who can't tell his left foot from his right? But his girlfriend's daughters love him anyways.
I can't believe your break is over already.
Well, this time, I won't be gone for so long.
Three weeks, and I'll be touring the mid-Atlantic, so I'll be close to home for a month.
Mm.
It's gonna be tough sharing you.
You could always come with me.
Ah, Trace, I told you, I'm no groupie.
Groupie? I was thinking roadie.
How are you at heavy lifting? I'm very strong.
Let me see.
You are strong.
Actually, I already have a second job.
I am now the new night manager over at Jess's B&B while she's out of town with Bree.
That should be fun for the girls, - kind of like a sleepover.
- Yeah, you should come by.
Say goodnight to the girls, read them a story.
I mean, if you if you if you want to do that.
- You don't have to.
- No, no.
No.
It sounds like fun.
- Yeah? - Yeah.
I mean, it's a lot of work.
Abby I only have three more days at home, and I want to spend every minute of it with you, Carrie, and Caitlyn.
[GIRLS GIGGLING NEARBY.]
Come on.
What? No, no, no! I have a headache! And I need to go to work, and I have to wash my hair Abby, just dance with us, okay? [.]
Let's show her how it's done.
Ready? One, two, three! Heel, heel, toe, toe, toe-toe-toe Slap, slap, grapevine to the right [LAUGHING.]

Doo-de-doo-doo-doo - Hello.
- Don't even think about it.
These belong to our beloved mayor.
Ooh.
What, you gonna throw them at him? Well, only if "killing with kindness" doesn't work.
Gran, I thought you already tried the muffins.
I did.
I baked 'em, he ate 'em, - but this time, it'll cost him.
- [CHUCKLES.]
Has anyone seen my sparkly heels? The ones you can't walk in? Caitlyn was using them for a spaceship.
Check my closet.
So, when are you two leaving for David's? Um, five minutes? Cab's coming to take us to the airport.
- Oh.
- Ooh! They're for the beloved mayor.
Isn't that a bribe? Well, only if I get caught.
Ha.
Cherry red or Kelly green? - Cherry red.
- Kelly green.
Right.
I'll take both.
Are you packed? Yeah.
It's just it's out Never mind, - [CONNOR CHUCKLES.]
- Connor I really appreciate you helping me out with Wordplay, but you don't have to, like, dress up.
Actually, I have, no, I have a date with Danielle after.
Hey, how's that going, by the way? Danielle and I are great.
We're totally great.
Hey, why do they get muffins? Well, Nana plays favorites.
What? [CHUCKLING.]
Farewell, Mother Grandmother, siblings, and the princesses.
I shall be traveling to Maine today to visit the Boston Pecks.
Shouldn't that be "the Maine Pecks"? Ah! Very amusing.
I shall wait outside for moi carriage.
Bree, try and keep Jess relaxed when she meets David's parents.
Well, considering she's not talking to me, I can't guarantee anything.
"Farewell.
" - Tah-tah.
- Bye! And I have got to open Wordplay.
- Goodbye.
- See you later.
Ha! Uh Oh, I love you, Gran.
We're gonna say goodbye, too.
You guys, have fun! - Bye! - My sweet sugar.
- Mm! I love you.
- Love you, too.
Have fun today! You're taking a bottle of wine to Jess's B&B? Uh, yes.
Trace is coming by later to hang out with me and the girls.
They're gonna love that.
Yes, bedtime stories.
It's gonna be fun.
His first time? - Mm-hmm.
- Aww! Bedtime is the last stop before we free our souls to dream.
Wait a second, Gran.
You read Ms.
Marvel's blog? She is a very wise woman.
Well, she's simply marvelous.
You know what else was marvelous? Having Connor swing by today.
Oh, well, that's because Dad is at the B&B with Kevin.
They're running the B&B right now? That can't be going well.
Oh, yes, but Dad said it's okay, because between his experience and Kevin's education, running the B&B will be a piece of cake.
Ah.
[ALL START CRACKING UP.]
I'm not cleaning up.
[.]
So, you and Connor are still not speaking? Ah, not really.
Ever since he moved out, we just haven't seen each other all that much.
Hey, how many teaspoons are in an ounce? Six.
Kevin, you had to tell Connor that you saw Danielle with another guy.
And you better hurry up with those quiches, or that family from Aberdeen's gonna be telling you all about their vacation again.
Don't worry, okay? I've got this.
And I know I had to say something, but that doesn't always make it any easier.
Well, nobody wants to hear what they don't want to hear.
And the Bennetts need more scones.
Seriously? How many scones can one family eat? Even if it's good for them to hear it.
Oh, yeah.
Hey, uh Cilantro and coriander They're the same thing, right? Well, it's the same plant, but coriander comes from the seeds.
You were just looking out for your brother.
I know, but with Connor, it's impossible to know if doing the right thing is helping him - more than hurting him.
- You're only doing for him what you'd want him to do for you.
- Yeah.
- [ALARM BEEPING.]
Oh! God.
[BEEPING.]
You know, I just really need to talk this out with him and clear the air.
I hate having this between us.
Hey, how do you know the difference between coriander and cilantro? Social media.
- - [.]
Hello.
Are summer homes bigger or smaller than winter homes? [BREE.]
: I don't know.
I wasn't talking to you.
- Who was the question for, then? - It was rhetorical.
[BREE.]
: Okay, Jess, I cannot keep apologizing.
Eventually, we have to make up.
I'm fully aware of eventually, but due to the sheer intensity of this situation, which is very intense, I simply need you as my wing woman.
[EXHALING DEEPLY.]
You know, they're just like any other family.
No, they're not.
They're the Boston Pecks.
- They own a little of - Everything.
[BREATHING ANXIOUSLY.]
Okay.
Uh-oh.
Are you freaking out? T Totally.
What if David doesn't feel anything? What if we only have the B&B in common? What if, without the inn, we [.]
David.
[CHUCKLING BREATHLESSLY.]
Um Mom.
Dad, Alex, I'd like you to meet my girlfriend, Jess.
And her sister, Bree.
Welcome to our summer home.
[CHUCKLES AWKWARDLY.]
Thank you.
- Please.
Come on in.
- Okay.
Hi! [.]
- Hello! - There you are.
Uh, just so you know, - we are sold out of Simon Atwater.
- Good.
Gave people a 5% discount if they bought both "Caroline" books.
- Worked like a charm.
- Brilliant.
Oh! I am late.
See ya.
- Bye.
- Mwah! Off to go see Danielle? Oh, come on.
Kevin told you, too? Told me what? Danielle? Dinner with another guy? Oh, no Conn, I didn't know.
Oh.
Then disregard.
Danielle and I are great.
We're totally great.
I'll see you later.
Bye.
[BELL JINGLES AS DOOR CLATTER SHUT.]
[BELL JINGLES.]
Robin! - Hey.
- Hey! I was just out, picking up a few things, before we head to Bali next week, and thought I'd swing by and say hi to Bree.
Oh, you missed her.
I'm filling in for a couple days while she and Jess are out of town.
Aww! Too bad.
- Look at this! - I know! [LAUGHS.]
She's really done a great job with this new place, huh? Mm-hmm.
I talked to Nell.
- Yeah? - Mm-hmm.
Does she still think that Thomas made a mistake marrying me? Mm-hmm.
Great.
How's it been for you, since you've been back here? The truth? Sometimes confusing.
[DRY CHUCKLE.]
Guess I'm still trying to figure out how I fit in.
Well, then I guess things really haven't changed all that much for either one of us, have they? Nope.
[SIGHS.]
You become part of this family, you spend your life trying to crack that O'Brien code.
For better or worse.
Oh, yes.
Ohh I love this.
So do I, but look at this.
[LAUGHING.]
[.]
How lucky am I? On a double date with my beloved Mayor.
[CHUCKLES.]
Muffin? You have three minutes.
I suppose you're here to extend an olive branch? Well, actually I was hoping to declare a victory.
As much as I appreciate your passion for our town You know, Mayor, have I ever told you how our beloved fountain came to be? When Charles took me on a long drive to a really, very special spot You have told me this story - about 20 times, Nell.
- Oh But the fountain's going to be torn down for the city hall expansion, whether you like it or not.
The decision's been made.
Well, minds can be changed, and I'm not stopping until I change yours.
Or until the wish fountain's gone.
[.]
[DICE RATTLE.]
Five.
Chute! One, two, three, four Oh! [DICE RATTLE.]
Ladder! I'm at 99.
You guys are killing me.
[ABBY, CHUCKLING.]
: All right, girls.
It is bedtime.
But we haven't finished the game yet.
Well, we will put it up on the counter, and we can finish it tomorrow night.
All right.
Teeth, and then bedtime story.
Will you read to us, Trace? Of course.
Come on.
There is no way anyone could hit so many ladders without cheating.
Well, if it makes you feel any better, - they've never lost a game.
- It doesn't.
But, besides that, this is going well.
Yeah.
How are you doing? Abby, this is great.
We're ready! I got this.
[TRACE, CHUCKLING.]
: Come on.
Mom makes silly faces, Dad makes funny voices.
And Grandpa does both.
[.]
We're on chapter three.
Okay Now, I could read this book to you, or I could tell you all about snipes.
What are those? A snipe is a mythical and mischievous little creature who lives in the woods and shimmers and sparkles in the light.
Have you ever seen one? As a matter of fact, I have, but only once, when I was just about your age.
So do you wanna hear the story? [BOTH.]
: Yeah! Okay.
Well, one late afternoon, I believe it was a Wednesday, I was walking through the woods, and there was a really eerie fog kinda rolling through, and I could I could hear something Make a wish.
But it already came true.
[GIGGLES.]
I missed you.
Really? Yeah.
When we didn't talk for three days, I thought you forgot about me.
Me, too.
So what's up with you and Bree? [SIGHS.]
That's just it.
The book wasn't about me, exactly But, some parts were just like looking in the mirror, and I just I didn't like what I saw.
Well, I'm looking at you And you look beautiful.
Everything you do just makes every day an adventure.
But without you, it's not as much fun anymore.
There's no one to make birthday cakes for no reason.
I snuck off between calls to Miami and New York.
I should [DEEP BREATH.]
One more time.
[LAUGHS.]
Seriously? Seriously.
Ahem.
Okay.
Ahem.
Make a wish.
It already came true.
[.]
[ABBY.]
: All right, let's reconvene in an hour.
Thank you very much.
Is this the Leiter-Norse pharmaceutical merger? Uh, it is, hi.
From what I read, those guys really hate each other.
Well, you are reading the same things that I am.
You came to Baltimore to bring me breakfast? No, no, I have three meetings in my office, and I thought I'd kill two birds with one scone.
It's a Dad joke.
Actually, it's quiche.
- And who made this? - Oh, Kevin did.
I draw the line at making quiche.
Carrie told me they're learning about Snipes.
Yes! And Trace put them to bed last night, and they fell asleep to him singing a lullaby.
Oh, I used to love doing that with you guys.
I remember.
[EXHALES DEEPLY.]
Dad, you know you can call Connor.
Oh, I think we're a little bit past lullabies now, honey.
Well? I actually have to eat it? Oh, yeah.
[CHUCKLES, THEN GRUMBLES.]
Oh! That's That's worse than his macaroni and meatballs.
I know! Right? That's what I thought.
- He's really awful.
- He's a terrible cook! Why did you bring this to me? [MR.
PECK.]
: So David tells us that you run an inn? [CLEARING HER THROAT.]
Yes.
I do an inn.
Although I prefer to call it an auberge.
C'est très exclusif.
C'est magnifique! Vous parlez français? Mm-hmm.
Nous préférons parler français seulement en France, la pays de sa naissance.
You prefer to speak French only in France, the country of its birth? Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Je comprends parfaitement.
We'll just speak English then.
Delightful.
I'm glad you're feeling better, Mr.
Peck.
Oh, please, call me Dennis, and thank you.
I'm uh, I'm very glad that the two of you were able to make it.
David, your mother and I are off to the club, and you, you have your London call.
- Have a nice day.
- Bye.
I have to go to play adult.
Play adult? My family has board seats on five high-tech companies, so it's a lot of overseas calls, but we'll talk later? [QUIETLY.]
: It's going really well, right? It's going amazing.
Okay.
Nell, I've never seen anybody work so hard at a marriage.
30 years, they've been trying.
And now they've finally decided to spend more time together, in the same city.
Well, it's their life, and all I want is for my son and his wife to be happy.
I know you do.
They're not giving up Reminds me of someone else I know.
Oh, ho.
Thank you, darling.
Uh, I'll take three lunch specials with fries, extra ketchup, and three brownies.
Thanks.
Hungry? [LAUGHS.]
Nah, it's for Carrie and Caitlyn.
I'm watching them this afternoon.
- Oh, nice.
- Yeah.
I can imagine it must be hard going back out on the road? You have no idea.
Actually, I do.
It was always the day before deployment that was the hardest.
I would just spend every second soaking it in.
And the longer you're away, the more you miss it.
Yeah.
[CHUCKLES.]
It's funny, because, at first, I just couldn't wait to get away from everything, but now that school's done, I'm just hoping I can find a job somewhere close.
Yeah it's hard to leave Sally's.
[TOGETHER.]
: The pastrami Reuben! Yeah.
Thanks.
Here you go.
Keep the change.
- Good to see you.
- Yeah.
I will have every pie that you have left.
Hungry? [LAUGHS.]
Yeah! [CONNOR.]
: Have a good day.
Hey.
Heard you were here.
You're spying on me now? [SCOFFS.]
What do you want? I don't know.
I just thought that maybe I should come apologize.
I never should've gotten involved in your life.
Thank you.
You know, it's just sometimes, as your brother, I have to Whoa.
Whoa, whoa.
Don't do that.
You're not planning on apologizing, then letting me know you'd do it again, are you? I was just explaining why I did it.
Well, it sounds like you're about to justify it, which really doesn't make this an apology, does it? Connor, I was just looking out for you! Oh, right.
Kevin, "my brother's keeper," making sure I know what my girlfriend's doing at all hours of the day.
[SIGHS, FRUSTRATED.]
That is completely unfair.
And you know that.
What I know is that you're wrong about Danielle, and you obviously have no idea how to apologize.
Yeah, at least I came down here and I tried.
What, is that supposed to make it all better? Well, it certainly doesn't make things worse! Is that what you think? You pull me aside in a public place, assume that my girlfriend's cheating on me, and, what, you want me to thank you? - That's not even remotely what I want.
- Good! The next time you come to apologize, prepare an apology.
It might help.
Because I don't need your justifications, and I certainly don't need your sympathy! [.]
[CAITLYN.]
: Come on, let's go find a Snipe.
[CARRIE.]
: Caitlyn, you can only find Snipes in the woods.
Then let's go to the forest.
[TRACE.]
: Why don't we play around here instead? You know, we could collect some seashells or something.
- Or we could have a race! - The last one in the water - Wait for me! - Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Slow down! Hey, wait for me.
Stop! Why don't we stay a little further up on the beach, okay? But Dad lets us play in the water whenever we want.
I'm sure he does, but the waves are really big today, and the undertow's really strong.
But we always go by ourselves.
Sorry, not today.
That's not fair.
I know, but it's not safe, either.
Let's just do something else.
Fine, but it's not like you're our dad.
Come on, let's go eat some brownies.
Oh.
Working on your book? David mentioned you're a novelist.
Uh, well, does it count if it hasn't officially been published yet? - [LAUGHS.]
- Uh, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to interrupt.
I didn't realize anyone was in here.
What's it about? Uh, it's about a river trip and a ranch in Colorado and woman in New York, but, really, it's more about a messed-up family and a woman trying to make sense of it all.
It draws some parallels to my own family.
[BOTH CHUCKLING.]
Well, no family is more messed up than mine.
My parents wrote the book on being disappointed by your children, which is why I hide in here.
Ah, it's a nice place to hide.
It was my safe place when my parents would yell at David.
I used to run to a bookstore near my house.
It seems like they're pretty happy with him now, though? "Seems like" is what my parents do best.
The one thing you need to know about my parents is the truth is almost always the exact opposite.
What do you mean? This weekend has nothing to do with getting to know Jess.
[.]
Yeah, so my brother, Craig, called me because my dad got a ticket for jaywalking, and he wanted to fight it.
Was he guilty? Well, yeah! Totally! I mean, his argument was that he crossed the same street, the same way, every day for the last 40 years.
That's smart! Establishing a precedent? Exactly, there's nothing like admitting to a judge that you're a repeat offender.
Hey, Danielle.
I gotta ask you something.
Um You're not seeing someone else, are you? I'm so sorry.
I shouldn't have asked you that.
Or maybe I should have.
Connor Do you remember Davis? That guy from undergrad? Yeah Your your ex-boyfriend.
Last week, we had dinner.
Okay, so you had dinner.
Are you seeing him? Connor, if you want me to apologize for having dinner No, no.
Hey, Danielle.
Come on, you saying you had dinner with an old boyfriend is one thing, but you're not answering my question.
- At least I deserve that.
- It's just It's complicated.
What's complicated? My question's complicated, or what you're about to tell me is complicated? Please don't lawyer me, okay? I really don't like being cross-examined.
I'm not, I just I want to figure out what's going on.
That's just it.
I I don't know.
I I don't know how I feel.
About me? Yeah, about you And about him, and mostly about me.
Connor, I really like you, it's just that I don't know.
[STAMMERS.]
There's something Not right? Yeah.
Why didn't you tell me? You could've told me.
I know.
I think I just have to figure it out on my own.
I'm really sorry, Connor.
Hey! Sally's only had six pies left They had three apple, a peach, rhubarb, and banana cream, so we should be all good for wine-and-cheese hour.
Great! - You were right, by the way.
- About what? Oh, just about talking when there's no reason to talk.
There's no point.
You and Connor? Yeah, so much for taking the high road.
Ahh I'm sorry, Kevin.
You know, I apologized to him, and he literally just threw it in my face.
Yeah, I always have found that apologies don't work unless a person wants to accept it.
Yeah, well, I'm done saying sorry.
So if this is the way things are between me and Connor, then fine.
When did you learn how to bake? I told you.
I'm a contractor.
Hey! Jess, wait up.
Um, hey, has David talked about coming back with you? Yes, he's just looking for the right time - to tell his parents.
- Okay, but does he think that his parents are gonna be okay with it? Why wouldn't they be? It's why they invited me here, they wanted to meet me before David left.
Seriously, how cute is this outfit? Okay, never mind the outfit.
I just talked to Alexandra, who is super-lovely, by the way, um, and she said that it is not an accident, that you're here, that you're not here just to meet them That they are planning something.
I know a party.
Jess, you're not listening.
Because I don't need to! They wouldn't be inviting me to play a few "chukkas" of croquet if they were planning to do anything to me.
Bree, not everything in life is like your novel.
Not everyone is capable of backstabbing betrayal.
Okay, Jess.
In my novel, Kacie, who you are not, has one tragic flaw Because she's been hurt by the people she loves the most.
When people hurt her, she shuts them out.
Okay, I'm not shutting you out.
Because you're not Kacie! I am! Jessica, there you are.
Meet us at the east stables.
Is David coming? He'll be on a call.
It'll be just us.
Sounds delightful.
And Jess, "chukkas" is polo.
What? Oh Hi! [HORSE SNORTS.]
[.]
So I heard you told Carrie and Caitlyn about snipe hunting? How do you know about snipes? And don't tell me it's because you're a contractor.
Oh, no.
Snipes, 1840s, created by a Dr.
Steven McLean.
He had a summer camp in the Adirondacks.
I took Kevin snipe-hunting once, when he was a kid.
He was out there for three hours searching for mythical creatures.
- [LAUGHS.]
Well-played.
- Thank you.
- Cheers.
- Cheers.
[CLACK.]
Mick, don't take this the wrong way, but you've really mellowed out since I was in high school.
[CHUCKLES.]
Maybe.
Or maybe it's just that the kids got older, and things got a little easier.
And when it wasn't easier? Well, you just You just keep moving forward, keep trying, and hope that the next day's gonna be better.
Thanks, Mick.
For what? For the beer.
Trace, don't take this the wrong way, but, um, you've actually mellowed out since high school, too.
[LAUGHS.]
You're definitely right about that.
[CARRIE.]
: We couldn't go on a snipe hunt since there's no such thing as swimming snipes.
- [ABBY.]
: Oh - And there was an undertow.
And Trace said we couldn't play.
But Dad lets us.
Well, it was probably a good thing you didn't.
But we can swim.
And Trace isn't our dad.
Well, yeah, I know that, but But I guess undertows are bad.
Yeah, did you Did you talk to Trace about not being your dad? Yeah, but then we went inside and had our brownies.
And they were really good.
[KISSES.]
[BELL JINGLES.]
You're late.
Oh, yeah, sorry.
I had to blow off some steam.
Hey, do you mind taking my shift? I've got to go see Danielle.
[SIGHS.]
Is everything all right? Yeah, Danielle and I are great.
We're totally great.
Are you okay? Because you keep saying those exact same words.
[SIGHS.]
Well, I have to convince Danielle that we're great.
Ah.
Tsk.
Conn Ever since you were little, you've had this great gift You could convince anyone of anything.
[LAUGHS.]
Your Dad and I used to laugh, because every time you got in trouble in school, you always managed to find a way out.
Remember third grade? You managed to convince your entire class that your teacher was an alien.
Mrs.
Spelling? She was definitely an alien.
[SIGHS.]
Honey Just because you can convince others of something doesn't mean you have to work so hard trying to convince yourself.
If it's not right with you and Danielle Trust me Don't pretend it is.
You deserve amazing.
Thanks, Mom.
Mm.
[.]
I hope you're having a good time, Jessica.
Oh, yes.
Just delightful.
I didn't know that horses were so Big.
And fast.
[LAUGHS.]
They're deceiving.
Mm-hmm.
I'm sorry that you haven't been able to see much of David, considering.
No, that's okay.
So, I thought I would take you to see him now.
He's working in the office.
Oh, I'd like that.
So, what does David actually do at your auberge? Well, a lot of everything, actually.
He, um, he helps out with the gardening and housekeeping and cooking, of course.
Sounds like he does it all.
He can, and he does.
I don't really know how He's taught me a lot.
Well, he did go to Lawrenceville and Harvard.
Mm.
Don't forget le Cordon Bleu.
Well, yes, there's that.
So, what is his speciality for breakfast? Oh, David makes the best quiche in the whole world.
Quiche? That's quite impressive.
[DAVID.]
: The singularity comes with two implications, both based on exponential progressions, not linear.
I'm proposing a four-fold increase in capital expenditure based on biological and hardware advances.
So tell me a little bit more about this quiche.
[WORDS CATCHING.]
Jessica, are you okay? [.]
Mr.
Mayor I'm not going to tell you again how important this fountain is to me.
Good, because it didn't work.
But let me explain why the fountain is so important to you.
Nell what's your point? The wish fountain isn't about my past, it's not about your past.
It's for all the people who come here and toss in a coin, to make a wish for a better future.
It's about hopes, it's about dreams.
It's a place of wishes, possibilities, and if we take it away from them, then what do they have left? I still don't know what this has to do with me.
Well My husband, Charles, and my son, Mick, they played a big, important role in developing Chesapeake Shores.
Now, I know you don't want to talk to me, but do you really want to battle all the people in this town who were involved in building it? You know, maybe, especially in an election year, this might really be a good time to make a wish, Mr.
Mayor.
[MAYOR SIGHS.]
What did you wish for? Well That the fountain would always be a part of Chesapeake Shores.
[.]
[SIGHING HEAVILY.]
[.]
Yes! So I basically spent the entire day trying to convince these two C.
E.
O.
s who hate each other that they should merge their companies and spend the next 20 years being profitable together.
How'd that go? [CHUCKLES.]
Well, they can agree on one thing.
They hate each other equally.
[LAUGHS.]
Sounds like progress.
Mm-hmm.
[SIGHING DEEPLY.]
Hey, Trace? Um, I know what the girls said to you last night.
What do you mean? About you not being their dad.
Abby, it wasn't a big deal.
I feel like it was, and I'm sorry that they said that to you.
It's fine.
It's what they were feeling.
And considering everything I get it.
It's got to be confusing for them.
Yeah.
I think we're all just trying to figure out how this works.
[.]
[KNOCKS.]
[SOBBING.]
Quiche is so beneath him.
What? I can't believe he would ever choose quiche.
Okay, so we're talking again? Okay, I'm not saying I forgive you, but this house is full of Pecks and I need an O'Brien right now, and you're the best one to talk to Well, at least in the top two, most of the time.
It's all a mess.
And your book, which, clearly, I didn't understand No, I think you understood it perfectly.
But Kacie's you, and I thought she was me, because - She kind of is.
- Because, Jess We both had somebody leave us.
[JESS SNIFFLES.]
So we're both Kacie.
We can share Kacie.
Yeah, or maybe neither of us are.
We've both grown so much.
I mean, Jess, look at you.
I'm sorry I got so mad at you.
I think I'm just more mad at myself because I didn't even think about what you lost.
Thank you.
Do you know what, though? Kacie isn't nearly as amazing as Jess O'Brien.
Just ask David Peck.
[LAUGHS.]
You know what? Kacie isn't nearly as amazing as Bree O'Brien.
Just ask Simon Atwater.
Oh! Come on.
I don't even know where that's at.
Do you know what, though? We shouldn't be giving anybody the power to tell us how amazing we are.
We are amazing because we're amazing! No matter what anybody says! Right? - Right.
- Yeah.
Amazing? - Quiche.
- What? No.
No, no.
The quiche! No, David.
David runs million-dollar companies.
He uses words like "singularity" and "exponential" and "conglomerates," and he talks to Paris and Berlin And he loves you.
[WHIMPERS SOFTLY.]
[BREE LAUGHS.]
One more thing.
All right.
Olive oil? I couldn't find a branch.
[STARTS LAUGHING.]
Are you going to make a wish? As a matter of fact, I am.
Well, here.
Thank you.
[COINS SPLASHING.]
What did you wish for? Understanding.
Nell, I don't have a problem Well, now, honestly, this wish isn't for you, it's for me.
Robin I, uh I really want to say that I'm sorry.
All my life, I've been fighting for what I believe in, I've been fighting to save my family, to keep 'em together, and, sometimes, I forget to ask myself what is best for other people.
So, you don't think that we're making a mistake, renewing our vows? Well people have to find their own way.
All of us.
I'm still trying to find mine! [CHUCKLING.]
And I think that you and Thomas, you have to find your own path.
But I do have one little, bitty request Weddings are all about family, and I think that you and Thomas should be with yours.
We would love to renew our vows here, Nell.
Oh, Robin! Oh, bless you.
Oh, bless you, child.
- Bless you.
- Yes.
[.]
Hey, Danielle? Do you have a second? Connor, what are you doing here? I was in the neighborhood.
Okay, I wasn't remotely in the neighborhood, but I wanted to talk to you one more time.
And the truth is, I had this entire speech planned to convince you that we're great together, that you should give us another shot.
But, hey, Danielle Look.
You've been a good friend You've been a great friend.
But I realized, you know, with everything that's been going on, you know, my dad and Uncle Thomas I think I just Wanted something stable, and maybe I pushed too hard, too fast, and that wasn't fair.
It's fine, Connor.
The truth is I don't even know where we are, but what I do know is that I want you to be happy.
Well, yeah, I mean, I want you to be happy, too.
And I get what we need to do, and whatever happens after I just want you to know, I'm okay with that.
Thank you.
[LAUGHS.]
Who knows, right? Yeah.
So I guess I'll see you around? I hope so.
See you.
[.]
Bree, I, uh, talked to Steve Kennedy today.
From Harper Day? Yes, the, uh, the Editor-in-Chief.
We've known each other forever.
He asked me to wish you well, he's very excited about your novel.
Oh.
That is exciting.
You must be very proud, Jessica.
My sister is a very talented writer.
Alexandra? David? I would like to thank both of you for helping me with the company these past few months.
Your-Your work has been a tremendous asset to me and to Peck Enterprises while I was ill.
Thank you.
So I think the time feels right, amongst family and friends, to finally do the right thing for the company and this family.
Good luck running the company.
Well deserved, sis.
[QUIET CHUCKLE.]
David, you are the new C.
E.
O.
of Peck Enterprises.
You're kidding me.
Not in front of the guests.
Dad, we talked about this.
No need to discuss it now.
You should discuss is with Jessica.
I know you'll do what's best for you and the family.
Ahem.
You know, I read Bree's first play, Meditations From the Second Floor The ending is so poetic.
Oh, well, thank you so much.
Not very many people understand it.
Yeah, that's what makes it so great The lack of pretension and calculation.
Well I can't wait to eat.
Jessica and I were bonding this afternoon while David was at work, and it inspired tonight's dinner menu.
Quiche.
So, what are we doing? We are waiting for the rest of our hunting party.
And there they are! So, what are we doing? Carrie already asked that.
Oh.
Did you get an answer? No.
Grandpa? Don't look at me.
I just own the joint.
No idea.
Well, since this is my last day in town before I head back to tour And since you girls are about to go spend the week with your dad, we wanted to do something very special.
[MICK.]
: So we consulted the Creature Almanac.
And it turns out this is the perfect afternoon For snipe-hunting! [LOUD CHEERING.]
- Not again.
- Yes, again.
- Throw me a snipe caller! - Ta-dah! Nice throw, Mom.
Mick? You want to do the honors? Oh, I do, I do! Let the snipe hunt begin! Come on, girls! [WHISPERING.]
: Okay, now, listen, let's stick together this time.
Yeah, but that's what you said last time, Dad, and then I Come on, snipes! Yoo-hoo! Snipes! Yoo-hoo! So girls are going to Wes's for the week? Yeah.
[TAKES A BREATH.]
: And My two C.
E.
O.
s who hate each other are suddenly best friends.
Seems like you might have some extra time, then.
Yes.
Seems so.
I'm not ready to say goodbye yet.
Well, maybe we don't have to.
Come on! [MARACAS SHAKING.]
