Close to Home (2005) s01e05 Episode Script

104 - Romeo and Juliet Murders

Close to Home Season one Episode five Listen,it's not what it looks like.
Really? 'Cause it looks to me like oxyciterol, son.
You know what we call oxy? Hillbilly heroin.
Now, do you kids crush it up and snort it, or do you take yours whole? Those are just samples, like-like you get at a doctor's office.
Our dad's a pharmaceutical rep.
You know, this isn't gonna go away just because I can't find your parents tonight.
We-we told you, our-our mom and dad are in europe.
It's their 20th anniversary.
They took a second honeymoon, and no kids.
And they didn't give you a way to contact them in case of an emergency? Yeah, we have, like, their whole itinerary taped on the fridge.
Can't we just pay a fine or something? Detective branch? I don't think pharmaceutical reps deal in ecstasy.
It hasn't been approved by the fda.
I don't know who brought that stuff to the party, but it's not mine or tracy'S.
You know we're going to have to take you kids into custody.
Oh, my god.
Okay.
Okay, 2:00 o'clock is great.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
since haley's six-month checkup is only two weeks away, dr.
Vargas wants me to bring her into his office this afternoon, so he can take a look at that runny nose, just to be on the safe side.
How'd you make a doctor's appointment this early? I called him at home.
And how'd you get dr.
Vargas's home number? The police.
The police department tracked down our pediatrician at 7:00 in the morning? Honey, this job doesn't pay worth a crap.
There's got to be one or two benefits.
oh, I'm sorry, sweetie.
I'm sorry.
Where are you with the mason plea bargain in the rinaldo case? Good morning, maureen.
How was your weekend? Fine, thank you.
Plea bargain, rinaldo? Mason's cooked, paperwork should be in your box, and the rinaldo case is postponed pending a change of venue.
Great.
Steve and I need you to handle a drug arraignment this afternoon.
I have to take haley to the pediatrician at 2:00.
If this is a family emergency, and your baby's sick, then go home and take care of her.
Otherwise it's not an emergency.
Haley's got a cold, and it's her six-month checkup, and I really want to take her to the pediatrician.
OKay,all right.
You're-you're absolutely right.
I will reschedule,or I'll get jack to take her.
Who's my defendant? It's your lucky day.
You get two count them, two defendants for the price of one.
Scott fields, high school senior, busted for alcohol and drugs, pissing off his neighbors for throwing a huge, honking party, and contributing to the delinquency of many, many minors, including his little sister tracy, who just turned 16.
What kind of drugs and what quantities are we looking at? On the prescription front, we found over two dozen samples of oxiciterol.
That will mellow out your party.
Their father's a salesman for ambrose pharmaceuticals, right? Did they sell the drugs or give them away to friends? Either way, it's distributing narcotics to minors.
On the non-prescription front,we confiscated your run-of-the-mill rave supplies a half-ounce of pot,ten tabs of x,no priors, no attempt to conceal.
What do their parents have to say? Their parents are in europe.
Who's watching the kids? Nobody.
Nobody? Friends check in,and an uncle drops by, but basically, they're on their own.
I bet they're popular.
Perfect time to break into dad's sample cases, open up a drug store.
We've had them in custody since saturday night.
The clock is ticking.
We either need to charge them or let them go.
Charge them as adults.
Oxy's a class c felony.
I hate to level such serious charges without their parents' knowledge.
Here's the thing.
Mom and dad's cell phones don't work in europe, and they're not due back for a few weeks.
If this were a poor kid caught with a vial of crack, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
I want to send a message to my friends in the upper middle-class suburbs.
When it comes to drugs, I'm an equal opportunity hard ass.
Charge 'em.
Okay.
You better try to find their uncle or another close relative to attend the arraignment.
If the judge agrees to grant bail, somebody's going to need to take custody and keep these two on a really short leash.
In other words, no more parties.
They are grounded for life.
honey, take it easy.
All right? It's just a checkup.
I know, but I just rescheduled with the pediatrician this morning so I could take her in at lunch, and now, of course, I can't, and haley's got a runny nose.
So, what do you want to do about it? - Are you sure you can't take her? - The job site's an hour from indy, and I've got the building inspector coming this afternoon.
Why don't you have your mother take her? Because my mother is A is a drama queen and a total hypochondriac.
so, that's where you get it from.
Shut up.
You want to have phone sex? Good-bye, honey.
Bye.
oh god.
What do you mean, the state can't find their parents? Mr.
And mrs.
Fields are in europe, your honor, and at this point, no other relatives have come forward.
Then we'll need to appoint a guardian ad litem in her stead.
Judge, can I just say that my sister had nothing to do with this? Mr.
Fields, did I ask you a question? No, sir? Then be quiet.
She doesn't even drink.
Given the fact that there are no responsible adults to take custody, enter a plea, or even discuss bail, the people recommend that tracy fields be remanded to a juvenile group home.
Can't you just let tracy go? I keep telling you people that this whole party was my idea.
Mr.
Fields,if I hear one more peep out of you, you will be in lockup for the next 90 days, and then,we'll set your arraignment date.
Excuse me,your honor.
Sir, I'm william fields.
I'm their uncle.
please don't tell mom and dad.
This is exactly what I was afraid of.
I told your parents not to leave you two alone.
Uncle bill,we're so sorry.
Mr.
Fields.
You need to make sure your niece and nephew show up for their next hearing.
The judge is going to be inclined to take these charges seriously.
You really have to prosecute this? I mean, isn't there some sort of deal to be made? They're just 16 and 17.
They're really good kids.
The police are still investigating.
There's narcotics involved, and we will be prosecuting.
It's not like we're dealers or anything.
Some messed up kid just got into our dad's sample cases.
The best advice I can give you is to get a good lawyer.
Thank you, ma'am.
We'll do that.
What in holy hell has gotten into you two, huh? What were you thinking? Are you aware that this could cost your father his job? Never mind jail.
They'll fire him for letting those samples get out to kids.
oh, hey, maureen.
Just trying to call your office.
The fields kids gave me a copy of their parents' travel itinerary.
George, that's annabeth's case.
Well, let her know mr.
And mrs.
Fields never got to europe.
Come again.
According to their travel plans, they supposedly flew out two weeks ago.
They haven't checked in to a single hotel.
I had my guys check with customs.
They never left the country.
You better put out an apb on these people.
I already have.
Great.
Thanks.
I'll let annabeth know.
Hi.
I, uh, need a credit report for roger and mimi fields.
Yes.
I'm trying to locate roger fields.
No, no.
It's-it's fields, as in, uh uhsnowy fields.
F-I-e-l-d-S.
Snow fields.
Who are these people, where are these people, and why have they left their kids alone for the past two weeks? By all accounts, mr.
And mrs.
Fields are good parents.
Active in the pta, kids involved in youth groups, sports, drama club.
Do you think they're running away from something? uh, they both, uh,have solid work histories.
No chapter elevens or pressing debt.
I got to take this.
It's my mother.
She took haley to the pediatrician for me this afternoon.
Runny nose.
Mom.
Hey, I'm in a meeting.
How did everything go? That dr.
Vargas is the nicest, -most competent pediatrician.
-Um, okay.
What did he say? Haley's fine.
She's perfectly healthy.
She's cutting a tooth.
Yes, she is, but, of course, you already knew that.
She is?She's cutting her first tooth? Sure.
That's why her nose is so runny.
Oh, why would cutting a tooth give her a runny nose? Well, you know, I don't know.
It just-just does.
It always did with my kids.
But everything else is good, right? Everything's fine.
She'S oh, she's such a little love.
Okay.
Thanks, mom.
I got to go.
Do you think mr.
Fields is knowingly supplying his kids with drugs? Uh I doubt it.
Uh th-they ran blood tests after they busted the party, and neither tracy or scott tested positive.
Also, uh, the the police searched the kids' lockers at high school today, and came up empty-handed.
We could make a case for distributing oxy, but it's going to be difficult to prove intent to sell.
I'm gonna turn this off.
I knew you'd still be here.
It's good to know I'm not the only person in town without a personal life.
We should have an affair, 'cause neither of us have anything going on besides this.
how can I help you, detective? The M.
E.
Called.
He thinks he might have found our missing parents, and they're not on vacation.
Want me to call annabeth? no.
I'll cover this.
Her baby's sick.
Let her spend time with her family.
Caucasian male and female,mid-to-late 40s.
When the fax machine spit out your apb, I thought john and jane doe here just might be your mr.
And mrs.
Fields.
Same height, same race, same facial structure and wedding rings on.
Who found the bodies? Hikers with a curious labrador retriever.
The victims were killed someplace else.
They were buried in a shallow grave.
Whoever put them here was in a hurry to cover them up.
You okay? I love this job.
You want some water? How long ago were they killed? Based on a visual, the bodies, and the crime scene I'm guessing they've been here for two weeks, tops.
Shot in the head.
Yeah, they each took one to the body and one to the skull.
That's not murder,that's execution.
They were assassinated.
Mr.
Fields was a pharmaceutical rep, right? Yeah.
Maybe he was making a little money on the side.
Drug killings.
Method of death makes sense.
hello? Annabeth? Maureen? What's wrong? I, uh, just thought you'd want to know your drug case just became a double homicide.
Oh, my god.
Mr.
And mrs.
Fields are dead.
I don't understand, what happened? Their bodies were found in a remote location.
We matched their dental records.
Dear god how did it happen? They were shot.
Murdered? Why wouldwhy would anybody do that? We don't know.
But the manner of death suggests that someone had a reason to kill them.
Could this have anything to do with the drugs we found? No.
No, that was just a stupid party.
Is there anything you can tell us? Anyone who might have had a grudge against them? A reason to want your parents dead? Everyone loved them.
Tracy, there was that guy.
Scott.
Dad had this friend, roy, he would come by late at night every few months.
He'd never come in the house, they'd just go straight in the garage.
Where your dad kept his pharmacy supplies? He had boxes of samples in there.
A lot of times, after roy would come over, we'd go out and splurge on a fancy dinner.
Ruth chris or something.
Wait a minute, wait a minute, that's not possible.
Roger was not a drug dealer.
There's no possible way.
The last time roy came by, he and dad got in a big fight.
They were yelling and screaming, but I couldn't hear about what.
When was this? The night before mom and dad left for europe.
Scott, what are you saying? I'm just trying to help, uncle bill.
I'm just I'm just trying Tracywere you there that night? Did you see this man, too? I can't believe this is happening.
If we were to sit you down with a sketch artist, do you think you could fully describe this roy person? Yes.
Miss chase? Listen, my brother the straightest arrow I know.
He sold pharmaceuticals to doctors to heal people, not to get them high.
The crime scene investigators are going to need full access to the house.
We'll help any way we can.
We found blood on the floor of the master bedroom, traces of blood on the walls and the curtains.
There's no evidence of a break in, no signs of struggle.
Which narrows it down to family members, close friends, and this alleged drug dealer "roy.
" Who the police have so far been unable to find.
Somebody washed the walls down with bleach and repainted during the last two weeks.
So the parents went to europe when? Almost two weeks ago, saturday the 15th.
The M.
E.
Says they were murdered when? On or about friday the 14th.
And the kids say that their father had a run in with this drug dealer when? Same exact time frame.
So, what do you think? As in, did some shady roy person kill mr.
And mrs.
Fields in their bedroom, get rid of the bodies, come back, wash down the room and repaint? I think not.
Two people living in that house, why paint unless you're trying to cover something up? For my money, we amend the drug charges and arrest the kids for murder.
No, don't arrest them.
If they're willing to help us find the real killers, why should we stand in their way? Keep them talking.
Keep them friendly.
If you charge them now, they'll just pull a menendez and lawyer up.
We just want to glean all the useful information we can to help find whoever killed your mom and dad, so we're going to question you separately, just to see if anything jogs your memory.
Okay.
You have a right not to answer our questions, and you also have a right for an attorney to be present.
no, no, nobody wants a damn lawyer.
We'll do anything we can to help.
I mean, my god, we just want to find out who killed my brother and his wife.
So let me get this straight.
You didn't notice that your mom and dad's room had been painted? No.
Ilook, we weren't all in each other's business.
They had their world,we had ours.
"Ours?" You know, uh, separate worlds, parents and kids.
So you didn't notice the blood? There's no blood in there.
Someone washed the room with bleach, repainted, and spackled.
The blood is still very much there unlike this druggie,"roy," you keep telling us about.
See, there is blood, there's just no roy.
I want a lawyer.
Excuse me? You heard what I said.
I want a lawyer.
Why don't I talk to your uncle? I don't give a crap what my uncle bill says.
I'm not saying another word without a lawyer.
I don't know what happened to my mom and dad.
And I don't want to get scott in trouble.
He's already in trouble, and so are you.
He just wanted to protect me is all.
Protect you from what? I loved my dad.
But sometimes, when he took pills or got drunkhe used to try to do things to me.
He used to do dirty things to scott, too.
But then, as we got older, and scott could fight him off,it sort of stopped.
That weekend that friday night the 14th? Daddy came to my room and he started touching me under the covers.
And I started screaming.
And he grabbed my neck to shut me up.
Right here.
Likelike he was choking me.
Scott came in and pulled him off, and daddy punched him, and he punched him back.
My mom came in,and everybody was just screaming, so I took off.
I went to my friend megan's house and stayed the night.
And when I came back home on sunday, I justmom and dad were gone.
Honestly, II was relieved.
But I didn't want this.
Did you see scott kill your parents? No.
Did you hear the shots? No.
But I knew.
I just knew.
Judge watkins was kind enough to sign a whole stack of warrants and subpoenas.
Just fill in the blanks for internet, chat rooms, home phone and cell phones.
Let's review the timeline.
Thursday, october 13th, was the last time anyone saw roger and mimi fields alive.
Their bodies were found on october 24th.
We believe they were killed on friday the 14th.
Oh, and just for the record, scott has an un-excused absence from school that friday and the following monday.
That gives him plenty of time to dispose of the bodies and clean up the bedroom.
-What about tracy? -She was in school.
Okay, people, lets prove or discredit these abuse allegations, and check tracy's alibi.
George, have your guys follow up with the kids' school their friends, doctors, therapists, emergency room visits.
You got it.
Annabeth, we need a sidebar.
Look, I know this was your case to begin with, but maureen's the senior prosecutor, I'm going to need you to work together on this.
There's more than enough murder to go around.
I want you to liaison with the family, let the uncle know about the change in direction.
I don't want him blindsided by these accusations.
Your nephew has refused to answer any more questions without a lawyer.
Why? We believe it's because tracy has provided us with a possible motive for the murders of your brother and sister-in-law.
She's alleging that both she and scott were sexually abused.
By who? By your brother.
That's preposterous.
Please, tell me you're not going to go out and start telling people this.
Do not smear my brother's name.
Tracy's made honor roll every semester.
Scott's grades,they are not good.
She loves reading, drama club.
He's troubled, to put it mildly.
She almost has straight a'S.
Although her grades have started to fall off this semester.
Just an awful lot of learning and behavioral issues.
Tracy has come to see me twice this semester about being bruised on her neck and arms.
In the back of my mind, I suspected she may have been hurt in more private places.
Did she tell you that? No.
If she did,I would have reported it.
Did she tell you who hurt her? No.
She said her dad did something and she had to leave.
You know, he hit her, like, all the time.
Did you tell your mother about this? No.
Tracy was freaking out.
She made me promise not to tell my parents.
She just cried the whole weekend.
We barely left my room until sunday when my mom made her go home.
Did she tell you what happened? I just figured he hit her again.
Her face was blood red, like he just slapped her.
Did he do something else? And this was the weekend of friday the 14th through sunday, october 16th? You're positive? Yeah.
My brother and mimi got married right out of college.
At first they thought that they couldn't have kids, so they applied to adopt.
And then right in the middle of that whole process, she turns out pregnant with tracy.
Lord, they were happy.
Then a few years after tracy was born, they said, "you know what, we're still going to adopt, "only we're gonna leave the newborns for somebody else, "and we're going to take the older kids, the harder to place kids.
" They adopted scotty.
My brother was so proud of that boy.
He'd always wanted a son.
Look at him, miss chase.
Does this look like an unhappy family to you? Does this look like abuse to you? With all due respect, mr.
Fields, abuse almost always happens in a climate of denial.
Miss chase, I've watched these kids grow up.
There was no abuse.
Here, look, look.
Please, look at this.
It'S it's their last christmas together.
Is this what I think? Okay.
Oh, this is great! This is awesome! - Thank you! - You like that? - Yeah, this is - good.
This is perfect.
These kids loved their dad.
I don't know where these crazy stories are coming from, or why they would do this, but I know my brother.
Now he's dead and it'S worse than the murder.
It's like he's being killed twice.
You got to help me.
Do you love it? All right.
Good, good, good.
every witness, every minute of this timeline points to scott fields.
But it's all circumstantial.
The only thing that ties it together is tracy.
His fingerprints are all over the parent's bedroom.
So are his sister'S.
What if the defense tries to shift blame from scott to her? By all reports, tracy was an angel.
Perfect student, drama club star, plus she has an alibi.
Scott, on the other hand, was expelled twice last year for fist fights in school.
One of those fights was with a teacher.
It's obvious he has a pension for violence.
Okay, but here's the big question.
Let's assume scott did the murders, and let's assume he acted alone.
Why didn't his sister report it? For two weeks tracy lived in that house? For two weeks she was silent? They drove their parent's car, spent their money, threw parties.
And she never said a word.
Why? Steve, just think about the family dynamic here.
Abused children learn to live in silence.
They learn to hide their shame.
They learn to keep secrets.
Scott was protecting tracy.
He finally killed their father to protect her, and afterwards, she sheltered him.
Her story holds up.
The school nurse told detective branch she had bruises, plus her alibi holds up completely.
It's tracy's testimony that ties this whole thing together.
Do you think she'll flip on him? Look, she's 16 years old.
She's terrified.
This girl does not want to go to prison.
If we offer her a good enough deal, she'll testify.
What do you recommend? One year probation for failing to report her parents as missing.
I want it clear that this is in exchange for tracy testifying truthfully against her brother.
Her testimony puts scott away.
Make the deal.
Tracy, would you tell the jury about the fight your brother had with your mother and father on the night of the 14th? That's the night they were murdered, right? That's correct.
This is really hard for me to talk about.
'Cause I I got really, really scared and confused when scott and I were arrested.
Tracy, limit your answer to the night of the 14th.
I told you and the police that my brother got in a fight with my parents, but it-it really wasn't that bad.
Tracy, you said and I quote, "scott and dad got in a huge fight and I ran out of the house.
" Yeah, they did get in a fight, but it wasn't that huge.
They fought all the time.
It was no big deal.
"And I came home on sunday - and my parents were gone.
" - Yeah, but like I told you, miss scofield, there was this drug dealer, roy, - who would come by the house.
- Your honor, the witness is changing her testimony.
No, I'm not.
I told you about roy.
Your honor,I'd like to request a recess.
- She's changing her testimony.
- That's not true.
You kept saying it's scott, - it's scott, scott killed them.
- Her plea bargain is based on her testimony.
I was afraid they would never let me leave jail, - if I didn't tell them what they wanted to hear.
- Again, we need a recess immediately.
Let the witness continue.
My dad sold pharmaceutical samples to this guy roy, - who was some sort of drug dealer.
- She is speculating.
These statements need to be stricken from the record.
The witness will refrain from any further outbursts.
The police yelled at me! They wouldn't let me have a lawyer! - Your honor! - Miss fields, you need to step down now.
I'll say whatever you want me to, just to get me out of here! My brother loved our mom and dad, I can't believe he would hurt them.
- Bailiff, remove this witness.
- I know you're gonna take away my deal.
I don't care if you throw me in jail for the rest of my life.
I have to tell the truth.
They don't want you to hear the truth! Scott is innocent! My brother is innocent! He didn't do it! It's the truth! He's innocent! Should have seen it coming.
None of us saw it coming.
She totally played us.
We're screwed.
We are not screwed.
We have a deal in place.
She reneged on the deal, she lied on the stand.
You're right, we're screwed.
Well, at least we know what's really going on here.
They're in this together.
Tracy and scott killed their parents together.
Double jeopardy make the case against scott dependent on tracy, she gets him off.
They planned this murder to a t tracy's alibi, scott playing dumb, her story, the recanting.
They planned it all.
What about the bruises? Tracy's in the damn drama club.
You mean the bruises are part of the plan? She bruised herself, or scott bruised her.
She created a story we'd buy, and she played us.
But why? Why did they kill their parents? Why all these elaborate legal maneuvers? And why is tracy protecting him? She could have taken the stand and told the jury the same B.
S.
Story she sold us on and gotten away with murder.
What if we're going about this all wrong? What if we're looking at this from the outside in, when we should be looking at it from the inside out? What if I have no idea what you're talking about? What if they're in love? What if tracy is in love with her brother? Forbidden love.
It's romeo and juliet, except in reverse.
Why kill yourselves when you can murder your parents and live in their castle? Incest.
That is just sick.
It's not technically incest; he was adopted.
But it does explain everything.
Kids kill mom and dad because mom and dad caught them flagrante delicto.
How in god's name do we prove that? Tracy's friend? No.
She lied to her friend.
This is a secret you keep in the family.
I hate to throw a wrench in this theory, but my guys have spent hundreds of hours pouring over e-mails,chat rooms, phone calls, and there is nothing that proves tracy and scott are lovers.
Have we checked their text messages? I mean, every time I want to communicate something privately or discreetly,I text it.
It's kind of like sending virtual notes through the cell phone.
I can barely figure out how to talk on my cell phone.
Would they keep records of text activity? After the patriot act, they keep records of everything.
Okay, danny, track down those text things.
Double jeopardy doesn't come in to play until the trial's over.
And this trial's not over.
Go home, annabeth.
You've got your husband, you've got your baby.
Just for the record, I don't feel competitive with you.
I think I feel a little jealous.
You're kidding.
You have a family, a baby.
And you still show up on time and do the work.
You know what I'm desperate for? A good night's sleep.
a friday night to myself.
I'm starting to get this sinking feeling that you can't actually have it all.
How do we know they were killed on friday night? We only know because tracy said so.
And her alibi's for friday, right? Last time anyone spoke to the parents was thursday.
Exactly.
He left work thursday at 6:00.
Everyone just assumed he was leaving for europe that weekend, and that's why he didn't come in on friday.
But he never got to the airport.
What if they were killed thursday night? Scott and tracy stay up all night getting rid of the bodies, and coming up with their story.
The next morning, tracy goes to school, scott cleans the house with bleach.
And that night, tracy creates an alibi by going over to megan'S.
And if anything goes wrong, they plan for scott to take the fall, and tracy to get him off at the trial.
Scott kept his mouth shut, lawyered up,let tracy do all the talking.
The little actress.
If they killed them on thursday "D-m-l-8-R.
" What is that? Uh, do me later.
I wish I didn't know that.
"I-x-x-x-w/u" is,I want to get porno with you.
Kids these days, huh? Here's one more to the point.
"Tonight, your room or mine?" "Let's meet in the shower.
" Okay, that's it.
I'm tired of this girl's games.
She thinks she's smarter than us.
She is smarter than us.
These messages prove beyond a doubt that tracy and scott were lovers, which is why they colluded and why tracy lied on the stand.
Inform tracy's lawyer that her deal is no longer enforceable.
Charge her with murder.
Scare the crap out of her.
Get her to flip on her brother, and you, try to flip him on her.
They're both proven liars.
They can flip flop like fish on dry land, and they'll still be useless to us as witnesses.
We need hard evidence.
Somebody pulled that trigger.
We need the murder weapon.
Then the deal goes to the first one who coughs it up.
It's over.
Plea bargain is out.
We'll get our mistrial.
Your double jeopardy plan it's finished.
Do you have a question in there? How long have you been sleeping with your brother? This interview is over.
I'm charging your client with double homicide.
I-I didn't do it.
Convince me.
Tracy, we're leaving.
It was scott's idea.
He shot them.
I-II saw him do it.
Why? He said nothing could keep us apart.
I swear.
I saw him pull the trigger.
I love my brother.
But I can't protect him anymore.
Not after he murdered mom and dad.
Is that the way it happened, scott? No.
She's lying.
Every time we catch tracy in one lie, she tells us another.
And so do you.
Now, do you still think she loves you, or is that a lie, too? You don't know anything about love.
Is that so? Does love mean killing your parents for tracy? Does love mean you're taking the fall all alone, huh? You go to prison, she goes to the mall.
Is that love? Scott, there's a possible deal on the table here if you can prove tracy's involvement.
It was her idea to kill them, and I can prove it.
Then let's start from the beginning.
I want to know who planned the murder, who pulled the trigger, and who initiated sex between you and your sister.
Come on.
If you want a deal, I need to know everything.
Including what you did with the gun.
The first time we fooled around, touching each other and stuff, I was in the tenth grade, and tracy was in the eighth.
We both knew it was wrong, but we never talked about it, and we didn't touch each other again for a year.
Then one night, tracy climbed into bed with me.
It felt like the most natural thing.
Like it would have been even more wrong not to hook up.
It was as if we both had been holding back this ocean of feelings, and then it just burst.
Started having sex almost every single night.
I couldn't wait for my parents to go to sleep.
Then they caught us.
Mom came in my room, and tracy was in my bed.
She flipped out.
Dad was ballistic.
They cried, they screamed, they threatened to put me in one of those boot camps for kids, and make tracy go to boarding school.
They said we would never see each other ever again.
I told tracy, "you'll be 18 in two years.
"We can be apart that long.
"We love each other enough to last.
" But she said she hated them.
She begged me to kill mom and dad.
She said, they never loved me, and sheshe kept saying they weren't my real parents, and nobody loved me but her.
I said no.
I said no, I couldn't do it.
The next night, I woke up to the sound of two gunshots.
Thursday night, the 13th? Yeah.
And then, I heard two more.
he's lying! Scott's lying! I saw him pull the trigger myself! I ran to my parents' bedroom.
Tracy had dad's gun.
Mom and dad were dead on the floor.
All I did was help him get rid of the bodies.
Scott said he would kill me if I didn'T.
She told me where to bury the bodies.
He did it! He did it! The drugs were a lie.
The abuse was a lie.
Saying that scott killed your parents was a lie.
You killed them.
No, that's not true! Tracy, your fingerprints are on the gun.
And your fingerprints are on the bullet still left in the chamber.
The fact that you were not the one who pulled the trigger does not excuse your role.
You hid this crime in a cold and brutal fashion.
Scott fields, the court will impose an upper term of eight years.
Tracy fields, it makes my heart ache to think of your parents, who, from all accounts, were loving and nurturing.
And as you have shown your own parents no mercy, this court shall show you none.
You are hereby sentenced to two terms to be served consecutively,of life without parole.
It's so strange, packing up their house.
Deciding what to keep, what to toss out.
Like A a dream where you can't wake up, but you want to.
I just want you to know that the court record will officially reflect that there was no evidence of drug dealing or a abuse on the part of your brother.
We're gonna make sure the news media is tipped off,as well.
How did this happen? Roger and mimi didn't deserve it.
They spoiled the kids, if anything.
Gave 'em everything that they wanted.
You shouldn't blame them.
And you shouldn't blame yourself.
Thank you.
