118 - Sex, Toys and Videotape

Tell me this isn't what I think it is.
I can teach you how to use it.
Use it, I don't even want to touch it.
Um, can everyone do the math? This plus this equals this.
We've had a complaint about the noise.
I'm so sorry, I didn't even know No.
I'm the one that's sorry.
You're in flagrant violation of penal code 10-65.
I have a search warrant here.
Now, assume the position.
( music starts; women cheering ) Turn that thing off.
I don'want Jeffrey to see this.
He would kill me.
I made him promise no strippers at his bachelor party.
( turns off music ) It's him.
It's the groom.
What's going on? Your secret's safe with me, ladies, okay.
But remember, you got one more week of freedom.
All right, I'm going to go, but I do have just one more thing to say to my bride.
Someday When I'm awfully low When the world is cold I will feel a glow Just thinki of you And the way you look tonight.
Hey, sis, we're here.
It's the biggest y of your life.
Kat? Maybe she and Jeffrey eloped.
Oh, no way, Jeffrey's parents would flip.
You heard his dad's ast last night.
"I have finally found the daughter I never had.
" Oh, my God, it's so beautiful.
Is she wearing her hair up or down? Up with the curl ringlets.
That'll look great.
Kat? Kat.
MAN: Katrina Moore.
Killed the night before her wedding.
You're kidding? It gets worse.
She was a schoolteacher.
First grade, Graduated from t University of Texas in '02.
Lived alone, by all accounts, the real deal.
Kind to animals, takes in strays.
Basically.
Her sister found her.
Any other family members in town? No, her sister was the only living relative.
The victim's bridesmaids were coming over to help her with her wedding dress.
Oh, this is tragic.
Cause of death? Strangled with a teddy.
A teddy she received at her bachelorette party last weekend.
How's this a sex crime, other than the teddy? I mean, I know you're on loan from the Sex Crimes Division, but Let me make one thing clear.
Everything is about sex.
Now the M.
E.
will make the final determination, but it looks like ra to me.
The CSIs found skin under the nails and hair pulled from the root in her hand.
You think it's the predator? Are there any sex offenders who live nearby? Actually, it looks like the victim knew her attacker.
How do you figure that? It appears they had a drink together.
Now there were two sets of prints.
One belonged to the victim.
And the other was a partial print from an unknown male.
Now, Katrina and her fianc? weren't living together, so our theory is Ms.
Moore was home alone, she invited this guy in, they had a beer, then he raped and killed her.
Who's yo suspect? Well, the fianc? is a person of interest.
You've got statistics on your side.
And a shaky alibi.
Preliminary reports put time of death between 11:00 p.
m.
and 1:00 in the morning.
Now, the groom was with his parents until 11:45, then he says he went home alone and went to bed.
You think he did it? It's possible.
No sign of forced entry, she knew the guy.
Maybe the groom got cold feet.
The night before the wedding.
Uberwedding.
Huge, like, 750 gues.
The pressure could've gotten to him.
I asked the groom to come in for questioning.
His parents gave him an alibi, but Okay.
Bring the parents in, too.
Sit him down, seif you can ferret out the situation without causing too much duress.
I was supposed to watch my bride walkindown the aisle this morning.
We were supposed to spend the rest of our lives together.
The police are determined to find Katrina's killer.
But in order to do that, they need to rule you out as a suspect as quickly as possible.
You can't think Jeffrey had anything to do with this.
FATHER: We told you he was with us last night.
We came back to our house after the rehearsal dinner.
We need a DNA sample to compare to what was found at the crime scene.
It's standard procedure.
If you voluner, we can do this without a subpoena.
You found DNA? What do you mean, like blood or something? We found semen.
We believe Katrina was raped before she was murdered.
Raped? Someone raped her and then straned her? Oh, my God.
But she was you don't understand.
My son and his fiancée were saving themselves for marriage.
We signed covenant cards, we made a pledge that we were going to wait until we were married.
She was a virgin.
We both are.
The groom's prints were in Katrina Moore's house, but they were not on the beer bottles.
The M.
E.
is still working on the DNA results, but we have no evidence of the fianc?being at the scene.
So, no other suspect? Oh, we did pull the victim's cell phone records.
From a Houston phone number.
One of those disposable cell phones.
No credit check required kind of deal.
Difficult to trace to the actual person.
But I did call the number.
A guy answered.
His name's Rodney Wallace.
He told me he was in Houston.
He told you his name? I told him I was calling from the state lottery.
Were you able to get a read on the guy? Do we have any reason to suspect him of anything? Well, for one thing, he lied.
His cell phone signal was bouncing off a tower right here in Indianapolis.
He's here in town.
DETECTIVE: Not only is he here, but he flew in the night before Katrina Moore was murdered.
MAUREEN: Sounds like we need to sit Mr.
Wallace down for a little chat.
I heard what happened to Kat.
It's awful.
Kat and I had a lot of history.
Remained tight ever since college.
What brought you to Indianapolis, Rodney? Business.
What kind of business you in? I'm self-employed.
That business take you to Katrina's house Friday night? She might've asked me to stop over.
Phone records indicate that you started calling Katrina right after her engagement announcement appeared in your alma mater's alumni magazine.
The weeks leading up to her wedding, you sometimes called as much as fivesix times a day.
Kat and me were tight.
When you went to her house Friday night, what'd you do? Want to know the truth? I think Kat was getting cold feet about the wedding thing.
And what gave you that impression? Look we didn't plan for anything to happen.
It just did.
Do you know what a covenant card is? Katrina had pledged herself to Jeffrey.
They were saving themselves for marriage.
Kat told him she was a virgin? Kat was really something.
Well, now you starting to sound like the jilted boyfriend.
You got it all wrong.
Do we? I'm not some angry ex-boyfriend.
I'm her loving ex-husband.
We just heard back from the Houston Police Department.
You have a record, Mr.
Wallace.
And that partial print we found at Katrina's place, matched to your prints.
You tried to strangle your previous girlfriend.
We were horsing around and it got out of hand.
You purchased a one-way ticket to Indianapolis, Rod.
You think your ex-wife was going to cancel her wedding, invite you to shack up with her? Did you kill her when she refused? Katrina was my wife.
We had sex that night just like we had many, many times before.
When I left, she was alive and she was happy.
Now, I got a funny feeling that the DNA we get from your water bottle here, is gonna mat the skin we found under Katrina's fingernails.
You know what? I'd like a lawyer.
I'm not answering any more of your questions until I get one.
Detective Orz, why don't you book Mr.
Wallace? Get him a lawyer.
Gladly.
ANNABETH Police have somebody in custody.
Do you recognize this man? No.
Katrina never mentioned the name Rodney Wallace to you? No.
Why? She know him? WOMAN: Oh, my God.
So you do recognize him.
I never seen his face, but I do recognize that name.
He was an old boyfriend of Kat's.
We were engaged for over a year and she never mentioned a boyfriend.
I mean, this is completely Whoever he is, he's lying.
Katrina told me everything.
You know she went to college in Houston? Yeah.
She lived in a sorority.
She sang in a choir.
She double majored in education and Spanish.
Nothing about a boyfriend.
If she had a boyfriend I would know.
When my sister came home from college one summer, she told me about a guy thisuy.
Apparently, he was a total manipulator and she was young and dumb.
And, you know, everyone's entitled to one crazy ex-boyfriend.
She made me promise not to tell anybody about it.
I was her only family.
Did she tell you she was married to him? I'm sorry, you said what? Rodney Wallace says he and Katrina were married.
And you believed him? Jeffrey, we checked it out.
They were married.
But it was only for a short time.
Katrina divorced him four months later.
You know she signed a covenant card with Jeffrey? She was really just so crazy about him.
And she really was a new person.
So, I covered for her.
We made a pledge to each other.
I know this is hard to hear.
I loved her so much.
And I keep thinking this can't get any worse, but it just did.
We uncovered an orgy of bodily fluids: semen, blood, saliva.
Your victim had blood under her nails, semen in her body.
I even found skin between her teeth.
And? All came from the same source, your guy with the water bottle.
Rodney Wallace.
And what about the rest of the evidence found at the scene, like the beer bottles? CSI tested it and found saliva on one bottle matches the victim, and the other belongs to Mr.
Wallace.
And the teddy? Had tracesf Mr.
Wallace's blood and saliva.
Based on the skin in the victim's teeth and the blood on the teddy, I'd say that your bride bit this guy.
Hard.
Then we're certain that this was rape? The totality of the physical evidence indicate that it was rape, but You know I don't like buts.
But, the vaginal bruising and tearing was inconclusive.
So, in theory it could have been consensual.
Well, anything is theoretically possible.
Let's cut to the chase, Annabeth, you've got nothing.
Then you're client won't mind being searched.
For what? A bite mark.
Katrina Moore had skin in her teeth.
She bit your client during the course of the rape.
I told you we had sex, we were married.
Rodney.
We're happy to submit to a search.
Don't I have a fifth amendment right here? Oh, would you like a warrant? 'Cause I could have one here within the hour along with a less cheery disposition.
We're happy to submit to a superficial search.
Roey.
Stand up and take your shirt off.
So, I've got nothing on your client? There's not enough to arraign him.
It could've been consensual.
Defeive bites on a forearm, in what universe? In a universe of a trial where the burden is on the state to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that my client raped and killed his ex-wife.
My client says Katrina liked it rough.
She may have, but if you add that bite mark to your client's history of violence towards women, specifically his assault and battery conviction in '99.
Oh, you know priors aren't admissible unless he takes the stand.
Which he won't.
Your client tried to strangle his ex-girlfriend and luckily she didn't die.
That sounds like a MO to me.
No, it sounds prejudicial.
And I think we both know a judge will agree.
ANNABETH: I wanted you to be the first to know we're charging Rodney Wallace with Katrina's murder.
His semen was a match.
His skin was under her nails.
His DNA was found in her teeth.
She fought back.
Rodney is claiming that their sex was consensual.
That's not possible.
The defense is going to try to make it look like consensual sex.
And then sow seeds of doubt about who committed the murder.
Now, I have to warn you, this is going to be a dogfight.
They're going to put Kat on trial.
That's what you're saying, isn't it? Thdefendant has a right to mount a defense.
What about her rights? What about Katrina's right to her dignity? That's just not how the system is set up.
I have to ask.
Is there anything we should know about? Anything she regretted? Just Rodney.
when Katrina Moore was only 21 years old, she made a mistake.
She secretly married this man.
Rodney Allen Wallace.
The marriage only lasted four months, but she never told anyone about it.
Not even her sister.
Katrina had the marriage annulled and moved here.
She had outgrown this man and this marriage.
She wanted to put the past behinher.
And she thought she had.
But when Mr.
Wallace found out that she was engaged to marry a man she'd met at church, he got angry.
Evidence will show Mr.
Wallace started contacting her.
He called her repeatedly over six months, and then he flew to Indianapolis two days before her wedding.
This is a portrait of a man obsessed.
The evidence will also show that the nig before her wedding, Rodney Wallace attacked raped, and viciously murdered Katrina Moore.
ATTORNEY: Rodney Wallace is anything but a predator.
He respected his ex-wife's wishes to keep their relationship a secret.
The fact is, Katrina Moore kept a lot of things secret.
She promised her fianc? that she was a virgin.
She lied to her family and she lied to her church about who she really was.
The evidence will show that Katrina Moore led a double life.
Now my clit went to see his ex-wife the night before her wedding because she invited him.
They hadex; wild, rough sex.
Now, it's possible that someone seized the moment to frame my client.
It's possible that her fianc? learned his bride was cheating on him the night before their wedding and flew into a murderous rage.
But the state cannot prove that my client raped his ex-wife.
Nor can they prove beyond a doubt that he killed her.
ANNABETH: How would you describe this particular bite? MAN: I'd categorize it as a classic defensive wound.
Why? It'on the outside of the forearm as if the victim were being pinned down.
The victim was strangled with a piece of lingerie that was wrapped around her neck.
A teddy just like this one.
Can you please describe how the defendant might have gotten this wound on his arm? Sure.
May I demonstrate? The accused put the teddy around the victim's neck like so.
Based on the bite mark, it appears that the defendant used his arm to pin Katrina down.
Mind you, they were lying down.
She bit down on his arm, then he continued to pull the lingerie tighter and tighter causing his flesh to tear, like you see in the photo until Ms.
Moore lost consciousness and then her jaws disengaged.
Thank you.
Is forensic odontology an exact science? It's based on calculations and precise measurements which are then interpreted by a trained individual.
ATTORNEY: So, it's guesswork really? And you're guessing this was a defensive wound.
Objection, Your Honor.
The defense is goading the witness.
JUDGE: Pose a direct question or be seated, Counsel.
You're interpreting that this was a defensive wound, but you can't say for sure, yes or no? Well, in my opinion Yes or no? No.
In a recent study, of Forensic Odontologist participated ia bite mark proficiency test.
Any idea how they did? They failed 63% of the time.
That's more than inexact.
That's sounds like criminal negligence.
ODONTOLOGIST: That's one study.
But the fact remains, the defendant's flesh was in the victim's teeth.
She bit him.
And she bit him hard.
There were bruises on the victim's back, shoulders and buttocks consistent with having been knocked to the floor.
Heneck was extremely bruised.
Are you certain this was the teddy used to strangle Katrina Moore? MEDICAL EXAMINER: Yes.
The ligature marks on the victim's neck are consistent with that teddy found at the scene.
And you're sure Rodney Wallace was the one that did it? According to our pathologist, his blood and saliva were on the material.
MAUREEN: Thank you.
No further questions.
Is it possible that the bruises and bite marks you described were a result of rough sex? I've examined a lot of sexual assault victims and in my opinion, this was unequivocally a rape.
Thank you.
Your Honor, the defense would like to enter into the record an additional piece of evidence not currently on the exhibit list.
Your Honor, the defense is barred from adding new evidence.
I'm well aware of the rules of discovery.
Court will recess for 15 minutes.
Counselors, in my chambers.
We'll find out what this is.
It would be unusual for the judge to let something in this late.
When did this disc come into your possession, Ms.
Chung? I've been aware of it since the beginning of the case.
Can you tell me why on earth you withheld it until this moment? Because the M.
E.
has unequivocally accusemy client of rape, and I have evidence that directly refutes that.
In other words, you're sandbagging the prosecution with this stunt.
I had no way of knowing the M.
E.
's testimony would so forcefully impugn my client.
We have the right to rebut.
What could this disc possibly depict other than a relationship from a different time, under different circumstances? Why don't we look? I want to warn the court that what you're about to see is of a graphic, sexual nature, and that the purpose of viewing it here today, is to shed light on the very serious matter before us.
( on monitor ): Rod, what's this camera doinin here? Oh, my God, what are you doing? RODNEY: What? No, keep going, I was just acting.
Keep going.
( pleasurable moaning ) RODNEY ( on monitor ): You want it hard, don't ya? Oh, get your hands off me; yes.
Don't stop, don't stop.
You want it, don't you? Say it! I want it.
Hurt me.
Hurt me.
Hurt me.
( turns off monitor ) How would you describe this sexual encounter? Was it rape? No.
So, it was connsual? Objection, the witness is not a sexual behaviorist.
Sustained.
The tape we just saw was recorded several years ago, but for all we know Katrina Moore continued having perverted sexual encounters just like this with any number of men, isn't that true? Objection, the victim's sexual history is not on trial here.
Stay on track, Counselor.
Is it possible that my client had rough sex with Katrina Moore on the night in question? The kind of sex depicted on this DVD.
Katrina Moore was brutally strangled.
Did they happen simultaneously? Can you determine a precise window of time between the sexual encounter and the strangulation? Not precisely, no.
CHUNG: No? So, five minutes, ten minutes, an hour could've passed, correct? Yes.
In other words, it is entirely plausible that my client left after having consensual sex with Katrina Moore and afterwards someone else killed her.
Maybe her fianc?or some other unknown sexual partner.
Objection.
Overruled.
Is it possible? Yes.
JEFFREY: How could you let that happen? I mean, he just showed a porn movie of Do you have any idea what this is doing to me? To Katrina's memory? Okay, it's not as bad as it seems.
We have a strong case for murder, so the defense is throwing mud at the victim; it's a stunt.
And we're going to make sure the jury sees through it.
But, this could get worse before it gets better.
How is that possible? The defense is putting Rodney on the stand.
It's a last-ditch effort to cast him in a favorable light.
You can't let him go up there and say whatever sicko thing he damn well pleases.
We're gonna try to get him to incriminate himself in open court.
Look Jeffrey, the tape hurt us, but this trial's not over, you can't lose hope.
Hope is something I don't have a lot of right now.
The DVD was bad, but there were parts in there the judge wouldn't let be shown in court that were a lot worse.
Katrina had her wild side.
All rise.
BAILIFF: The State of Indiana v.
Rodney Allen Wallace.
The Honoble Judge Salter presiding.
Be seated.
Come to order.
Defense council, you can call your next witness.
Your Honor, the defense calls Rodney Wallace to the stand.
( gunfire ) ( people screaming ) BAILIFF: Freeze! Freeze! Keep your hands up! Somebody call an ambulance! Jeffrey.
Why? Why did you do this? I had to.
For Kat.
I don't think there's a person in that courtroom who doesn't feel for you.
But the fact is, you shot a man.
He's dead.
Do you have any idea what he stole from us? Do you? Kat and I were gonna start a family.
You didn't give the system a chance, it was working.
No.
I kept looking at the jury.
They were gonna let him go, I could feel it.
I know what I did was wrong.
But I loved her.
I loved her so much.
She was such a good person.
Jeffrey, I talked to the foreman.
They were gonna convict.
STEVE: How did this happen? How did he get the gun in the courthouse? The guard searched his bag, but the gun was hidden in an inside pocket.
It was my fault.
Heaught me outside; we walked in together through the attorney's entrance.
No, it's the guard's job to insure security.
Everybody knows if you walk in with a prosecutor, you barely get a second glance.
Don't be so hard on yourself.
Security didn't do their job.
She's a perfectionist, she doesn't know how to give herself a break.
That said, you are gonna have to talk to Internal Affairs and prepare a statement for the press.
And the judge is gonna declare a mistrial and with it goes hundreds of hours of this office's time.
In the meantime, we need to decide how to handle the shooter.
Take ten.
Get yourse together.
We'll meet in my office.
Annabeth.
Hmm? Mm-mm-mm.
I thought you quit when you got I wasn't going to light it.
I always loved smoking.
I can't for the life of me remember why I quit.
My mom smoked through her pregnancy and I have photos to prove it.
Where'd you get that? My pse.
Don't tell Jack.
I was never any good at smoking.
I tried, but I'm not a very good deviant, no matter how much I want to be.
I've prosecuted dozens of murder cases.
But this one happened right in front of me, you know? I walked a guy with a gun into the courtroom.
It wasn't your fault.
Hey It wasn't your fault.
Thanks, Maureen.
This is a really disgusting habit, isn't it? Ugh, I wish someone would just outlaw it and spare me the trouble of being tempted.
Jeffrey Drake smuggled a loaded gun into the courtroom and shot Mr.
Wallace three times at close range.
Now, there is no doubt in my mind that he meticulously planned this and that he intended to kill him.
Which means, we have every right to charge Jeffrey Drake with murder.
As much as I hate what went on in that courthouse, ffrey wasn't in his right mind.
He just lost the love of his life.
He's not a cold-blooded killer.
So, what are you saying? I'm saying that if I were on that jury, I don't think I'd convict.
Not for murder.
Not for life in prison.
MAUREEN: Is that the message we want to send? People can the law into their own hands if they don't like the way a trial is going? But putting a bereaved fianc? through a murder trial and losing, is not gonna make it any better.
He's already given this office a black eye, we need to cut our losses.
It wasn't too long ago, we are less than half a generation out from the days when men stood outside of jails with ropes because they didn't like the legal process.
Why do you think I became a prosecutor? I get that and I don't like this any more than you do.
But Annabeth is right.
Any juror this side of the Bible Belt will not put Jeffrey in jail for this, which means if we take this to trial, he will walk.
That's a free pass, Maureen, versus, uh voluntary man? We need to make a deal.
He murdered a man the law presumes to be innocent until proven guilty and we should stand up for that.
Voluntary manslaughter is not a slap on the wrist.
He should do jail time.
Then get with his lawyer and see that he does.
MAUREEN: I know you're devastated.
And our hearts went out to you throughout this entire ordeal.
But that does not excu what you've done.
I doubt that you will find a judge who will even make my client post bail for taking out the man who raped and murdered his bride the night before they were married.
He packed a gun in his bag.
It's a crime of passion, it's involuntary.
He voluntarily pulled the trigger.
No jury is going to give him jail time.
It's involuntary manslaughter or we're done here.
Involuntary is two to eight.
Suspended.
Forget it.
Four years with possibility, which means he serves two, or I'm done here.
Done.
JEFFREY: I just snapped.
I couldn't sleep.
And every time I closed my eyes, I kept seeing that tape of them having sex.
Like animals.
So I got a gun.
And I hid it in my bag.
And I snuck it into the courtroom.
And I killed him for what he did to my girl.
To Katrina.
I can still see Rod's mug.
It was like he was winking at me through the camera while he was violating the woman that I was going to marry.
He kept calling Katrina a bitch.
A damn bitch, a dirty bitch.
It was like rapinger and murdering her wasn't enough.
No, he had to ruin her reputation and humilie my family.
So I shot him.
e you satisfied? I need to show the tape to my boss.
Have it transcribed and prepared for signatures.
We can sign the papers tomorrow morni in my office.
Outstanding, we'll see you then.
Come on.
Do you have a copy of the DVD played in court? The sex tape? Yeah.
Uh, yeah.
Here.
( on monitor ): Rod, what's this camera doing in here? Oh, my God, what are you doing? RODNEY: What? The judge ruled to exclude this section of the DVD.
( pleasurable moaning ) RODNEY: You know you want it, bitch.
You know you want it.
Damn bitch.
Dirty bitch.
Jeffrey referred to that in his confession.
That was never played in court.
I'm not following.
He kept calling Katrina a bitch.
A damn bitch, a dirty bitch.
The only way he could've known about this is if he'd seen the DVD before it was presented in court.
And if he'd seen it before, then he knew about Rodney and her past.
About the marriage.
I am so not liking where this is going.
So, if Jeffrey Drake knew about Rodney and the tape, why didn't he report it immediaty? Because Jeffrey Drake and Rodney Wallace were in this together somehow.
That's what we're saying, right? It looks like Katrina's past and future were conspiring to end her present.
we just need to prove it Where are we on the plea agreement? Oh, we have the deal.
It hasn't been entered, yet.
He's supposed to come in tomorrow to sign it.
And he's out on bail.
Okay, stall him for a few days, but be careful.
Don't tip Jeffrey off.
He catches wind of this and he's guilty, he's on the first plane to Mexico ok, tell me you got something I want to know the whole how, when and the why of the Jeffrey/Rodney connection.
Maureen's trying to suss out the sister thout letting on what we're doing.
See if we can tie Jeffrey to Rodney.
But, since the police were never looking to connect them we're thinking maybe there's something we missed.
"To see what is in front of your nose is a constant struggle.
" George Orwell.
I found something interesting.
Rodney was allowed one call a day while being held at county during the trial.
Guess who he called the day before Jeffrey shot him in court.
Jeffrey.
What? Rodney called Jeffrey from jail? Their conversation lasted four minutes.
And the following morning Jeffrey shot him.
Geez, was it something he said? Okay, okay.
The man who raped and killed the bride the night before her wedding called her fianc?from jail.
What does at prove? It proves they knew each other.
And now we need to prove conspiracy to commit murder.
WOMAN: I haven't been able to bring myself to touch any of Kat's things since it happened.
When my grandmother died, it took us six months to go through her things.
And then what did you do with everything? Am I supposed to give a wedding dress to charity? There's no easy way to do this.
Do you mind if I look around? No.
Do you know if your sister told Jeffrey about her past? About Rodney? I thought I was the only one who knew about Rodney.
I didn't even know that they'd been married.
Did Katrina keep a diary? Did she keep old letters? Day planners, anything we might've missed? Not that I'm aware of.
What's all this? That's stuff that the hotel sent back.
It was in the honeymoon suite.
Kat had it all planned out.
She had stacked the fridge with champagne and strawberries.
ORTIZ: Do you know what's on this? Kat told me that she had made a DVD to give to Jeffrey on their wedding night, but I couldn't bring myself to watch it.
I keep spinning my wheels on this one.
If Rodney Wallace was coming to Indianapolis to kill Katrina, then why get a one-way plane ticket? How was he expecting to get back to Texas? Rental car? No, he turned his in the day before we picked him up.
He killed his ex, thenturned his rental car in with no way of getting home? That is weird.
Whoa.
According to his intake report when we arrested him, Rodney had the keys to a 2005 Cadillac listed among his affects.
Doesn't Jeffrey's family own a dealership? Uh-huh.
You think Jeffrey gave Rodney a Cadillac for killing Katrina? I'll check with the impound lot and see if any cars were towed away from the motel.
And have your guys check Jeffrey's work phone records and e-mails to see if there was any communication.
I got a buddy in the Houston PD who says Rod owed his bookie $40,000.
And he's got a price on his head.
Oh, we need to find that Cadillac.
You've got to see what's on here.
Jeffrey.
Let me ask you something.
Do you recognize this car? It's a 2005 Caddy.
The VIN number indicates it came from your dealership.
Where are you going with this? Wellthe terms of the deal stipulate that Jeffrey be completely forthright with us on all aspects of the crime, otherwise the deal is off, and we'll charge you for Rodney's murder.
I gave that car to Katrina as a wedding gift.
Any idea how the keys ended up in Rodney's possession? M-maybe she gave it to him somehow.
Maybe he was blackmailing her.
Are you sure you never came into contact with Rodney? Of course I'm sure.
I had no idea about a previous marriage or even who Rodney was If I had known anything, I would have come to you immediately.
My God The man killed my fiancée.
We have evidence that shows you gave a $40,000 car to Rodney Wallace.
You forged the title, you took it off the books and spread the cost throughout your inventory.
You're a smart guy, Jeffrey, but you hired an amateur to kill your fiancée.
So Rodney has a car from Jeff's lot, big dl.
It doesn't even begin to prove conspiracy to commit murder, if that's where you're going.
Why did you call Texas from your work phone? And why were you exchanging e-mails with a man you claim you didn't know existed? And why did he call you from jail on your cell phone the night before you killed him? This is all circumstantial.
Really? What about this? Katrina left this for you in your honeymoon suite for the morning after your wedding.
KATRINA: If you're seeing this now, Jeffrey, we're married.
This video is for you and only you so you know how grateful I am for marrying me and loving me forgiving my past.
My sins, my mistakes especially Rod.
I would've understood if you walked away three weeks ago, but you showed me your true self and you still wanted to marry me.
Jeffrey, as your lawyer, I'm advising you not to say athing further.
MAUREEN: Your client played us.
You knew about Katrina's past and you couldn't forgive her.
Tell me, how did it work? Did Rodney blackmail her or did he blkmail you? Rodney called Katrina three weeks before our wedding to blackmail her.
I know because she told me.
She told me everything.
About the marriage.
All of it.
So I called up this Rodney character, and I told him to take a hike.
Then he sent me a tape of them having sex.
She never said anything about that.
And that was it.
So you had her killed because she lied to you? Why not just cancel the wedding and walk away? She was supposed to be a virgin! I was saving myself! For what?! So she could use me and my family and my money?! So she could humiliate me.
There were 750 people showing up that day to watch us take our vows before God.
I don't believe in divorce.
So, what? I'm to be saddled with a whore for a wife? If she wasn't a pervert and a liar and a slut, none of this would've happened.
None of it! KATRINA: I chose your favorite passage to be read at our wedding.
First Corinthians.
"Faith, hope, charity; the greatest of these is charity.
" Some translations it reads, "faith, hope and love.
" That's you, Jeffrey.
You've showed me what love is.
Love is forgiveness.
Forgiveness? Forgiveness for what? She told him the truth.
I don't think he understood her.
And I think he loved the ideaof her.
I think he was in love with the idea of a virgin.
So he paid her ex-husband to kill her.
"Love is patient, love is kind" My maid of honor read this passage at my wedding.
"it keeps no record of wrongs.
"Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in truth.
Love bears all things and believes" "all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, "I understood as a child, "I thought as a chil but when I grew up, "I put away childish things.
"And now abide "faith, hope, and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
"
