All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
I work for the Las Vegas metropolitan police department.
I've been on almost I grew up in Las Vegas pretty much from about the third grade on.
I've lived here almost my whole life.
I really like the area.
I mean, there's so much to do around here from you know? You got a lake nearby, the mountains if you want to, like, snow ski and stuff like that, so Apparently, there's a couple guys fist-fighting over here on the side of the road.
Yeah, they're still going at it.
Patrol 3db-60, put me on a 4-16 in front of the office Max on rainbow, best of the west.
Get in front of the car! Stand in front of the car.
I'm cool, fool.
Put your hands behind your back.
Drop the lighter.
What's going on? He robbed me two hours ago.
Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! I didn't rob him, homie.
Put your palms together.
You got anything on you you're not supposed to have? Take a step back and spread your feet.
You mind if I check you real quick? Man, go ahead, check me.
I'm cool, man.
Hey, man, don't be throwing my phone like that.
Look, relax.
Man, that's my phone.
Really? Have a seat.
Spread your feet.
You got anything on you you're not supposed to have? No, sir.
I'm gonna check you real quick.
Go right ahead.
Okay.
Put your hands behind your back.
Yes, sir.
Put your palms together.
How do you guys know each other? You want the honest answer? I'm talking to you.
I'm talking to you, yeah.
I tried to buy some weed from him and his friend earlier.
They took off with my money.
Okay.
So that's what you consider a robbery? Yeah.
Okay.
They took my money.
Okay.
All right, have a seat.
Yes, sir.
I ain't done nothing wrong.
Stand up.
Walk back to that car right there.
Tell me what happened.
I was trying to tap some marijuana.
You were trying to what? Trying to find a nickel sack of marijuana, five-dollar sack.
Okay, right.
Saw him and his friend sitting on the thing, asked 'em if they knew where to get some.
They're, like, "yeah, let me call my guy.
" Called him up, said, "all right, I'm gonna go" He went up to the guy's place, apparently, around the corner.
I didn't see him actually walk into the place with the money.
The other friend stayed with me.
How much money did you give him? Five bucks.
Okay.
About ten minutes later, his friend got a call on the phone.
Apparently it was him saying, "yeah, I got it.
" Rolled it into a blunt, just go to the second, uh, stairs to go "get it.
" I went over there.
There's no one there.
I knew on the way over there that I was probably getting, that I was probably already getting jacked.
Right.
No one was there, so I walked back to see if maybe, you know, guy taking a different route, whatever they were gone.
Looked around for about 20 minutes trying to find them, nothing.
Walked over here and started reading at Barnes & noble.
Took 'em outside, had a cigarette rolled.
Turned to this guy, didn't even recognize him at first, asked if he had a cigarette.
In front of the store? Right here.
Okay.
I asked if he had a lighter sorry so I could light my cigarette, and then I noticed who he was.
So, so this dude just happened to be walking down the street.
And I noticed who he was after I asked for the lighter.
Okay.
I'm, like, "weren't you the guy that just robbed me?" He's, like, "yeah, I am.
" I'm, like, "where's my money?" And he's like, "I don't got it.
" I'm, like, "where is it?" "I don't got it.
" "That's not what I asked.
Where's it at?" "He's down there, he's coming with it.
" I'm, like, "okay, whatever.
You, then.
" He's, like, he's all Up and What does that mean? All swollen in the chest, You know, like he's trying to (Bleep) Scare me off.
Okay.
I went up to him, got in his face.
"You," you know? "Give my my (Bleep) Money.
" He swung at me, I swung back.
That's pretty much when you pulled up.
And here we are.
Yep.
So what are you doing? Why you out here? I'm walking.
To where? To my house.
From where? From school.
From school? Yeah.
School got out a little bit ago.
Yeah, and then I went to the homie's house.
So what's taking so long? I don't know.
I just didn't want to go home so early.
That's why you get into trouble.
Apparently, this kid's on probation for For what, graffiti? Yeah.
When was that? A long time ago.
How long you on probation? How long were you on probation? A year.
You check in with your p.
O.
? Yeah.
How often? Every day.
Every day? Every day.
Just by phone? Yep.
What's your your p.
O.
Gonna think about this? I ain't do nothing wrong.
You didn't do anything wrong? No.
You could have done it in a better way, but you it in a better way, but you didn't.
That's why you're in handcuffs.
For reals? For reals.
So what was I supposed to do, just run away or what? Just say, "hey, I don't know you.
" Keep walking.
That's it.
It would've been that simple.
Joseph, stand up here.
Stand right here for me.
Yes, sir.
You're getting a citation for "affray," it's called participating in a fight.
Yes, sir.
Obviously you know it's not cool to stand on the sidewalk and Duke it out with somebody.
Yes, sir.
Okay? So you're gonna get a citation today.
Your court date's on here.
I'm gonna have you sign it.
It's not an admission that you're guilty.
It's just a promise to appear in court, okay? Okay.
All right.
When I take this left cuff off, I want you to put your hand on the back of your head, okay? Yes, sir.
Spread your fingers out for me.
Your fingers.
There you go.
We're taking him.
We're taking him.
All right.
We're taking him.
All right.
So, basically, you're taking me to jail because your feelings got hurt.
That's why you're taking me to jail.
Your feelings got hurt.
You're going to jail because you don't want to work with us.
Jump in.
You're taking me to jail to make yourself make you feel better.
Get up there.
We just had these two fighting it out here on the sidewalk.
Apparently it was a weed deal gone bad.
One kid gave the other one the money to go get his weed, and never showed back up.
And they just happened to cross paths again, so we're gonna go ahead and cite the adult and release him.
The juvenile's got quite a history.
He's on probation, so we're gonna go ahead and book him into the juvenile detention center.
When I'm on patrol, I understand my main priority is to respond to people, but when we got free time, I really like to go out there and contact some of the individuals, the problem areas in Portland, and you know, look for stolens, take drugs off the street, find weapons and things of that sort.
Possibly a rolling.
Willy-Lincoln-Willy.
It's stopping.
Stand by.
Willy-Lincoln Willy.
They got Toyota camry, 10-57.
It's a stolen.
Put your hands up! Everyone put their hands up! I got occupied times two, compliant so far.
Two occupants, compliant thus far.
Exit the vehicle.
Keep your hands up.
Put your hands as high as you can, sidestep to your left very slowly.
Keep going.
You will now take commands from another officer.
You will do exactly what they say.
Go down on your belly.
Keep your hands up, away from your body.
Look to your right.
We believe that you're armed! You make a move for a gun, we're gonna shoot you.
Passenger, sidestep to your left very slowly.
Stop.
Drop down to your belly.
Keep your hands straight out.
Put your palms up.
Cross your ankles.
Put your right ear on the ground.
You see, it's a Toyota, but we have three, it looks like Honda keys that have all been shaved down and used, probably used to steal cars.
Now we have an acura key right here.
Uh, two acura keys and it looks like another Toyota key, so when you see all the cars so far recovered Let's see what else we got.
Go underneath.
Some more jiggle keys.
Those keys were found on the passenger side, uh, the driver's side, same thing.
Confirmed by Vin.
It's confirmed by Vin, and it's not on the hot sheet because it was taken less than an hour ago out of gresham.
Okay, well, let's see what she has to say.
Hi, ma'am.
How long have you known him for? Uh, I don't know.
Maybe six months, maybe a little less.
I don't know.
About six months, though? Give or take, I think.
What's his name? Um, Uno.
They call him Uno.
They call him Uno? Yeah.
Has he always owned that car? No.
I believe he just I don't know if he just purchased it or if he's borrowing it.
I'm not sure.
You're not sure? He didn't say anything about the car? No.
Didn't say anything about, uh, where he was coming from or? Okay, did you see him driving it with the keys or anything like that? Yeah, he had a key.
He had a key? Yeah.
Okay.
Are any of your keys in the car or any of your possessions in the car? No, my purse is outside.
Your purse is outside? I have a couple of things that are my brother's in there that I was gonna take to him.
What are those things? The screwdriver, a little pouch of glasses, which is my pouch, and I believe wire cutters.
I don't know.
Um Okay, what's in the pouches? Uh, the pouch, I think, is probably the keys.
You know, it's totally okay.
You're the passenger.
If you knew that it was stolen or he said that he stole it or something, it's okay, it's okay to tell me.
He didn't say anything.
Like I said, I wasn't I was barely in the car.
Do you know much about stolen vehicles? My brother was in there for that, and he just got out.
So I figured the keys and stuff that he wants from me are probably for that.
But like I said For your brother or him? My brother.
My brother.
Okay.
What's your brother's name? Mike.
Yeah.
Mike and, uh He just got out, I believe.
And he was in jail for stolen cars? Yeah, he was in there for that.
Hey, sir.
How's it going? What's your name? Unesimo.
Do they call you Uno? Um, yeah.
What would you like me to call you? Uno.
Uno? Yeah.
Okay, uno, so, uh, whose car is that? I don't know.
Actually I'm just I bought it two, three three days ago.
Three days ago? Yeah.
How many keys do you own, uh, for this car, and in addition to, uh, like, I don't know, house keys or whatever? How many keys did I find in the car? I don't know.
I have, uh I have like uh, and the key that I told her that he gave me, I don't know how many were there, but there were like, I don't know, like five I think.
Five? Yeah.
Okay, there's probably about, maybe two dozen keys in there, maybe.
Here's the problem with what you're telling me, okay? The car that you're driving, the owner reported it stolen.
So you were driving, and you were in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Is that is that a surprise? I mean, just be honest with me.
Did you know it was stolen? I don't know.
Did you think it could be stolen? Well, I wasn't too sure.
You wasn't too sure? Because I just bought it in the street.
You just bought it on the street three days ago? Here's the other problem.
Okay, I talked to the owner.
The owner just reported the car stolen and said it was stolen within the hour.
That means when I contacted you, it was stolen maybe 30 minutes before I saw you.
So that means that the owner had his car and then someone stole it and then I found you in it.
All within probably about a half hour.
And you're telling me that you bought this car three days ago.
The car was stolen an hour ago, buddy.
And you're in it, and I found you in it, okay? And that's all we got.
The three days ago the owner had the car three days ago.
He had it two days ago.
He had it two hours ago.
So I know you didn't have it, okay? Your passenger already told me that her brother was in jail for stealing cars.
She has the jiggle keys.
Okay, it's not a big deal.
We're gonna get through it.
So I just need the truth.
All right, um, in that case, yeah, the keys, they were in there.
And, um, I talked to one of my buddies and they said they want to buy the keys.
Do you think that it's someone would be upset if you stole their car? Um, actually, yeah.
And, um, you know, this is the first time car that I ever took, you know, like that.
I didn't know I was So this is the first car you stole? Yeah.
I mean it.
I appreciate your honesty, buddy.
All right.
Okay, put your feet back in.
I'll come talk to you in a minute.
Hey, how you doing? Hi.
So, after talking to you, uh, and talking to uno, uno has admitted to me stealing the car tonight.
I'm going to charge you guys both with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Originally I'm from New York.
I've been down here about 15 years.
I came down here after I got out of the Navy.
Being six years in government service, I figured this would be the thing to do for me.
I enjoy doing it.
I've been doing it for 12 years here in north fort Myers, Florida.
Took the call two individuals inside a parking lot of a strip mall.
Possibly using drugs.
One possibly is passed out from the use.
Alpha-sa-foley.
County, I'm 97 the area.
Complainant's going to be in a gold Ford explorer behind Applebee's.
Gold or bronze grand marquis.
Come on.
Alpha-sa-foley.
County, what's the 20 on that vehicle? Ten-Mike-4070 parked next to a white building.
How you doing? Hi.
You doing all right? Yes.
What are y'all doing here? I'm gonna go and Get him out.
Come on out for a second.
Put your hands on the hood.
Go ahead and step back over here.
Put that on the roof.
What are you guys doing here? I was going through the book.
Okay.
You're not doing any drugs or anything like that? No.
You sure about that? Yeah, I'm trying to I'm looking I just bought that brand-new phone, and Is there anything illegal in the car? No.
Is this your vehicle? Yes.
Is it registered to you? Yes.
Okay, you mind if I look inside? No.
Okay, hang out right here.
We're good to go.
She gave consent.
I'll go ahead and look.
What would that be? He said it's water.
If you want? What would it be? We got a test for that, though? We were using the meth test.
Okay.
How you doing? Come here.
What's in that vial? Uh, water.
It's just water? There's nothing else in there? No.
So that's not any kind of narcotic, GHB, anything like that? So it's going to test as water? Oh, yeah.
You're positive? Yeah.
Why is it in the container? I don't know.
It's just water.
Whose is it? His, I think.
It's his, not yours? So you're not sure what it is, then? I know he says water, water.
Does that not seem odd to you? I guess so.
I don't know.
Turn around for me, have a seat.
There's no needles in here? No.
Well, what happened to the needle you were using? I don't use a needle.
Someone saw you, okay? I was not using a needle.
Or him, okay? I can't say.
I fell asleep.
I know somebody said that they came up here because Where's the needle? I don't know what you're talking about.
You don't know what I'm talking about? So when we find the junk in the car, it's not yours, is that what you're saying? It must be hers? It's not going to be on that side of the car? And here we go.
Looks like we've got three, four, five needles.
Some cotton swabs.
A spoon.
It's burned on the bottom here.
We've got a lighter.
We've got a cut straw.
We've got a complete kit here for shooting heroin.
She has track marks on her arm.
That would be someone indicative of using needles.
She's also got a straw here that I'm sure will test positive for the pills that she's crushing up and They crush the pills up and snort them.
Better high than taking them.
Let's go and talk to her.
Hey, dawn, who's Emily? My daughter.
Who? My daughter.
Talk up, I can't hear you.
My daughter.
Okay.
That's hers? Go ahead, just leave that there please.
I have three kids.
You have three? Yes.
Whose medications are these? I have not a clue.
They're in your purse.
Uh, no.
You don't know how it got in your purse? No, actually I don't.
Did he put it in your purse? I have no clue whose that is.
Okay.
Whose bottle of morphine is that? Bottle of what? Morphine.
Morphine? Yeah.
You need to test that.
That's water.
They just did test it.
Did you guys just test that.
Huh? That's water.
You tested that? That's water? That's water.
Just water? Yes.
Just water? Looks like morphine to me.
You don't know what these are? No, I don't.
They're oxycontin, and I've got the scripts for 'em at my house.
But you don't have them on you? No, I didn't bring the bottle with me, sir.
How did this get in her pocketbook? I put it in there.
You put it in there? So these are yours? Yeah.
So you have a permission you have a prescription for oxycontin? Yeah.
I've already beat the charge once.
Okay.
What are you taking these for? My knee, my back.
Talk up.
Huh? For what? For my bad knee and my bad back.
Okay.
I was in a bad car accident, sir.
Okay.
Why are you taking them, injecting them and not taking them orally? I do take them orally.
Okay, but you don't inject them? No.
What are the injection marks from your arm from? From water.
From water? You inject water in your arms? Water doesn't get you high.
Go ahead and stand up for me.
Right now you're under arrest for possession of opium derivatives and possession of narcotics equipment.
Can you make sure my phone gets put in my property? This one on your ear here? No the camouflage phone that's on the dashboard, sir.
The what? The camouflage phone that is on the dashboard, sir.
Okay.
That way, when I get out I can make a phone call.
Okay, you can also get phone numbers out of the phone when you get into the jail.
Okay? Now come on over here with me.
My car's right over here.
All right, go ahead and have a seat.
All right, listen, just let them finish doing what they're doing.
Sit down, and we're going to go ahead and cut you loose.
We're going to take a little information from you, okay? Here, have a seat.
Hey.
Yes, sir.
Whose syringes and cotton and spoon these yours or they hers? They're all mine.
They're all yours? All mine.
How long how long have you been shooting this stuff? Don't know.
You don't know? Why do you shoot water? Give me an explanation and I'd believe it.
The rush.
It's a rush.
To shoot water? Yeah.
You ever been charged for drug paraphernalia? No.
Never? Never.
Okay, that's what this is.
Everything in here is drug paraphernalia.
The syringes and cotton and spoon.
All right, well that's what you're being arrested for, okay? Yep.
All right.
One goes to jail, the other one goes home.
