All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
My favorite part about being a police officer in Stockton is I'm a second generation police officer.
It's obviously pretty cool to be able to walk down the same hallways that my father did.
The second thing is I've been doing this for a little over 13 years.
I've been a gang detective, and so I'm very familiar and have contacted many gang members.
Some of the things I look for doing proactive stuff is somebody that I've contacted in the past might be on probation or parole.
He's going straight on the sidewalk.
I got him right there in the spotlight.
He's trying to dump something, it looks like.
- We have a guy on an illegal bike.
- Watch his hand, watch his hand, watch his hand, watch his hand.
Watch his hand.
- Get on the ground! - Get your hands out of your pockets, now! Get your hands out of your pockets! Get your hands out of your pockets! Put your hands straight out! - 5-8-51.
- Relax.
Relax your hands.
So, basically, the motorcycle that he was riding, obviously, it's an off-road vehicle.
Numerous traffic violations.
Off-road vehicle wasn't supposed to be on the roadway anyway.
Give me your other hand.
Look for a, uh, look for a gun.
He dumped a gun.
- Watch his right front pocket.
- Oh, yeah.
(Mumbles) Check him real good.
It might be underneath him.
- Or under the bike.
- Where is it? Man: I found it.
- You just found the holster? - Yeah.
- I saw you trying to drop it.
- No.
I ain't drop nothing though.
You didn't see me dropping nothing.
I didn't want y'all thinking like I had something on me.
- Oh, you have rounds in 'em.
- And he's got rounds.
- Okay.
- Yeah, that's all I got though.
- Oh, okay.
Perfect.
- But there's no gun though.
Check under your car.
- Or under my car.
- Where is it? I didn't throw nothing.
Y'all didn't see me throw nothing.
- All right.
- I found them, man.
All right.
Go ahead and sit up.
Put your right leg in and stand up.
Why are you guys treating me like I did something wrong? Oh, yeah.
We saw a male subject riding a dirt bike.
He rode up onto the sidewalk.
He was trying to reach into his right waistband.
We located a holster on him, we're not sure if he dumped a gun yet.
He's got some live ammunition on him as well, so we're gonna try and look around and see if maybe he dumped a gun when he was out of view for a second.
About right in here is when he really started reaching, but I didn't see him throw anything.
So, it might have just been the holster.
I'm not sure.
Sometimes they will just have, you know, a holster and some ammunition.
- You found it? - Yeah.
Okay.
Well, I guess he was this far back when he started reaching, so.
So, it looks like we located a revolver in front of this location in the driveway.
So, he was starting to reach in his band after we came this way.
- What do you got, partner? - Uh, we traced it back back here to 9207 and found the gun that he was dumping.
It's loaded, as you can see right there.
So, calling for our forensic techs so that they can come take a picture of it in place, - and then we'll make it safe.
- That's good.
So, we'll go back to the car and run this guy, and see what his deal is.
Okay.
Hey, man.
- Hey, what happened? - What's your name, bud? - Joshua.
- Say it again, I'm sorry? - Joshua.
- Joshua? Okay.
What's the deal with the bike, man? I don't know, I'm just riding it.
What, I can't ride it? Well, no, you canere's a suspicious truck over here with a couple guys hanging around it.
I'm guessing that's gonna be a hand-to-hand drug exchange.
Put your hands on the back of your head.
- Are there keys in this car? - Yes, sir.
Okay, don't touch the keys.
Put your hands on top of the car! If you act squirrelly, we are gonna have a problem really fast.
Man: I was trying to bring you my hand.
What's your name, partner? William, that was really stupid.
I saw you crumple that up and try to get rid of it.
- Yes, sir.
- Did you just buy dope from this guy? - No.
- Were you selling dope to this guy? - I wasn't.
- Or are you just using dope? I was kind of the middle man.
We were just passing it to him.
Okay.
How much do you have on you right now? I just have 30 cents $30 worth of Okay.
Why don't we start off with you reaching down and handing that to me.
- Okay.
- It's a little tiny piece.
Do you wanna have a conversation, or are you gonna eat this? I'd like to have a conversation.
Okay.
That sounds good.
Do you have more product on you right now? I do have.
So, he's the guy I want to be talking to? - Yeah.
- Okay.
I'm gonna have you step out of the car.
If you get squirrelly, I'm gonna dump you, okay? Yes, sir.
Keep your right hand on the back of your head.
Yes, sir.
Step over.
Interlace your fingers, separate your feet.
Separate them wide for me.
Are you on probation or anything along those lines? Unsupervised out of Colorado.
For what? Put your hands down.
What? Theft.
- Theft? - In 2014.
How long are you going to be on probation for? It's over in June of 2016.
What's with the blood on your head? What's that all about? I think it was a zit I just popped.
You gotta focus harder on not making yourself look silly when you do that, okay? - Yes, sir.
- Isn't the goal to make things better? Did you already receive the money from this guy? Yeah.
That's the money right there.
- How much was it? - $30.
Okay.
Have a seat over here.
Driver tried to dump a little nugget of heroin on the ground, and now we're finding a safe in the bottom of the car, and this passenger over here is the one who's got the safe.
Stand up and come talk to me.
This is your methadone.
It's got your name on it.
- Mm-hmm.
- Okay.
There's a little nugget of heroin in here.
Here's your scale that was in your backpack.
I can't tell if this is heroin or if this is bunk.
No, it smells like it's heroin.
What do you got, an eight-ball there? I don't know.
What's your deal? Are you just trying to stay high or? I-- I honestly only-- I don't use very much, um, methadone.
How much are you using a day right now, man? Like 20 cents.
20 cents? So how much do you have to pick up to keep that habit afloat? 40 cents.
You pick up 40, you cut it in half I started using after I got stabbed in August last year.
We need to get you more help, partner.
Put your hands behind your back.
It hurts.
- Give me your other hand.
- Yes, sir.
I'm relaxed.
I'm not gonna fight you.
- I can't hear you.
Hold on one second.
- I said I'm not gonna fight you.
- I'm relaxed.
- You seem like a nice guy.
I'm not gonna fight you either.
I will do my best to get you some help, but you're gonna have to work a lot harder than you're working, 'cause right now, you're not doing the right thing.
Have a seat on the curb.
William, you have a warrant out of Colorado.
Do you know that? I think they're gonna extradite you.
It's over a misdemeanor.
I tried taking care of it through the mail and they sent the warrant, and now I'm just trying to get the funds for a lawyer.
You are free to go, okay? All right? My request to you is just, you know, - just figure it out, man.
- Pardon for your time.
- Good luck, man.
- Yeah, thank you.
Okay, stand up.
It's confirmed that you have to go to jail on your warrant.
Let's talk about what you're looking at otherwise,Attack.
- Push, hit, kick, you? What'd she do? - Yeah.
Pushed, hit, kicked me, strangled-- - She pushed, hit, and kicked you? - Yeah.
How many times did she punch you? Uh at least four or five.
- At least four or five? Where at? - And I said-- right here.
Like, smacked me in the face, trying to grab me.
What was she angry about? Uh, 'cause I'm She can't stay here.
- Yeah.
- She was gonna move it to storage.
I helped her get all her stuff, I said, "But it's gotta be today.
" So you're having her kicked out or you're having her leave or whatever? - Her stuff was here and I said-- - No, no.
I'm just saying that's what she's angry about though - is 'cause now she has to leave.
- Right.
- I don't want her drugs in my house.
- I see.
- How long have you guys been together? - Uh, we had-- We've been apart since April, but we were together nine years off and on.
- Nine years together off and on? - Yeah.
She comes up with this thing "Well, you're gonna marry me.
" No, I'm not marrying you.
She started lying.
- Hold on.
She wanted you to marry her? - Yeah.
- So she was kinda going off on a few different things.
- Yeah.
Yeah.
She was going off on having to move out, - going off on you not marrying her - Right.
Right.
Right.
And I told her I was cleaning-- And so now she starts attacking you because you won't marry her.
Yeah.
She's apparently schizophrenic and got four personalities.
- Okay.
- Okay, so I don't know who stepped out of here.
That sounds like a problem, so yeah, do me a favor.
Hang tight, stay here with my partner.
I want you to stay seated, okay? - Yeah.
No problem.
- Just give me a sec.
Okay, so he's trying to send you off to go get pimped you guys you refused to go with him, right? That's when he grabbed me and the dresser fell down.
And then he got on top of me.
You go to grab the phone off this counter - Not off the counter.
- No? - In the drawer.
- In the drawer.
So he was trying to force her to go to a pimp's house, punches her in the nose because she doesn't wanna go.
She doesn't have any marks on her nose.
She doesn't want medical attention.
She said she goes to call the police, reaches for her phone that's in the desk, he pushes the desk down, throws her on the ground.
That's when we came in.
- That's not what he's saying.
- Do we have any witnesses? - No.
- They didn't see nothing? There might be some people out here on the steps here, but let me go see what they got to say, but I don't think so.
- Okay.
All right.
- So I'll go find out though for you.
- Is she done? - Yeah.
- Hello.
- How are you doing, Officer? Doing okay.
Hey, what did you see? Um, well, starting earlier, before, she hit on him during the daytime.
How'd she hit him? In the face, in the chest, in the arm? It was in the chest.
She hasn't punched him-- I haven't seen her punch him in the face yet.
- She punched him one time in the chest? - Yes.
- She's very violent.
- Was it playful, or was it actually, like-- - Absolutely not.
This chick is violent and loud.
- Yeah? If you were to ask anybody around here, she goes off at the drop of a dime.
And then tonight, she throws a beer at him, and she hits him, she pulled the dresser down on him-- So you saw her-- How many times did you see her hit him? Um, I went to go get my phone to call you guys, but I mean, I'd say a couple.
You know, she doesn't stay here.
They're not together.
This is all her junk that he helped her move.
He's very respectful and she just kept coming at him.
She's red with rage, so he restrained her because if I get involved in some kind of argument between us He didn't hit her, he didn't do nothing else, but she's just constantly going at him, so he's You know, she was on the floor.
She didn't hit her head up against anything 'cause I'm sitting here listening, and as we're waiting for you guys, she says, "I'm gonna tell the cops this.
I'mma tell the cops that.
" So, I made sure to stay here to make sure I heard what happened.
- Oh, I see.
- So yeah.
Exactly.
So while this was happening, she was saying that? Yeah, while she's being restrained, "I'm gonna tell them this and this.
" You know, imaginary stuff so that he gets in trouble.
But I am assuring you he has done nothing wrong.
- I see.
Okay.
- I think she calmed down when I said the police are coming.
Okay.
Just hang tight for us for a little bit.
Let me go talk to my partner and we'll be back here, okay? - Okay.
- All righty.
Thank you.
No problem.
- Get up.
- Woman: He banged my face into the thing.
Do me a favor and face the wall.
Separate your feet for me.
Put your hands behind your back.
Both of them.
Put them together.
You're being arrested for battery domestic violence, ma'am.
- What? How is that-- - Battery and domestic violence.
- Is he being arrested? - No, he's not.
I will be taking this to court.
- Man: I'm glad you got her.
- Absolutely.
Um, do yourself a favor and try to get out of that relationship.
I'm gonna get my ass kicked in a second, man.
Oh, is that right? (Indistinct) In fact, you gotta see the Nike print in here, okay, man? She's gonna put a Nike print on your butt? Just hang tight for us for a little bit - and we'll be right back, all right? - No problem.
Thanks, man.
Let me talk with her when she's back there.
Go ahead and have a seat.
- Watch your head.
- Hey, ma'am? Let me talk to you real quick.
What happened tonight? He hit me in my nose and that's when I did throw my beer on him.
- I don't want to be over to somebody's house I don't know.
- Understandable.
I don't want to be treated like that.
Listen, the next door neighbor was telling us that you were yelling that you're gonna make stuff up to us, and I just want you to be straight with me-- You know what? I want to take a lie detector.
Why was it that you would say that you would make up stuff to us? All you can do is give me a lie detector test, and that's all I can do, okay? I don't know.
He did punch me in my nose.
Here's the deal.
You're getting arrested for battery domestic violence, okay? My partner already told you this, okay? It's time to get away from him and try to get away from this relationship.
It sounds like it's not working, okay? All righty.
Let's have a seat.
She said that she was mixing alcohol with painkillers and heroin, so - Tends to do that.
- Well, yeah.
It looks like she came down, thankfully, and love gone bad, man.
I've seen it before.
Officer over radio: 132 and Bush.
I've got him at gunpoint.
Dispatcher: Okay, gunpoint, 132 and Bush.
Cover is Code Three.
