Earth: Final Conflict s04e02 Episode Script

The Sins Of The Father

Previously on Gene Roddenberry's Earth Final Conflict: I'm Mikael Federov.
As you say, he is a criminal.
Backed by a massive nuclear arsenal, Federov must be taken seriously.
You and I can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement.
Do we have a deal? This is Kriss.
Unfortunately, it is now the only way the Taelons can survive on our planet.
What you see here is the Taelons' Achilles' heel.
If the Resistance discovers this unfortunate dependency all Earth-based Taelons will be in peril.
Reverend Murray and his missionaries are harvesting Kriss in other facilities around the world.
We no longer have missionaries harvesting Kriss on Earth.
So, you know, really, it's the literacy program.
It really makes me proud.
We actually have 3rd graders who are reading Proust.
And this is all thanks to the new Taelon interface.
Now, when I first met with the Synod, I was telling them what was top on my list.
As long as I am a senator, kids come first.
I'll see you later.
Where is he? Where is he? Hey, Eva! Eva! How could you do this to me? Tell me! Tell me why you did it? Come on, kid.
Put down the gun.
- You deserve to die.
- Listen to your father They have come to Earth with the promise of peace.
An alien race called the Taelons.
But, there are those who resist these Alien Companions.
For the Taelons' true mission, the secrets they hide will forever alter our world.
The fate of humanity now relies on those who dare challenge the future of Earth.
There's gotta be an easier way for Hubble to contact us.
Afraid of losing? Whose losing? Random encounters like this would stand the least chance of detection.
You do seem to be in a bit of a pickle.
Oh, everyone's a critic.
Now, if you kindly activate your scramblers, you should be able to hear me.
Loud and clear.
What have you got? You know senator Edward Gale? Yep.
We've met.
He's a Taelon puppet, rubber stamps anything they want.
There was a bit of a domestic disturbance at his home last night.
His daughter Eva shot him.
I heard she didn't like his politics, but that's a bit extreme.
How's he doing? He'll recover.
It's Eva we're concerned about.
It seems she was taken to County General and tested for controlled substances.
It's a routine procedure, but something in her bloodstream flagged the Substance Abuse Cooperative.
The what? A new Volunteer agency.
It watches the watchers.
Indeed.
The initial test results, which we intercepted, show that Miss Gale tested positive for Kriss.
- What? - Kriss? We shut down Taelons' Kriss facility 8 months ago.
Taelons went on record saying they found a way to synthesize Kriss without enslaving humans.
So, they lied.
What's new.
Eva disappeared 3 weeks ago, supposedly, she was on an archeological dig in Palestine.
Well, if there was Kriss in her system, she wasn't on a dig, she was used as a Kriss slave.
We need you to prove it.
I believe you have the opportunity for a five-way jump.
Hey! That's cheating! Eva Gale? Who are you? A friend.
I don't have friends.
Maybe it's time to make one.
I shot my father, because I hate him, not because I'm spaced-out on drugs.
He's a miserable dishonest hypocrite.
He loves the Taelons, because they made him rich, not because they help society.
He doesn't give a damn about anybody but himself.
Hey, look, look, look.
I know what's it like to have a father you can't trust.
It's like you've got this gaping hole inside of you.
No matter how hard you try, you can't fill it.
Ever.
He wasn't always like this.
But after my mother died, the only thing that mattered to him was money and power.
I miss my mom.
Is that why you went to Palestine? To get away from your father? Partly.
My father's on an Intelligence Subcommittee.
He's made a regular practice of leaking information to the Volunteers.
I went to Palestine to warn one of the cells he targeted.
Where did you go after you left Palestine? I don't remember.
Eva, have you ever heard something called Kriss? No.
Does this look familiar to you? What do you see? Volunteers, they beat us.
I didn't want to go with them.
Where did they take you? - I can't remember.
- Come on, come on.
You have to try.
I was somewhere in space.
I was angular, primitive.
- I don't know how to describe it.
- Angular? Like how? Like There were like tubes and pipes and I can picture.
I just, I don't know how to describe it.
Maybe you can draw it.
Eva? Aren't you gonna introduce me to your friend? Major Liam Kincaid, Companion Protector.
Oh, we met last year at the Senate.
I was with Da'an.
Ah, yes, of course.
When I heard about your situation I was concerned about Eva.
And about you.
Oh, I'll be fine.
Certainly, the police are being understanding.
As soon as Eva finishes detox, we're gonna get out of here, we're gonna go home.
And we're gonna work things out.
Are we? Am I right, Eva? Well, I certainly appreciate your interest, Major.
This is a private facility, and I'm paying a premium to make sure that my daughter isn't disturbed.
I'm sure she's touched by your compassion.
It's nice meeting you, Eva.
- Senator.
- Major.
Freedom Space Station.
Eva sketched it from memory.
Powers that be were about to deorbit Freedom.
Until Senator Gale got Congress to sell it to Mikael Federov for a dime on a dollar.
He took it out of moth balls and This is what it looks like today.
After Federov got the Taelons to give him an artificial gravity generator.
He's in business with the Taelons? He's running a Volunteer training facility.
The bidding for that contract was fierce.
Well, the training facility's holographic.
Exactly, so the savings are fantastic.
Federov is a business genius.
Maybe he's hiding a Kriss factory up there.
I wouldn't put it past him.
It is an extremely profitable venture.
Yes, go ahead, rub it in.
Alright.
You want rain, I'll give you the rain.
You want night? I flip a switch and voila.
You simply tell me how many stars to put in your sky.
And if you want war.
.
You can have full-scale wargames with weapons too dangerous to use on Earth.
The walls in the pod absorb the impact.
Impressive.
- Can we get closer? - Yes.
We can.
So I can see your technology in action.
I wish I could oblige, but the training camp is off limits.
The Taelons don't even like me up here.
Well, then, how about a tour of the old Space Station? I'm afraid it's not safe.
You know, Mikael, it seems like an utter waste to squander such advanced technology on something so uninspired.
I agree.
However, I do find a 3.
2 billion dollar contract quite inspiring.
True, but think of the possibilities for virtual vacations alone.
what we could get on a coventure.
It's very tempting.
I My apologies.
Captain Flannery here, sir.
I'm on approach.
Excuse me a moment.
Of course.
Continue, Captain.
I have 5 new recruits to process for training.
Is my friend aboard the shuttle? Yes, sir, he says it's urgent you see him immediately.
- Tell him he will have to wait.
- I did, sir.
Then what is the problem? He's getting pretty impatient.
I understand, Captain, I will meet you there.
An urgent matter has arisen.
Perhaps, we could continue our conversation over a dinner.
At my chateau on Saine, perhaps.
I'll check my schedule.
- A bientot.
- A bientot.
Not so fast, my eager friend.
As long as you are feeding your addiction to Kriss it costs me dearly to pay people to look the other way.
Which means, from now on my price to cater to your cravings must double.
It is a pleasure doing business with you.
Well, whatever he's up to, it must be big.
Mikael's not usually in such a hurry to get rid of me.
Well, maybe you're losing your touch.
I did some number crunching.
This is Federov's bid for the training pod contract.
And these are the actual numbers from the first two quarters.
triple his projection.
He's good, but not that good.
Which means he might be using the training base for something else.
Like a Kriss facility for the Taelons.
Well, he told me the old Space Station wasn't being used, but there was a Taelon shuttle docking outside.
I ran a check on the pilot.
Captain Michael Flannery, utility shuttle pilot with mother ship access.
And chief training officer for the Freedom Volunteer camp.
- He's worth investigating.
- Yeah.
Did you come up with anything on that Resistance cell in Palestine? A list of names, but I can't crack the confidentiality codes.
I emailed the list to Street, maybe she can come up with something.
Well, I need to get back on that Space Station.
That was too soon.
Federov will be suspicious.
Ah, no, not this time.
I've already set up an identity as Volunteer Joan Dearborn.
And how do you gain access to the rest of the station? Well, I managed to acquire Federov's personal code.
And if he seizes you? He says he never goes up there.
And if he catches me, I'll just tell him I was spying for Doors.
All's fair in love and industrial espionage.
Alright, but wait till I hear form Street.
If I can corroborate Eva's story, then you go in.
- Hey! Check these out! Holo emitters! - No.
Latest technology, I can give it to you half priced.
- Fractal - No, thanks.
Nice jacket.
Don't you believe in checking your messages? I figured you'd show if you needed face time.
What's up? I was hoping you might have done some research on that list of names I sent you.
I did.
If money's the issue I'll gladly pay you for your trouble.
Don't worry about it.
This is a favor.
Although, I really like that jacket.
The jacket is yours.
Cool! What do you have for me? Well.
Out of 12 names you gave me 8 of them are dead.
Although, their bodies were never recovered, which personally, makes me suspicious.
And the rest? like the Gale chick.
Though, I don't think any of them were using blood relatives for target practice.
What about the fourth? Lucas Walker.
He's a sanitation engineer in Detroit.
This is everything you'll need to know.
Nice shirt.
I'm not taking off my shirt.
Can't blame a girl for trying.
- Liam Kincaid, Companion Protector.
- I don't care who you are! - Visiting is restricted.
- This will only take a minute.
- We don't allow unauthorized visitors.
- Official Taelon business.
- I'm calling security.
- Liam Listen, I only have 2 minutes before security throws me out.
I'm glad to see you.
I talked to Lucas Walker, he backed up everything you said.
Only he was one of the rejects.
The rest of you were abducted as Kriss slaves.
My father just wants me to forget about everything.
He wouldn't even talk to me about it.
He's terrified of what the Taelons would do if he says anything.
Maybe he's right.
Well, the Taelons violated you.
And they will keep doing it to others unless you stop them.
I don't know.
I don't wanna talk about it.
I've been there, Eva, to their first Kriss farm.
I've been through it.
Remember the needle? You have the scar, don't you? Please, just let me go back to sleep.
Show me the scar.
Please.
Stay away from me! It's no one there.
Do you remember this man? No, I'm not sure.
- I don't want to talk about it.
- Just try, try.
Does he look familiar? Get him out of here.
Eva, is this the man? The shuttle! Is this the man who took you there? Use the neural suppressor.
Give her 20 cycles.
- No! - That's him, that's the pilot.
No! I don't know you.
Name? Dearborn, sir.
Unit 322 out of Boise.
These are my orders.
Elite training? You don't look like you're up to it.
If you got a problem with me, sir, I'm happy to get the next shuttle out of here.
Alright, Dearborn, report to barracks on the double.
Yes, sir! - You knew, didn't you? - Major! You know, the police Commissioner is a very good friend of mine, I should have no trouble obtaining a restraining order against you.
How did you get in here? Answer me! You knew about the Kriss farm.
You backed Federov's project every step of the way.
You get out before I get you thrown out.
I checked your voting record.
You lobbied Congress to sell Freedom to Federov for a song.
Even altered the bill.
And I would do it again, because Freedom is useless dinosaur.
It was obsolete the minute the Taelons arrived.
Our country wasted millions of dollars keeping it in moth balls.
How much does Federov pay you to keep your mouth shut and look the other way, while the Taelons stock their Kriss farm with human slaves? If Federov is operating a Kriss farm on that space station I certainly didn't know about it.
Didn't, but you do now.
Your own daughter was enslaved there.
I never did that to Eva.
The only one who hurt her, Major, was you.
Whatever happened, she'd forgotten about it until you forced her to remember.
You know, neural suppression is a radical treatment.
You left me no choice but to put her through that.
No, what I did, was help her remember the truth.
And when she puts the pieces together, you better have some answers for her.
Intruder alert in Sector 5! Intruder alert in Sector 5! Halt! How did you make out with Flannery? The nano-locator you put on his shuttle worked like a charm.
This is the record of his movements.
His shuttle left DC last night, landed at a Volunteer base in Buenos Aires.
Then he took it off the military tracking net.
Sneaky.
He landed in Los Legos, a village in the jungle.
This morning 17 people were missing.
Any explanation? Well, the official report says they were kidnapped by neighboring villagers over a mineral rights dispute.
It's original.
Flannery flew non-stop to the Freedom and left with an empty shuttle.
Well This is probably where they wound up.
Federov is definitely making Kriss inside one of the sections he posted as off limits.
I think it's time I have a talk with Da'an.
I wouldn't do that if I were you.
I was saving this for last.
You're not gonna like it.
Taelons only need 10 milligrams of Kriss a day.
It's a hell of a lot more than 10 milligrams.
It doesn't make any sense.
Kriss is like a vaccine.
All it does is help them adapt to Earth's atmosphere.
There's absolutely no reason to take so much.
At least, not a good one.
I'm sorry, Chairman Federov is still unavailable.
I will call back then.
Anything I should know about? - Are you spying on me, Major? - Spying? I just asked a simple question.
And I had given you a simple answer.
I do not wish to be disturbed.
You sound upset.
That is because I am fatigued.
And I do not wish to waste my time by answering your pointless questions.
- If there's something wrong - Leave me alone.
Did you not hear me? - We need to talk.
- How dare you! Why is Federov supplementing you Kriss a lot lately? Relinquish the vial at once! Don't want to tell me? Fine.
Then I'll go ask Zo'or.
No! No, Zo'or must not know Da'an? Da'an, can you hear me? Da'an! Renee, get Dr.
Curzon over here right away.
The Taelons are extremely pleased that their partnership with the Free Republic of Rostok has been a successful one.
As am I.
In fact, Zo'or has suggested that you increase capacity.
I believe the output was down 15% last month, which is even worth than the month before.
Tell Zo'or I am taking steps to increase capacity.
The last batch produces sub-standard product.
A recruit actually returned to Earth.
That was unfortunate.
There will be no more escapes.
In the future, avoid high-profile candidates.
Recruiting Eva Gale was a serious mistake.
If she hadn't been carrying false identity documents she never would've been recruited.
From now on we will also be conducting identity checks.
Now, is there anything else on your laundry list, Agent Sandoval? I'm concerned that the Senator has lost allegiance to the Taelons, considering what you've done to his daughter.
The Senator will keep his mouth shut.
I had the chance to speak to him this morning and I convinced him that since his daughter was home safe and sound, he should do everything to keep it that way.
In any case, I'm having her watched.
We might get the opportunity to remove the problem entirely.
What's the prognosis? Dr.
Curzon says Da'an's suffering from a toxic reaction to an overdose of Kriss.
He needs his 10 milligrams.
Why would he take more? We don't know.
As a stimulant maybe.
If that's the case, we would be talking about dependency.
Or we can assume that.
What Curzon does say that toxin level in his system will kill him if he keeps it up.
Will he recover? Curzon's formulated a synthetic Kriss he can take without a toxic reaction.
It's not as powerful.
Hopefully, it'll do the job.
So, it took a human to create synthetic Kriss when the Taelons weren't willing to do it.
Shows you, once again, just how much they really care about us.
Liam, it's Eva.
I couldn’t stay at Solstice anymore.
They hooked me up to that machine.
It's all my father's fault.
I know I'm being followed.
Everything's gonna be alright, just stay where you are.
I'm tracking you right now.
Liam? Dammit! Hey! Do we have a deal? Come on! I gave you a good price! - Did you get a lock? - No, wait, wait More or less.
I know she's in the fringes.
Over there.
Stay down.
Let her go! Eva, run! It's okay.
Take it easy.
It's alright.
Everything's okay.
While I appreciate your summoning Dr.
Curzon, it really was not necessary.
I was extremely necessary.
You nearly killed yourself.
My consciousness simply entered an altered state.
The condition is typical when a Taelon experiences a depletion of energy.
I know about your little arrangement with Federov.
That was you on the space station yesterday.
You're abusing Kriss.
Where did you get the gold to pay for your habit? I I have borrowed it from Zo'or.
And what Zo'or's gonna say when he finds out about it? - I will suffer the consequences.
- It's toxic, Da'an! You had to know that.
Why poison yourself? As you are aware, there is a finite amount of Taelon core energy, which is our life force.
I decided to conduct a personal experiment to see if large amounts of Kriss could supplement my energy levels.
- Why Kriss? - It used to be our food, before we evolved into what you see before you.
And, while the experiment was a success, unfortunately, I began to crave it in greater and greater amounts.
We humans call that an addiction.
Taelons have never experienced such a condition.
Take my word for it, if you continue to abuse Kriss, it'll kill you.
Without Kriss I cannot survive.
Dr.
Curzon formulated a synthetic substitute.
Use it.
The only way you're going to save yourself is if you never use real Kriss again.
How do humans resist temptation? Some find the will from within, some never do.
Halt! No admittance.
Security protocol is in effect.
I'm Renee Palmer.
Chairman Federov is supposed to meet me here for lunch.
Agent Sandoval! What I received an encrypted call from you less than an hour ago.
I placed no such call.
You said that it was urgent that I meet you here.
Sounds like you overbooked your schedule.
Miss Palmer! Why are you here? Your secretary asked me to meet you for lunch.
The guard showed me where to find you.
Agent Sandoval, nice to see you.
Lunch? That could not be.
Well, I kept the message.
There is a security breach.
Warning, emergency depressurization will commence in 30 seconds.
Proceed immediately to pressure-safe area.
Quickly, come this way! Quickly.
We must hurry! Quickly! This way.
So this is why production was down last month.
Surely you can see I have been framed.
New Commonwealth Bank.
This ingot is from a cash of gold on the mother ship, Federov.
A cash to which someone has apparently been helping themselves.
We've done business together before, Agent Sandoval.
Perhaps, we can could come to an understanding that would prove mutually beneficial.
Daddy.
Eva! Thank God you're alright.
The director at Solstice told me you'd disappeared I I had the police looking for you everywhere.
Major Kincaid found me.
If it weren't for him, I'd probably be dead.
Well, I mean, you're here now.
That's all that matters, honey.
Why did you sacrifice me to the Taelons, daddy? Honey, I told you I had no idea what they were doing.
That's because you closed your eyes.
You made it possible for them to do whatever they want including what you did to me.
You put yourself in harm's way.
Well, if you haven't stolen my papers and gone to the aid of the Resistance none of this would've happened.
Oh, so it's my fault? It's my fault you stuck me in rehab? You were out of control, I had no idea what you were gonna do next.
Or what she might say, right? In her condition? Yes, she was delusional.
I had to be careful.
It always comes down to your image, doesn't? Well, after tonight your precious image will be ruined.
The whole world will know that you sacrificed humanity to the Taelons.
You're being a little dramatic, don't you? No, she's not.
Federov confessed to everything.
To running the Kriss facility, to paying you off to do the Taelons' bidding.
- It's his word against mine.
- Zo'or already admitted it.
He claims a rogue group of Taelons hired Federov to run a Kriss farm.
How does this implicate me in any way? The bank records have already been traced to you, Senator.
The Attorney General is expecting you to surrender sometime this afternoon.
The important thing is that there will never be another Kriss slave.
Eva, you've got to believe me.
I've never meant for any of this to happen.
I'll leave you two alone.
I planted these roses the day you were born.
They remind me of you.
Delicate, beautiful.
If I thought that anyone would ever harm my precious child Oh, Eva.
Please, don't say you're sorry.
Can you ever forgive me? Can you ever forgive yourself? No, never.
That's the start.
Senator Edward Gale was arrested today on charges of influence peddling on behalf of Taelons.
Earlier this year the Senator facilitated the sale of the Freedom Space Station to Mikael Federov, who was also arrested in connection with running an illegal Kriss facility.
Shame about Senator Gale, wouldn't you agree, Da'an? As a friend and supporter of the Taelons his influence is will surely be missed.
Speaking of criminals, Michael Federov told me a very interesting story before he was shipped to Antarctica.
Care for some? It's the human Kriss, pure Kriss.
Not that pitiful substitute created by Dr.
Curzon.
Zo'or has ordered the Taelons to accept the substitute, but you don't need to.
Please.
Take it away.
- Just a little taste.
- Take it away.
