Hangar 1: The UFO Files (2014) s02e06 Episode Script

Hunted By UFOs

January 14, 2002.
The Big Sandy region, Kentucky.
A coal train is traveling from Russell, Kentucky when one of the two conductors on board a train spots a light up ahead on an oncoming track.
The conductor kills his lights so that the oncoming crew isn't blinded.
The conductors expect to see a train when they round the bend, but that's not what happens.
What they do see astounds them.
To the right of the tracks are two unidentified objects hovering over the river.
These craft appear to be scanning the river with spotlights, and they seem to be approaching their train.
The conductors' surprise at seeing these objects quickly turns to fear when it seems that they are now targeting the train.
As the UFOs move towards the train, the conductors notice some unusual characteristics unlike anything they have ever seen.
The UFOs look like metallic silver disks.
They don't have any visible windows, but the base is covered in colored lights.
The disc measures about 10 feet high and approximately 18-20 feet in diameter.
With the UFOs in clear view, the train begins to malfunction.
Suddenly the train's computers start flashing in and out, and the speedometer goes berserk.
The conductors have no idea what's happening and are completely unprepared for what takes place next.
One of the conductors notices another light coming straight at them.
That light in front of them turns out to be a third UFO, and as they round a corner it's headed right towards them.
There is no time to react.
Were these UFOs intentionally pursuing this train? Or was it simple curiosity gone wrong? Hangar 1's files contain hundreds of reports of UFOs that appear to target specific objects and individuals.
You question whether you are chosen.
Is this a random event or is this something that is actually personal to me? Is it possible that some pele are actually hunted by UFOs? Could you be next? MUFON opens their most terrifying UFO pursuits right now.
The Mutual UFO Network, known as MUFON, is an independent organization, not bound to any government.
They investigate reports of UFO sightings from around the world.
Over the past 5 decades, they have collected more than 70,000 files secured at a location known as Hangar 1.
Now, MUFON is granting access to their vast archive.
These are the files of Hangar 1.
Inside Hangar 1, MUFON files contain many incidents of UFO chases.
While some of these pursuits seem non-threatening, others have resulted in violent and dangerous encounters.
Such is the case of a Kentucky coal train that was not only pursued, but hit by a UFO.
What was this UFO targeting and why? And would the aftermath provide any answers? The Conductors fear for their lives when the UFO hits the train.
They hear the sound of scraping metal, but the train's momentum keeps it barreling forward until it finally stops two miles up the tracks.
The train sustains serious damage from the impact.
The conductors look up and the other two UFOs are still hovering in the distance.
Of course they're wondering if these things are going to come back for more What I want to know about these crafts that are frightening people and putting on light displays, is what in the world is the purpose of such an agenda? Why is something flying towards a train like that? The train is now sitting outside Russell Kentucky, smoke pouring out from the impact, and the conductors are feeling lucky to be alive.
The conductors at this point can't even comprehend what just happened.
A UFO just crashed into their train! And seeing those two UFOs still hovering in the distance, the conductors brace themselves for a possible second encounter.
But suddenly, the two UFOs that had appeared along their side vanish into thin air.
With the UFOs now gone, the conductors feel safe enough to inspect the train and assess the damage.
The second locomotive was completely demolished and smoking.
The two cars looked as though an enormous hammer had struck them.
It's unbelievable to think that a UFO encounter could end up with such destrucon.
But in their initial inspection, the conductors didn't se any sign of any UFO wreckage.
The conductors have no idea why they were attacked, and are puzzled by what kind of craft could escape undamaged after hitting the train.
The conductors call their dispatcher in Jacksonville, Florida to report what happened.
The dispatcher instructs them to try to make it to Paintsville yard, a station that's no longer in use.
The abandoned station.
to And when they arrive, eye stunned.
This station was no longer in use, so they're totally surprised to suddenly see all of this personnel and activity there.
As soon as they pull into the station, an army of workers immediately start taking apart the train.
The only thing missing are railroad officials, who are nowhere to be found.
A well-orchestrated operation is now underway to investigate the scene.
While the conductors expected that the focus would be on what collided with the train, they never imagined that the investigation would shift to themselves.
Was the UFO more interested in the conductors than the train it hit? A guy by the name of Patterson greets the train conductors and brings them into what used to be the old yard office.
The conductors are questioned in detail about their terrifying encounter.
This maPattson tells them that they'll have to undergo a series of questions and mandatory medical tests for their own protection before they are permitted to leave.
Mandatory medical tests? This is almost as if they already knew that these kind of pursuits had happened to others and knew what kind of dangers these conductors were exposed to.
Were they zapped when the UFO zeroed in on them? Were the UFOs targeting the conductors all along? And if so why? If we were a spacefaring race, what would we do? And what do we do with animals when we study animals? Pe th, we capture them, we experiment on them, so it is not outside the range of scientific fact that we would do the same thing.
So why wouldn't they do it? That's how I look at that.
When the conductors finally leave, now they're worried that if they go public with their experience, they might face ridicule, or even lose their jobs.
Instead, they file an anonymous report with MUFON.
This is a difficult case to investigate because now, no one is talking.
But we have been able to corroborate the details, so we do know that a train traveling this route on that day did encounter problems at the times described.
And interestingly, this event occurred in the Big Sandy region of Eastern Kentucky, which has long been a hotspot for UFO activity.
As we watch the skies for signs of UFOs, are they actually watching us, waiting to make their move? And are there patterns to be found through different individuals who have been pursued by these craft? There's a range of this, these encounters.
And some people feel it seems to be personally tracking you.
This is frightening.
What your gonna y in hindsight, "Why me?" Up next, two women find themselves chased by a UFO.
And later, generations of the same family are hunted.
Blasts of searing hot air radiate from the UFO's base.
The incredible details when we return.
Thousands of UFO encounters are reported every year, many that involve witnesses who claimed to be pursued by aggressive flying objects.
And in some cases, the victims suffer lasting emotional and physical damage.
MUFON investigators are looking for patterns, hoping to find answers that will reveal why some people may actually be targeted by UFOs.
Spring, 1995.
Wedowee, Alabama.
At 7 pm in the evening, six women are traveling to their weekly bingo game in Anniston, just North of Wedowee, Alabama.
62-year-old Barbara Smith, a tirenurse's aide, is with her five fellow church members, driving in a van.
Smith and her friends make this tp to Aisn weekly, so they're very familiar with this route.
As they pass by a local poultry plant, ove the buildingrge light they've never seen before.
Just as one of the witnesses inside the van comments that the poultry plant owner must have put up a new lighstaltion on the proy, the light begins to move.
This light, that everyone in the van saw, suddenly transforms into a moving orb of light.
The orb travels toward the roadway and actually starts keeping pace with the van.
As they continue to drive, the orb's altitude is changing frequently, but it mainly stays to one side of the van, the side Smith happens to be sitting on.
Now the orb is making rapid movements and getting as close as 50 feet from the van.
It's dropping down to their eye level, shooting back up above the trees.
These women are scared.
They've never seen anything like this.
Until now the women thought they were safe inside the van, but start to believe they are actually being pursued and targeted by this light.
As the van continues down the road, the mysterious orb suddenly shines an intense bright beam of light directly where Smith and her friend are sitting.
When this beam shines into Smith's window, she sees something totally bizarre.
Smith sees what she describes as a peculiar little man projected within the light.
Smith's friend also sees a figure within the light.
The passengers are terrified.
No one knows exactly what's going on.
It's chaos.
I have actually experienced something very similar to this where as soon as we noticed this thing, it seemed to zoom right in on us.
This is frightening to think about.
Why me? The chase continues for miles, until the van arrives at an intersection.
When they get to the intersection, as quickly as the light came upon them, it suddenly disappears.
The women say the light vanished behind a field.
Smith states that the light launched up at a steep angle leaving a streak through the sky.
The bright orb may have ended its pursuit, but for two of the women, the ordeal is far from over.
Here's what's even more incredible.
The next morning, Smith has dark circles on her cheeks and blisters on her eyes.
And her eyes have changed color.
They've been brown her whole life, and now one is blue and the other is green.
And for nearly three weeks after the incident, she has constant migraines.
Smith isn't the only witness physically affected by this encounter.
Smith calls the woman who sat on her side of the van during the incident and asks if she's experiencing any issues since the sighting.
Her friend confirms that she has, and both witnesses decide to receive medical attention at theocal hospital.
Whatever energy source they are using may possess the potential to cause real physical damage such as burning and radiation.
And it's the unlucky few individuals who get close enough and suffer these consequences.
Despite the physical effects these women experienced, some experts explain the orb as possibly being a case of ball lightning.
Ball lightning is one of those interesting atmospheric effects that we still don't fully understand.
It generally occurs in thunderstorms after lightning strikes, and it basically is what it sounds like.
It's a glowing ball of light and electrical discharge and energy.
I have seen statistics like 1 in 30 people will see it in their life.
Maybe 1 in 100.
However, during their encounter, none of the witnesses or the weather service reported any thunderstorms in the area.
It's very difficult to suggest this mysterious light could be anything man-made or any explainable natural phenomenon.
othi we of with the ability to cause such physical damage as Smith described or travel at varying speeds over an extended period of time.
This unusual orb-like craft chased the van intentionally and it's impossible to explain the entities that the women saw within the light.
But without question, this object seemed to exhibit some form of heightened intelligence.
Stories like these are frightening.
It makes you wonder, how many other encounters like these have there been where people are afraid to come forward out of fear of being ridiculed or other repercussions.
You also have to wonder, if this can happen to you once, can it happen again? As MUFON investigates further, it seems that not only individuals can be targeted, but entire families as well.
Up next, a family fishing trip turns horribly wrong.
They're frantically trying to reach the shoreline before this UFO can When we return, Hangar 1 digs deeper to determine what attracts aggressive UFOs, and if you could be next.
Within MUFON's seventy thousand case files, there are many accounts of terrifying pursuits, people who report being hunted by UFOs.
Is it possible that some UFOs are targeting specific individuals? And if so, why? One case file reveals the extraordinary experiences of a New England family that has been hunted by UFOs for decades.
Summer, 1967.
Lyford Pond, New Hampshire.
Fourteen-year-old, Tom Shilling, is visiting his cousin in Belmont, New Hampshire.
The two boys are going on a fishing trip to Lyford Pond.
The boys are fishing for catfish with their uncles at a pond near Belmont.
A thick fog hangs a few hundred feet above the pond.
Tom notices as the fog rolls in, everything seems to become very still.
Similar to the calm before a storm.
Tom's uncles start looking around nervously.
Tom isn't sure why they are acting so strange, until very abruptly, his uncles tell them it's time to leave.
At that moment, Tom spots something odd.
In the distance, there's a golden glow coming from the creek that feeds into the pond.
This light hovers about 15 feet above the water.
It's moving very slowly, and then it starts to pulsate, emitting a very low tone.
The uncles are now desperate to get the boys to safety.
The uncles now have the boat going as fast as it can.
Tom watches the light as it gets closer and closer.
It's dodging overhanging branches, and it's even moving between the trees close to the shoreline.
And at this point, the light's only about 75 feet behind them when they finally reach the shore.
Once on shore, the uncles know they have to move quickly.
John and Bill yell at the boys to jump into their truck.
Behind them they see that the light suddenly stops and redirects itself on a path towards their truck.
As they take off down the road, Tom keeps an eye on the light from the back of the truck.
When they round the first bend in the road, he sees the light leaving the shoreline and picking up speed.
Everyone in the truck is terrified that this UFO actually seems to be out to get them.
The uncles are now gunning the truck at 50 mph, but the UFO is right behind them.
It makes a sharp right angle turn and shoots straight up into the sky.
Everyone in the truck breathes a sigh of relief.
What's interesting about this case is that both uncles seemed to know that something was coming, and that it was bad news for them.
You have to ask if they were being targeted for some reason.
It turns out, this isn't the first time the family has experienced this kind of terror.
MUFON investigated this case in 1981 and, in fact, we found that the Shilling family had a long history of close encounters with UFOs in New Hampshire, which explains the uncle's reaction.
Since about 1930, multiple members of the Shilling family have had experiences with UFOs.
In fact, almost every single male in the Shilling family has had at least one UFO encounter.
It's difficult to know what these UFOs are after, but there definitely seem to be patterns here.
Up next Another Shilling family member's joy ride becomes a nightmare And later, a dangerous police helicopter pursuit leads investigators to consider a disturbing new theory.
These entities that are coming here may not all be benevolent scientists, for example.
This might not be a sanctioned activity.
Hangar 1 files contain many incredible cases that involve the pursuit of vehicles and individuals by UFOs.
Some of these cases reveal patterns that indicate certain individuals appear to have been hunted multiple times.
In fact, MUFON has one case that chronicles the history of a New Hampshire family that has been targeted by UFOs since the 1930s.
Summer, 1969.
Belmont, New Hampshire.
On a humid summer night, Sam Shilling is taking a joy ride through the dirt roads behind his uncle's home in Belmont.
Shilling turns up the radio and turns off his headlights, so he's driving only by the light of the full moon.
As Shilling takes a left-hand turn, he sees a faint light up ahead through a grove of trees.
It looks like a flare about 50 feet away.
All of a sudden, there is interference on Shilling's car radio.
The interference sounds like static noise and starts to get progressively louder.
Shilling makes a turn moving fairly fast at about 30 mph.
At this point, the noise on his car radio is unbearable.
Shilling rounds the corner and is stunned by what he sees.
Stretching across the entire road is a dark cigar-shaped object about 40 feet long.
It's just hovering there in the middle of the road.
The craft is cylindrical, and it has a thick leg-like device that angles out onto the ground.
Shilling realizes the massive craft isn't moving, and he's about to run right into it.
Shilling slams on his brakes, but it's too late and he skids a quarter of the way under the object.
As Shilling's car slides under the craft, his antenna strikes the metallic leg-like structure, creating the most unbelievable static upon contact.
Shilling tries to reverse, but he can't get it in gear.
He's fumbling with the shift and finally he's able to reverse his car just enough to snap the antenna back before the vehicle stalls.
Immediately the radio's interference stops.
But Shilling is still trapped under the UFO.
Schilling sees the pulsating lights of the craft getting closer.
Shilling is in a panic.
He knows he's being pinned down by some kind of UFO.
He doesn't want to leave the car and face this giant thing.
All this is racing through his mind in an instant, and he thinks, "This is it.
This is where I'm going to die.
" The UFO's lights pulse brighter.
To try to figure outwindow what the heck this object could possibly be.
Suddenly, Shilling feels intense heat coming through his windshield.
He hears a high-pitched whine that sounds like a table saw.
Shilling's windshield is now literally three feet below the UFO's base.
He sees a brilliant pulsating light at the bottom of the UFO.
It's as blinding as a welding torch.
The UFO begins to rise up, and Schilling decides to escape.
As Shilling jumps out of his car to make a run for it, blasts of searing hot air radiate from the UFO's base.
Shilling's caught in an intense whirlwind.
Shilling climbs back inside his car.
He again tries to move it out from under the UFO.
He's now able to throw the car into reverse, and he floors it.
The car spins backward about 40 feet and stalls out.
The brilliant light at the base of the UFO flares up for a second or two.
Instantly, there is a blinding flash and the UFO vanishes out of sight.
Shilling is just sitting in his car in disbelief.
He sees that the inside of his car is completely littered with pine needles and sand.
He estimates that the entire event lasted about 30-40 seconds.
The next day John's uncles drive to the sandpits to see if there is any trace of this incident, and they find that tree limbs and small birches in the area are now bent back from the UFO's blast.
They also find a circular depression about 16 inches in diameter and 4 inches deep in the spot where Shilling had seen the leg-like structure located.
Schilling's family is left wondering why UFOs are targeting them once again.
This resonates with me as an abduction encounter.
These beings, somehow they cherry pick.
They pick and choose.
And I think they enjoy this idea that we don't know who they are.
We see case after case where whole families, in some cases going back several generations have had these kinds of events, these encounters in their lives What is unbelievable to me is this.
I, and other researchers, too, I get hundreds of emails every single day with people that want to talk and tell me about their experiences in great detail.
They are totally scared.
But what are these witnesses afraid of? It's quite possible that these other cases of the conductors, the ladies, and the Shilling encounters were part of a bigger unsuccessful plan to abduct these victims.
Does this case suggest that the ultimate agenda in some of these UFO pursuits is abduction? Or could it be something else entirely? Up next The light size and intensity start to grow as it gets closer and closer to the camper.
When we return, one couple barely survives a camping trip, after they are hunted by a UFO.
Summer, 1968.
Roseville, California.
In the summer of 1968, Los Angeles police officer James Turner and his wife are driving their camper to Oregon for a fishing trip.
It's just after midnight, James reaches an isolated stretch of road and notices a bright white light in the sky that's keeping pace with his camper.
This light that James sees in the distance looks like a landing light on an airplane.
But then, all of a sudden, the light starts moving up and down in a way no aircraft is capable of.
This unusual light continues to pursue their camper down the road.
James keeps an eye on the strange light for the next four miles, when he notices three more lights on his right and left.
Now all of these lights are keeping pace with his camper.
James has a bad feeling about this.
He's thinking that some kind of intelligent craft is intentionally following his camper, and he has no idea why.
So he wakes up his wife to show her the lights because he's sure these aren't ordinary aircrafts.
James' wife dismisses her husband's story, until one of the lights starts moving directly towards them.
Suddenly, James and his wife start to panic.
They're in the middle of nowhere and something is tracking them.
The light's size and intensity start to grow as it gets closer and closer to the camper.
As it approaches, the light shines a bluish-green beam or cone-shaped light towards the ground.
Frightened, James pulls the camper over to the side of the road and leaves the headlights on and the motor running.
he shape of a cigar about 40-50 feet in length.
On either side, there are what appear to be two engines.
There aren't any wings or even a tail.
This is no conventional aircraft.
The object's speed is too slow for an ordinary airplane.
It's flying more like a helicopter, and its sound is unlike any helicopter or plane.
It mak Without thinking, James gets out of the camper to get a better look.
The UFO slowly flies over the camper, and it's huge.
James now has a really clear view and sees the sharply defined bluish-green beam is still shining onto the ground and covering an area of about 30-40 feet in diameter.
To the Turners' relief, the UFO appears to lose interest in them and floats over the highway until it disappears above the trees.
James can't believe what he has just seen.
He and his wife are trying to figure out what just happened, but they have no explanation.
Eventually, they resume driving, and at about 2 AM, they arrive at a rest stop in Roseville, California.
The Turners attempt to sleep, but the UFO soon returns.
Mrs.
Turner is woken by a loud whirring sound, and she immediately recognizes this as the same sound they heard coming from the UFO earlier that evening.
She can't make out any object, but she is sure that sound is coming from the sky directly above her.
It sounds like the UFO is hovering just above their camper, so she wakes up James yelling, "The thing has come back! The thing has come back!" James leaps up and runs out the camper, but as he is doing this, Mrs.
Turner notices the sound is already beginning to dissipate.
In the distance, James can see a dark object traveling away from the camper.
Once again, the Turners are relieved that the UFO did not cause any harm.
During the rest of their drive up to Oregon, they had no further encounters.
The Turners didn't tell a soul about this experience until James confided in a fellow LAPD officer who convinced them to file a report with MUFON.
It's especially difficult for people in positions of authority to come forward with these kinds of claims.
There's a real concern that their credibility could be harmed.
The credibility of these things are so often challenged, that all these people are delusional, they're crazy, they're hoaxing, they're lying.
This isn't something you talk about.
This wasn't going to be understood by anybody.
What I find with witnesses, whether it is law enforcement, a teacher, or just somebody that works in a factory, they're asking me who they can talk to.
And my advice, contact somebody locally.
Report it.
Contact MUFON.
These are important steps to take.
MUFON immediately investigates the Turners' case.
Our investigation didn't reveal any unusual electromagnetic or radiation readings on their camper, and unlike some other cases, the Turners didn't suffer any physical impairments after this encounter.
They were fortunate.
While the Turners might not have been physically harmed from the experience, they were still profoundly changed by the event.
There are very confusing aspects of these experiences, and the psychological impact of jusle things, the awakening that occurs when you realize that we are not alone in the universe, it is life changing.
It is life changing.
Up next, a police helicopter on patrol engages in a cat and mouse pursuit with an Unidentified Flying Object.
For the next 2 minutes the helicopter and the object are in total sync.
But is it all just fun and games for these UFOs? Inside Hangar 1, MUFON case files of UFO pursuits reveal patterns that suggest that some UFOs target specific individuals.
Some suffer physical damage from these encounters, while others are just scared and confused by the ordeal.
And these incidents aren't confined to just civilians.
In the late '70s, the Glendale California Police Department had a working relationship with MUFON, something that we share with many other law enforcement departments around the country.
They would call us if a UFO sighting came in, so that we could go out and investigate.
February 1, 1977.
Glendale, California.
On February 2, 1977, MUFON received a call from a Sgt.
Simpson, reporting that a police helicopter spotted an unusual object the previous evening.
Sgt.
Simpson reports that two of his helicopter pilots were rattled by an incident that occurred the day before.
Officers Roger Kane and Tim Jenkins are in their copter patrolling the Glendale area around 8:40pm.
Officer Kane spots what appears to be a fixed wing aircraft.
The two officers are struck by the object's odd behavior.
This craft is flying very low, about 200 feet below the helicopter, and moving fast at 100 miles per hour.
The helicopters are going about 60-70 miles per hour, so this thing was cruising.
They pursue the craft because nothing should be flying that low and that fast over a populated area.
The craft has one yellowish-white bright light, but no other identifiable navigation lights.
The officers quickly realize that this is not a normal aircraft.
After years on the force, these officers know how to recognize another pilot's flying lights.
Most of them are strobe lights, either red or white, and they're very identifiable.
This light was nothing like a strobe.
Suddenly, the unidentified object shoots up towards their helicopter at an alarming speed.
The object is now level with the helicopter.
And the pilots can see that this is something they have never seen before.
They also see an intense bright yellowish light that illuminates the entire craft from top to bottom.
The UFO begins to follow their helicopter's every move.
Concerned, the pilots bank the helicopter to the left, but amazingly, the object mimics the helicopter's move perfectly.
For the next 2 minutes the helicopter and the object are in total sync.
The officers attempt to contact dispatch, but their radio is no longer working.
Now they're starting to think is this UFO going to shoot them down? Is the helicopter going to malfunction? So out of fear, the pilots turn and head back to base.
But the UFO stays right by their side.
The UFO begins to close in.
It makes a sudden move closer to the helicopter.
Officer Kane quickly turns to the right, and this time the object pulls back to its original distance a few hundred feet away.
This is like a cat and mouse game.
And how can these pilots ever imagine that they might have an advantage over this UFO? Surprisingly, the UFO simply flies away, abandoning the hunt.
After the UFO's aggressive approach and retreat, it rises up to about 500 feet, changes course towards the southeast, and zips off towards Chevy Chase Canyon.
One minute it was right in front of them, and the next instant it was gone.
Because this incident involved police officers, MUFON heard about it pretty quickly, and we were able to check the nearby Hollywood-Burbank Airport to see if the object had been detected on their radar, but unfortunately nothing had been picked up.
It's another case, very similar to so many others that we have, that shows that for whatever reason, some UFOs are not shy about engaging with a target.
We have to keep in mind that this must be just the tip of the iceberg.
There are so many cases out there, and the question is what is going on, and why? Are these cases part of a more complex agenda? Are they connected to abductions? Or could it be something else entirely? It's perfectly conceivable that extraterrestrials represent a wide range of agendas.
These entities that are coming here may not all be benevolent scientists, for example.
They could be, you know, the Earth equivalent of a teenager out on an excursion playing with the neighborhood pets or something.
You know, this might not be a sanctioned activity, as opposed to the more benevolent experiences that people like me have witnessed.
Within MUFON's files are cases of harrowing UFO pursuits.
Are these encounters random or are some individuals actually selected? And is the purpose to cause physical harm? Perhaps even to target certain people for abductions? Or, like pranksters, are they simply playing games with us? Whatever the reason, hopefully you won't find yourself hunted by an UFO.
