Haunted Collector (2011) s02e04 Episode Script

Priest Gun - Haunted Asylum

- On this episode Of Haunted Collector I've seen a black figure of a man walking across my bedroom.
This is the gun used in a suicide.
All right, I'm definitely getting a reading.
We're heading to an old insane asylum.
The ax happens to appear throughout the building.
What the hell is that? I can't see, but I'm coming in anyway.
Dude, what is that? - Holy (Bleep).
- Look at that.
- Did you hear something? - No, I saw it.
There's a shadow right there? Yeah.
Oh.
My name is John Zaffis.
For over 40 years, I've been helping people with their paranormal problems.
I found that spirits can attach themselves to objects.
- Whoa! - Oh, there it goes! Oh, my God! And make life a living hell.
That's where my team comes in.
My son Chris.
My daughter Aimee.
Brian, my tech guy.
Jason, my researcher.
And Jesslyn, my investigator.
My job? - What is that? - Don't touch that thing.
Find the haunted item and remove it, because I am The Haunted Collector.
All right, guys, take a look at this submission that came in.
I'm a little concerned at this point for her.
Hi, John.
I'm Joanie in Sawyer, Michigan.
And we're having some pretty intense activity at my house.
A lot of times I get someone who's whispering to me in a very insistent, urgent kind of a whisper and there's nobody there.
We're seeing black shadows that walk through the house.
A friend of mine saw the shadow figure in my bedroom while I was asleep.
And it's terrifying.
And I really don't want to live in a house that makes me terrified.
Please come help us.
We're really struggling.
All right, guys, this sounds like a serious situation.
Why don't youse get the equipment packed up, and, uh, we'll all get together and head out there.
- All right let's go.
- Let's do it.
All right, guys, here we are in Sawyer, Michigan.
You know, we're only about a mile from the tip of Lake Michigan.
And a unique thing with Joanie is she does a lot of metal detecting along Lake Michigan there.
You know, she brings these items into the home.
And her fiance collects a lot of antiques.
So you have a lot of different items that have been brought into this home.
What's really got Joanie scared is that the activity is increasing.
And things are really getting to the point where she's afraid to live there.
We need to get in there and see if we can figure out what's going on.
So Joanie can live there in peace.
All right, guys Aimee and I are gonna go in and meet with Joanie.
And, uh, Jess, you talk to some of the witnesses.
Okay.
Hey, Joanie.
John.
Hey.
Oh, I'm so glad you're here.
- Come in in.
It's cold.
- Okay.
Why don't you show us around.
Well, this is our piano room.
Mm-hmm.
And in this room, I'll hear someone whispering Like they're trying to get my attention.
And it's always like "Hey.
Hey".
Like that.
And it sounds like a male voice.
- Mm-hum.
- But it's an intense whisper.
Okay.
Well, I definitely see you're quite the collector.
My fiance Chris sold antiques, and these are left over from when he retired.
Okay.
So, there's a lot of artifacts in here, antiques, a lot of unique items.
Can energy be attached to some of these things? I don't know.
We're gonna find that out in our investigation.
This is the living room.
John, right next to you, that's the hot spot of the room right there.
When I sit there, I've seen a black figure of a man walking across the side of my bedroom Just certain that it's Chris.
And yell out to him just casually like, "hey, honey?" No answer, so I get up and walk in there, and he's not there.
Nobody's there.
I have had a lifelong habit of beach combing.
Picking up everything I see that's just weird.
And this is a gold dental bridge That I found on the shoreline in Lake Michigan Beach.
And it actually has a tooth still encased in the gold dental bridge.
If you'd like to see that.
Makes me sad because there are so many shipwrecks.
And so many drownings on Lake Michigan.
Did the activity start after you found the bridge? I haven't thought about whether it ties in with that.
It's possible.
This is my room.
And I have a friend who also saw A black, semi-solid figure coming across the room.
She's the one talking to your investigator right now.
We were having a girls' night here, and I was just relaxing on the sofa.
And I was looking that direction.
I saw this figure move across her room.
From the right side to the left, crossing the The window doors there.
Do you think that the figure was inside the house or outside the house? Definitely inside of the house.
There was like shadows on the walls.
I do have another item in this room that could have some tangled history.
This is a fourty-four revolver That was purchased by my fiance and his father back in the late eighties.
What they were told is that this had been used in a suicide of a priest.
Well, if it's something that was used in a suicide.
You can just imagine the emotion and the energy that would be attached to that item.
Mmm.
Mm-hmm.
Welcome to our garage.
We have tons of antiques and collectables in here.
And in this area Other people in the household have heard voices that they hear right outside the windows.
And they went out to see who possibly it could be And no one's there.
We have a lot of mourning jewelry.
Mourning jewelry is actually made out of the deceased loved one's hair.
So it's human hair.
At the bottom here is the color black, and at the time, it was the only acceptable color for this type of jewelry.
Well, Joanie, what I'd like to do now is to get my team in to actually see what we could find out.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys can find.
In our baseline investigation, I'm gonna have Brian and Chris do a complete sweep within the house.
Jess and I are gonna head out to the back garage.
Let's see what we can come up with.
There's so many old things in this room.
Yeah, there's a ton in here.
Joanie's place is a smaller house, but it's packed with lots of items.
So we're gonna try and sweep for EMF fields on each one.
As well as some of the ones that John and Aimee pointed out.
Not much coming from any of the items in there.
How's everything in here? So far, pretty quiet.
This is a interesting coffee table.
Weird.
There's a dental bridge in here.
Are you getting anything? No, not at all.
All right, I'm definitely getting a reading.
A reading from what I'm not exactly sure.
I don't know.
You want to get in here and move this? - Yeah.
- Get to the We did get some abnormal readings off that coffee table.
Now there's lots of different items in there.
But one of note is a gold dental bridge.
You know, why don't you take out the bridge? See if we can't just separate it from all the other stuff in here.
Put it down over here.
Getting anything? Nothing now.
That's weird.
You think it could be that or something else in here? I mean, there's tons of items in here.
Oh, wait, hang on a second.
It's not a constant reading.
That's what's bugging me.
I thought I was getting some readings off of it.
The readings went away, and I can't really explain why that was happening.
So we'll have to pay special attention to this item in tomorrow's investigation.
That's weird.
It's funny.
I've got a perfectly steady reading.
Wow, these are old bullets, too.
Mm-hmm.
Huh.
A hunting knife of some sort? Still not much.
So this is the, uh - Jewelry you were talking about.
- Yeah, this is the mourning jewelry.
Right here.
It actually has human hair That's intertwined.
- It's not really moving at all.
- Getting nothing.
Hello.
This is the gun that may have been used in the suicide.
But I'm not getting any readings.
Zero.
All right, well, maybe we should do an EVP session here.
Okay.
I'm putting the Mel-meter right next to the gun just in case.
Should anything reach for the gun, maybe we'll get it.
It addition to measuring electromagnetic fields.
My Mel-meter is also outfitted with a feature that creates its own EM bubble.
If anything disturbs that bubble, an alarm will sound.
Okay.
First question, there's a gun on the bed.
Uh, was this your gun? Go ahead.
Is there anything in the house that belongs to you or was important to you? Is there something you're trying to tell us? Dude.
Wow.
Is there something you're trying to tell us? During the EVP session, the Mel-meter did go off.
Showing something was breaking that EM field.
Is there anything in the house that belongs to you or was important to you? .
Is there something you're trying to tell us? .
I hear something.
The first one is definitely like "help".
The second one, I can't make it out.
Last night during the baseline sweep.
Brian and Chris got some strange EVPs in the master bedroom.
And that's where the gun that was allegedly used by a priest to kill himself is.
We found an article of a priest that did commit suicide.
It took place in 1979.
So Jason and I are going to go see what we can find about the gun.
And see if we can validate the story about it being used in a suicide.
We have a few questions about a gun, and um, hopefully, you can help us out.
Sure, let me see what you got.
Brought some photographs.
Okay It's a Smith & Wesson It's a fourty-four magnum.
Are you able to tell us when the gun was manufactured? Don't know.
Let me grab my book here.
Well, this is a 629 right here.
Uh, this gun Was built in 1985, 1986 time frame.
- All right.
- Okay.
This gun was manufactured between '85 and '86.
Which is interesting because Aimee and I found out that this suicide actually happened in '79.
So there's no possible way that this gun was used in that suicide.
We're getting some left curves thrown in here.
So, I need to get some kind of grip on what is happening.
So let's see what we can prove and disprove tonight.
Jess and Jason will check out the garage.
And since a shadow figure has been seen around the house.
Chris, Brian, and I will start out at the monitors to keep a close eye out for anything unusual.
Hey, Johnny, check this out.
Got nine cameras set up, and we are recording.
And from this point on.
Everything that happens in or outside the house, we're gonna get.
Okay.
There is stuff everywhere in here.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, this is a collection of Antique jewelry, but these three are mourning jewelry.
I'll set up the REM Pod.
If there's anybody here with us right now, there's a field right here.
So if you break this field, we'll know that you're here.
Just like this.
We captured a voice last night saying "help".
Was that you? Is there something important about this jewelry? Did you come here with any of these items? I can't hear anything.
Nothing.
If you get really close to this long metal pole - Did you hear something? - No, I saw it.
What did you see? There's a shadow right there? Yeah.
Whoa! Did you just pass in back of Jason? There's a light source there.
Are you sure someone didn't pass from outside? I don't know.
I'm gonna go look out that window really fast to make sure Make sure no one's walking around outside.
Nope, nothing.
Just before the REM Pod went off.
I definitely saw something in the corner of the garage.
And, to be honest, it scared The crap out of me.
Does that mean I'm on the right track? Is he going in the wrong direction? I don't see anything back here.
- All right, I'm gonna call John.
- Yeah.
Hey, John, you copy? Yeah, I'm here, buddy.
If you can come down here, we've got some thing's that we'd like to share with you.
What do you got? I saw a shadow figure, and then the REM Pod started going crazy.
Did you ask it any questions? We did.
Are you here with an item? What's going on? Seems to be gone now.
It kinda looks like it's raining outside.
Mmm.
Yeah, looks like it's beginning to come down a little bit.
Lot of dust in that room.
What was that? Hang on a second.
I saw something that crossed this section of the room.
All right, play it back.
- See what I saw? - Yeah.
What the hell is that? - Did you just see what I saw? - Yeah.
All right, play it back.
- Whoa! - What the hell is that? Let's check outside.
See if anyone's outside right now.
All right, uh, pulling up.
Uh, we got a light source from back here, but I'm not seeing anybody on the deck.
It definitely came from over here, so if anything blocked this light.
We should be able to see it.
That's not making any sense.
All right, you know what? Check this time code, go into that camera, rewind it.
I'm gonna call your Dad.
Hey, John, are you there? Hey, what's up? Can you come to command central? We got to show you something.
On our way.
We saw something move in one of the lower cameras.
Uh, it seemed like a black form.
I wasn't sure if it was somebody moving around outside.
But none of the other cameras could find anyone out there.
All right, guys, I'll let you uh, see for yourselves.
- What? - Whoa! Holy crap! Play that back again.
- That's - Holy (Bleep).
Look at that! All right.
Well, to me, that's pretty wild, especially in that room.
There's a lot going on in the living room.
Joanie herself said That this area is a focal point of activity.
That's the hot spot of the room right there.
Plus, during the baseline sweep Brian got readings on this dental bridge.
All right, I'm definitely getting a reading.
And now we've seen a shadow cross right over the coffee table.
Where the dental bridge is.
I want to take a closer look at that bridge.
I got a little idea here.
I need to get this to an expert tomorrow to see what I can find out.
Let's get the guys.
Let's get packed up and let's get out of here tonight.
I need to find out as much information as I possibly can on this bridge.
I found an expert that still works with gold in the dental field.
So I'm hoping he's gonna be able to share some information with me.
Well, Jay, I'm kind of hoping you can give me some information on this.
Yeah, I'd be glad to help.
It's a cast gold inlay-retained bridge.
I would date this bridge in the fifties or sixties.
- Fifties or sixties.
- When they were fabricated.
And this is probably from the lower right side of the mouth.
So is that a real tooth that's in there? - No, no.
This is uh - Oh, okay.
- A cosmetic facing.
- Okay.
Is that something that would have been, you know, a permanent fixture.
Or would it have been something removable? It's a fixed bridge.
It's a fixed bridge.
It's cemented into the mouth.
That would take a lot of force to actually get that out? Yes, yeah, these just don't fall out easily.
Oh.
Well, Jay, this was actually found on the beach.
Along the lake where we know there's You know, a lot of deaths associated with the lake.
And, you know, there's bodies that wash up, there's bodies that never have.
Could that have possibly have gotten loosened in the mouth of a person decomposing? Sure, it could have, or, in fact, just the constant movement of water past this bridge could cause the cement to dissolve.
The body might have been underwater for any number of years and very easily that could happen.
Okay.
Where did this bridge come from? Did it come from someone that drowned in the lake? Anything is possible.
After finding out some of this information, I definitely have a few recommendations for Joanie.
Well, Joanie, we came in and we did our baseline sweep, and we got an interesting EVP in the bedroom.
And I'm gonna play that for you.
Okay.
Thank you.
We put it on the computer and actually cleaned it up.
Is there anything in the house that belongs to you or was important to you? .
Is there something you're trying to tell us? .
It sounded like "help" and "cold".
And this was taken right in the area where the gun is.
Oh, wow.
What we learned was that gun was manufactured some time after 1985.
You told us the gun could have been used in a suicide, and we found an article similar, but that suicide took place in 1979.
So the gun can't be connected.
Oh, okay.
So when we came back in to do our overnight investigation, there was a lot of activity that was happening out in that big garage, but that may not be related.
- We don't know.
- Okay.
And then I ended up hearing from Brian And I was quite amazed at what they caught.
And I'd like to show that to you at this point in time.
Yeah.
Yep, that's exactly the form, the head and shoulders, everything.
You're telling me about the creepy area right over here, - Right.
- The black shadow forms coming through here.
Well, I did come up with an item that I feel was causing an issue.
Especially here in this room.
Oh my goodness.
And we have mysterious circumstances surrounding this bridge.
Oh, the bridge.
Now, we know that there's a lot of people that drown in the lake.
Who knows? Maybe it is a missing person.
Maybe somebody that fell off one of the ships.
- Right.
- But The energy that's attached to that It's reaching out to you.
- Mm.
- And it's trying to get closure.
So I need to ask you, what would you like to do with this item? Oh.
I like finding answers.
And I really want that spirit to be able to be at peace and at rest.
- Mm-hum.
- So, I'll commit myself to trying to find whoever the dental bridge belonged to.
So just think, you might be the driving force in bringing closure to this particular spirit.
I'd be honored to do that.
I hoping that, if I can find closure with the dental bridge.
Then at that point, the spirit can cross over and things will stop.
Joanie may never find the answer to whom the dental bridge belonged to.
But in trying to solve this mystery, she may be able to bring some peace to this troubled spirit.
And, in doing so, peace to herself and her family.
Hello, John.
My name is Don.
I'm the Director Of Operations for the St.
Alban's Sanatorium in Radford, Virginia.
A very historical building built in 1892.
And I've been tasked for a renovation project.
We've encountered many things, objects that just seem to move through the building.
People being physically assaulted.
Uh, things being thrown at them.
It's going to actually stop our project.
I really need you and your team to come here and help me find out what's actually happening in this building.
I just want this cleared up once and for all.
Okay, guys, here we are in Radford, Virginia.
And we're heading to an old insane asylum.
The current building is actually 120 years old.
Don is interested in restoring this old building.
He wants to turn it into a museum, and they can't do that because their activity has escalated out of control.
That's scary.
All right, guys.
Aimee and I are gonna go on and meet with Don.
You guys get the equipment ready.
- Hey, Don.
- Hey, hello.
Come on in out of the rain.
Tell us exactly what's happening.
This building has quite an extensive history.
The Doctor that bought this building in 1915 had a vision.
It was one of the first facilities in the country to actually treat mental health humanely.
Our intent is to restore it as a museum.
Since we've got involved restoring the building.
We've encountered many odd things.
We've had people working in the building be physically accosted by something they can't see.
I've had photographers come in to take pictures of the building And leave crying And swear never to enter the building again.
My Safety and Security Coordinator was physically thrown from the stairwell.
Standing at the bottom of the grand staircase, there was about eight or ten witnesses.
Uh, they saw me actually levitate about six to eight inches off the ground.
I was thrown about eight feet.
Whatever had a hold of me wouldn't let me go.
These are somewhat frightening uh Situations we've had to deal with.
There's something evil in the building.
And we just don't feel it's very safe.
Many women have come in here and been physically accosted.
.
Dude, what is that? The memories.
What the hell was that? I can't see, but I'm coming in anyway.
These are somewhat frightening uh, situations we've had to deal with.
And we just don't feel it's very safe.
St.
Alban's is a former mental asylum.
That hopes to reopen as a psychiatric museum.
But it's plagued by reported paranormal activity.
This is the third floor we're on now.
This was where the women area was.
Many people have very unusual experiences here.
And back in September We were doing cleanup work, and an ax was discovered.
And the ax happens to appear throughout the building.
It was in the basement.
It was found on the second floor above the stairwell.
It's been found on this floor.
Wow.
So it just keeps showing up all over the place, huh? It shows in different places for no reason.
This place is being restored.
So it's possible that some of the workers just merely moved the ax without Don knowing about it.
This area here is one of the levels of the basement.
The area we're in right now, it's claim to fame is this safe right here.
When they brought patients down for electroshock therapy They locked their belongings up in the safe.
We had a group in here, and this safe at that time was on its wheels.
They heard a loud thump.
And they came back, and they found it upside down.
It's a hell of a lot of weight.
I've never really known spirits to be able to do something to that magnitude.
But, we'll definitely check it out for you, Don.
Another basement.
This place is like a maze, huh? Now, John, this area was used for some form of medical procedures.
One of those procedures they suspect was performed in here is a lobotomy.
Here again too, Don, trial and error is the way things advance in the medical field.
But uh, it's pretty gruesome.
Well, the experiences people had in this room is Is strange voices, a feeling of heaviness.
This is an autoclave to sterilize medical equipment.
It sometimes will open on its own even after it's been securely bolted.
.
It's pitch dark, there's no light in there.
There's no electricity, it's very cold.
I felt nervous in there, I felt uncomfortable.
Aimee and John, we're now in the belly of the beast.
This is the boiler room.
The boiler room has quite a history of a phenomenon that has happened to particularly women.
Many women have come in here and have actually passed out or fainted in this room.
Along with other physical contact Punching, pulling their hair.
Because of that, we don't let females come in this room unless they're accompanied by a couple of men.
The building is one of the very few places of this type in the country.
Uh, with the history it has and the architecture.
And unless we can make sure that people come in here and feel safe.
We'll have to give up the project.
All right, Don, well, we're gonna get in here with the team.
And hopefully at the end of our investigation, we'll have some answers for you.
- Okay.
You got it, buddy.
- I'll appreciate that.
With a place this big and this old We're going to need a lot of research.
So in our baseline, I'm actually bringing Jason in.
I need an extra pair of hands.
Bringing him in, I think, is gonna be a big asset to us being able to find a few things out in here.
This place is really creepy.
All right, spread out, guys.
Just watch your step.
One advantage we have is there's no electricity running through the entire place.
If we're getting EM signatures It's not gonna be from electricity or any other normal methods.
Kind of makes our job a lot easier.
Is this the old safe? Guys, run your meters over it.
I want to see uh, if you're getting any readings, because I'm not getting anything.
Getting pretty much zero just about everywhere.
Try moving it.
Come on, man, I saw you doing pull-ups this morning.
Chris? - Yeah.
- Yeah.
Toppling the safe isn't easy with three people.
If you had a bigger group, you could probably push it over.
I think what happened is some vandals probably came in here and pushed it over as a prank.
To me, that's the most logical conclusion I can come to.
He was telling us that they keep finding this ax all over the place, Jess.
Let's try a few EVPs in here.
Are you the one that keeps moving this ax around? Are you angry because they took it away from you? Did you live here at the hospital? All right, guys, let's get our masks on down here.
Better safe than sorry.
My Dad and sister told me about the dust and mold down here.
During our baseline sweep, we're literally gonna be digging for clues.
So to be safe, we're gonna wear these protective masks.
Oh, check this out, dude.
So this is to sterilize instruments and whatnot, right? .
Anything? I'm at a zero.
Did you live here at the hospital? Did you try to use the ax to hurt yourself? - The boys are in the basement, right? - Yeah, I heard it, too.
Something is tapping, rattling.
Yeah, I know it.
During our EVP session We're hearing some very odd noises that seem to be coming through the walls.
What do you know about the ax? There it goes again.
Let's check around in the walls for mice or something.
Nothing.
This is the room where a lot of the women would come if they were having nervous breakdowns Or they couldn't handle things.
What the hell was that? Don't know.
Not really What the hell was that? Jess and I are doing recordings up on the third floor.
And all of a sudden, we were interrupted by something crashing between the walls.
- You hear it again? - Mm-hmm.
Let's move in this room.
I feel like I'm being toyed with.
Hm-hm.
We're running back and forth, back and forth.
Nothing.
Weird.
Our baseline sweep has been inconclusive so far.
But, hopefully, we'll get more answers in our nighttime investigation.
Jason and I will check out the women's ward on the third floor.
Aimee and Chris, you'll be at the monitors in the command center.
Jess and Brian will take the basement.
Let's go for it.
This is the room? This is the boiler room? All right, I'm putting the baby monitor down.
Let's test it.
As usual, we'll have the surveillance system set up.
But in addition to that, I'm also gonna give Chris a baby monitor.
All right, if you're hearing us, let us know.
Yeah, we can hear you.
It's a little unusual, but a baby monitor can be a valuable tool To give us not only eyes, but also ears on possible hot spots.
- Let us know if anything happens in here.
- Copy.
All right, Jason, we're up here on the third floor.
This is the ax right here, Jay.
Let's see, anything get moved? Nope.
- I'll just do a quick scan here.
- Yeah.
- See if I can pick anything up.
- Curious if it - Nothing.
- There's nothing there.
Flat.
All right, just to see.
It took takes five turns from where it was to get it open.
Still getting nothing.
All right, if they call us and say that this opened I'll be impressed.
Don had reported that the autoclave door opens and closes on its own.
So Brian and I are doing a little experiment by re-closing the autoclave door, and if anything happens, the camera should hopefully catch it.
Glad we have a camera on it.
Why don't you try an EVP session here right in this bathroom? Okay.
Can you tell us your name? Are you scaring the women? Were you mistreated by the nurses here? We're only a few questions in, and suddenly I get a cold shiver that goes straight through me.
I've been doing this long enough to know that that means something.
Let's check that and put the meter back on again.
- Okay.
- Let's try it.
Are you scaring the women? Were you mistreated by the nurses here? Here, John, listen to this really quick.
Were you mistreated by the nurses here? "Memory".
"Memory"? That's what you got? Play it back.
Were you mistreated by the nurses here? .
"The memories".
Dude, that's as clear as can be.
On the EVP, we heard the voice say "Memories".
But memories of what? We know that some of the therapies might have actually harmed patients here.
Could this be the voice of an abused patient? "The memories.
" I'll never forget that.
Here we go.
Let's start some EVPs.
Is there someone here trying to make contact with us? Did you do things to women down here? Were you a patient here? Let's see if we've got anything.
Can you tell me your name? I'd like to help you if I can.
Oh, my God, Bri.
What the hell was that? What have we got? What have we got? I can't see, but I'm coming in anyway.
Could that have been something falling from here? - Um, Brian? - Yeah.
There's a whole chunk of ceiling.
Is that it? Looks like the plaster just fatigued and fell down here, Jess.
I was a little nervous because I know that there have been a lot of reports of women being touched Being scratched down here.
But this building is over 100 years old.
So I think that explains what happened here.
Like, oh my God, that was loud.
You hear that? There it goes again.
That's creepy.
About the third or fourth time I heard the noise over the baby monitor.
I started to realize this wasn't natural.
Hey, Bri, you copy? Yeah, I copy.
I'm getting weird noise on the baby monitor.
But I can't really tell what it is.
It sounds like a wave-form, weird radio sound.
Will you and Jess meet me in the boiler room to check it out? Okay.
- There it is again.
- Yeah, this thing is going off.
It wasn't feedback, it wasn't static? No.
Did it sound anything like this? No.
All right, you check this side of the room back here and behind Jess.
I'm gonna check this side of the room.
Getting anything over there, Chris? No, nothing over here.
All these wires are dead.
There's nothing connected, just like last night.
Whoa! Might have got something in this area.
Whoa! Dude, what is that? Is that supposed to be in there? What is it? Will you hold that? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- Wow.
- What the hell's that? Bri, is that supposed to be in there? What is it? - Wow.
- What the hell's that? After hearing the baby monitor blasting these weird noises.
We found this strange device.
I got to tell you, there's definitely some weird energy happening in this boiler room.
This thing is heavy as hell.
Come on, bring it out, bring it out.
I don't know what this is.
What the? Is this an old battery? How odd.
Let's check around the room again.
I'm not getting any readings.
How about you? None at all.
Hey, Johnny, pick up.
Hey, buddy, what's up? Uh, you're definitely gonna want to get down here.
Uh, Chris started hearing things on the baby monitor, and, uh This is what we found.
Oh, man.
I have a good idea what this is just by looking at it.
This looks like a medical device to me.
But it's not plugged in, so it shouldn't be giving off EMF.
I need to find out more about it.
I'm on my way over to go meet with Dr.
Robert Dean.
He's been in the field for well over 20 years dealing with psychiatry.
I'm hoping he's gonna be able to share some information with me on what this item actually is.
Dr.
Dean, we're working on St.
Alban's here, the old hospital.
Of course.
And, uh, we had found an item.
Well, it's a medical apparatus.
These were very popular in the 19th century.
They used low amounts of electricity.
And it was probably intended to bring about The relief of very distressed depressive and manic states.
This is the battery.
Okay.
And we have two what would look to me to be some kind of electrode.
Electrodes would be applied to the scalp.
On the frontal lobes here or over on the side here.
A current would be passed between them.
So there really isn't a method to control the current or electricity - No.
- That was going to an individual? No.
One of the challenges in the early years of psychiatry.
Was dealing with states for which we really had no Appropriate treatment.
These people were groping in the dark.
Right.
In our research, we found that asylums Such as St.
Alban's could have shocked patients against their will.
This device could have been a painful reminder of that treatment.
Well, Don, this place is very interesting.
The first night I was up here with Jesslyn, we were trying to, you know, do some EVPs and different things.
We would get bangs, we would get raps.
I still can't quite understand what was trying to make that connection.
But that's just the beginning of it.
As we were going through the evening, Jason and I were up here.
We were trying an EVP session.
Quite amazed at what we got.
Sent the chills right up my spine.
Were you mistreated by the nurses here? .
Memories.
- Saying "memories".
- Yeah.
What bothered me even more is my son Chris was sitting at the monitor system, and he, saw that there was something crazy going on in the boiler room.
And they were able to actually find an item down there.
What this is, it's actually a device that's used To actually shock people.
- And - Oh, my God.
It would send the sensation through the body.
And what they were trying to do is calm the people.
Unfortunately, one thing about this item is you couldn't control the amount of electricity that went back and forth.
So did the asylum nurses inadvertently mistreat a patient with this? We can't rule that out.
Sometimes you just don't know.
Well, what you're telling me is Blows me away, to be honest with you.
I just was baffled.
I never dreamed you'd find that kind of an item.
Don, I'd like to ask you, what would you like to do? I don't want that thing around here.
Just get it the hell out of here, all I can tell you.
- All right.
- Thank you.
The electroshock device is a reminder of psychiatry's dark ages.
By taking it away from St.
Alban's I hope to finally power off the negative energy afflicting the asylum.
