Haunted Collector (2011) s02e09 Episode Script

Ghost Tavern - Terror House

- On this episode of Haunted Collector At the King's Tavern, we've had a lot of paranormal activity.
Customers are just terrified.
There could very well be bones under the floor.
.
3? What the hell? Here we are in Schuyler Lake, New York.
I am at my wit's ends about this house.
I don't know what to do.
I found this carving knife down in the basement.
There were two glowing eyes.
There's something over here.
Are you seeing this? Pull the brick up.
What do you got? Did you (Bleep) Hear that, dude? Was that a baby? Oh, my God! My name is John Zaffis.
For over 40 years, I've been helping people with their paranormal problems.
I found that spirits can attach themselves to objects.
- Whoa! - Oh, there it goes! Oh, my God! And make life a living hell.
That's where my team comes in.
My son Chris My daughter Aimee Brian, my tech guy Jason, my researcher And Jesslyn, my investigator.
My job? - What is that? - Don't touch that thing.
Find the haunted item and remove it because I am The Haunted Collector.
Okay, guys, this submission came in.
I want you to watch this and see what's going on.
Hi, I'm Thom Drinkwater.
I'm the tavern keeper here at the King's Tavern in Natchez, Mississippi.
We've had many, many reports, even I've heard it myself Of a baby crying here in the tavern.
Not a live baby, but a kind of a ghostly baby's light whimper.
We have customers that are scared.
The women get their hair pulled.
It seems things are escalating.
The waitresses are quitting because they're just terrified.
That sounds pretty serious to me.
Brian, get a hold of the rest of the team.
Let's head down there as soon as we possibly can.
- All right.
- Cool.
All right, guys.
We're down here in Mississippi, and we'll be going to King's Tavern.
You know, that's one of the oldest buildings, and it's right at the end of the Natchez Trace.
And, man, does this place have a history to it.
The Natchez Trace was a rugged trail that ran between Natchez, Mississippi, and Nashville.
It attracted the most notorious and ruthless bandits in the old South.
There were some really wild things that went on on this trail.
People were killed, murdered, stabbed, beheaded, and King's Tavern was right in the thick of it.
Aimee and I are gonna head in.
Chris, Brian, get the equipment ready.
Jess, see what you can actually dig up on the property.
- Hey, Thom.
- Hi, John.
Hi, Aimee.
- How you doing? - Welcome to the tavern.
Y'all come on in.
All right.
I'm glad you're here.
We had a lot of paranormal through the years, but we've really had some incredible things happening lately that I'd like to show you.
Okay.
One of the most well-known legends here at the King's Tavern is the legend of Madeline.
And this is her portrait up on top of the fireplace.
Basically, back in the late 1700s, Madeline was having an affair with Mr.
King, and she was done in by Mrs.
King.
In the 1930s, they brought in brick masons to do repair work on this side of the fireplace.
That's when they discovered the body of the young girl with a dagger in her chest.
We feel that that's probably Madeline.
Portraits can hold on to energy.
Can Madeline be trying to get a message across to us? And this is the tack room.
Our guests who have come here, they hear a baby crying Right here next to the wall.
This is where a baby was killed.
There were two murderous Highwaymen that were brothers Big Harpe and Little Harpe.
A woman came in and she had a small baby, and the baby was crying.
Big Harpe acted like he was gonna console the baby.
Instead, he took it by its legs, and he whacked its head on the brick wall here.
Could the energy from that child, if this story is true, actually be contained within that wall? That's one of the things that we're gonna investigate.
As you look around the room, you can see we've got a lot of Uh, interesting things in the decor.
This larger saw right here, it swings from time to time.
You gotta remember, it was two guys that would actually use that, and a lot of tragedies happened around these types of saws.
Here on the staircase is where many of our waitresses report paranormal activity.
One time I was actually serving some people up here.
On my way up the stairs It felt like somebody pushed me.
I didn't fall all the way down.
But I had a bruise on my elbow and on the back of my shoulder.
I really have no explanation for it.
This is another area where we've had a lot of activity.
Ladies have been getting locked in the bathroom here for years.
You can see where the wood's busted here.
- Mm-hmm.
- They kicked the door open.
Swearing that somebody was holding it.
Thom, what can you tell me about this? Well, it's a sarcophagus.
It was given to one of the previous owners by her brother.
Years ago, what they would do when anybody had diseases or anything, they'd put them in the caskets, and they would have What they would call a viewing window in there.
Because they were afraid that other people would be contaminated.
To be honest with you, the size of that was probably from a child.
Well, you gave us quite a bit.
What I'd like to do is get some of the team members in and see if we can't get some information for you.
All right, great.
Here in King's Tavern, we have several objects.
We have a painting of Madeline.
We have an old saw.
We have a top of a casket.
So I'm very psyched about getting in, setting up, and doing our investigation.
You start over there and get some readings.
- I'll check over here.
- Okay.
Anything? What are you readings in there, dude? - Zero.
- I'm getting a zero.
Now we're searching for EMF, which is electromagnetic fields.
An average reading for a non-haunted location may be a one, a two.
Five if it's something that's coming off of something man made.
I'm getting like a one.
All right, I'm gonna go check out what's in here.
So this was Madeline, the owner's mistress? It's a picture supposedly of what she looked like.
Ooh, two.
- Really? - Getting a two? There's a little bubble of something.
- But where is it? - 6 10 14 18 - Is it this chair? - 20.
21 23 What the hell? We're getting such a high reading off this brick, it's definitely something to take notice of.
All right, it's definitely something about this brick.
And there's no flooring - There's no basement under here, right? - No.
Think it's time to call your Dad down here.
What do you got going on? We're just doing our scans.
We come over to this brick and it jumps.
24? Is it loose? No, it doesn't look like it, but where is it coming from? Is it something underneath the brick? So it's something hidden under here? All right, you know what? Let's stop the sweep and let's get all the equipment out.
Let's get the guys all in here.
Let's go into our full investigation.
Normally we'll sweep the entire building.
But at this point, I think it's important to kick in, get all our gear set up.
We must have something going on here.
These are just ordinary bricks.
I want to find out what the heck is going on in front of this fireplace.
From what Thom was telling us In the '30s, they actually were repairing this old fireplace.
And when they opened it up, they actually found a skeleton.
Do you want to do an EVP session? Absolutely, yeah.
Go right ahead, Jess.
How can we help you? Madeline, are you here with us right now? Could you please tell me how many are here with us? EVP session.
Chris and Brian are in the bathroom On the second floor of King's Tavern.
You can start off by telling us your name.
Hi, my name is Brian.
My name's Chris.
Hi.
Did you just make that light up? All right, we're hearing things in the ceiling.
Is that you? Was that a baby? Alright.
Yeah, I think we'll find out.
All right, we're hearing things in the ceiling.
Is that you? Was that a baby? We'll find out.
All right, we're hearing things in the ceiling.
Is that you? - That sounded very clear.
- That is unbelievable.
Chris and I set up to do an EVP session in the bathroom When we heard what sounded like a baby.
Do me a favor, rummage around in there, see if there's some kind of, like Recorder or a baby toy.
Maybe it's settling, it's making baby noises.
But I looked at Chris and I said "Open up the closet".
"See if there's something in there".
Nothing in there.
Let's go down, show your Father.
That was just, like, scary.
We just heard baby noises, like, literally a baby crying.
- Did you really? - I got to rewind it a little bit.
Okay.
- That's a baby.
That's a baby! - That's very clear.
- That's a baby! - Are you kidding me? That's clear as heck.
And that That was, like, that came from, like, in the room with us.
Like, it was that clear.
That baby crying, it was clear cut.
They didn't have to clean it up.
I am very overwhelmed by it.
I think right now what's gonna be super important is that tomorrow during the day, we really need to do a lot of research.
And I want to do a second investigation in here tomorrow night.
Absolutely.
Some say the haunting at King's Tavern is caused by Richard King's mistress, Madeline.
So I'm gonna go meet with a local deputy.
He's looked into the claims of bones being found at the tavern.
In all the research I've done personally, I've never discovered any actual Account of an actual Madeline existing.
But I brought an expert in that does polarity dousing with metal rods - Hmm.
- And he got a hit.
Meaning there could very well be bones under the floor right there to the right of the fireplace.
Yesterday, in our investigation we were doing an EMF sweep, and we came across a really high spike right in front of the fireplace.
Right, and that's really interesting.
And you think that there could be body there? Could be, absolutely.
I'm doing some research on the King's Tavern here, and there's some legend about the Harpe brothers.
They were awful.
They uh, not only robbed for money But the Harpes also loved and enjoyed killing.
Uh, they tortured their victims, and they were the first serial killers recorded in The United States.
There's a story about Big Harpe was here at the tavern, and that he's connected with the death of an infant.
It would not have been Big Harpe.
Uh, Big Harpe never made it this far down the Natchez Trace.
Little Harpe, however, frequented the King's Tavern.
All right, guys.
I want to break up into three teams tonight.
Jason, Aimee, I want you guys on the first floor.
Brian and Chris, you're on the second floor.
Jess and I will be up on the third floor.
Let's break up into the teams and let's rock and roll.
Let's get those cameras set up.
All right, this is Jason and Aimee by the fireplace.
If there's anybody here with us right now, are you buried beneath the floor? Does the name Little Harpe mean anything to you? - Did you hear that? - Yeah.
Someone just pulled my hair.
- Are you serious? - Yeah.
I kind of heard something and felt something at the same time.
Are you okay? First of all Yeah, I'm just really scared.
All of a sudden I realized that something just hit me and kind of like pulled my hair.
Hold on, we got something on the floor.
- What is it? - A dirty bottle cap.
No idea where it came from.
John, are you there? Yeah, buddy, what's up? Um, could you come down? We've had something happen.
Okay, on our way.
What's up, guys? It felt like my hair got pulled and I got hit with the bottle cap and that was it.
Really? I don't know what it is with this fireplace.
Things just seem to happen here, so How the Mel meter been? Mel meter's been normal.
- We didn't get a reading.
- Try it down on the brick.
I'm just curious.
So far, nothing.
Did you actually try to pull that brick up? I haven't yet actually.
- You know what? - Do you want to do that right now? Pull the brick up.
Let's see if I can get this sucker.
Do you see anything, John? Actually, that cement doesn't look all that old, guys.
No.
You know what would be interesting is to get a reading off just the brick.
So we have pulled the brick up.
Then we tested the brick again, and there was no EMF reading whatsoever.
So we basically hit a dead end.
- Do you hear that? - What was that? - It's coming from upstairs.
- I'm going up there.
I'm gonna bring a thermal and you're gonna monitor on the display.
All right.
A thermal camera is a great tool to have, because in dark spaces, you'll be able to see hot spots, and cold spots on the screen.
It's cold up here.
Yeah.
Okay, this is very warm over here.
What is this? That's our reflections on the foil.
Wow, that's amazing how this thing picks up heat reflections on reflective surfaces.
It's hard to see what's up here.
Hang on a second, I'm getting a heat signature.
All right, move over a second.
What the hell is that? Straight.
Straight ahead.
Oh, wait.
- You seeing this? - That looks as hot as us.
Yeah there's something over here.
What the hell? What the hell is that? - You seeing this? - That looks as hot as us.
- There's something over here.
- And it's freezing up here.
- How is anything up here hot? - Hang on a second.
There's something in this box.
- Dude, be careful.
- This is warm.
The thermal camera was saying it was hot, so I was a little reluctant to touch it.
- Oh.
- What is that? - Is it hot? - It's cold.
When I pulled the object out of the box, it was cool to the touch.
It's giving off that much heat? That's scary, dude.
I really wasn't sure what I was looking at.
I fished this out of the box.
It was giving off the same temperature as my hand, so I figured 96 degrees.
But you were getting that high of readings off of it, huh? And, actually, this was found directly over where we heard the baby crying.
I'm not quite sure what it is But I think we're getting closer to an answer.
It's not often that I find an item that I don't know what it is.
I don't know if this is a decoration or what.
But I'm taking it to a local antiques expert to see if we can find out exactly what it is.
Oh, how unusual.
I'm been doing this for a long time, and I've never had anyone bring one in to me.
Actually, this is the clue to what it is.
Um, this is a teething ring.
And the rest of it is a baby's rattle.
These things were broken, damaged, and you just don't see old ones surviving very long.
You can basically date that around what? Stylistically, the date is late 1700s.
Lot of superstition, lot of history here.
I mean, they've been used since prehistoric times to ward off evil spirits, keep them a little quiet.
You know, the same reason you use a pacifier now.
Well, Richard, that was a big help to me.
- Okay, good.
- Okay, I thank you so much.
Great, thanks a lot.
After finding out how old this rattle was and then hearing about the baby allegedly being killed, a lot of these dots are starting to connect.
The fireplace is a very interesting place.
Unfortunately, we weren't able to actually find any information about the bones being sealed up here in the fireplace.
But during our investigation in this area here, we were getting high EMF readings, and we were getting it over one brick.
We did pull it up and, unfortunately, we weren't able to substantiate anything whatsoever.
- Yeah.
- But um Brian and Chris were up on the second level, and they were hearing something.
I'd like to play that for you now.
- I've heard that.
I've heard that before.
- What are you actually hearing? - That's the baby.
- Yeah.
So the following day, they actually had heard a couple of different noises above up in the attic, and they picked up on one item in that area.
- I would like to show you that item.
- Great.
I had taken it to an antiques expert And what he had told me is that it was a baby rattle.
From the late 18th century, and that made me start connecting the dots.
We heard a baby crying, and it also is an association to me with Little Harpe.
Big Harpe never actually came here.
But Little Harpe stayed at King's Tavern.
And it is possible that he killed the baby.
Did this particular item possibly belong to the child that was killed in here? Is this why we're hearing the baby crying and other people are experiencing it? Good possibility.
What would you like to do with this item? Well, I'm really torn at what to do with it.
I fully believe spirits need to move on - Mm-hum.
- When it's their time.
And this really could be the baby needs to move on.
Mm-hum, let's try removing it for 30 days.
Let's see if some of the activity calms down in here.
Let's see what happens.
If you want the item back in here By all means, Sir, that is your item.
And it will definitely be returned to you.
- All right, that sounds good to me.
- All right, Sir, okay.
- I really appreciate your help.
- All right, buddy.
Okay, you got it.
You got it.
For centuries, rattles have calmed crying babies.
Now by taking this rattle away from the site of an infant's grizzly murder.
I hope to pacify the baby's restless spirit once and for all.
Hi, John.
This is Marilyn Senko, and I'm from Schuyler Lake, New York.
I live in a house that was built in 1898.
There's been some weird things happening.
I myself have heard footsteps up above and the door slam.
My son saw these glowing eyes looking at him.
It took me about a week to actually have him step foot back into this house.
So, John, I really need your help.
I need answers.
I'm really afraid for my kids.
Okay, guys, here we are in Schuyler Lake, New York.
Got a case that came in.
Marilyn Senko.
Now, she lives in this house with her two kids, her son and daughter.
They were seeing shadow forms.
They're hearing banging's.
They're even afraid to stay in the rooms, especially the son.
That tells you they're terrified of something.
That's really upsetting.
Aimee and I are gonna head in to meet with Marilyn.
Chris, Brian, why don't you get the gear ready? Jess, you talk to some witnesses, okay? Hi, Marilyn.
John Zaffis.
- Hi.
- My daughter, Aimee Zaffis.
- Hi.
- Hi, Aimee.
I'm so glad you guys are here.
I am so glad.
Come on in.
Marilyn, what's actually happening here? I bought the house 13 years ago, and it seems like lately things started happening.
Whispers through the house.
Doorknobs moving.
Doors slamming.
Right now, the kids are so uncomfortable going upstairs, they end up sleeping on the couches down here.
I am at my wit's ends about this house.
I don't know what to do.
How long has it been since you've slept up here? Five months.
Oh, wow, that looks like blood.
They found a news article.
The headline is, "man stabbed in front of house".
What the Did you (Bleep) Hear that, dude? Oh, my gosh! I am at my wit's ends about this house.
I don't know what to do.
We're here at the home of Marilyn Senko, a working Mom who's terrified by stuff she can't explain.
There is one thing I'd like to show you.
Mm-hmm.
This carving knife, which I found down in the basement about a year ago.
Oh, okay.
You can have a combination of a lot of energy with these types of items.
Just because this is a knife It doesn't mean it has a violent past.
But, generally speaking, it's always good to take a closer look at items with unknown origins.
Another thing I'd like to show you is the kitchen.
One of the things that's happened in the kitchen is the kitchen door.
I heard a knocking and looked out the window and no one was there.
And that actually was happening quite frequently.
There's an old myth that when anybody knocks on a door and you open it up, you grant permission for the spirit to actually enter.
I have some other items that I have actually found in the walls, some booklets, actually some boxes of pills.
There's a name on that paper, "R.
Jones".
That might be something interesting for you to research, Aimee.
This is the basement.
There's been a lot of renovation, and we were doing some digging at one point in time, and I just wanted to show you some items that we found.
- Okay.
- They were underneath the dirt.
This is a commemorative spoon.
If you look here, it says, "150 years, American independence".
It's from 1926.
With homes this old, it's common to have dirt floors.
Years ago, people would just end up burying things to get rid of them, but people also hid things that they did not want found.
Is this something we really need to dig into a little bit more to check out? Absolutely.
This is my daughter's room.
A lot of activity has happened.
Footsteps go in and out from that room to this room.
And that door slammed, and no one was in the house.
Up at the head of the stairs was where my daughter saw an apparition.
It's pretty sad that here this is a really nice bedroom, and she can't even sleep in it.
She sleeps downstairs on a couch.
Also, she likes to collect antiques.
There are several items.
That mirror set and those dolls.
These are called frozen Charlotte dolls.
They started making them around 1812, and the story behind them is There was a little girl named Charlotte, and she refused to wear a coat on a sleigh ride to a New Year's Eve Ball.
And she actually froze to death.
Parents would use these to remind their children of the tale, and so they would put their coats on.
Here again, too, with old photographs And sometimes these people, they only had one photograph taken of them.
So that would be very personal.
Energy could be attached to something like this.
Also my son has experienced quite a few things and has been scared out of his room quite a few times.
Your Mom tells me you're a little scared of being up here alone, huh? Mm-hmm.
Can you tell me why that is? Well, any time I was sleeping up here, I heard some footsteps moving across the room And no one was in the other room.
What moment stands out that is the scariest moment? Well, I was asleep, and I woke up, and there were two glowing eyes.
I felt really scared.
I never really wanted to stay here again.
How long has it been since you've slept up here? Five months.
How do you actually feel about this house? I hate it.
This house is a house.
It's not a home.
I'm gonna get my team in here.
We're gonna do our baseline sweep.
I'm gonna do everything I can to help you out.
Thank you, John.
I really need answers.
You know I'm a little concerned right at this point in time.
Marilyn has two teenage children that don't even want to stay in this house.
That's critical.
Coming in here and doing our baseline sweep, I want to be able to determine whether we're dealing with something on a paranormal level, or are there things that we can actually rule out, especially in an old home? Jess, this is a bunch of items they actually have found in the wall.
Got the old liver pills and all kinds of different things that they would give to people, so Not getting too much of anything on here.
Let's debunk as much as we can.
So I know that they said that they found items down here.
Yeah.
This looks like an awl, something to punch holes in fabric, where you can make holes.
Hey! That's weird.
Giving off a slight reading and then gone.
Here's a spoon.
I got a few brief hits on the EMF meter.
These are inanimate metal objects, and they're not carrying a current of their own, so the reason for these seemingly random spikes, I can't put my finger on it just yet.
Gonna leave all this stuff exactly where we found it.
Well, Jess, this item here, it's an old knife.
Oh, look at that.
There's rust on there.
Yeah, a lot of times too, blood remains on these things.
Wow, that looks like blood.
Wow.
It's kind of a creepy item, but I'm not really getting any readings off of it.
We should definitely try an EVP session over in this area.
Okay.
Did this knife belong to you? Are you the one that is scaring Marilyn and the kids? Can you tell me your name? Why don't you play that back? Did this knife belong to you? Are you the one that is scaring Marilyn and the kids? Can you tell me your name? Go back.
What is that? Can you tell me your name? Paul? .
That's as clear as day.
- Marilyn's son's name is Paul.
- Wow.
The question is, what are they trying to get across? Well, that's what we're here to find out.
The acoustics of the ceiling, I mean, you got the roof.
Sound will bounce off differently.
I think that's definitely a factor.
As far as the boy's room is concerned, I really feel that because this room is so much different than the other ones in the house, the acoustics in this room would cause sound to be received differently.
Again, don't know where he saw these red eyes, but I see the red traffic light, and there's brake lights.
That's something that I can't ignore that.
I can see both the traffic light and the brake lights of cars.
Let's get readings in here just to be safe.
Concerning the red eyes, he's got a window that faces out to a busy street.
So, again, I feel safe that this is a debunk.
This is jiggling.
They're very shaky.
I mean, sometimes like when you open a door in one part of the house, the pressure in the room causes everything else to shake.
I've seen it where it's opened doors, like the pressure actually can open another door, so Yeah.
Chris, this is the pinkest room you'll ever see in your life.
Holy cow.
Actually, she's got antiques all over this room.
It's an interesting thing for a young girl.
Wow, that is an old-looking picture.
It's pretty worn.
All right, let's get a quick sweep of everything else.
1.
7 off of the carousel thing.
- Really? - Yeah.
Where's that coming from? There's a tree, there's a Dude, what is thai? It's a music box.
Did it just start on its own? There's a tree, there's a - Dude, what is that? - It's a music box.
Did it just start on its own? That's weird.
Me and Brian are in the girl's room and the carousel starts going off, and it's really weird.
I mean, there's no reason why this thing should be going off.
I'm not getting a reading off it.
Look at this.
This is a little shaky.
Us walking around here could have done that.
The dresser had been pushed up against the closet in such a way that the carousel, which had previously been wound, was wedged up against the wall.
And us moving around or maybe knocking into the dresser caused it to come away enough to start turning again.
Well, note it, and we'll mention it to your Dad.
As far as I'm concerned, we just debunked it.
Marilyn did not have a lot of information about who owned the house before her, so I think a good place for Jason and I to start would be find out who's lived there in the past and just a little bit about the history of the property.
I found some historic maps.
It was home of the English immigrant, Robert Jones.
His home is right here.
There's a blacksmith shop right next door and a sawmill in the back.
In essence, he was running a small industry here.
Robert Jones you think that could be the same person that's on the piece of paper? It's crazy.
We found a piece of paper, and it said "R.
Jones" on it, but it was in a box that had medical supplies, do you have any idea why something like that would be in there? This is a very isolated rural community.
There's no hospital, very little medical aid available.
And sawmills, you know, there's no osha regulating workplace safety.
It was a dangerous world to work in, and there was lots of injuries.
Missing limbs, crushed limbs, cuts in the blacksmith shop, burns.
He was probably able to treat injuries of these workers in his house.
Very rarely did someone go to a hospital, even for what we would consider a grievous injury.
Do you think that he kind of got the reputation as being a Doctor? That's possible.
In a community like this, certain people became known as folks who could help you out in the event of an injury or illness.
Now that we know the original owner, Robert Jones, was the acting town Doctor during the early 1900s, Jason and I are looking into any unusual deaths near the sawmill or surrounding area.
Jason, look.
Good job, guys.
You got some really good information.
And we also looked and we found a news article from 1915.
And the headline is "Man stabbed in front of house".
A woman on West Exeter street.
- Which is right here - Right.
She heard a commotion outside, and she went outside to check it out, and she found her husband, Paul Coleman.
- And it says - Paul? - Mm-hum.
- That's an EVP we got last night.
- Really? - Yes.
Well, he actually died of blood loss.
My guess is this house here is the only place where there was medical supplies or a Doctor.
- Yeah.
- She probably brought him here.
Wow.
We have a stabbing victim named Paul, the same name we may have recorded on an EVP.
Which we got while standing right next to the knife.
We'll definitely have to look into this more closely.
Tonight, I will be on the monitors on the second floor.
Jess and Chris will check out the living room and the kitchen.
And Jason and Brian will take the basement.
Here it is.
Last night, your Dad and I got an EVP "Paul".
Maybe we should try again with the EVPs.
- What do you think? - Yeah.
If there's someone here with us, can you tell us your name? Is your name Paul? Were you the man killed down the street? I don't know about you, but I don't hear anything.
Yeah.
Fairly satisfied that everything down here is as it was last night.
Do you want to do a sweep with the metal detector to see if we can pick up anything else? Yeah, it can't hurt.
Marilyn actually, she found a bunch of these items down in the basement, so we're hoping to use the metal detector and maybe dig up some more stuff that she hasn't found yet.
So this is gonna pick up at least a foot deep.
Cool.
Okay, now, each of those tones represents a different metal.
Mmm.
All right, there's a penny right there.
- Confirmed, Jason Gates.
- Thank you.
The most interesting item, I think, in the entire house is in here actually.
It's over here.
The stuff that Marilyn found in the wall.
What have we got? There's a handwritten note.
The name that we found is the name of a Doctor that used to live here, and there's the possibility that Paul, the man who was stabbed Oh, my gosh! What was that? You stay here.
I'm gonna go back and look.
What on Earth? I was shocked.
It actually made me jump.
It was the first time in a long time that something actually got me scared.
- Is that causing this? - That is not the same sound.
Pretty solid.
That's about right.
That came from inside the house.
It's interesting that Marilyn describes hearing phantom knocks on her kitchen door, because now me and Jess are hearing the same knocks.
So I went outside to see if it was a bird or an animal making these noises, but I didn't find anything.
Beep, beep.
Okay, what am I standing on? Is this a metal door? It's coming from underneath whatever it is.
It's kind of heavy.
Nope.
All right, this definitely wasn't happening last night.
- This I would have noticed.
- Yeah.
Definitely strongest.
All right, I have no idea.
All right, you know what? I've got a shovel over there.
Okay.
Hold on for a second.
Stop digging for a second.
Did you hear that? I thought I heard something, but, uh What the heck is that, dude? Is it coming from outside, or is it coming from in here? I'm hearing it right over by the window, so What the Did you (Bleep) Hear that, dude? I'm hearing it right over by the window, so What the Did you (Bleep) Hear that, dude? - Like a whisper or - Yeah.
- Something breathing? - Something breathing.
Hello, hello? Me and Brian were down there, and I I hear kind of a whisper out of the corner of my ear.
And the first time I heard it, I kind of, you know, just brushed it off.
The second time, I mean, it was so distinct.
It sounded like somebody was literally whispering in our ear.
It was creepy.
Let's go back to the objects actually.
Just curious.
Okay, that spoon.
I have all these.
Spoon wasn't giving much.
Awl Okay, that's weird, man.
- Hey, Johnny.
- What's up, buddy? Getting weird readings, and we're hearing some sounds down here.
Okay, I'm on my way down, dude.
- So what's happening? - Everything down here has been strange.
We heard a voice in the corner, and then this awl is giving us question marks.
They dug this up, what, several years back when they were renovating and fixing things up in here? I don't know.
Brian and Jason are convinced that this is an awl.
I'm not quite sure at this point in time.
I want to get it to an expert and find out.
I'm on my way to go meet with Bill.
He's an antiques expert in tools.
I'm not quite sure what this item is, but I'm hoping he can answer that for me.
This is an early ice pick.
Probably late 1800s, early 1900s.
Almost every house had one because they had block ice.
Pretty important, since it was your only source of refrigeration.
They were originally handmade.
So basically, it was a very common item to find in a household.
- Every house had one.
- Yeah.
I'm still not sure how this ice pick relates to our investigation, but with all the phenomena surrounding it, it's worth mentioning it to Marilyn.
So, Aim, um When you were doing your research, did you actually come across any description of the murder weapon? .
An ice pick? - Yep.
- Oh! All right, meet me over at Marilyn's place.
Well, Marilyn, as you know, we came in to do our investigation.
We did our baseline sweep.
Jess and I were walking through doing EVPs.
We caught one that I would like you to listen to right now.
Can you tell me your name? .
Is it saying Paul? Yes.
Oh, my God.
It's saying Paul.
That That is That's really freaky.
Oh, my God.
My son's name is Paul, and that with saying that name Just really, really gave me the creeps.
Right now, I'd like Aimee to share what her and Jason were able to find out about the property.
Yeah, we were able to find out that the original owner of the house, his name was Robert Jones.
And he owned the house here, and adjacent to the property, a blacksmith shop, and on the property, a sawmill.
And as you know, back then it wasn't very safe.
There was a lot of injuries.
And at that time, there wasn't nearby Doctors' offices - or hospitals - Right.
And so I think he kind of became the person to come to if anyone was sick or injured, so that probably explains the medical items you found in your wall.
We also learned that, around the same time, just about one street over, there was a man who was stabbed.
And he was actually stabbed with an ice pick.
And, um, you know, there's no way to tell for sure, but I think there's a very, very good chance that he was probably brought here.
Oh.
I just want to show you the name of the gentleman that was stabbed and that was brought here.
Oh, wow, Paul Coleman.
Oh, my God.
Pretty ironic that you have Two Pauls.
Which leads me into the night investigation.
Brian and Jason were downstairs in the basement, and they started getting some crazy readings around that item that was up on the windowsill.
They were calling it an awl.
So, naturally, I took it to an expert to be able to tell me something about it, and it was an ice pick.
And it dates from the early 1900s, which is the same time frame as the nearby murder.
Whoa.
Can I honestly tell you that this ice pick is the item that actually killed that individual? No I can't tell you that.
- Right.
- But do I feel that connection is there? I think so.
I would defiantly think so.
- Well - That makes sense.
What would you like to do with this item? If it has anything Connection with this other Paul Get rid of it.
I'm looking forward to seeing how things might change in this house by removing that item.
I'm hoping that things will calm down.
Renovating her house Marilyn found this old ice pick but she never removed it.
By taking it away now I hope to sever any ties between, Marilyn's family and the items possible violent history.
