Haunted Collector (2011) s02e12 Episode Script

Haunted Island - Ghosts Of Maui

- On this episode - Aloha.
- Of Haunted Collector John: All right, guys, welcome to Hawaii.
Every single window and door opened and closed.
Aimee: This is the flesh fork.
This was used by cannibals.
There was a woman servant that committed suicide.
- [Slam.]
- Oh, (Bleep)! Welcome to Iao Theater.
The theater sits on the top of these burials.
This is a time capsule.
- I can see a woman.
- There's some type of a room under there.
- Be careful.
- What is that? Holy (Bleep).
- I think I just saw something.
- Where? Brian: Right next to you, dude.
Holy (Bleep).
My name is John Zaffis.
For over 40 years, I've been helping people with their paranormal problems.
[Door slams.]
I found that spirits can attach themselves to objects.
- Whoa! - Oh, there it goes! Oh, my God! John: And make life a living hell.
That's where my team comes in.
My son Chris, my daughter Aimee.
Brian, my tech guy, Jason, my researcher.
And Jesslyn, my investigator.
My job? - What is that? - Don't touch that thing.
John: Find the haunted item and remove it.
Because I am the Haunted Collector.
[Music.]
Brian: All right.
This bad boy's got a camera attached to the front.
All we got to do is mount it, and we'll be able to uh, zoom into places that we haven't been able to reach before.
Hey.
- Hey.
- Hey, Johnny.
Come on in inside.
We got a new case that just came in from a guy in Hawaii, and it is creepy.
Hey, John, my name is Steve Bumbar.
I'm the President of the company that runs the majority of the island here of Lanai.
We have several properties here that have had some paranormal activity.
People feel like somebody's crawling into bed with them, windows opening and closing.
I personally went through a bed-shaking experience.
And then I was frozen, locked in a state that I couldn't move.
We don't want people to have bad experiences here on Lanai.
So, John, I need some help.
- That's creepy.
- I'm taking this pretty seriously.
We need to head out there as soon as possible.
- Let's head to Hawaii.
- Let's go, guys.
John: All right, guys, here we are on the remote island of Lanai.
The place we're going to used to be a pineapple plantation back in the day.
Okay, we're going to be meeting with Steve, he's the President of a corporation.
And we're going to be investigating two executive homes.
A lot of the people from the corporation stay here, so you have very powerful people that are staying here, so Steve is very concerned.
So are you ready for this? We're about to investigate the most haunted place on this island.
Chris, Brian, Jesslyn, I really want you to check out both of the houses.
We got a lot of territory to cover.
Jason, go talk to some witnesses, okay? Brian: Copy that, Johnny.
- Aloha.
- Hi, Steve.
Nice to finally meet you, Sir.
- Pleasure how are you? - My daughter Aimee.
Pleasure to meet you.
Welcome to Lanai.
Thanks for having us.
We have two houses here in particular that we've experienced some things.
This is a carriage house built in the '20s.
This is where all the VP's come and stay.
And when I stayed here, that's when all hell broke loose.
So if you want to come inside, I can walk you through the scenarios.
- Okay.
- Let's take a look.
This is the bedroom.
I was sleeping in this bed, and it was about 3:30 in the morning.
All of a sudden, this bed started shaking.
I thought it was an earthquake, then it started to get more intense.
This thing was vibrating, and then it just stopped.
I went over to reach over here to grab my cell phone, and I couldn't move.
Everything was just locked into place.
I thought I had a heart attack and died.
It was about 10 minutes later, I finally got loose, so I grabbed the phone, and I called one of my friends, and I left him a message.
.
Spirit is known to actually pin people down.
You can't talk, you can't move, you can't do anything.
Years ago, we used to call this phantomania.
But we know today that, due to scientific studies and different things, there is sleep paralysis that does the same exact thing.
Steve: Welcome to the social hall.
This is a six-bedroom house, that was the head of the plantation at the time when it was built.
We experience a lot of paranormal activities in here.
I had a crew of about eight guys, and the first night at about 2:00 in the morning Every single window and door you see in this property opened and closed, opened and closed, opened and closed.
[Banging.]
That probably went on for about 20 minutes.
- 20 minutes? - For 20 minutes.
And if you look at these old windows and how heavy they are, you know that's not the wind.
We have some objects up here.
These glass knives date back to the 1930s, and they were actually used for cutting fruits.
Because at that time, if you had a steel knife, it would actually discolor it.
This is a flesh fork from Fiji, and this was used by cannibals.
And the idea of it back then was, why just kill your enemy so that they can come and haunt you? So they would kill their enemies and eat them, and, to them, that was taking their souls.
Very interesting.
This is the room that we've had people laying on the bed, sleeping at night with their chest being compressed, so they couldn't breathe.
Actually literally running out of the house, and these are grown men, believe it or not.
Well, Steve, I know the Hawaiian culture believes in making, the Tiki Statues to ward off evil.
This doesn't appear to actually be Hawaiian.
It looks Asian to me.
A lot of times when you bring these statues into locations, lot of these things can be conflicting, with the spirituality that's already there in existence.
I'm going to get my team in here, we're going to try and verify some of the things that you are telling us.
Well, that's why we brought you here.
Mahalo.
John: Steve's the President of a big corporation.
He doesn't have time to try and figure out why some of these things are occurring.
He's actually looking for some type of resolution.
I'm hoping we're able to figure that out for him.
John: I think we'll start all the way in the back in that back bedroom.
Jesslyn: Okay.
We got this one item right here.
He doesn't know exactly where it came from.
I'm not getting much off of it at all.
This is the room that the bed started to shake.
Are there earthquakes in Hawaii? - Could that have accounted for it? - Possibly.
[Exhales.]
Not getting any readings.
Jess, we got a couple of the items up over here.
Let's test them out.
We're not really picking up too much energy.
- Why don't you try some EVPs over here? - All right.
[Beep.]
If there's someone here with us, can you give us a sign? Did you live on the land? [Thumping.]
What the hell was that? I don't know, but I'm hearing it.
Shh.
Let's go.
Am I crazy? It was coming from in here, right? Yeah.
[Thumping.]
Hearing that? [Thump.]
[Thump.]
That's outside.
[Thump.]
- [Slam.]
- Oh, (Bleep).
Let's go out.
We were trying to do an EVP session, and all of a sudden, one of the windows just slammed.
I realize we're on top of the Mountain here, but there was no breeze actually coming through at that point in time, so can I attribute it to the wind? Not at this point.
It was that window over here, right, or that screen? This was this window.
Have you been out here today? Was that like that? We weren't out on the exterior that much.
It looks like there's some type of a room under there.
That's definitely creepy looking.
You ready to venture? Come on, kiddo.
Be careful.
Coming in behind you.
What is that? - [Bang.]
- Oh, my God! John: What the hell? It looks like there's some type of a room underneath there.
That's definitely creepy looking.
Jess and I were preparing to do an EVP session, when we started hearing different sounds and everything.
Then all of a sudden, one of the windows just slammed.
- [Slam.]
- Oh, my (Bleep).
John: So we went outside.
I could see that there was an entryway.
It's something we really got to check into and investigate.
Come on, kiddo.
Be careful.
Coming in behind you.
John: All kinds of junk in here.
Jesslyn: Oh, my God.
Huh.
What in the hell did we just find? I don't know.
There's a really old, rusty bed frame down here.
Yeah, I see that.
I mean, I hate to say it, but it looks like somebody's been living under here.
- [Crash.]
- Oh, my God! What the hell? John: I'm very curious about the room.
Why would somebody build a room underneath a porch? It has a window in it, and it has this bed frame in there, so it's something I really want to check into.
Aimee: According to Hawaiian legend, the land we're investigating may be in the path of the Night Marcher's.
They're ancient warriors that are believed to raise from the ground and avenge their death.
So Jason and I are going to meet with a local man whose name is Uncle Bobby.
- Uncle Bobby, aloha.
- Jason, nice to meet you.
Aimee: He is Native here to Lanai.
He knows a ton about the culture and the belief system.
So, hopefully, he can give us some good information.
So what exactly is a Night Marcher? Are they spirits of fallen warriors, or .
What happens if you see a Night Marcher? .
Can you tell us if the Night Marchers' path goes through the property that houses the social hall and the carriage house? .
But the social hall itself, it is not in the path of the Night Marchers? No, not in the Night Marchers.
We learned the land that we're investigating isn't directly in the Night Marchers' path, but it is very close.
So I think everybody needs to really keep their guard up.
John: Aloha.
- Aloha.
- Aloha.
Had quite a bit that went on last night, guys so Tonight, let's really dig in there, and let's see what we can come up with.
John: For tonight's investigation, Brian and Chris will be in the carriage house.
Jason and I will be in the social hall.
And Jess will monitor surveillance.
Brian: Okay, hitting record now.
Thermal camera is up and running.
So if we get any fluctuations in temperature, we should be able to see it right there on the screen.
Okay, here's a test.
See the wall over here? - Yep.
- What color is the wall? Blue.
Okay.
Put my hand on it.
Three, two, one.
- Hand print? - Yep.
Okay, good.
Let's hit Steve's room.
All right, let me get some readings in here.
- Switching on.
- [Meter beeps.]
It's minute But there's definitely a higher signature in here today than there was yesterday.
Um, all right, I'm gonna come over there.
Point 4.
Yeah, I don't know why the radiation in here is slightly higher.
I'm not sure what's going on in this room, to be honest.
Jason: You want to do maybe an EVP session over by the beds? Yeah, good idea.
[Recorder beeps.]
Let's do this.
Can you tell me what year it is? Is there something about this land that we need to know about? Are you the one that scares all the men? - You want to listen back? - Yeah, go ahead, dude.
Okay.
John: Can you tell me what year it is? Jason: Is there something about this land that we need to know about? Are you the one that scares all the men? Brian: Okay.
Hang on a second.
Brian: What's with this bed frame here? Anything? [Monitor beeps.]
[Beeping steadily.]
- What's going on over there? - The temperature alarm is acting weird.
It's not turning off.
[Beeping intensifies.]
Wow.
Ooh, I think I just saw something.
- It went across my screen.
- Where? Right next to you, dude.
Holy (Bleep).
- Brian: What's going on over there? - The temperature alarm is acting weird.
It's not turning off.
Ooh, I think I just saw something.
- It went across my screen.
- Where? Right next to you, dude.
It was cold.
It was big, and it was blue.
- I don't feel anything.
- This definitely picked up on something.
I don't know, man.
I think we should call my dad.
- John, are you there? - Yeah, buddy, what's up? Chris and I are in the crawl space, and you need to come down here.
On my way.
Brian: Whatever passed in front of the screen was dark blue on the thermal, and that indicates cold.
Possible that something passed in front of the lens that could have been cold, but given the size of it and the way it moved, I can't come up with a good explanation for what it was.
You guys want to see? There's Chris.
His temperature gauge is going off right about now.
- What? What the hell is that? - That.
All right, I pan over to try to find it again, and I don't see anything.
Wow.
Right around this bed frame, huh? Yep.
This is the only thing down here.
I don't know what it's doing down here.
Chris, lift that other one forward there a little bit.
- Is there anything back here? - Chris: It's just more cobwebs.
All right, guys, there's something tying in with all this.
I need to get a little bit more information about this room and what it was used for.
Why is this bed frame down here? - Right.
- Wow.
John: The Castle & Cooke property used to be a pineapple plantation, so I'm meeting with Larry Mano.
- How you doing, John? Nice to meet you.
- Same here, buddy.
John: All of his family had worked on the plantation, but there's not a lot of records.
Historical facts are actually passed down through generation to generation.
So Larry is going to be one of my best sources of information.
We're looking at a piece of property here, the old social hall.
I know about it.
It's a very old house.
It was built in the '20s.
Mm-hmm There was a manager that ran the plantation.
He was tough person to work for, because he was mean, you know.
Also, there were rumors that he abused some of his servants, actually, yeah.
I remember my grandfather telling me that there was a woman servant that maybe cannot face herself, that she eventually committed suicide.
Ah.
Near the premises of that social hall, yeah.
Wow.
As we were investigating, we were able to find an area under that big front porch.
It was a servant's room.
Okay.
The only thing that was left in there was this old, rusted-out bed frame.
All of the plantation workers had beds like this.
This was very common in the early '30s.
- This was a woman's bed.
- Ah, okay.
- Because of the flower.
- Yeah? And I notice that there's a tea leaf that's tied around this corner of this bed here.
Uh-huh.
In the old days, our Native Hawaiians their, beliefs were that the tea leaf protected them.
From evil spirits or negative energy.
If that woman did commit suicide in this bed, somebody was afraid.
They tied the tea leaf to protect - Really? - The rest of the household.
To bind the spirit to the bed.
Okay.
John: We were drawn towards this bed frame.
We had the good possibility of one of the servants committing suicide in that area.
All of it's making sense to me at this point in time.
Steve, good to see again, buddy.
We did have quite a bit of activity on our baseline sweep.
Up towards the front here in the porch area, one of the windows did actually slam up there.
So that brought us downstairs to start checking into things, and we discovered what looks like a room beneath the house.
Really? I was not aware that there was a room down below this house.
Right now, I have these weird chills running through my body.
Which leads me to when we were doing our second night investigation in here.
And we captured something underneath the porch here with a thermal imager.
And I'd like to show you that video right now.
Chris is doing EMF to see if he can pick up anything.
Wow.
And at that point in time, they were getting some high readings off of the bed frame that was right up against the back wall there.
All these things started pointing down into that area.
I'd like to take a walk over and share the rest of the information that I have with you, okay? Good.
Steve: Wow.
I actually met with a person today, and he was the third generation that had worked here on the plantation.
He explained to me that some of the servants had used that as a sleeping area.
Right.
That's the type of bed that they would use, and there were flowers painted on there.
It was most likely a woman's bed, and he says one of the maids had committed suicide here on the property.
He leaned back in the jeep, and he took a look at it, and he goes, well John that's a tea leaf.
He told me they would use tea leaves to actually bind the negative energy to an item or to a location.
If it was a female spirit that's attached, could this bed have belonged to the woman who committed suicide? We can't rule that out.
It's just pretty amazing, because now it seems to tie this whole thing together.
It just seems to make sense.
I need to ask you, Sir.
What would you like to do with this item? I'd like you to remove it from the property if you could.
- Okay.
- Thank you very much for coming.
- Thank you very much for having us.
- Thanks.
Steve: Hopefully, the activity doesn't continue.
We don't want any negative experiences for anybody that we bring to this island.
So we're very grateful that John and Aimee took the bed frame, and many Mahalo's for them to come out here.
John: Whether negative energy is attached to the bed frame or not.
I'm hoping Steve and his guests will sleep a little better, knowing it's off the island.
Hi, John.
I'm Michael.
I work here at the historic Iao Theater on Maui.
This is a very famous silent movie theater.
It's kind of evolved into live theater over the years, and we have a problem.
Voices that can't be explained, lights going on and off.
I've seen a female that's kind of flying around the building.
A lot of the actors don't like being in certain portions of the building by themselves.
It makes it hard to get work done.
Hopefully, you'll be willing to come out here and help us out.
John: Here it is, guys Maui.
Well, guys, I've been going back and forth with Michael.
He runs the Iao Theater.
They got all kinds of activity going on, they're very concerned.
And we're going in to be able to help them out.
You know, the theater dates back to the 1920s, when it was actually used as a Vaudeville theater.
And during the world war, it was used for USO show's for soldiers nearby.
Okay, guys, Aimee and I are going to go ahead over to see what we can find out.
I want the rest of youse to dig in, find witnesses, see anything that you can actually come up with.
That doesn't mean surfing, and that doesn't mean working on a tan.
All right, guys, let's go.
All right, Aim, let's go in and meet with Michael.
Definitely a beautiful old theater, huh, Aimee? - Yes.
- Hi, John.
- Hey, Mike, how are you? - Good.
- Welcome to the Iao Theater.
- Well, thanks for having us.
This is my daughter, Aimee.
- Hi, Aimee.
- Nice to meet you.
So, Michael, what exactly is happening here in the theater, you know, in all the different locations up in here? This room, we've had things flying off of the shelves Sound board suddenly shutting itself down, the lights going off, going back on again.
Mm-hmm.
And not only myself, but several people have seen a female entity.
It's a mist-like figure with a luminescence to it.
But then, sort of where we're standing and below us, there's another entity that tends to scare the actors, when they're backstage in the dressing rooms.
And especially late at night, you get that overwhelming get out of the building feeling, literally shutting down productions on occasion.
This is a time capsule.
Let's get this open.
What the hell? 18? That's a chant.
Holy (Bleep).
Something moved.
What is that? Holy (Bleep).
You get that overwhelming get out of the building feeling, literally shutting down productions on occasion.
I feel bad that individuals that, work at the Iao Theater don't want to go in the bathroom by themselves.
They don't want to go downstairs.
It would be nice that they didn't have that overwhelming fear.
We have a number of older items, that I think date back to the beginnings of the building.
And one is this trunk right here, which we're going to be using as a set piece.
And I think maybe it was originally used to transport, the celluloid film from the harbor.
It's an old steamer trunk.
Personal items being put in there or film or anything, can these different types of items hold onto energy? Absolutely.
So this is the women's dressing room.
This is one of the rooms that, when people say they're scared of being in the building, it generally happens in here.
People hearing voices, thinking someone's right outside the door.
But then they go to investigate it, and there's nobody there.
I was right out here outside the door, and this female voice said my name.
And just started going kind of crazy.
I looked around, there was no one there.
I was absolutely kind of freaked out by it.
This room is totally sealed, so there would only be one place for a person to be.
And I already knew there was no person there.
It was really scary.
This is an old stage phone, which I think goes back to about the '60s.
And a lot of times, when you have these instances that I was talking about Hearing somebody talking to you, people think it's coming through here, but when they pick up the phone to talk to the Stage Manager, they didn't say anything.
Have phones been used in the past for a spirit to actually communicate? Absolutely.
I have several antique ones in the museum.
That may or may not be the case here at the theater, so we're going to have to find out.
Michael: So this is the attic.
Generally speaking, we store things up here that we don't need very often.
We have a whole bunch of older items.
I have no idea how far back they date.
This is an ancient Hawaiian weapon.
It's called a Pahoa, and it has shark teeth right in it.
And it was used in battle to kill people at close range.
Actual teeth, and the way it looks, well You never know what it's been involved with, definitely could hold onto energy.
So there's one last thing.
This is supposedly a time capsule.
It was put here in the '20s.
My hunch is the activity has something to do with that.
Okay.
So we have received permission from the County to go ahead and have you break this open.
Michael, I'm noticing that there's new cement underneath it here.
Apparently, it's a completely separate piece of concrete.
Oh, okay, so the items are actually inside that.
Encased in it.
Well, Michael, I'm going to bring the team in, do everything we can to find out what's happening, okay? - Thanks again.
- Thank you, Sir, for having us.
Michael seems pretty sincere about what he's sharing and what he's telling us.
So tonight with the baseline, I'm hoping that we can come in and actually debunk several of the things that are occurring here in the old theater.
Yeah, so, I mean, right now, I'm pretty much, you know, just base lined at about a point 3.
This is the Pahoa.
This is the weapon that John and Aimee were telling us about.
I'm not getting any sort of reading off of it.
One thing, looking at it, too, you know, it actually doesn't look that old.
Looks like it has some kind of lacquer on it.
- That's a good point.
- And it actually smells.
- You can smell the lacquer on it.
- Oh, yeah.
I'm pretty sure if this was authentic, they wouldn't have lacquered it.
I'd say it's a prop.
- Brian: This looks old.
- Chris: Yeah, it definitely does.
Looks like it's been at the bottom of the ocean for 20 years.
Chris: Does it open? [Laughs.]
Sorry.
- Got me.
- What's in there, what's in there? Ooh, no one.
Yeah, I think they got a lot of their props and things in these things.
This is all new.
Trunk, old, items, new.
So this is probably the line that was connected to the stage.
Whoa, I just got an 18.
7! 18? Just give it a second, just hold it still.
Give it a good 30 seconds.
See if it spikes again.
We were getting crazy high EMF readings off the stage phone.
Is there power running to it, and where does it come from? I checked behind the wall, I checked all around it.
We unplugged every single wire.
This is something we're definitely going to have to look into in the investigation.
Let's just go out and hit that time capsule on the corner of the building there, I want to see what's in there.
There's a time capsule.
Here's something that's been around for 90-plus years.
If they're willing to let us rip that thing up, it means they're serious about finding out what the hell's going on at this theater.
- This is it? - That's it, buddy.
Brian: Definitely getting a little reading off of this.
Let's get this open.
Let's see.
All right.
I got some give.
Give it a pull from there if you can.
Guess we got to break this part open and see what's in there, right? It's inside it somewhere there, Brian.
Pull.
We're definitely sure that there's a time capsule in here? We're sure of nothing.
After the big concrete block broke into two pieces, no sign of a time capsule at all.
I'm beginning to think that if it is in here, it's very small.
The pieces just don't want to break.
Alright, Brian, try to break another one there.
Let's see.
We're getting down to it.
I'm running out of pieces.
Ready? Watch yourselves, watch your eyes, guys.
- Chris: What is that? - Is that what we're looking for? John: What the hell? - Chris: What is that? - Is that what we're looking for? What the hell? I think we found our time capsule.
Wow.
Okay.
- Chris: What the hell is in it? - I don't know.
All right, guys, let's head inside and open this up.
- I don't even want to open it up out here.
- Good idea.
Brian: After the concrete broke into pieces, we just pulled out this film tin.
This definitely wasn't what I was expecting when I heard time capsule.
But at one point, this place was a movie theater, so it's not that unusual.
- Wow.
- Is that film? - Yeah.
- It's old.
Old photos here, too.
Wow.
Maybe just to show how the, uh, area was at the time.
Wow.
What connection to the theater does this actually have? Was it someone that was involved with building it? Was it someone that performed here, and they wanted to be remembered? Right at this point in time, I don't have those answers, but I will find out.
Jason: The theater is located right at the base of the Iao Valley, which is considered sacred territory.
So me and Aimee are going to meet with a woman named Janet, hoping to find out, you know, some more information about the surrounding area.
Iao Valley is one of the most important and sacred sites in all of Hawaii.
Kamehameha I, who was really the usurper, he wanted this spot.
He came and opened fire on it.
[Gunshots.]
And the warriors were used to hand-to-hand combat, not gunpowder and cannons.
These warriors panicked, and started to try to scramble up these incredibly steep cliffs.
And as they would tumble down, the bodies piled and blocked the water.
So the river would've run red, as you can imagine.
The theater sits on top of the land that was all part of this very sacred site.
So Iao Theater is connected to these battles, this history, and these burials.
Aimee: The thing that really clicked with me was you're talking about the remains of ancient warriors that are still buried very close nearby.
- You think there could be a connection? - That's something we cannot rule out.
One thing I know several of youse are waiting to hear about is the time capsule.
I want to use the items we found in there as trigger objects tonight.
So I'm just curious to see, you know, if anything's going to happen whatsoever.
In tonight's investigation Brian will be on the monitors backstage.
Jess and Jason will check out the dressing room downstairs.
And Chris and I will be on the main stage.
All right, let's rock and roll.
Can you see me all the way over here? Sure can.
I can cover the lower seats, even up to the upper level seats.
Cool, cool, looks good, dude.
Dead center.
All the I.
R.
cameras are in place.
Let's get into the night sweep.
You know what? We're going to put one of these on the trunk.
- Okay.
- All right.
And I want to put one of these up in back when we go up there.
Okay.
Chris: We set up trigger items tonight with the time capsule that we opened.
A trigger item is more like a piece of bait.
You bait a hook and you try and catch fish.
We're doing the same thing, but with spirits.
Let's see if we get any EMF readings.
Let's take some more readings on this and see if we're getting the same thing we were having yesterday.
The first thing that we wanted to get into was to investigate the phone further.
Because last night in the baseline, we were getting crazy EMF readings.
- Alright.
- Okay, hold on, hold on, hold on.
- Whoa, all right.
- Hang on.
Ah! - What is this thing? - You know what it is? It's a magnet, so we're literally picking up the magnetism from the magnet.
If we take a screw - Boom.
- Let's put this thing back up.
- You getting anything? - No, not really.
- Want to try a EVP session? - Yeah.
All right.
Is anyone here with us tonight? Did you live on the land? Were you an actor or actress? Chris, play that back.
Is anyone here with us tonight? Did you live on the land? [Whispering.]
What the (Bleep) Is that? Go back! [Whispering.]
What is that? [Whispering.]
That's a chant.
As Chris and I were sitting there, we were listening to the EVP when we played it back.
It's some type of a chanting.
[Whispers repeating.]
First thing that goes through my mind is the history and the different things that occurred here on Maui.
This is actually the first time I've ever captured chanting.
That's (Bleep) Amazing.
Let's walk up.
I want to do an EVP session up in the projector room up there.
All right.
- Do you have the recorder? - Yes.
Can you tell me why you are here? You got to be (Bleep) Kidding me.
- Hey, John, are you there? - Yeah, what's up, buddy? Are you guys flashing a light down on the stage? No, we're up actually in the projector room.
- Do you see anything up on the stage? - No, I do not.
Something just came up across the system.
Um, I'm not exactly sure what.
- Go and take a look at it.
- I don't believe this.
Yeah, get down here.
Calling it up now, but something moved across the stage.
Pay attention to the left side the screen.
What is that? John: Holy (Bleep).
What is that? Brian: Something moved across the stage.
What is that? John: Holy (Bleep).
What is that? - I have no idea what that is.
- Now it's gone again.
We see this white, misty form actually moving across, and then stopping at the table where that tin was.
The only thing I can do right now is take a step back and go, holy (Bleep).
It's stopping right by where I left the, uh, time capsule.
Let's go look and see if we can figure this out.
All right, yeah, it didn't move past this point.
Yeah, but I'm just double-checking to make sure.
Maybe it reflected off of that, or maybe there was a glass window in there, but there's no glass.
So the only thing left in the tin was the film? That's it.
This is somehow tying in with this whole thing.
We need to get a projector and take a look at this.
Let's see exactly what is on here.
John: I've already sent the piece of film to Jose.
He's a local photographer.
He's going to put it on a reel, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's on there.
- What can you tell me about this film? - It's a color reversal film from the 1923 is when they started making it.
It is 16 millimeter.
Back then, a car would probably cost you $550.
And this roll, the pieces would probably be about $330.
- Really? - In that range, yeah.
Would we be able to actually view this? Actually, we can.
I have a projector over there.
John: Wow.
Jose: That's it.
John: Michael believes there are more than one entity at the theater.
And now I'm beginning to think he may be right.
I can't wait to get back with the projector and this film to show Michael.
Michael, good to see you again, buddy.
- You, too.
- And thanks for having us.
We have quite a bit that we'd like to share with you.
I'd like Aimee to go over some of the history.
Aimee: The theater sits in the Iao Valley, and this is where one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history took place.
And during that time, there were so many men that were killed that their bodies actually stacked up in the river.
That's how it got its name, the Wailuku River, which means river of blood.
It could be a cause of a lot of the energy that's going on in this area.
Which brings me to something that we had actually captured in an EVP, and I'd like you to listen to that now, Michael.
Okay.
Did you live on the land? [Whispers repeating.]
Wow.
My first reaction was that it was in Hawaiian.
The cadence of the voice, it sounds like the way a lot of local people speak.
Okay, that's interesting, because if that river ran through here, and the blood soaked into the ground.
You're always going to have that type of energy that's going to be around.
I would definitely recommend that, you know, you bring one of the elders in.
Mm-hmm.
One of them to actually bless the property.
Right.
That leads me into breaking open the time capsule, that you had in the front corner there.
Right.
What was in there were a couple of postcards of pineapple fields.
- Mm-hmm.
- And also a piece of film footage.
Wow.
Okay.
Now, Michael, we had come in and set up cameras throughout the entire area.
Something that I would like to show you right now, that we actually captured here on the stage.
Yeah, that's what I've seen.
- You've seen that.
- Yeah, it's amazing.
I am so pleased and blown away, that they were able to capture a piece of video that amazing.
It stops right here.
That's where the time capsule is that I put on the table.
Some of this is all tying in with whatever's on that piece of footage.
We were able to get it to somebody in the area here that knew about photography and was able to explain the timing of it.
It fell right into the 1928 era.
I'd really like you to see a piece of that footage.
Mike, we're probably never going to know exactly who she is.
But do I feel that this is the female spirit that is reaching out? It's a good possibility.
What I saw gave me the chills.
And I am convinced That the footage is amateur footage Of the woman that lives here.
Do I feel that, that spirit's trying for some type of recognition? Absolutely.
So, Aimee and I would really like to present something to you and the theater We set up a little memorial to her.
With the film in there, and the photographs.
And hopefully people coming in will see her and give her recognition.
I'm at a loss for words.
When I saw that beautiful display it was all I could do to not just start bawling.
Because this theater is so important to all of us that work here.
And we've all had this very strong feeling that this spirit exists, and wants to be known.
And I actually got to see what she looks like.
- Thank you.
- Mahalo.
- Mahalo.
- Thank you again for coming.
With its ancient history the Iao Theater may always be haunted.
But hopefully by giving the spirits recognition Michael and his actors can take the stage, without the fear of the paranormal.
