Haunted Collector (2011) s03e02 Episode Script

Cigar Bar Spirits - Child's Play

1 - Narrator: On this episode Of Haunted Collector Welcome to Boston.
We've had a lot of creepy stuff going on here.
It flew across the whole room.
Right up through the glass door.
Here we are in Wappingers Falls, New York.
I've seen an apparition of a man.
It was scary.
My hair stood up on my neck.
Brian: Whatever it is is moving around.
- What the hell was that? - Oh, my God.
- Brian: First question is always - What the is that? - What the [Bleep.]
?! - [Gasps.]
What the [Bleep.]
was that? What the hell's going on? My name is John Zaffis.
For over 40 years, I've been helping people with their paranormal problems.
I found that spirits can attach themselves to objects - Whoa.
There it goes.
There it goes.
- Oh, my God.
And make life a living hell.
That's where my team comes in.
My son Chris, my daughter Aimee.
Brian my tech guy, Jason my researcher.
And Jesslyn my investigator.
- My job? - What is that? Man on walkie-talkie: Don't touch that thing.
John: Find the haunted item and remove it.
Because I am the Haunted Collector.
- So, dad, where did this come from? - John: It's an old oil lamp.
It came from a tomb over in Israel and started causing a lot of shadow forms.
So you've got to be very careful when you start picking these things up, and bringing them into your homes.
Hey, guys.
Sorry to interrupt, but a new case just came in.
North End of Boston.
Let's go take a look.
Hi, John.
My name is David Riccio, JR.
I work at a family-run business.
It's a cafe and a cigar bar.
This business has been in the family for generations.
We've been having a lot of paranormal issues here.
Up here in the cafe, some plates have been thrown off the counter.
One of our waitresses saw a black shadow figure behind her.
There's this area with an old crank elevator, and every time an employee goes back there, they just kind of run away because they get freaked out.
They hear noises, they see shadows.
Customers leaving.
Waitresses are scared to work.
We're losing business down here and I really hope, that you guys can get to the bottom of this and see what's happening.
Aimee, why don't you dig in and see what you can find out, before we even get up there? We definitely need to see if we can't help Dave and figure out what's happening.
- You got it.
- Okay? - Hey, Dave.
John.
- Hi, John.
Good to see you.
Same here.
My daughter Aimee.
- Aimee.
Nice to meet you.
- Nice to see you.
After you.
Dave, fill us in on what's exactly happening.
So, right now we are in Caffé Vittoria.
This is the old side.
This is the first Italian cafe in Boston.
My great-grandfather bought this building in 1927.
And my Uncle and my father took it over in 1980.
Okay.
We've had a lot of, creepy stuff going on here and I really hope we can get to the bottom of it.
For instance, at the bar, we've had plates fly off.
Also, this antique coffee grinder which was here when we opened When the workers are closing at night, they'll see it spin like this.
[Wheel squeaks.]
There's no one in the room.
They're over there locking the door, hear that squeak, they see it and they just run out.
- Any idea where it came from? - I do not.
This has been in this place, I think since we opened, actually.
John: It takes a lot to turn that huge coffee grinder, but I wanna make sure we're not looking for something logical.
It is an old building.
Are the floors crooked? When somebody walks by and it's causing a vibration and causing it to move? I don't know, but I'm gonna leave that up to the team to investigate.
David, has anything happened specifically that made the activity increase? Well, we did have renovations last year.
We fixed up a room in the basement.
We did find a lot of old tools, old oil cans, and hammers.
And ever since then, the activity that has been happening has increased dramatically.
This is our original room.
Stanza dei Sigari.
This actually was a Speakeasy in the 1920s during prohibition.
So we had a lot of shady characters down here.
And this is the room where most of the paranormal activity occurs.
Okay.
The ceiling fans will just all of a sudden spin out of control.
Freaked some customers out.
The lights will flicker on and off.
A lot of our workers are, you know, frightened to be down here.
One of our waitresses, Barbara, she's just scared to be down here alone.
It was a day shift and I was all by myself with just one customer.
And I really felt like someone came right up behind me.
So I turned back and the customer that was with me, wanted to see what I was looking at and I could see this black thing floating there.
Probably about this big and it was black, but not like a shadow, it was dark and dense.
- So this really scared you.
- It did.
It flew across the whole room.
And it flew right up through the glass door and I thought it was gonna break the glass.
And the customer said to me, you saw that? And I said, you saw that, too? So at least it validated what I was seeing.
But what gets to me is that I felt somebody standing behind me.
I felt it.
Dave, have you had anything happen to you down in this area? Yeah.
At the end of the night, it was 1:30.
- No one was down here, it was just me.
- Mm hmm.
All of a sudden, all the lights shut off on me.
And it wasn't the power because the computers were on, and I looked at the switch the switch was flicked down.
And on that door over there the side entrance, is a bell, an old crank bell.
The bell is on this side and the crank is on the other side.
The bell rang twice as if someone was standing on the other side cranking it.
That really freaked me out.
All the doors were locked, no one was down here.
It was just me.
And ever since then I usually just, wait till everyone leaves, then I leave with them.
I can't stay here by myself.
So, right here we have the old dumbwaiter elevator.
It's been in the building since it was built in 1892.
We've had complaints in the building that they have heard this being cranked up.
You know, at three in the morning when there's no one around, some of our barbacks who get ice back here get freaked out to be back here.
John: All right, Dave.
We're gonna get the team in here and, I would like you to join us in tonight's investigation.
- Absolutely.
- I'm gonna ask David to join us tonight.
Why? I wanna see if his presence is gonna actually invoke anything that's in here.
I really wanna dig in and see what we can find out, and what could be causing some of this alleged paranormal activity.
John: This is where they have the most activity, Jess.
Jesslyn: A little bit of temperature fluctuation, but nothing notable.
David: That's the vault room.
John: You know what? Let's try a few EVPs in here, let's see what happens.
Go ahead, Dave.
Feel free to throw out a question if you're comfortable.
How long have you been here? Were you the one that shut all the lights out on Dave? Did something happen to you here? Go ahead.
Play that back.
Dave: How long have you been here? John: Were you the one that shut all the lights out on Dave? Did something happen to you here? [Air whooshes.]
- Jesslyn: Right there? - John: Right there.
- It's super clear.
- I heard that.
.
That's definitely a female voice reaching out, but uh I don't know exactly what that's tying in with.
Watch your step.
All right.
Dumbwaiter's right here.
This goes up for about another four or five stories.
Getting anything off the dumbwaiter itself? - Nothing substantial.
- All right.
Well, you know what? - I'm gonna do an EVP session here.
- Alright.
[Beeps.]
First question is always, what's your name? Did you used to be a customer here or did you work here? Is anyone in here with us? Think we should listen to that back? - I'll hit play on this.
- [Beeps.]
[Elevator banging.]
Brian: First question is always, what's your name? What the [Bleep.]
is that? Brian: What the hell is that? - Think we should listen to that back? - Yeah.
[Beeps.]
[Elevator banging.]
Brian: First question is always, what's your name? What the [Bleep.]
is that? Go, go, go, go, go.
Hello? Anybody up there? What the hell's going on? Go.
Keep going, keep going.
Hello? - Anything? - No.
Nothing.
I can't see anyone.
What were we doing when that happened? We were about to listen to the recording to see if we got any EVPs.
Do you think we got that on the recording? No, I was literally about to hit play when this thing moved.
All right.
I'll come down.
- All right.
Should we listen to that EVP? - Absolutely.
[Beeps.]
Chris: Did you use to be a customer here or did you work here? [Static on recording.]
That was a whisper.
I hear it loud and clear and it's definitely louder than anything else I hear and it's not us.
- Jesslyn: Hey.
- Chris: Hey.
Dave was asking a few questions and we were getting female response, we don't have any reports of female ghosts.
Okay.
We had dumbwaiter movement.
It was like a jerky down, down, down.
Wow.
- There was nobody in the stairwell.
- Yeah.
We ran up and down it and I couldn't find anyone.
This happened right as we were about, - to play the recording.
- John: Uh-huh.
Which turns out there's an EVP on.
Let's hear it.
- [Beeps.]
- [Static on recording.]
John: Play that again.
[Static on recording.]
Jesslyn: Whoa.
There's something I just can't make it out.
I'm going to have to bring this to the computer clean it up and see what I get.
John: I think we really need to dig into the history, and do a few more things tomorrow during the day.
Sounds good.
Jason: Given what happened in last night's investigation, we may be dealing with a female spirit here.
So Aimee and I are gonna go to the New England Genealogical Society.
We wanna find out if maybe a female passed away in the building at some point.
Well, the area itself 290 to 296 Hanover - Was built in the 1900s.
- Uh-huh.
But one of the things we did find that actually predates this building, that happened on the property in 1879.
Was that there was a known baby farm that operated there.
What is a baby farm? A baby farm would be an establishment that takes unwanted children, illegitimate children, or it could be the children of a poor couple who could no longer take care of them and they would drop them off and pay a fee, for somebody to raise the child.
Do you know of any documented deaths that took place in the building? Well, we do know that there was a gentleman Well, a Doctor, actually By the name of Luigi Morelli who did use the building for his offices.
He actually did get accused of, improper procedures that resulted in the death of a woman.
You can see here in this photo his actual sign for his business.
Do we know exactly what happened with this woman? We don't.
Something about an illegal operation.
- My first thought would be an abortion.
- Illegal abortion.
But we don't know for sure.
John: We know that a female died tragically on this property.
Could this be the same woman who may have been reaching out to us last night? And does this baby farm somehow connect to any of this? I'm hoping we'll find answers to some of these questions tonight.
Chris and Jess will sweep the cafe.
Brian will man the monitors in the vault room.
And Jason, Aimee, and I will investigate the cigar bar.
This is the dumbwaiter that me and Brian were around and it, like, violently shook yesterday.
So this is where I wanted to place the G-force Pod on.
All right.
Can you see the G-force Pod? Brian: Sure can.
Awesome.
So if this thing moves at all, we should be able to catch it.
It's pretty bright on my screen, so, yeah.
There's not much going on in this room.
[Wheel squeaking.]
Get anything? You know, I'm actually getting nothing up here.
Did you wanna start with an EVP session? - Yeah, I think that's a good idea.
- Okay.
- [Beeps.]
- All right.
We're rolling.
John: Okay.
Can you tell us your name? We heard a female voice in here yesterday.
Was that you? Can you tell us what your name is? Was there anything bad done to you here? What the [Bleep.]
?![Bleep.]
! All right.
I don't know what just happened, but it felt, literally, like something either lashed across my back or something shocked me.
I don't see anything.
I have no idea what that is.
Command to Johnny.
Pick up.
I just monitored this crazy electrical disturbance by the dumbwaiter.
If I had to describe it, I would say lightning just struck in the stairway.
- Aimee: What? - Really? Okay, we're gonna head back there, dude.
Brian: All right.
Pretty much, you are standing in the spot where I saw What I can only describe as as a flash of electricity.
Is it down below or up? Brian: Okay.
Right now, where Jason is standing, I would guesstimate about, maybe - Yeah, I'm getting crazy spikes.
- shoulder height from him.
Holy crap.
Look at how high it's going.
- Look it.
That's crazy.
- Brian: Go more towards that upper corner.
I mean, it flashed in the middle of the room, but if I had to guess a point of origin, it would be from up there.
Jason, see if you can stand on there a little right there.
Okay.
Alright, throw me that light.
- Careful.
- Careful, Jase.
Okay.
Oh, hold on.
Hold on.
Hold this for a second.
Shine it right up here.
What in the world? [Aimee gasps.]
What the heck is that? Hold on.
Hold this for a second.
Shine it right up here.
What in the world? - Go ahead and grab it.
- John: Aimee, grab that.
Don't open it.
Just hold it.
- Chris: What the heck is that? - Let's see.
What? A little box.
- Chris: Are those needles? - John: Yes.
[Aimee gasps.]
- That looks like a syringe.
- John: Oh, yeah.
- You know what, guys? - Do you think it's possible that that was from when the physician had his office here? Dr.
Morelli.
Well, anything's possible, Aimee.
That's why it's gonna be important for me to get this dated tomorrow.
See what else I can find out about it and I also I got a hunch Let's see what else we can find out about this baby farm.
- Aimee: Really? - John: All right, guys? Chris: Sounds good.
John: We found this old syringe in the old part of the building, and we knew a Doctor performed an illegal operation in here, so this morning I'm meeting with Charles.
He's an appraiser.
He's very familiar with old items.
I wanna see if all these things are gonna actually line up.
Oh, very good.
Well, from the looks of it here, the etched measurements on there Etched into the glass what looks to me as if With the case and so forth it's probably the latter part of the 19th century.
You know, somewhere 1870 on.
- Really? - Yeah.
All right.
That's a lot older than what I was thinking.
Would this still have been used in the 1920s and '30s? Doubtful.
Instead of a silver fitting, you would've been probably using something like a nickel-plated steel.
Your theory is right about the baby farm.
There's actually an article in the Boston Globe on August 9th, of 1879 about that very same thing.
A small baby farm was found by Officer Beers from 292 Hanover Street.
Occupied by a woman only known as Miss or Mrs.
Elwood.
There seems to be found there a crib A lifeless body of an infant some three months old.
The infant no doubt starved to death.
Outside the house and there was a rickety shed, were two other older children tied into chairs with ropes.
- Really? - Yeah.
This article goes on to talk about the cruelty and the bad conditions.
This has happened before.
A lot of these baby farms, more atrocious things happened.
These babies were outrightly just killed and disposed of.
So, Charles, whom would this have been used on? It's something that would've been used, really, largely for any patient, whether it be a child or adults.
Either one.
- Interesting.
- Yeah.
John: Now that I know the syringe dates to the 1870s, is this tying in with the baby farm? I can't rule any of this out.
I can't wait to get together with David and share some of this information.
Well, Dave, we really found a lot of interesting things.
- Now you were with us on the first night.
- Yes.
Brian and Chris got an EVP in the back where the dumbwaiter is, but we cleaned it up and I'd like you to listen to it now - And see what you think.
- Yeah.
Thank you.
Voice on recording: Hush.
- Wow.
- What are you hearing? Hush.
.
That's what is leading me to the next thing I would like to actually show ya.
We had our surveillance set up where the dumbwaiter is.
I want you to watch it.
Wow.
So we headed back there and they actually discovered something I'd like to show you.
- It's a syringe.
- Yeah.
But we found out that this item basically is dating back to, like, 1870.
You're saying this is from a building before this building was built? Could very well be.
In 1879, we learned that here on the property, there was a baby farm.
If you were to not want your child for some reason, you would pay to bring your baby here.
There was a woman that ran the baby farm here.
Her name was Miss Elwood and she was found with an infant that was dead in her care - Gosh.
- When the police came in.
This is a news article that we found.
The baby farms were notorious for mistreating children.
They would use arsenic to kill the babies.
The symptoms of arsenic mimic cholera and that's how she got away with it.
- It looked like it was cholera.
- It's just awful.
We have no way to know for sure if that syringe was used.
- But I think it's a possibility.
- That's shocking.
I mean, we're never gonna be 100% sure, Dave, but do I definitely feel that we have some negative energy that's attached to the item? Yes.
Dave: I didn't even know what a baby farm was.
This was the first time I've ever heard about one.
I had no idea it would be something so horrible.
What would you like to do with this item at this point in time? You can take it.
So what I will do is remove it, put it into the museum.
Hopefully this will help some of the activity to calm down.
Well, thank you, John.
Thank you so much for helping us out here.
John: Was it Miss Elwood's spirit making itself known to David and his staff? Or the energy from the syringe itself that caused the disturbance? Whatever the source was, I'm hoping by removing this item, David and his family can now run their business in peace.
Hey, John.
My name is Julia Drahos.
I live in Wappingers Falls, New York, and I own um A Victorian that was built in 1870.
We've had all sorts of experiences here.
In this one closet, you hear a child's voice saying, help me.
And that really disturbs me.
My daughters have heard voices, like, their name being called.
They've had things move on them.
I just want them to feel, you know, comfortable in their own home, that there's nothing that's gonna hurt them.
We've always had activity in the house, but, like, lately, there's been a little bit more than usual.
I would love to see if you could pinpoint and find, something specific that might be causing activity in my home.
Okay, guys.
Here we are in Wappingers Falls, New York.
We're going to meet with Julia.
What did you guys find out? Well, I learned that Julia's home was actually built in 1870.
By descendants of the very prominent Van Wyck family.
John: Well, Julia is very concerned for the safety of her kids.
They're hearing voices, they hear a little child, and they're seeing a lot of shadow forms.
If we can find logical reasons, that's gonna make it easier for everybody.
All right.
Aimee and I are gonna go in and meet with Julia.
Jesslyn, why don't you check around and see what you can find out? [Doorbell rings.]
- Hi.
- Hi.
Julia? John Zaffis.
- Nice meeting you.
- My daughter Aimee.
Thank you for coming.
Come on in.
Julia, share with us what's happening here.
We've been in this house 10 years and we've had all kinds of experiences.
Hearing, you know, knocking and rapping, footsteps.
I've seen an apparition of a man.
As I drove in the driveway one evening, I thought I was gonna actually hit somebody, and they disappeared into the side of the house.
I have three daughters that have also experienced a lot in the house.
And they they get bothered by it a lot.
They sleep with the lights on, TV on.
I've heard, um I'm sorry.
It's okay.
Just I want them to feel comfortable here.
They don't wanna talk about it.
It's tough.
It was scary.
My hair stood up on my neck.
Nobody likes to stay up here.
Brian: It's like, whatever it is is moving around.
What the [Bleep.]
was that? [Banging.]
What the hell was that? Chris: Oh, my God.
I have three daughters that have also experienced a lot in the house.
And they they get bothered by it a lot.
They sleep with the lights on, TV on.
So, really, all three of the kids are uncomfortable.
Gotta remember, kids are very impressionable, and if they're hearing stories, they're gonna repeat things and they could scare themselves.
It's my job to get in here and try to figure out, what's happening on a logical end and what's happening on a paranormal level.
John: So what's going on in here? Well, this is my bedroom and in the middle of the night, like, around 3:00, 4:00 in the morning, I have been woken up by loud banging on my headboard.
I have also experienced things being thrown.
One morning, I got woken up and I heard something, like, flying across the room and it landed.
It was just something that I had on my nightstand.
John: I definitely see you got a lot of antiques and a lot of interesting collectables.
I always worked for historical museums and things like that, so I always love being around old things, and always collected old things since I was 18 years old.
This one is one of my favorites.
I think it's a little girl's hair that was put in there to memorialize her.
Well, it was normal in the 1800s to cut off a lock of hair from the deceased.
- To keep a memorial of them.
- Okay.
There is a belief, though, that if you own another person's, lock of hair that you actually have control over that person.
So this is my daughter's bedroom.
Nobody likes to stay up here.
My older daughter won't sleep in her room at all.
We have heard a voice from the closet in this room.
The voice said, help me.
As if she's being locked in there.
It is just kind of an eerie thing.
Julia, where did you get the rocking horse? I actually bought it from an estate sale.
Looks like it's from the 1800s.
When they made rocking horses, they actually used real animal hair on them.
Think about the amount of energy that could be held on to that.
John: Have you had any other people that have had experiences? Actually, we're not the only ones that have experienced stuff in the house.
I hear you've had some actual experiences right here in the basement.
I came down with my worker to check one of the pipes.
And when we came down to the basement We came to the first doorway and all of a sudden Something came running out of the corner behind us.
You could hear the footsteps of it running.
[Running footsteps.]
It startled us.
We both turned around and there was nobody there.
And a second later, one of the hoses went swinging on the thing like something ran into it.
My hair stood up on my neck.
You seem kind of uncomfortable right now.
It was it was scary.
I've never had nothing like that happen to me.
It was scary enough that my worker didn't want to come back to work in the house again.
So we're in the hallway next to the attic.
These plaques here.
What can you tell me about them? These were casket plates from the 1800s.
I bought them from someone from Massachusetts.
- I see one says Lucy and she died - Julia: Yeah, one says - Julia: 187 2.
- John: Two.
- Yeah, and this one's Emily - 26 years old.
Sometimes you really have to give a thought when you buy these old Victorian homes and you start filling 'em up with a lot of antiques and a lot of bizarre collectables.
Doesn't mean that all antiques are haunted, but you can bring that one in that can trigger everything.
Well, Julia, I'm gonna bring the team in here, we're gonna investigate.
Let's see what we can find out for ya.
Tonight, Jess and I are gonna sweep the upstairs.
While Chris and Brian cover the basement.
Jess, this is Julia's bedroom.
I can't see how you could live in this house and not be creeped out.
Very curious to see if you get anything on the human hair that's right over here.
That's it.
Anything? - Nothing at all.
See that? - Nothing.
We're not getting any readings whatsoever.
I don't think they had any reports of any activity in this area.
It's further back.
Now, the Handyman Jeff was down here working and, he would see shadow figures or had shadow figures, like, run by him.
- Brian: Getting any readings? - Point-4.
I keep getting these little hits, little hits.
[Beeps.]
[Beeps.]
There it is again.
Whatever it is is moving around.
- What the [Bleep.]
was that? - What? Something just, like, tugged my hair.
It was a little creepy.
- EVP session? - EVP session.
- Turn the REM on.
- [Beeping.]
[Beeps.]
Recording.
Is there something in this house you're attached to? Are you the one that's been bothering Julia's family? Do you have a message for Julia and her family? [Tape recorder beeps.]
All right, let's start with yours.
Brian: Recording.
Chris: Is there something in this house you're attached to? [Static on recording.]
- Did you hear that? - Oh, yeah.
[Sustained beep.]
What the hell's going on? Do you have a message for Julia and her family? [Tape recorder beeps.]
All right, let's start with yours.
Brian: Recording.
Chris: Is there something in this house you're attached to? [Static on recording.]
- Did you hear that? - Oh, yeah.
[Sustained beep.]
- Did you make out what it said? - Can you rewind it? Yeah.
Chris: this house you're attached to? [Static on recording.]
Sounds like it's saying, find me.
.
[Sustained beep.]
Brian: Our REM Pod was going off at the same time that we would ask these questions.
Is this a game? - I feel like we're being toyed with.
- [Beeping.]
Come on.
Don't disappear on me now.
Come on.
Don't disappear.
I feel like there's something unfinished in this room.
John: As you can see, we're up on the third floor here.
She picked up this old rocking horse and it's literally made out of, horsehair and horse skin.
I'm not getting any readings.
They claim they hear children up in this little closet here.
- Jesslyn: Nothing.
- Nope.
John: I don't know exactly what is going on in here.
I think we really need to dig in and do some research on this house.
See what we can find out.
Aimee: Jason and I are going to meet with a local historian, who's gonna give us more information on the property that Julia owns.
We heard that part of the foundation was from a former house on the property.
I'd like to know more about what took place.
As far as the house goes, is there anything that you can tell us about that? Well, we do know that there was a fire on the property.
The house burned and a new house was built.
Using the material from the old house.
I'm assuming that that's the house that's there now.
Yes, and you can see that the property owner was a Van Wyck.
Do we know if there was any injuries or deaths? - Not we don't know of any records.
- Okay.
Skinner: There wouldn't be any records of the fire.
Because at that time, there weren't any fire departments in that section.
Wow.
As far as the house goes The old house burned down and this was rebuilt with some of the foundation.
But we couldn't find any records of deaths associated with it.
I think at this point in time, we're gonna have to pay more attention to the items in there.
Than anything else because something's gotta be causing this disturbance to escalate.
We'll dig in deeper with that tonight, okay? Let's do it.
We now know that parts of Julia's house was built from an older house that burnt down.
But is this connected to the alleged activity happening here? .
And does this EVP that Chris and Brian got last night fit into this? Hopefully, we'll find out some answers tonight.
Aimee will keep an eye on the monitors on the second floor.
Brian, Chris, and I will cover the bedrooms and hallways.
And Jess and Jason will investigate the basement.
- Chris: All right.
- Brian: Okay.
While we're moving around, I'm going to be looking at things with the thermal, so - There you are.
- Got me? I got ya.
The thermal camera's a great tool to have because in dark spaces, you'll be able to see hot spots and cold spots on the screen.
Nothing going on.
It's almost like it doesn't exist.
Chris: You getting anything, Brian? Quiet.
Jason: Wow.
This is creepy.
Were these the garden hoses that he was talking about? Yeah.
They started swinging on their own.
We know that Julia's Handyman felt something run by him down in the basement.
So what I wanna do is set up REM-pods.
Because if anything crosses that, it's so sensitive, it's gonna pick it up.
[Beeps.]
Brian and Chris were down here last night.
They said that they got an EVP.
- It said, find me, right? - Mm-hmm.
Were you down here last night? Did you say, find me? [Bangs.]
What is that? Here, Jess.
Give me some light over here.
What the heck is that? Hello? There's nobody out there.
[Sustained beep.]
What in God's name is going on? - Look.
- Oh, my God.
Chris: What the heck is that? [Sustained beep.]
Shut up.
What the heck? Go, go, go, go, go.
Are you kidding? - That thing is going nuts, Jason.
- It's crazy.
I feel like something's messing with us.
It seems like something is trying to get our attention here.
[Sustained beep.]
But at this point, we're just being led around in circles.
[Bangs.]
Shh.
- Shut up.
- Where'd that come from? - What the hell was that? - What was that? [Sustained beep.]
[Bangs.]
- Shh.
- Shut up.
- What the hell was that? - What was that? Where'd that come from? Oh, my God.
Look at this.
Okay.
That ladder? Come on.
Okay.
So something Chris: Hello? We have a ladder that fell over, and this is a heavy ladder, but there's a fairly good chance that if there was a draft, it could've pushed it.
I'm not sure if that's what was going on, but it was interesting.
We were getting the REM-pod activity at the exact same time that was happening.
This is crazy.
Thermal's quiet.
So far, nothing.
Careful.
Watch your step.
Brian: What do you see, Chris? Hold on, hold on a second.
Hold on.
Chris: What? I'm actually getting a reading for the first time.
- Brian: It's cold.
- Chris: This one? Brian: No.
The other one.
- John: That one? - Yeah.
See it? Ooh.
Brian has the thermal when we go up to the third floor and right away, he notices something different.
The casket plate is a dark blue, which means it's a lot colder than the surrounding items.
Oh, look at that.
- Chris: What the hell? - John: There's water coming off of it.
Brian: Yeah, look.
There's condensation.
- Look at how that's beading.
- Chris: Really? John: I'm not seeing anything else that has any type of condensation on it at all.
It's not even around the wall.
The rest of the wall is dry.
- It is, huh? - Yeah.
It's just that.
Lucy.
I'll tell ya what, guys.
I need to get this to an expert tomorrow.
I need to find out more about this casket plate.
It really seems we had activity centering around this casket plate.
So I came to meet with Doug.
He operates a funeral parlor.
I'm kinda hoping he's gonna be able to share some information with me.
Well, this would've been a casket plate from the 19th century.
- Mm hmm.
- Looks like it's made of pewter.
There are two screw holes on either side of the plate.
So that tells me that this would've been mounted on, and would've been buried with the casket itself.
Okay.
Their original use was to help identify people.
The reason being, during the hard winters, they would not bury back in those days.
So what they would do is they would put them into a receiving vault.
And then, when spring came, they would take out the caskets, and they would figure out who is who by looking at one of these.
This one is fairly decorative for that time period.
What is the likelihood of something like that actually coming up to the top of the surface? Well, it could've faced the elements of water Ice, frost, because in those days, they would bury caskets fairly shallow.
John: Was this casket plate originally on the casket or did the family remove it? We're never gonna know the origins on how this came about.
But this is the final resting place of Lucy and now part of it is missing.
[Cell phone rings.]
Chris: Hello? .
Yeah.
.
John: What? .
Wow.
.
- Good work, kiddo.
- Aimee: See ya later.
Let's take a look at that.
What's it say? Says, Lucy Perrin, age 28, died in a fire.
Wow.
Chris: There's her picture.
You know, parts of that house are built from an old house that was in a fire.
Interesting.
I can't wait to get some of this information to Julia.
Julia, thanks for having us here.
Jason and Aimee were doing a lot of research and we had found out that parts of this home were built from an old home that burnt down.
There was quite a bit that was incorporated, from the original house and actually built over it.
Right.
Well, as the guys were investigating down in the basement, Brian and Chris got a very decent EVP down there.
Really? - And I'd like you to listen to that.
- Oh, wow.
Chris: Is there something in this house you're attached to? .
- Oh, I hear it.
- It's saying, find me.
- Can you hear it? - I can hear it.
Okay.
During the course of our second night of being in here, we were going through with the thermal camera And Brian was walking right up the staircase, and he was actually getting something that was cold on the wall, where one of those two casket plates was.
So, as we started researching, we found out Quite a bit of information about Lucy.
- She died in a fire.
- Wow.
Now we know the house has remnants from a house that burnt down.
Can it be a situation where she's reaching out, and she's trying to bring some closure? Yes, I do feel that way at this point in time.
Oh, wow.
We found out that she actually is buried in Connecticut.
If we wanna bring some peace where she can finally rest.
I would like to actually put this back on her grave, so her spirit can cross over.
And, hopefully, the girls can move back into their bedrooms, and things can calm down.
Okay.
Yeah, I'd like that.
- Okay.
- Julia: I was glad that John came out.
Hopefully putting the casket plate back to its original owner, will clear up what we've been experiencing in the house.
And it will make everybody rest a little bit easier at night.
John: Restless spirits often hold on to their last remaining connections.
I hope that by reuniting the casket plate with Lucy's remains Her restless spirit will finally move on to the next world.
