Jack and Bobby (2004) s01e02 Episode Script

Better Days

You enter the world of politics you learn pretty quick that you can't judge people the way you used to as a civilian You see someone, they seem honest, they look trustworthy well, if you continue to rely on those type of instincts in our business it's political suicide Robert McCallister had those eyes, the eyes of a child A lot of people made that mistake with him back then they thought he was innocent.
But he wasn't Okay, as you all know from your organisation chart, tomorrow at 10 o'clock we're gonna begin our button brigade Thank you so much to Stephanie's planning and to Brent's Dad's printing company, we, literally have thousands of buttons to envelop this campus with Somewhere Abbie Hoffman is weeping.
Who's Abbie Hoffman? Okay, if everyone could turn to page three of the handout you'll see some numbered areas that correspond with the button distribution locations.
Bridget, excuse me, may I? Yeah of course, of course professor Uh, the floor acknowledges that Faculty Advisor Grace McCallister would like to speak Thank you It is now mid-September The national presidential election is less than two months away, and a voter turnout, particularly amongst your generation is and has been abysmally low So, the most important thing now is what? What?! Anybody? Making sure that people are engaged and fired up to vote, right? We are trying to mobilise an entire student body here Campuses all across this country will get on board but there has to be a fire that's lit somewhere Why not here? Why not? We could send a mass email! No, not an email! I'm talking about a walk-out, a sit-in, a protest! What, um, what would we be protesting? Apathy, complacency, low voter turnout We are telling people that we want change, and we will not be silent 'til we have what? Change? Change, yes! Come on, without your rage, without your fire, what separates this from a meeting of the college Republicans? Huh? Didn't you ever read Ginsberg? Didn't you ever stay up all night just talking about ideas and arguing over how you see the world? My God, my college experience was a stoned haze of political exploration Okay.
You don't see.
But you will Bobby, would you mind just running upstairs and hanging out with your brother? Well, I don't think Jack wants me up there.
Well it's your room too, right? Yeah but you know, Courtney's up there and they're studying - Bobby? Please.
Okay.
Does anybody have a lighter? Could Chemistry be any more useless? Oh, come on, it's high school, Jack.
What were you expecting? Meaning? I don't know, just maybe something I could use once in the next fifty years Nah.
You heard Mrs Hannigan.
"Compounds can be fun!" Hey Bobby! What are you doing here? I just wanted to use my computer.
I told you, you can't, we're studying.
I can study with noise, I don't mind.
Why can't you study in the kitchen? Mom told me to come up here.
Are those students still down there? Mm-hmm.
Out, everybody out, come on.
Hey, Jack that's enough! This is an official meeting of the college Democrats! Come on.
Where they're officially smoking out? They are peacefully associating around issues of democracy.
The bill of rights says that - - Can bite me.
Everybody out of here.
Let's go.
Come on.
Get out.
Okay guys, you know what, really good work I'll see you Tuesday night at the Moonlight Address! In the meantime, tend that inner fire, okay? Grr! Oh, hey, Professor McCallister, my Dad said to say hi.
Oh, he did.
Well, that's courteous.
Sorry we couldn't finish studying.
No problem.
The most excitement I've seen in Hart so far.
Uh, Courtney, if you don't mind, I think it would be best not to - Oh, no worries.
I won't tell my Dad.
We hardly talk anyway.
'Kay, night.
Night Bobby! Goodnight! Thanks.
What? You said you wouldn't do that stuff.
Oh, come on.
It was one joint! It's the equivalent of a glass of red wine which any of them could be served in a restaurant, or hell, even a church Stop making excuses.
I don't need excuses! They're college kids for God's sakes When I was in college we were dropping acid and taking our shirts off for peace These guys, the world is blowing up around them and they're just so I don't know, mechanical and cold I was just trying to grease the wheels a little bit Weed's only a class C drug, and it - Bobby.
We'll talk about this later, alright? I told you he knows you do it Look, whether or not you wanna admit it you have a problem with that stuff I do not have a problem, I said I wouldn't do it and I won't That's what you said last time, after I got kicked off the team for my litter brother bringing YOUR pot to school I don't know what I can give you other than my word And we all know how much THAT's worth.
What would you like, Jack? A signed affidavit? It's funny to think back now back to the beginning Back when we were allies, plenty of commonalities Both husbands, fathers, brothers Both proud Missourians with a history of service And of course we were both Republicans I remember the day Bobby told Grace he was a Republican It was like coming out, you know Coming out of the closet As an axe-murderer Morning Vera.
Morning Professor.
Did you check your box? Hmm, yeah, I was just gonna do that.
I know you haven't checked it because it's sagging under the weight of all the memos I've put in it that you haven't checked Thank you Vera.
What is it? Did I say anything? No, no, you just have that whole disapproving thing going What is it, my shoes? You might have chosen a pump.
Yeah, which would have been crippling While mine serve both form and function If you want ruby slippers you can grab your broomstick and oh my God! President Benedict cancelled the Moonlight Address That's just great.
What'll he cancel next - graduation?! Does the man have no sense of ritual? I mean, how the hell are we supposed to go about the work of educating with a fear of this insidious buffoon always at our heels? Wait, wait, if he cancels the Moonlight Address, where are we gonna have - Oh, nononono, no, he's not- Except that he did.
Not yet he didn't Is he in his office this morning? I don't know, I'll call over.
No, don't bother.
I'll go talk to him myself.
I'd buy a ticket to that.
Where we're at is we're transitioning.
Ah, is there any making out involved in that? Look, you can't just go from friends to hooking up.
So what, you got a plan? And the plan is slowly crossing over.
You gotta do it right Oh, it's taken alright, and it's taking forever.
You didn't see her teaching me about compounds, it was promising.
Yeah, you'd definitely think that she was into it.
I mean, from what I could see.
Listen.
Today at lunch? You are in Siberia, make yourself scarce, got it? I need a level playing field.
You? You're wingman.
Whoa, no, can't, today's pep rally man.
They're announcing the fall teams.
Yeah.
I'm sorry.
Hey, did you hear Ryan Seiber broke his toe? No way! Yeah.
Climbing over his mother's fence.
Pathetic, the guy has no hand-eye co-ordination.
It leaves a spot on the relay.
- You think coach might- - I heard he was looking for you.
Are you aware that the Moonlight Address has been in existence nearly as long as the campus itself, and you cancelled it?! Usual salutations are just too banal for you, aren't they Grace? Like hundred year old trees, the traditions dating back to the foundering of this institution are essential, irreplaceable and at imminent risk of extinction! Okay, I'm just going to kick it off.
Good morning, Professor You're looking wonderful.
Please have a seat.
Hello President Benedict I hope this morning finds you well.
It's going very well although I wish there were three more hours in it.
And you? Oh, also quite well, thank you so much.
Perhaps you'd like some coffee.
Oh, no thanks, I'm trying to cut back.
That's a shame - Did you even bother reading the transcripts of the past Moonlight Addresses? No.
Of course not.
Precious historical artefacts, preserved through time to reveal to us the values and issues of their day The most famous one, given by President Cobb right after Freedom Summer? Had a tremendous impact on the civil rights movement as it played out on our campus President himself said that- Yeah, I get it, I get it.
I'm just not big into speeches, that's all.
Hey, did you get the 'hi' I sent you? Have you even been hearing me? Of course I've heard you.
I'm just wondering about the the 'hi', that's all.
Yes, I got your 'hi', thank you very much.
But you didn't respond, which is funny because I would have thought that you'd be kind of a stickler for etiquette.
Yeah, well, in most circumstances not involving eighth grade diplomacy, I am.
Eight grade diplomacy? Hmm, this isn't going very well, is it? Yeah? Oh! Right.
All right, well Grace, if that's all, I will take my leave.
Wait! Are you, are you gonna reinstate the Moonlight Address or not? My time is limited here Well Grace, the Moonlight Address is only inspirational as the person giving it, and I am not a great public speaker I am, however, gonna keep this college on it's feet, and that I'd think would be really inspiring to all the students who really want to graduate from here Right, and is that your full and considered answer, the one with the split infinitive and the flawed reasoning? Look, if it means that much to you, take it up with the speech committee, which I believe is next meeting tomorrow night.
At the Owl and the Pussycat.
And why's it at a restaurant? Administrative business and needn't go hand in hand, Grace Be there tomorrow night, 8 o'clock, on the dot And who exactly is on the committee? Me.
Yeah, and who else? And me.
See you tomorrow night, Grace There's nothing Grace loathed so much as a Republican She just kept saying it was so wrong At the time I thought she meant that the party itself was wrong, but looking back, I think her point was more that it was wrong for him Tater tots? I said tater tots, you want 'em? What? Yeah, yeah, sure, please.
Bobby! Oh, hey.
- What are you doing? - Nothing.
Come sit down.
What is it? Nothing.
It's just sometimes I like to eat inside in the hall.
I think it- The hall? Forget it.
Come sit with us.
Hi Jack.
I just ran into Courtney and she really wanted me to eat with you guys so I'm just gonna eat my sandwich and I'm gonna go, okay? What's all the commotion? Pep rally.
For the fall teams, and the meet.
Pep rally today, a game tonight, football party on Saturday if you're not one of the Stepford Cheerleaders, what is there to do on the weekend? There's, uh, there's a Rock and Bowl I mean, it's got bowling and music and an arcade, I mean everybody goes.
Actually it's not- Sounds cool! Pretty retro.
You wanna go? Sure, that'd be great! We could meet there at 7, or maybe it would be easier if I just picked you up.
Yeah, right, in your Mustang, I hope.
Yeah.
No, I'll just meet you guys there at 7.
You're coming, right, Bobby? And now, your fall 2004 Senators That's my cue.
I'm gonna get outta here.
Worthington, Senior.
Marcus Ride- Uh-uh.
I need the toothpaste! What's wrong with yours? You forgot to buy it.
Oh yeah Where are you going? Committee meeting.
Dressed like that? Where are you going? Bowling.
Ah.
Dressed like that? Who are you going with? Bobby.
Only Bobby? Yeah.
Something wrong with that? You know I don't have to go if you guys don't want me there.
Yes you do, Courtney asked you.
She was just being nice.
Doesn't matter.
If you don't go, she'll think I didn't let you and then I'll look like a dick, so you're going.
You gonna kiss her tonight? I don't know.
Probably.
But - you wanna kiss her, right? Does she want you to kiss her? Yes, she does! Just shut up.
I just want it to work out for you guys.
Thanks for the endorsement.
It's just I know it's all my fault about the track team, and if this is what's gonna make you not so So what? I don't know, mad all the time.
I'm not mad all the time! Annoyed? I'm not annoyed, all right! Just quit asking dumb questions.
Just because we're hanging out 24/7 does not mean you need to talk for every second of it Hey, Vera! I came in to pick up some stuff that I thought I might need for the committee meeting later Uh, what are you doing here so late? Packing.
Packing? Why? They let us go.
Go? Go where? Who let you go? Cuts.
Administrative staff from every department, only the most senior person stays.
But you are the most senior person.
Lesley Wilkinson has 37 years.
But she's senile! She doesn't do anything here anymore, and she has that office that used to be a closet Well the other thing she has is seniority.
When did you find out about this? Yesterday.
And you're packing up now? You know, I didn't wanna wait 'til Monday to get my things Can't blame Benedict, though.
He had to do what he had to do.
- It must be hard.
- What's that? Being here but not being with the team One quarter, what's it matter? I'm back in the winter.
It just seems like I mean that's your kinda thing, right? All that clubby, joiner stuff.
Come on, I'm here with you! What's better than that? Um, being here with somebody who actually knew how to roll a ball? There's nothing to it! Come on, here.
Let the master show you, ready? All right.
Bring it back, ready Hey, Jack, can I put Beanstalk in for you like when we play with Mom? No! Just put- Yeah! Bobby, put Beanstalk! All right.
Let's try it again, ready? - Okay, Beanstalk! - All right, bring it back- I can't get this thing to work right, can someone please help me? Yeah! Hey Jack! Hey Missy.
What's going on? Just playin'.
See, the team's here.
Yeah.
Just 'cause you're out for a semester doesn't mean you're banished, does it? No, I'm here with Courtney.
Oh yeah? Are you guys babysitting? Oh, Bobby's just they get along.
Who's that? Oh, that's Missy Belknap.
Jack used to go out with her and then she dumped him to go out with the quarterback Randy God, I probably shouldn't have told you that.
Bobby, c'mon.
Let's do it.
Go! Bobby announced his candidacy early It was right after that I get a call from a fairly high up member of the GOP, who mentions that if I throw my hat into the ring, the party's gonna back me all the way to the White House Seems that the powers that be were bothered by Bobby's less than conservative stance on the issues Grace.
Glad you made it.
Don't stand up.
This shouldn't take long.
Okay.
What did you mean by firing our departmental assistant? I beg your pardon? Did you seriously think this kind of thing would go unnoticed? It wasn't just your department.
Oh, that makes it better.
Grace, I was cutting the fat.
Fat?! Vera Vaughn is NOT fat, she's a 20 year plus employee She's also the sole wage earner in her household Did you bother to consult a single faculty member about this before you- As a matter of fact I did I consulted with my entire advisory committee, I just didn't consult with you Now, as you may or may not have heard, the University has been engaged in an analysis of possible cost-cutting measures which happens to have pre-dated my tenure Our financial status of course being paramount.
Well Grace, if you wanna educate people you've gotta keep the doors open.
And I'm sure Vera Vaughn's $39,000 a year will really make a difference there.
Let me ask you a question; do you have email? I think you know I do.
Do you have a departmental TA? Of course, I have several.
I have two more coming next week It's part of their graduate workload Then what was Vera doing? She was doing a lot of things! She was distributing memos, she - Which you could just as easily distribute yourself via email.
She's not just a job function.
Okay, she's - Of course not, but her job has lost its function, so I fired her Along with Walter Feltz And Jenny Arthur.
And a dozen other people who I was forced to let go But not before I gave them all a very generous severance package, did you know that? By any chance? Grace? Okay, maybe II wasn't aware of all the you know, the circumstances that led up to the Forget it.
You know, somehow I got the crazy idea that dinner with an intelligent woman would be the perfect antidote to a crappy week of firing people But, you know, I've lost my appetite So I'm just going to go.
You stay.
Have a nice dinner At least I know you'll enjoy the company.
Hey look, I'm almost caught up with you! With my left hand! That was the deal! I'm just saying! It's not exactly a fair play.
Wait, Jack, I wasn't playing with my left hand the whole entire game, does this- Hey, go get us some Cokes, would you? Subtle.
You gotta do what you gotta do.
Mmm-hmm.
Wow.
There's the sledgehammer I see why the kids like this place, it's like make-out by number Once the music starts you can count on one hand the number of kids still bowling.
We're still bowling.
What? Did I do something wrong? NoI justI mean, yeah, maybe you did.
I thought it was the right moment, is all.
We're just friends, Jack.
I thought you were waiting for me to take the next step.
I wasn't.
Come on, like you haven't been sending out signals? "We're still bowling"?! If you mean things like asking your little brother to join us on what you clearly wanted to be a date, then yes, I have been sending you signals Never mind, I'm just gonna go Courtney.
At least let me give you a ride No, it's okay.
It's close enough and I'd rather just walk.
I paid him a call to let him know that I was gonna run And also to warn him what the party was gonna do to him when the primaries began and he just couldn't hear it HeI felt this terrible sadness for him like you would for a brother Hey! Can I help you? Yeah, uh, I was just coming here to report that, uhdid you know that the bathroom on the first floor is out of towels? No, I didn't know that but I can tell the janitorsomething else? Actually, I just wanted to talk to Principal Farber.
And what is this regarding? Do I have to put that part? Is it personal? Yeahit's personal.
Okay, I'll put that.
Intellectual capital.
In the beginning of our nationhood, much of the thought was dedicated to ideals of religious freedom Then, as we moved out of the colonial period, we shifted our energy to politics and government, ideas of the state From the individual to the collective.
Now, two hundred and change years later, where do we focus our intellectual capital? Trace for me, for next week, the intellectual thought of the last century.
Where did we begin in 1900, and where will we land by the year 2000 And then, I want you to tell me where you think we'll be in the year 2100 Don't just tell me that the same writers are gonna be writing the same old thing, okay? I want you to try to imagine what the writers of YOUR generation will be writing! It could be you, right? Or you, or ywell, maybe not you Bye Don't you know there's no second dates for guys who go AWOL before cocktails? Wasn't a date, it was a dinner.
Sort of a dubious distinction, don't you think? You know Grace, I didn't want to date you, I just wanted us not to hate each other Ah.
To warm our disparate wits at the hearth of mutual understanding.
What? I believe that was President Barnes, 1922 Or or Boardman in '33, I don't know I get confused I read the speeches.
Yeah.
I got home from our near-dinner on Saturday, I read every Moonlight Address from the founding of the University through your beloved President Gilchey, who by the way can split an infinitive just as well as the next guy And you were right.
They're inspirational Yeah Look, I'm not out to destroy the place.
But they didn't hire me for my sparking oratory So I have an idea.
I want you to give the Address Me? Yeah.
I thought I'd hand it back to the faculty, someone knew each year, someone more inspiring than I am Casting a pretty wide net, aren't you? My Aunt Millie is more inspiring than you.
All right.
The hell with it Uh, okay, just out of morbid curiosity - who who was your second choice? I didn't have one.
It was you or nobody.
you wouldn't require approval of my speech? Because I can't abide censorship of any kind Grace, I'm a Republican, I'm not a Communist.
Say whatever you want.
Oh, God.
You're a Republican? What do you say? Fine, you win.
I'll give the Address.
A Republican.
Good.
If it had been a date? So what, I mean, would that have been so terrible? Speech is at midnight, soundcheck's at 11.
30 Fine.
You wanted to see me, Mr Farber? Come on in, Jack.
Have a seat Now.
I've just had a pretty disturbing conversation with your brother, in which it has become clear to me that I have been terribly and wilfully misled What your brother is suggesting is that he did not, in fact, bring marijuana to school for you, but brought it of his own volition, and then you and your mother lied to cover up his involvement Principal Farber- This whole situation - if what Bobby is telling me is true would be completely misguided, and my action now would be to increase your punishment Say, a year off the team, and assign something similar to Bobby as well What? No! Principal Farber, I can explain I've been feeling bad about being off the team, and Bobby's noticed this With the meet coming up today, I think his idea was to try and get me back on He feels like if he hadn't gotten caught then this whole thing wouldn't have happened You and I both know that I'm at fault, sir Fully at fault.
And I'll do my best to try and get Bobby to understand that I'm sorry, I thought I could help.
What the hell were you trying to do? I was just trying to get you back on the team.
I coulda spent a year off the team for that! What if I hadn't been around to come in and save your ass, then what? What if he'd just believed you? Jeez, Bobby.
You coulda had a semester of suspension in eighth grade! Do you know how screwed up your high-school life could have been after that?! You're my responsibility, dumb-ass It was all my fault though.
Yeah it was.
It was your fault.
So just live with it.
You wanna know why I hate having you around all the time? It's not even because you're like this annoying shadow following me and my friends everywhere It's because everywhere you go, everything you touch, you just make everything worse You are NOT gonna screw up the rest of my life, do you hear me? Do you?? I just thought I could help Well you can't.
So just get that through your head.
You can never help, so just stay out of everything I knew it would get bad.
I just didn't know it would get so personal A pollster on the telescreen asks - hypothetically, of course what if you were to find out that Governor McCallister had an illegitimate child? Or that someone in his family had a drug problem? It was the kind of dirty trick they'd played for decades But it wasn't Democrats making those calls, it was Republicans His own party.
I watched the devour him whole Oh, God, Bobby! I thought you were at the, um, track meet with Jack.
No.
What, you just didn't feel like it, or Jack didn't want me to go.
Ahh, pulled that big brother routine, huh? Oh well! S'okay, you can hang out here with me, come on! Remember this song? We used to listen to it all the time when you guys were kids You remember that, um that tiny little kitchen with the yellow tiles? And we would make cookies out of a bag, it was from this mix, and you would stir, and Jack would - of course - eat We should do that again soon, huh? Don't you think? What do you say? Hey.
What is it? Honey what's wrong? You're doing it again.
Okay Bobby look, can we talk about this later, okay? Just, um, tell me what happened with Jack.
He hates me now and it's all your fault.
What? He hates me now and it's all your fault.
Bobby, come on! I just would really like to hear about what happened, okay? I don't wanna talk to you when you're like this, Mom.
Why? I'm fine, see! I'm still me! Look! You know what? I wish you were someone else Bobby, WAIT.
He hung on 'til the California primary And when they called it for Dennis, I watched Bobby's face He looked like a child again.
So sad.
I know he felt like it was the end of everything.
And for a while, it was.
Hi? Hi.
Are you here for Chloe? No, Courtney.
Oh.
You're not a date, are you? No.
Good.
Courtney! Your friend is here.
Oh, I'm Bobby McCallister.
Well, come on in.
I thought for sure he'd be at Warren's Where else haven't we tried? The uh, the observatory? President Benedict's house.
Why would he be there? He likes talking to Courtney.
Him too? That's great Okay, just stop avoiding the inevitable, go ahead and yell at me I can't.
You can't? I broke my promise to you and your brother I totally failed to perceive how upset he was, and then when he ran out the door I was too stoned to drive a car to follow him.
Yeah, that sucks.
Yeahthat's it? It's not all your fault.
I shouldn't have laid into him like I did He was driving me insane, I just snapped, and I know, it feels terrible.
It's impossible to yell at him and feel okay about it He's so irritating, but he is so So good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I know.
It's hard to raise someone who's a better person than you are Thank your lucky stars you only had to learn that lesson once.
I've had to learn it twice.
We met in the middle of the night Some strange hotel off the highway And I offered Bobby the VP spot on the ticket My advisors told me it was regional suicide And he said; "I'll get back to you.
" Balls! I'll get back to you! I didn't push it It was the worst decision I ever made.
And the last one that ever mattered.
I think that you should go out with Jack.
Really.
Yeah, because, he really likes you and he's pretty cool.
Really cool.
I mean, he's great at track and everybody really likes him, and girls really like him too.
But, Bobby, it's not just about cool.
Jack's just not like cool like popular, he's cool like, he does things that other people don't wanna do like he takes out the garbage and he wears the bad Halloween costume and he goes into the bathroom last And he'd never ask you if he could do the other thing If you ask him why it's just because that's the way that he thinks that he should do it.
Yeah, you're right.
Jack is really cool.
I just don't think it's that simple.
Why? Don't you like him? Yeah.
I like him.
I just don't wanna date him But I don't I don't wanna date anybody.
My mom died last year and ever since then, it's like none of the things that I used to like really seem the same And nothing really seems all that great any more.
My Dad left.
Yeah I knew that.
Do you miss your Mom? Yeah.
Every day.
I miss my Dad, too.
Which is weird because I never met him So you must really miss your Mom.
Sinceyou knew her, I mean.
Bobby? Your family's here.
Nice going, doof.
She gonna kill me? Not unless she hugs you to death.
You know you scared her out of her wits? Are you gonna kill me? Not tonight.
Maybe tomorrow.
Go wait in the car.
He didn't say anything, that- That's okay.
That's between you guys The other night.
I'm sorry that was lame You were right, I No! I'm sorry.
I'd like to be there, you know? But I'm just not yet And it's not because of you, it's because of everything else Maybe if you give me a little time I mean I'm not saying that you should wait for me or anything It's cool.
Don't worry, I'll be around.
Goodnight.
Goodnight.
It had been a while since Bobby had suffered a loss like that Come on, Bobby, get in the car.
But if you thought it would weaken his resolve? Then you didn't know my husband For a day or two he was defeated Then the letters started pouring in, and the emails, from people all over the country They weren't sad; they were angry They saw themselves in Bobby, and in his loss That's how the movement began.
That's the irony The Republican party tried to stamp him out, and in so doing, they created him Good evening.
I'd like to welcome all of you tonight to a renaissance For some of you, tonight marks a return to your college life For some, a new beginning And so on the eve of the tremendous journey upon which you are all embarking, I would like to offer you a thought to take with you Okay, listen carefully.
You will fail here.
All of you.
College is not the culmination of your high-school career; it is the beginning of your adult life Only it's a slow, sweet beginning that feels nothing like what life in all it's attending obligations will eventually bring, so fail here Be bad at things.
Be embarrassed, be afraid.
Be vulnerable.
Go out on a limb, or two, or twelve, and you'll fall, and it'll hurt but the harder you fall, the further you'll rise The louder you fail the clearer your future becomes Failure is a gift, welcome it! There are people who spend their whole lives wondering how they became the people they became How certain chances passed them by Why they didn't take the road less travelled Those people are not you.
You have the front-row seats to your own transformation! And in transforming yourself you might even transform the world! And it'll be electric, I promise you it'll be terrifying, but embrace that Embrace the new person you're becoming This is your moment.
I promise you it is now.
Now! Not, not two minutes from now, not tomorrow, but REALLY NOW Own that, know that, deep in your bones, and go to sleep every night knowing that, and wake up every single morning remembering it And then keep going.
Keep going We're campaigning in Texas, I'm half dressed, and I get a call from my media guy who's so ballistic I can't decipher what he's saying Except that he tells me to turn on the TV news so I do.
And there's McCallister.
Re-announcing his candidacy only this time, as an Independent I guess this was his way of turning me down And McCallister is on fire.
