Jane the Virgin (2014) s04e17 Episode Script

Chapter Eighty-One

1 LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Ah, friends, our Jane has been through quite a telenovela But at long last, she fell in love with her baby-by-accidental- insemination daddy, Rafael.
Even more romantic You are on a roll with your writing.
Let's bet on your dream now.
Mine will come.
Unfortunately, things weren't as great with her mother, Xiomara.
See, she had cancer, but Rogelio was there for her.
And speaking of power couples, we have Petra and Jane Ramos, aka J.
R.
You'll recall they met because well, this happened.
So Petra needed a good lawyer.
Unfortunately, J.
R.
was working against her until she was convinced of Petra's innocence, and then she came clean.
And Petra? Well, she came, too Multiple times.
But then her crazy mother came back to town.
Petra killed Anezka in cold blood.
So J.
R.
sacrificed her career.
I came clean to the D.
A.
, and your case was dismissed, with prejudice.
I know.
Dramatic, right? Well, imagine this.
Abuela passed her United States citizenship test! And speaking of a new American phenomenon, River Fields agreed to star with Rogelio in a remake of The Passions of Santos.
Unfortunately, they had some creative differences.
The amnesia.
That is a key plot twist.
But Xo convinced River to do the show Rogelio's way, like a real telenovela.
Oh, the scary music means they're getting ready for the classic Friday night cliffhanger.
What I know is going to change your life forever.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Which this is, after all.
A small surprise.
Today our story begins with Alba a mere 23 and a half years old.
What are we doing here? It's an American tradition for their Independence Day.
Just wait It should be noted that at 23 years old, Alba's passions included (FIREWORKS EXPLODE) and fireworks.
And in that moment, Alba made a decision.
You're right.
We should let our visas expire and stay.
We'll figure out how to become citizens.
(LAUGHS) - Really? - Really.
Cool.
(FIREWORKS EXPLODING) (WHISPERING IN SPANISH) And thus began a tradition for the Villanueva family.
It's the Fourth of July.
Why are they eating hot dogs? (LAUGHS) (FIREWORKS EXPLODING) (SCREAMS) Turn them off! Right this minute! LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Yeah.
So ever since then, Jane preferred to be on the planning end of surprises.
You don't think she knows, do you? No.
As an actor, I can tell when someone's acting, and I can assure you your abuela has not a clue.
I can't believe she's gonna be a citizen.
My whole life I had this fear in the back of my head.
I know.
Me, too.
I can't wait to see the look on her face when she walks in after the ceremony and sees everyone she loves waiting to celebrate her.
(SQUEALS) (EXPLOSION) Okay, our numbers.
So far, we have 40 RSVPs.
Does that include me? Make that 41, Jane, since, you know, River is part of the family this week.
NARRATOR: Ah, yes.
Rogelio and River were about to shoot their pilot together.
So River wanted them to spend time together, so they would seem like a believable married couple - on-screen.
- Thank you all so much for putting up with having a really famous person in your home.
Daniel Day-Lewis and I lived together before shooting our film.
But with everything that Xo is going through, I didn't want to intrude.
- And yet - XO: We're happy you're here.
So did you decide no on Jorge? Yeah.
I-I didn't invite him.
But I got to say, I'm still torn.
He and Abuela are friends again.
Yeah, but she tried to get back together with him, and he turned her down No negativity on her day.
A hundred percent agree.
Lose Jorge.
No, Abla.
I wasn't talking; you were.
No, Abla is coming.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Oh.
She means Alba.
- Alba-a-a - ALBA: Mm.
Abuela, we were just saying, since your citizenship swearing-in ceremony's at 2:00, I made us reservations for dinner at 6:00, so we can go home first, relax What's that? Oh, it's just it's just a list of things I need to bring to Rafael's open house.
I'm going to have him set up things at the new property.
I got my Kate Middleton wave ready.
RIVER: You're too loose.
Kate's wave is more like this.
Like your fingers are sewn together, but gently.
Oh, okay.
Thanks.
Thanks.
(CLEARS THROAT) Bye.
(FORCED CHUCKLE) BAROQUE MUSIC (CHUCKLES): I'll just be on my way.
How's that? RAFAEL: It's perfect.
But the open house is this way.
(CHUCKLING): That's the building.
So, what do you think? The neighborhood is great.
The building has tons of curb appeal.
Look at you with the lingo.
Hey, if I'm gonna help out, I got to be on point, right? (CHUCKLES) Thanks again.
I know it's supposed to be a writing day.
No, no.
This is a good distraction.
I needed some distance from that outline.
Something's not right, but I can't put my finger on it.
(RINGTONE PLAYS) LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: You can't ignore Rose forever, Rafael.
Is that her again? She wants to know where Luisa is.
Which I am not going to tell her.
So we have nothing to talk about.
Come on, let's go inside.
Oh, wow.
I love it so much.
The light, the layout.
Great price point for the school district.
When will your clients be here? They're here.
We're the client.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Surprise! We lost the other place.
But this one comes on the market next week, and it's in Mateo's school district, and it's a great price point, like you said (CHUCKLING) (GASPS, LAUGHS) ABUELA: So, what's the big announcement? JANE: Rafael found the most amazing apartment, and we signed our lease we're moving in together next week! That's great, guys.
Congratulations.
Something wrong? No.
It's just you told us you were moving in together months ago.
The way you two said you had a big announcement today I just thought you'd gotten engaged.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Way to rain on their parade, Abla.
Well, we aren't getting married.
But still, you're happy for us, right? Of course I am.
You've made your peace with God.
JANE: Okay.
- I have to get ready for work.
- Yeah.
(DOOR CLOSES) I really wish you hadn't said that.
What's the big deal? The big deal is I was actually planning on proposing.
You were? - I get to plan a wedding?! - Shh Yes.
But I was hoping to get your blessing first.
All of yours.
I want to do it right this time.
Of course you have my blessing.
ROGELIO: Mine, too.
I've gotten over my ambivalence for you.
I meant, these past months, Jane has really seemed happy again.
What more could a father want? Alba, I know we've had a rocky minute Propose.
Nothing would make me happier my son.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Oh, my God, a proposal! I'm so excited! I hope Jane's ready for this.
Okay.
Well, maybe I'll just give her a minute to get ready for this.
(JANE STILL TAPPING) NARRATOR: OMG.
Is he gonna propose right now? Turn around.
Turn around! Hey, you.
Here we go.
How's writing going? - Oh.
- Ugh.
There's officially something wrong with my outline I'm hoping I can figure it out tonight.
Tonight? But I'm making you dinner tonight.
- Remember? - Oh, no.
I forgot to tell you the sitter canceled.
Rain check? No rain checks.
This could be the proposal.
Sure.
Or, uh, maybe Alba could pinch-hit.
It's bingo night.
Bright side, I can use the time to do as much writing as I can before Abuela's ceremony (WHISPERS): and, uh, the party.
Right.
No problem.
I will let you get back to it, then.
That's it? He's giving up? Raf? Thank you.
I know it's not dinner for two, but the way you support my writing is really romantic.
Also feeling romantic Yes, friends, love is in the air.
Or is it the draft from the window? I told you, babe, it's not safe to leave the windows open.
The kids.
Then why don't you get screens - or bars or something? - Because they're ugly.
You're the only person who actually likes the humidity.
(SIGHS) I should get up, anyway.
I have a busy day.
It's fine, Petra.
You're allowed to talk about work.
I have a lead on a paralegal situation.
Really? You're gonna go from being a lawyer to being a paralegal? What are my options? I'm disbarred and I have to pay the bills.
Well, do you want to move in here? Uh, I just I mean, as a reprieve, until you figure work out.
- No.
- Oh.
Okay.
I just want to help.
It seemed like a like a p-practical solution.
That's why I don't want to do it.
(SIGHS): Look I didn't expect to feel like this about you.
But here we are.
And I'm in love with you.
You are? I knew it wasn't a draft from the window.
Yes.
So I don't want to do anything out of convenience or obligation or guilt.
I only want to move in if we're both on the same page emotionally.
And if you're not there yet, I'm willing to wait.
(PHONE CHIMES) - Oh, my God.
- What? My friend from the DA's office just texted.
Krishna just turned herself in.
JANE: The plot twist isn't landing because it wasn't set up properly.
I tried to layer in exposition - Hold on.
- I Petra just texted me.
Krishna turned herself in.
You're kidding.
Out of the blue? Who is Krishna? You remember, Abuela, she was Petra's assistant.
The one who tried to frame Petra for murder and then disappeared out the window.
Yeah, it's pretty surprising.
You were saying? Just that the exposition helped, but it didn't solve the problem.
I think I have to go further back.
Maybe even to the beginning.
- Jane, wait.
- Hm? It turns out I can babysit tonight.
You and Rafael can have your dinner after all.
What happened to bingo? NARRATOR: Raf told her he's gonna propose! Sybil has the flu, and it's her week to host.
Oh, that's too bad, I'm sorry.
But I'm writing.
You should go.
Take a break.
You've been staring at those cards all day.
And I'm happy to watch Mateo.
I want to stay in anyway before tomorrow.
The ceremony, the party Jorge is throwing Um W-W-What party Jorge is throwing? Party may be too strong a word.
A toast, after the ceremony with a few coworkers.
Oh, wow.
So sweet, right? Incredibly, incredibly sweet.
You got to cancel that party.
It's more of a toast.
Right.
Um, here's the thing, we're planning a surprise party for her right after the ceremony.
Oh, I'm sorry, I had no idea.
NARRATOR: Awkward.
I know, a-and that's my fault.
We didn't invite you because we weren't sure where you two stood.
After the proposal, and her turning you down twice and you rejecting her - Thanks for the recap.
- NARRATOR: Right? Everybody thinks they can do your job for you.
Sorry.
I'll cancel the toast, say I got the flu.
That always works.
Sybil has the flu You should go.
- Jane? - Yes.
S-Sorry.
Anyway Will you come to my abuela's party? I know that she would love to have you there.
Absolutely.
Can I bring some refreshments? Water, with lemon.
FYI, I prefer lime and sparkling.
As my on-screen husband, you really should know that about me.
NARRATOR: Poor Rogelio.
He's drowning in this River.
Hey, hey.
I have dress options.
- What do you think? - The gold.
You will take Rafael's breath away tonight.
Rafael's? No, these dresses are for my mom.
For my Mom's citizenship party, River.
I'm not up for shopping.
(LAUGHING): Right, of course.
For the party for “Abla” What else could they be for? NARRATOR: River so needs to stop “habla-ing.
” Okay, what's going on? First Abuela comes in hard with the offer to babysit, now you're telling me to dress up for my dinner tonight Oh, my God.
Is Rafael proposing? Is that what this is about? - Nah, no way.
- No.
- Definitely not.
Phew.
I am so not ready for that.
Really? You're not? Ah-ha! He is proposing, isn't he? Yes.
ROGELIO: We were really trying to keep it a surprise.
I'm so sorry.
- You should be - It's fine.
It's totally fine.
I don't like surprises, remember? This is good.
I can get a manicure, be Instagram ready.
Wait, does that mean you're saying yes? I love him so much.
Yeah, he is my future.
Who else could it be? Oh, congratulations.
(SQUEALS) I saw a picture of that hottie.
Well done.
- Wow.
Busy.
- Cruise ship.
We'll help check people in.
Could you move over a little and get the step stool, Sharon? Anna's in a mood, and Ellie's upset 'cause she wanted tuna tartare not tuna fish, which I didn't have at my apartment, obviously.
Petra, you there? Hm? Yeah.
- What's going on? - Nothing.
JR told me she loves me.
- Whoa.
- I know.
Well, do you love her? I think I do.
Okay, so what's the problem? I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop because it always does.
My advice? Let yourself be happy.
You deserve it.
Thank you.
We've come a long way, huh? Yeah, we have.
MAN: Go see Sin Rostro now.
(HEARTBEATS) ROSE: You're a hard one to get ahold of.
What do you want? I have information for you.
In exchange, I'd love to know where Luisa is.
I'm not telling you.
And whoever my parents are, I don't care.
I think you'll change your mind when you hear what I have to say.
JANE: Oh, no.
Abuela, I'm sorry that Jorge cancelled your party.
Toast, right.
He's sick? Aw, wow, what a bummer.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Nice acting, Jane.
Rogelio would be proud.
Listen, I just got to Rafael's.
Yeah, I'll call you after.
Love you, too.
NARRATOR: All right, now let's get engaged.
Did I get the time wrong? (GROANS) No.
Sorry, I just lost track NARRATOR: That can't be good.
Is everything okay? You know what, this isn't a good time.
You should go.
Rafael, why? What's going on? - Please, Jane - Whatever it is, - you can tell me.
- Stop! I need you to leave.
Please, go.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: So, friends, with a broken heart, Jane went to do something she's done a hundred times before Which is exactly why she didn't want to do it again.
Open the door.
What are you doing? I'm not leaving.
I'm not in a good place, Jane.
Obviously, and you don't have to talk to me, but I'm staying because we're in a relationship, and people in relationships don't leave.
PETRA: I want you here.
Not because I feel guilty or obligated, but because I love you, too.
Which is scary because it's so fast, but here's the thing, I've never felt about anyone the way I feel when I'm with you, and I think I just quoted Dirty Dancing, but that's the kind of cheesy thing you make me do.
I happen to love Dirty Dancing.
And okay, I'm moving in.
Good.
Now, let's talk about the elephant in the room.
I really don't want to go to Jane's party tomorrow.
- (LAUGHS) - Can I just stay with the twins? Of course.
And now LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Oh.
Looks like Petra's got “Hungry Eyes.
” let's go to bed.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Aw.
Nobody puts Jane in the corner.
I'll stop.
You can tell me anything.
I want you to know that.
(SIGHS) I went to see Rose.
What? So she would leave me alone.
Did she say something about your parents? Whoever they are, you can tell me.
Hey.
How did you sleep? Okay.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Oh, maybe he's finally ready to talk.
So should we go over the plan for after your grandmother's ceremony? I say something came up with Petra, right? That I got to pick up the girls? Right.
Then you take the car.
My mom already said she has a doctor's appointment.
Which means Abuela, Mateo, and I will have to take the bus, giving you 30 extra minutes to set up.
Great, and River's there now with the caterers.
(LOUD GROAN) Stop.
She's helping.
She's also getting the cake.
Is she getting me the last week of my life back? Come on, Rogelio, don't be so hard on her.
I've gotten to know River a little, and I think she's just lonely.
She's been divorced four times, she's in a new city.
I think she probably just likes spending time with our family.
JANE: Shh, the ceremony is starting.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Well, it is a pretty great family.
(EXHALES) ALL: I will support and defend the Constitution, and laws of the United States of America.
That I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same.
We'll figure out how to become citizens.
(LAUGHS) - Really? - Really.
I want to raise our child here.
You're pregnant? Surprise (WHOOPS) OFFICIANT: Congratulations.
You are now officially Americans.
(CHEERING, APPLAUSE) Yeah, Abuela! LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Friends, meet one of my favorite United States citizens.
ROGELIO: “Congratulations, Abla”? Yeah, I thought it would be nice to personalize it.
It would be nice, if that was her name.
No.
But her name is “Alba.
” Al- ba.
Why is that so hard for you to remember? Alba! (EXHALES) Ooh.
Honestly, I don't know how you put up with him.
Excuse me? Your husband just went from zero to a hundred over a cake.
Okay, I don't get you.
You say you want to get to know Rogelio better for the role, but if you think that was about a cake, you don't know him at all.
Rogelio went to 100 because he wants his mother-in-law's party to be perfect, because he knows how much today means to her.
That's the kind of guy he is.
The guy who would give anything, or do anything, for his family.
And if you haven't observed that yet, you've failed at your mission.
JANE: Here we go.
Shouldn't be too long a wait for our transfer.
I don't know how I ended up on the bus on the same day I became a U.
S.
citizen.
Stop complaining, Abuela.
America doesn't have princesses.
(SIGHS) You know what? The number six goes straight to Jorge's house.
I'm going to hop on it and check on him since he's sick.
- What? - Mm-hmm.
You take Mateo to the house and I'll Lyft back.
Aw, that is so sweet of you, Abuela, but I'm sure Jorge's feeling better.
How would you know that? He-he just, he seems like a hearty guy.
So, let's go, come on.
I really want to check on him.
He'd have to be really sick to cancel on me.
I should be there for my friend.
You can be there for him later.
Let's get on the bus.
After I stop at Jorge's-- Abuela, please get on the bus.
I promise I'll explain later.
I'm not getting on the bus unless you explain now.
We are throwing you a surprise party.
Okay, and Jorge is not sick, he's probably at the house, waiting for you.
A surprise party? Yes, a surprise party.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Well, more like a party party now.
Let's go! What are we waiting for? I don't want to get there late.
(BOTH SHOUT) - What? Mateo! - Mateo! Well, at least Mateo's not gonna be late for Alba's party.
Stop! Stop the bus! Mateo, I'm coming! Please! No, wait! (SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY) Oh Oh, thank God.
Thank God.
JANE: I can't believe it happened.
It's my fault.
RAFAEL (OVER PHONE): Everyone is okay.
It's over.
Are you okay? Sorry, yeah.
It just brought me right back to when he was born, when Rose kidnapped him, when he just was gone.
(CRYING) Anyway, it's This wasn't that.
He's fine, everyone's fine.
I'll see you soon.
Right.
I'm actually gonna be a little late to the party.
Why? I just have something to do.
I'll see you later.
Everything okay? We are definitely not in proposal territory.
I don't understand what happened.
Rose had told him something about his birth parents, and he went to a dark place, and And that woman is just so evil, Abuela.
I can't believe she's back in our lives.
Maybe, mi amor, that's why Rafael didn't want to talk about what she said.
Look at what happens.
Still.
He has to talk to me.
He will.
Just give him time.
What can be so horrible about his parents that he can't tell me? Well, if this were a telenovela, Rafael would have learned that Rogelio is his father.
And he's your long-lost brother.
Abuela! Ew! (LAUGHS) That is so gross, why would you even say that? Can you stop laughing? St (BOTH LAUGH) - Okay, this is our stop.
- Ah.
Better get your game face on.
ALL: Surprise! (SHOUTS) (APPLAUSE) Ah! (LAUGHS) I would have never suspected this in a million years! NARRATOR: Wow, now I know who the real actor in this family is.
I just can't believe it Oh (APPLAUSE) Thank you! Yeah, Alba's totally faking it.
She 100% knew.
(LAUGHS) Should we tell Mommy what we've been up to? A fashion show! A fashion show! (LAUGHS) Aw, I wish I was there.
Me, too.
- Come home soon.
- Mm-hmm.
(HIGH HEEL SNAPS) Oops.
Looks like there might have been a wardrobe malfunction.
Enjoy the rest of your party.
RIVER: This is a great party.
Everything looks perfect.
What? I'm just surprised.
You're actually being nice.
Okay, maybe I deserve that.
(CLEARS THROAT) Look, I don't have a super tight-knit family like this, so I didn't realize how important today was to you.
Well, my family means everything to me.
There's nothing I wouldn't do for them.
Yes, I can see that.
And I really like that about you.
And I know what kind of co-president you're going to make: kind, considerate and loyal to your country at all costs.
Thank you, Madam President.
(DOOR CLOSES) Did you get everything done that you needed to get done? Yes.
(GLASS CLINKING) Wha Thank you, everyone, for coming.
In English, in honor of today, I am overwhelmed by the love and support in this room.
(CHEERING, APPLAUSE) (WHOOPS) As I studied for my citizenship exam, I learned about the motto of the United States: E pluribus unum.
“Out of many, one.
” It is said that it originated by the famous Roman writer Cicero, about family and friends: “When each person loves the other as much as herself, it makes one out of many.
” And as I look around this room, I understand what he meant.
“Out of many, one.
” You are all part of my journey.
I spent so many years worrying about being separated from all of you.
And I am so grateful that I will never have to worry about that again.
Cheers! (APPLAUSE) (EXHALES) What is it? What's wrong? Jorge.
- This party is about you, Alba - Please.
After all we've been through.
Just tell what's wrong.
NARRATOR: Oh, my goodness, friends, please tell me Jorge isn't Alba's long lost brother.
My mother is dying.
Or that.
I want to go to Mexico to see her and say goodbye, but being undocumented, if I go I may not be able to come back But if you don't go, you may never see your mother again.
Exactly.
Is everything okay, Abuela? I proposed to Jorge.
And we'd like you to marry us.
Tonight.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Surprise! - You're marrying Jorge? - Yes, yes, Ma.
Everyone calm down.
It's a business arrangement.
Jorge wants to visit his sick mother, and he can't because of his status.
And I know what it's like not to get to say goodbye to a parent.
So, we'll get married, he can travel, and that's that.
I think that's a beautiful thing.
But I also think you still love him, so I just want to make sure that you are okay doing this.
I am.
Because I love him so much.
Even if it's only like a friend.
Then it's settled.
Let's have a wedding.
Oh Stop! None of that.
No crying or sentimentality.
This is not romantic, it's a platonic arrangement.
Like in Love for Contract where Mariana marries Willy de la Fuente to get her dad out of jail.
Thank you, now I got the tone.
So, tell Rogelio to make it look nice.
We'll need convincing wedding pictures.
And you, figure out what you need to say to marry us.
And don't mention God.
Got it.
I'll dig up the ceremony template, we'll leave the big guy out of it.
NARRATOR: Don't worry.
You'll figure it out, girl.
Geez, this is like a walk through Jane's manuscript graveyard.
Hmm.
Yeah.
JANE: We are gathered here today to celebrate one of life's greatest moments, the joining of two hearts, Alba Gloriana Villanueva and Jorge Antonio Garcia, and to add our best wishes to the words which shall unite this couple in marriage.
Do you, Jorge, take Alba to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live? I do.
Do you, Alba, take Jorge to be your lawfully wedded husband (CRYING): to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, for as long as you both shall live? I do.
Stop crying.
It's not about you, it's about me.
(JANE CLEARS THROAT) By the limited power vested in me By the Internet, not by God I now pronounce you husband and wife.
You may kiss the bride.
For the pictures? LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Well thank God Alba can't see me.
(CRYING): I'm a mess.
(OTHERS WHOOPING) (LAUGHING) JANE: Yeah! (WHOOPING) Can we talk outside? JANE: I just need you to know, whatever Rose said, it doesn't matter.
I love you unconditionally, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, no matter who your parents are.
- U-Unless you're my brother.
- What? That would be, like, a telenovela thing.
I am definitely not your brother.
Okay, good.
So whatever it is, we'll deal with it, together.
Because I love you.
And you're it for me, forever.
Mmm (FIREWORKS EXPLODE) Hmm? (LAUGHS) My dad arranged fireworks.
I have to do something.
Meet me at my place after the party, okay? Mm-hmm.
(FIREWORKS EXPLODE) (FIREWORKS EXPLODING, PEOPLE GASPING) (FIREWORKS CONTINUE) (OOH'ING AND AH'ING) ALBA: “When each person loves the other “as much as herself, “it makes one out of many.
” You are all part of my journey.
LATIN LOVER NARRATOR: Oh, wow.
That's the look of a Jane lightbulb moment, if I ever saw one.
Her mother-daughter novel.
Pink means pregnant.
But I've never had sex! Where did you get your degree from, the University of Dumb-Ass? My daughter said that she is a freakin' virgin, so do another damn test! (GROANING, SNIFFLING) Look, five more minutes of pain for a lifetime of happiness.
Ah, her unfinished work about her grandmother.
She is not fit for the sacrament of marriage.
Excuse me? Alba is not a virgin! And I made this.
(CRYING) Mami (LAUGHS) And, of course, her love story.
And, friends, what could Jane do at that moment but write? (TAPPING KEYBOARD) And make one out of many.
Honey.
Is everything okay? Yes.
Yes, everything is great.
I just had an epiphany about my new book.
I want to combine it with ideas from my others, and turn it into this big multigenerational story with romance and drama and heartache and crime, even.
All of the lightness and all of the darkness.
(GASPS SOFTLY) Oh.
Hi.
Thought you'd be asleep.
No, I'm not asleep.
And I know you murdered your sister.
What are you talking about? Anna broke your heel when we were playing dress-up.
These are the shoes you wore the night of Anezka's death, and this heel has clearly been repaired before.
What? No, it hasn't.
Don't lie to me.
(PHONE BUZZING) Uh Okay, fine, maybe I repaired it, I can't remember.
Stop lying! Your heel broke, and you fixed it to hide the idence.
Which means Magda was telling the truth.
She was in the room, and it happened the way she said it did.
Admit it.
- I - Admit it! I was only trying to protect my girls.
And so the other shoe drops after all.
Luisa seemed very very angry with her brother.
(SCOFFS SOFTLY) We're done here! Not so fast, beautiful sister.
I think it's time you give me your shares of the hotel.
Go go hell.
Well, then I might have to make a little visit to Ellie and Anna.
I do know where they sleep, after all.
(YELLING) (SCREAMS) (GASPS) (BODY THUDS) It all happened so fast It was instinct.
J.
R.
Jane, please It's-it's brilliant, actually.
I got your case dismissed with prejudice.
You're guilty, and you can't be tried again.
I knew you were a master manipulator.
No, that's not true! It just happened like that! I didn't know you were going to turn yourself in.
You expect me to believe anything you say?! - Please - I gave up everything for you My career, my reputation Because I believed you when you said you were innocent.
It was all a lie! I am sorry.
I am so sorry.
We're done, Petra.
I never want to see you again.
(SOBBING GASP) JANE: Well, that was intense.
How are you feeling, Abuela? Hmm? You're a married woman again.
Mm.
What is it, Mom? I guess, on some level, I do hope that Jorge will grow to love me.
This is gonna be hard, huh? Maybe.
But who knows things have a way of coming around in this family.
Look at you and Rafael, you had a baby first, and five years later, you're Good.
Things are good.
And he asked me to, uh, meet him tonight at his place in a very elusive way.
Proposal elusive? JANE: Let's just put it this way.
If he doesn't do it tonight, I will.
Okay, what are you still doing here? We'll clean.
Go, get engaged! I'm going, I'm going, I'm going.
Good-bye.
Hello? Oh, thank God you picked up.
It's Krishna.
I've been calling Petra.
NARRATOR: Ah, yes.
Krishna.
Our surprising plot twist.
She hasn't picked up, and I think she's in danger.
(SIGHS SOFTLY) RAMOS: What are you talking about? KRISHNA: I'm not the blackmailer.
The real blackmailer threatened my family to get me to say I did it, and now I think they want to kill Mrs.
Solano.
NARRATOR: Pull yourself together, Petra! You're not alone! How do you know that? The blackmailer had someone call me, asking for security codes and alternate points of entry into the hotel.
Did you tell the police? I couldn't I was arrested.
It just happened so fast.
And I hate Mrs.
Solano, but I don't want her dead.
(DOOR CREAKING) Oh, my God.
Come on, move! Yes, move, Petra! Run for it! It's you.
(GASPS) No! (GASPS) (GUNSHOT) (THUDDING) (TREMBLING EXHALE) Wait.

R.

(RELIEVED SIGH) Whew.
(TAKES DEEP, SHUDDERING BREATH) Yes, friends catch your breath.
(TREMBLING BREATH) Prepare yourself.
Jane certainly felt prepared.

I'm sorry, Jane.
I lied before.
Rose didn't tell me about my parents.
