Light as a Feather (2018) s02e09 Episode Script

...Fresh As a Daisy

1 VIOLET: Previously on Light as a Feather I didn't think I'd see you again until the trial.
I've made a mistake.
[GROANS.]
You've got it, don't you? The chrysalis doesn't just affect your body.
It screws with your head.
We can beat this.
I can help.
Maybe it's best if we just take a break for now.
Yeah, maybe it is.
- Hey, I'm Peri.
- Hi, I'm Alex.
- [CHUCKLES.]
- Yeah.
MCKENNA: The pain, the nightmares, these blackouts.
I keep waking up in these strange places, having no idea how I got there.
SAMMI: Maybe we could go back to the way things used to be.
Cross my heat and hope to die.
MCKENNA: What happened to your parents? VIOLET: My parents are dead.
You know that.
I'm more concerned about what comes next.
NADIA: The way that guy died, it was, like, exactly the way you predicted it.
What? When you played that game with us.
Please tell me you didn't play a game with them.
Yeah, with McKenna and a couple of other people.
ALEX: Nadia, oh, my God! VIOLET: Whatever is in there, it doesn't affect us! Please! It's in the past! MCKENNA: I played the game with them and two people are dead, and Sammi is in danger.
Whoa, what happened to you? Jennie Brady possessed McKenna, knocked me out, and locked me in an icebox today.
Jennie.
MCKENNA: Margaret Abbott.
I've looked everywhere for her obituary, and it's nowhere.
Well, I found Margaret Abbott.
Margaret changed her name to Sylvia Gallagher.
- We have an address.
- SYLVIA: That is all I know.
We've got it, let's go.
HENRY: McKenna! [BREATHING HEAVILY.]
She said we should play the game again.
TREY: Where? MCKENNA: She said she fed the game souls in a place where a lot of people died.
I'm sorry.
So let's begin.
On the last night of his life, Trey Emory was alone, pinned down, helpless, immobile.
The mounting pressure on his chest constricting his ability to breathe.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
Alex Portnoy looked so terrified there on the ground, chocking, eyes pleading.
Sammi Karras's heart rate dropped and her breathing slowed, and then she died.
Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
ALL: Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
She's dying, she's dying.
She's dead, she's dead.
[GROANS SOFTLY.]
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
Definitely never doing that shit again.
Who's next? Don't tell me you're backing out now.
No, I said I would.
Let's get this over with.
In her brief life, Violet Simmons had hurt more people than she cared to remember.
So in some way she always knew this was coming.
[SCREAMING.]
The shock of the splash soon turned to agony as liquid flowed down her body, 'causing her skin to bubble and split, as it gnawed through layers of dermis and fat, - laying bare the bone beneath.
- [SCREAMING.]
It was in Violet's last moments that she realized the substance eating her alive was acid.
ALL: Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
She's dying, she's dying.
She's dead, she's dead.
So you think it worked? Better have.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
[ETHEREAL MUSIC.]
- MCKENNA: Alex! - Oh.
[GROANS SOFTLY.]
[CHUCKLES.]
What time is it? Um 8:30.
[GROANS.]
Oh, happy New year's Eve, by the way.
Thanks.
Great job keeping an eye on me again.
Yeah, I was afraid I'd fall asleep, so I came up with a backup plan.
[CANS RATTLING.]
- Brilliant.
- [LAUGHS.]
I actually think you can start sleeping at your place again.
Really? MCKENNA: Yeah.
The pain is better.
- I haven't been sleepwalking.
- Oh, my God.
So playing the game at the factory, like Sylvia said Yeah, I think it worked.
Wow, I never thought I'd say this, but thank you, restless souls.
[BOTH CHUCKLE.]
This is amazing.
I gotta run, but I'll call you later about tonight.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
[NOTE REVERBERATES.]
New pedal, nice.
Yeah, thanks.
80 bucks.
Of course, when I ordered it, I figured I'd be dead by the time my stepmom realized I charged it to her Discover card.
I hope that backfires.
Yeah, you and me both.
So you ready to open for Summer Cannibals tonight? Are you kidding? I still can't believe you talked your way into that gig.
Those guys are huge.
We could be big too if we got out of this shithole.
I mean, Portland, Austin, L.
A.
Those are places with real music scenes.
Right, let's just get through tonight first.
So about that game we played the other night.
What about it? TREY: Well, we still don't know for sure that it's gonna lift the curse.
I guess I was just wondering if you had any regrets.
Not a chance, Emory.
And you know why? Because whatever happens now, my boyfriend and I are in it together.
[GENTLE MUSIC.]
Violet Simmons, how are you this lovely morning? Wow, are you actually that happy or are you back on drugs? Come on, how could you possibly be in a bad mood? The curse has been lifted.
You sound so confident.
Of course I am.
Ever heard of The Power of Positive Thinking? VIOLET: No, didn't read it.
And even if we are in the clear, there's still someone out there trying to destroy me.
Violet, Jennie put Sammi in that freezer because she was trying to protect Mack.
It only makes sense that she was the one who cut your brakes too.
Oh, I didn't realize that you were so okay with attempted murder.
I think you've been living with this curse for so long that you don't know how to not be paranoid about it.
So what if just for tonight, you put all of that aside and come out with us? Right, you, me, McKenna, major holiday.
I mean, what could go wrong? Trey's band is playing at Blind Pete's.
We're gonna get dressed up, have some fun.
Just think about it, okay? Maybe, but don't count on it.
[PHONE CHIMES.]
[TENSE MUSIC.]
Hey, I gotta go.
[PHONE CLICKS.]
Good morning.
Hey.
I made some breakfast.
I hope eggs are okay.
Who is this strange, smiling teenager in my kitchen? Um, that would be me.
Happy New Year's Eve.
Right, oh, my God, I almost forgot.
I feel like the holidays have flown by without us spending any time together.
Yeah, but maybe we could do it tomorrow.
- [PHONE CHIMES.]
- DEB: Hmm.
Okay.
- Oh, my God.
- Is everything okay? Yeah, um, it's just from Camden School of Design.
I've just I've been so busy, I didn't really realize the admission emails were coming out today.
Well, open it.
I'm I'm too nervous.
You do it.
Okay.
[GENTLE MUSIC.]
- [INHALES SHARPLY.]
- What? Okay, are those good tears or bad tears? - I can't tell.
- Good.
Very, very good.
Are you serious? Oh, my God.
[BOTH LAUGHING.]
Oh, my God! Oh, my read it.
Hey, Nana, I'll be back with your car in a little bit.
I found an outfit for tonight.
Just some friends.
McKenna, Alex, um [DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
I'll call you back.
Shit.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
Need some help? No, Officer, I'm fine.
That's a pretty big box.
Is it yours? Sorry, what? It's not a trick question.
You do see that enormous box sitting next to you, right? Yeah, I didn't understand what you said at first.
I find that hard to believe.
Anyway, it's mine.
Well, now that we got that all cleared up, what's inside? It's no big deal, Officer.
I could just call a friend and have it out of here in an hour.
Great idea.
Right after you show me what's inside.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
Either you open it or I do.
What the hell is this? Dead violets.
Just a friend playing a prank on me.
- Some friend.
- Yeah, no shit, Officer.
I mean, no kidding.
I'll be back in 30 minutes, and you and that box had better be gone.
[EXHALES SLOWLY.]
[CHEERS AND APPLAUSE.]
[ROCK MUSIC.]
Do it, do it Do it, do it Do it, do it, do it, do it See your name blazing like the sun Play the game and go for number one Everybody wants to be a star Everybody wants to be a star Everybody wants to be a star Give what you got, take what you want Do what it takes to be a star - Hey, Mack.
- Hi.
Hi, Peri, good to see you without all the You had a lot of stuff going on last time - Yeah.
- PERI: It's okay.
So I'm gonna go to the bar.
- I'll see you later, okay? - MCKENNA: Okay.
- Isn't she great? - Yes.
And you guys look so cute together, but I'm really glad I have you alone because I need to talk to you about something.
- Oh, no, what's wrong? - MCKENNA: No, no.
It's actually really good.
I I got into college today.
- What? - MCKENNA: Yeah.
Camden School of Design.
In Chicago.
Wow, I didn't even know you applied.
I know, I didn't want to say anything 'cause I didn't think I had a chance, so McKenna, your dream school.
Do you realize how huge this is? - Yes, yeah.
- Huge! I know, but don't pressure me, okay? I still have three days to decide if I even want to go.
What? Of course you're going.
Why wouldn't you? I mean, I don't know.
Before today, leaving for college felt like this abstract concept and now What? Nothing, it's just before I make a decision, there's something I have to do first.
SAMMI: You're a star Oh, I see.
Let's just say I haven't been completely honest about everything.
SAMMI: Be a star [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE.]
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
[PHONE CHIMES.]
Don't tell me you have guy trouble.
Sorry, I didn't mean to pry.
And yet, you did.
I'm Peri.
Alex's girlfriend.
WOMAN: Oh, my God, hi! Is there something wrong with your drink? Just wish I had one of those over 21 wristbands.
Yeah, well, I can't help you there.
But I do have this.
No, you keep it.
I hope your night gets better.
SAMMI: Yeah [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE.]
Thank you, guys! We're Bit of Decay.
Summer Cannibals are up next.
- Thank you.
- [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE.]
- WOMAN: Cheers, you guys.
- MAN: Cheers, yes.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
WOMAN: Yeah.
I thought we were supposed to be celebrating tonight.
I used to be so sure Henry was alive somewhere, but now Violet, you swear you don't know anything.
For the thousandth time, no.
Okay, I'm sorry.
Does have me thinking though, about that boy in your basement.
What about him? I mean, someone's looking for him.
Just like Lena and Henry.
That has to be weighing on you.
So what do you want me to do, dump the body? No, not dump.
Just place him where someone can find him.
I don't even think that's possible.
Well, then let me help you.
Violet, please.
You need to do this, and not just so that boy's family can move on.
So you can too.
Sounds so easy when you say it.
[MELLOW ROCK MUSIC.]
PERI: Okay, so it's definitely time to go.
Already? 30 more minutes.
- You said that 30 minutes ago.
- [SIGHS.]
What? What's going on? Fine.
McKenna told me she got accepted into art school, but the thought of her moving to Chicago TREY: Chicago? ALEX: Uh, what? You just said McKenna was moving to Chicago.
Did I? Yeah, you said McKenna was going to art school in Chicago.
Exciting, right? We're just gonna go dance.
You okay? Yeah.
Sorry, I I just didn't know McKenna was applying there.
Is that a problem? No, it's just McKenna and I have lived next door to each other since we were kids, so it's just weird to think Nothing.
Just caught me by surprise is all.
Well, maybe the real problem isn't McKenna leaving.
Maybe you're just bothered that she's moving on, while you're stuck here with no plan.
Oh, really? And what's your plan? Well, for example, my mom pain in the ass as she is she's been nagging me to come to New York.
- What, like a trip? - Yeah.
Or maybe longer.
Like, a year or two.
[CHUCKLES.]
I can't tell if you're being serious or not.
You want to move to New York? Possibly.
Or maybe we should move to New York.
[PHONE RINGS.]
Who the hell is this? 911 OPERATOR: 911.
What's your emergency? - No, I didn't call - Hello? 911? Oh, my God.
I need help.
Please, send someone now.
911 OPERATOR: Okay, ma'am, try to calm down.
- Tell me what happened.
- VIOLET: I don't know.
I don't know, we were getting ready for dinner and Mom! Mom! [GENTLE MUSIC.]
- I saw you in the crowd.
- Oh.
- Hope we didn't suck too bad.
- Please.
Jennie always talked about how amazing you guys were.
She was right.
Now that everything is back to normal, um, I just wanted to tell you something.
McKenna, it's okay, I I think I know what you're gonna say.
You do? Yeah, and I'm really happy for you.
About Camden.
I overhead Alex and Peri talking.
Oh.
Right.
[CHUCKLES.]
TREY: I'll be honest, it's gonna be weird not seeing you all the time, but I guess we gotta move on at some point, right? Yeah.
Yeah, time time to move on.
Anyway, I've got to help Sammi load up some stuff in the van - Sure.
- But congrats.
Sorry.
You're gonna stick around till midnight, right? - Uh, yeah.
- Cool.
I'll see you later then.
MCKENNA: Cool.
[CHEERS AND APPLAUSE.]
Despise the strong you know how weak you are Look ahead and see your future's gone 'Cause here it is right in my mother palm Hate who they are You say you hate what they do But you love all the things That they promise you - Out of my way, asshole.
- Hey, what's going on? Like you give a shit.
Okay, you're drunk.
Let me help you.
Why? 'Cause you're my friend? 'Cause you care? Like, for all I know you're probably in on it too.
Seriously? Violet, we've been over this.
- VIOLET: Yeah, maybe you lied.
- Hey, what's going on? - I have no idea.
- Well, McKenna knows.
- Or should I say Jennie? - Okay, Violet, stop.
Frankly, I'm impressed.
How'd you even get that recording? - What recording? - VIOLET: The 911 call.
I know it was you.
Give me your phone.
- What? - Your phone, give it to me.
Okay, fine.
Okay, so maybe it wasn't you.
Well, then who, Sammi? I mean, God knows, Trey's hated me since the beginning.
Violet, tell us what is happening.
- Stop making a scene.
- A scene? My whole life is hell.
I mean, Isaac won't call me back, someone recorded me in my basement, probably the same twisted asshole who just sent me the 911 call from the night my parents died.
So yeah, I'm making a scene.
And you know what else? Someone took the dead kid from my basement.
[MUSIC STOPS.]
ALEX: Ooh, uh.
She's kidding, everybody.
Drunk girl ranting.
Just go back to your fun.

It's not over, McKenna.
Even when it's over, it's not over.
- I don't know how you do it.
- What? With everything that girl's done to you, you still feel sorry for her.
She's a psychopath.
Yeah, but, uh she's our psychopath.
