A fire at Global West Ventures Corp,
a Naval defense contractor.
It appears to be arson,
and the FBI believes that
they know who set the fire.
Y'all recognize this?
That looks eerily familiar.
It's the signature
of a rather infamous arsonist,
Randall Perez, also known as
"On Alert."
He considered himself
putting his targets
"on alert" for the crimes
they committed.
Did you work that case?
No, but I remember him well.
He had the FBI "on alert" for years.
Is this the same guy
who blew up an oil tanker?
Yeah. Talk about Carmageddon.
He shut down the 405 freeway for a week.
Any casualties in this recent fire?
The building is under renovation,
and the foreman, Michael Duncan,
was found dead inside.
LAPD believes that he actually
caught the arsonist in the act
and was then assaulted
and left for dead at the scene.
You know, it's one thing
to burn down a building,
it is another to take a life.
If I remember, Perez's MO
focused on companies
that committed environmental crimes.
Why would he attack
the defense contractor?
It's unclear.
The company has multiple
highly classified Naval projects
in development on all four
of its campuses.
If there's a vendetta
against this company,

Perez took a non-violent,

an environmental terrorist?
Eventually, he began participating
in more radical protests
and was arrested numerous times
- for disorderly conduct.

It took us a year
to ID Perez as a suspect.
Um, but as we closed in on him,
he went on a spree, setting
nine fires in two months.
So, we can expect another fire?
Very likely.
After his last fire,

If he'd stuck to his usual MO,
Mr. Duncan would be alive right now.
He could've burned down

Well, maybe Perez was trying
to send a more subtle message.
Maybe it wasn't Perez.
Global West is extremely lucky
that the fire was contained
to just this room.
(SCOFFS) Not to mention
how fast the fire department got here.
So, you're thinking it wasn't luck?
I'm thinking we need to dig deeper

that's not exactly true.
Why didn't you tell me?
He is dangerous.
You wouldn't understand.

and your father talk about?
Well, he apologizes, mostly.
My mom died right after I was born,
and he feels bad that he's not around.
And he's sorry that he did what he did,
with the fires and everything,
but he felt like
the world was crumbling around us,
and he had to do something
to make everyone wake up.
Hmm.
Did he ever give you any indication
he was trying to get back in the game?
No. He even talked about
turning himself in and serving his time.
Did he tell you where he lives?
No.
When's the last time
you spoke to your father?
Can you, um
write down your cell phone number?
I don't want to get him in trouble.
Crystal, he's already in trouble,
we just want to help him.
FATIMA: Deeks.
What do you got, Fatima?
So, I reviewed Global West's financials,
and they're clean.
As a matter of fact,
they are flush with cash.
They sold off a portion
of the company last year
for a huge profit.
Uh, insurance money
would be a drop in the bucket
at this point.
All right, copy that. Thank you.
So, Fatima couldn't
find any financial motive
for Global West to light
their own building on fire.
What about you, you find
anything in that, uh,
fire inspector report?
It's only preliminary.
Apparently, the arsonist
used thermite as an accelerant.
It's easy to make and transport.
So, just like Perez.
Don't forget, Perez uses his own recipe.
We'll have to wait
for the final arson report
to see if they match.
Fortunately,
none of the unique ingredients
have been released to the public.
Oh, that's interesting.
So, if this was the handiwork
of a copycat,
they wouldn't know the exact recipe.
- Exactly.
- Huh.
If Perez or the copycat
continue to follow
Perez's arson pattern,
they're gonna need more ingredients.
I mean, it would take a ton of thermite
just to cover this room.
Only a few retailers where you can buy
iron oxide and aluminum powder in bulk.
If we can find out
where a large purchase was made,

I'm gonna call Fatima.
PEMBROOK: Remember?

DEEKS: So,
we've already found three footprints

Don't tell me you learned how to
be a detective on the Internet.

Or somebody picked him up.

Well, that could be anyone.
Well, there's only one way to find out.
Oh!
Wow! Ladies and gentlemen,
that is what the Internet is for.
- You, my friend, got lucky.
- Did I?
So, if the car sped east to the street,
which these
acceleration marks indicate
Then the arsonist got in
on the passenger's side.
There was a driver.
The arsonist must've had an accomplice.
Yeah, but Perez always worked alone.
This is feeling more and more
like a copycat arsonist.
Now, we're looking for two.

I'd like a sitrep.

So, Sam and Deeks were right
about a car leaving the alley

A traffic cam caught the getaway car

Navarro is smart.
Must've broke it down
with a mass spectrometer.
When I heard about the fire
and that someone was using my signature,
I knew it had to be Navarro.
SAM: Assume we believe you.
Navarro started this latest fire.
We know he had an accomplice.
If not you, then who?
I don't know.
When I met Navarro, he was young, mad,
and impressionable.
He wanted to change the world.
He used to hang out
at the house all the time.
He became like family.
When he found out who I was,
he wanted to join me, but I put him off.
I swear, we are not working together.
Navarro know your sister?
No, no. I lived on the other
side of town from Denise.
What about Crystal?
She know Navarro?
Yeah, he was like a big brother to her.
SAM: If Crystal's close to Navarro,
she may still be in contact with him.
- Rountree?
- ROUNTREE (OVER COMMS): What's up, Sam?
Was Castor able to locate Crystal?
ROUNTREE: No. We tried to reach her,
but her phone's turned off.
Denise said this wasn't like her,
and, according to her job,
she hasn't been to work in over a week.
She quit out of the blue.
Crystal quit her job.
We can't locate her.
When you spoke with her,
did she ever mention Navarro?
No. I mean (SIGHS)
Maybe I mentioned him from time to time,
just telling old stories, yeah.
Did Crystal know Navarro has your stuff?
Yes. Maybe
Listen, if you think
that she is involved
with Navarro, you're wrong.
She knows that I regret what I did.
Or you regret getting caught.
MOREHURST: Alert me as soon as you know.
My agents found Crystal's car
at a mini-mart in Sylmar.
A clerk saw her get
into a light blue sedan
with a man that matches
Navarro's description.
They're checking the camera
for plates. Denise?
ROUNTREE: She doesn't recall
Crystal mentioning any new friends
or acting suspicious, but
she could be lying
to cover up for Crystal.
Just like she protected Perez.
(SIGHS)
If Crystal and Navarro are both intent
on carrying out Perez's mission,
where's the environmental angle?
- Maybe we're looking at this all wrong.
- Hmm.
If Navarro has sought out Crystal,
- then maybe he has his own agenda.
- Mm.
FATIMA (OVER COMMS):
Rountree, you might be right.
I broadened my search
to find a connection
between the companies
on the list from the garage,
and I found one.
All the companies donated large sums
to Senator Greg Garrett's
reelection campaign.
Okay, so why attack the companies?
Garrett recently killed a major
climate bill in the Senate.
They want to punish the
companies for supporting him
and keeping him in office.
So, what's the next target?
The senator's in town.
He's touring an abandoned factory
that's part of an urban
renewal project in Newhall,
but it's not on the list.
That's near Sylmar, where
Crystal met up with Navarro.
If Crystal and Navarro
are headed to that factory
Then they're not trying
to attack any of the companies,
- they're after the senator.
- Mm-hmm.
Fatima, can you alert Deeks and Sam
and the senator's team?
We're on our way.
Looks like the senator's
already arrived.
Fatima, were you able to speak
to the senator's team?
Yes. We're evacuating everyone.
If Crystal and Navarro
came straight from Sylmar,
they're gonna have
an hour-long jump on us.
That's enough time to lay down
accelerant and torch this place.
You two. We got to find
the senator fast.

SAM: Any sign of the senator?
No, not yet.
No sign of Crystal or Navarro.
12 o'clock.
SAM: Federal agents!
We got eyes on Crystal.
Keep looking for Garrett.
Senator Garrett.
We're here to get you and
your team out of here safely.
I'm with NCIS.
- (GUNSHOTS)
- (MAN GRUNTS)
Get behind me.
I got Navarro.
Crystal, you've already
done enough damage.
Come out. We can help you.
Doesn't look like there's an exit.
She's got to be in here.
It's an old building,
she might have found a way out.
Rountree, Morehurst,
keep eyes out for Crystal.
MOREHURST: Copy that.
Rountree is on Navarro.
(BOTH GRUNTING)
ROUNTREE: Guys, I got Navarro.
Crystal, stop!
I got eyes on Crystal.
So do I.
This is over, Crystal.
- We have Navarro.
- Yeah.
We are not the criminals.
We believe you, okay?
We know that Navarro put you up to this.
Put your hands up.
I'm covered in thermite.
If you don't let me go,
I will light myself
and this bag on fire!
You know that's not what
your father would've wanted.
He did all of this for you.
He loves you.
You don't have to do this, Crystal.
Come on.
Come on.
(EXHALES)
Let's go.
Hands.
You guys good?
Well, nothing a warm shower
and cold beer won't fix.
The senator, are they okay?
His aide's on the way to the hospital.
Sorry to disappoint you, Crystal.
We put the fire out.
We knocked it down.
You know, I always wanted
to be a fireman.
- SAM: Mm.
- Mostly just to get in the calendar.
(CHUCKLES) Really?
(EXHALES, GROANS)
Oh, Admiral!
I was just coming to see you.
Ah, good work today.
And I just got word
that the senator's aide
only suffered a flesh wound
and is doing well.
Well, that is good to hear
'cause Navarro was out for blood.
That could have been a lot worse.
Indeed.
You wanted to see me.
Is this about the conference?
Yes, yes, after extensive consideration,
I have decided
not to attend.
That's understandable.
I'm sure that Agent Blye was relieved.
Actually, she was okay with me going.
And said if I didn't, that she would.
Ah.
Your call, Agent Deeks.
And a good one, if I do say so myself.
Thank you, sir.
And don't feel too bad.
There's always
Albuquerque next year.
I love Albuquerque.
Mm.
And I'll make sure that Agent Rountree
thanks you for his trip to Costa Rica.
(STAMMERS)
Don't worry,
I won't let him forget it, sir.
(BOTH LAUGH)
Hey, come on, don't cry.
We'll see each other.
And until then, we'll write, okay?
- (SNIFFLES)
- I love you, sweet girl.
(CRYING): Love you, Daddy.
All right, let's go.
(ROUNTREE SIGHS)
Wow, that was bittersweet.
Yeah, it's a shame.
She reaches out to Navarro
to get her father's belongings
and winds up
an arsonist and a murderer.
Yeah.
- Hey, uh
- Hmm?
thanks for coordinating that
with your office,
- you know,
- Yeah.
so they could see each other.
- Yeah.
- I owe you one.
I saved your life today.
I think you owe me more like five.
(CHUCKLES SOFTLY)
Okay. Five IOUs.
And don't you worry, I'll be
calling in all of those favors.
Mm.
You're gonna call me?
(INHALES DEEPLY)
I got to go.
(SIGHS)
You know what, um,
and thanks for that apology.
I didn't realize how much I needed that.
It was fun working with you today.
Yeah, we work well together.
We do.
Agent Morehurst, you're still here.
Uh, I was just leaving.
It was lovely meeting you, Agent Hanna.
Nice to meet you, as well.
Tell Rasheed I'll see him next weekend.
I may join him.
- Yeah?
- Mm-hmm.
I'm not a nice guy in the Pickledome.
Neither am I.
Okay, be ready.
- I will. All right, goodnight.
- All right.
Good night.
(DOOR OPENS)
- Thought you were leaving.
- (DOOR CLOSES)
Yeah, I was, but I figured
I'd get prepped for tomorrow.
Want to get an early start.
How's 4:30 a.m. sound?
Are you gonna call her?
What? Her Oh. (SCOFFS)
Nah, man, she don't want me to call her.
You know what your problem is?
- I see what it is.
- What?
When you're faced with challenges
that have an unknown variable,
you start getting all in your head.
Sometimes you just got
to do the work, dive in,
enjoy the ride.
- Hmm?
- Yeah.
You're right, I-I I do think
Call that woman, man, call her!
She's probably still sitting in the car.
- Matter of fact, go, go.
- All right, all right, all right.
- (LINE RINGING)
- Go.
Summer, hold up.
I always enjoy a nice scotch
with a good book.
Yeah, this is a real page-turner.
Did you read this?
No, no.
But I did call in some favors
to get everything I could find.
But this is your story, Agent Callen.
It is not my place to
invade your privacy.
Now, that said,
if there's anything in there
you want to talk about,
you know where to find me.
(CLEARS THROAT)
We've all done things we regret.
Hetty doesn't seem to be the
kind of person to regret much.
Don't kid yourself.
Now, she may put on a good front,
but Hetty has enough regrets
for all of us.
She has done things
that most wouldn't
to keep the rest of us safe.
Unfortunately, that comes with some
very dark, ugly things
that you carry with you to your grave.
Well, I'm not sure
how indoctrinating children
does much to keep people safe.
I don't know.
Seems to me you keep
people safe every day.
So maybe some good did come of it.
Even if their methods were
ethically and morally questionable.
If not reprehensible.
I don't always agree with her.
And I usually don't like
the way she operates.
Hell, I'm not even sure
I even like her most days.
But I damn well respect her.
Henrietta and I'm sure
that's not even her real name
Henrietta has dedicated
her life to the greater good.
She has made mistakes along the way
just like the rest of us.
But it was always done in
the service of this country.
So
am I a mistake or a
dark, ugly thing she has
to carry to the grave?
(SIGHS)
Only you can decide that, Agent Callen.
But in my experience,
the past is a place to learn from.
Not to live in.
Enjoy the scotch.
Turn off the lights when you leave.
(SIGHS HEAVILY)
