[ cheers and applause .]
Blake: I'm blown away by the talent this season.
You never know who can win this show.
Pharrell: I'm excited because i'm totally looking forward To working with really amazing singers.
Gwen: We know nothing about their story.
We're not influenced at all.
I just love to hit my button to change their lives.
Adam: It's all real, visceral reactions to music.
That's why people love this show.
Daly: After night three of the blinduditions, Here is where our coaches' teams stand.
Oh! Daly: Adam scored three diverse vocalists, Bringing his total to seven.
Adam: My team is amazing.
I've got country music.
I got rock 'n' roll.
I have pop music.
I'm just looking for equally amazing people.
So, i'm super excited.
Yay! Daly: Gwen added two soulful singers, Giving her eight.
Gwen: So, i have very unique artists on my team, And i'm just gonna keep looking for people that move me.
[ grunts .]
Daly: Pharrell picked four unique artists.
He also has eight.
I love how different you are.
Team other is on our way.
Oh! As a producer, it's always fun To find a diamond that's in the rough.
That's what this is all about.
Yes! Daly: And blake landed three singers, Giving him eight total artists.
I can't believe it! Blake: The other coaches should watch out for my team this season, Because i've got killer strategy in play.
All bets are off.
You got to come out swinging in these blind auditions If you want anybody good on your team.
What in the hell is wrong with you three? Daly: Tonight, as the teams fill up, Exceptional singers hit the stage And give it everything they got.
what's going on [ cheers and applause .]
Oh, my god! That performance was phenomenal.
You can win this entire thing.
the situation's out of control daly: It's a night of epic performances.
Whoo! Your voice is so magic.
I'm happy that this show has this kind of talent.
I can't hear you! I'm still clapping.
[ cheers and applause .]
Daly: With the coaches' teams more than half full Wow! Our coaches try harder than ever To get the best talent.
I'm gonna fight like a maniac.
Were you singing, like, right to my face? Yeah! And then -- That is against the rules, what you're doing right now.
I'm not -- that is out of bounds! Foul at the spot of the pitch.
I hate you.
I think your decision is clear.
please, please, please Daly: "the voice" continues Oh-ho-ho.
Let the games begin.
[ laughs .]
pharrell: Wow.
Daly: Right now.
[ cheers and applause .]
It's night four of the blind auditions At universal studios hollywood, and our coaches are ready.
Today is gonna be an amazing day.
Here goes nothing.
No, here goes something.
I love this place.
Good times.
Let's go win another one.
It's not so much that i'm gonna win, But i feel more like Blake and gwen and pharrell are gonna lose.
Let's go.
Come.
Daly: As they get settled, Let's meet the night's first artist, Who hopes his smooth sound will impress the coaches.
Darius: My name is darius scott.
I'm 23 years old.
I currently live in dallas, texas.
My mom is very musically inclined.
She went to college on a woodwind scholarship.
Growing up in church, My dad asked me if i wanted to sing a solo.
You know, with "o holy night" there's a very high part, And he hit that note and i was like, "wow.
Was that my child?" [ laughs .]
[ drumming .]
Darius: I love instruments.
I play guitar, bass, and organ, piano, and clarinet.
Pretty much anything that i put my hands to, I just pick it up.
Growing up, I completely immersed myself in my music, As well as the artistic areas -- Theater, was into dance, Very into fashion.
So, what colors do you like? Usually black, but i mix it up with denim.
I'm now a freelance stylist.
That's a good choice, man.
Being a stylist, i help transform the looks of clients.
But in my heart, i'm a musician.
I have to put music first.
You got to keep doing what you're doing And don't forget to practice.
Well, darius is very talented in his music, In singing, in composing.
I think it's his time because he's been very patient In waiting for an opportunity like this to come along.
I've done a lot of hard work as a performer, As a background singer, And i decided to self-fund and self-produce my own album.
I tip my hat To all the independent artists that are doing it, Because it's expensive, Draining, and sometimes depressing.
I learned a valuable lesson -- that you need a good team.
And being on "the voice," like, having these amazing coaches, That's gonna afford me an incredible opportunity.
My dream is to be a singer, And that's what i want to do for the rest of my life.
Thousands of people go for this one spot.
I really plan to take full advantage of it.
-Come on, come on, come on.
-Come on, now.
Do it, son.
Do it.
Do it.
you make me wanna leave the one i'm with start a new relationship with you this is what you do think about a ring and all the things that come along with you make me before anything began between us you were like my best friend the one i used to run and talk to when me and my girl were having problems you used to say it would be okay suggest little nice things i should do but when i go home at night and lay my head down all i seem to think about is you how you make me wanna leave the one i'm with [ cheers and applause .]
Yeah! Yes! All right! Come on! Yeah! this is what you do think about a ring and all the things that come along with you make me you make me at this point the situation's out of control i tried, i tried to fight it but the feeling's just too stro-o-o-ng oh, you make me wanna le-e-e-ave leave whoa! think about a ring and all the things that come along with you make me you make me wanna leave the one i'm with start a new relationship with you this is what you do think about a ring and all the things that come along with you make me you make me-e-e-e [ cheers and applause .]
Whoo! Whoo! Whoo! [ laughs .]
what's your name? I'm darius scott.
Well, buddy [ cheers and applause .]
Congratulations, and let the games begin.
[ laughter .]
Okay.
Your voice is so magic.
It started getting better and better, And then you went to this crazy other level Where our minds were being blown.
And your presence onstage, and your style is incredible.
I'd love to work with someone like you.
Thank you very much.
I appreciate that.
Dude, your approach to, like, the first verse was great.
I was like, "oh, this guy can sing.
" And then at the very end, You went up the scale, down the scale, Back up the scale, down the scale again.
And i was like, "okay, this guy is super special.
" I'm definitely gonna have some closing words, 'cause i don't want to give it all away right now.
[ laughs .]
I have some closing -- I'm gonna have to close, too, so So, i'ma -- i'ma let -- How can we have two -- It's gonna be hard for us both to close, 'cause i'm gonna say a lot of stuff, as well.
And i just would be remiss Not to follow that up with something.
A-and i would be remiss Not to follow up your follow-up to my something.
[ laughter .]
And i will tell you, man, Your sheer ability to hit whatever notes you want to hit, You have that in spades.
No one's gonna teach you how to do that.
That's right.
That's right.
Adam: You also have this tremendous ability to connect.
I'm super excited about this season, Because i'm more fired up than i've ever been, And i'm gonna fight like a maniac.
So, whatever he says, i'm gonna say something else, Because i have to show you That even though i might not be -- what about whatever i say? I don't care what anybody says.
Okay.
I am the most experienced.
I have had the longest career.
[ cheers and applause .]
Hear, hear! And now i'm on this show to be able to coach And have that experience With someone that is so gifted like you.
I feel like we can both help each other.
Stylistically, you do something Completely different from what i've done.
But if you look at all the songs i've ever made, It's always been a mash-up of so many different styles, And i think that's something that we could have fun with.
[ cheers and applause .]
What kind of songs Do you want to sing going forward? Like, i'd definitely like to tackle, like, a folk song And like, sit at the piano and play Oh, my god.
Please, stop it.
And, like -- you play piano? I do.
I play piano and drums Oh, gosh.
And guitar and I screwed the pooch, for sure.
[ laughter .]
I play those things.
[ laughter .]
I do.
[ laughs .]
gwen's right.
She's had the longest career of all of us.
But as far as "the voice" is concerned, I have been on the show for nine seasons.
I think that's important to consider When you're choosing a coach.
And i'm done.
'cause i can't say anything else 'cause i'm gonna get too emotional about it, and i love you v .]
Who do you pick as your coach? [ chuckles .]
[ audience shouting .]
Wow.
Okay, okay.
I totally didn't get a last word.
When i was 18 years old, The first thing i did when i entered my college campus, I went to a tattoo parlor.
You have a lot of tattoos, adam.
I-i do.
I do.
But [ laughs .]
High school wouldn't have been high school Without n.
E.
R.
D Yeah, here we go.
Aww! And i have an n.
E.
R.
D.
Tattoo.
So i pick pharrell.
[ cheers and applause .]
I knew it.
Yeah! Yeah! Dead serious.
Wow! Wow! Thank you, man.
I appreciate it.
[ cheers and applause .]
I'm so happy for you.
That was so cool.
What's up? That dude is amazing.
Ah-ma-zing.
Gwen: Whoa! Pharrell: Darius -- that dude's voice is so great, Well, he could teach me something.
Hey, i think that's pharrell rubbing it in on you.
I've never seen him do this.
Adam: I missed out on darius.
His voice was perfection.
I think that's pharrell's best guy.
Thank you.
[ laughs .]
I had to pick my hero pharrell.
There's the tattoo.
I'm so ready to get started.
I don't know what to do.
Aah! I'm so excited! Raymond: [ laughs .]
You did it! Good job, good job.
Good job! Damn it! That dude's going all the way with you.
I'm excited about that.
You let go of him, he's mine.
So be careful.
Daly: Coming up, an unusual artist Hello, earthlings.
[ laughs .]
if i could fly, then i would know Daly: Finds acceptance.
You're cool.
No, i'm not cool.
[ laughter .]
daly: And later [ cheers and applause .]
With the teams filling up you know i saw Daly: The artists give it their all just give me one thing what's going on Daly: And our coaches can't help but celebrate.
Gwen: Yay! Yes! y'all didn't get that girl so i'm gon' keep on dancin' [ cheers and applause .]
this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
This next artist is anything but typical.
Hello, earthlings.
I'm korin bukowski.
I'm 20 years old, and i'm from miami, florida.
Growing up, i was very bizarre.
I just get told that a lot.
Like, "she's a nice kid, but she's, like, off.
" [ laughs .]
Diane: Korin, as a child, was very curious, And she would always be missing.
I would see her either up in a tree Or someplace in the backyard playing with dead bugs Or dissecting a bug with a stick Oh, geez! Just to try to see what makes it tick.
I just like bugs.
They're just all so different and cool, And they don't talk like people do.
[ laughs .]
So, yeah.
I'm pretty sure i'm the least musical in my family.
My parents were in a band called the doctors.
It used to be all doctors like my dad.
I would scream the songs, And people would be looking at me.
I'd be like, "it's 'cause i'm awesome at singing.
" But it turns out i was pretty darn bad.
As she grew up, her voice became more pure.
[ laughs .]
and now she sings like an angel.
I joined the choir, and i guess something clicked.
When i sing, that's when i feel the happiest.
And i can finally be who i am without, like, judgment.
High school was hard [chuckles.]
for me.
You know, you expect kids to be bullies, But it was teachers that were really cruel to me.
I was told, "korin, from you i expect nothing.
" Singing helped me get through those times That i felt i wasn't adequate enough for everyone else.
It's my passion, And there's just nothing else i can imagine doing.
There really is not.
Right now, i go to the university of miami, And i'm currently on the pre-med track.
I kind of sit in the classroom, i'm like, "whyyyyy?" I would kick myself if i didn't pursue this.
I'd be like, "what if?" forever.
And that would be awful.
I feel like the coaches could help me figure out Where to go from here.
After years of just being stripped to your emotional core, Like, "oh, you can't do this," that goes away.
"you can't do this," that goes away.
To have something like this, It's like a "finally!" kind of thing.
Like, "yes!" I never thought i could get this far in anything.
[ chuckles .]
If a chair were to turn, it would be insane.
Just such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, really.
Oh, sweetie.
[ chuckles .]
i've café crawled through amsterdam i've been around the world with a punk-rock band oh, oh, and i've seen london and i've played japan i've been knocked down, i got up again [ rhythmic clapping .]
for all the places i have been i'm no place without you if i could fly then i would know what life looks like from up above and down below i'll keep you safe i'll keep you dry don't be afraid, cecilia, i'm the satellite Oh! She made it, guys.
You're all right.
and you're the sky you're all right.
Congratulations.
ohh, oh-oh, oh, ohhh ohh, oh, oh don't be afraid, cecilia, i'm the satellite and you're the sky [ cheers and applause .]
yay! Yay! Oh, my gosh.
[ laughs .]
How cute! -Hi! -You did it! Hello.
You made it.
You're on "the voice.
" [ laughs .]
yeah.
Congratulations.
Thank you! You're on team gwen.
Yeah! [ cheers and applause .]
Adam: What's your name? My name is korin bukowski.
You are so cute.
[ laughs .]
thank you.
You have cool hair.
You're cool.
No, i'm not cool in any sense whatsoever.
[ laughter .]
No, but listen, the coolest people are not cool.
[ laughter .]
thanks.
From the very beginning, When you first started singing, man, i loved the control, And i love that you sing it your own way.
It's -- it's super cool, and so Yay! It's awesome.
[ applause .]
Blake: Hey, sis, i'll make it real quick and simple.
I'm down to a couple of spots left on my team.
I didn't hit my button.
Gwen did.
That's where you belong, anyway.
So congratulations to you.
Thank you so much.
Yeah.
[ applause .]
I really liked your tone.
I thought it was really unique and interesting and weird.
[ laughs .]
and then i saw That you had so much more than just the tone.
Like, you have a lot of dynamics and a lot of range, Which i was really kind of shocked For somebody that has a -- An interesting character voice like you do Yeah.
To have the range that you have is really rare.
Do you sing full time? No.
I'm pre-med, actually, at school.
Wow.
Whoa.
Doesn't mean i get good grades.
It just -- i'm just in pre-med.
[ laughter .]
I knew you were cool.
That's what i like about it.
I like that -- that it was just so different.
Thank you.
Me too.
And i'm really happy, Because now i get to give you one of these really cute shirts.
No way! Whoa! Oh, my god.
Those are hard to get.
Thank you so much! [ cheers and applause .]
welcome to team gwen! Korin: Right when i saw that light, I was like, "yeahhh, gwen!" So[ chuckles .]
Yeah! No! I'm her idol.
Aah! Awesome! I didn't think this would ever happen.
I really didn't.
So this is awesome.
It's gonna be so fun.
Gwen: Korin, i like That she's so kind of left and unusual, And i think that she has a real style to her voice, And i think that it was meant to be.
Nice job! [ laughs .]
[ applause .]
Give me that hat.
I know.
My hat fell off.
Congratulations! My hat.
My hat.
I'm bald! [ laughs .]
That girl's good.
When you're sweet, you're so sweet.
Oh.
You never said something like that to me before.
I know.
You always say i'm mean.
Just, you -- you have extreme personality disorder, Where one minute -- [ laughs .]
That made my day.
Daly: Coming up [ cheers and applause .]
A four-chair turn Has our coaches in disbelief.
Ha! Thank you for being good! [ laughs .]
I take my hat off to you.
I think that it was flawless.
Can i at least talk for a second? No! No! Damn! [ laughter .]
this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Now that gwen has landed her first artist of the night, Blake is feeling a little intimidated.
Promise me one thing.
That i'm gonna hurt you? Yeah.
-No.
-Oh.
Promise me that you won't get your hopes up.
About what? He's doing it already.
I mean, you know He's trying to get in your dome.
Don't worry about it.
[ laughs .]
If i hit my button at the same time you hit your button You're gonna -- I don't want you to be all upset and crying.
[ laughs .]
can you imagine if a girl won? Like, if i won? It'd be pretty legendary.
Well, if one does win, i hope it's you.
Thank you.
-Aww.
-Oh, my gosh.
But, again, don't get your hopes up.
[ laughs .]
Daly: While our coaches head back to their chairs, Let's meet our next artist -- A country girl who comes from humble beginnings.
Krista: My name is krista hughes.
I'm 22 years old, And i'm from coal city, west virginia.
It is such a small town.
We don't even have a traffic light.
I mean, i think we have two stop signs.
I never, ever anticipated Seeing los angeles, california, at all.
People can't understand the way i talk.
I don't think i'm that country, but apparently i am.
Uh, coca-cola is not called "pop" out here.
Just a heads-up.
[ laughs .]
Man, this is something else here.
This is crazy.
Growing up, i was raised by my grandparents.
My parents had me at a very young age.
My mom was only 14.
They were both kids.
I can't really blame them For not knowing how to take care of me.
If i had a kid right now, I'm not sure i'd know what to do.
"the voice" is going to be krista's big break, And all four chairs are gonna turn.
And if they don't, they can't hear.
That's all i got to say.
[ laughs .]
Oh, my gosh.
O-kay.
My grandpa is the main reason that i got into music.
When i was 4 years old, He bought me a small little guitar from a pawn shop.
I got serious about music when i was about 15.
I play restaurants and bars every weekend.
I teach guitar lessons, as well, so that helps some, too.
The music scene in coal city, it's not a real big thing, So "the voice" is an amazing opportunity.
And i want to make my grandparents proud of me.
[ voice breaking .]
i just want to say thank you both, uh [ voice breaking .]
you're welcome.
So much.
'cause, um Without you, None of this would be even happening right now.
I mean, you are -- you are the reason that i'm here.
[ sniffles .]
[ laughs .]
Before "the voice," I'd never even been on an airplane.
And having this opportunity is mind-blowing.
I'm a country girl, And blake is my favorite as far as his personality goes.
But pharrell is so down to earth.
I'd love to work with him.
When i step out on that stage, I'm just gonna sing from my heart, And i'm just gonna lay it all out there.
You go, girl.
You go, girl.
You go.
She's got it.
ohhhhh, yeah [ cheers and applause .]
Hey.
Smooth.
i am an old woman named after my mother [ cheers and applause .]
my old man is another Whoo! child that's grown old if dreams were thunder and lightning was desire this old house would've burned down [ cheers and applause .]
Yes! a long time ago i told you she'd do it.
make me an angel that flies from montgomery make me a poster of an old rodeo just give me one thing, lord i can hold on to to believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go [ cheers and applause .]
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Gwen: Thank you for being good! Thank you.
[ chuckles .]
thank you.
Adam: That was better than good.
That was so good.
Yeah.
What a beautiful, honest, natural talent you are.
Thank you.
Gwen: Congratulations.
Yeah.
All i want to say is I can't help you with the things That cowboy dan can over there [ laughter .]
But -- i can't.
I can't do what he can do for you.
But i would never want you to do Anything other than country music, And -- and i can instill confidence in you.
I know that -- i know -- can you ask her her name? No, i don't -- i don't even need to know, 'cause she's the most amazing singer.
What is your name, though? My name is krista hughes.
Well, krista, i really hope That you at least think about it a little bit, I think that it was flawless.
Thank you.
[ applause .]
It's really cool to come on here and be yourself And get four chairs to turn around, And then land it perfectly.
All right.
[ laughs .]
that was super impressive to me.
I take my hat off to you.
Thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
Blake: Hi, krista.
Hi.
Where are you from, by the way? I'm from coal city, west virginia.
It's just a little coal-mining town.
Damn it.
Whoa.
She's twanging it out.
Oh, i already hear your voice changing When you're talking to him.
It's over.
Yeah.
This is how i talk.
I can't help it.
[ laughs .]
Do you only care about country music? Oh, no.
I love all types of music.
Do you want to do something more than country music? I mean, look at taylor swift, right? Can i at least talk to her for a second? No! No! Why? Hey -- Because i don't take anything for granted.
Aw, shucks.
And, yes, i'm a country artist, And i've got a feeling that some of your influences May not be the stuff that we're exactly hearing on the radio.
Yeah.
Merle haggard, and Yeah.
Pharrell: Wow.
George jones.
There's nobody like that out there right now.
And song choice for you may be more important Than any other artist that's gonna audition.
You need somebody who can get there with you.
So, please, pick me as your coach.
[ audience shouting .]
Okay.
[ clears throat .]
[ dramatic music plays .]
Well, um UmUm Uh, i pick blake.
All right! whoa, oh, oh ready, set, go i gotta get out of this small town Yay! That was awesome.
Thank you.
So good to meet you, sweetie.
You too.
You're gonna have a blast.
I can't wrap my head around this right now.
I really can't.
I can't believe i got four chairs to turn.
[ cheers and applause .]
Blake: I think krista could win this thing.
We need her in country music.
We need her on this show.
gotta get out of this small town She's real good real deal.
That's awesome.
Blake, she's really good.
You could've been like, "oooooh.
" That could've been your commentary, And she would've been like, "blake.
" y'all didn't get that girl so i'm gon' keep on dancin' [ cheers and applause .]
[ laughs .]
Oh-ho-ho! You like that? You like that right there? Huh? You like that? I loved it.
Do it up there.
Do it again.
Adam: It's so amazing.
[ cheers and applause .]
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
He's so good.
Thank you.
Newest member of team blake.
All right! How about that? Hey, baby! This is my pride and joy.
I am the proudest human that's ever walked right now.
Together: Team blake! Here you come.
All right! Whoo, yes! He's a magician.
I know.
He speaks with that accent, And they -- they become mesmerized.
He stokes fires.
And, by the way, it's not just country.
No, it's all of it.
She's good.
Daly: Still to come, an international singer Man: I'm living in budapest, hungary.
If i don't at least try to make it happen in america, I'm not gonna feel complete.
Daly: Is going for the american dream.
what's going on i want to know what's going on [ cheers and applause .]
that guy is white.
What? What's that? I can't hear you.
I'm still clapping.
Daly: And later i love you, i do Daly: Great performances i want to thank you daly: That shock our coaches Wow.
Oh, my god! Come on! Daly: And have them pleading for artists.
Please.
Please.
this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Our next artist, 28-year-old janae strother from herndon, virginia, Is ready to bring her high energy to the "voice" stage.
I'm actually kind of getting nervous now.
This is intense.
[ laughs .]
My mother is a pastor and a strong singer.
When i was little, She was the one who had all the solos in the choir, And i always just used to look at her and, like, "that's what i want to do.
I want to be just like my mom.
" In high school, when i wasn't doing music, I was a part of the step team.
What's a step team? Can i show you? Yeah.
Let me see what you got.
[ rhythmic clapping, stomping .]
That's cool! I ended up going to virginia state university And joining the choir there.
We sang at the pantheon and at the vatican.
It was an amazing experience that i never would've had Had i not chose to be in the choir.
Growing up, i've always known that i've liked women.
But because my mom is a pastor, You don't really want to come out And say anything like that.
My freshman year of college, I finally got the courage to tell my parents, And the thing that they both said was They don't judge me, they love me.
And that made me feel like i'm okay.
I ended up going out with a girl my junior year, And i'm still with her to this day.
Her name is sarah.
I love my parents because they not only accepted me, They accepted her.
I've been teaching for four years now At the mt.
Pleasant christian academy.
I teach all sorts of music.
i'm a hot-air balloon Miss janae inspires me to be better in singing.
Bye, guys! Bye! Being a teacher is a life-changing experience for me.
But i want my students to understand They should always follow their dreams, 'cause that's exactly what i'm doing on "the voice.
" I want to branch away From just being known as a gospel singer.
I am gonna cut loose onstage, Because i don't really know how to scale back.
I have a kind of voice that you don't really hear all the time, So i'm excited that the coaches get to hear me Before they turn around.
This is just gonna be an amazing opportunity.
Come on, guys.

Gwen: Wow.
Hello.
What's your name? I'm janae strother from herndon, virginia.
I'm 28 years old.
You were having an absolute party Up here on this stage.
And -- and i feel like [ cheers and applause .]
And it felt like the four of us weren't invited 'cause we couldn't see what you were doing.
ButWhen there's too much of a party going on up here, Sometimes the singing suffers.
You were falling in and out of the pocket.
And i'm guessing you were up here dancing around.
But you got to remember, we're listening to you like we're listening to the radio.
I wanted to say that i love what your voice was doing, The rasp when you would say "too hot.
" It's a cool, interesting, like, female growl.
Like, it's cool.
Thank you.
The minute one person turns around, You can start doing cartwheels if you want to, 'cause you made it.
It's almost like you're robbing yourself Of the opportunity for us to really hear you.
And that's -- that's a bummer, Because now that i get to talk to you for a second And know that you gave a great performance, It makes me sad that i didn't get to experience your vocal In its full potential.
But thank you.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
Oh, god.
Thank you.
Oh, man.
Pharrell: I got three spots left.
I want to be very selective.
Good is not gonna cut it.
It's got to be exceptional.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
My nerves were definitely going crazy, And i felt like, when the music started, i just went at 100, And i should've just brought it, you know, at 80 at first, And then let them hear me a little bit more.
[ cheering .]
You did amazing! You did amazing.
You did amazing.
You did amazing.
Put your head up.
You did amazing.
It's okay, baby.
She had a cool little vibe.
I loved her style, though.
She has a cute little outfit on.
Yeah.
don't believe me just watch, bah! you want a drink of my drink? [ laughter .]
Daly: Still to come i want to thank you daly: A stand-out performance That has our coaches seeing double.
Wow.
That is so amazing.
Both: Thank you.
Are you guys sisters? Both: We're twins.
Oh, my god.
[ laughter .]
this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back.
So far tonight, Pharrell added r&b singer darius scott No way! Whoa! Daly: Gwen landed indie artist korin bukowski All right! Blake scored country singer krista hughes, But adam is still trying to land his first artist of the night.
Adam: Competition's even tougher now.
I don't care if i have no chance at all.
I'm still fighting.
Daly: Let's meet th next young artist Who's eager to make a team.
My name's chance peña.
I'm 15 years old, and i'm from tyler, texas.
My parents have owned and operated gyms For a little over 15 years.
My parents opened the first crossfit gym in tyler, texas.
Growing up around my parents' gyms, I was used to big machines and buff guys walking around, And i really thought about getting into the gym.
Even though my parents have always been involved in fitness, They never pushed me to do something i didn't want to do.
Music is something i can lose myself in And let out my feelings, And i just really enjoy it, and it's my passion.
I never really started singing until i was 11.
I would sing in my room by myself.
I first started singing in front of my family, And then i'd play for people When, uh, we'd have guests over.
I'm currently a sophomore in high school.
They have orchestra and band and choir, But it feels too restricted for me.
I just like to be free when i play music.
I probably do six to eight shows a month.
Most of my gigs are either on the weekend or after school.
Well, since i don't have a driver's license, I have an unpaid chauffeur, or dad.
I am his roadie.
I set up his equipment Chauffeur.
And i drive him around, And i clean up, and i carry his guitar.
So i do it all.
Going from playing barbecue places And little restaurants in my hometown to this, It's a big jump, but i think i'm ready.
This one performance could take me From playing in front of 30 or 40 people to thousands To have this opportunity at my age, it's surreal.
I mean, this is a chance for me to do what i love as a living Starting at just 15 years old.
Come on, chance.
Come on, buddy.
if this is to end in fire we should all burn together watch the flames climb high into the night calling out "father" stand by as we will watch the flames burn auburn on the mountainside and i see fire inside the mountain and i see fire burn auburn on the mountainside [ cheers and applause .]
and i hope that you remember me yes! Yes! Yes! That's who he wanted, babe.
and if the night is burning i will cover my eyes with that shadow upon the ground i hear my people screaming out and i see fire oh, you know, i saw a city burning and i see fire and i hope that you'll remember me [ cheers and applause .]
Ha! Yes! Oh, my god! Wow! Wow.
You guys I Screwed up so badly.
I-i so -- i so did.
In the history of "the voice" screwing-up-badly files, You guys screwed I totally agree that i screwed up.
The pooch.
What is your name? Uh, my name is chance peña.
I'm 15 years old, and i'm from tyler, texas.
Oh, my gosh! What?! He looks like the cover of, like, In one of those clothing catalogs.
Well, thank you.
That's what he looks like right now, man.
Oh, i'm so excited, man.
When i turned around and saw you sing, The thing that these -- these guys didn't see Was the emotion.
I was so drawn in.
I couldn't believe that these guys weren't turning around.
Everything about the performance, i loved.
That's why this makes no sense that i didn't press.
What's gonna happen is adam sometimes gets really dumb [ laughter .]
For the battles, i'll just steal you.
I'll just steal you, okay? Okay.
[ applause .]
You gave a flawless performance.
And it's voices like yours that are, like, completely different, Doesn't sound like anything else.
I just didn't think that i would even have a shot.
There are artists that come up here where i'm like, "they're never gonna pick me.
" But i got to tell you, Man, i'm so happy that you're on the show.
Where do you sing at? You're 15? You sound like you do this.
I sing at bars and restaurants And barbecue joints around my hometown.
They let you into the bars? Yes, sir.
Now they won't.
[ laughter .]
That voice can get you into any doors, my friend.
Yes, sir.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Man, i don't even know how this happened, chance, But let's not worry about the past.
Let's just celebrate our future together.
And welcome to team adam.
Thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
Wow, man.
That was awesome, dude.
Thanks.
Awesome.
Thank you.
I'm so happy to have you, bro.
Me too.
Thank you.
Awesome.
Wow.
You are talented.
-Thank you very much.
-Can't wait.
Look forward to seeing all y'all soon.
Gwen: I blew that one.
That's another one that got away, And i will definitely be looking for a steal.
But i think adam's a little too smart.
He won't let him go.
We'll see.
You never know.
Yeah! Yeah! [ laughs .]
you made it! Oh, dude, i'm so proud of you.
I'm so proud of you, buddy.
Adam's what i had in mind when i was going in.
When he turned, i was like, "yes! I don't even have to choose!" [ laughs .]
[ speaking indistinctly .]
Can you believe you turned around and that's what you saw? I thought that was gonna be, like, a 35-year-old man.
No, that is, like, totally "adam levine, please take me to the #1.
" When you turn around, though, And you see that guy singing that song, you're like, "oh.
" That's how i felt.
I was like When i saw how you were sitting there, going I knew it.
I knew you were doing that, adam.
I know you now.
Dude, he's amazing.
Wow.
Daly: Coming up, An artist has the guys pulling out all the stops If i was a bettin' man, right now i'd say, "man, that dude's gonna be in the finale.
" You can win this entire thing.
Daly: And gwen takes matters into her own hands.
I'm the only girl up here, So that means i have double powers.
Don't be seduced by that.
this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Let's meet our next artist, Who's come halfway around the world to audition.
Viktor: Hi.
My name is viktor király.
I'm 31 years old.
I was born in new york, But now i'm living in budapest, hungary.
My parents, They were both professional musicians in budapest.
My father was a drummer, And my mother was a backup vocal singer.
They got married, And next day they flew out to new york for their honeymoon.
Daddy, you want, uh, tomato soup? Their honeymoon was basically a very long honeymoon.
We stay almost 20 years.
And we were not in the music anymore.
We were doing regular life.
Bon appétit.
Viktor: Living in new york, My mother was diagnosed with severe cancer.
So, the doctor didn't give her a chance to survive.
And she really wanted to come back to her mother country.
She was homesick.
So when i was 16 years old, The whole family packed their bags, And straightaway we moved to budapest, hungary.
It was a great decision, Because my mother's now 100% healthy.
So we're very grateful.
Where's music kind of come into play here? As all smaller children want to be like their fathers, I would always pick up the drumsticks.
And i was in garage bands with my twin brother.
He played rhythm guitar.
There was this one practice where the singer got sick, And, uh, the bass player was like, "you're the singer.
" When i realized that i wanted to do music, People didn't really want to accept the fact That i was singing in english.
But my problem was i can't sing in hungarian.
[ laughs .]
The most difficult part of my change to hungary was It was a different country, speaking a different language.
Wherever i went, i was always rejected.
That was quite a bad time for me.
And the first time i wasn't rejected Was a talent show in hungary.
And since then, i walk down the street and people say, "hey, viktor, take a picture with me.
" Or i go into a gas station, and in the tabloid sections, I see magazines with me smiling on it.
I am totally grateful for what i've achieved.
Now, here's the thing.
I want to find my way back home.
That's also a dicey proposition, Because you could just be happy With being a successful singer Right.
Very good.
In hungary.
Nothing wrong with that.
You come here and don't get a chair to turn, Now you're jeopardizing what you've worked hard for.
Right.
It's a risk.
"the voice" can give me that recognition That i'm searching for here in america.
I've experienced it in a smaller portion in hungary.
But this show, you can't compare it to anything else.
I mean, it's huge.
I'm a huge fan of "the voice" because it's positive.
If a chair turns, My first choice would be pharrell.
Pharrell is such a respected and huge music producer, And his stage presence also is magnificent.
He could really teach me How to be very sure of myself onstage.
Even though i've reached a lot of goals in hungary, America is the land of the dreams.
So, if i don't at least try to make it happen in america, I'm not gonna feel like i'm complete.
Dazzle me.
There he is.
Let's go, viktor! Oh.
Come on, come on, come on, come on.
Viktor! Come on, buddy.
[ exhales sharply .]
oooh, ooh, ooh mother, mother there's too many of you crying [ cheers and applause .]
bther, brother, brother Yeah! [ laughs .]
that was fast! there's far too many of you dying you know we've got to find a way [ rhythmic clapping .]
to bring some lovin' here today, yeah father, father, father we don't need to escalate whoa war is not the answer 'cause only love can conquer hate you know we got to find a way to bring some lovin', lovin' here today picket lines [ laughs .]
the picket signs don't punish me with brutality, yeah i said talk to me, you will see what's going on yeah, yeah [ cheers and applause .]
what's going on hey, now! Yeah! What'soing on nna know oh, yeah damn it.
what's going on [ cheers and applause .]
[ laughs .]
Congratulations.
Thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
That guy is white.
[ laughs .]
he's white! This show is so weird.
I'm sorry.
What -- what -- what did you say? I can't hear you.
I'm still clapping.
[ cheers and applause continue .]
[ laughs .]
-Nice to meet you.
-Don't be seduced by that.
Nice to meet you.
I'm the only girl -- i'm the only girl up here, So that means i have double powers, okay? Just letting you know that, okay? [ laughs .]
Just -- really just wanted to let you know that.
Thank you so much.
What's your name, sir? My name is viktor.
What made you sing The donny hathaway version? Really good ear.
Um Oh, man.
Damn.
Oh, come on.
[ laughter .]
It can't be that easy, man.
I have been in love with donny hathaway's music Since i was a small kid.
I actually have a tattoo on my back of "song for you," The first five lines.
Wow.
Whoa.
Wow.
Blake: I thought he was gonna say the face.
I was gonna be like, "whoa-ho!" [ laughter .]
Where are you from? I was born in new york.
Okay.
And then we moved to budapest, hungary.
Wow.
Amazing.
Amazing.
[ cheers and applause .]
Adam: Listen, man.
I was trying to have a poker face, And then they just saw right through me, And they turned around anyway.
Which they should've done, 'cause you're absolutely phenomenal.
Mm-hmm.
I am "hungry.
" [hungary.]
[ laughter .]
I want more than anything To have somebody that's gonna take this the distance.
And, yes, i've won the show before.
Blah, blah, blah.
I don't brag about it as much as certain other people.
Blake.
Well, 'cause you haven't won as much as i have.
You're right.
You've won more than i have.
But i will say this.
Twice as much.
Twice as much.
Is that i want to win -- [ laughter .]
um When it's that big a surprise, you're thinking to yourself, "wow, man, this is a true original.
" And i pressed my button early, but i didn't care.
And then these other three problems came into my life.
[ laughter .]
But i'll tell you right now, You can win this entire thing.
Wow.
[ cheers and applause .]
100%.
Do you perform a lot? Um, i'm in a very lucky situation, 'cause back in hungary, Um, i have a few singles that are on the radio.
Man, it's just your voice is so seasoned.
And i think adam's right.
If i was a bettin' man, right now i would say, "man, that dude's gonna be standing up there In the finale having a shot at this thing.
" And i think the headline will be, like, "the 'viktor' of 'the voice.
'" [victor.]
[ laughter .]
Dude, i may not be The obvious choice to you Definitely not.
[ laughter .]
But you're a phenomenal singer, dude.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Yeah.
[ cheers and applause .]
Pharrell: Man.
You're different.
And i think that's what matters the most.
Not only do you have a good voice, But we could feel your personality.
Thank you.
Thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
Your voice is so unbelievably beautiful.
You have so much control.
And the dynamics that you have in your voice, It's just so rich-sounding.
You already have the talent.
You have the vibe, the personality.
But what kind of music would you want to make? Um Country.
Gwen: [ laughs .]
maybe.
Maybe.
I actually love country music, so All right.
All right.
Um, i mean, I-i would love to have a soul record.
Wow.
I mean, i think -- I think it would be great.
And just a little touch Of popular music.
Adam: Yeah.
Wow.
[ cheers and applause .]
When you talk to me about having some success, It's nice to think of, Wow, you're gonna possibly be that everywhere.
And i turned around, it was like, "oh, this dude wins.
" Thank you very much.
Thank you.
All right, dude.
Ugh.
You got to pick one of us.
Please.
Please, ah.
[ audience shouting .]
Okay, so, first of all, it's an honor to be here, so -- And i know all of you are great choices.
[ shouting continues .]
Um this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back.
Before the break, Viktor király gave an impressive performance, Getting all four coaches to push their buttons.
what's going on? Now viktor has the tough decision of picking his coach.
Please.
Please, ah.
[ audience shouting .]
Okay, so, first of all, it's an honor to be here, so -- And all of you are great choices.
[ shouting continues .]
Um I'm gonna pick adam.
go big or go home [ cheers and applause .]
go big or go home yeah, yeah go big or go home [ laughs .]
thank you so much.
I'm shocked.
Whoo! I am very lucky to have gotten viktor.
We're gonna kill it.
Kill it! The dude is a professional, and he's really talented.
I've had some big victories already this season, So i feel like it's gonna be exciting and fun To work with these guys, and that's a good feeling.
Whoo! Good luck to you, man.
Right now, this is the most incredible moment in my life.
I am one step closer to getting known in america, And i hope they'll want to hear me more and more.
Where's the rubbing it in? Let us have it.
That dude is crazy.
Blake: Adam is still up to his old tricks.
I'm mad i didn't get viktor, because, uh, He's a guy that you can almost guarantee Is gonna go deep into this competition.
Right now he's the one.
His voice is so beautiful.
The fact that he's over in hungary singing like that, That's another level.
His hair's too high, anyway.
Hey! You made it look easy.
Congratulations, viktor.
Thank you, guys.
I was sure you were gonna pick pharrell.
Adam was so psyched about working with me, So i just had to choose adam.
Welcome.
Thank you.
Congratulations, man.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Get ready for the battle rounds, all right? Yeah! [ chuckles .]
I thought he was gonna pick you.
Adam: When he said pop, I thought i had a chance.
He said soul.
He said -- yeah, but he said Gwen: No, he said soul with a -- yeah.
With a hint of pop.
He's the king of that.
Oof! Daly: While adam celebrates, let's meet our next artist, 18-year-old georgia native julie broadus.
Growing up, i moved around a lot due to my dad's job.
He was in the army.
Moving around definitely helped me adjust With different social situations, Meeting new friends at different schools.
I consider myself kind of an academic nerd.
I took 13 a.
P.
Classes in high school.
I made all a's, except one "b.
" I made one "b" in my last class senior year.
I definitely don't want anything less than the four-chair turn, 'cause that would just be like my one "b" in high school, Not having all the four chairs turned.
[ giggles .]
I recently was accepted to georgia tech, And i am planning to study biomedical engineering.
But i have all my life to go to college, And this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
So i'm just going for it.
As a mom, i believe julie has what it takes To turn every chair around.
[ voice breaking .]
i couldn't be more proud.
Sorry.
I'm not really all academics.
I started singing, really, in 8th grade.
All my friends were taking a chorus class.
Thought it would be a fun extracurricular thing.
And at the end of my class, my teacher picked me for a solo.
Since then, i've posted youtube videos.
But singing in front of these superstars Is definitely going to be a lot different Than singing in my little bedroom, recording by myself.
Having no vocal coaching, My range is pretty limited, And "the voice" would help me expand on my ability.
Right now, i am freaking out inside, But i'm gonna try to just sing to the crowd, And sing for myself.
Deep breath.
Nice and easy.
i rode my bicycle past your window last night i roller skated to your door at daylight it almost seems like you're avoiding me i'm okay alone, but you got something i need well, i got a brand new pair of roller skates you got a brand new key i asked your mother if you were at home she said yes, but you weren't alone oh, sometimes i think that you're avoiding me i'm okay alone, but you've got something i need well, i got a brand new pair of roller skates you got a brand new ke-e-e-ey [ cheers and applause .]
She did great.
We're so proud of you, baby.
Whoa.
Oh! I wanted to turn and, like, peek so bad.
Because you have such an interesting, fun, Characterful voice, and i love that song so much.
What made you pick that song? I'm originally indie-alternative, But since that had a folk flair, I thought it just added a little uniqueness to what i already do.
Good idea.
Yeah, it's a good -- i love that you did that song.
Yeah.
I've never heard anyone do that song.
Oh, thank you.
What's your name, by the way? Julie broadus.
Julie, you know, There were some moments i thought could've been, Maybe, a tad more controlled.
Okay.
But the good was really good.
And -- and i thought it was a brave And cool choice.
And i really applaud.
Thank you.
[ applause .]
Adam's right.
I mean, there was things, But that's what drew me to your voice, was there's a -- There's a rawness to it, And a vintage sound to your voice.
And maybe it's just that song, but i think it's even more -- More than that.
I think you're great.
You should come back.
Yeah.
I know i would recognize Your voice again.
Yes.
For sure.
Thank you so much.
[ cheers and applause .]
Even though i didn't get a chair to turn, This journey and experience, It's been amazing.
I'm not going to give up.
This is just the beginning.
So, i'm ready for whatever happens next.
Go, julie! You did awesome, honey! Oh, my Well done.
The artist that you pick, they got to have heart.
That's -- you know, that's the sign of a true artist.
Yeah, yeah.
My strategy at this point is to hear a singer That just connects with my heart.
They don't have to be the best technical singer on the planet.
I just want somebody to move me.
Daly: Coming up, gwen uses her charm to beat the guys Were you singing, like, right to my face the entire time? That is against the rules, what you're doing right now.
Ohh! I'm not! Daly: And things get heated.
Oh! [ laughs .]
Daly: And later, with a few spots left, The singers give it their all to impress our coaches.
[ cheers and applause .]
Gwen: You took a song, And we heard it in a whole different way.
There is something special about you two.
I'm happy that this show has this kind of talent.
this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back to night four of the blind auditions.
Our next artist has endured a lot to reach the "voice" stage.
My name's cole criske.
I'm 16 years old, and i'm from temecula, california.
I actually met xenia from season one.
She's also from temecula.
Seeing someone local like that do shows around the country Was really a great inspiration.
You know, if she can do it, then i can -- i can do it, too.
Exciting.
My first memories of music were singing at the church.
everything i am My mom has some actually pretty embarrassing videos.
everything i'll be When i was 8 years old, we went on this family trip to hawaii, And that's where my dad gave me a ukulele.
I really connected with the instrument well.
So, my dad was the first person To kind of introduce me to music.
Haylie: My dad and cole were best friends.
Lynnette: Yeah.
Even as a little boy, him and my dad were so close.
It was june 2009.
I was 10 years old.
We got a call that said That my dad had been hit by a drunk driver.
Probably one of the hardest things, um, I've ever had to do is tell my kids that their dad passed.
[ sniffles .]
That was the day before father's day, and, um One of the hardest things was seeing the, um -- The father's day presents that we'd made my dad.
Sorry.
[ sniffles, sighs .]
I really learned just how precious Our time on this earth is, And how important it is to just make the most Of what you've got.
And after that, i kind of found music as, like, an outlet.
It really just became, like, a main focus for me.
Dad would've been really proud of you, cole.
He always was.
When i was a freshman in high school, I really just started focusing on writing songs.
And i want to pursue music as a career.
I've been playing, um, old town temecula for a while, At some local wineries.
But it's really hard to actually be heard and be noticed As an artist, so just being here is incredible.
For my blind audition, I'll be singing "dreaming with a broken heart" by john mayer.
After my dad passed away, It was the first song i listened to that day.
I just felt like lying down and crying forever.
I have to go to some dark memories in my life In order to put this song into the hearts of the listeners.
If a chair turned for me today, I would know that there's someone Who constantly sees talent, and they find me unique.
I'm gonna put my heart and soul into my song, Give every chance that i have to turn a chair.
[ clears throat .]
when you're dreaming with a broken heart [ cheers and applause .]
the waking up is the hardest part you roll outta bed and down on your knees and for a moment you can hardly breathe Yes! wondering could you stay, my love? will you wake up by my side? no, you won't 'cause you're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone [ cheers and applause .]
i'mma gone.
now, do i Whoo! now, do i have to fall asleep with roses in my, roses in my hand? would you get them if i did? no, you won't 'cause you're gone, gone, gone gone gone [ cheers and applause .]
Wow.
What -- what's your name? I'm cole criske.
How old are you, first of all? I'm 16.
Oof.
What?! [ cheers and applause .]
I will say, your natural ability to sing in absolutely, Flawlessly perfect pitch, it's astonishing.
Thank you.
That's a god-given talent.
I am -- i'm blown away, cole.
[ applause .]
Gwen: Hi, cole.
Hi.
Were you singing, like, Right to my face the entire time? And the fact that you're 16, And that you could lock eyes with me and be that brave [ laughter .]
That is against the rules, what you're doing right now.
I'm not doing -- You're out of bounds.
Foul.
Adam: Cole, i think you're -- Foul Cole.
At the spot of the pitch.
I think your decision is clear, my friend.
[ laughter .]
The reason i turned was i heard this honest voice That was taking the lyrics of this song And making you believe that it was about your life.
And then when i turned around and i saw how young you were, I want to say thank you for locking eyes with me, But -- but not -- That is undefensible.
[ laughs .]
Cole.
Cole.
Cole.
Cole.
Stop it.
There's no defense for that.
But i'm saying -- be smart about this.
I want you on team gwen! Why do you need to hear from those dudes? Welcome to team gwen.
[ laughs .]
[ cheers and applause .]
I think you did a splendid job.
Obviously all of us would love a shot to work with you.
Gwen has made an unquestionable connection with you.
[ laughter .]
But where are you from, And how long you been singing, and? I'm from temecula, california, and i've been -- [ cheers and applause .]
I've pretty much been singing all my life.
But, um, i kind of took up music, Uh, shortly after my dad passed away, so Wow.
Gwen: Cole, i just want to say one more thing to you About music and -- and tragedy.
I'm with you.
I-i wrote every single song off of "the tragic kingdom" Out of tragedy for me.
And it's given me the most incredible life journey Since then, so I just wanted to share that with you.
[ applause .]
Blake: Hey, cole.
There is nothing suckier than being at the end Of these pitches, and all the good stuff Has already been said to you.
But that's all i have, so here it goes.
I had a contestant on my team Season one of "the voice" named xenia, who's from -- Okay.
Thank god i got a smile out of that.
I've met xenia.
Okay.
She has recorded with me on one of my albums.
She's a friend.
I still support her today.
If we make a friendship, it's a friendship.
Also, i've won this show four times.
[ cheers and applause .]
And i really enjoy the balloon festival That they have in temecula every year.
Yeah.
[ cheers and applause .]
Compelling.
All right, cole.
Who do you pick as your coach? Whew Come on, cole! Come on! [ audience shouting .]
Oh, ho! Come home! I pick blake.
Yeah! hold back the river, let me look in your eyes hold back the river yes! so i can stop for a minute [ laughs .]
and be by your side hold back the river Cole has a lot of emotion, and has an amazing voice.
It's so warm, and it's so accomplished-sounding.
But yet he's so young.
He's 16 years old.
And i love him because he's from temecula, And that's where they make really good wine.
[ laughing .]
I'm so sorry.
I love you so much.
I know.
I love you more.
Gwen: Cole was a disappointment.
I felt like we had some kind of connection.
But he's really cute.
I can't wait to see what he does.
I hate you -- hate.
[ laughs .]
[ laughter .]
yeah! What she said.
That's only temporary.
You can throw shoes at him all day.
I love it.
Hi.
Hi.
Oh, my god.
Cole: I chose blake because he knows my hometown, He's been with xenia.
I'm not country, But i feel like we could work together really well.
We're really proud of him.
And i know his dad would've been really proud.
Gwen: He's good.
Pharrell: He was real good.
He was so emotional.
Adam: He was awesome.
He was real good.
[ southern accent.]
"xenia's from temecula, And so are you.
[ laughter .]
So, uh, you were great.
The balloon show in temecula" [ normal voice .]
how could he have possibly resisted The seductive allure of that pitch? [ laughter .]
Why did he pick you, blake? He's 16.
Kids like balloons.
Come on.
[ laughter .]
Daly: Still to come, An artist who put family first.
Right after high school, i found out that i was pregnant.
I had to grow up.
Singing as a career was kind of put on the back burner.
Gets a second chance.
perfect man for me You just kept punching it Because it really meant something to you.
Adam: You know, a couple notes in there, I didn't even know human beings could hit.
[ cheers and applause .]
this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back.
Let's meet this next artist, Who's looking for a fresh start to her music career.
My name is alex kandel.
I'm 22, and i live in nashville.
Thank you.
Do you like -- When i moved to nashville a few months ago From bowling green, kentucky, where i grew up, I was kind of figuring out what i want to do.
And i love kids, so i decided to become a nanny.
awooo The kids and i, we sing together all the time When we're drawing and playing And, like, running around the house.
Alex and i do sing "riptide.
" "track six" we like to call it.
runnin' down to the riptide As much as i love being a nanny, Being a musician is my true passion.
Are you excited? Yeah.
When i was 15, i had my first show ever, At a coffee shop, opening up for another local band Called sleeper agent.
And a year later, tony from sleeper agent Approached me about joining the band as lead singer.
And i did it.
[ laughs .]
when you come down, i'll be there when you come down, we'll play fair i'm not cold We were a pretty high-energy band.
A lot of hair being thrown in different places.
i'm not cold, i'm just a-shaking and a little of your love We got to do david letterman, Jimmy fallon, coachella and other festivals.
It was just an all-around amazing experience.
But we kind of hit this plateau, And so we all decided to part ways and explore other things.
So, the band's time off -- where are you now? You want to just do the solo thing? Alex: Yeah.
I've enjoyed not living in a van, But, uh, i miss it so much.
[ laughs .]
Yeah.
Miss being on stage.
Like, i miss being in the studio, I miss being able to nitpick, and pick apart a song.
And, like, that's why this show's, like, amazing.
A coach could help me the most just be teaching me To be my own artist and stand on my own.
The chapter of my life that included sleeper agent is over, And so if chairs don't turn today, It's like i'm starting from zero.
She looks perfect.
Yeah.
well, i think the universe is on my side heaven and earth have finally aligned days are good and that's the way it should be you make me sing oo-oo-ooh, la, la, la you make a girl go oo-oo-ooh i'm in love, love did you see that shooting star tonight? were you dazzled by the same constellation? [ squealing .]
Oh, my god, dude! Whoo! did you and jupiter conspire to get me? i think you and the moon and neptune got it right 'cause now i'm shining bright so bright tonight [ cheers and applause .]
[ squeals .]
Ah.
Wait, did you turn? Yeah.
Oh.
[ laughs .]
I didn't even see you.
[ high-pitched .]
oh.
[ laughs .]
wow.
What's your name? My name's alex.
I'm 22.
I live in nashville.
Nice.
I turned right away because I felt like you had a lot of character in your voice, And i like that.
Your personality was Coming right out at me.
Now, i think, as the performance went on, I'll be honest, there was so much weird tuning issues.
Did you get nervous when i turned around? I've been touring with my band since i was 15, 16.
Oh, okay.
So this is my first time without them next to me.
And i didn't think i would miss them as much as i did, Aww.
So, this is like My first time, like Aww.
Trying to be myself, andYeah.
Yeah.
[ applause .]
Wow.
What kind of music do you really want to do? I was in an alternative rock band.
You know, we played coachella.
And, actually, i saw adam at a party at coachella one time.
[ laughter .]
What? You assume, like, that's a bad thing? Like, say it like that? God.
[ laughs .]
Wow.
I don't remember, which is not a good thing.
[ laughs .]
Okay.
I feel like i have experience Being in a band with all guys, And touring and doing exactly the same thing that you've done.
But i also had a whole period where i made dance music And did my own thing.
I've been through all that, So that's something i feel like I could definitely help you with.
And also, i feel like i was in kind of, like, A cocoon for a while, and now i'm about ready to bust out.
So i fell really excited about sharing that energy That i have right now with someone like you.
Yes.
[ laughs .]
Sounds a-- that sounds amazing.
[ applause .]
[ laughs .]
It was great seeing you at that party.
I had a wonderful time.
[ laughs .]
Listen, i think that you start off really super strong, And when it fell off, it seems like it just needs, Like, little tweaks.
Yeah.
I'm sure you believe that you can do even better.
Yeah.
So, fantastic job, alex.
Yeah.
Thank you so much.
[ cheers and applause .]
alex, Who do you pick as your coach? [ audience shouting .]
Yes.
Well, um I pick gwen.
[ chuckles .]
Yay! [ cheers and applause .]
Yay! Yeah! [ squeals .]
Excited! I'm so excited.
I like the idea that she's already toured, And has experience, and has been in an alternative band.
There's lots of things that i can connect with her on.
It's gonna be fun.
Congratulations.
[ cheers and applause .]
Alex: I'm a huge fan of gwen.
She's my idol from when i was, like, this tall.
Just, like, was excited about me, And so i'm really excited about everything.
Adam: Well played, stefani.
[ laughs .]
Well played.
Daly: You can listen to full versions Of tonight's blind audition songs on apple music what life looks like from up above and down below Or buy them on itunes.
do i have to fall asleep with roses in my roses in my hands? Coming up, a twin duo puts everything on the line Alex: I do feel like this is our last big shot together.
And our coaches are blown away.
[ cheers and applause .]
[ laughs .]
that's so incredible.
You guys are one of the most in-sync duos i've ever heard.
I'm the only person that has taken a duo to the finale.
Not this time, though.
this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back.
As night four of the blind auditions nears an end, Here's how our coaches' teams stack up.
[ cheers and applause .]
Pharrell picked up r&b singer darius scott Gwen has added indie artist korin bukowski And alternative rocker alex kandel Adam won over indie folk singer chance peña And pop r&b vocalist viktor király.
All right! And blake strengthened his team With country artist krista hughes And pop singer cole criske With only a few spots remaining, our coaches grew more selective, And these next artists didn't have what they were looking for.
hit the road, jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more The tuning things were the reasons That i didn't hit my button.
It's a big commitment to hit this button, And you want to be absolutely sure about it when you do it.
Thank you guys for listening.
Come on! lovin' is what i got i said, "remember that" lovin' is what i got Today was a little bit of both right and wrong for you.
I can tell how eager you are, And i see a piece of myself there.
Don't insult the kid.
[ laughter .]
keep moving forward.
Thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
see beneath your beautiful tonight If you could just work on the way you transition, And making sure the tune is, like, right in the same color, It will make you undeniable.
[ cheers and applause .]
thank you.
Daly: Let's see if our next artist, 27-year-old georgia native celeste betton, Has what it takes to make a team.
My family is a military family.
My parents met in the military, And my baby brother went into the air force.
The military was not the only path.
My parents just wanted you to do whatever it is That you felt your passion was.
My passion is gospel music.
I started singing in the youth choir about the age of 7.
That's when i realized that "i like to do this, And this is a part of who i am.
" But it kind of all came to a halt.
Right after high school, i found out that i was pregnant.
I knew that it was no longer about me.
This beautiful baby girl, she is my everything.
[ voice breaking .]
she really changed my life, And i am who i am today because i had to grow up and be a mom.
After i had my daughter, Singing as a career was kind of put on the back burner.
So i made the decision to attend troy university, And i graduated from there with my bachelor's in english.
I really tried to prove to myself, And to be an example to her that, "hey," you know, "you can always find a way.
Mama did it.
You can do it, too.
" While going to school, I was singing in a church in fort drum, new york, Where i met my husband.
You're in the military, as well? Yes, sir.
Okay.
Excellent.
Thank you.
That's my man.
That's my soldier.
What do you think about celeste's opportunity here? I think it's phenomenal.
She always supports everything That i do as far as in the military and everything, So it's an honor to be able to support her.
Celeste: For my blind audition, I'll be singing "love you i do" by jennifer hudson.
It's a fun song, And it's gonna show the coaches A full scope of who i am and what i do as an artist.
You know, how many people can say that "i tossed around ideas with pharrell," or gwen stefani.
That's an amazing opportunity.
I believe that this is my time.
To be this close, like, i can almost touch it.
Send a duo.
Send us a duo.
Come on.
There go mommy.
Sing, celeste.
All right.
Sing, baby.
never met a man quite like you doing all you can, oh making my dreams come true you're strong and you're smart you've taken my heart and i'll give you the rest of me, too you're the perfect man for me i love you i do i know you're the best you passed every test you're almost too good to be true oh, perfect man for me Come on, come on, come on! Push it! Come on, pharrell! Come on! i love you i do [ cheers and applause .]
yeah! Yeah! you're the perfect man for me-e-e-e-e-e-e i love you i do-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o [ cheers and applause .]
Whoo-hoo-hoo! Say, "yay, mommy!" Yay, mommy! Yay! Yay, mommy! What's your name? Celeste betton.
I thought a lot of that was fantastic.
Especially the big high notes.
I mean, there were a couple notes in there I didn't even know human beings could hit.
[ laughter .]
I loved your tone, And i loved how soft you got, And then how you kind of could belt out.
And i love that energy that you have, And i can't wait to see what you do, 'cause i think you're gonna be a really hard worker.
So congratulations.
Thank you.
Your performance wasn't perfect, But, man, it was full of heart.
And that's what connects with this guy right here, And i was glad that he let that overwhelm him And push his button.
He is going to pull perfect performances out of you, And that's gonna be fun to watch.
[ cheers and applause .]
Thank you.
How are you? I'm good.
Great.
Amazing.
[ laughter .]
You are great and amazing.
I'll just tell you something.
I do have some soulful singers On my team already, and i almost didn't push.
But after a while, i began to realize That you're singing because it really meant something to you.
And you just kept punching it, And i couldn't not hit my button.
I had to reward all of that ambition on the stage.
I'm happy to have you on my team.
Thank you.
[ cheers and applause .]
Yeah! Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Pharrell: She's so heartfelt and soulful.
She was able to communicate a feeling for this moment.
It needed to happen for her.
[ all cheering .]
Celeste: I'm grateful to pharrell for hearing Something in me and taking a chance.
With everything that i've had to -- to kind of go through Up until this point, it's all worth it, because i'm here now.
Yeah.
That's right.
I'm here now.
You got an amazing team.
I'm super pumped.
Daly: Coming up, the performance of the night the best day of my life That brings adam to his knees I'm astonished at how good that was.
And leaves our coaches begging for more.
Please.
Please.
this is "the voice" Daly: Welcome back.
The final act of the night is ready to show our coaches That two is better than one.
We're andi And alexWait.
Is that what you want? [ laughs .]
[ both laugh .]
Hi.
We're andi And alex.
And we're both 23 years old.
And we live in green bay, wisconsin.
We're twins, and life is awesome as a twin.
[ laughs .]
It rocks.
You always got a friend here.
Growing up, we were definitely always together, Definitely finishing each other's sentences And stuff like that.
Yeah.
The easiest way to tell us apart would be That i have a nose ring.
I have a little bit longer hair.
Yeah.
UmThat's pretty much it.
I guess.
[ both laugh .]
Our parents met in a country band.
So we grew up seeing my mom perform in the band, Which was really cool.
Mom definitely pulled us up on stage.
Yeah.
I got to sing "blue" by leann rimes.
Alex just, like, hid underneath, like, her jacket.
So I was so embarrassed for you.
When we were 5, our mom taught us our first harmony line, And it came super naturally.
And we've been doing harmony ever since.
Andi and alex have actually been singing since, I think, they could speak.
There's something very magical That happens when they sing together.
Andi: After high school, alex and i decided That we wanted to make a band called chew the monster.
And the type of musis Alternative, indie, folk.
We spent all of our time writing and recording an album.
It was a lot of fun.
It was hectic, but fun.
Yeah.
Unfortunately, our band ended around summer of last year.
Currently, right now, I'm just working a part-time job at a jewelry shop.
I mean, i love piercing ears, right, But i would just love just to focus all my attention on music.
The same with me.
Like, i work with children, And i love children, but music is everything, Especially doing it with her.
I think doing "the voice" now is so important, Especially since i got married to my husband chris.
We're gonna be probably having children soon.
And her boyfriend lives in vancouver, So we're just gonna be split up.
Unless something big happens, that's kind of where we'll go.
I do feel like this is kind of our last big shot.
A coach could definitely help us with stage presence.
Also, just helping develop our vocal strength.
If this is what we're meant to do, Then i think it will be great.
Oh, my gosh.
[ guitar playing my tea's gone cold, i'm wondering why i got out of bed at all the morning rain clouds up my window Ohh! and i can't see at all and even if i could [ cheers and applause .]
it'd all be gray There they go! That's that! They're two! but your picture on my wall it reminds me that it's not so bad, not so bad i drank too much last night, got bills to pay my head just feels in pain i missed the bus and there'll be hell today i'm late for work again and even if i'm there, they'll all imply that i might not last the day nice! Four chairs! and then you call me and it's not so bad not so bad i want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life Wow.
is having the best day of my life mmmmm [ cheers and applause .]
[ laughs .]
Look! Yes! They're standing! Wow.
That is so amazing.
Wow.
And refreshing.
Both: Thank you.
What are your guys' names? We're andi and alex.
Are you guys sisters? We're twins.
Oh, my god.
[ laughter .]
Yeah.
I mean, there's so much that's incredible About what we just heard.
Whether you guys were in unison or in harmony, It was just so unbelievably thoughtful.
You can hear each of you being compassionate To the other vocally.
That's kind of lightning in a bottle.
I'm gonna keep fighting as hard as i can for you guys, Because i think you guys are one of the most Perfectly fitting duos i've ever heard.
I'm astonished at how good that was.
[ cheers and applause .]
Oh, my god.
Thank you so much.
[ laughs .]
Remember that in, like, 2.
5 minutes.
[ laughter .]
Where are you guys from? Green bay, wisconsin.
Oh, blake's not a packers fan, by the way.
Just for the record.
Wow, uh Both: Ohhhh.
[ laughter .]
That could be a big problem, right? It is problematic, yes.
[ laughs .]
Hah! In a duo, you're only as good as the weakest person.
But with you two, oh, my god.
That performance right there truly was phenomenal.
Thank you so much.
And i'm the only person that has taken a duo to the finale.
And it's freaking hard.
[ cheers and applause .]
I'm not gonna lie to y'all, man.
Okay.
Duos have a tougher time on this show, Because one person may have a good night, And the other, maybe not, you know what i mean? Not this time, though.
There's something -- But he's right.
There is something Mm-hmm.
Different and special about you two That i want to take y'all to the finale.
[ cheers and applause .]
Thank you so much.
Oh, my gosh.
Obviously that arrangement just came from you guys, right? You're super creative, And you just live in each other's brains? Yeah.
Yes.
Yeah, i guess so.
[ laughs .]
For me, i think what was really magical about it Was you took a song, And we heard it in a whole different way.
And that's just so incredible.
That's something i've done, i feel like, my whole life, Is just trying to find a different lane.
And that's why i would love to work with you.
I think we would be an amazing team.
[ applause .]
Oh, my gosh.
I'm happy that this show Has this kind of talent coming up here.
I probably seem like the super odd one out, And we have nothing in common, But the last season, sawyer fredericks, Who is a folk singer, he actually won.
Yeah.
And he won not because of me.
He won because he was able to do what it is he wanted to do, And the way he wanted to do it.
And that's what i would offer you.
E.
So, if i were given the opportunity To work with you guys, i would consider it yet another lesson.
Oh, my gosh.
It's just so overwhelming.
[ cheers and applause .]
To me, song choice is so crucial.
I know that that's my strong point as a coach, Finding the right song and the right moment.
All that stuff is -- like, that's what this show is.
I've been doing it for a long time, And i've gotten really good at it.
Andi and alex, It's time to pick a coach.
[ audience shouting .]
[ rising pitch.]
please, please, please.
[ shouting continues .]
Sorry.
[ laughs .]
[ muffled .]
please.
Please.
Please.
Alex: Okay.
We pick adam.
Yes! [ cheers and applause .]
we're one and the same yes! [ laughing .]
Guys! I'm so happy! I'm so happy.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I will not do you wrong.
I promise.
Awesome.
I promise.
Thank you so much.
It doesn't get better than that.
Some of the best harmonizing i've ever heard in my life.
The king of the four-chair turns is back.
And he's excited.
Wow.
we're one and the same [ exhales sharply .]
We had four chairs turn around.
I don't even know how this happened.
This is insane.
My legs are shaking! As are my hands.
[ all cheering .]
Daly: Yay! Four chairs! [ both laughing .]
We picked adam because it just seemed like He was vibing with us so much.
He's this huge superstar, And i just feel like i can't even believe That this is happening.
All: Team adam! Whoo-hoo! [ laughter .]
[ exhales sharply .]
As much as i hate to admit it, Adam is absolutely on fire this season.
You have so many good singers on your team.
[ laughing .]
i know.
They're great.
I hope he burns up.
