The Voice US (2011) s12e07 Episode Script

Blind Auditions, Part 7

1 Daly: Tonight, the blind auditions come to an end.
[Cheers and applause.]
Give it up for our Season 12 coaches! Alicia needs two artists to complete her team, while Blake, Gwen, and Adam each need one.
For the remaining artists, the stakes couldn't be higher.
Chris: For all I know, there could only be one spot left, so I'm going to sing as if that spot belongs to me.
Easy to trace the tracks of my tears [Cheers and applause.]
Daly: And our coaches will do whatever it takes to complete their teams.
I can bring a country singer all the way to the top.
Yee-haw! I am probably not the guy.
That's not true.
- Oh! - Oh! - See, Blake? Come on, now.
- [Laughs.]
- Over here.
- Why'd you do that? Sorry, I had to re-enter with a little more confidence.
Just It's is making my whole day.
Alicia got really, really lucky.
- Boom! - I'm a dummy.
You're not a dummy.
You're amazing.
[Laughter.]
I don't like puppets.
- Oh, my God! - Whoa! - Please pick me.
- [Laughs.]
Alicia: Please.
Daly: After the final chair turns - My team is full, Blake! - Yeah! Holy moly.
Daly: stay tuned for an exclusive look at next week's heated battles with four of the biggest advisers we've ever had and one of the greatest voices of all time, Céline Dion.
You cannot be good all the time.
You have to be good when it's time.
Mm.
If this mountain tumbles If this whole world crumbles - Yay! - Wow! That was a boxing match posing as a singing competition.
That performance was worthy of any Grammy stage.
Yeah! Daly: The biggest night of the season yet We got a steal! starts right now.
We gonna fill our teams today, you guys? - We're gonna fill them up.
- This is it.
You know, I start to get sad it's gonna be over.
I know we fight, and I know we bicker, but I feel like this is my favorite group.
Boop.
[Laughs.]
Daly: Let's meet the night's first artist.
So proud of you.
This is what I'm gonna do on the stage.
You're not gonna be onstage, thank God.
Please just make sure not to sing any wrong notes, because I know how you do sometimes.
I know you ain't just say that.
[Both laugh.]
Mi, mi, mi My name's Vanessa Ferguson, and I'm from Greensboro, North Carolina.
Oh, miracle I've been performing since I was 3.
I'm 31.
You do the math.
[Chuckles.]
I was born in Brooklyn, New York, raised by my grandmother.
It was myself, my sister, maybe four or five cousins, and we lived in a two-bedroom apartment.
I like to call it the family orphanage.
I don't know a house without her singing in it.
And that's just how our house was growing up.
Everyone walked around dancing, singing, so music is just what we know.
Vanessa: My grandmother put me in piano lessons at 5 years old.
When I was a teenager and Alicia Keys came out, everybody wanted me to sit down, play piano, and sing Alicia Keys.
Baby, I know you're worth it I'm classically trained.
I do classical jazz, little bit of rock, but I do find myself doing more R&B, hip-hop.
My entire life, I've worked very hard at music, did weddings and clubs and parties.
I was just touring with the BB King All Star Band.
It's a group that performs on cruise ships.
We did the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Beijing, China.
But "The Voice" is the only show that can catapult my career.
I'm a little dusty girl from Brooklyn, New York, and I'm gonna sing for some of my favorite artists.
It's amazing.
I never really thought I would get the opportunity, so I'm gonna go on the stage and set it on fire.
You all right? It's all good, no matter what.
Mm, ah Crashing, hit a wall Right now I need a miracle Hurry up, now, I need a miracle Stranded, reachin' out I call your name, but you're not around Whoa.
I say your name, but you're not around I need ya, I need ya, I need you right now Yeah, I need you right now So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down I think I'm losin' my mind now Whoa! It's in my head Come on, come on! Darling, I hope That you'll be here when I need you the most [Sobbing.]
Don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down Don't let me down D-D-Don't let me down Don't let me down Oh Don't let me down, down, down Oh! So, don't let me down, don't let me down It's in my head Darling, I hope that you'll be here when I need you the most Don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down Don't let me do-o-o-o-wn Don't let me do-o-own Oh! So don't let me down Don't let me down, ohh [Cheers and applause.]
Oh! Oh, my God.
Whoo! What's your name? My name is Vanessa Ferguson.
I'm probably not your favorite person right now 'cause I'm [Laughter.]
I'm the only person that didn't turn.
- You're fired.
- And I'm fired.
Oh, God.
Don't even Let's not go there.
Uh, yeah, so you're great, and I love you.
Once these three dorks turned around, I was like, "Now I look stupid.
" er.
[Laughter.]
I'm a dumb dummy.
Aw, you're not a dummy.
You just don't have ears.
[Laughter.]
Yes! - Hi, Vanessa.
- Hi, Blake.
How you doing? Where you from? I'm doing well.
I'm from Greensboro, North Carolina.
It's the home of Wrangler.
Did you know that? - Yes! Yes! - No, I didn't know that.
That's where Wrangler's made.
Yeah, of course.
You knew that? - Yes! - Somebody knew that.
Somebody knew that back there.
Is that your family? - That's my family.
- Yee-haw! [Laughter.]
Little Little connection.
I am probably not the guy that you were thinking, "Man, Blake would be a great coach for me, but " That's not true.
- Oh! - Oh! See, Blake? Come on, now.
Don't say - [Laughs.]
- Over here.
Sorry, I had to re-enter with a little more confidence.
I've never seen you run that fast in your life.
[Laughter.]
Vanessa, for you to step out there and hit that note and hold it for the length of time that you held it out there, that's one of my favorite things about your voice.
- Mine too.
- You know what? I'd love the the chance to work with you.
I'm gonna listen to the things that these two girls are gonna say and then find holes in their argument and then circle back around, drop a little bit of dynamite in there.
[Southern accent.]
Dynamite.
[Laughter, applause.]
Thank you.
Vanessa, it's so great to hear you sing and to vibe with you.
I love your song choice.
I love the way you put your spin on it.
- I'm from New York originally.
- Okay! - Oh, God.
- There you go.
- That's what I'm just saying.
- See? It's over.
Just forget it, guys.
It's not happening.
I can't imagine what I'm gonna discover about you in regards to the other talents that you have, your story, and what you're gonna bring to the world, you know, 'cause that's what it's about, and how they can resonate What do you mean you're gonna discover? Why do you say you're gonna discover? I'm gonna discover.
Well, I'm hoping that I'm going to discover it more than Gwen or Blake.
Ohh.
- Oh! - I just I just have to say you have to speak what you want.
- Right.
- You know what I mean? I'm a big advocate about saying what you want.
Well, I want you to quit talking.
And I would like [Laughter.]
And I would like to help you bring all of you out.
[Cheers and applause.]
Honestly, from the moment the song started, I was in.
I just kept feeling, "Wow.
This person has a lot of confidence.
" And I feel like now you're gonna be in that place where you want to really deliver who you are.
You already have so much going on.
I want to discover more about you.
Thank you.
Who do you pick as your coach? Not Blake.
[Laughs.]
[Audience shouting.]
Vanessa! I pick Alicia.
[Cheers and applause.]
- High five, girl power.
- Surprise! - Well, it's the New York thing.
- I knew it.
Vanessa is a force.
She's a powerful voice.
Oh, my God.
You're real.
She has a mystery about her, a mystique.
You want to know more.
This girl is on fire [Cheers and applause.]
I was about to start singing that song, too.
- That song's so good.
- I know.
Daly: Coming up I got dreams In the dead of night Daly: the final night of the blind auditions Wow! -My team is -Full! -Get over here! Daly: has our coaches going all-in to complete their teams.
You're amazing.
[Laughter.]
I don't like puppets.
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back.
Dawson: If I made it on a team, I think it would be life-changing.
I remember sitting on my couch watching "The Voice" and being like, "Man, how do they get there?" I'm Dawson Coyle, I'm 17 years old, and I'm from Williamstown, New Jersey.
Growing up, it was just me and my parents.
We strengthen each other, and we're all part of a big team.
It's awesome.
I've been homeschooled since third grade, and I attend a co-op on a weekly basis.
Through the co-op, I got started with music.
I took a 10-week guitar lesson program, and I fell in love with it.
It would mean a tremendous amount to see a chair turn around after the year we've had and the things that he's gone through.
This year has definitely been the hardest year of all of our lives.
Me and my parents had a devastating house fire.
I was up at 1:30 a.
m.
, and I heard a noise at the door.
I open the door to find two of the walls of our house completely engulfed in flames.
The fire was actually started by a heat lamp.
One of the cats knocked it over in the middle of the night.
We then proceeded to watch the fire break through the roof of our house.
And it was pretty much a-a total loss.
That was my work.
My home was where I worked.
His music equipment and everything was just gone.
But our church community and our friends, they brought us and replaced all of his sound equipment and I'm very thankful for him being able to be here.
And that's what's so cool, because we're all together.
And we realize that life is precious, and you need to take advantage of every single drop of it.
I will be singing "Happiness" by NEEDTOBREATHE.
The lyrics go, "I've got a homesick heart but a long way left to go.
" I miss my home, but it's still like, you have to keep moving forward.
So when I go up to the mic, the only thing that's gonna be going through my mind is just pouring my heart into my vocals.
- Yeah.
- [Chuckles.]
[Exhales deeply.]
Singin' ohh Happiness Got a homesick heart, but a long way left to go I've been doin' my part, but I ain't got much to show So I'm askin' you to show me some forgiveness It's all for you in my pursuit of happiness I got dreams that keep me up in the dead of night Telling me I wasn't made for the simple life And there's a light I see, but it's far in the distance I'm asking you to show me some forgiveness It's all for you in my pursuit of happiness These days are tough, these days are long Sometimes it's hard, you'll carry on I know a war is raging You gotta choose I got dreams in the dead of night They're telling me the simple life And there's a light I see, but it's far in the distance I'm asking you to show me some forgiveness It's all for you in my pursuit of happiness Oh, happiness Singin' ohh Happiness [Cheers and applause.]
Yeah! - What's your name? - My name is Dawson Coyle.
I'm 17 years old.
- Wow.
- Dude.
I'd like to welcome you to "The Voice.
" You're on Team Ding Dong.
[Laughter.]
Which is awesome, 'cause I'd rather be on Team Ding Dong than no team at all.
You want to be on Team Ding Dong? [Laughter.]
Go to sleep.
Gwen: Can I just say something about that song choice? It says a lot about you to choose a lyric like that, to be so revealing about your heart.
That was cool, really cool.
Thank you so much.
I really appreciate that.
My favorite thing about your voice is how much absolute passion and how much of yourself you pour into your performance, man.
I've only heard you sing one time, but, dude, I believe you.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
- You have a beautiful voice.
- Thank you so much.
- I'm so excited for you.
- Congratulations, man.
[Cheers and applause.]
[Laughs.]
Blake: I needed somebody like that on my team that can appeal to that pop audience, that's a young guy.
Actually, I don't know that I've ever had anybody quite like him.
- Thank you so much.
- Gonna be a lot of fun.
- All right, all right.
- Thanks.
One spot is left on Team Alicia.
I know what I'm looking for, and I'm waiting for, you know, that magic that's on its way to me.
Now my team is full! Yes! [Whooping.]
Do it again! Do it again! Do it again! My team is full! [Cheers and applause.]
That dance should should be against the law.
[Chuckles.]
Daly: Later tonight, don't miss an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming battles.
I need you to look like you're having more fun.
He's having more fun than you right now.
Okay.
Oh, my God! - [Laughs.]
- Wow! - That was incredible! - That was awesome.
- That was cool.
- Bye-bye! [Laughs.]
Céline has left the building.
Daly: But first, Team Adam's and Team Gwen's battle advisers, John Legend and Céline Dion, are giving us an inside look at the music from their latest project, Disney's "Beauty and the Beast.
" I am so honored to be singing an original song for Disney's new "Beauty and the Beast.
" How does a moment last forever? I sang the title track for the original 26 years ago.
It was magical.
Céline did such a beautiful job originally.
I was so excited to do the song with Ariana Grande.
Tale as old as time I love John, and I love Ariana Grande so much.
They did their own thing.
Beauty and the beast The concept of the film is partly about how we look at people who look different from us and how we see underneath that and see the beauty that's inside people.
So, there's a lot of parallels between "The Voice" and "Beauty and the Beast.
" "The Voice" is really all about how great do you sound, how beautiful is your voice.
They're not judging people by the way they look, and I think that's pretty cool.
I can't wait for everyone to see Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" when it hits theaters this Friday.
You're gonna love it.
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Oh, my God.
I only have one more space.
This has been really hard.
I feel nervous right now.
Daly: Let's see if Gwen can find what she's looking for in our next artist.
My name is Jozy Bernadette.
I'm 25 years old, from Grand Forks, North Dakota.
My dad is Glenn Hansen.
He played in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls.
So, did you play basketball, too? Yeah, yeah.
I played all the way out till about high school, and then I kind of realized singing gave me that feeling that nothing else could give me.
My junior year in high school, I did a competition, and I won.
It kind of gave me this, "Maybe I can really do this.
" I think it's fantastic for her to go for a career in music.
You'll never stop and think back, "I wish I would've.
" If you don't try, you'll never know.
Musically, I haven't quite got my footing yet.
I sing in weddings, doing that on the side, as well as working as a creative recruiter helping other people find their dream jobs.
And then I thought, "Hey, why don't you go after your 'dream job'?" My dad instilled in all of us kids work really, really hard, always practice, give it your all, and your dreams really can come true.
[Voice breaking.]
I'm applying this to this situation.
Sorry.
[Laughs.]
For my blind audition, I'm singing "American Woman.
" It shows off my strength, my determination.
I'm ready to soak up the coaches' knowledge.
It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and teams are getting pretty full.
The main thing will be just let it roar and hold nothing back.
Woman: Whoo! American woman Stay away from me American woman Mama, let me be Don't come hangin' 'round my door Don't wanna see your face no more I got more important things to do Than spend my time growing old with you Now, woman Stay away American woman - Come on, come on.
- Come on, Jozy! Come on! Listen what I say Don't come hangin' 'round my door Don't wanna see your face no more I don't need your war machines I don't need your ghetto scenes Colored lights can hypnotize Sparkle someone else's eyes Now, woman Get away American woman Listen what I say I gotta go I gotta get away Babe, I gotta go I wanna fly aw-a-a-a-a-a-a-y I'm gonna leave ya, woman Bye, bye Aw! [Cheers and applause.]
Why'd you do that? I had to.
Whoo! - What's your name? - I'm Jozy Bernadette.
Jozy, I'm gonna tell you about how happy and sad I am, but I'm not sad because of you.
I'm sad because of Gwen.
[Laughter.]
How do you fight against, like, an angel? So, I'm gonna politely fight her for you.
[Laughter.]
I think you have an incredible voice, - incredible, and the power - Thank you.
Thank you.
And I think you're gonna do so well.
Amazing.
I can't believe these guys didn't turn.
But part of me, when I hear "American Woman," I want it to be, like, just raspy things.
- You're saying she can't rock.
- That's not You're saying that she doesn't rock.
No, no.
And I think that you do rock.
To me, Gwen would be a more obvious choice, 'cause she can rock.
You know, she's proof that girls can rock, even though Adam says that girls can't rock.
There's no bias in any of that at all.
Gwen: I think there's things that we can work on to make you stand out.
This is an amazing opportunity to figure out what's unique about you.
That's really the thing that's gonna make you shine.
Like, who are you? - So, I'd love to do that.
- Thank you.
I just wanted to tell you how much I loved your voice, and I wanted to explain to you that I'm looking for a very specific voice right now.
That's the only reason why I didn't turn.
Thank you very much.
Who do you pick as your coach? [Audience shouting.]
Well, thank you both so much.
This is I'm, like, out of my body right now, but Gwen, I pick you, no doubt.
Ow! Whoa! So, so what? I'm still a rock star Wow! I got my rock moves - Hey.
- Wow! Thank you so much.
And I don't need you Jozy has really good technical skills, and I'm excited to work with a rock singer.
Yay, my team is full! My team is full, Blake! Yeah! Daly: Coming up Love your baby girl Daly: the search to find the final two artists heats up.
Oh Holy moly.
Daly: And Alicia pulls out her secret weapon.
Please pick me.
[Laughter.]
Please.
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back.
Is your sweater white with black stripes [Southern accent.]
White? My sweater is not white.
It's eggshell.
Speaking of that, they said like two or three more chickens - hatched yesterday.
- Mnh-mnh.
Two or three more chickens hatched? Oh, my gosh.
Call the press! [Laughter.]
Alert the media! Chickens! I've been encouraging Stephen to audition for "The Voice," where more people see the talent than hiding out there.
- In the cornfields.
- In the cornfields.
My name is Stephen Bores.
I'm 32 years old, and I'm from Arlington, Illinois.
We have a bar.
We got a post office.
We got a church.
It's pretty much cornfields.
Can't believe this is happening.
We never had to do any of the farming, but me and my dad, we both kind of discovered brewing craft beer together.
I'm the creative input guy, and he's the engineer.
We don't have any working titles or any any names.
Maybe the Bores Brewhouse.
Patent pending, by the way.
[Laughs.]
What kind of beer do you make? We do a lot of ales, stouts, porters.
Why didn't you bring some of this beer - to bribe the host of the show? - You know what? I really thought about doing that, too.
Growing up, my dad always had a guitar in the house.
Gwen Stefani's No Doubt was the first album that I ever bought.
That Spanish guitar riff on "Don't Speak," that was, like, the first guitar solo I think I ever learned.
[Laughs.]
I am currently a full-time musician, but being in such a small town, it's really hard getting noticed.
And this opportunity, it's indescribable.
For my blind audition, I'm gonna be singing "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley and putting my own kind of take on it.
With the experience that I could gain from the coaches, the possibilities that it could open for my career, it's kind of incomprehensible.
I don't really have a plan "B," and this is my chance to make that next step in my musical career.
There he is.
There he is.
Don't worry About a thing Because every little thing's Gonna be all right, now Yeah, singin' don't you worry Don't you worry 'bout a thing, now Yeah, because everything is, it's gonna be all right, now And I rise up this mornin' And I smile with the risin' sun Those three little birds Pitch by my doorstep Well, singin' their sweet songs Of melodies pure and true Singin' now This is my message to you Oh, singin' don't you worry Don't you worry 'bout a thing now Yeah.
Oh Now every little thing is Gonna be all right, now [Cheers and applause.]
It's all right.
- It's all right.
Good job.
- It's all right.
It's all right.
Can you tell us your name? My name is Stephen Bores.
I'm 32 years old, and I'm from Arlington, Illinois.
How are you feeling up there right now? I'm feeling surprisingly great, aside from, you know, what just happened here, - but, yeah.
- The obvious.
Yeah.
Stephen: Yeah.
I think that's a beautiful energy and a beautiful attitude, for sure.
We all do really hope that everything's gonna be all right, and it stems from this place of concern that maybe it won't be.
And so I think almost that tension is what I wanted to hear in that song.
But I really think that it was a beautiful choice, and I like how you mixed the worlds together.
Thank you very much.
[Applause.]
Adam: I thought you were good, man.
I think sometimes when you have a really iconic song that means so much to so many people, it's impossible to divorce yourself from the original, and so I think puts even more pressure on you to deliver even more than you probably even needed to.
Just keep at it and come back.
No, I appreciate that.
Thank you.
[Cheers and applause.]
One spot left.
I'm stressed out.
- Lots of love, man.
- Nice Nice meeting you guys.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- Nice to meet you.
You, too, Gwen.
Still looking for a bluesy, emotional artist.
Do you still have one spot left? [Southern accent.]
I have one more spot left.
- I thought you were full, too.
- No.
One more spot left on Team Adam.
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back.
Let's meet our next artist, 33-year-old Florida native Sheena Brook.
Sheena: Fort Myers Beach is a really small beach town.
I am so lucky to live here with my beautiful wife, Summer.
- Get him, Molly.
- Get him.
Summer and I met for the first time at a show.
I was playing at a place called Backstreets, and I saw her in the crowd, and she had a beautiful smile, and I wanted to talk to her.
Literally a year later, got married.
She really, really supports and believes in my music.
For my blind audition, I'll be singing "Baby Girl" by Sugarland.
It's, like, the first record I bought myself.
Country music just comes out of me naturally, but I also grew up doing hip-hop and rock.
About 21-ish, I joined a rock band called Fellow Bliss.
It was rock music, but I would occasionally rap a little in between.
[Beatboxing.]
Okay, that's all I got.
[Laughs.]
Right now, I have a weekly gig on the beach.
It's at The Salty Crab.
I'm a really laid-back person.
I just take out my little cart and walk over to my gig and play, and sometimes I wear shoes, and sometimes I don't.
La, la, la, la, la They literally serve buckets full of rum.
Everyone is having a good time.
Being a bar singer in Florida, people want to hear a lot of pop, a lot of island stuff, so this is a big opportunity for me to showcase who I am as an artist.
[Cheers and applause.]
I've sung a lot of different genres, but I just love country music.
I love telling a simple story.
This song is about the struggle of a musician.
And I'm ready to prove that I can do more than the beach bar.
She looks a little nervous.
- She does.
- Yeah, she does.
They say this town Stars stay up all night Well, I don't know, can't see 'em For the glow of the neon lights And it's a long way from here To the place where the home fires burn - Boom! - She got it! Are you freaking kidding me?! Well, it's 2,000 miles She did it.
And one left turn Dear Mom and Dad, please send money I'm so broke that it ain't funny Well, I don't need much, just enough to get me through Well, I love you more than anything in the world Love your baby girl You know it's worth all the dues I pay When I can write to you and say Dear Mom and Dad, I'll send money I'm so rich that it ain't funny Well, it oughta be more than enough to get you through And there are fancy cars and diamond rings And you know that they don't mean a thing Well, they all add up to nothing compared to you Well, remember me in ribbons and curls Love your baby g-i-i-i-i-i-rl I still love you more than anything in the world Love your baby girl [Cheers and applause.]
Wow.
Wow.
- Wow.
- Holy crap! Wow.
Oh, my God! Just hug me! If I wasn't gay, I would marry him.
Holy moly.
What's your name? My name is Sheena Brook.
I'm 33.
I'm from Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
[Cheers and applause.]
Thank you.
Whoo! First of all, I'm sorry that my button doesn't work, but congratulations for making it on the show.
Thank you.
You're so good.
Like, I'm super excited for Adam to have you, a country singer, on his team.
You have so many things working for you.
It's very exciting.
You have the fact that you're "A," incredible You're making me blush.
"B," I know Blake's hands were literally tied.
There's nothing that makes me happier than the destruction of Blake Shelton.
Like, I want nothing more than to show him that I can bring a country singer all the way to the top, and that country singer could very easily be you.
- Whoo! - Wait, wait, let me tell you why I didn't turn around.
'Cause they don't - Oh, okay, tell me, tell me.
- What's happening? 'Cause you're amazing.
[Laughter.]
Is that Is that me? - [Laughs.]
- Give me a kiss.
Give me a kiss.
[Laughter.]
Thank you.
Um I don't like puppets.
[Laughter.]
I don't like puppets at all.
Get that Get that puppet away from me.
[Laughter.]
If I turned around, and I had to battle Adam [Laughter.]
once it was time for you to choose, he would've put his hands in his praying position that he does and he puts his head down.
"Please pick me.
Please.
" [Laughter.]
That was good.
That was good.
Adam, do you have any more spots left on your team? I do not, and you know what that means, right? What does that mean? My team is full! [Cheers and applause.]
Yee-haw! Get over here! Adam: Sheena was amazing.
I want to just see her do what she loves, which is definitely country music.
- She's really, really good.
- She's got a strong voice.
Whoo! Adam, his dream is to beat me with a country artist, and she may very well be the kind of singer that can do it.
You will never see a puppet in my house.
All felty and gross.
Do it, do it, do it, do it.
Hit it.
Hit it, hit it.
Yeah.
[Laughter.]
Don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down Daly: You can buy full versions of tonight's blind auditions songs on iTunes.
Singin' ohh Daly: Or listen to them on Apple Music.
Happiness Coming up, which artist will Alicia pick to fill the final spot of the season? Whoo! - My team is full! - Yeah! Daly: And then a special sneak peek at the battles you won't want to miss.
I used to think maybe you loved me Get Get your bodies into this thing.
- [Laughs.]
- How'd I do? You just mentored people.
How does it feel? I'm walkin' on sunshine [Laughter.]
This is "The Voice" Daly: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
With only one spot left this season, Alicia is feeling the pressure to find the perfect singer to complete her team, but these next artists weren't quite what she was looking for.
And feeling good was easy, Lord I heard a lot of incredible things.
- [Laughs.]
- But this is a super tough time to come out right here in the competition.
Thank you.
Now we got bad blood I was really close.
When you didn't see people turning, I kind of felt like that affected your performance.
Thank you so much.
So bring on the rain Thought you had a beautiful voice.
It's just kind of a timing thing at this point.
Thanks, Alicia.
Let's see if our next artist has what Alicia has been searching for.
Come on.
Something's about to happen.
Blake: You're up, Alicia.
- You're up.
- Something is coming.
Chris: Going from watching the show at home and finally being here, it's like I pinch myself just to make sure I'm not dreaming.
Know that your mother is your number-one cheerleader.
You can do this.
My name is Chris Blue.
I'm 26 years old.
I now live in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Mom had seven children, and I was the last one.
She was like, "Unh-unh.
I ain't having no more.
" My brothers and sisters, everyone sings.
My mom realized, "Wait a minute.
I-I think we've got something special here.
These guys are like the Jacksons.
" So we put a band together.
We called ourselves the Blue Brothers.
My mom took us around to different churches and different venues across Florida.
They would just rehearse and practice and sing, and I began to see how much they had matured.
We began to venture out, and we did the "Bobby Jones Gospel" show.
Coming from a small town to now being on B.
E.
T.
, like, this is a big deal.
We did that all the way up through my high school years.
My brothers and I, we still perform together, but I've recently started a solo venture.
I'm currently a worship leader at my church in Knoxville, and that's when I met my fiancée, Stephanie.
She was born and raised in London, England.
That's 4,000, I believe, 512 miles apart.
Back in May, she was re-diagnosed with bone marrow cancer.
She had an operation on her brain.
[Voice breaking.]
And And she flatlined.
I thought I thought I lost her.
It was really hard.
I know Chris wanted to be there, and he couldn't.
[Voice breaking.]
She was at her lowest point.
I couldn't I couldn't do anything.
And, um all I could do was pray.
I give praise to God, because she's much better now.
Chris: Because life is too short, I didn't want to waste another moment.
I made two promises to God I would make this woman my wife, and I would try out for "The Voice.
" This is the first time I've stepped out on my own.
For all I know, there could only be one spot left, and so I'm going to sing as if that spot belongs to me.
You can do it, babe.
Ooh People say I'm the life of the party 'Cause I tell a joke or two And although I might be there laughing loud and hearty He's really good.
I would've chose that.
Deep inside, I'm blue Take a good look at my face You'll see my smile looks out of place If you look closer, it's easy to trace Yay! The tracks of my tears Now, outside, I'm masquerading [Both screaming.]
