A Season to Blossom (2026) Movie Script
You're still pushing this
expansion thing, huh?
Already in the works, Dad.
Cider's doing so well locally,
I don't see why you have to
try to fix what isn't broken.
Well, sometimes it's good
to get out of your comfort zone.
Well, I like my apples
right where I can see 'em.
And always freeze the extras.
I know, I know,
in case we have a bad year
and don't harvest enough apples.
That's right.
By the way, I went to town.
I ran into Winnie,
and it's official.
The Driftless Bookstore
is going on the market.
- Wow.
- Yeah.
That's the end of an era.
Oh, can you hold that?
Thanks.
Floor eight, please.
Good morning!
Happy first day of spring.
Well, that's not happening.
Another one bites the dust.
I guess I overwatered it.
Didn't inherit my grandma's
green thumb.
Well, maybe
we'll try plastic ones.
More efficient.
Are you, uh, clear on that
purchase order variance report?
Yep. I'll have it ready for you
to review in just a few hours.
Also, since my temp contract
wraps today,
I'm putting together some notes
of where I've left off
on everything.
Yeah. About that.
Follow me.
Have a seat.
You know, Elise,
we are so impressed
with you here.
You're organized, dependable.
You're the best temp
we've ever had.
You catch things in
those inventory reports
that most people overlook.
And that's a real skill.
Which is why we would like to
offer you a full-time role here.
Benefits, stability.
A real career.
Wow. I... I'm flattered.
Thank you.
It's just...
I wasn't planning
on staying in Chicago.
Ah.
So, you are stuck temping
because you keep moving, right?
I suppose.
I just haven't quite found
the place that sticks.
Well, you're good at this.
Really good.
There's room to grow here
if you stay put.
Make Chicago and us your home.
You know what?
You're right.
It's time I stopped drifting.
I would love to accept.
That's the spirit!
I will still need a few weeks
in the Driftless area,
wrapping up my late grandma's
bookstore, though.
No problem, the role starts
in a month.
Take four weeks to get
things settled, and then
we'll need you here ready to go.
Perfect.
I'm finalizing the sale,
and then I'll be out.
But I am excited to see
the apple blossoms
while I'm there.
Apple blossoms?
Uh... like the dessert?
Wow. Cherry blossoms
really do have better PR.
Um, think those,
but on apple trees.
Every spring when
the apple trees bloom,
the town throws a festival.
Local vendors, games,
tractor rides
through the blossoms.
Wow, maybe I'll take my wife.
Sounds like something out of
one of her romance novels.
You know, she's reading
this one author now.
It starts with a T, um...
Tessa Marks?
Yes. That's it.
She loves her.
Well, enough fluff.
Back to business.
You made the smart choice.
We're thrilled to have you
officially on board.
See you in a month.
Hey, are you Elise?
Yeah. Hi.
Um, I'm looking for Molly.
You found her.
Oh, wow.
Hi. Uh,
it's so nice to meet you.
Sorry, I think I was
expecting someone...
Someone older?
- Kinda. Yeah.
- Plot twist, right?
Um, well, I've been
working here since I was 14.
The last manager had to step
away for some family stuff,
so I kinda just stayed on when
I started college nearby.
But my hours are flexible,
so it's worked out.
Hopefully the next owner
doesn't kick me out.
Oh, with your knowledge,
they'd be crazy to.
I think the last time
I worked here
I was a teen myself,
so I might be a little rusty.
Don't judge.
Oh, I only judge on book taste.
Uh-oh. Does romance count
as a personality flaw?
Only if there aren't
enough kissing scenes.
Wow.
Somehow this place
feels exactly the same,
yet completely different.
You know?
Not really.
Hey, those, uh,
planters out front.
Does anyone ever fill them?
Normally we hire someone,
but winter's just thawed,
and I just had my midterms.
- It's on the to-do.
- No worries.
I've got my own to-do list
I'm procrastinating.
I just remember Gram loved
seeing them spill with color
this time of year.
Well, yeah, she definitely
had the touch for it.
We sure do miss her.
The whole town does.
Oh, my goodness!
I left the back door open
to air things out.
I guess he wandered in.
Meet the neighborhood cat.
Um, he just comes
and goes and...
People just let him do
his thing.
But, um, ooh!
Your grandma
would feed him sometimes.
- Really?
- Mm-hmm.
I didn't know she was
a cat person.
Uh, well, I'm gonna go
get settled
at Gram's house next door...
if you're okay for a bit.
Yeah, I'm here
whenever you need.
Perks of spring break.
Thanks.
Sorry I never finished
my book, Gram.
You were always warm
and inspiring,
but I don't think I'll ever be
as good of a storyteller as you.
These books always
help me find my way
when the world is
waking up again.
Plant them with care.
New beginnings grow best
when nurtured together.
I sure miss you, Gram.
You always did have
a way with words.
Can I help you with something?
Hi.
Yeah, I'm looking
for some potted plants
to brighten up the bookstore.
You must be Lorraine's
granddaughter, right?
That obvious?
Well, you have her eyes.
I'm Winnie.
Elise.
You knew my grandma?
Oh, everyone knew Lorraine.
She was the heartbeat
of this town.
I actually helped with
the Apple Blossom Festival
and your grandmother
used to host readings
alongside it.
Oh, yeah.
I actually just found her
Books and Blooms list.
I'm thinking I might host
an event in her honor.
Just one book, something small.
Just a little send off.
How special.
You know, little things have
a way of growing around here.
Actually...
the Book Nook at the festival
was a little tradition
that your grandmother started.
I think it was her way
of putting a-a final,
cozy touch on the whole
Books and Bloom events.
Really? What was it?
Well, it was like, um,
a little reading nook,
but much more than that.
She hid little notes,
surprises or recordings
for anyone who looked closely.
I think she wanted
whoever wandered in to feel
like she left a secret
just for them.
That sounds like Gram.
She inspired all of us.
You know, we would love
to see the Book Nook again
if you could continue it
for the spring festival.
Oh.
I'm not sure.
I might not be here that long.
I'm only here until
the bookstore sells, so...
I think I might just stick to
one Book and Bloom event
for now.
Well, we all pitch in
around here,
so if you do change your mind,
the festival committee
meets every Tuesday
until those trees blossom.
Okay. Good to know.
Uh, so, any idea where I could
get some potted plants?
Yeah. Whitman's Orchards.
They're your best bet.
Do you know how to get there?
I sure do.
Thanks, Winnie.
Okay.
Hi.
Thank you.
Oh, no. No.
No, no, no, no, no.
No, we're not doing this.
- Ah!
- Oh! Oh, gosh.
I am so, so sorry.
Max?
Elise.
Wow.
- Hi.
- Hi.
You're still here?
Well, where else would I be?
It's my family's farm.
Right. Of course.
I just didn't think
you'd still be...
We can't all just run off
without saying goodbye
and disappear.
You should really do something
about your bee problem.
My bee problem?
They pollinate the blossoms.
That's kinda the whole point.
That's how we get the apples.
Maybe if you weren't
drinking something so sweet.
You guys offered it to me.
It's a taster,
just for the entrance.
What do you think of it,
by the way? At least...
what you got to try of it.
Uh, it's good. Fine.
Fine. Great.
I may have wasted
my entire winter
perfecting that recipe.
You made this?
What are you doing back here?
Are you handling
the bookstore sale?
Yeah.
I thought your parents
would take care of that.
Yeah, well, they're off
on a world cruise
enjoying retirement.
They're gone for, like, a year.
- So...
- Ahh.
- Here I am.
- Right, I remember.
Your family never liked to stay
in one place for very long.
No.
Visiting Gram in the summer
was the only constant.
I've never been here
in the spring, it's nice.
You're gonna love it.
Spring's underrated.
And you'll finally get a chance
to see the apple blossoms.
I hope so.
If I'm still here.
But for now, I'm looking
to brighten up the store.
Make it lively.
One last time for Gram.
Are you, uh,
a better gardener now?
I remember you used to kill
everything you touched.
Although I guess you spent
all your time typing away
in the bookstore.
Always writing something.
Uh, yeah.
Something like that.
Um, I'm just gonna use
Gram's notes as a cheat sheet,
and, uh, these will do it.
Wha... are you sure that's
the... the mix you want?
'Cause those don't
really complement...
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Thank you
so much for your help.
And for the bee.
Okay.
Good to see you, Elise.
You, too.
Tell me this one's good.
The brand's story feels generic.
Too heavy on the facts.
Oh. Really?
I tried every angle
I could think of.
You're the distributor,
what do you think we should do?
Buyers want a standout flavor
paired with
a distinguishable story.
Why the orchard, the batch?
Why you?
Okay, well, I can work
on flavor, but...
I'm not a storyteller.
Well, you better
find someone quick.
Otherwise, you could miss
your window.
Okay. Yeah, you're right.
Water daily.
Except when it rains.
But not too much rain.
Not today.
Shade, but only morning shade.
Who is supposed
to remember all of this?
You sure you don't want me to
just hire someone to do this?
This was important to Gram.
I wanna try and do it for her.
- Hey.
- Hi.
Uh, did I leave something
at the orchard?
No, no, no, I just wanted to see
how you're settling in.
Hey.
Are you part of
the gardening committee?
Hard pass.
Well, do you want me to lend
a hand here?
Does no one think I can do this?
That's not what I'm saying.
It's just nice to have some
creative input sometimes.
Actually, that's why I'm here.
I'm wondering if I could get
some of yours.
For what?
That fine cider you tried.
It was really delicious.
I just...
There was a lot happening.
Good. I'm glad you like it.
What was in that sample?
Rhubarb and jasmine.
Fascinating.
It's part of this, uh,
fruit and floral blend
that I'm trying to expand.
But the distributor,
they want a story.
You know, something to sell it.
And I'm not good at that.
But I remembered that you are.
That part of me disappeared
a long time ago.
I'm not the girl for you.
I think you're wrong.
Look, how about this?
We-we do, um...
we do a trade.
I heard you're hosting
a book event.
I help you, and...
you help me with my story.
Kind of, uh, team...
Cider and Blooms.
It's just a small event.
It's nothing big.
The Elise I remember
always did everything big.
I should really
get back to this.
Elise! Big news.
RSVPs for the Books and Blooms
filled up overnight!
What do you mean, "filled up"?
Well, it was so popular,
I added a couple days
for the other books.
- Hi, Max.
- Hi.
But it was just one night.
Just a few people.
Oh, well, don't ask me how
to undo it on the website.
I-I just clicked on something
and everyone got excited.
Spring's a sproutin'
and you are now
a part of the festival,
miss headliner.
Looks like your little thing
just got a whole lot bigger.
So, you liked the cat.
Just a little breakfast.
Don't get too comfy.
I'm not looking for a roommate.
What's this?
Life may feel bare
and empty sometimes.
But that's just winter
doing its job.
Make tea, open a book,
and plant something anyway.
There's always a chance
to start anew.
Gram.
What are you doing?
Good morning, headliner.
How'd you sleep?
Not great, actually.
Apparently, cats have
early schedules.
And gardeners, I see.
I thought I told you
I didn't need any help.
Yeah, but the other day
I noticed that you got
a bunch of fillers,
but no thrillers or spillers.
Thrill-a-what-a-huh?
Thrillers. Tall,
party in the back.
Fillers, fills the dance floor.
Spillers like to show off,
but kinda ties
the whole thing together.
What do you think of these two?
Yeah, you look really good.
Um, they look...
really good together.
- Elise?
Hi.
Vanessa.
Oh, the-the real estate agent.
Hi. I, um, thought
you were coming later.
Well, I was in the neighborhood,
so I figured I'd stop by,
introduce myself
and take a quick photo.
Potential buyer is interested
in seeing the details
of the shelves inside.
Wow! Someone's
already interested.
- Mm-hmm.
- That's great.
Uh, the faster, the better.
Yeah. Fantastic.
- Hey, Max.
- Hey, Vanessa.
- How you doing?
- Good.
Oh. We're hugging.
Elise, you're in good hands
with Vanessa.
She's a real real estate shark.
Oh.
Oh, it's so sweet
that Max is helping you out.
Um, actually,
I've asked him not to.
Well, we're working out a deal.
- A little quid pro quo thing.
- Oh...
Speaking of deals,
a quick photo? Be right back.
I appreciate your plant
enthusiasm, but I don't wanna
take your services for free.
- I don't mind. I want...
- All set!
I'm hoping to have that
paperwork to you soon.
Amazing. Thanks.
Yeah, I have another showing
to get to, but I'll be in touch.
Great.
Uh, you know, I think
I've got this whole
thrill, fill, spill thing.
So, um...
Once I have my morning coffee,
I'll, uh, get to it.
Okay.
Well, I'm-I'm headed
to the caf to get coffee.
Do you wanna come?
I'll get you a coffee.
They have amazing coffee.
Um...
- For coffee?
- For the coffee.
- Sure.
- Great.
Let me just, uh, get changed.
You look great! Oh. Okay.
Spring showers...
Bring May flowers.
That's right.
So what's the deal
with this mystery cat
who decided to wake you up?
- I don't know!
He showed up my first day here
and waltzed into the store
like he owned the place.
Well, you know, some people
say it's an honor
if a cat chooses you.
Yeah, well, I'm not
looking to get attached.
It sounds like he's just
a neighborhood wanderer
who's got a taste
for free snacks.
Okay. So, your quid pro quo.
You're looking for inspiration
for the distributor.
What have you pitched so far?
Um...
So, fermentation stats,
ratios, fruit blends.
All the riveting stuff that
only I find exciting.
Well, maybe it's not about
what's in it,
but where it's from.
You used to love showing me
what was so special
about the Driftless area
when I'd come to visit.
You just have to tell it
in your own words.
See?
You still have that gift.
I'm just talking.
No, no, you...
You could always see
what other people missed.
You would've got
there eventually.
Maybe. But...
I wouldn't mind
figuring it out with you.
If you'll accept my offer.
I'm just too busy.
And it looks like
the sale on the store
might close sooner
than expected.
Okay.
Should we make a run for it?
Yeah.
- Hey, Molly.
- Hi.
We got new books in.
Have you read this one?
Uh...
The cat dug up the clover again.
Maybe it was the bunnies?
They love snacking on it
this time of year.
Nice try. I caught him
red-handed earlier.
It was definitely the cat.
Oh, thanks for updating this.
Oh. No prob.
I wanted all the displays
looking good
for the morning crowd.
Wow, this is dangerous.
Wait.
What if we served these
with tea?
Small tables, cozy book chat,
so I don't have to lead
the talk.
An introvert's dream.
I'm in.
Where did you get these?
You're looking at her.
Stop! Really?
What? Baking's punk now.
Hey, do you think you'll be
able to bake for the event?
I love a good deadline.
You're on.
Amazing.
Bare Branches! That's fun!
Where did this come from?
Just a little burst
of inspiration.
I figured people could
write notes
and fill in their own blossoms.
Love that idea.
Something's missing.
Maybe Gram would have an idea?
Life may feel bare
and empty sometimes,
but that's just
winter doing its job.
Make tea, open a book,
and plant something anyway.
There's always a chance
to start anew.
There's always a chance
to start anew.
I have to make something right.
This is my chance
to plant something fresh.
Like the flowers
you're trying to do?
No. I mean, yes,
but more so metaphorically.
Like, in life.
I'm sick of being stuck
in winter.
Yeah.
Show winter who's boss.
- Hi again.
- Hey.
Didn't expect to see you
out here.
I was setting things up at
the bookstore, and it hit me.
I've been getting in my own way,
and earlier was kind of proof.
I want to help you,
I do, I just...
My writing so far
has consisted mostly
of rejection letters
and false starts.
And...
When you mentioned story,
it... hit a nerve.
I guess I'm afraid to feel
like I'm failing again.
Yeah, I get that.
But, you know, maybe
it's good to look at it
not as failing,
but learning, growing.
Just moving forward.
Yeah.
I wanna try again.
I just...
Right now I feel like these.
Bare, exposed.
Here.
Put these offshoots
in some water.
They'll blossom in no time.
How long does that take?
Depends.
Whenever they're ready.
So, what do you say?
Team Cider and Blooms round two?
Now, are you just saying this
because you couldn't
figure out those planters?
That.
And I miss how we used to do
things together.
Yeah.
Yeah, I do too.
All right, I'm in.
I'm in.
Great! Where should we start?
Whoo!
The weather can't decide
what it wants to do.
It's raining, it's sunny,
now it is raining.
Oh, my God!
Is that our little Elise
all grown up?
Come here.
Oh, wait a second.
- I'm soaking wet.
- I don't mind.
Aww, come here. Mmm!
Wow. It is good to see you.
You do that just like your Gram.
I feel her presence
every time I'm in here.
You know, it is so great
you're doing the...
the bookstore
for one last season.
You gonna join the festival
committee too?
Because I'd really like to get
my Book Nook back.
I might try to make
the next one.
But first I have to get
through this event tonight.
Oh, I hope I don't faint.
Oh, nonsense!
I will splash you
with water if I have to.
I might buy
a ticket to see that.
Oh, I'll get you
right now for free!
No, I'm already wet! Stop.
Oh, I do love a good
spring sun shower.
Oh, yeah, I do too.
As long as it's not too strong
and knocks the blossom
off the tree.
- That can happen?
Oh, sure, that could happen.
But it's part of the process.
I mean, you need rain
for things to grow.
Hey, Dad, I just, uh,
set up in there,
if you wanna bring
the chairs in.
And then I have a few more
in the truck.
Sorry about all the puddles.
Oh, I came prepared.
Sorry, I'm in your way.
Oh, I loved doing all this
with your Gram.
It brings back such
great memories.
I stayed up all night,
but I did it!
Wow, Molly,
this looks incredible!
Don't you have some notes
to work on?
We can arrange this.
Okay. Thanks.
Why do you look so nervous?
You're great with people.
What do you have
to be afraid of?
One on one? Sure.
But this was my grandma's thing.
I like living stories
in my head.
Not out loud.
Like when I invented a whole
fake romance between us
when we were teens.
- Really?
Which I never told you about,
so you didn't know.
Well, at least your
imagination has good taste.
I have an idea.
Come with me.
No way.
- It's still here?
- Still here.
What do you say?
Oh, don't even.
Come on! One swing.
It'll clear your mind.
I'm still way
too short for this thing.
Well, lucky for you, I'm tall.
I'll steady it.
Giddy up!
Okay.
Look at that... oh!
It's like riding a bike.
- Okay, if this thing snaps...
- See? It all comes back.
- You are carrying me back.
- Deal.
Oh, my gosh. Okay.
- Okay.
- Okay, okay.
Oh! Oh, oh.
I got you, I got you, I got you.
I got you, I got you.
- I got you.
- Thank you.
You're welcome.
So, mind clear?
Yeah, actually.
I feel like I'm 15 again.
Perfect!
Thank you.
I needed that.
I feel more like myself here.
Yeah, Driftless
will do that to you.
You know, I was thinking
about your situation,
and it's kind of like, um,
Tonight's book.
The Year of Waiting.
How Charles, he's not happy
with his
circumstances, but he keeps
moving forward,
even though he's afraid.
I could see some similarities
between your situation.
You read the book?
Yeah, of course I read the book.
It's-it's your big night.
Sounds like you should be
leading the discussion.
Mmm.
No, I'm just recycling
your insights.
Hmm.
I guess I'm full of wisdom
you didn't know you needed.
But, yeah. Okay.
I can kinda see
the parallel here.
Don't you just love-hate
when a story
holds up a mirror like that.
I love that you love it.
Okay.
Am I crazy or is there...
a vibe between...
Your dad and-and Winnie?
Or am I just making up
love stories in my head again?
No. No, no, no, no.
You're-you're not crazy.
There's definitely a vibe.
Everybody sees it
except for them.
Okay, I should probably
get back and finish
all the last-minute things.
Thanks.
- I'll see you later.
- See you later.
It's a great turnout.
Mm-hmm.
I guess people really
miss book club.
Yeah.
- May I come in?
- Mm-hmm.
Your Gram would be so proud
of you.
Breathe in with me.
Count of four.
Hold.
Out for four.
Good.
- Okay.
- Okay.
- I'm ready.
- Go get 'em.
Welcome, everyone.
It is my honor to bring back my
grandma's favorite tradition.
She loved apple blossom season.
After a long winter,
it reminded her that
something beautiful was coming,
even if it was fleeting.
And that's what
this story reflects.
The hope,
the waiting,
and the quiet courage
it takes to believe that
something new is possible.
She believed there is
greatness all around us,
and had faith in the unexpected.
On your tables, you'll find
little slips of paper.
Write a literary love note.
Something the book
made you feel,
or something from your heart,
and hang it on our paper tree.
We'll make our own
blossoms inside.
Oh, and a huge shout-out
to Molly Teller,
our resident rock star with
the best book recommendations,
who also made all of
the amazing treats tonight.
Thank you.
Incoming!
New shipments.
I caught Molly wrestling
these outside.
Figured I'd lend a hand.
Whoa. What is that about?
Oh, just thought he'd like
something comfy
for when he pops by.
- Oh.
- What?
It's temporary.
Denial is the first step
of cat ownership.
He's here more than some of
your regulars.
Does he have a name yet?
What do the neighbors call him?
Oh, he's such a drifter.
Never sticks around long enough
for anyone to name him.
But I guess you're
the exception.
Hmm.
What name suits you?
You're always creeping,
but it's cute.
Chirping at birds.
Digging up plants.
Yeah, the white clover.
Wait.
What about Clover?
He's lucky he found you.
Hey.
You like the name Clover?
I bet your grandmother
would've loved it.
Oh, I'm so glad that
shipment came in.
I can't find Gram's copy
anywhere, so I'll just have
to jot my notes down
in a blank one.
Oh, this title's been
flying off the shelves.
I'm glad we got the restock.
Uh, Molly, would you
finish unboxing these?
I'm gonna go work on Max's
brand story with him.
Consider it handled.
Thanks.
Max, your dad's pizza night
at the taproom
is tonight, right?
Yep. Every Friday.
Whole band, pizza, dancing.
It's gonna be fun.
Uh, well, I would love
to treat you all
as a thanks for helping with
the events, if you're free.
Well, Earl already
invited me to come hang,
so I'll be there.
- Count me in.
- Alright.
See you tonight.
Well, this is new.
Mm-hmm. Much to
Dad's disapproval.
Okay.
So...
this...
is kind of my baby.
It's slow, manual, but it pulls
flavors like nothing else.
It's not great for
mass production,
so it doesn't get used
as much as it should.
And over here,
we have my spring batch.
So, I've got elderflower,
huckleberry and raspberry.
Wow. It smells amazing in here.
How do you decide
what to try next?
Instinct mostly.
But, um...
some flavors just kinda grab me.
Others come from experimentation
and then others it's just
from whatever's in season.
There's inspiration everywhere.
There's no names yet,
maybe you can help with that.
Mmm.
Tastes like...
A kiss waiting to happen.
I like it.
I'll put a warning label on it.
Sweetened with honey,
with a side of swooning.
Honey.
That's it. Honey kiss.
Honey kiss.
Now, this one is, um, raspberry.
This reminded me of...
do you remember that summer
that we went
picking wild raspberries
and that bear showed up?
You remember that?
Yeah, of course. I've never
seen you run that fast.
I don't think that's
the recommended
survival strategy.
We survived,
that's what's important.
Tastes like a narrow escape.
You certainly think like
a storyteller.
Okay, now this is
the elderberry.
Let me know what
you think of this.
Hmm.
Tart.
But it settles.
Makes you wanna go back for more
Like an ex you give
a second chance to.
Second chance.
That's good.
That's really good.
You've got a way with words.
A little less daunting
than a 300-page novel.
Yeah, speaking of which...
When you were unpacking,
I noticed you paused
at one book.
Is everything okay?
Yeah. Um...
-That author, Tessa Marks,
-Mm-hmm.
We were writing buddies
in grad school.
We used to share drafts,
snacks, dreams.
And then what happened?
Life happened.
Gram got sick.
Went through a breakup.
More rejection letters, I...
I started to lose momentum
as Tessa took off.
I felt like I was holding
her back, so I pulled away.
I'm proud of her.
I am.
It's just hard when it
represents a life you wanted,
you know?
Right.
Well, your story isn't over yet.
I gave myself five years to
finish my draft by this spring.
I haven't touched it.
But I also never
let it go, so...
I've just been drifting.
All the way to Driftless.
How poetic.
At this point, I've lost belief
that I can even do it.
I have wasted too many years,
and it's time to move on.
But, hey.
You get me for one last
creative sprint.
So, I wanna hear more
about your passion.
Your vision.
Okay. Um...
Oh, have I shown you the merch?
Okay.
It's inspiring being out here
makes me feel connected
to something
much bigger than myself.
It's a powerful thing.
It's kinda like my canvas.
Because you're an artist.
Oh, I don't know about that.
Maybe, uh, a mad scientist.
Nah. You write with taste
instead of words.
Tell that to my dad.
He never really understood
my creative impulses.
He supports you.
He just doesn't understand
the way you're wired.
But there's more to you
than making good recipes.
I'll keep digging.
What? Here, I thought
I was an open book,
but are you saying
I'm a closed barrel?
Not tightly sealed.
Promise.
They're back from a long winter.
It's so beautiful.
It really is.
Thank you all for your help
with the bookstore events.
It means so much and I know
Gram would be proud.
Aww.
- Alright. Cheers.
- Cheers.
So, what's next on the schedule?
Poetry night.
It's time to get deep
and dramatic.
So, the mic will be open
for people to read from
the poetry collection.
Or if inspiration strikes,
read something original.
I'm secretly hoping
someone does.
Has anyone here ever written
a poem or been given one?
Oh, that would be nice, but...
that wasn't my husband's thing.
Henry would show me his love
in his own quiet ways.
Anyway, enough of that.
Isn't anyone going to dance?
You two, go on.
Get up there.
- We'll guard the table.
- Yeah.
- You want to?
- Go for it.
- Sure.
- Come on, have some fun.
Show 'em the moves I taught you.
Yeah.
It's nice that your dad embraces
the cider with his taproom.
Well...
I mean, he's okay with it
locally, but...
any more expansion than that,
then I don't know.
He...
I think he's just scared
of change.
You know...
I can't believe I was so dense
and didn't realize that
you felt that way about me.
I just thought...
I don't know,
I thought we were...
We were friends.
We were so close, I didn't...
I didn't know you had
those feelings.
Yeah, well...
I'm pretty sure every girl
had a crush on you.
I just kept mine
as a story in my head.
All the stories in your head.
You know, I-I'd love to read
that manuscript.
Can you tell me what it's about?
Oh, I... I can
hardly even remember.
Okay. I'll keep digging.
Okay.
- It's about a teen love story.
- Mm-hmm.
And it takes place
in a small farming town.
Nothing like Driftless.
And lead boy is not
based on anyone I know.
Now... I definitely have
to read it.
It's not finished. Remember?
You should finish it.
Yes! I'm so invested.
The character arcs are
building beautifully.
Can't wait to read
the next chapter.
XO, Tessa.
Oh, sweet girl.
Oh, yeah.
Um, Vanessa dropped this off.
Oh. Thanks.
Yeah, she said the buyers are
part of some development group
buying up all the local stores
in the county.
Why doesn't that sound like
a good thing?
Because it's not.
They wanna gut
the bookstore completely
and turn it into condos.
Let your faith guide you
on the journey.
It knows the way.
Hey, Elise.
Got a minute?
Hi. Yeah, sure.
Just following up on the offer.
Did you get a chance
to review it?
I did.
I'm wondering if we can
wait until after
the Apple Blossom Festival.
I'll still be here then,
and I would love
if we could try to find
someone to buy this as-is.
Keep it a bookstore.
It's a really generous offer.
We don't want them backing out.
I know, but...
do you think you could
try to buy us some time?
Just see if there's
any other interest.
I really think it's
the right thing.
I'll see what I can do.
Thanks.
Hey. Sorry I'm late.
Oh, hey.
For any of you who haven't
met her yet, this is Elise.
We now have the Book Nook back.
Perfect timing.
We were just about to get
the blossom report.
Oh, yeah.
Blossom report.
Alright.
Well, uh, they're
a tight cluster.
Should be ready to blossom
in a couple of days.
Great. I will update
the tracker on the website.
Uh...
Winnie, last time you uploaded
a picture of your elbow.
That was one time.
Three times.
Are you tracking me
or the blossoms?
Um...
Well, if the website
ever does behave,
I have a few Book Nook updates.
I'm putting together
curated sets of stories,
and in each set,
there will be something hidden.
Think of it as literary
Easter eggs for those
who like to look close.
And for anyone looking
for inspiration.
Okay!
Just like your Gram used to say,
sometimes small things
can make the biggest impact.
That concludes our meeting.
Coffee?
Sure.
One cream, two sugars,
stirred clockwise.
Don't ask why I remember that.
You two seem to be
getting along awfully well.
She's really something else.
I mean, she keeps me on my,
on my toes.
Last time someone did that
was your-your mother.
Both strong women.
You'd do well to pay attention.
What do you mean by that?
I think you know
what I mean by that, Dad.
No, I'm not sure what
you mean by that.
What, err...
You know, sometimes I find
it hard to say things out loud,
but it's easier to write
my thoughts down.
The next Books and Blooms
event theme is courage.
Maybe I could help you turn
your thoughts into a poem.
A poem?
Oh, no. No, no. No, I-I...
leave that to the professionals.
Oh, it doesn't
have to be perfect.
Share what's in your heart.
Well, I'll-I'll just
leave you two to it and, uh...
Hey, listen, don't forget to
check the south gate irrigation.
- It's been acting up.
- I know, I know.
- Alright?
- Yep. I'm on it.
Good.
I didn't mean to push him.
Do you think he's upset?
No. No, no, no, that was fine.
It's... that's just his
defense mechanism. He deflects.
But I saw a little glimmer
in his eye.
I bet he'll think about it.
And it doesn't bother you
to see him dating someone else?
Oh, no, no. Not at all.
My mom passed away
a long time ago.
I just want him to be happy.
Are you, uh, ready to get
started on those flowers
for the bookstore?
- Yeah.
I have some stuff
set up over here.
Look at these brave little guys.
Gram sure did love these.
Yes, she did.
Oh, um...
Stay cool.
Stay cool,
but your friend is back.
- No, no.
- It's okay.
Tell him to go over to
the blossoms, stay away from me!
I got it. There you go.
Buzz off!
They love those blossoms.
- Hmm.
- They're so sweet.
Did you know that you
could eat the petals?
- Of the apple blossoms?
- Yeah.
You put 'em in tea
or baked goods.
They're surprisingly good.
Wait, Max.
Why don't you use them
as your standout cider flavor?
That's a really good idea.
That's a really good idea.
You know, you're a genius.
Has anybody ever told you that?
How did I not think of that?
'Cause you didn't have me.
Ah.
That's right.
She's modest too.
I think these "blind date
with a book" baskets
are gonna turn out great.
Hopefully they're a hit
after poetry night.
I am so excited for
the discussions.
I have all of my notes
right here.
Hey. What's wrong?
You look like you're
about to confess to a crime.
Honestly, kinda feels like one.
Oh, no. What happened?
Remember that pastry workshop
I was telling you about?
Yeah.
They moved it to tonight.
Like, tonight-tonight?
During the poetry reading?
And I can't be in
two places at once.
I feel like I can't turn down
this opportunity either.
Hey, Molly.
You have helped keep
this place afloat, and...
you've earned the right
to chase your own things.
Okay, well, I'm gonna help you
until I have to leave.
Okay.
Look at this.
Book Club's a success.
You think you'll ever get
used to being the main event?
Honestly, it's growing on me.
Wait, where's my copy?
I need to find it.
Uh, it's not in these?
It's gotta be
around here somewhere.
Well, could it be in
one of the boxes? Or...
Oh...
Mine was the one
with all the tabs.
I had every discussion point
in there.
Okay, so...
What are you gonna do?
I'm gonna have to improvise.
Welcome, everyone.
Uh, I had notes to guide us
on today's discussion, but...
my copy's gone missing.
So, we're just gonna
roll with it.
Meet my co-host,
and the new Driftless
bookstore mascot,
Clover the cat.
Clover just...
wandered in one day
and refused to leave.
Oh, everyone give it up for Max,
who provided the delicious
cider and tonight's
plant pairing, the crocus.
Look what I found.
It's okay, I'll use
the new copy.
I think you're gonna
wanna read from this.
This belonged to my grandma.
I had planned on reading one of
my favorite
poems tonight, but...
I think I'll read something
Gram once wrote instead.
Courage isn't the shout
of certainty.
It's the whisper
that says, "try anyway".
Some of the best
things I ever did
started before I was ready.
Falling in love,
becoming a mother,
and opening this bookstore.
The scariest things
cracked my soul open.
So, take the leap.
Again and again.
Alright.
Who wants to share?
Thank you.
Is there anyone else?
Oh. Excuse me.
Most of you folks are reading
from the poetry book.
But I thought I'd try to, uh...
write one myself, and, uh...
Believe me,
I'm no writer, but...
Well, here it goes.
I thought one love
was all I'd get.
Frozen heart.
No room for regret.
But then you walked in.
Changed my plan.
Life nudged me.
Said, "go on".
Try again.
It's never too late
to try something new.
I guess even old roots...
can bloom again too.
Yeah!
Your poem was spectacular.
- Really?
- Yeah.
What do you say
your something new
is taking me out
on a date tomorrow?
I'd love that.
Another success.
For me or your dad?
Well, I meant for
the bookstore, but...
yeah, he did good.
- Yeah.
- So did you.
Hey, I noticed you tonight
recommending Tessa's book.
Yeah. I mean,
she's a great writer.
And, you know, having all
these book discussions
has really made me realize how
much I miss writing with her.
Sharing ideas.
Talking it all through.
You should reach out to her.
See if you guys can pick up
where you left off.
I don't know.
There's a lot to unpack
and what if she doesn't
wanna hear from me?
I don't think I'm ready
to make that call.
Well, I've heard
this thing about courage.
A great poet once said,
Sometimes you have to leap
before you're ready.
Wise words.
- Uh-huh.
I don't think
I can do this alone.
Can you girls help me get ready?
Right, it's the big date night.
Of course.
Let's go to the apartment.
Thanks. Just don't wanna
embarrass myself.
Don't worry, we'll make sure
you look and feel your best.
Oh, hold on there, hold your
horses there, lover boy.
What?
This is no good.
Oh, I've been dressing myself
for 60 years.
Yeah, but not for Winnie.
And not in the modern era,
obviously.
Hey, son. I hope
you're okay with this.
Mom's annoyed
you waited this long.
She's looking down on us,
smiling.
I'm just glad you're happy.
Good.
You got a gift or something?
Yeah.
No flowers?
Oh, come on.
Flowers are gaudy.
It's a bold move!
Well, what do you think?
Oh, I don't know.
- You look amazing!
- You look incredible!
I-I like it, I do.
It's just...
I'm just so very,
very out of practice.
Am I missing anything?
I've got an idea.
Something to tie it
all together.
It was Gram's.
Lorraine talked me off
so many ledges
when I first started
dating Henry.
She knew exactly
how to calm my nerves.
Still does.
Thank you.
I love it.
Oh...
It's for your tea.
I love a practical
non-fussy gift.
Thank you.
Well, that was adorable.
Do you have plans?
No.
Great. I have
a surprise for you.
Okay.
I was thinking about
your idea of a perfect date.
Is this outdoorsy
enough for you? The right...
Honestly? You nailed it.
Okay, we've got your
blind date books...
So, which one will it be?
Reverse Uno.
I already know what's in there.
Touch. Alright.
Uh, if you like fake dating
with wedding chaos.
If you like secrets
in sleepy towns.
I'm going sleepy towns.
Not a fan of romance?
No, I like romance.
Just in real life.
I think I'm better at
reading it than living it.
Aw, I don't know about that.
Hey, it's the-the book.
I noticed you-you picked that
for the next book club.
Yeah.
And I actually called her today
to tell her.
No way.
Thank you for encouraging me.
It was really nice
to catch up with her.
Good for you.
It also made me realize that
I don't have to be
so guarded with my story.
It's okay if someone hears it.
She even offered to read
my book,
if I ever pick it up again.
What do you mean
if you ever pick it up?
You're gonna pick it up again.
It's crazy to think that
the trees are about to blossom.
- Mmm.
- It feels like
just a couple weeks ago,
they were bare branches.
When do you think it'll happen?
Um. I'm gonna say three days.
What?
You wanna bet?
Okay.
Three days.
No way.
Too soon.
I will give it a week.
One week. Okay.
And what are the stakes?
If I win, you have
to name a cider after me.
Full distribution.
Deal.
And if I win,
you have to write
five pages of your book.
Just five.
Just to get started.
Curveball.
Okay. Deal.
So, tell me about this flavor.
Mmm.
Elderflower.
My mom, she used to grow
elderflower every spring.
And...
I have these memories
of us making, um,
syrup infused with it.
So, when I started
making cider, I knew that
that had to be
a part of the base.
It's, um...
I don't know, sort of nostalgic,
I guess.
That's it.
What?
Every flavor should have
a story.
Not just a taste, but a memory
that the customer can step into.
And each label
could tell the story.
It's not just a berry.
It's about being chased through
the woods to find the best one.
It's making syrup
in the kitchen with your mom.
It's placing silly bets
on when the blossoms
will finally bloom
with someone you...
care about.
That's so good.
That's really good.
I-I...
Thank you, I...
I don't think
I could've explained...
what this place
means to me without,
without your help.
Thank you.
You're a genius.
You're-you're a real...
you're an artist.
I-I should probably go.
-But I'm so glad I could help
-What, now? No!
With the story.
Wha...
Are you sure?
I thought we could...
Yeah, thank you
so much for tonight.
Okay.
Um...
Sure, um...
I'll, um, can I walk you
to the door?
Okay.
Okay, team. Well,
it's our final week of prep.
Looks like those trees
are gonna blossom any day now.
I would love to get
an update from everybody.
Molly, you wanna start?
I'm testing the floral bouquet
designs on cupcakes tonight.
And the Book Nook
is almost ready.
I just have
to finish the banner.
Great. And, Max, any word
about a distributor?
Pitching in a few days, but, um,
I'll let you know when I do.
We should be good, though,
because Elise helped me
with the story.
Earl, any last words?
If everybody stays on track,
we'll be ready for the blossoms.
- Great.
- Alright.
Let's go.
Thanks for the shout out.
Oh, yeah. Of course.
I mean, I'd be freaking out
without you.
Hey, I have a new batch.
Do you wanna give it a try?
I'd love your notes.
- Yeah. Okay.
- Yeah.
Mmm.
- That is a great base.
- Right?
And then once the trees blossom,
I'll take the petals
before they fall,
put 'em in the batch,
that'll balance the flavor.
Then it's ready for
the distributor.
That's new.
Problem?
Seems okay.
I'll double check later
to make sure.
Max.
You know, all this fancy
new equipment is impressive,
but you still never showed me
how this thing works.
You wanna give it a try?
Yeah.
Okay. Fair warning.
It can get a little messy and
it requires some elbow grease.
- I'm ready.
- Okay, girl.
So...
then we just let this sit and
the fermentation does its thing?
Yes, exactly.
Normally, we'd use fresh apples
from the harvest in the fall,
but we had a bunch
in the freezer.
The only thing is,
Dad's very particular about
when and how we use them.
So, we gotta make sure
this batch counts.
We will!
Because it's the "me" batch.
The Max and Elise batch.
- Ahh...
- M. E.
- It's silly.
- No, I like it.
The Max and Elise.
You know, you were right.
This whole physical labor
thing really does
make it feel more magical.
Yeah.
It definitely requires
a lot more work, but...
it's nice to slow things down.
I wish I could
slow down time here.
It's crazy to think
that the trees
will be blossoming soon
and I'll be leaving.
So, you're still leaving?
Well, yeah.
I mean, that's always been
the point of me being here.
I know, but I ju...
I heard that the new buyer
wanted to gut the store,
so I figured maybe...
Where did you hear that?
Molly told Winnie,
who told my dad.
You know the Driftless
rumor mill.
Yeah, well...
it's my only offer, so I don't
really have another option.
Well, you do have
another option.
You could stay
and run the store.
And write.
Max.
No.
It's complicated, I...
I just thought...
that with...
Th-that you might've been
falling back in love with...
Driftless and writing and...
With the store and...
and maybe changed your mind.
I just...
I don't understand
what's holding you back.
You said this place
makes you feel like yourself.
Isn't that what
you're looking for?
I love that when I walk
in that store,
I feel Gram everywhere.
And I don't want that
to go away.
But...
I also don't wanna
run the store day to day.
It's this constant reminder
that I am not a published author
and I probably never will be.
You're... you're using that
as an excuse.
How?
You also said that you don't
wanna run the orchard
because it makes you
feel less than.
It's the same thing.
I thought of all people,
you'd understand.
I think I do.
Loud and clear.
Hard work's paying off.
Hope it makes for
a good harvest.
Look at this beautiful day.
Blossoms in full bloom.
And here you are on a romantic
walk with your son,
when you should be
out here with Winnie.
What's the matter with you,
do I have to coach you?
Come on.
It's festival weekend.
She's swamped.
How'd that date go?
Well, she didn't run
for the hills.
She's really something else,
that lady, I tell you.
Earl Whitman is smitten.
If she can put up with your
stubbornness, she's a keeper.
Oh, Elise.
Glad I caught you.
Hi, Vanessa.
Hey, so the interested buyers
have agreed to hold off
until the festival, but they'll
need a decision for that day.
Sign or they walk away.
No luck finding any other leads?
Not yet. But honestly,
this is a strong offer.
And with that job waiting,
why stay where it won't
get you what you want?
Plus, you don't wanna get
stuck if the market dips.
How can you afford it?
Oh, sorry.
Um, we're looking forward to
those papers coming through.
Vanessa. Hi.
I hear the trees
have fully blossomed.
The ones in the shop
are lagging behind.
They'll catch up.
The trees just
happened overnight.
One day nothing,
next day full blooms.
It's one of life's
little miracles.
Looks like that rain
is on the way.
I just hope it's not strong
enough to mess with the blooms.
I mean, they have to hang on
until the festival this weekend.
Did you update the website?
Oh, I knew I was
forgetting something.
I'm sorry, my head's just
been a little
preoccupied lately.
Oh, you don't say.
I think I really messed
things up with Max.
Maybe there's still
a chance, I just...
I don't know if any of it
actually meant
anything to him, or...
If I'm just wishing it did.
Remember, it's apple
blossom season.
Anything's possible.
Have faith.
Sometimes things have a way
of just working themselves out.
No, no, no, no.
Come on! Come on,
don't do this to me now.
Hey, storm clouds
are rolling in.
You wanna stop
tinkering with that tank
and help me with the orchard?
This valve finally gave.
If-if I don't get
a new one by today,
this whole batch is ruined.
That means the pitch,
the festival, the distributor,
all gone.
Ah, this is what
I worry about, son.
You throw yourself into
the cider business
and the orchard gets put on
the back burner!
I'll be back before
the storm hits, I promise.
There might not be
anything to come back to
if the orchard gets wrecked.
We gotta stake the small trees.
We've got to clear out
that drainage ditch
so the water clears.
- I know.
I know, I know, roots first.
Foundation first.
And I-I agree with you,
But if I don't get this
fixed, then...
Then this was all for nothing.
I-I'm trying to make
something that lasts.
Something that means something.
I get it, you're ambitious.
You're on fire.
But fire burns fast
if it's not tended to.
If you rush, we run the risk
of losing everything
we built here, son.
And what about Elise, huh?
She's counting on you, too.
I'll be back in two hours.
- Two hours?
- Two hours.
I hope you know what
you're doing, son.
Either you're writing your
book or you're sending someone
a very angry email.
I lost a bet, remember?
I can't wait to read it.
Hey, I'm just here
to drop these off
because I can't make it tonight.
Okay, uh...
does this have anything to do
with the other night?
No, no, no, not at all.
It's just the valve
blew on the cider tank.
Oh. I'm sorry.
Yeah, so I have to get a new one
or the whole batch is ruined.
Yeah. Go. Go before
it's too late.
I... look, I would be here,
I wanna be here for you,
but I just, I have to get
the valve, and then I have
to get back before the storm
hits to help Dad, so...
I know, I-I get it.
Thank you.
Oh, and...
just for the record,
I'm bummed you're leaving.
But I totally respect
whatever you feel
you have to do.
And if that means
selling this place...
then I support you.
- Thanks.
- Okay.
Have-have a great book club.
And I can't believe the ex
showed up at the wedding!
I did not see that coming.
Oh!
Hey, how's it looking out there?
Oh, it's getting worse.
A lot of people called me
to say that they couldn't
make it tonight
due to the storm.
So, I went ahead and canceled.
You did the right thing.
Oh, I just got
a flash flood watch.
Do you think the rain will
damage the apple blossoms?
Well, Max said they can
withhold some rain, so, I...
I'm sure it'll be okay.
I think we'd better head out
before the roads get worse.
I'm sorry we can't stay
and clean up.
Oh, don't worry about it.
Get home safe.
- Okay.
- Good night.
'Night.
Come on, come on.
Ah, you gotta be kidding me.
Clover?
It's okay, kitty.
Clover!
Clover!
- Hello?
- Max!
Are you on the road?
No, but I'm outside.
Why?
I got the valve, but then
my engine won't work.
Everything's breaking,
but hold on a sec.
I think I got it.
Ah!
Yes! Back in business.
I'm soaked,
but I'm heading home.
Are you sure?
I think it's too risky.
The roads might flood.
Well, I have to get back.
I left my dad all alone
to take care of everything.
Promise me you'll wait it out.
I promise... I'll be okay.
Hey!
Hey, Clover.
Hey.
Oh. It's okay.
Gram always said,
even long nights have a dawn.
I know.
Long nights can
be scary for everybody.
Especially when there's a storm.
But don't worry,
it's all going to work out.
I can't believe it's all gone.
This place is a mess.
No blossoms.
We're gonna have to cancel
the festival.
I let my dad down,
and I never should've left.
It's not your fault.
I should've just concentrated
on what we had.
Like Dad kept telling me.
Now, no festival,
no signature cider,
and who knows if we even
have crops this year.
You don't know that.
You said yourself, if the bees
did their job properly,
pollination could've
already happened.
Yeah.
Or it all could've been...
blown away.
I guess this just
wasn't our year.
Hi, Elise.
I tried my best,
but no other offers.
If you want to move forward
with the sale,
I need your signature first
thing tomorrow.
Bye.
I don't know, Gram.
What should I do?
My dearest Elise.
If you ever feel lost,
remember to keep
your heart open.
The world has a quiet way
of guiding us.
Through someone's presence,
a fleeting moment,
or my favorite...
a story.
Some signs will be easy to see.
Others so small,
you might almost miss them.
But they're always there.
Waiting to help
you find your way.
And know that no matter what,
I am always with you.
Just believe in yourself
and you will do great things.
Love, Gram.
Love, Gram.
Hey.
Oh, Clover, what do you think?
I don't think all is lost.
We can still use these petals.
I wish I could,
but they're contaminated
as soon as they hit the ground.
But you can boil them.
Make a syrup like you
used to do with your mom.
Take these petals,
the mess, the loss,
and turn it into your comeback.
You can call it
Resilient Blooms.
I really like that.
It's like what was once lost
is the start
of a whole new path.
We can bring this batch
back to life.
And we can still celebrate
with the community.
I mean, this place needs
to be cleaned up, but...
what if we host
the Resilient Blooms Festival
at the bookstore?
I felt like I let Gram down,
not finishing
her Books and Blooms events.
This way, I can close
that chapter properly,
and honor her the way
she deserves.
I love that.
And the ciders,
it's a brilliant idea.
But I don't have enough apples
for a whole 'nother
distribution batch.
What about the frozen stash?
Dad...
I figured out a way to save
that batch for the pitch, but...
I need to use the frozen apples.
It's the only way
it's gonna work...
- No!
- Dad...
- Nope.
Come on.
Son, we need those
apples for emergencies.
That's what this is.
This is an emergency.
No, in case there's
a storm or something,
we have to be able
to fulfill our obligation
to our vendors.
So that we can ensure
that our vendors get delivery.
Okay, okay, let me use
the apples and then together,
we'll rebuild the stash
for the next crisis.
Son, we...
You know, your...
your mother used to say
that you would
grow this business
bigger than I ever could.
I just...
been afraid to let you
really try
because I didn't
want you to slip away.
But that was wrong, son.
And I'm sorry.
Thanks, Dad.
I appreciate that.
But look, Dad.
I'm not going anywhere.
I just wanna be able
to build my own thing,
blaze my own path, and I need
your trust to do that.
You got it, son.
Use the apples.
Hi.
Oh, good to see you again.
- This much?
- Uh-huh.
Okay, that's it,
keep it coming. Gradual.
They brought the blooms back.
No blooms outside?
We bring 'em inside.
What can I say?
This town is resilient.
And you made flower cupcakes.
What? I contain multitudes.
- Hey!
- Hey.
- You made it.
- Yeah.
- How'd it go?
- The buyers loved it.
I used the small batch cider
that we made. Look.
Resilient Blooms Cider.
Every label tells a story.
Delicate, fleeting
and resilient.
Just like you said.
What survives the storm shapes
the story moving forward.
And we're doing limited edition
blossom cider
in 15 state markets.
If that goes well,
then we'll expand from there.
That's amazing.
Wow, I can't believe
it's all over.
You're really leaving?
It's not gonna be
the same without you.
Yeah.
You poured your whole self into
this son, and you made it work.
I'm proud of you.
And you know I'll do
anything I can to help you.
Thanks, Dad.
You know we're gonna
do it right.
We'll do it slow
and steady together.
Good.
Did you notice I dedicated
the elder flower...
to Mom.
It's beautiful, son.
Come here.
That is so nice.
Look.
Welcome, everyone, to the first
Resilient Blooms Festival.
My grandma started this store
because she believed stories
could connect us.
To ourselves,
to each other,
and guide us through
every season of life.
I've felt a little
off-course lately.
But being here,
meeting all of you,
and hearing how my grandma's
curated list of books
always seem to share
the right message
at the right time.
It made me realize
I couldn't let the legacy
of this bookstore
just drift away.
This festival matters,
not because of flowers or books,
but because of the way this
community lifts each other up.
Even in small ways.
We're resilient.
Even fleeting blossoms
bear fruit.
And after this long winter,
I think we all deserve
a little spring.
Gram loved that reminder.
We can always start again.
As many times as we need.
We just need to have faith.
Are you okay?
Yeah.
I was just thinking about how
you're still gonna need
to water the plants every day
so they don't die.
Well, I'm sure the new owner,
whatever they decide
to do with this place,
will appreciate that.
- Yeah.
I think she will.
I didn't sign.
I finally found the home that
I don't wanna run away from.
That's one way
to make it official.
I want to be in a place
where people knew my grandma.
I wanna write my five pages
and more, and I...
I wanna be with you.
Please tell me I didn't
imagine it.
No.
You did not.
I think he approves.
Clover!
expansion thing, huh?
Already in the works, Dad.
Cider's doing so well locally,
I don't see why you have to
try to fix what isn't broken.
Well, sometimes it's good
to get out of your comfort zone.
Well, I like my apples
right where I can see 'em.
And always freeze the extras.
I know, I know,
in case we have a bad year
and don't harvest enough apples.
That's right.
By the way, I went to town.
I ran into Winnie,
and it's official.
The Driftless Bookstore
is going on the market.
- Wow.
- Yeah.
That's the end of an era.
Oh, can you hold that?
Thanks.
Floor eight, please.
Good morning!
Happy first day of spring.
Well, that's not happening.
Another one bites the dust.
I guess I overwatered it.
Didn't inherit my grandma's
green thumb.
Well, maybe
we'll try plastic ones.
More efficient.
Are you, uh, clear on that
purchase order variance report?
Yep. I'll have it ready for you
to review in just a few hours.
Also, since my temp contract
wraps today,
I'm putting together some notes
of where I've left off
on everything.
Yeah. About that.
Follow me.
Have a seat.
You know, Elise,
we are so impressed
with you here.
You're organized, dependable.
You're the best temp
we've ever had.
You catch things in
those inventory reports
that most people overlook.
And that's a real skill.
Which is why we would like to
offer you a full-time role here.
Benefits, stability.
A real career.
Wow. I... I'm flattered.
Thank you.
It's just...
I wasn't planning
on staying in Chicago.
Ah.
So, you are stuck temping
because you keep moving, right?
I suppose.
I just haven't quite found
the place that sticks.
Well, you're good at this.
Really good.
There's room to grow here
if you stay put.
Make Chicago and us your home.
You know what?
You're right.
It's time I stopped drifting.
I would love to accept.
That's the spirit!
I will still need a few weeks
in the Driftless area,
wrapping up my late grandma's
bookstore, though.
No problem, the role starts
in a month.
Take four weeks to get
things settled, and then
we'll need you here ready to go.
Perfect.
I'm finalizing the sale,
and then I'll be out.
But I am excited to see
the apple blossoms
while I'm there.
Apple blossoms?
Uh... like the dessert?
Wow. Cherry blossoms
really do have better PR.
Um, think those,
but on apple trees.
Every spring when
the apple trees bloom,
the town throws a festival.
Local vendors, games,
tractor rides
through the blossoms.
Wow, maybe I'll take my wife.
Sounds like something out of
one of her romance novels.
You know, she's reading
this one author now.
It starts with a T, um...
Tessa Marks?
Yes. That's it.
She loves her.
Well, enough fluff.
Back to business.
You made the smart choice.
We're thrilled to have you
officially on board.
See you in a month.
Hey, are you Elise?
Yeah. Hi.
Um, I'm looking for Molly.
You found her.
Oh, wow.
Hi. Uh,
it's so nice to meet you.
Sorry, I think I was
expecting someone...
Someone older?
- Kinda. Yeah.
- Plot twist, right?
Um, well, I've been
working here since I was 14.
The last manager had to step
away for some family stuff,
so I kinda just stayed on when
I started college nearby.
But my hours are flexible,
so it's worked out.
Hopefully the next owner
doesn't kick me out.
Oh, with your knowledge,
they'd be crazy to.
I think the last time
I worked here
I was a teen myself,
so I might be a little rusty.
Don't judge.
Oh, I only judge on book taste.
Uh-oh. Does romance count
as a personality flaw?
Only if there aren't
enough kissing scenes.
Wow.
Somehow this place
feels exactly the same,
yet completely different.
You know?
Not really.
Hey, those, uh,
planters out front.
Does anyone ever fill them?
Normally we hire someone,
but winter's just thawed,
and I just had my midterms.
- It's on the to-do.
- No worries.
I've got my own to-do list
I'm procrastinating.
I just remember Gram loved
seeing them spill with color
this time of year.
Well, yeah, she definitely
had the touch for it.
We sure do miss her.
The whole town does.
Oh, my goodness!
I left the back door open
to air things out.
I guess he wandered in.
Meet the neighborhood cat.
Um, he just comes
and goes and...
People just let him do
his thing.
But, um, ooh!
Your grandma
would feed him sometimes.
- Really?
- Mm-hmm.
I didn't know she was
a cat person.
Uh, well, I'm gonna go
get settled
at Gram's house next door...
if you're okay for a bit.
Yeah, I'm here
whenever you need.
Perks of spring break.
Thanks.
Sorry I never finished
my book, Gram.
You were always warm
and inspiring,
but I don't think I'll ever be
as good of a storyteller as you.
These books always
help me find my way
when the world is
waking up again.
Plant them with care.
New beginnings grow best
when nurtured together.
I sure miss you, Gram.
You always did have
a way with words.
Can I help you with something?
Hi.
Yeah, I'm looking
for some potted plants
to brighten up the bookstore.
You must be Lorraine's
granddaughter, right?
That obvious?
Well, you have her eyes.
I'm Winnie.
Elise.
You knew my grandma?
Oh, everyone knew Lorraine.
She was the heartbeat
of this town.
I actually helped with
the Apple Blossom Festival
and your grandmother
used to host readings
alongside it.
Oh, yeah.
I actually just found her
Books and Blooms list.
I'm thinking I might host
an event in her honor.
Just one book, something small.
Just a little send off.
How special.
You know, little things have
a way of growing around here.
Actually...
the Book Nook at the festival
was a little tradition
that your grandmother started.
I think it was her way
of putting a-a final,
cozy touch on the whole
Books and Bloom events.
Really? What was it?
Well, it was like, um,
a little reading nook,
but much more than that.
She hid little notes,
surprises or recordings
for anyone who looked closely.
I think she wanted
whoever wandered in to feel
like she left a secret
just for them.
That sounds like Gram.
She inspired all of us.
You know, we would love
to see the Book Nook again
if you could continue it
for the spring festival.
Oh.
I'm not sure.
I might not be here that long.
I'm only here until
the bookstore sells, so...
I think I might just stick to
one Book and Bloom event
for now.
Well, we all pitch in
around here,
so if you do change your mind,
the festival committee
meets every Tuesday
until those trees blossom.
Okay. Good to know.
Uh, so, any idea where I could
get some potted plants?
Yeah. Whitman's Orchards.
They're your best bet.
Do you know how to get there?
I sure do.
Thanks, Winnie.
Okay.
Hi.
Thank you.
Oh, no. No.
No, no, no, no, no.
No, we're not doing this.
- Ah!
- Oh! Oh, gosh.
I am so, so sorry.
Max?
Elise.
Wow.
- Hi.
- Hi.
You're still here?
Well, where else would I be?
It's my family's farm.
Right. Of course.
I just didn't think
you'd still be...
We can't all just run off
without saying goodbye
and disappear.
You should really do something
about your bee problem.
My bee problem?
They pollinate the blossoms.
That's kinda the whole point.
That's how we get the apples.
Maybe if you weren't
drinking something so sweet.
You guys offered it to me.
It's a taster,
just for the entrance.
What do you think of it,
by the way? At least...
what you got to try of it.
Uh, it's good. Fine.
Fine. Great.
I may have wasted
my entire winter
perfecting that recipe.
You made this?
What are you doing back here?
Are you handling
the bookstore sale?
Yeah.
I thought your parents
would take care of that.
Yeah, well, they're off
on a world cruise
enjoying retirement.
They're gone for, like, a year.
- So...
- Ahh.
- Here I am.
- Right, I remember.
Your family never liked to stay
in one place for very long.
No.
Visiting Gram in the summer
was the only constant.
I've never been here
in the spring, it's nice.
You're gonna love it.
Spring's underrated.
And you'll finally get a chance
to see the apple blossoms.
I hope so.
If I'm still here.
But for now, I'm looking
to brighten up the store.
Make it lively.
One last time for Gram.
Are you, uh,
a better gardener now?
I remember you used to kill
everything you touched.
Although I guess you spent
all your time typing away
in the bookstore.
Always writing something.
Uh, yeah.
Something like that.
Um, I'm just gonna use
Gram's notes as a cheat sheet,
and, uh, these will do it.
Wha... are you sure that's
the... the mix you want?
'Cause those don't
really complement...
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Thank you
so much for your help.
And for the bee.
Okay.
Good to see you, Elise.
You, too.
Tell me this one's good.
The brand's story feels generic.
Too heavy on the facts.
Oh. Really?
I tried every angle
I could think of.
You're the distributor,
what do you think we should do?
Buyers want a standout flavor
paired with
a distinguishable story.
Why the orchard, the batch?
Why you?
Okay, well, I can work
on flavor, but...
I'm not a storyteller.
Well, you better
find someone quick.
Otherwise, you could miss
your window.
Okay. Yeah, you're right.
Water daily.
Except when it rains.
But not too much rain.
Not today.
Shade, but only morning shade.
Who is supposed
to remember all of this?
You sure you don't want me to
just hire someone to do this?
This was important to Gram.
I wanna try and do it for her.
- Hey.
- Hi.
Uh, did I leave something
at the orchard?
No, no, no, I just wanted to see
how you're settling in.
Hey.
Are you part of
the gardening committee?
Hard pass.
Well, do you want me to lend
a hand here?
Does no one think I can do this?
That's not what I'm saying.
It's just nice to have some
creative input sometimes.
Actually, that's why I'm here.
I'm wondering if I could get
some of yours.
For what?
That fine cider you tried.
It was really delicious.
I just...
There was a lot happening.
Good. I'm glad you like it.
What was in that sample?
Rhubarb and jasmine.
Fascinating.
It's part of this, uh,
fruit and floral blend
that I'm trying to expand.
But the distributor,
they want a story.
You know, something to sell it.
And I'm not good at that.
But I remembered that you are.
That part of me disappeared
a long time ago.
I'm not the girl for you.
I think you're wrong.
Look, how about this?
We-we do, um...
we do a trade.
I heard you're hosting
a book event.
I help you, and...
you help me with my story.
Kind of, uh, team...
Cider and Blooms.
It's just a small event.
It's nothing big.
The Elise I remember
always did everything big.
I should really
get back to this.
Elise! Big news.
RSVPs for the Books and Blooms
filled up overnight!
What do you mean, "filled up"?
Well, it was so popular,
I added a couple days
for the other books.
- Hi, Max.
- Hi.
But it was just one night.
Just a few people.
Oh, well, don't ask me how
to undo it on the website.
I-I just clicked on something
and everyone got excited.
Spring's a sproutin'
and you are now
a part of the festival,
miss headliner.
Looks like your little thing
just got a whole lot bigger.
So, you liked the cat.
Just a little breakfast.
Don't get too comfy.
I'm not looking for a roommate.
What's this?
Life may feel bare
and empty sometimes.
But that's just winter
doing its job.
Make tea, open a book,
and plant something anyway.
There's always a chance
to start anew.
Gram.
What are you doing?
Good morning, headliner.
How'd you sleep?
Not great, actually.
Apparently, cats have
early schedules.
And gardeners, I see.
I thought I told you
I didn't need any help.
Yeah, but the other day
I noticed that you got
a bunch of fillers,
but no thrillers or spillers.
Thrill-a-what-a-huh?
Thrillers. Tall,
party in the back.
Fillers, fills the dance floor.
Spillers like to show off,
but kinda ties
the whole thing together.
What do you think of these two?
Yeah, you look really good.
Um, they look...
really good together.
- Elise?
Hi.
Vanessa.
Oh, the-the real estate agent.
Hi. I, um, thought
you were coming later.
Well, I was in the neighborhood,
so I figured I'd stop by,
introduce myself
and take a quick photo.
Potential buyer is interested
in seeing the details
of the shelves inside.
Wow! Someone's
already interested.
- Mm-hmm.
- That's great.
Uh, the faster, the better.
Yeah. Fantastic.
- Hey, Max.
- Hey, Vanessa.
- How you doing?
- Good.
Oh. We're hugging.
Elise, you're in good hands
with Vanessa.
She's a real real estate shark.
Oh.
Oh, it's so sweet
that Max is helping you out.
Um, actually,
I've asked him not to.
Well, we're working out a deal.
- A little quid pro quo thing.
- Oh...
Speaking of deals,
a quick photo? Be right back.
I appreciate your plant
enthusiasm, but I don't wanna
take your services for free.
- I don't mind. I want...
- All set!
I'm hoping to have that
paperwork to you soon.
Amazing. Thanks.
Yeah, I have another showing
to get to, but I'll be in touch.
Great.
Uh, you know, I think
I've got this whole
thrill, fill, spill thing.
So, um...
Once I have my morning coffee,
I'll, uh, get to it.
Okay.
Well, I'm-I'm headed
to the caf to get coffee.
Do you wanna come?
I'll get you a coffee.
They have amazing coffee.
Um...
- For coffee?
- For the coffee.
- Sure.
- Great.
Let me just, uh, get changed.
You look great! Oh. Okay.
Spring showers...
Bring May flowers.
That's right.
So what's the deal
with this mystery cat
who decided to wake you up?
- I don't know!
He showed up my first day here
and waltzed into the store
like he owned the place.
Well, you know, some people
say it's an honor
if a cat chooses you.
Yeah, well, I'm not
looking to get attached.
It sounds like he's just
a neighborhood wanderer
who's got a taste
for free snacks.
Okay. So, your quid pro quo.
You're looking for inspiration
for the distributor.
What have you pitched so far?
Um...
So, fermentation stats,
ratios, fruit blends.
All the riveting stuff that
only I find exciting.
Well, maybe it's not about
what's in it,
but where it's from.
You used to love showing me
what was so special
about the Driftless area
when I'd come to visit.
You just have to tell it
in your own words.
See?
You still have that gift.
I'm just talking.
No, no, you...
You could always see
what other people missed.
You would've got
there eventually.
Maybe. But...
I wouldn't mind
figuring it out with you.
If you'll accept my offer.
I'm just too busy.
And it looks like
the sale on the store
might close sooner
than expected.
Okay.
Should we make a run for it?
Yeah.
- Hey, Molly.
- Hi.
We got new books in.
Have you read this one?
Uh...
The cat dug up the clover again.
Maybe it was the bunnies?
They love snacking on it
this time of year.
Nice try. I caught him
red-handed earlier.
It was definitely the cat.
Oh, thanks for updating this.
Oh. No prob.
I wanted all the displays
looking good
for the morning crowd.
Wow, this is dangerous.
Wait.
What if we served these
with tea?
Small tables, cozy book chat,
so I don't have to lead
the talk.
An introvert's dream.
I'm in.
Where did you get these?
You're looking at her.
Stop! Really?
What? Baking's punk now.
Hey, do you think you'll be
able to bake for the event?
I love a good deadline.
You're on.
Amazing.
Bare Branches! That's fun!
Where did this come from?
Just a little burst
of inspiration.
I figured people could
write notes
and fill in their own blossoms.
Love that idea.
Something's missing.
Maybe Gram would have an idea?
Life may feel bare
and empty sometimes,
but that's just
winter doing its job.
Make tea, open a book,
and plant something anyway.
There's always a chance
to start anew.
There's always a chance
to start anew.
I have to make something right.
This is my chance
to plant something fresh.
Like the flowers
you're trying to do?
No. I mean, yes,
but more so metaphorically.
Like, in life.
I'm sick of being stuck
in winter.
Yeah.
Show winter who's boss.
- Hi again.
- Hey.
Didn't expect to see you
out here.
I was setting things up at
the bookstore, and it hit me.
I've been getting in my own way,
and earlier was kind of proof.
I want to help you,
I do, I just...
My writing so far
has consisted mostly
of rejection letters
and false starts.
And...
When you mentioned story,
it... hit a nerve.
I guess I'm afraid to feel
like I'm failing again.
Yeah, I get that.
But, you know, maybe
it's good to look at it
not as failing,
but learning, growing.
Just moving forward.
Yeah.
I wanna try again.
I just...
Right now I feel like these.
Bare, exposed.
Here.
Put these offshoots
in some water.
They'll blossom in no time.
How long does that take?
Depends.
Whenever they're ready.
So, what do you say?
Team Cider and Blooms round two?
Now, are you just saying this
because you couldn't
figure out those planters?
That.
And I miss how we used to do
things together.
Yeah.
Yeah, I do too.
All right, I'm in.
I'm in.
Great! Where should we start?
Whoo!
The weather can't decide
what it wants to do.
It's raining, it's sunny,
now it is raining.
Oh, my God!
Is that our little Elise
all grown up?
Come here.
Oh, wait a second.
- I'm soaking wet.
- I don't mind.
Aww, come here. Mmm!
Wow. It is good to see you.
You do that just like your Gram.
I feel her presence
every time I'm in here.
You know, it is so great
you're doing the...
the bookstore
for one last season.
You gonna join the festival
committee too?
Because I'd really like to get
my Book Nook back.
I might try to make
the next one.
But first I have to get
through this event tonight.
Oh, I hope I don't faint.
Oh, nonsense!
I will splash you
with water if I have to.
I might buy
a ticket to see that.
Oh, I'll get you
right now for free!
No, I'm already wet! Stop.
Oh, I do love a good
spring sun shower.
Oh, yeah, I do too.
As long as it's not too strong
and knocks the blossom
off the tree.
- That can happen?
Oh, sure, that could happen.
But it's part of the process.
I mean, you need rain
for things to grow.
Hey, Dad, I just, uh,
set up in there,
if you wanna bring
the chairs in.
And then I have a few more
in the truck.
Sorry about all the puddles.
Oh, I came prepared.
Sorry, I'm in your way.
Oh, I loved doing all this
with your Gram.
It brings back such
great memories.
I stayed up all night,
but I did it!
Wow, Molly,
this looks incredible!
Don't you have some notes
to work on?
We can arrange this.
Okay. Thanks.
Why do you look so nervous?
You're great with people.
What do you have
to be afraid of?
One on one? Sure.
But this was my grandma's thing.
I like living stories
in my head.
Not out loud.
Like when I invented a whole
fake romance between us
when we were teens.
- Really?
Which I never told you about,
so you didn't know.
Well, at least your
imagination has good taste.
I have an idea.
Come with me.
No way.
- It's still here?
- Still here.
What do you say?
Oh, don't even.
Come on! One swing.
It'll clear your mind.
I'm still way
too short for this thing.
Well, lucky for you, I'm tall.
I'll steady it.
Giddy up!
Okay.
Look at that... oh!
It's like riding a bike.
- Okay, if this thing snaps...
- See? It all comes back.
- You are carrying me back.
- Deal.
Oh, my gosh. Okay.
- Okay.
- Okay, okay.
Oh! Oh, oh.
I got you, I got you, I got you.
I got you, I got you.
- I got you.
- Thank you.
You're welcome.
So, mind clear?
Yeah, actually.
I feel like I'm 15 again.
Perfect!
Thank you.
I needed that.
I feel more like myself here.
Yeah, Driftless
will do that to you.
You know, I was thinking
about your situation,
and it's kind of like, um,
Tonight's book.
The Year of Waiting.
How Charles, he's not happy
with his
circumstances, but he keeps
moving forward,
even though he's afraid.
I could see some similarities
between your situation.
You read the book?
Yeah, of course I read the book.
It's-it's your big night.
Sounds like you should be
leading the discussion.
Mmm.
No, I'm just recycling
your insights.
Hmm.
I guess I'm full of wisdom
you didn't know you needed.
But, yeah. Okay.
I can kinda see
the parallel here.
Don't you just love-hate
when a story
holds up a mirror like that.
I love that you love it.
Okay.
Am I crazy or is there...
a vibe between...
Your dad and-and Winnie?
Or am I just making up
love stories in my head again?
No. No, no, no, no.
You're-you're not crazy.
There's definitely a vibe.
Everybody sees it
except for them.
Okay, I should probably
get back and finish
all the last-minute things.
Thanks.
- I'll see you later.
- See you later.
It's a great turnout.
Mm-hmm.
I guess people really
miss book club.
Yeah.
- May I come in?
- Mm-hmm.
Your Gram would be so proud
of you.
Breathe in with me.
Count of four.
Hold.
Out for four.
Good.
- Okay.
- Okay.
- I'm ready.
- Go get 'em.
Welcome, everyone.
It is my honor to bring back my
grandma's favorite tradition.
She loved apple blossom season.
After a long winter,
it reminded her that
something beautiful was coming,
even if it was fleeting.
And that's what
this story reflects.
The hope,
the waiting,
and the quiet courage
it takes to believe that
something new is possible.
She believed there is
greatness all around us,
and had faith in the unexpected.
On your tables, you'll find
little slips of paper.
Write a literary love note.
Something the book
made you feel,
or something from your heart,
and hang it on our paper tree.
We'll make our own
blossoms inside.
Oh, and a huge shout-out
to Molly Teller,
our resident rock star with
the best book recommendations,
who also made all of
the amazing treats tonight.
Thank you.
Incoming!
New shipments.
I caught Molly wrestling
these outside.
Figured I'd lend a hand.
Whoa. What is that about?
Oh, just thought he'd like
something comfy
for when he pops by.
- Oh.
- What?
It's temporary.
Denial is the first step
of cat ownership.
He's here more than some of
your regulars.
Does he have a name yet?
What do the neighbors call him?
Oh, he's such a drifter.
Never sticks around long enough
for anyone to name him.
But I guess you're
the exception.
Hmm.
What name suits you?
You're always creeping,
but it's cute.
Chirping at birds.
Digging up plants.
Yeah, the white clover.
Wait.
What about Clover?
He's lucky he found you.
Hey.
You like the name Clover?
I bet your grandmother
would've loved it.
Oh, I'm so glad that
shipment came in.
I can't find Gram's copy
anywhere, so I'll just have
to jot my notes down
in a blank one.
Oh, this title's been
flying off the shelves.
I'm glad we got the restock.
Uh, Molly, would you
finish unboxing these?
I'm gonna go work on Max's
brand story with him.
Consider it handled.
Thanks.
Max, your dad's pizza night
at the taproom
is tonight, right?
Yep. Every Friday.
Whole band, pizza, dancing.
It's gonna be fun.
Uh, well, I would love
to treat you all
as a thanks for helping with
the events, if you're free.
Well, Earl already
invited me to come hang,
so I'll be there.
- Count me in.
- Alright.
See you tonight.
Well, this is new.
Mm-hmm. Much to
Dad's disapproval.
Okay.
So...
this...
is kind of my baby.
It's slow, manual, but it pulls
flavors like nothing else.
It's not great for
mass production,
so it doesn't get used
as much as it should.
And over here,
we have my spring batch.
So, I've got elderflower,
huckleberry and raspberry.
Wow. It smells amazing in here.
How do you decide
what to try next?
Instinct mostly.
But, um...
some flavors just kinda grab me.
Others come from experimentation
and then others it's just
from whatever's in season.
There's inspiration everywhere.
There's no names yet,
maybe you can help with that.
Mmm.
Tastes like...
A kiss waiting to happen.
I like it.
I'll put a warning label on it.
Sweetened with honey,
with a side of swooning.
Honey.
That's it. Honey kiss.
Honey kiss.
Now, this one is, um, raspberry.
This reminded me of...
do you remember that summer
that we went
picking wild raspberries
and that bear showed up?
You remember that?
Yeah, of course. I've never
seen you run that fast.
I don't think that's
the recommended
survival strategy.
We survived,
that's what's important.
Tastes like a narrow escape.
You certainly think like
a storyteller.
Okay, now this is
the elderberry.
Let me know what
you think of this.
Hmm.
Tart.
But it settles.
Makes you wanna go back for more
Like an ex you give
a second chance to.
Second chance.
That's good.
That's really good.
You've got a way with words.
A little less daunting
than a 300-page novel.
Yeah, speaking of which...
When you were unpacking,
I noticed you paused
at one book.
Is everything okay?
Yeah. Um...
-That author, Tessa Marks,
-Mm-hmm.
We were writing buddies
in grad school.
We used to share drafts,
snacks, dreams.
And then what happened?
Life happened.
Gram got sick.
Went through a breakup.
More rejection letters, I...
I started to lose momentum
as Tessa took off.
I felt like I was holding
her back, so I pulled away.
I'm proud of her.
I am.
It's just hard when it
represents a life you wanted,
you know?
Right.
Well, your story isn't over yet.
I gave myself five years to
finish my draft by this spring.
I haven't touched it.
But I also never
let it go, so...
I've just been drifting.
All the way to Driftless.
How poetic.
At this point, I've lost belief
that I can even do it.
I have wasted too many years,
and it's time to move on.
But, hey.
You get me for one last
creative sprint.
So, I wanna hear more
about your passion.
Your vision.
Okay. Um...
Oh, have I shown you the merch?
Okay.
It's inspiring being out here
makes me feel connected
to something
much bigger than myself.
It's a powerful thing.
It's kinda like my canvas.
Because you're an artist.
Oh, I don't know about that.
Maybe, uh, a mad scientist.
Nah. You write with taste
instead of words.
Tell that to my dad.
He never really understood
my creative impulses.
He supports you.
He just doesn't understand
the way you're wired.
But there's more to you
than making good recipes.
I'll keep digging.
What? Here, I thought
I was an open book,
but are you saying
I'm a closed barrel?
Not tightly sealed.
Promise.
They're back from a long winter.
It's so beautiful.
It really is.
Thank you all for your help
with the bookstore events.
It means so much and I know
Gram would be proud.
Aww.
- Alright. Cheers.
- Cheers.
So, what's next on the schedule?
Poetry night.
It's time to get deep
and dramatic.
So, the mic will be open
for people to read from
the poetry collection.
Or if inspiration strikes,
read something original.
I'm secretly hoping
someone does.
Has anyone here ever written
a poem or been given one?
Oh, that would be nice, but...
that wasn't my husband's thing.
Henry would show me his love
in his own quiet ways.
Anyway, enough of that.
Isn't anyone going to dance?
You two, go on.
Get up there.
- We'll guard the table.
- Yeah.
- You want to?
- Go for it.
- Sure.
- Come on, have some fun.
Show 'em the moves I taught you.
Yeah.
It's nice that your dad embraces
the cider with his taproom.
Well...
I mean, he's okay with it
locally, but...
any more expansion than that,
then I don't know.
He...
I think he's just scared
of change.
You know...
I can't believe I was so dense
and didn't realize that
you felt that way about me.
I just thought...
I don't know,
I thought we were...
We were friends.
We were so close, I didn't...
I didn't know you had
those feelings.
Yeah, well...
I'm pretty sure every girl
had a crush on you.
I just kept mine
as a story in my head.
All the stories in your head.
You know, I-I'd love to read
that manuscript.
Can you tell me what it's about?
Oh, I... I can
hardly even remember.
Okay. I'll keep digging.
Okay.
- It's about a teen love story.
- Mm-hmm.
And it takes place
in a small farming town.
Nothing like Driftless.
And lead boy is not
based on anyone I know.
Now... I definitely have
to read it.
It's not finished. Remember?
You should finish it.
Yes! I'm so invested.
The character arcs are
building beautifully.
Can't wait to read
the next chapter.
XO, Tessa.
Oh, sweet girl.
Oh, yeah.
Um, Vanessa dropped this off.
Oh. Thanks.
Yeah, she said the buyers are
part of some development group
buying up all the local stores
in the county.
Why doesn't that sound like
a good thing?
Because it's not.
They wanna gut
the bookstore completely
and turn it into condos.
Let your faith guide you
on the journey.
It knows the way.
Hey, Elise.
Got a minute?
Hi. Yeah, sure.
Just following up on the offer.
Did you get a chance
to review it?
I did.
I'm wondering if we can
wait until after
the Apple Blossom Festival.
I'll still be here then,
and I would love
if we could try to find
someone to buy this as-is.
Keep it a bookstore.
It's a really generous offer.
We don't want them backing out.
I know, but...
do you think you could
try to buy us some time?
Just see if there's
any other interest.
I really think it's
the right thing.
I'll see what I can do.
Thanks.
Hey. Sorry I'm late.
Oh, hey.
For any of you who haven't
met her yet, this is Elise.
We now have the Book Nook back.
Perfect timing.
We were just about to get
the blossom report.
Oh, yeah.
Blossom report.
Alright.
Well, uh, they're
a tight cluster.
Should be ready to blossom
in a couple of days.
Great. I will update
the tracker on the website.
Uh...
Winnie, last time you uploaded
a picture of your elbow.
That was one time.
Three times.
Are you tracking me
or the blossoms?
Um...
Well, if the website
ever does behave,
I have a few Book Nook updates.
I'm putting together
curated sets of stories,
and in each set,
there will be something hidden.
Think of it as literary
Easter eggs for those
who like to look close.
And for anyone looking
for inspiration.
Okay!
Just like your Gram used to say,
sometimes small things
can make the biggest impact.
That concludes our meeting.
Coffee?
Sure.
One cream, two sugars,
stirred clockwise.
Don't ask why I remember that.
You two seem to be
getting along awfully well.
She's really something else.
I mean, she keeps me on my,
on my toes.
Last time someone did that
was your-your mother.
Both strong women.
You'd do well to pay attention.
What do you mean by that?
I think you know
what I mean by that, Dad.
No, I'm not sure what
you mean by that.
What, err...
You know, sometimes I find
it hard to say things out loud,
but it's easier to write
my thoughts down.
The next Books and Blooms
event theme is courage.
Maybe I could help you turn
your thoughts into a poem.
A poem?
Oh, no. No, no. No, I-I...
leave that to the professionals.
Oh, it doesn't
have to be perfect.
Share what's in your heart.
Well, I'll-I'll just
leave you two to it and, uh...
Hey, listen, don't forget to
check the south gate irrigation.
- It's been acting up.
- I know, I know.
- Alright?
- Yep. I'm on it.
Good.
I didn't mean to push him.
Do you think he's upset?
No. No, no, no, that was fine.
It's... that's just his
defense mechanism. He deflects.
But I saw a little glimmer
in his eye.
I bet he'll think about it.
And it doesn't bother you
to see him dating someone else?
Oh, no, no. Not at all.
My mom passed away
a long time ago.
I just want him to be happy.
Are you, uh, ready to get
started on those flowers
for the bookstore?
- Yeah.
I have some stuff
set up over here.
Look at these brave little guys.
Gram sure did love these.
Yes, she did.
Oh, um...
Stay cool.
Stay cool,
but your friend is back.
- No, no.
- It's okay.
Tell him to go over to
the blossoms, stay away from me!
I got it. There you go.
Buzz off!
They love those blossoms.
- Hmm.
- They're so sweet.
Did you know that you
could eat the petals?
- Of the apple blossoms?
- Yeah.
You put 'em in tea
or baked goods.
They're surprisingly good.
Wait, Max.
Why don't you use them
as your standout cider flavor?
That's a really good idea.
That's a really good idea.
You know, you're a genius.
Has anybody ever told you that?
How did I not think of that?
'Cause you didn't have me.
Ah.
That's right.
She's modest too.
I think these "blind date
with a book" baskets
are gonna turn out great.
Hopefully they're a hit
after poetry night.
I am so excited for
the discussions.
I have all of my notes
right here.
Hey. What's wrong?
You look like you're
about to confess to a crime.
Honestly, kinda feels like one.
Oh, no. What happened?
Remember that pastry workshop
I was telling you about?
Yeah.
They moved it to tonight.
Like, tonight-tonight?
During the poetry reading?
And I can't be in
two places at once.
I feel like I can't turn down
this opportunity either.
Hey, Molly.
You have helped keep
this place afloat, and...
you've earned the right
to chase your own things.
Okay, well, I'm gonna help you
until I have to leave.
Okay.
Look at this.
Book Club's a success.
You think you'll ever get
used to being the main event?
Honestly, it's growing on me.
Wait, where's my copy?
I need to find it.
Uh, it's not in these?
It's gotta be
around here somewhere.
Well, could it be in
one of the boxes? Or...
Oh...
Mine was the one
with all the tabs.
I had every discussion point
in there.
Okay, so...
What are you gonna do?
I'm gonna have to improvise.
Welcome, everyone.
Uh, I had notes to guide us
on today's discussion, but...
my copy's gone missing.
So, we're just gonna
roll with it.
Meet my co-host,
and the new Driftless
bookstore mascot,
Clover the cat.
Clover just...
wandered in one day
and refused to leave.
Oh, everyone give it up for Max,
who provided the delicious
cider and tonight's
plant pairing, the crocus.
Look what I found.
It's okay, I'll use
the new copy.
I think you're gonna
wanna read from this.
This belonged to my grandma.
I had planned on reading one of
my favorite
poems tonight, but...
I think I'll read something
Gram once wrote instead.
Courage isn't the shout
of certainty.
It's the whisper
that says, "try anyway".
Some of the best
things I ever did
started before I was ready.
Falling in love,
becoming a mother,
and opening this bookstore.
The scariest things
cracked my soul open.
So, take the leap.
Again and again.
Alright.
Who wants to share?
Thank you.
Is there anyone else?
Oh. Excuse me.
Most of you folks are reading
from the poetry book.
But I thought I'd try to, uh...
write one myself, and, uh...
Believe me,
I'm no writer, but...
Well, here it goes.
I thought one love
was all I'd get.
Frozen heart.
No room for regret.
But then you walked in.
Changed my plan.
Life nudged me.
Said, "go on".
Try again.
It's never too late
to try something new.
I guess even old roots...
can bloom again too.
Yeah!
Your poem was spectacular.
- Really?
- Yeah.
What do you say
your something new
is taking me out
on a date tomorrow?
I'd love that.
Another success.
For me or your dad?
Well, I meant for
the bookstore, but...
yeah, he did good.
- Yeah.
- So did you.
Hey, I noticed you tonight
recommending Tessa's book.
Yeah. I mean,
she's a great writer.
And, you know, having all
these book discussions
has really made me realize how
much I miss writing with her.
Sharing ideas.
Talking it all through.
You should reach out to her.
See if you guys can pick up
where you left off.
I don't know.
There's a lot to unpack
and what if she doesn't
wanna hear from me?
I don't think I'm ready
to make that call.
Well, I've heard
this thing about courage.
A great poet once said,
Sometimes you have to leap
before you're ready.
Wise words.
- Uh-huh.
I don't think
I can do this alone.
Can you girls help me get ready?
Right, it's the big date night.
Of course.
Let's go to the apartment.
Thanks. Just don't wanna
embarrass myself.
Don't worry, we'll make sure
you look and feel your best.
Oh, hold on there, hold your
horses there, lover boy.
What?
This is no good.
Oh, I've been dressing myself
for 60 years.
Yeah, but not for Winnie.
And not in the modern era,
obviously.
Hey, son. I hope
you're okay with this.
Mom's annoyed
you waited this long.
She's looking down on us,
smiling.
I'm just glad you're happy.
Good.
You got a gift or something?
Yeah.
No flowers?
Oh, come on.
Flowers are gaudy.
It's a bold move!
Well, what do you think?
Oh, I don't know.
- You look amazing!
- You look incredible!
I-I like it, I do.
It's just...
I'm just so very,
very out of practice.
Am I missing anything?
I've got an idea.
Something to tie it
all together.
It was Gram's.
Lorraine talked me off
so many ledges
when I first started
dating Henry.
She knew exactly
how to calm my nerves.
Still does.
Thank you.
I love it.
Oh...
It's for your tea.
I love a practical
non-fussy gift.
Thank you.
Well, that was adorable.
Do you have plans?
No.
Great. I have
a surprise for you.
Okay.
I was thinking about
your idea of a perfect date.
Is this outdoorsy
enough for you? The right...
Honestly? You nailed it.
Okay, we've got your
blind date books...
So, which one will it be?
Reverse Uno.
I already know what's in there.
Touch. Alright.
Uh, if you like fake dating
with wedding chaos.
If you like secrets
in sleepy towns.
I'm going sleepy towns.
Not a fan of romance?
No, I like romance.
Just in real life.
I think I'm better at
reading it than living it.
Aw, I don't know about that.
Hey, it's the-the book.
I noticed you-you picked that
for the next book club.
Yeah.
And I actually called her today
to tell her.
No way.
Thank you for encouraging me.
It was really nice
to catch up with her.
Good for you.
It also made me realize that
I don't have to be
so guarded with my story.
It's okay if someone hears it.
She even offered to read
my book,
if I ever pick it up again.
What do you mean
if you ever pick it up?
You're gonna pick it up again.
It's crazy to think that
the trees are about to blossom.
- Mmm.
- It feels like
just a couple weeks ago,
they were bare branches.
When do you think it'll happen?
Um. I'm gonna say three days.
What?
You wanna bet?
Okay.
Three days.
No way.
Too soon.
I will give it a week.
One week. Okay.
And what are the stakes?
If I win, you have
to name a cider after me.
Full distribution.
Deal.
And if I win,
you have to write
five pages of your book.
Just five.
Just to get started.
Curveball.
Okay. Deal.
So, tell me about this flavor.
Mmm.
Elderflower.
My mom, she used to grow
elderflower every spring.
And...
I have these memories
of us making, um,
syrup infused with it.
So, when I started
making cider, I knew that
that had to be
a part of the base.
It's, um...
I don't know, sort of nostalgic,
I guess.
That's it.
What?
Every flavor should have
a story.
Not just a taste, but a memory
that the customer can step into.
And each label
could tell the story.
It's not just a berry.
It's about being chased through
the woods to find the best one.
It's making syrup
in the kitchen with your mom.
It's placing silly bets
on when the blossoms
will finally bloom
with someone you...
care about.
That's so good.
That's really good.
I-I...
Thank you, I...
I don't think
I could've explained...
what this place
means to me without,
without your help.
Thank you.
You're a genius.
You're-you're a real...
you're an artist.
I-I should probably go.
-But I'm so glad I could help
-What, now? No!
With the story.
Wha...
Are you sure?
I thought we could...
Yeah, thank you
so much for tonight.
Okay.
Um...
Sure, um...
I'll, um, can I walk you
to the door?
Okay.
Okay, team. Well,
it's our final week of prep.
Looks like those trees
are gonna blossom any day now.
I would love to get
an update from everybody.
Molly, you wanna start?
I'm testing the floral bouquet
designs on cupcakes tonight.
And the Book Nook
is almost ready.
I just have
to finish the banner.
Great. And, Max, any word
about a distributor?
Pitching in a few days, but, um,
I'll let you know when I do.
We should be good, though,
because Elise helped me
with the story.
Earl, any last words?
If everybody stays on track,
we'll be ready for the blossoms.
- Great.
- Alright.
Let's go.
Thanks for the shout out.
Oh, yeah. Of course.
I mean, I'd be freaking out
without you.
Hey, I have a new batch.
Do you wanna give it a try?
I'd love your notes.
- Yeah. Okay.
- Yeah.
Mmm.
- That is a great base.
- Right?
And then once the trees blossom,
I'll take the petals
before they fall,
put 'em in the batch,
that'll balance the flavor.
Then it's ready for
the distributor.
That's new.
Problem?
Seems okay.
I'll double check later
to make sure.
Max.
You know, all this fancy
new equipment is impressive,
but you still never showed me
how this thing works.
You wanna give it a try?
Yeah.
Okay. Fair warning.
It can get a little messy and
it requires some elbow grease.
- I'm ready.
- Okay, girl.
So...
then we just let this sit and
the fermentation does its thing?
Yes, exactly.
Normally, we'd use fresh apples
from the harvest in the fall,
but we had a bunch
in the freezer.
The only thing is,
Dad's very particular about
when and how we use them.
So, we gotta make sure
this batch counts.
We will!
Because it's the "me" batch.
The Max and Elise batch.
- Ahh...
- M. E.
- It's silly.
- No, I like it.
The Max and Elise.
You know, you were right.
This whole physical labor
thing really does
make it feel more magical.
Yeah.
It definitely requires
a lot more work, but...
it's nice to slow things down.
I wish I could
slow down time here.
It's crazy to think
that the trees
will be blossoming soon
and I'll be leaving.
So, you're still leaving?
Well, yeah.
I mean, that's always been
the point of me being here.
I know, but I ju...
I heard that the new buyer
wanted to gut the store,
so I figured maybe...
Where did you hear that?
Molly told Winnie,
who told my dad.
You know the Driftless
rumor mill.
Yeah, well...
it's my only offer, so I don't
really have another option.
Well, you do have
another option.
You could stay
and run the store.
And write.
Max.
No.
It's complicated, I...
I just thought...
that with...
Th-that you might've been
falling back in love with...
Driftless and writing and...
With the store and...
and maybe changed your mind.
I just...
I don't understand
what's holding you back.
You said this place
makes you feel like yourself.
Isn't that what
you're looking for?
I love that when I walk
in that store,
I feel Gram everywhere.
And I don't want that
to go away.
But...
I also don't wanna
run the store day to day.
It's this constant reminder
that I am not a published author
and I probably never will be.
You're... you're using that
as an excuse.
How?
You also said that you don't
wanna run the orchard
because it makes you
feel less than.
It's the same thing.
I thought of all people,
you'd understand.
I think I do.
Loud and clear.
Hard work's paying off.
Hope it makes for
a good harvest.
Look at this beautiful day.
Blossoms in full bloom.
And here you are on a romantic
walk with your son,
when you should be
out here with Winnie.
What's the matter with you,
do I have to coach you?
Come on.
It's festival weekend.
She's swamped.
How'd that date go?
Well, she didn't run
for the hills.
She's really something else,
that lady, I tell you.
Earl Whitman is smitten.
If she can put up with your
stubbornness, she's a keeper.
Oh, Elise.
Glad I caught you.
Hi, Vanessa.
Hey, so the interested buyers
have agreed to hold off
until the festival, but they'll
need a decision for that day.
Sign or they walk away.
No luck finding any other leads?
Not yet. But honestly,
this is a strong offer.
And with that job waiting,
why stay where it won't
get you what you want?
Plus, you don't wanna get
stuck if the market dips.
How can you afford it?
Oh, sorry.
Um, we're looking forward to
those papers coming through.
Vanessa. Hi.
I hear the trees
have fully blossomed.
The ones in the shop
are lagging behind.
They'll catch up.
The trees just
happened overnight.
One day nothing,
next day full blooms.
It's one of life's
little miracles.
Looks like that rain
is on the way.
I just hope it's not strong
enough to mess with the blooms.
I mean, they have to hang on
until the festival this weekend.
Did you update the website?
Oh, I knew I was
forgetting something.
I'm sorry, my head's just
been a little
preoccupied lately.
Oh, you don't say.
I think I really messed
things up with Max.
Maybe there's still
a chance, I just...
I don't know if any of it
actually meant
anything to him, or...
If I'm just wishing it did.
Remember, it's apple
blossom season.
Anything's possible.
Have faith.
Sometimes things have a way
of just working themselves out.
No, no, no, no.
Come on! Come on,
don't do this to me now.
Hey, storm clouds
are rolling in.
You wanna stop
tinkering with that tank
and help me with the orchard?
This valve finally gave.
If-if I don't get
a new one by today,
this whole batch is ruined.
That means the pitch,
the festival, the distributor,
all gone.
Ah, this is what
I worry about, son.
You throw yourself into
the cider business
and the orchard gets put on
the back burner!
I'll be back before
the storm hits, I promise.
There might not be
anything to come back to
if the orchard gets wrecked.
We gotta stake the small trees.
We've got to clear out
that drainage ditch
so the water clears.
- I know.
I know, I know, roots first.
Foundation first.
And I-I agree with you,
But if I don't get this
fixed, then...
Then this was all for nothing.
I-I'm trying to make
something that lasts.
Something that means something.
I get it, you're ambitious.
You're on fire.
But fire burns fast
if it's not tended to.
If you rush, we run the risk
of losing everything
we built here, son.
And what about Elise, huh?
She's counting on you, too.
I'll be back in two hours.
- Two hours?
- Two hours.
I hope you know what
you're doing, son.
Either you're writing your
book or you're sending someone
a very angry email.
I lost a bet, remember?
I can't wait to read it.
Hey, I'm just here
to drop these off
because I can't make it tonight.
Okay, uh...
does this have anything to do
with the other night?
No, no, no, not at all.
It's just the valve
blew on the cider tank.
Oh. I'm sorry.
Yeah, so I have to get a new one
or the whole batch is ruined.
Yeah. Go. Go before
it's too late.
I... look, I would be here,
I wanna be here for you,
but I just, I have to get
the valve, and then I have
to get back before the storm
hits to help Dad, so...
I know, I-I get it.
Thank you.
Oh, and...
just for the record,
I'm bummed you're leaving.
But I totally respect
whatever you feel
you have to do.
And if that means
selling this place...
then I support you.
- Thanks.
- Okay.
Have-have a great book club.
And I can't believe the ex
showed up at the wedding!
I did not see that coming.
Oh!
Hey, how's it looking out there?
Oh, it's getting worse.
A lot of people called me
to say that they couldn't
make it tonight
due to the storm.
So, I went ahead and canceled.
You did the right thing.
Oh, I just got
a flash flood watch.
Do you think the rain will
damage the apple blossoms?
Well, Max said they can
withhold some rain, so, I...
I'm sure it'll be okay.
I think we'd better head out
before the roads get worse.
I'm sorry we can't stay
and clean up.
Oh, don't worry about it.
Get home safe.
- Okay.
- Good night.
'Night.
Come on, come on.
Ah, you gotta be kidding me.
Clover?
It's okay, kitty.
Clover!
Clover!
- Hello?
- Max!
Are you on the road?
No, but I'm outside.
Why?
I got the valve, but then
my engine won't work.
Everything's breaking,
but hold on a sec.
I think I got it.
Ah!
Yes! Back in business.
I'm soaked,
but I'm heading home.
Are you sure?
I think it's too risky.
The roads might flood.
Well, I have to get back.
I left my dad all alone
to take care of everything.
Promise me you'll wait it out.
I promise... I'll be okay.
Hey!
Hey, Clover.
Hey.
Oh. It's okay.
Gram always said,
even long nights have a dawn.
I know.
Long nights can
be scary for everybody.
Especially when there's a storm.
But don't worry,
it's all going to work out.
I can't believe it's all gone.
This place is a mess.
No blossoms.
We're gonna have to cancel
the festival.
I let my dad down,
and I never should've left.
It's not your fault.
I should've just concentrated
on what we had.
Like Dad kept telling me.
Now, no festival,
no signature cider,
and who knows if we even
have crops this year.
You don't know that.
You said yourself, if the bees
did their job properly,
pollination could've
already happened.
Yeah.
Or it all could've been...
blown away.
I guess this just
wasn't our year.
Hi, Elise.
I tried my best,
but no other offers.
If you want to move forward
with the sale,
I need your signature first
thing tomorrow.
Bye.
I don't know, Gram.
What should I do?
My dearest Elise.
If you ever feel lost,
remember to keep
your heart open.
The world has a quiet way
of guiding us.
Through someone's presence,
a fleeting moment,
or my favorite...
a story.
Some signs will be easy to see.
Others so small,
you might almost miss them.
But they're always there.
Waiting to help
you find your way.
And know that no matter what,
I am always with you.
Just believe in yourself
and you will do great things.
Love, Gram.
Love, Gram.
Hey.
Oh, Clover, what do you think?
I don't think all is lost.
We can still use these petals.
I wish I could,
but they're contaminated
as soon as they hit the ground.
But you can boil them.
Make a syrup like you
used to do with your mom.
Take these petals,
the mess, the loss,
and turn it into your comeback.
You can call it
Resilient Blooms.
I really like that.
It's like what was once lost
is the start
of a whole new path.
We can bring this batch
back to life.
And we can still celebrate
with the community.
I mean, this place needs
to be cleaned up, but...
what if we host
the Resilient Blooms Festival
at the bookstore?
I felt like I let Gram down,
not finishing
her Books and Blooms events.
This way, I can close
that chapter properly,
and honor her the way
she deserves.
I love that.
And the ciders,
it's a brilliant idea.
But I don't have enough apples
for a whole 'nother
distribution batch.
What about the frozen stash?
Dad...
I figured out a way to save
that batch for the pitch, but...
I need to use the frozen apples.
It's the only way
it's gonna work...
- No!
- Dad...
- Nope.
Come on.
Son, we need those
apples for emergencies.
That's what this is.
This is an emergency.
No, in case there's
a storm or something,
we have to be able
to fulfill our obligation
to our vendors.
So that we can ensure
that our vendors get delivery.
Okay, okay, let me use
the apples and then together,
we'll rebuild the stash
for the next crisis.
Son, we...
You know, your...
your mother used to say
that you would
grow this business
bigger than I ever could.
I just...
been afraid to let you
really try
because I didn't
want you to slip away.
But that was wrong, son.
And I'm sorry.
Thanks, Dad.
I appreciate that.
But look, Dad.
I'm not going anywhere.
I just wanna be able
to build my own thing,
blaze my own path, and I need
your trust to do that.
You got it, son.
Use the apples.
Hi.
Oh, good to see you again.
- This much?
- Uh-huh.
Okay, that's it,
keep it coming. Gradual.
They brought the blooms back.
No blooms outside?
We bring 'em inside.
What can I say?
This town is resilient.
And you made flower cupcakes.
What? I contain multitudes.
- Hey!
- Hey.
- You made it.
- Yeah.
- How'd it go?
- The buyers loved it.
I used the small batch cider
that we made. Look.
Resilient Blooms Cider.
Every label tells a story.
Delicate, fleeting
and resilient.
Just like you said.
What survives the storm shapes
the story moving forward.
And we're doing limited edition
blossom cider
in 15 state markets.
If that goes well,
then we'll expand from there.
That's amazing.
Wow, I can't believe
it's all over.
You're really leaving?
It's not gonna be
the same without you.
Yeah.
You poured your whole self into
this son, and you made it work.
I'm proud of you.
And you know I'll do
anything I can to help you.
Thanks, Dad.
You know we're gonna
do it right.
We'll do it slow
and steady together.
Good.
Did you notice I dedicated
the elder flower...
to Mom.
It's beautiful, son.
Come here.
That is so nice.
Look.
Welcome, everyone, to the first
Resilient Blooms Festival.
My grandma started this store
because she believed stories
could connect us.
To ourselves,
to each other,
and guide us through
every season of life.
I've felt a little
off-course lately.
But being here,
meeting all of you,
and hearing how my grandma's
curated list of books
always seem to share
the right message
at the right time.
It made me realize
I couldn't let the legacy
of this bookstore
just drift away.
This festival matters,
not because of flowers or books,
but because of the way this
community lifts each other up.
Even in small ways.
We're resilient.
Even fleeting blossoms
bear fruit.
And after this long winter,
I think we all deserve
a little spring.
Gram loved that reminder.
We can always start again.
As many times as we need.
We just need to have faith.
Are you okay?
Yeah.
I was just thinking about how
you're still gonna need
to water the plants every day
so they don't die.
Well, I'm sure the new owner,
whatever they decide
to do with this place,
will appreciate that.
- Yeah.
I think she will.
I didn't sign.
I finally found the home that
I don't wanna run away from.
That's one way
to make it official.
I want to be in a place
where people knew my grandma.
I wanna write my five pages
and more, and I...
I wanna be with you.
Please tell me I didn't
imagine it.
No.
You did not.
I think he approves.
Clover!
