A Very Merry Beauty Salon (2024) Movie Script
["Give Out My Christmas Love"
by Wesley Bright playing]
[alarm blaring]
Oh, you know that when it snows
Feels so holiday cheer
Makes me feel like giving out my
Love to all far and near
As far as I know
I believe in mistletoe
To bring us back together
This time of year
I'm gonna give out, give out
All my Christmas love
I'm gonna give out, give out
To the one I love
I'm gonna give out, give out, give out
[sighs] All right.
It's all right now that you're feeling
[sighs deeply]
[exhales sharply] Perfect.
[gurgling loudly]
Hm.
Ooh! Come to mama.
Oh yeah. Mm-hm.
Now we're back together
This time of year
[Sienna] Morning, Mom.
Ah, yes, I got the email.
No, no. I don't know how y'all did it,
but I am so glad
the ball won't be canceled.
Okay, all right.
See you soon. Love you, Mommy. Bye.
Give out, give out
All my Christmas love
I'm gonna give out, give out
To the one I love
I'm gonna give out, give out, give out
- All my Christmas love
- Give out my Christmas love
I'm gonna give out, give out
All my Christmas love
I'm gonna give out, give out
To the one I love
I'm gonna give out, give out, give out
All my Christmas love
Oh yeah
- Hey.
- Morning, boss lady.
Good morning, Ella.
Ooh, did that new dryer come in yet?
- Next week. Mm-hm.
- Okay.
[gasps]
Did I beat Miss Kimmy in?
Mm-hmm.
And it's Monday.
- [gasps]
- You know what that means.
[both] Fresh pastries!
- I can't wait.
- [laughs] Oh!
- Who loves you?
- Ooh!
- Miss Kimmy!
- Mm-hmm.
- Oh!
- [chuckles]
And all of my favs are in attendance.
[laughs] Oh, I thought we were gonna have
to take that thing down for a minute.
I thought so too,
until I got my email this morning.
Oh, ye of little faith.
When has the ball committee
never come through?
Okay, don't get cocky just cause
you've got insider info.
Oh, whatever. Get to work. We open soon.
["Something About Christmas"
by Craig McConnell playing]
Mm.
[laughs]
- See you in two weeks. Bye.
- Thank you. Bye.
[sighs] Let's see.
Hey, Mom, what are you doing here?
- Ooh, afternoon, Ms. Georgia.
- Hey, Georgia.
Hello, all. Good, you have a minute.
Uh, actually, my next appointment
[instrumental music plays]
She's late anyway.
Let's talk.
[sighs deeply] Okay, Mom. What's up?
I ran into Greg
at the store the other day.
[sighs] And?
He has a new woman.
And she ain't cute.
[sighs] Even if she was,
that would be perfectly fine
because he and I are divorced.
I left him, remember?
I know.
And have been thriving
without him for the past five years.
Has it been that long already?
Yes, Mom. Is that what you wanted
to talk about?
No. So
You know how you don't have
a date for the ball?
Because I don't need a date for the ball.
Just a partner for the spotlight dance.
And I have one of those.
And Kyle is a very good friend.
And a professional choreographer
and dancer.
Sienna, trust me.
This is the night you wanna spend with
Someone special.
[sighs] Mom.
Special is in rare supply these days.
Do you wanna know what's not?
- Broke, needy, raggedy, untrustworthy.
- Now, honey.
I may have mentioned to my neighbor's son
that you were in need of a date.
[gasps]
Mom! You did not.
[scoffs] I can't believe you sometimes.
Baby, listen. I did.
And, baby girl, he's single
and very interested.
We talked about boundaries before, right?
[sighs]
Fine.
But just think about it.
'Cause, girl, that boy grew up good.
Looks like a young Denzel
If you squint.
- [chuckles]
- [Sienna] That's great, Mom.
- Thank you.
- You're welcome, baby.
Well, if-if that's all,
I'm expecting a client soon.
- Sweetie, what's this?
- [Sienna] Oh!
You finally settled on a design
for your hair care line?
No, no, I'm
Considering a few options.
Well, I can't wait to see
what you go with.
I'm excited to see your line in stores.
Mom I have a client coming in.
- And I really need to get back to work.
- [phone ringing]
Oh, it's the committee.
It's been non-stop
with these people all morning.
I don't even want to know
what's wrong now.
Hello.
Did Noah get approved
for his military leave yet?
I mean, is he gonna make it for Christmas?
All I know is he put the request in.
I'm just praying he gets home in time
for the ball 'cause my dress is gorgeous.
I mean, it would be a sin
if he didn't see me in it.
Well, I still haven't bought a dress.
Maybe
He can bring it from Dubai.
- [Ella] Yeah. That'd be cute.
- [Kimmy] Mm. Okay.
[mellow music plays]
- [sighs]
- [Ella] Uh, Sienna
Hey, hi.
Oh!
Ah-hm!
Hi, welcome to Divine Beauty.
Can I help you?
Yeah, uh, my name is Lawrence,
I own the tasting room
that's opening up a couple doors down.
I was just going door to door just to
[chuckles] meet my work neighbors.
But uh, there you go.
[Sienna] Oh.
Hi, I'm Sienna.
- Nice to meet you.
- This is my salon.
- It's nice to meet you.
- Yeah, you too.
I'm not interrupting anything, am I?
No, no. It's-it's fine.
My next client is running late anyway.
Um, so your timing is actually perfect.
All right. This is
It's lovely. I like your style.
Has an elegance to it.
It's kinda like the owner.
Hm?
- [Sienna] I appreciate that.
- [Lawrence] Yeah.
Uh, we haven't officially opened yet
but when we do,
I hope you come through, check us out.
- Yeah, sure.
- [Lawrence] Okay.
Oh, feel free to have your wife
or girlfriend stop by.
[laughs] Uh, I'm actually married to my
work at the moment, but thank you.
Uh-huh? Okay.
Good looking young man like yourself.
I don't even believe that, sugar.
- Seriously?
- Oh!
I just got off the phone
with the committee.
Did they tell you where I was?
Dear, I promised I'd get back to you
on your suggestions.
- Uh, Mom, no. He, um
- Wait, no, no, no.
This is your mother?
Yes, this is my daughter.
- Mr. Carter's company...
- No, please, uh, call me Lawrence.
Mr. Carter's company
is co-sponsoring the ball this year.
- Oh, co-sponsoring.
- Yeah. Yes.
You know, thought I'd step in
and help keep the ball rolling.
You know, 'cause it's a ball.
[all chuckle]
- Right.
- You get it.
- Yeah.
- Okay. Good, good, good.
His company has created
some holiday wines
they'll be promoting at the ball.
- Oh! Okay.
- Yeah.
So if not for me,
what are you doing here?
Um
Oh!
You wanted to give your number
to my daughter.
- Oh, no.
- No?
- No?
- I mean, yes.
But not like that.
I'm sure she is wonderful.
I'm sure that you are wonderful.
I just didn't know
that she owned the salon.
Uh
He does now.
- There you go, neighbor.
- Thank you.
[chuckles] Very nice to meet you, Sienna.
And, Ms. Johnson, I'ma see you
at the next committee meeting.
- Sounds good.
- [Lawrence] All right.
- You take care now.
- Yeah.
- All right.
- Bye.
Hm!
- Mom, everything okay?
- That man!
Let me tell you.
He may have saved the ball
but now we have to work together.
And I don't think he's meaning
to be a headache, but he is.
Well, the new ballroom
is gorgeous, Georgia.
Well, the venue isn't the issue.
It's all these new ideas
this man is coming up with.
And the committee didn't think
he'd be this involved
with every little aspect
of what we're doing.
But didn't he just spend a whole bunch
of money on the new ballroom?
Not that that entitles him
to having any opinion.
Well, just tell us what you said,
Ms. Georgia.
I told him,
"Thank you for your suggestions,"
I assured him that we'd consider them,
and then I forgot everything he asked for.
- Oh!
- You ain't right, Georgia. [Laughs]
Mom, you cannot abuse
your power like that.
[scoffs] Who's abusing their power?
It's two weeks before the ball.
We can't make any major changes.
And plus, there was a smugness to him.
Like he thought he could boss us around
because of the money he gave
and I didn't like that.
Well, why don't we talk about
something you do like?
Like our girl Sienna
being honored this year.
- Aw, thank you.
- [Kimmy] Oh, okay.
Well, you all know I wouldn't
be able to do what I do
if it weren't for you guys,
so, if I could...
Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
First of all, we are proud of you.
And we're always glad to help out.
- That's right.
- [Kimmy] Come on.
Well, I am grateful.
You know, I was thinking about
my first Tinsel Ball the other day.
Oh yes. Honey, that's where
I first met you.
Mm-hm.
You had that French roll
with the bangs swooped to the front.
[all laughing]
Okay, Miss Kimmy.
- [Georgia] She was looking good.
- Swooped?
You know what I do what I do
when I can, okay? [Laughs]
I remember my first Tinsel ball.
I was obsessed
with Diahann Carroll on Dynasty,
but my mama refused to perm my hair.
So she took a hot comb to my hair
and threw a roller set in there.
And I don't know how she did it,
but I was looking
like Dominique Deveraux soon enough.
[Kimmy] Okay
[all laughing]
You know, I-I-I don't know
what it is, you know,
seeing the young girls come in here,
especially the first timers,
to get their hair done.
I-I-I just get so excited for them.
Well, it's a big deal for the guys too.
They take it very seriously.
Especially, learning the formal dance.
Speaking of, how's the spotlight dance
going for you?
Well, I haven't started practicing yet,
but I did watch the choreographer video.
- It's a waltz.
- Oh.
Your father and I danced a waltz
when I was an honoree.
I know, Mom. Don't worry.
I won't taint the legacy by falling over.
Oh well, it's not you I'm worried about.
Just one of the other honorees
has two left feet.
Oh, mm.
I mean, who can't do the electric slide?
- [all laughing]
- Oh, no!
Being a lonely one this year
And I've been missing you baby
Kyle, it has been too long.
- Too long.
- [both laugh]
Oh, I see you've met our co-sponsor.
Yeah, um, he stopped by the salon.
Nice guy, right?
I mean, we haven't met, but between us,
I heard he was kinda bossy
with the committee,
like the ball was all about
his wine or something.
Seriously?
Huh!
I mean my mom, she said the same thing
but I thought she was overreacting.
Well, you know, she is good for a story.
But not this time.
I mean, don't get me wrong,
he is hell a fine.
But he's definitely got an agenda.
- Hm.
- What?
Were you hoping to have a real date for
the ball instead of being stuck with me?
Your best friend?
[scoffs] No.
Yeah, right, sis. [Chuckles]
Hey, did you watch
the dance video I sent you?
- I did.
- It's nothing too complicated, right?
No crazy lifts,
just beautiful lines and turns.
Look, you are gonna look like Cinderella.
The Brandy version. Of course.
Well, I wasn't aware there was another.
[chuckles] I love that
we have the same taste.
[laughs]
[mellow music playing]
Okay, so, if we can't put
the wine display in the lobby,
how about right over there?
- What do you think? All right. Good.
- Now that works better.
But I know you want your goods
out front and center
but the focus should be on the honorees.
I understand, I'm not trying
to take anything from anybody.
But I would like to get a little shine
on our new wines. That's all.
Now, have you given any thought
to the menu changes that I suggested?
I did.
And my opinion remains the same.
I know everything on the menu
doesn't pair perfectly
with your wines.
But our local caterers,
they have their specialties
and we need to stick with what works.
Ah, question. Now is this
the opinion of the committee
Or is it just yours?
- [chuckles]
- [quirky music plays]
We all agreed.
Okay. Well, maybe, just maybe seeing
or tasting in this case is believing.
Now, what I'd love to do,
I love to bring in some samples from
this little French Bistro that I found.
- I met the chef...
- Whoa, whoa, whoa!
You met with a chef?
I did, I just wanted to get the idea...
The vendors we already have under contract
are depending on the checks
from the catering.
We can't cut them out.
I'm not saying we cut them out.
I just wanna supplement the menu,
I don't wanna
completely change it, Mrs. Johnson.
I think we're making a bigger deal.
- [sighs]
- You know what, it's fine.
- It's fine. We'll just...
- No don't.
Cross that out.
[Georgia laughs]
Wow, you must be proud.
She deserves it.
She works so hard
but still finds time to help others.
Something tells me she gets that from you.
[Georgia chuckles softly]
I'm just glad she's got it.
You know, that thing on the inside
that compels you to look beyond yourself?
Yeah. That's why events like this
are so important.
They remind us of the good being done.
In fact, my parents
co-founded this ball back in '64.
- Really?
- Mm-hm.
During the Civil Rights movement.
It started as just a community
potluck at Christmas.
It was a fun way
to support small businesses
and community leaders
when we really needed to be lifted up.
It's grown more lavish,
but it's always been rooted in charity
and honoring the people out in the street.
Yeah.
Oh!
It's truly inspiring,
the work that these people do.
And all I ask
Is that you remember that
while we keep working together.
[chuckles] It's a deal.
All right.
Hey, where's Sienna?
Dropping supplies at the shelter.
What's up?
I have a video chat scheduled
with Noah in like two minutes.
Can you just finish my client up for me?
I'll just be a few minutes.
- I got you. Don't worry.
- Thank you.
Oh, and let Sienna know
her special conditioner is almost empty.
- We need a new batch already?
- Oh, yes.
Oh, and whatever happened
to that manufacturing deal?
That's all she would talk about last year.
Well, from what I heard,
the timing wasn't right.
- The timing?
- Mm.
Please. Good hair care
is needed every day.
Ha! Period, sis.
[both chuckling]
Hey, how you doing?
Oh, girl.
You look a little tired, sergeant.
Are you getting enough sleep?
I'm fine.
Don't worry about me.
[scoffs] Well, that's an impossible ask.
You know that.
Okay.
Then let me give you
something else to focus on.
I finally got a response
to my request for leave.
And?
I really like your hair like this.
It's cute.
[chuckles] Okay, Noah.
Do not play with me right now.
Are you clear to come home?
[mellow music plays]
[Ella screeching]
I take it Noah will be home for Christmas.
My man gets home two days before the ball.
[laughs] That's good.
'Cause now you guys
can have a little bit of time
to try to learn
one of them group dances. [Laughs]
Yup.
- Now, Miss Kimmy
- Hm?
I know this is your first Christmas
without Mr. J
[sighs]
Have you given more thought
to going to the ball with anybody?
- Maybe a friend?
- You're not gonna let this go, are you?
Ella, I told you, I don't need a plus one.
Well, that doesn't change the fact
that there's someone
who wants to be added to your equation.
Okay, you gonna stop playing
with me, little girl.
What, we just gonna pretend
Mr. Terry doesn't have a crush on you?
Uh, he doesn't.
- Oh.
- Okay.
It's not like he's some scrub.
He is the owner of Terry's Soul.
That's one of the best restaurants
in town.
I mean, when's the last time
you paid for a meal there?
Okay, you know what?
You betta get her.
[all chuckling]
She's a trip.
[peppy music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[sighs]
[Sienna sighs]
How you doing?
- Hey, hi.
- [Lawrence laughs]
- I'm good.
- Yeah.
- You mind if I...
- Yeah, please do.
- You sure? I don't wanna
- Yes. [Chuckles]
- No.
- Okay, all right.
- This is crazy, right? [Laughs]
- Yeah.
Hey, Mr. Terry, how are you?
Oh, thank you. Thank you very much.
I heard the bells go off the
Oh, this looks amazing.
Mm-hm.
How long have you been vegan?
No, no, I'm not vegan.
I just think the food here slaps.
- So
- So
- Where'd you move from?
- California.
Yeah, my family's vineyard is in Napa.
And so, I've been here, God, like a month.
- Napa?
- [Lawrence] Mm-hm.
My grandfather started the company.
We're like, three generations in
at this point.
- Wow, that's impressive.
- Yeah.
My roots will always be in Napa
but setting up shop in Atlanta,
it was just, it's a no-brainer.
I mean, I like the food here
the-the art, the history,
it's like a whole
Black cultural experience.
I just, I wanted my company
in the mix of all that.
- It's called Uzuri, right?
- [Lawrence] Mm-hm.
- Am I pronouncing it correctly?
- Yes, you are.
It means beauty in Swahili.
It's actually what my grandfather
would call my grandmother.
He'd always say that their love
strengthened the vines.
- So he was a romantic.
- Mm-hm. He was.
Mm.
Um, so how is the ball prep coming?
Uh, good. I was able to catch up
on some of the honorees.
[both chuckling]
You know the grooming van
that you take to different shelters,
that's just, God, Sienna,
it's incredibly kind.
- Thanks.
- Yeah.
It's gotta be hard.
Oh, yeah. It is, but
Seeing what it does for their spirits
makes it so worth it.
And then your mother told me
that your grandparents
co-founded the event.
It actually makes sense
because she is such a stickler
for all the ball's traditions.
She's just trying to preserve
what your family created.
I get it.
You have a beautiful smile.
Hmm.
- Thank you.
- Yeah.
So, uh, we're doing a couple
of holiday wines this year.
Uh, one red and one white.
A good bottle makes a great gift.
Yeah. So, I would love for you
to come by the shop tonight.
And I just wanna get
your opinion on the wines.
- What-what, uh, tonight?
- [Lawrence] Yeah.
Um
I, uh [sighs] I wish I could
but I have a lot going on so, uh,
maybe some other time?
Sure. No worries, I'm not going anywhere.
Love lives on
For the holidays
Nice. Do a really nice wash
All right. And it's best to
wrap it every night.
Bye.
Oh, I'll take that.
Thank you.
It's for me.
[upbeat music plays in salon]
[gasps]
Oh my God! It's from Noah.
He got us Christmas ornaments.
- Us?
- Yes.
- Okay, wait. Excuse me.
- Oops! Excuse me. I'll be right back.
Hey, he already had our approval,
but I don't mind a young man
that keeps trying.
- Right?
- Oh, wow!
- Oh!
- Oh, that's beautiful. What in the...
- Aw!
- That's beautiful.
Let me get this box for you, babe.
- [Kimmy] What we got here?
- [all gasp]
[Kimmy] Oh, wow!
This is for you.
Bless his heart.
- [laughs]
- Aw!
[chuckles]
Oh!
Child. This is from Memorial Day.
Boy, we had a good time that day,
didn't we?
- We had a time.
- Oh my God!
This was y'all rescuing me
from that terrible date.
And I told you that guy's profile
was sketchy.
Yes, you did.
But Noah was such a saint
to come with you.
[gasps]
[mellow music plays]
This was two years ago.
The night I met his parents.
- Oh!
- Mm.
Let's put them on the tree.
- Okay.
- Okay.
[all chuckling]
Let me see. I don't know where to put it.
[Sienna] Mm-hm.
You came along
- That's beautiful.
- Mm-hm.
And in this coldest winter
[Sienna sighs]
[phone rings]
Hm.
Ugh, my gosh!
The thought of doing this spotlight dance
is starting to stress me out.
- Hm.
- Well, don't worry.
If anyone can cure
your two left feet, it's Kyle.
- What?
- Ha ha ha!
Hey! I know how to dance.
Oh.
- You gonna try that?
- What?
- I don't know how to dance?
- I'm not saying nothing.
Ooh, girl. Good day.
- See you tomorrow.
- Okay.
- Drive safe.
- You too.
[sighs]
[Sienna] Hm.
[quirky music playing]
Oh, oh!
Sienna.
- Sienna, I can see you.
- [chuckles]
[Lawrence] What are you doing?
- Hi.
- [Lawrence] Hi.
Um, uh
I, uh
You, um, had asked me,
um, to stop by the other day.
Uh, but I didn't think
I'd have enough time.
Just, stop. Please come in.
- I can't stay too long.
- That's okay.
I'll take whatever time I can get.
- Come on, get in here.
- Okay.
- Thank you.
- How long have you, uh, been out here?
[mellow music playing]
Um, yeah, I'm still waiting
on a few shipments to come in, but
It's really nice in here.
Thank you.
So, what do you recommend?
Every year for Christmastime
[Lawrence] All right, now
listen, if we are gonna do this
we're going to do this properly, okay?
Because there is an order to things
and we are not savages.
[laughs] So, we start, we see it
we swirl it, we smell it,
we sip it, and finally, we savor it.
So I want you to grab the wine.
- Okay. Okay.
- Yeah, just lift-lift it up.
- Like that? All right.
- Yeah, just like that.
What we're looking at,
we're looking at the wine's color.
-You're looking at its clarity
-Ah!
And from that we can actually tell,
the age of the wine,
we can even tell what kind of grapes
were used to make it.
Yeah, just give it like a gentle swirl.
Yeah. Kind of waking up the aromas.
- Like this?
- Yep. Yep.
And what do you smell?
- Yeah.
- Okay. [Sniffs]
Um
I'm getting peach.
Right.
Honey. [Sniffs]
And something else. Uh
- Is it plum?
- It's apricot, but very close.
Yeah, now we sip
and uh, no, before you sip,
uh, I just want you to pay close attention
to how those flavors combine.
Okay, uh
[slurps]
- Ooh!
- Hm. It's good?
- This is really good.
- [laughs]
From the smell I thought it might
be too sweet but it's not.
Yeah, there you go.
You have a very keen sense of smell.
There you go.
Water, to cleanse the palate.
Oh, scent is very important
in hair care, you know.
The way your hair smells,
it leaves an impression.
Yes, you know, it's kind of like
a fine wine.
Uh, now this is our red blend.
- Hm.
- I want you to try that.
- Um
- Let me see what you got.
And I'm watching you.
- So serious.
- Yeah, you know.
Wine is, uh, it's a very serious business.
- Mm-hm.
- Okay.
- Swirl.
- Mm-hm. Now smell.
- Yeah.
- Ooh.
I'm getting berries [sniffs]
And maybe some spices.
That's not bad.
[slurps]
Mm.
- Ptch! I love that.
- Yeah.
Good, it took years to perfect that.
[chuckling]
Well, not that I doubted it, but [sighs]
I can tell, you genuinely love your job.
Oh, I do. Look, I know most people,
you know, they
I'm aware, they look at me
and they don't think wine connoisseur
but my dad, he, he had me train,
he had me work as a sommelier for years,
and um, yeah, I think he just, you know,
he wanted to be sure that he could trust
passing the company reins to me.
- Wait, so you're in charge now?
- Mm-hm.
This is my first official year
in the boss's chair.
- Wow!
- Yeah.
- Congratulations.
- Thank you very much.
So, have the parents
started micromanaging yet?
How did you know?
[chuckling]
[inhales deeply]
No, I did, I listen, I
I broke away from tradition
when I moved here
but we needed more visibility
if we were gonna last.
You know, brand recognition
is so important.
And it was so difficult in such a,
such a overcrowded industry.
- Does that make any sense?
- Yeah, no.
I could totally relate to that.
I'm developing my own hair care line.
- Really?
- Yeah.
And it's just
so many other brands out there.
- The market is too saturated.
- [Lawrence] It is.
And it is really hard
to find ways to stand out.
That's why promoting the wine at the ball
I think is a great way to introduce
this place to the community.
And convince my parents that I'm not
trying to run our company into the ground.
Well, I'm no expert, but you've created
something really beautiful here.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
People are gonna love it.
Oh! My gosh, and this is, this is so good.
I thought I was gonna have
to lie to be nice, but
[Lawrence chuckling]
- To the ball.
- To the ball.
- Cheers.
- Cheers.
[mellow music playing]
- I just need you to sign.
- Here? Okay.
Chin up. Eye contact.
I wanted to ask you, now this number here,
uh, uh, is this a typo?
- Because this is...
- No, no, no, no.
She's been with us since day one.
- And this what she makes.
- That's what she makes.
Sienna.
- Hey, booboo.
- My queen.
Thank you so much for partnering up
with me on this.
- Of course.
- All right, that does it.
[Kyle] Do you think you got
the choreo down?
Yes. Yes. Good to go.
- Right, let's get started.
- Okay.
[instrumental music plays]
They've known each other
since high school.
- Mm.
- They're really good friends.
Yeah, he seems like a, a really nice guy.
He is.
We used to call him, Ella,
and Sienna The Three Musketeers.
They've always had each other's backs.
So you know how much I adore you, right?
Yes.
Well, I fear Ella more than I adore you.
What?
I just want you to know who to blame
for what's about to happen.
- Aah!
- Oh my God!
- Kyle, are you okay?
- Kyle?
Whoa, whoa, whoa!
- [Kyle groans]
- Whoa!
Are you all right?
It's just an old dance injury.
It flares up from time to time.
Lawrence, get him a chair, please.
- Okay.
- No, no, no, no.
Lawrence, um
I, actually like you to stand in for me.
You want me to stand in for you?
Yeah, well, she has no time to waste.
She has to learn this dance.
No, no, no. Kyle, you and I can just...
It's actually better this way.
I can see what you guys are doing.
It's easier for me to make adjustments.
- Okay.
- Look, I know you're very busy.
But Miss Georgia is a veteran
at putting on the ball.
You can trust her.
She'll take care of things. Right?
Well, he's not wrong about that.
Um, okay, sure, yeah. I'll do it.
Great. Okay. So, this is a Waltz.
So, let's get into our hold.
- Okay, I'm sorry.
- Okay.
This is Okay.
- Yes, I know.
- Okay. Okay.
- Beautiful. I'm gonna restart the music.
- Okay.
[Sienna scoffs]
I am so sorry.
Usually, he is
Really healthy.
Yeah, no, it's okay,
I don't, I don't mind.
- All right. Are we ready?
- Yeah.
[classical music plays]
- Ready?
- And
One, two, three. One, two, three.
Turn, two, three.
Turn, two, three.
Ah-huh.
[Sienna chuckles]
Wow!
This isn't your first Waltz.
I may have seen an online tutorial or two.
[chuckles] Now, don't laugh
I gotta be prepared.
Oh, I'm sorry,
I was just picturing you
at home alone practicing.
- Who says I was alone?
- Yes, yes, that's it, that's it.
Hold that eye contact.
And rise to standing.
- I was.
- [both chuckling]
Whoa! [Chuckles]
So, um
Do you have a date for the ball?
You know what, I just haven't had
any free time to find one yet.
Do, um
Honorees get a free bottle of wine?
You. Which one would you like?
And both is not a option.
I'll leave that up to you then.
All right.
[Kyle clears throat]
- Oh!
- Very nice, Lawrence.
Thank you, thank you.
If it wasn't for this knee,
I'd have to list you as an alternate.
- Hey, I'm here if you need me.
- Really?
Yeah.
Well, better safe than sorry.
- Might as well just have you...
- No, no. Kyle.
Sienna, this is
a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
It's for everyone to see you shine.
And it's meant to be shared
with someone important.
[Sienna splutter]
Well We've barely just met.
[scoffs] Didn't look like that to me.
I have a feeling you're gonna
recover just fine.
Do you not see the condition of this knee?
Can you think about someone else
other than yourself for two seconds?
Yes. This is the whole reason
I'm being spotlighted, Kyle.
Okay, you stop making sense.
I'm getting an ice pack.
- Lawrence?
- Hm?
- You're taking my place.
- Yes, sir.
[quirky music plays]
- Oh.
- Oh.
I'm gonna murder Ella.
- What was that? Oh.
- Nothing.
Um [inhales deeply]
Wha [huffs]
[sighs]
You really do not have to do this.
So, wait, you don't, you don't want me to?
- No.
- Oh. Well, good.
[scoffs]
Sienna?
Hey. What's up?
Is there something going on
between you and our co-sponsor?
What? No. Mom [inhales sharply]
Kyle. He is just being messy.
Maybe.
But there definitely seems
more to it than that.
- I'm not trying to pry...
- Yes, you are.
Mom, Lawrence and I, we're
[sighs deeply]
we're dance partners.
- Ah-huh?
- Mm-hm.
Careful. He might just two-step
right into your heart.
[gasps]
- Mom.
- [chuckles]
- [scoffs]
- Oh girl, please. [Laughs]
Come on, walk your mother to the car.
- Mother is always right.
- I cannot believe you.
- [somber music playing]
- [sobs]
[sniffles]
Girl
I cannot believe you told Kyle
Hey. What's wrong?
Noah
Something happened.
Some emergency.
His unit's out there
tending to a mission and
There's nothing he can do.
He's okay, but he's not coming home.
I am so sorry.
It's okay.
I already knew this could happen.
It's just the reality of it.
You know he would be here if he could.
I do.
It's just
I don't know if I can keep
doing this long term.
I mean, there's another year left
in his current tour, and
I don't know where
they will assign him next.
Ella
You two love each other so much.
And if there was anyone
that could weather the distance,
it's you two.
[music continues]
I used to believe that.
But sometimes
Oh!
Sometimes I miss him so much it hurts.
Listen.
You will get through this.
I'm here anytime you need to talk.
- Okay?
- Mm-hm.
I got you.
[door opens]
- Morning, ladies.
- It's okay.
Okay, what's wrong, Ell?
Noah's leave's been canceled.
- No!
- Yeah.
It's okay.
- I'm okay.
- Well, then why are you crying?
- Because I'm not okay!
- Oh, baby!
[Ella sobbing]
It's gonna be okay. Mm-hm.
Noah's gonna be all right, honey.
And you know, you got this to lean on.
[Kimmy chuckles]
Well, I can tell you all
something that'll
Make you feel better.
- What?
- Y'all were right.
Mr. Terry asked me to the ball.
- [gasps]
- No, calm down.
No, not doing that. I said no.
Hasn't even been a full year
Mr. J done passed.
I still can't believe
he had the nerve to ask me.
- [Ella] I can.
- [scoffs]
He's been eyeing you for years.
Mm-hm. I get a headache, honey,
thinking about dating.
Oof! I don't know how y'all do it.
All these apps
and I seen that show Catfish.
[all laughing]
Oh, it is a jungle out there.
Mm-hm.
You know what would really make
me really happy?
What?
One of your famous Christmas pies.
Normally, you would've had two
brought to the salon by now.
Is your oven broken?
No. Just, um
[sighs] I'll take a break from baking.
[mellow music playing]
A break from baking?
At Christmas?
- What's going on?
- Nothing. Nothing.
Miss Kimmy.
I'm just not in the mood right now. Okay?
You're still coming to Christmas dinner
with my family though, right?
Yes, and I've already told your mom
not to expect a pie this year.
- And she took it pretty hard.
- I understand her pain.
[Kimmy chuckles]
Look, I know y'all like to give me
all the credit.
But that's because he let me have it.
We both came up with that recipe.
It was our Christmas tradition.
[chuckles]
We'd put on those holiday aprons.
And he always insisted
on putting on one of those Santa hats.
[laughs] That was his uniform. Okay.
And you know and, we'd always
have the music playing
'cause you can't bake
without the proper playlist.
Mm-hm. I know The Temptations
made the cut.
- Mm.
- Little Stevie Wonder.
Always. [Chuckles]
But his favorite was Nat King Cole.
- Mm.
- Yeah.
[chuckles] That was our Christmas bakes.
Pies, cookies, cakes.
I'd have to pull a teeth
to get that man to make dinner
but a gingerbread house?
[all laughing]
[sighs] Oh, yeah, I guess
somehow that was his lane.
Look, I know we can't replace him,
but we would love to help you
keep tradition alive.
[Ella] Yeah.
And when Noah does get home
I need him to try that pie, Miss Kimmy.
- [laughs]
- Okay, that pie could get me a ring.
- Yeah.
- [all laughing]
[Kimmy sighs] Oh, mm.
You know you can talk to us
about anything, right?
And I know, I make jokes
to keep things light,
but I see how sad you are sometimes.
Yeah, me too.
We are here for you
Just as much as you are for us.
I know that.
And I appreciate it.
Well, maybe I should share the recipe.
I think he would want me
to pass it down the family.
- Mm-hm.
- My family.
- Aw. My babies. My babies.
- Aw, you know, we love you.
I love you. Thank you, babies.
Thank you. Thank you.
All right, well, let's get to work soon.
[Sienna and Ella laughing]
[quirky music playing]
Oh! [Grunting]
Mhm.
[sighs deeply]
- Mm.
- [computer chimes]
Mm. [Chuckling]
- [computer chimes]
- [Sienna gasps]
[computer chimes]
[music continues]
[sighs]
[phone vibrates]
- Hello.
- [Lawrence] Hi.
- It's Lawrence.
- [objects clatter]
[groaning]
Hi.
- [Sienna] How are you?
- I'm good.
Uh, listen, I hope you don't mind
but I got your cell from the,
you know, honoree info sheet.
Um, how are you doing?
I'm I'm good.
And thanks for the save the other day.
I I really appreciate you
stepping in the way you did.
That's no problem.
I was glad I could help.
Um [clears throat]
So, listen I was uh,
I was calling because, um
I thought we should go out
to dinner tonight.
- Dinner?
- [Lawrence] Dinner.
[Lawrence] Yeah, I've been dining solo
ever since I got here.
And I figured,
you wouldn't be the worst company.
So, yeah, dinner.
Wow! [Chuckles]
What an invitation.
How could I possibly turn that down?
All right, I figured
since we're dancing partners
it, you know, might help if we
get to know each other a little better.
You know, improve our
our chemistry on the dance floor.
Okay, yeah, um
[Lawrence] Okay, it's a date.
Sure, dinner sounds great.
I, uh, I-I gotta go.
Uh, text me the details?
[Lawrence] Okay. All right, bye.
Your client just got here.
Great. I'll be out in a minute.
You look a little flushed.
- Are you all right?
- Um
Yeah, I'm fine.
Okay, boss lady, what are you up to?
I just got off the phone with Lawrence.
- Oh!
- I know.
He invited me out to dinner.
Okay, first date. Let's go!
Calm down.
I'm not trying to rush into anything, but
I'm not gonna lie, I'm excited.
You know, I love this for you.
He seems to really have
his stuff together.
[sighs deeply] My gosh!
The butterflies are starting to rise,
which is crazy because I haven't
felt this way in forever.
Crazy good.
Sienna, enjoy this moment.
Aw!
I'm gonna try.
[chuckles]
Ouch!
Don't think I forgot about
that foolery you pulled with Kyle.
Okay, I'm sorry. It's just
- After your little late night rendezvous...
- [crackles]
Ouch! [Groans]
I mean, wine tasting session,
that he piqued your interest.
And I was right!
[sighs]
I gotta stop telling you things.
No, you don't.
You're worse than my mother sometimes.
And you love it!
[gentle music plays]
This is... Oh, this is... Oh, hey.
Thank you very much.
- All right.
- Thank you. Ah.
- Love this place.
- I know.
Kyle may have mentioned it to me.
- Of course he did.
- [Lawrence chuckles]
What else has he told you?
Why, are you scared?
[phone ringing]
- Oh.
- No.
[sighs]
- Is everything okay?
- Yes, everything is fine.
It's just, it's exhausting having
every decision that you make
second-guessed.
It's like, you start doubting, you know,
"Am I making the right choices," you know?
- Is that your dad?
- Yes, it is my dad.
It's like he wants me to do
everything exactly the way he did it.
But I'm saying, we're not gonna last
if we don't evolve.
- Mm-hm.
- You know, risks are necessary.
But also scary.
- [Lawrence sighs]
- Maybe, he is just a little worried.
What, even so, you know,
it would be nice to feel supported.
That's all I'm saying.
Well, I understand
what it's like to be a boss.
From what you told me before,
you didn't just move out here on a whim.
You know what you're doing,
and soon enough you'll prove that to him.
- Just trust your instincts.
- Hm.
You know what my instincts
are telling me right now?
My instincts are saying that there
is no way a woman as beautiful as you are
should have been bringing
a friend to the ball.
How does that happen?
[exhales sharply]
Well, I'm divorced.
That was five years ago,
so, I'm well over it.
But I don't know, I've just been unlucky
with the men I've been dating recently.
[laughs] You sound like me.
I mean, not the divorce part
but just really bad luck with women
and just, it's tiring trying to find...
The one?
Exactly. Yeah.
And then it's hard to just keep
putting yourself out there.
[Sienna sighs] Tell me about it.
I don't know if it actually was,
but I do remember dating being
much easier when I was younger.
Yeah. I don't know, maybe we just,
we're getting old
and we're just too lazy.
- Maybe? I don't know.
- [laughing]
Just, I don't know. [Chuckles]
[instrumental music playing]
So, what happened in your marriage?
And if it's too personal, you know, I
No, no, it's fine. Um
I just wasn't getting the same level
of support I was giving.
He didn't want me
to start my own business.
He discouraged me
whenever I brought it up.
Hm.
You know, I think some men
are just intimidated by successful women.
But good for you,
for not giving up your dreams.
Ptch! Aw!
- Thank you.
- [Lawrence] You're welcome.
So, where you at with the hair care line?
Ah, nowhere.
[groans] I keep going back and forth.
I mean, I've crunched the numbers,
I've done the research
but honestly, I don't know if I'm ready
to take on the stress of it all.
But you love what you do, right?
- [Lawrence] Right?
- Yeah.
So, let's say, for me, right,
the company wasn't
just something that I inherited.
Like, wine is my passion
so, why wouldn't this new hair care line
be, you know, like an extension
of what you love?
It would.
At first I just wanted to make quality,
affordable hair care products,
especially after I started
the grooming van service.
So many of the shelters we visit
rely on donations of toiletries.
That's where I come in.
[laughs]
- [Sienna] What?
- Nothing.
It's just, it's something
that your mother said.
What do you mean?
Uh, she said, how did she put it?
Uh, she said that you have a selfless side
that creeps into everything that you do.
Well, that's a mother's love for you.
Yeah. It's also the truth.
I mean, listen, I've I've never started
a business from scratch
but you and I both know
how hard it is to do, right?
What you wanna do
with this hair care line,
Sienna, it would help so many people.
I just don't wanna see you
abandon your dream.
- Thank you.
- [Lawrence] You're welcome.
I think this dance partner thing
might work out better than I thought.
Wait a second, are you saying
that I'm exceeding expectations?
I'll do my best not to step on your toes.
That's okay, I can handle it.
I'm a lot to handle.
Then, I'd get a gym membership quick.
So, you don't mind putting in
the extra work?
Ooh, not for the right person.
Okay.
I'll toast to that.
Mm. It's not as good as yours.
Definitely not.
[laughing]
Wishing for hearts filled with joy
Kids waking up
With a living room full of toys
I hope and pray
You got a smile on your face
Everywhere you go
You spread your love around
Christmastime is here
Magic in the air
Time to get together
To sound magic and cheer
Christmastime is here
Feel the magic in the air
Let your troubles be outta sight
You can count on me
Oh hi
- It was so beautiful.
- Isn't this nice? I told you.
Oh, come on, come on, come on, now.
[both laughing]
Be careful.
- [Sienna sighs]
- [Lawrence] Oh wow!
[Lawrence] Look at this.
So, have you fallen in love yet?
- Oh, with Atlanta.
- Oh.
Yes. I am falling hard for Atlanta.
Good, because I think
it's a great fit for you.
I bet you do.
[both laugh]
Come on.
[Lawrence] You feeling good
about the spotlight dance?
[Sienna] You know,
I'm a little nervous about that.
[Lawrence chuckles] I got you.
Thank you.
Oh.
Wow.
- This is beautiful.
- Right?
Um
By the way
You know, Kyle was faking his injury.
Yes.
Do you know I saw Kyle jogging to his car
like two seconds
after he limped away from us.
[chuckles]
Ah! He couldn't help trying to play cupid.
Mm, kinda glad that he did though.
Otherwise who knows how long
it would've taken
to get you into my arms.
We do make really good dance partners.
Hm, but the question is
Is that all?
I'm here
I'm here
[vocalizing]
Oh oh yeah
I'm here
I'm here
[Lawrence laughing]
[Ella squeals] I knew it!
Lawrence done snatching my girl's
whole heart right up outta her chest.
- Stop it.
- Why?
You literally have been glowing
for the last few days.
The boy got you floating around
the salon like Tinker Bell.
Okay, okay. Fine.
I will admit it.
Things have been going great between us.
I mean [sighs deeply]
amazing.
- I feel a "but" coming on.
- Mm-hm.
But
I think that's what has me
a little nervous.
I mean, I haven't felt this way
about a guy since Greg,
and we all know how that turned out.
Okay, Sienna, you can't measure
every man by your ex's toxic traits.
I know, it's just the way
he switched up on me
that has me questioning
my judgment right now.
Okay, you are not the same woman.
Your priorities have completely changed.
And you know exactly who you are
and exactly what you want.
Ah!
[sighs] I know.
But a part of me is waiting
for the other shoe to drop.
Either Lawrence has no red flags
Or they're extremely well-hidden.
Okay, it's it's natural
for you to be fearful
after you've been burned.
But you gotta be brave with love. Be bold.
I'm trying.
I am.
I'm doing my best not to be too much
in my head about things
and just enjoy this feeling.
As you should.
And the timing couldn't be more perfect.
You'll get to share
the one night out of the year
that we get to dress up like royalty
and be treated like it too.
That part, mm-hm.
Is it dumb to wanna coordinate
our outfits?
- Uh-uh!
- [all laughing]
- What?
- No way.
Okay, no, baby, no. It's not, no.
It's old, but it ain't dumb.
[laughs] Okay, but
What do you feel about him?
Yeah, Sienna. Is he about
to be your new man or what?
I think I want him to be.
I really like him, y'all.
[Ella squealing]
Okay, okay, so, what we have to do next
is we have to make him
one of my Christmas pies.
[gasps]
Oh, honey, one bite
and his stomach won't let you go.
[all laughing]
- Okay, let's get started. Come on, girls.
- Oh, wait, wait, wait, hold up. Hold up.
- What?
- Ah!
- That's right. The aprons.
- There you go.
[Kimmy laughs]
We had to get in uniform.
- Mrs. Claus.
- Thank you.
[Kimmy laughs]
- Ooh, I've got the tunes.
- All right. Okay, all right.
[Kimmy laughs]
Time to get that man, Sienna.
[sighs]
[mellow music plays]
Let's grab a bowl, grab some flour.
Yes, let's make it happen. Okay.
You do know how to crack an egg now,
don't you?
- Can she crack a egg? I don't know.
- What?
Okay. All right. Yes.
- I'm not sayin' nothin'.
- Okay. Okay, yes.
I like what you're doing over there.
[music continues]
[Lawrence] Can I say something,
what I think you need to Hey, question.
Why do you think I chose the ball?
Do you know how many influential people
will be there?
The company is my priority.
Look, I have zero issues, I will pack up,
I will leave tomorrow if need be.
Yeah, are you ser
Sienna, are you serious?
Listen, and she is not a distr...
I already told you,
Sienna is not going to be a prob...
[somber music plays]
I I gotta go.
Look, I gotta go. I'll call you back.
Um
Hey, listen, Sienna.
- So, I won't be a problem?
- No, no, no, no, no, no.
It's not how it sounded, okay?
I I... Let me just explain.
Oh, explain how easy it is
for you to just up and leave?
Please! Please explain.
Because stupid me was believing
that this thing between us
actually might mean something to you.
Especially after last night.
I know you're upset, okay, but please know
last night wasn't nothing to me.
- You know that.
- I'm still waiting for an explanation.
Okay, I was on the phone with my dad.
We got into it over the financials.
He doesn't truly trust the new direction
that I'm tryin' to move in.
And basically, he threatened to replace me
with my brother
if the launch doesn't go well.
Guess, the numbers
for the holiday wine are off...
Does it look like I care
about your sales figures?
Using the ball to launch the wine,
that was my idea.
Okay, do you do you have any idea
how much pressure I'm under right now?
Right.
So I may not be a distraction
to your business plans as you said,
but I am a good way to pass time
while you see
if this expansion experiment works.
That was just my way of doubling down.
And what if it doesn't work, huh?
What then?
But it will.
It will. You just have to trust me.
Okay, listen, if this relationship...
What relationship?
Don't do that. Please, don't do that.
Don't pretend like you don't know
how I feel.
Don't pretend like I don't have
a reason to not trust you.
But you don't. You know you don't.
I don't know, like what this is
but I am being completely honest
with you right now.
It's almost like you need me
to be a bad guy or something.
What? That's not true.
I came here to tell you that
You came to tell me what?
What were you gonna say?
It doesn't matter anymore.
- Sienna!
- [scoffs\]
What were you gonna say?
[door opens]
[door closes]
[sighs]
[sighs]
"Be bold," you said,
"It'll be fine," you said.
Look, he sounds stuck
between a rock and hard place.
He's obviously being pressured.
Well, I know that.
But why start a relationship
if it's not something
you can truly commit to?
But did he say that?
'Cause I don't think
that's what he was saying.
Uh, I'm sorry.
Are you taking his side now?
Okay, don't be ridiculous.
I'm just usually a really great
judge of character.
You know that. [Chuckles]
But hon, you know what?
At the end of the day,
we still got each other, right?
So okay, no Noah, no Lawrence
No problem.
I would love to be your date for the ball.
Aw. I love you so much.
[Ella] Okay, sis, I'm gonna need
you to slow down on that pie.
Yeah, you still need to fit
into your dress.
[groans]
[sighs deeply]
I'm not mad, just disappointed.
I thought you saw this ball
as more than just a stepping stone.
[sighs]
Mrs. Johnson, I do.
Look, I I understand
what this ball means to your family,
I understand what it means to the city.
I respected every decision
that the committee made.
Okay, because this is not just
another opportunity
for me anymore.
I don't know what Sienna told you,
but, uh, she...
Kyle requested that he be listed
as Sienna's dance partner.
And I can see you're just
as upset as she is.
I just wish I could fix it.
You know?
I just feel misunderstood, Mrs. Johnson.
Ptch! Lawrence
I know you're a good man.
I've seen that.
But I think you just have to decide
If it's worth trying to clear things up.
[somber music plays]
["Here's to Christmas"
by Andy Powell playing]
- [alarm blaring]
- I wanna believe
I wanna believe
I wanna believe
Believe in the magic of Christmas
When I was a little girl
I'd countdown the days
Till Christmas is my favorite holiday
But as I grew up
Somehow I lost my way
Please I wanna hear
The sleigh bells on Santa's sleigh
[phone buzzing]
I wanna believe
I wanna believe
I wanna believe
In the magic of Christmas
I wanna believe
In the magic of Christmas
- Magic magic
- Whoo!
Ooh-ooh!
- Oh! Girl!
- Oh! Girl!
We did that, boss man.
[all sigh deeply]
- Oh!
- Lord.
Billie Holiday always looks
so elegant in this style.
I've always wanted to try it.
Mm.
Ooh! Yes, yes.
- It suits you.
- [Kimmy] Mm-hm.
[sighs]
[sighs deeply]
[sighs deeply]
I hate seeing her like that.
Tonight's supposed to be her big night.
[Kimmy] You know what, it'll be fine.
We're all gonna be there with her.
And Kyle's doing
the spotlight dance with her.
Yeah, but I feel kinda guilty
for pushing her toward Lawrence.
- Well, don't.
- Hm?
Georgia, do you know something
we don't know?
I know my daughter is stubborn
and she should have picked up
the phone when he called.
Oh!
It's not like he doesn't know
where she works.
Uh, not with you two standing guard.
He isn't stupid.
Miss Georgia, I'ma need you
to spill the beans.
Or you're about to be walking
out here looking like buckwheat.
Ooh!
Okay, you know, I'm not serious.
But come on.
What's going on?
One second.
Mom, what are you doing?
Me?
What are you doing?
I'm only going to say this once
and then you're gonna do
what you're going to do.
Mom...
There are no perfect men women,
or conditions when it comes to love.
They're either someone
worth fighting for or they're not.
And, baby, I think you're just too scared
to get back in the ring.
Which is a shame
Because I've waited a very long time
to see you as happy as Lawrence makes you.
Okay?
[sniffles]
Now, Ella is just about
finished with my hair,
but I didn't want to forget
to give you this.
[gasps]
Mom, is that...
It's the necklace your grandmother gave me
the year I was an honoree.
I thought it'd be nice
for you to have something
from the both of us tonight.
But you don't have to wear it
if you don't want to.
[Sienna sniffles]
Thank you.
Don't let anything spoil
how special tonight is.
It's Christmastime.
We're all together
and I promise you, Sienna,
you will remember this night
for the rest of your life.
[laughing]
[Kimmy] Aww, that is so sweet.
Little mama-daughter b...
- [Georgia] Uh, Kimmy?
- Mm?
I know that is not your Christmas pie.
It is.
The same Christmas pie you said you
wouldn't be bringing to Christmas dinner?
The same Christmas pie
I had to mentally prepare my heart
and my body not to receive?
That Christmas pie?
Yes, one and the same.
But thankfully
Uh, had a little help
pushing me through that baker's block.
And uh, I can assure you
that you will have a fresh pie
on Christmas day.
Oh! Thank God for that.
[all laughing]
Listen, dear. I know this season
has been hard for you.
But this pie on our table
brings him there with us.
Him and all the good memories.
[chuckles]
[whispers]
He loved your sweet potato pie too.
[all chuckling]
You know, I've been
getting into pumpkin pie lately.
What?
I didn't say it was better.
[all chuckling]
All right.
Chop-chop, belles,
we've got a ball to get to.
- Yes.
- [all laughing]
- [Sienna] Let's get ready, ladies.
- All right.
[singers vocalizing "Deck The Halls"]
[bright music plays]
Everybody needs to hear this
Front and center, from my lips
The time of the year but don't trip
Say no, no, no, no, no
Gonna ring-a-ting-ting my bell
Gonna fall in love, kiss and tell
I don't need a man this Christmas
Gonna be with my girls
My girls, my girls
[playing "Deck The Halls"]
And what about you?
Uh-huh. I know what you doing.
[chuckles]
Hello, darling. How are you?
You look beautiful.
Thank you. Thank you for coming.
Hey, sweetie.
[music continues]
[sighs]
Oh, smoked salmon.
I will. Thank you very much.
[chuckles]
Mr. Terry.
[instrumental music plays]
[sighs]
- [Kyle] Hey, Sienna.
- Oh.
- Hey.
- You look blindingly beautiful tonight.
Aw, thank you.
And you look amazing as well.
Yes. Yes, I do. [Chuckles]
Well, the committee
really stepped it up this year.
- Mm.
- They had some help, of course.
I'm just really glad
everything came together.
Have you seen our co-sponsor yet tonight?
Not yet.
Because you're avoiding him or
No, no, I just
I just haven't ran into him yet.
But I'm sure, when I see him
it'll be fine.
I mean, we're both adults. Right?
This event is bigger than the both of us.
Right.
So, let's celebrate.
Yes, let's. [Chuckles]
Hm! This is good.
Have you had this before?
- I have.
- Hm.
[Sienna sighs]
- I'm gonna go.
- Yeah.
Yeah. Okay.
[Kyle sighs deeply]
Hey, get up.
You have paid too much for this dress
for everyone not to see it.
Listen, I know Noah is not here.
But he can't miss out
on how beautiful you are.
Come on, let's go.
We're gonna take a picture. Stand
right in front of the Christmas trees.
- Okay.
- Ah.
[Ella] Ah, right here?
[Sienna] To the right.
Uh, like this?
Um, maybe to the left a little bit.
- Here?
- Perfect.
Oh wait, does my hair look good?
He's gonna love it.
Okay. Cheese.
- [shutter clicks]
- [Sienna] Here, take a look.
- Okay. Let me see.
- [squeals]
Hey, did I get photo bombed? [Gasps]
- Noah?
- Sorry, I'm late.
[Ella shrieks]
[laughing]
- Wait. Did you know that he was coming?
- Uh, I had no idea until now.
I swear.
How are you even here right now?
The mission was handled quicker
than we thought it would take.
I rushed home as soon as I could.
I wanted to surprise you.
[chuckles] I love you.
I love you too.
- Aw!
- [all applauding]
["Joy to the World" playing on violin]
[Lawrence clears throat]
[sighs] Good evening.
Oh, and Merry Christmas. [Chuckles]
Um Wow. It's great to see everybody here.
Y'all look beautiful.
Um, co-sponsoring this ball
has just been a
It's been an absolute joy
and I know that um,
well, our partnership,
it it happened suddenly but um
Boy, I've really, really
treasured this time.
You know, here in Atlanta, um
Uh, I think I found the type of beauty
that my grandfather found
when he started this company.
It's the type of beauty that, uh,
that strengthens the vines
of our vineyards.
So, it's my hope, it's my wish
that Uzuri Wines will continue
to be a part
of such an amazing tradition
for years and years to come.
A tradition that the ball committee
worked really hard to make happen.
- So let's give it up for them.
- [all applauding]
And we love to bring up
our lovely host for this evening,
Mrs. Georgia Johnson.
Please, let me help you.
- [all cheering]
- Whoo!
Whoo-hoo!
- There you are.
- Thank you. Thank you so much.
Well, this town
This town has always
has shown up and shown out.
[all chuckling]
Thank you so much
for the generous donations
that have already been made
to support our local charities.
And a huge thank you to our co-sponsor.
We could not have done this
without your support this year.
- Thank you.
- Give him a hand, guys.
[all applauding]
Now, the people that are being honored
give of themselves all year round.
Their acts of kindness,
they make our community stronger.
And they remind us of the positive change
that every single person in this room
can make possible.
Well, the party
is just getting started, y'all.
[all chuckling]
So, let's have a good time
and Merry Christmas!
[all cheer and applaud]
Now did you pick up what
Lawrence was putting down?
I did.
Good, because he's standing
right over there.
Oh and quick word of advice
Please bring down one of those walls
that are guarding your heart.
I don't think he means to break it.
- Hi.
- Hi.
Wow, you look incredible.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
[Lawrence chuckles]
- [Ella] It's so crazy.
- [both laugh]
- Ah
- Okay, stop.
- No
- Ooh, I want you to try this.
- All right. Mm-hm.
- Okay. Ready? All right.
- Mm! This is good.
- Mm-hm. I told you.
It is not as good
as Kimmy's Christmas pie though.
You've been gassing
this pie up for months.
That's because it's true.
- I missed you.
- I missed you too.
You know, I called.
I know. I just
[sighs]
I wasn't in the right headspace to listen.
Hm.
What about now?
- Now?
- Now.
Well, I've had some time to think
and our last conversation
didn't have to be what it was.
[Lawrence sighs deeply]
I feel like the smartest thing
for both of us,
is for you to [inhales deeply]
have some time
to figure out
what's best for your company.
Wow!
And I don't want to add
to the stress of any of that.
[Georgia] And now for the first
of our spotlight dances.
Please welcome to the floor
Sienna Johnson and Kyle Harris.
[all applauding]
I um asked Kyle after...
I know.
You're gonna do great.
[sighs deeply]
[applauding continues]
["Christmas Kinda Love"
by Sasha Allen playing]
[music swells]
Remember how it used to feel
When Christmastime was almost here
Can barely sleep 'cause
you've got butterflies
You got me like jingle bells
Jingle bells
I'm so glad you came
Well don't you go
Say you'll stay
When the seasons change
Christmastime love
You make me wanna believe
Christmastime love
There's really no better gift for me
Christmastime love
Oh aren't you least into me
Christmastime love
Oh you got me feeling
Christmas kind love
I really really wanna believe
Christmastime love
Oh Christmas kinda love
So if you wanna take my hand
Dance the night away
We can let our hearts create the sound
Whoa whoa you know
You saved and stole my heart and soul
You're my Christmas kinda love
[cheering and applause]
You done did that!
You look like a princess.
Well done, young man. I'm rooting for you.
Thank you.
[indistinct chatter]
[instrumental music plays]
[sighs]
[woman] You look so beautiful
out there, Sienna.
- Thank you.
- Congrats.
No, I really appreciate that.
[chuckles]
- I just...
- So, I've...
- No, you-you, you go ahead.
- And...
- I don't wanna You wanna go...
- No, please.
Okay, I'll go.
Um
I wasn't expecting
to meet someone so quickly
after I moved here and then
there you were.
And I can't help that I wanna
spend more time with you.
I can't help that I wanna be
more than just friends. I
And look, I know that you have doubts
about how serious I am about you
but what you heard the other night,
that's no reflection...
No, no, no, I I know.
The thing is, you were right
about me needing something to be wrong.
I'm just so used
to the worst case scenario being true
when it comes to men.
[sighs deeply] I was just trying
to get ahead of the heartbreak.
Hm.
And that wasn't fair for you.
I'm sorry.
Okay, I'm gonna say it
and I know you think it's too soon
but, Sienna, I know how I feel.
- Listen, I...
- I really like you.
You do?
That's what I was coming
to tell you that night.
That's what you were gonna say?
And I think that's why
I was reacting as strongly as I did.
I understand. I would've done
the same thing. I
Yeah.
So you feeling me?
- I am.
- Wow.
- Well, that's good.
- [chuckles]
That is good.
Because I
Am feeling you too.
[chuckling] Okay, okay.
- Say I'm old. Mm-hm.
- Yeah, mm-hm.
You know, I am so happy
that Noah made it back.
Aw, me too. They're so sweet together.
They are, mm-hm!
[Sienna clears throat] Miss Kimmy.
Mm, what's up?
Mr. Terry has entered the chat.
[giggles] Hey.
[both giggling]
Won't you give it up already?
Girl, he is hoping
for a Christmas miracle.
Hm! Looks like Lawrence already got his.
- [Lawrence] Okay.
- [chuckles]
- Hey.
- Hey, Mr. Napa. How you doing?
- I'm doing well. Thank you for asking.
- Hey.
- Is everything okay?
- Oh, it's better than okay.
Pics from the ball are trending
all over social media.
The amount of mentions
the company is getting
it's just, it's insane.
Traffic on the web page is just blowing up.
And the preorders
for the new wines are pouring in.
- [gasps]
- I know.
- Wow! Lawrence!
- I know.
Congratulations. Aw.
Wait, wait, you know what's really wild?
My dad calls me to apologize.
Like I'm still kind of in shock
about that.
It's like he's finally starting to get
a little more confidence in me.
- As he should.
- Mm-hm.
- We tryna dance a little bit?
- Yes. Key-key.
Get in here. Let me get in here.
Hey, there. Just hop with it.
- [Sienna giggling]
- Hop with it. Hop with it.
[all applauding]
And now, for our final honoree.
[sighing] It is my absolute pleasure
to give this award to Sienna Johnson,
owner of Divine Beauty.
[all applauding]
- Congratulations.
- Thank you so much.
Uh!
- Aw, thank you, Mom.
- You're welcome.
- I love you so much.
- [whispers] Congratulations.
Thank you.
Gosh, this is beautiful.
Um
Thanks to everyone who nominated me.
You know, I get to go to work every day
grateful for the opportunity to help
some of the most vulnerable people
in our community feel cared for and safe.
People the world too often forgets
who are worthy of being heard and seen.
But I can't do this alone.
So, to my incredible team
Miss Kimmy
Ella
Thank you so much for your support.
Kyle, booboo, my booboo
[Sienna giggles]
What would I do without you?
And [sighs]
I'd also like to thank
our co-sponsor
Lawrence as well.
Next year, I will be launching
my hair care line.
- Wow!
- Yes! Oh!
- Oh I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Sorry.
- [applause]
Thank you.
And that's thanks to you, Lawrence.
For reminding me why I created it
in the first place.
I will be making sure
that every shelter we visit
will be fully stocked
with products for the people they house.
I mean, who says
Christmas can't be all year round.
So, thanks to everyone. Thank you.
[applause, cheering]
[upbeat festive music plays]
[singer] Ha ha!
You know I love Christmastime!
[giggles] You do too.
Each year around this time
These streets begin to shine
The lights and candle glow
Put on the greatest show
All dressed in red and green
Don't mind the busy scene
Bundled from head to toe
I've learned to love the cold
When winter comes
It brings the most fun for us all
I just can't wait
To see those crystal snowflakes
Start to fall
It's Christmastime
And the magic is in the air
Oh, it's Christmastime
You can feel it everywhere
Oh, it feels so right
Around family and our friends
- Ooh, at Christmastime
- Christmastime
Hope this feeling never ever ends
I hear the sleigh bells ring
The choir begins to sing
Those old familiar songs
We all just sing along
Tall trees
- So, what do you think?
- Oh! This looks great.
It looks great.
I can't wait for my free sample.
Have I told you
how beautiful you look tonight?
Yes.
But it bears repeating.
Hm. Well, you look stunning.
Come here.
[Kyle whoops]
[all cheering]
[all laughing]
- It's Christmastime
- Christmastime
And the magic is in the air
Oh, it's Christmastime
You can feel it everywhere
- Ready?
- Hey.
- All right.
- [all] Merry Christmas!
Oh, at Christmastime
Hope this feeling never ever leaves
Oh
Oh
- Christmastime
- Christmastime
- And the magic is in the air
- Ooh yeah
It's Christmastime
You can feel it everywhere

- It feels so right
Around family and our friends
Oh oh
At Christmastime
Hope this feeling never ever leaves
- It's Christmastime

by Wesley Bright playing]
[alarm blaring]
Oh, you know that when it snows
Feels so holiday cheer
Makes me feel like giving out my
Love to all far and near
As far as I know
I believe in mistletoe
To bring us back together
This time of year
I'm gonna give out, give out
All my Christmas love
I'm gonna give out, give out
To the one I love
I'm gonna give out, give out, give out
[sighs] All right.
It's all right now that you're feeling
[sighs deeply]
[exhales sharply] Perfect.
[gurgling loudly]
Hm.
Ooh! Come to mama.
Oh yeah. Mm-hm.
Now we're back together
This time of year
[Sienna] Morning, Mom.
Ah, yes, I got the email.
No, no. I don't know how y'all did it,
but I am so glad
the ball won't be canceled.
Okay, all right.
See you soon. Love you, Mommy. Bye.
Give out, give out
All my Christmas love
I'm gonna give out, give out
To the one I love
I'm gonna give out, give out, give out
- All my Christmas love
- Give out my Christmas love
I'm gonna give out, give out
All my Christmas love
I'm gonna give out, give out
To the one I love
I'm gonna give out, give out, give out
All my Christmas love
Oh yeah
- Hey.
- Morning, boss lady.
Good morning, Ella.
Ooh, did that new dryer come in yet?
- Next week. Mm-hm.
- Okay.
[gasps]
Did I beat Miss Kimmy in?
Mm-hmm.
And it's Monday.
- [gasps]
- You know what that means.
[both] Fresh pastries!
- I can't wait.
- [laughs] Oh!
- Who loves you?
- Ooh!
- Miss Kimmy!
- Mm-hmm.
- Oh!
- [chuckles]
And all of my favs are in attendance.
[laughs] Oh, I thought we were gonna have
to take that thing down for a minute.
I thought so too,
until I got my email this morning.
Oh, ye of little faith.
When has the ball committee
never come through?
Okay, don't get cocky just cause
you've got insider info.
Oh, whatever. Get to work. We open soon.
["Something About Christmas"
by Craig McConnell playing]
Mm.
[laughs]
- See you in two weeks. Bye.
- Thank you. Bye.
[sighs] Let's see.
Hey, Mom, what are you doing here?
- Ooh, afternoon, Ms. Georgia.
- Hey, Georgia.
Hello, all. Good, you have a minute.
Uh, actually, my next appointment
[instrumental music plays]
She's late anyway.
Let's talk.
[sighs deeply] Okay, Mom. What's up?
I ran into Greg
at the store the other day.
[sighs] And?
He has a new woman.
And she ain't cute.
[sighs] Even if she was,
that would be perfectly fine
because he and I are divorced.
I left him, remember?
I know.
And have been thriving
without him for the past five years.
Has it been that long already?
Yes, Mom. Is that what you wanted
to talk about?
No. So
You know how you don't have
a date for the ball?
Because I don't need a date for the ball.
Just a partner for the spotlight dance.
And I have one of those.
And Kyle is a very good friend.
And a professional choreographer
and dancer.
Sienna, trust me.
This is the night you wanna spend with
Someone special.
[sighs] Mom.
Special is in rare supply these days.
Do you wanna know what's not?
- Broke, needy, raggedy, untrustworthy.
- Now, honey.
I may have mentioned to my neighbor's son
that you were in need of a date.
[gasps]
Mom! You did not.
[scoffs] I can't believe you sometimes.
Baby, listen. I did.
And, baby girl, he's single
and very interested.
We talked about boundaries before, right?
[sighs]
Fine.
But just think about it.
'Cause, girl, that boy grew up good.
Looks like a young Denzel
If you squint.
- [chuckles]
- [Sienna] That's great, Mom.
- Thank you.
- You're welcome, baby.
Well, if-if that's all,
I'm expecting a client soon.
- Sweetie, what's this?
- [Sienna] Oh!
You finally settled on a design
for your hair care line?
No, no, I'm
Considering a few options.
Well, I can't wait to see
what you go with.
I'm excited to see your line in stores.
Mom I have a client coming in.
- And I really need to get back to work.
- [phone ringing]
Oh, it's the committee.
It's been non-stop
with these people all morning.
I don't even want to know
what's wrong now.
Hello.
Did Noah get approved
for his military leave yet?
I mean, is he gonna make it for Christmas?
All I know is he put the request in.
I'm just praying he gets home in time
for the ball 'cause my dress is gorgeous.
I mean, it would be a sin
if he didn't see me in it.
Well, I still haven't bought a dress.
Maybe
He can bring it from Dubai.
- [Ella] Yeah. That'd be cute.
- [Kimmy] Mm. Okay.
[mellow music plays]
- [sighs]
- [Ella] Uh, Sienna
Hey, hi.
Oh!
Ah-hm!
Hi, welcome to Divine Beauty.
Can I help you?
Yeah, uh, my name is Lawrence,
I own the tasting room
that's opening up a couple doors down.
I was just going door to door just to
[chuckles] meet my work neighbors.
But uh, there you go.
[Sienna] Oh.
Hi, I'm Sienna.
- Nice to meet you.
- This is my salon.
- It's nice to meet you.
- Yeah, you too.
I'm not interrupting anything, am I?
No, no. It's-it's fine.
My next client is running late anyway.
Um, so your timing is actually perfect.
All right. This is
It's lovely. I like your style.
Has an elegance to it.
It's kinda like the owner.
Hm?
- [Sienna] I appreciate that.
- [Lawrence] Yeah.
Uh, we haven't officially opened yet
but when we do,
I hope you come through, check us out.
- Yeah, sure.
- [Lawrence] Okay.
Oh, feel free to have your wife
or girlfriend stop by.
[laughs] Uh, I'm actually married to my
work at the moment, but thank you.
Uh-huh? Okay.
Good looking young man like yourself.
I don't even believe that, sugar.
- Seriously?
- Oh!
I just got off the phone
with the committee.
Did they tell you where I was?
Dear, I promised I'd get back to you
on your suggestions.
- Uh, Mom, no. He, um
- Wait, no, no, no.
This is your mother?
Yes, this is my daughter.
- Mr. Carter's company...
- No, please, uh, call me Lawrence.
Mr. Carter's company
is co-sponsoring the ball this year.
- Oh, co-sponsoring.
- Yeah. Yes.
You know, thought I'd step in
and help keep the ball rolling.
You know, 'cause it's a ball.
[all chuckle]
- Right.
- You get it.
- Yeah.
- Okay. Good, good, good.
His company has created
some holiday wines
they'll be promoting at the ball.
- Oh! Okay.
- Yeah.
So if not for me,
what are you doing here?
Um
Oh!
You wanted to give your number
to my daughter.
- Oh, no.
- No?
- No?
- I mean, yes.
But not like that.
I'm sure she is wonderful.
I'm sure that you are wonderful.
I just didn't know
that she owned the salon.
Uh
He does now.
- There you go, neighbor.
- Thank you.
[chuckles] Very nice to meet you, Sienna.
And, Ms. Johnson, I'ma see you
at the next committee meeting.
- Sounds good.
- [Lawrence] All right.
- You take care now.
- Yeah.
- All right.
- Bye.
Hm!
- Mom, everything okay?
- That man!
Let me tell you.
He may have saved the ball
but now we have to work together.
And I don't think he's meaning
to be a headache, but he is.
Well, the new ballroom
is gorgeous, Georgia.
Well, the venue isn't the issue.
It's all these new ideas
this man is coming up with.
And the committee didn't think
he'd be this involved
with every little aspect
of what we're doing.
But didn't he just spend a whole bunch
of money on the new ballroom?
Not that that entitles him
to having any opinion.
Well, just tell us what you said,
Ms. Georgia.
I told him,
"Thank you for your suggestions,"
I assured him that we'd consider them,
and then I forgot everything he asked for.
- Oh!
- You ain't right, Georgia. [Laughs]
Mom, you cannot abuse
your power like that.
[scoffs] Who's abusing their power?
It's two weeks before the ball.
We can't make any major changes.
And plus, there was a smugness to him.
Like he thought he could boss us around
because of the money he gave
and I didn't like that.
Well, why don't we talk about
something you do like?
Like our girl Sienna
being honored this year.
- Aw, thank you.
- [Kimmy] Oh, okay.
Well, you all know I wouldn't
be able to do what I do
if it weren't for you guys,
so, if I could...
Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
First of all, we are proud of you.
And we're always glad to help out.
- That's right.
- [Kimmy] Come on.
Well, I am grateful.
You know, I was thinking about
my first Tinsel Ball the other day.
Oh yes. Honey, that's where
I first met you.
Mm-hm.
You had that French roll
with the bangs swooped to the front.
[all laughing]
Okay, Miss Kimmy.
- [Georgia] She was looking good.
- Swooped?
You know what I do what I do
when I can, okay? [Laughs]
I remember my first Tinsel ball.
I was obsessed
with Diahann Carroll on Dynasty,
but my mama refused to perm my hair.
So she took a hot comb to my hair
and threw a roller set in there.
And I don't know how she did it,
but I was looking
like Dominique Deveraux soon enough.
[Kimmy] Okay
[all laughing]
You know, I-I-I don't know
what it is, you know,
seeing the young girls come in here,
especially the first timers,
to get their hair done.
I-I-I just get so excited for them.
Well, it's a big deal for the guys too.
They take it very seriously.
Especially, learning the formal dance.
Speaking of, how's the spotlight dance
going for you?
Well, I haven't started practicing yet,
but I did watch the choreographer video.
- It's a waltz.
- Oh.
Your father and I danced a waltz
when I was an honoree.
I know, Mom. Don't worry.
I won't taint the legacy by falling over.
Oh well, it's not you I'm worried about.
Just one of the other honorees
has two left feet.
Oh, mm.
I mean, who can't do the electric slide?
- [all laughing]
- Oh, no!
Being a lonely one this year
And I've been missing you baby
Kyle, it has been too long.
- Too long.
- [both laugh]
Oh, I see you've met our co-sponsor.
Yeah, um, he stopped by the salon.
Nice guy, right?
I mean, we haven't met, but between us,
I heard he was kinda bossy
with the committee,
like the ball was all about
his wine or something.
Seriously?
Huh!
I mean my mom, she said the same thing
but I thought she was overreacting.
Well, you know, she is good for a story.
But not this time.
I mean, don't get me wrong,
he is hell a fine.
But he's definitely got an agenda.
- Hm.
- What?
Were you hoping to have a real date for
the ball instead of being stuck with me?
Your best friend?
[scoffs] No.
Yeah, right, sis. [Chuckles]
Hey, did you watch
the dance video I sent you?
- I did.
- It's nothing too complicated, right?
No crazy lifts,
just beautiful lines and turns.
Look, you are gonna look like Cinderella.
The Brandy version. Of course.
Well, I wasn't aware there was another.
[chuckles] I love that
we have the same taste.
[laughs]
[mellow music playing]
Okay, so, if we can't put
the wine display in the lobby,
how about right over there?
- What do you think? All right. Good.
- Now that works better.
But I know you want your goods
out front and center
but the focus should be on the honorees.
I understand, I'm not trying
to take anything from anybody.
But I would like to get a little shine
on our new wines. That's all.
Now, have you given any thought
to the menu changes that I suggested?
I did.
And my opinion remains the same.
I know everything on the menu
doesn't pair perfectly
with your wines.
But our local caterers,
they have their specialties
and we need to stick with what works.
Ah, question. Now is this
the opinion of the committee
Or is it just yours?
- [chuckles]
- [quirky music plays]
We all agreed.
Okay. Well, maybe, just maybe seeing
or tasting in this case is believing.
Now, what I'd love to do,
I love to bring in some samples from
this little French Bistro that I found.
- I met the chef...
- Whoa, whoa, whoa!
You met with a chef?
I did, I just wanted to get the idea...
The vendors we already have under contract
are depending on the checks
from the catering.
We can't cut them out.
I'm not saying we cut them out.
I just wanna supplement the menu,
I don't wanna
completely change it, Mrs. Johnson.
I think we're making a bigger deal.
- [sighs]
- You know what, it's fine.
- It's fine. We'll just...
- No don't.
Cross that out.
[Georgia laughs]
Wow, you must be proud.
She deserves it.
She works so hard
but still finds time to help others.
Something tells me she gets that from you.
[Georgia chuckles softly]
I'm just glad she's got it.
You know, that thing on the inside
that compels you to look beyond yourself?
Yeah. That's why events like this
are so important.
They remind us of the good being done.
In fact, my parents
co-founded this ball back in '64.
- Really?
- Mm-hm.
During the Civil Rights movement.
It started as just a community
potluck at Christmas.
It was a fun way
to support small businesses
and community leaders
when we really needed to be lifted up.
It's grown more lavish,
but it's always been rooted in charity
and honoring the people out in the street.
Yeah.
Oh!
It's truly inspiring,
the work that these people do.
And all I ask
Is that you remember that
while we keep working together.
[chuckles] It's a deal.
All right.
Hey, where's Sienna?
Dropping supplies at the shelter.
What's up?
I have a video chat scheduled
with Noah in like two minutes.
Can you just finish my client up for me?
I'll just be a few minutes.
- I got you. Don't worry.
- Thank you.
Oh, and let Sienna know
her special conditioner is almost empty.
- We need a new batch already?
- Oh, yes.
Oh, and whatever happened
to that manufacturing deal?
That's all she would talk about last year.
Well, from what I heard,
the timing wasn't right.
- The timing?
- Mm.
Please. Good hair care
is needed every day.
Ha! Period, sis.
[both chuckling]
Hey, how you doing?
Oh, girl.
You look a little tired, sergeant.
Are you getting enough sleep?
I'm fine.
Don't worry about me.
[scoffs] Well, that's an impossible ask.
You know that.
Okay.
Then let me give you
something else to focus on.
I finally got a response
to my request for leave.
And?
I really like your hair like this.
It's cute.
[chuckles] Okay, Noah.
Do not play with me right now.
Are you clear to come home?
[mellow music plays]
[Ella screeching]
I take it Noah will be home for Christmas.
My man gets home two days before the ball.
[laughs] That's good.
'Cause now you guys
can have a little bit of time
to try to learn
one of them group dances. [Laughs]
Yup.
- Now, Miss Kimmy
- Hm?
I know this is your first Christmas
without Mr. J
[sighs]
Have you given more thought
to going to the ball with anybody?
- Maybe a friend?
- You're not gonna let this go, are you?
Ella, I told you, I don't need a plus one.
Well, that doesn't change the fact
that there's someone
who wants to be added to your equation.
Okay, you gonna stop playing
with me, little girl.
What, we just gonna pretend
Mr. Terry doesn't have a crush on you?
Uh, he doesn't.
- Oh.
- Okay.
It's not like he's some scrub.
He is the owner of Terry's Soul.
That's one of the best restaurants
in town.
I mean, when's the last time
you paid for a meal there?
Okay, you know what?
You betta get her.
[all chuckling]
She's a trip.
[peppy music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[sighs]
[Sienna sighs]
How you doing?
- Hey, hi.
- [Lawrence laughs]
- I'm good.
- Yeah.
- You mind if I...
- Yeah, please do.
- You sure? I don't wanna
- Yes. [Chuckles]
- No.
- Okay, all right.
- This is crazy, right? [Laughs]
- Yeah.
Hey, Mr. Terry, how are you?
Oh, thank you. Thank you very much.
I heard the bells go off the
Oh, this looks amazing.
Mm-hm.
How long have you been vegan?
No, no, I'm not vegan.
I just think the food here slaps.
- So
- So
- Where'd you move from?
- California.
Yeah, my family's vineyard is in Napa.
And so, I've been here, God, like a month.
- Napa?
- [Lawrence] Mm-hm.
My grandfather started the company.
We're like, three generations in
at this point.
- Wow, that's impressive.
- Yeah.
My roots will always be in Napa
but setting up shop in Atlanta,
it was just, it's a no-brainer.
I mean, I like the food here
the-the art, the history,
it's like a whole
Black cultural experience.
I just, I wanted my company
in the mix of all that.
- It's called Uzuri, right?
- [Lawrence] Mm-hm.
- Am I pronouncing it correctly?
- Yes, you are.
It means beauty in Swahili.
It's actually what my grandfather
would call my grandmother.
He'd always say that their love
strengthened the vines.
- So he was a romantic.
- Mm-hm. He was.
Mm.
Um, so how is the ball prep coming?
Uh, good. I was able to catch up
on some of the honorees.
[both chuckling]
You know the grooming van
that you take to different shelters,
that's just, God, Sienna,
it's incredibly kind.
- Thanks.
- Yeah.
It's gotta be hard.
Oh, yeah. It is, but
Seeing what it does for their spirits
makes it so worth it.
And then your mother told me
that your grandparents
co-founded the event.
It actually makes sense
because she is such a stickler
for all the ball's traditions.
She's just trying to preserve
what your family created.
I get it.
You have a beautiful smile.
Hmm.
- Thank you.
- Yeah.
So, uh, we're doing a couple
of holiday wines this year.
Uh, one red and one white.
A good bottle makes a great gift.
Yeah. So, I would love for you
to come by the shop tonight.
And I just wanna get
your opinion on the wines.
- What-what, uh, tonight?
- [Lawrence] Yeah.
Um
I, uh [sighs] I wish I could
but I have a lot going on so, uh,
maybe some other time?
Sure. No worries, I'm not going anywhere.
Love lives on
For the holidays
Nice. Do a really nice wash
All right. And it's best to
wrap it every night.
Bye.
Oh, I'll take that.
Thank you.
It's for me.
[upbeat music plays in salon]
[gasps]
Oh my God! It's from Noah.
He got us Christmas ornaments.
- Us?
- Yes.
- Okay, wait. Excuse me.
- Oops! Excuse me. I'll be right back.
Hey, he already had our approval,
but I don't mind a young man
that keeps trying.
- Right?
- Oh, wow!
- Oh!
- Oh, that's beautiful. What in the...
- Aw!
- That's beautiful.
Let me get this box for you, babe.
- [Kimmy] What we got here?
- [all gasp]
[Kimmy] Oh, wow!
This is for you.
Bless his heart.
- [laughs]
- Aw!
[chuckles]
Oh!
Child. This is from Memorial Day.
Boy, we had a good time that day,
didn't we?
- We had a time.
- Oh my God!
This was y'all rescuing me
from that terrible date.
And I told you that guy's profile
was sketchy.
Yes, you did.
But Noah was such a saint
to come with you.
[gasps]
[mellow music plays]
This was two years ago.
The night I met his parents.
- Oh!
- Mm.
Let's put them on the tree.
- Okay.
- Okay.
[all chuckling]
Let me see. I don't know where to put it.
[Sienna] Mm-hm.
You came along
- That's beautiful.
- Mm-hm.
And in this coldest winter
[Sienna sighs]
[phone rings]
Hm.
Ugh, my gosh!
The thought of doing this spotlight dance
is starting to stress me out.
- Hm.
- Well, don't worry.
If anyone can cure
your two left feet, it's Kyle.
- What?
- Ha ha ha!
Hey! I know how to dance.
Oh.
- You gonna try that?
- What?
- I don't know how to dance?
- I'm not saying nothing.
Ooh, girl. Good day.
- See you tomorrow.
- Okay.
- Drive safe.
- You too.
[sighs]
[Sienna] Hm.
[quirky music playing]
Oh, oh!
Sienna.
- Sienna, I can see you.
- [chuckles]
[Lawrence] What are you doing?
- Hi.
- [Lawrence] Hi.
Um, uh
I, uh
You, um, had asked me,
um, to stop by the other day.
Uh, but I didn't think
I'd have enough time.
Just, stop. Please come in.
- I can't stay too long.
- That's okay.
I'll take whatever time I can get.
- Come on, get in here.
- Okay.
- Thank you.
- How long have you, uh, been out here?
[mellow music playing]
Um, yeah, I'm still waiting
on a few shipments to come in, but
It's really nice in here.
Thank you.
So, what do you recommend?
Every year for Christmastime
[Lawrence] All right, now
listen, if we are gonna do this
we're going to do this properly, okay?
Because there is an order to things
and we are not savages.
[laughs] So, we start, we see it
we swirl it, we smell it,
we sip it, and finally, we savor it.
So I want you to grab the wine.
- Okay. Okay.
- Yeah, just lift-lift it up.
- Like that? All right.
- Yeah, just like that.
What we're looking at,
we're looking at the wine's color.
-You're looking at its clarity
-Ah!
And from that we can actually tell,
the age of the wine,
we can even tell what kind of grapes
were used to make it.
Yeah, just give it like a gentle swirl.
Yeah. Kind of waking up the aromas.
- Like this?
- Yep. Yep.
And what do you smell?
- Yeah.
- Okay. [Sniffs]
Um
I'm getting peach.
Right.
Honey. [Sniffs]
And something else. Uh
- Is it plum?
- It's apricot, but very close.
Yeah, now we sip
and uh, no, before you sip,
uh, I just want you to pay close attention
to how those flavors combine.
Okay, uh
[slurps]
- Ooh!
- Hm. It's good?
- This is really good.
- [laughs]
From the smell I thought it might
be too sweet but it's not.
Yeah, there you go.
You have a very keen sense of smell.
There you go.
Water, to cleanse the palate.
Oh, scent is very important
in hair care, you know.
The way your hair smells,
it leaves an impression.
Yes, you know, it's kind of like
a fine wine.
Uh, now this is our red blend.
- Hm.
- I want you to try that.
- Um
- Let me see what you got.
And I'm watching you.
- So serious.
- Yeah, you know.
Wine is, uh, it's a very serious business.
- Mm-hm.
- Okay.
- Swirl.
- Mm-hm. Now smell.
- Yeah.
- Ooh.
I'm getting berries [sniffs]
And maybe some spices.
That's not bad.
[slurps]
Mm.
- Ptch! I love that.
- Yeah.
Good, it took years to perfect that.
[chuckling]
Well, not that I doubted it, but [sighs]
I can tell, you genuinely love your job.
Oh, I do. Look, I know most people,
you know, they
I'm aware, they look at me
and they don't think wine connoisseur
but my dad, he, he had me train,
he had me work as a sommelier for years,
and um, yeah, I think he just, you know,
he wanted to be sure that he could trust
passing the company reins to me.
- Wait, so you're in charge now?
- Mm-hm.
This is my first official year
in the boss's chair.
- Wow!
- Yeah.
- Congratulations.
- Thank you very much.
So, have the parents
started micromanaging yet?
How did you know?
[chuckling]
[inhales deeply]
No, I did, I listen, I
I broke away from tradition
when I moved here
but we needed more visibility
if we were gonna last.
You know, brand recognition
is so important.
And it was so difficult in such a,
such a overcrowded industry.
- Does that make any sense?
- Yeah, no.
I could totally relate to that.
I'm developing my own hair care line.
- Really?
- Yeah.
And it's just
so many other brands out there.
- The market is too saturated.
- [Lawrence] It is.
And it is really hard
to find ways to stand out.
That's why promoting the wine at the ball
I think is a great way to introduce
this place to the community.
And convince my parents that I'm not
trying to run our company into the ground.
Well, I'm no expert, but you've created
something really beautiful here.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
People are gonna love it.
Oh! My gosh, and this is, this is so good.
I thought I was gonna have
to lie to be nice, but
[Lawrence chuckling]
- To the ball.
- To the ball.
- Cheers.
- Cheers.
[mellow music playing]
- I just need you to sign.
- Here? Okay.
Chin up. Eye contact.
I wanted to ask you, now this number here,
uh, uh, is this a typo?
- Because this is...
- No, no, no, no.
She's been with us since day one.
- And this what she makes.
- That's what she makes.
Sienna.
- Hey, booboo.
- My queen.
Thank you so much for partnering up
with me on this.
- Of course.
- All right, that does it.
[Kyle] Do you think you got
the choreo down?
Yes. Yes. Good to go.
- Right, let's get started.
- Okay.
[instrumental music plays]
They've known each other
since high school.
- Mm.
- They're really good friends.
Yeah, he seems like a, a really nice guy.
He is.
We used to call him, Ella,
and Sienna The Three Musketeers.
They've always had each other's backs.
So you know how much I adore you, right?
Yes.
Well, I fear Ella more than I adore you.
What?
I just want you to know who to blame
for what's about to happen.
- Aah!
- Oh my God!
- Kyle, are you okay?
- Kyle?
Whoa, whoa, whoa!
- [Kyle groans]
- Whoa!
Are you all right?
It's just an old dance injury.
It flares up from time to time.
Lawrence, get him a chair, please.
- Okay.
- No, no, no, no.
Lawrence, um
I, actually like you to stand in for me.
You want me to stand in for you?
Yeah, well, she has no time to waste.
She has to learn this dance.
No, no, no. Kyle, you and I can just...
It's actually better this way.
I can see what you guys are doing.
It's easier for me to make adjustments.
- Okay.
- Look, I know you're very busy.
But Miss Georgia is a veteran
at putting on the ball.
You can trust her.
She'll take care of things. Right?
Well, he's not wrong about that.
Um, okay, sure, yeah. I'll do it.
Great. Okay. So, this is a Waltz.
So, let's get into our hold.
- Okay, I'm sorry.
- Okay.
This is Okay.
- Yes, I know.
- Okay. Okay.
- Beautiful. I'm gonna restart the music.
- Okay.
[Sienna scoffs]
I am so sorry.
Usually, he is
Really healthy.
Yeah, no, it's okay,
I don't, I don't mind.
- All right. Are we ready?
- Yeah.
[classical music plays]
- Ready?
- And
One, two, three. One, two, three.
Turn, two, three.
Turn, two, three.
Ah-huh.
[Sienna chuckles]
Wow!
This isn't your first Waltz.
I may have seen an online tutorial or two.
[chuckles] Now, don't laugh
I gotta be prepared.
Oh, I'm sorry,
I was just picturing you
at home alone practicing.
- Who says I was alone?
- Yes, yes, that's it, that's it.
Hold that eye contact.
And rise to standing.
- I was.
- [both chuckling]
Whoa! [Chuckles]
So, um
Do you have a date for the ball?
You know what, I just haven't had
any free time to find one yet.
Do, um
Honorees get a free bottle of wine?
You. Which one would you like?
And both is not a option.
I'll leave that up to you then.
All right.
[Kyle clears throat]
- Oh!
- Very nice, Lawrence.
Thank you, thank you.
If it wasn't for this knee,
I'd have to list you as an alternate.
- Hey, I'm here if you need me.
- Really?
Yeah.
Well, better safe than sorry.
- Might as well just have you...
- No, no. Kyle.
Sienna, this is
a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
It's for everyone to see you shine.
And it's meant to be shared
with someone important.
[Sienna splutter]
Well We've barely just met.
[scoffs] Didn't look like that to me.
I have a feeling you're gonna
recover just fine.
Do you not see the condition of this knee?
Can you think about someone else
other than yourself for two seconds?
Yes. This is the whole reason
I'm being spotlighted, Kyle.
Okay, you stop making sense.
I'm getting an ice pack.
- Lawrence?
- Hm?
- You're taking my place.
- Yes, sir.
[quirky music plays]
- Oh.
- Oh.
I'm gonna murder Ella.
- What was that? Oh.
- Nothing.
Um [inhales deeply]
Wha [huffs]
[sighs]
You really do not have to do this.
So, wait, you don't, you don't want me to?
- No.
- Oh. Well, good.
[scoffs]
Sienna?
Hey. What's up?
Is there something going on
between you and our co-sponsor?
What? No. Mom [inhales sharply]
Kyle. He is just being messy.
Maybe.
But there definitely seems
more to it than that.
- I'm not trying to pry...
- Yes, you are.
Mom, Lawrence and I, we're
[sighs deeply]
we're dance partners.
- Ah-huh?
- Mm-hm.
Careful. He might just two-step
right into your heart.
[gasps]
- Mom.
- [chuckles]
- [scoffs]
- Oh girl, please. [Laughs]
Come on, walk your mother to the car.
- Mother is always right.
- I cannot believe you.
- [somber music playing]
- [sobs]
[sniffles]
Girl
I cannot believe you told Kyle
Hey. What's wrong?
Noah
Something happened.
Some emergency.
His unit's out there
tending to a mission and
There's nothing he can do.
He's okay, but he's not coming home.
I am so sorry.
It's okay.
I already knew this could happen.
It's just the reality of it.
You know he would be here if he could.
I do.
It's just
I don't know if I can keep
doing this long term.
I mean, there's another year left
in his current tour, and
I don't know where
they will assign him next.
Ella
You two love each other so much.
And if there was anyone
that could weather the distance,
it's you two.
[music continues]
I used to believe that.
But sometimes
Oh!
Sometimes I miss him so much it hurts.
Listen.
You will get through this.
I'm here anytime you need to talk.
- Okay?
- Mm-hm.
I got you.
[door opens]
- Morning, ladies.
- It's okay.
Okay, what's wrong, Ell?
Noah's leave's been canceled.
- No!
- Yeah.
It's okay.
- I'm okay.
- Well, then why are you crying?
- Because I'm not okay!
- Oh, baby!
[Ella sobbing]
It's gonna be okay. Mm-hm.
Noah's gonna be all right, honey.
And you know, you got this to lean on.
[Kimmy chuckles]
Well, I can tell you all
something that'll
Make you feel better.
- What?
- Y'all were right.
Mr. Terry asked me to the ball.
- [gasps]
- No, calm down.
No, not doing that. I said no.
Hasn't even been a full year
Mr. J done passed.
I still can't believe
he had the nerve to ask me.
- [Ella] I can.
- [scoffs]
He's been eyeing you for years.
Mm-hm. I get a headache, honey,
thinking about dating.
Oof! I don't know how y'all do it.
All these apps
and I seen that show Catfish.
[all laughing]
Oh, it is a jungle out there.
Mm-hm.
You know what would really make
me really happy?
What?
One of your famous Christmas pies.
Normally, you would've had two
brought to the salon by now.
Is your oven broken?
No. Just, um
[sighs] I'll take a break from baking.
[mellow music playing]
A break from baking?
At Christmas?
- What's going on?
- Nothing. Nothing.
Miss Kimmy.
I'm just not in the mood right now. Okay?
You're still coming to Christmas dinner
with my family though, right?
Yes, and I've already told your mom
not to expect a pie this year.
- And she took it pretty hard.
- I understand her pain.
[Kimmy chuckles]
Look, I know y'all like to give me
all the credit.
But that's because he let me have it.
We both came up with that recipe.
It was our Christmas tradition.
[chuckles]
We'd put on those holiday aprons.
And he always insisted
on putting on one of those Santa hats.
[laughs] That was his uniform. Okay.
And you know and, we'd always
have the music playing
'cause you can't bake
without the proper playlist.
Mm-hm. I know The Temptations
made the cut.
- Mm.
- Little Stevie Wonder.
Always. [Chuckles]
But his favorite was Nat King Cole.
- Mm.
- Yeah.
[chuckles] That was our Christmas bakes.
Pies, cookies, cakes.
I'd have to pull a teeth
to get that man to make dinner
but a gingerbread house?
[all laughing]
[sighs] Oh, yeah, I guess
somehow that was his lane.
Look, I know we can't replace him,
but we would love to help you
keep tradition alive.
[Ella] Yeah.
And when Noah does get home
I need him to try that pie, Miss Kimmy.
- [laughs]
- Okay, that pie could get me a ring.
- Yeah.
- [all laughing]
[Kimmy sighs] Oh, mm.
You know you can talk to us
about anything, right?
And I know, I make jokes
to keep things light,
but I see how sad you are sometimes.
Yeah, me too.
We are here for you
Just as much as you are for us.
I know that.
And I appreciate it.
Well, maybe I should share the recipe.
I think he would want me
to pass it down the family.
- Mm-hm.
- My family.
- Aw. My babies. My babies.
- Aw, you know, we love you.
I love you. Thank you, babies.
Thank you. Thank you.
All right, well, let's get to work soon.
[Sienna and Ella laughing]
[quirky music playing]
Oh! [Grunting]
Mhm.
[sighs deeply]
- Mm.
- [computer chimes]
Mm. [Chuckling]
- [computer chimes]
- [Sienna gasps]
[computer chimes]
[music continues]
[sighs]
[phone vibrates]
- Hello.
- [Lawrence] Hi.
- It's Lawrence.
- [objects clatter]
[groaning]
Hi.
- [Sienna] How are you?
- I'm good.
Uh, listen, I hope you don't mind
but I got your cell from the,
you know, honoree info sheet.
Um, how are you doing?
I'm I'm good.
And thanks for the save the other day.
I I really appreciate you
stepping in the way you did.
That's no problem.
I was glad I could help.
Um [clears throat]
So, listen I was uh,
I was calling because, um
I thought we should go out
to dinner tonight.
- Dinner?
- [Lawrence] Dinner.
[Lawrence] Yeah, I've been dining solo
ever since I got here.
And I figured,
you wouldn't be the worst company.
So, yeah, dinner.
Wow! [Chuckles]
What an invitation.
How could I possibly turn that down?
All right, I figured
since we're dancing partners
it, you know, might help if we
get to know each other a little better.
You know, improve our
our chemistry on the dance floor.
Okay, yeah, um
[Lawrence] Okay, it's a date.
Sure, dinner sounds great.
I, uh, I-I gotta go.
Uh, text me the details?
[Lawrence] Okay. All right, bye.
Your client just got here.
Great. I'll be out in a minute.
You look a little flushed.
- Are you all right?
- Um
Yeah, I'm fine.
Okay, boss lady, what are you up to?
I just got off the phone with Lawrence.
- Oh!
- I know.
He invited me out to dinner.
Okay, first date. Let's go!
Calm down.
I'm not trying to rush into anything, but
I'm not gonna lie, I'm excited.
You know, I love this for you.
He seems to really have
his stuff together.
[sighs deeply] My gosh!
The butterflies are starting to rise,
which is crazy because I haven't
felt this way in forever.
Crazy good.
Sienna, enjoy this moment.
Aw!
I'm gonna try.
[chuckles]
Ouch!
Don't think I forgot about
that foolery you pulled with Kyle.
Okay, I'm sorry. It's just
- After your little late night rendezvous...
- [crackles]
Ouch! [Groans]
I mean, wine tasting session,
that he piqued your interest.
And I was right!
[sighs]
I gotta stop telling you things.
No, you don't.
You're worse than my mother sometimes.
And you love it!
[gentle music plays]
This is... Oh, this is... Oh, hey.
Thank you very much.
- All right.
- Thank you. Ah.
- Love this place.
- I know.
Kyle may have mentioned it to me.
- Of course he did.
- [Lawrence chuckles]
What else has he told you?
Why, are you scared?
[phone ringing]
- Oh.
- No.
[sighs]
- Is everything okay?
- Yes, everything is fine.
It's just, it's exhausting having
every decision that you make
second-guessed.
It's like, you start doubting, you know,
"Am I making the right choices," you know?
- Is that your dad?
- Yes, it is my dad.
It's like he wants me to do
everything exactly the way he did it.
But I'm saying, we're not gonna last
if we don't evolve.
- Mm-hm.
- You know, risks are necessary.
But also scary.
- [Lawrence sighs]
- Maybe, he is just a little worried.
What, even so, you know,
it would be nice to feel supported.
That's all I'm saying.
Well, I understand
what it's like to be a boss.
From what you told me before,
you didn't just move out here on a whim.
You know what you're doing,
and soon enough you'll prove that to him.
- Just trust your instincts.
- Hm.
You know what my instincts
are telling me right now?
My instincts are saying that there
is no way a woman as beautiful as you are
should have been bringing
a friend to the ball.
How does that happen?
[exhales sharply]
Well, I'm divorced.
That was five years ago,
so, I'm well over it.
But I don't know, I've just been unlucky
with the men I've been dating recently.
[laughs] You sound like me.
I mean, not the divorce part
but just really bad luck with women
and just, it's tiring trying to find...
The one?
Exactly. Yeah.
And then it's hard to just keep
putting yourself out there.
[Sienna sighs] Tell me about it.
I don't know if it actually was,
but I do remember dating being
much easier when I was younger.
Yeah. I don't know, maybe we just,
we're getting old
and we're just too lazy.
- Maybe? I don't know.
- [laughing]
Just, I don't know. [Chuckles]
[instrumental music playing]
So, what happened in your marriage?
And if it's too personal, you know, I
No, no, it's fine. Um
I just wasn't getting the same level
of support I was giving.
He didn't want me
to start my own business.
He discouraged me
whenever I brought it up.
Hm.
You know, I think some men
are just intimidated by successful women.
But good for you,
for not giving up your dreams.
Ptch! Aw!
- Thank you.
- [Lawrence] You're welcome.
So, where you at with the hair care line?
Ah, nowhere.
[groans] I keep going back and forth.
I mean, I've crunched the numbers,
I've done the research
but honestly, I don't know if I'm ready
to take on the stress of it all.
But you love what you do, right?
- [Lawrence] Right?
- Yeah.
So, let's say, for me, right,
the company wasn't
just something that I inherited.
Like, wine is my passion
so, why wouldn't this new hair care line
be, you know, like an extension
of what you love?
It would.
At first I just wanted to make quality,
affordable hair care products,
especially after I started
the grooming van service.
So many of the shelters we visit
rely on donations of toiletries.
That's where I come in.
[laughs]
- [Sienna] What?
- Nothing.
It's just, it's something
that your mother said.
What do you mean?
Uh, she said, how did she put it?
Uh, she said that you have a selfless side
that creeps into everything that you do.
Well, that's a mother's love for you.
Yeah. It's also the truth.
I mean, listen, I've I've never started
a business from scratch
but you and I both know
how hard it is to do, right?
What you wanna do
with this hair care line,
Sienna, it would help so many people.
I just don't wanna see you
abandon your dream.
- Thank you.
- [Lawrence] You're welcome.
I think this dance partner thing
might work out better than I thought.
Wait a second, are you saying
that I'm exceeding expectations?
I'll do my best not to step on your toes.
That's okay, I can handle it.
I'm a lot to handle.
Then, I'd get a gym membership quick.
So, you don't mind putting in
the extra work?
Ooh, not for the right person.
Okay.
I'll toast to that.
Mm. It's not as good as yours.
Definitely not.
[laughing]
Wishing for hearts filled with joy
Kids waking up
With a living room full of toys
I hope and pray
You got a smile on your face
Everywhere you go
You spread your love around
Christmastime is here
Magic in the air
Time to get together
To sound magic and cheer
Christmastime is here
Feel the magic in the air
Let your troubles be outta sight
You can count on me
Oh hi
- It was so beautiful.
- Isn't this nice? I told you.
Oh, come on, come on, come on, now.
[both laughing]
Be careful.
- [Sienna sighs]
- [Lawrence] Oh wow!
[Lawrence] Look at this.
So, have you fallen in love yet?
- Oh, with Atlanta.
- Oh.
Yes. I am falling hard for Atlanta.
Good, because I think
it's a great fit for you.
I bet you do.
[both laugh]
Come on.
[Lawrence] You feeling good
about the spotlight dance?
[Sienna] You know,
I'm a little nervous about that.
[Lawrence chuckles] I got you.
Thank you.
Oh.
Wow.
- This is beautiful.
- Right?
Um
By the way
You know, Kyle was faking his injury.
Yes.
Do you know I saw Kyle jogging to his car
like two seconds
after he limped away from us.
[chuckles]
Ah! He couldn't help trying to play cupid.
Mm, kinda glad that he did though.
Otherwise who knows how long
it would've taken
to get you into my arms.
We do make really good dance partners.
Hm, but the question is
Is that all?
I'm here
I'm here
[vocalizing]
Oh oh yeah
I'm here
I'm here
[Lawrence laughing]
[Ella squeals] I knew it!
Lawrence done snatching my girl's
whole heart right up outta her chest.
- Stop it.
- Why?
You literally have been glowing
for the last few days.
The boy got you floating around
the salon like Tinker Bell.
Okay, okay. Fine.
I will admit it.
Things have been going great between us.
I mean [sighs deeply]
amazing.
- I feel a "but" coming on.
- Mm-hm.
But
I think that's what has me
a little nervous.
I mean, I haven't felt this way
about a guy since Greg,
and we all know how that turned out.
Okay, Sienna, you can't measure
every man by your ex's toxic traits.
I know, it's just the way
he switched up on me
that has me questioning
my judgment right now.
Okay, you are not the same woman.
Your priorities have completely changed.
And you know exactly who you are
and exactly what you want.
Ah!
[sighs] I know.
But a part of me is waiting
for the other shoe to drop.
Either Lawrence has no red flags
Or they're extremely well-hidden.
Okay, it's it's natural
for you to be fearful
after you've been burned.
But you gotta be brave with love. Be bold.
I'm trying.
I am.
I'm doing my best not to be too much
in my head about things
and just enjoy this feeling.
As you should.
And the timing couldn't be more perfect.
You'll get to share
the one night out of the year
that we get to dress up like royalty
and be treated like it too.
That part, mm-hm.
Is it dumb to wanna coordinate
our outfits?
- Uh-uh!
- [all laughing]
- What?
- No way.
Okay, no, baby, no. It's not, no.
It's old, but it ain't dumb.
[laughs] Okay, but
What do you feel about him?
Yeah, Sienna. Is he about
to be your new man or what?
I think I want him to be.
I really like him, y'all.
[Ella squealing]
Okay, okay, so, what we have to do next
is we have to make him
one of my Christmas pies.
[gasps]
Oh, honey, one bite
and his stomach won't let you go.
[all laughing]
- Okay, let's get started. Come on, girls.
- Oh, wait, wait, wait, hold up. Hold up.
- What?
- Ah!
- That's right. The aprons.
- There you go.
[Kimmy laughs]
We had to get in uniform.
- Mrs. Claus.
- Thank you.
[Kimmy laughs]
- Ooh, I've got the tunes.
- All right. Okay, all right.
[Kimmy laughs]
Time to get that man, Sienna.
[sighs]
[mellow music plays]
Let's grab a bowl, grab some flour.
Yes, let's make it happen. Okay.
You do know how to crack an egg now,
don't you?
- Can she crack a egg? I don't know.
- What?
Okay. All right. Yes.
- I'm not sayin' nothin'.
- Okay. Okay, yes.
I like what you're doing over there.
[music continues]
[Lawrence] Can I say something,
what I think you need to Hey, question.
Why do you think I chose the ball?
Do you know how many influential people
will be there?
The company is my priority.
Look, I have zero issues, I will pack up,
I will leave tomorrow if need be.
Yeah, are you ser
Sienna, are you serious?
Listen, and she is not a distr...
I already told you,
Sienna is not going to be a prob...
[somber music plays]
I I gotta go.
Look, I gotta go. I'll call you back.
Um
Hey, listen, Sienna.
- So, I won't be a problem?
- No, no, no, no, no, no.
It's not how it sounded, okay?
I I... Let me just explain.
Oh, explain how easy it is
for you to just up and leave?
Please! Please explain.
Because stupid me was believing
that this thing between us
actually might mean something to you.
Especially after last night.
I know you're upset, okay, but please know
last night wasn't nothing to me.
- You know that.
- I'm still waiting for an explanation.
Okay, I was on the phone with my dad.
We got into it over the financials.
He doesn't truly trust the new direction
that I'm tryin' to move in.
And basically, he threatened to replace me
with my brother
if the launch doesn't go well.
Guess, the numbers
for the holiday wine are off...
Does it look like I care
about your sales figures?
Using the ball to launch the wine,
that was my idea.
Okay, do you do you have any idea
how much pressure I'm under right now?
Right.
So I may not be a distraction
to your business plans as you said,
but I am a good way to pass time
while you see
if this expansion experiment works.
That was just my way of doubling down.
And what if it doesn't work, huh?
What then?
But it will.
It will. You just have to trust me.
Okay, listen, if this relationship...
What relationship?
Don't do that. Please, don't do that.
Don't pretend like you don't know
how I feel.
Don't pretend like I don't have
a reason to not trust you.
But you don't. You know you don't.
I don't know, like what this is
but I am being completely honest
with you right now.
It's almost like you need me
to be a bad guy or something.
What? That's not true.
I came here to tell you that
You came to tell me what?
What were you gonna say?
It doesn't matter anymore.
- Sienna!
- [scoffs\]
What were you gonna say?
[door opens]
[door closes]
[sighs]
[sighs]
"Be bold," you said,
"It'll be fine," you said.
Look, he sounds stuck
between a rock and hard place.
He's obviously being pressured.
Well, I know that.
But why start a relationship
if it's not something
you can truly commit to?
But did he say that?
'Cause I don't think
that's what he was saying.
Uh, I'm sorry.
Are you taking his side now?
Okay, don't be ridiculous.
I'm just usually a really great
judge of character.
You know that. [Chuckles]
But hon, you know what?
At the end of the day,
we still got each other, right?
So okay, no Noah, no Lawrence
No problem.
I would love to be your date for the ball.
Aw. I love you so much.
[Ella] Okay, sis, I'm gonna need
you to slow down on that pie.
Yeah, you still need to fit
into your dress.
[groans]
[sighs deeply]
I'm not mad, just disappointed.
I thought you saw this ball
as more than just a stepping stone.
[sighs]
Mrs. Johnson, I do.
Look, I I understand
what this ball means to your family,
I understand what it means to the city.
I respected every decision
that the committee made.
Okay, because this is not just
another opportunity
for me anymore.
I don't know what Sienna told you,
but, uh, she...
Kyle requested that he be listed
as Sienna's dance partner.
And I can see you're just
as upset as she is.
I just wish I could fix it.
You know?
I just feel misunderstood, Mrs. Johnson.
Ptch! Lawrence
I know you're a good man.
I've seen that.
But I think you just have to decide
If it's worth trying to clear things up.
[somber music plays]
["Here's to Christmas"
by Andy Powell playing]
- [alarm blaring]
- I wanna believe
I wanna believe
I wanna believe
Believe in the magic of Christmas
When I was a little girl
I'd countdown the days
Till Christmas is my favorite holiday
But as I grew up
Somehow I lost my way
Please I wanna hear
The sleigh bells on Santa's sleigh
[phone buzzing]
I wanna believe
I wanna believe
I wanna believe
In the magic of Christmas
I wanna believe
In the magic of Christmas
- Magic magic
- Whoo!
Ooh-ooh!
- Oh! Girl!
- Oh! Girl!
We did that, boss man.
[all sigh deeply]
- Oh!
- Lord.
Billie Holiday always looks
so elegant in this style.
I've always wanted to try it.
Mm.
Ooh! Yes, yes.
- It suits you.
- [Kimmy] Mm-hm.
[sighs]
[sighs deeply]
[sighs deeply]
I hate seeing her like that.
Tonight's supposed to be her big night.
[Kimmy] You know what, it'll be fine.
We're all gonna be there with her.
And Kyle's doing
the spotlight dance with her.
Yeah, but I feel kinda guilty
for pushing her toward Lawrence.
- Well, don't.
- Hm?
Georgia, do you know something
we don't know?
I know my daughter is stubborn
and she should have picked up
the phone when he called.
Oh!
It's not like he doesn't know
where she works.
Uh, not with you two standing guard.
He isn't stupid.
Miss Georgia, I'ma need you
to spill the beans.
Or you're about to be walking
out here looking like buckwheat.
Ooh!
Okay, you know, I'm not serious.
But come on.
What's going on?
One second.
Mom, what are you doing?
Me?
What are you doing?
I'm only going to say this once
and then you're gonna do
what you're going to do.
Mom...
There are no perfect men women,
or conditions when it comes to love.
They're either someone
worth fighting for or they're not.
And, baby, I think you're just too scared
to get back in the ring.
Which is a shame
Because I've waited a very long time
to see you as happy as Lawrence makes you.
Okay?
[sniffles]
Now, Ella is just about
finished with my hair,
but I didn't want to forget
to give you this.
[gasps]
Mom, is that...
It's the necklace your grandmother gave me
the year I was an honoree.
I thought it'd be nice
for you to have something
from the both of us tonight.
But you don't have to wear it
if you don't want to.
[Sienna sniffles]
Thank you.
Don't let anything spoil
how special tonight is.
It's Christmastime.
We're all together
and I promise you, Sienna,
you will remember this night
for the rest of your life.
[laughing]
[Kimmy] Aww, that is so sweet.
Little mama-daughter b...
- [Georgia] Uh, Kimmy?
- Mm?
I know that is not your Christmas pie.
It is.
The same Christmas pie you said you
wouldn't be bringing to Christmas dinner?
The same Christmas pie
I had to mentally prepare my heart
and my body not to receive?
That Christmas pie?
Yes, one and the same.
But thankfully
Uh, had a little help
pushing me through that baker's block.
And uh, I can assure you
that you will have a fresh pie
on Christmas day.
Oh! Thank God for that.
[all laughing]
Listen, dear. I know this season
has been hard for you.
But this pie on our table
brings him there with us.
Him and all the good memories.
[chuckles]
[whispers]
He loved your sweet potato pie too.
[all chuckling]
You know, I've been
getting into pumpkin pie lately.
What?
I didn't say it was better.
[all chuckling]
All right.
Chop-chop, belles,
we've got a ball to get to.
- Yes.
- [all laughing]
- [Sienna] Let's get ready, ladies.
- All right.
[singers vocalizing "Deck The Halls"]
[bright music plays]
Everybody needs to hear this
Front and center, from my lips
The time of the year but don't trip
Say no, no, no, no, no
Gonna ring-a-ting-ting my bell
Gonna fall in love, kiss and tell
I don't need a man this Christmas
Gonna be with my girls
My girls, my girls
[playing "Deck The Halls"]
And what about you?
Uh-huh. I know what you doing.
[chuckles]
Hello, darling. How are you?
You look beautiful.
Thank you. Thank you for coming.
Hey, sweetie.
[music continues]
[sighs]
Oh, smoked salmon.
I will. Thank you very much.
[chuckles]
Mr. Terry.
[instrumental music plays]
[sighs]
- [Kyle] Hey, Sienna.
- Oh.
- Hey.
- You look blindingly beautiful tonight.
Aw, thank you.
And you look amazing as well.
Yes. Yes, I do. [Chuckles]
Well, the committee
really stepped it up this year.
- Mm.
- They had some help, of course.
I'm just really glad
everything came together.
Have you seen our co-sponsor yet tonight?
Not yet.
Because you're avoiding him or
No, no, I just
I just haven't ran into him yet.
But I'm sure, when I see him
it'll be fine.
I mean, we're both adults. Right?
This event is bigger than the both of us.
Right.
So, let's celebrate.
Yes, let's. [Chuckles]
Hm! This is good.
Have you had this before?
- I have.
- Hm.
[Sienna sighs]
- I'm gonna go.
- Yeah.
Yeah. Okay.
[Kyle sighs deeply]
Hey, get up.
You have paid too much for this dress
for everyone not to see it.
Listen, I know Noah is not here.
But he can't miss out
on how beautiful you are.
Come on, let's go.
We're gonna take a picture. Stand
right in front of the Christmas trees.
- Okay.
- Ah.
[Ella] Ah, right here?
[Sienna] To the right.
Uh, like this?
Um, maybe to the left a little bit.
- Here?
- Perfect.
Oh wait, does my hair look good?
He's gonna love it.
Okay. Cheese.
- [shutter clicks]
- [Sienna] Here, take a look.
- Okay. Let me see.
- [squeals]
Hey, did I get photo bombed? [Gasps]
- Noah?
- Sorry, I'm late.
[Ella shrieks]
[laughing]
- Wait. Did you know that he was coming?
- Uh, I had no idea until now.
I swear.
How are you even here right now?
The mission was handled quicker
than we thought it would take.
I rushed home as soon as I could.
I wanted to surprise you.
[chuckles] I love you.
I love you too.
- Aw!
- [all applauding]
["Joy to the World" playing on violin]
[Lawrence clears throat]
[sighs] Good evening.
Oh, and Merry Christmas. [Chuckles]
Um Wow. It's great to see everybody here.
Y'all look beautiful.
Um, co-sponsoring this ball
has just been a
It's been an absolute joy
and I know that um,
well, our partnership,
it it happened suddenly but um
Boy, I've really, really
treasured this time.
You know, here in Atlanta, um
Uh, I think I found the type of beauty
that my grandfather found
when he started this company.
It's the type of beauty that, uh,
that strengthens the vines
of our vineyards.
So, it's my hope, it's my wish
that Uzuri Wines will continue
to be a part
of such an amazing tradition
for years and years to come.
A tradition that the ball committee
worked really hard to make happen.
- So let's give it up for them.
- [all applauding]
And we love to bring up
our lovely host for this evening,
Mrs. Georgia Johnson.
Please, let me help you.
- [all cheering]
- Whoo!
Whoo-hoo!
- There you are.
- Thank you. Thank you so much.
Well, this town
This town has always
has shown up and shown out.
[all chuckling]
Thank you so much
for the generous donations
that have already been made
to support our local charities.
And a huge thank you to our co-sponsor.
We could not have done this
without your support this year.
- Thank you.
- Give him a hand, guys.
[all applauding]
Now, the people that are being honored
give of themselves all year round.
Their acts of kindness,
they make our community stronger.
And they remind us of the positive change
that every single person in this room
can make possible.
Well, the party
is just getting started, y'all.
[all chuckling]
So, let's have a good time
and Merry Christmas!
[all cheer and applaud]
Now did you pick up what
Lawrence was putting down?
I did.
Good, because he's standing
right over there.
Oh and quick word of advice
Please bring down one of those walls
that are guarding your heart.
I don't think he means to break it.
- Hi.
- Hi.
Wow, you look incredible.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
[Lawrence chuckles]
- [Ella] It's so crazy.
- [both laugh]
- Ah
- Okay, stop.
- No
- Ooh, I want you to try this.
- All right. Mm-hm.
- Okay. Ready? All right.
- Mm! This is good.
- Mm-hm. I told you.
It is not as good
as Kimmy's Christmas pie though.
You've been gassing
this pie up for months.
That's because it's true.
- I missed you.
- I missed you too.
You know, I called.
I know. I just
[sighs]
I wasn't in the right headspace to listen.
Hm.
What about now?
- Now?
- Now.
Well, I've had some time to think
and our last conversation
didn't have to be what it was.
[Lawrence sighs deeply]
I feel like the smartest thing
for both of us,
is for you to [inhales deeply]
have some time
to figure out
what's best for your company.
Wow!
And I don't want to add
to the stress of any of that.
[Georgia] And now for the first
of our spotlight dances.
Please welcome to the floor
Sienna Johnson and Kyle Harris.
[all applauding]
I um asked Kyle after...
I know.
You're gonna do great.
[sighs deeply]
[applauding continues]
["Christmas Kinda Love"
by Sasha Allen playing]
[music swells]
Remember how it used to feel
When Christmastime was almost here
Can barely sleep 'cause
you've got butterflies
You got me like jingle bells
Jingle bells
I'm so glad you came
Well don't you go
Say you'll stay
When the seasons change
Christmastime love
You make me wanna believe
Christmastime love
There's really no better gift for me
Christmastime love
Oh aren't you least into me
Christmastime love
Oh you got me feeling
Christmas kind love
I really really wanna believe
Christmastime love
Oh Christmas kinda love
So if you wanna take my hand
Dance the night away
We can let our hearts create the sound
Whoa whoa you know
You saved and stole my heart and soul
You're my Christmas kinda love
[cheering and applause]
You done did that!
You look like a princess.
Well done, young man. I'm rooting for you.
Thank you.
[indistinct chatter]
[instrumental music plays]
[sighs]
[woman] You look so beautiful
out there, Sienna.
- Thank you.
- Congrats.
No, I really appreciate that.
[chuckles]
- I just...
- So, I've...
- No, you-you, you go ahead.
- And...
- I don't wanna You wanna go...
- No, please.
Okay, I'll go.
Um
I wasn't expecting
to meet someone so quickly
after I moved here and then
there you were.
And I can't help that I wanna
spend more time with you.
I can't help that I wanna be
more than just friends. I
And look, I know that you have doubts
about how serious I am about you
but what you heard the other night,
that's no reflection...
No, no, no, I I know.
The thing is, you were right
about me needing something to be wrong.
I'm just so used
to the worst case scenario being true
when it comes to men.
[sighs deeply] I was just trying
to get ahead of the heartbreak.
Hm.
And that wasn't fair for you.
I'm sorry.
Okay, I'm gonna say it
and I know you think it's too soon
but, Sienna, I know how I feel.
- Listen, I...
- I really like you.
You do?
That's what I was coming
to tell you that night.
That's what you were gonna say?
And I think that's why
I was reacting as strongly as I did.
I understand. I would've done
the same thing. I
Yeah.
So you feeling me?
- I am.
- Wow.
- Well, that's good.
- [chuckles]
That is good.
Because I
Am feeling you too.
[chuckling] Okay, okay.
- Say I'm old. Mm-hm.
- Yeah, mm-hm.
You know, I am so happy
that Noah made it back.
Aw, me too. They're so sweet together.
They are, mm-hm!
[Sienna clears throat] Miss Kimmy.
Mm, what's up?
Mr. Terry has entered the chat.
[giggles] Hey.
[both giggling]
Won't you give it up already?
Girl, he is hoping
for a Christmas miracle.
Hm! Looks like Lawrence already got his.
- [Lawrence] Okay.
- [chuckles]
- Hey.
- Hey, Mr. Napa. How you doing?
- I'm doing well. Thank you for asking.
- Hey.
- Is everything okay?
- Oh, it's better than okay.
Pics from the ball are trending
all over social media.
The amount of mentions
the company is getting
it's just, it's insane.
Traffic on the web page is just blowing up.
And the preorders
for the new wines are pouring in.
- [gasps]
- I know.
- Wow! Lawrence!
- I know.
Congratulations. Aw.
Wait, wait, you know what's really wild?
My dad calls me to apologize.
Like I'm still kind of in shock
about that.
It's like he's finally starting to get
a little more confidence in me.
- As he should.
- Mm-hm.
- We tryna dance a little bit?
- Yes. Key-key.
Get in here. Let me get in here.
Hey, there. Just hop with it.
- [Sienna giggling]
- Hop with it. Hop with it.
[all applauding]
And now, for our final honoree.
[sighing] It is my absolute pleasure
to give this award to Sienna Johnson,
owner of Divine Beauty.
[all applauding]
- Congratulations.
- Thank you so much.
Uh!
- Aw, thank you, Mom.
- You're welcome.
- I love you so much.
- [whispers] Congratulations.
Thank you.
Gosh, this is beautiful.
Um
Thanks to everyone who nominated me.
You know, I get to go to work every day
grateful for the opportunity to help
some of the most vulnerable people
in our community feel cared for and safe.
People the world too often forgets
who are worthy of being heard and seen.
But I can't do this alone.
So, to my incredible team
Miss Kimmy
Ella
Thank you so much for your support.
Kyle, booboo, my booboo
[Sienna giggles]
What would I do without you?
And [sighs]
I'd also like to thank
our co-sponsor
Lawrence as well.
Next year, I will be launching
my hair care line.
- Wow!
- Yes! Oh!
- Oh I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Sorry.
- [applause]
Thank you.
And that's thanks to you, Lawrence.
For reminding me why I created it
in the first place.
I will be making sure
that every shelter we visit
will be fully stocked
with products for the people they house.
I mean, who says
Christmas can't be all year round.
So, thanks to everyone. Thank you.
[applause, cheering]
[upbeat festive music plays]
[singer] Ha ha!
You know I love Christmastime!
[giggles] You do too.
Each year around this time
These streets begin to shine
The lights and candle glow
Put on the greatest show
All dressed in red and green
Don't mind the busy scene
Bundled from head to toe
I've learned to love the cold
When winter comes
It brings the most fun for us all
I just can't wait
To see those crystal snowflakes
Start to fall
It's Christmastime
And the magic is in the air
Oh, it's Christmastime
You can feel it everywhere
Oh, it feels so right
Around family and our friends
- Ooh, at Christmastime
- Christmastime
Hope this feeling never ever ends
I hear the sleigh bells ring
The choir begins to sing
Those old familiar songs
We all just sing along
Tall trees
- So, what do you think?
- Oh! This looks great.
It looks great.
I can't wait for my free sample.
Have I told you
how beautiful you look tonight?
Yes.
But it bears repeating.
Hm. Well, you look stunning.
Come here.
[Kyle whoops]
[all cheering]
[all laughing]
- It's Christmastime
- Christmastime
And the magic is in the air
Oh, it's Christmastime
You can feel it everywhere
- Ready?
- Hey.
- All right.
- [all] Merry Christmas!
Oh, at Christmastime
Hope this feeling never ever leaves
Oh
Oh
- Christmastime
- Christmastime
- And the magic is in the air
- Ooh yeah
It's Christmastime
You can feel it everywhere

- It feels so right
Around family and our friends
Oh oh
At Christmastime
Hope this feeling never ever leaves
- It's Christmastime
