All Alone Together (2025) Movie Script

(food squelching) (dreary music)
(silverware clinking)
(bottle clinking)
(water splashing)
(drink splashing)
[Television Actor] No!
No!
No!
(food bag rustling) (music continues)
(kibble clattering) (bottles clinking)
(foreboding music) (clock ticking)
(The Thing breathing rhythmically)
(alarm clock buzzing)
(buzzing stops)
(Tyler sighs)
(clothes rustling)
[Tyler] Fuck, shit.
(door slams)
(ceiling fan whirring)
(phone ringing)
[Fiona] Don't do that, Tim.
- Tyler.
- Don't turn it off.
It's broken.
[Fiona] And?
It's making that annoying noise.
Would you like me to ask it to stop?
I'm asking you nicely.
Oh, I know, I heard you,
and I'm politely replying, no.
You can't just do that.
One person doesn't just dictate a fan.
Exactly.
So, don't dictate.
It's not even doing its job.
That makes two of you.
(whirring continues)
(chair creaking)
(palms thudding)
Fiona, it's been a really tough week,
and I'm asking you to do me a favor.
My dog died a couple days ago.
How did he die?
It was a freak thing.
I was trying to...
It's really hard for me to talk about,
because it's been bringing
up a lot of things, and-
(music playing)
(phone ringing) (chair creaking)
(Fiona chuckling) (dark music)
You're pathetic.
I could give a fuck whether
or not you turn that fan off,
it really doesn't matter to me.
I mean, do you feel it?
Do you?
Exactly, it's doing nothing.
Just like you, you do nothing.
Just to know that I could
come in here every day,
basically say whatever I want,
and time after time, you listen, obedient,
just like a little dog.
Oh, sorry.
Was that too soon?
(Tyler gasping)
(monitor banging)
(box thuds) (fan whirring)
(clock ticking)
(objects thudding)
I'm sorry.
You're not.
I am.
Take this.
I'd rather just take the tape.
Not until you take the card.
I'm not reading your apology letter.
Please?
I just drove all the way here in the middle
of the night to give this to you.
I want you to have it.
(unsettling music)
(alcohol sloshing)
(bottle thudding)
[Television Actor] That wasn't really
an answer to my question.
Stop. No!
No, no, stop!
(indistinct)
No, stop!
No, just stop!
Stop! (TV shatters)
(pensive music)
(glass clinking) (suspenseful music)
(music builds)
(glass shattering)
(Tyler grunting)
(glasses shattering)
(Tyler panting)
(bottle rattles)
(glass shattering)
(foreboding music)
(electricity crackling)
(The Thing breathing rhythmically)
(Tyler panting) (music continues)
(air whooshing)
(fridge humming) (music fades)
(dramatic music)
(dog barks)
(Tyler gulping)
(fire whooshing) (fire crackling)
(dog barking)
(TV static crackling) (mysterious music)
(The Thing breathing rhythmically)
(music intensifies) (air whooshing)
(Tyler screaming) (foreboding music)
(Tyler gasping)
(Tyler grunting)
(music continues)
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm so, so sorry (sobbing).
I'm so sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm so...
I'm so sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
(door creaking) (soft mysterious music)
(door closes)
(music continues)
(door slams)
(Tyler breathing heavily)
(objects rustling)
(bed creaks)
(dramatic music) (The Thing grunting)
(Tyler gasping)
No, no, no, no!
Stop, no, no, no!
No, please, stop!
Fucking stop, stop!
Stop, stop!
Please stop!
Stop!
Please, stop!
Leave him alone!
Stop, stop!
Please, fucking stop, please!
(dog barking) (dark music)
No, no, please stop!
No (sobbing)!
Get away from me, please!
Please just leave!
Leave!
(dog barks) (Tyler exclaims)
(The Thing snarling)
(The Thing breathing rhythmically)
(Tyler screams)
(dramatic music) (flesh squelching)
(audience applauding)
(upbeat music)
You and me, always, forever
We'd stay alone together
You and me, always, forever
Say you'll stay, never be separate
You know I've got you in my pocket
You know don't just have to wait around
You know I'll keep you in my locket
Just come here and we could settle down
(music continues)
(shop bell rings)
You and me, always, forever
We can stay alone together
Heard you said things could be better
Darlin', don't get away right now
You know you've got me in your pocket
You don't just have to wait around
You know I'll keep you in my locket
(train whooshing drowns out singing)
You and me, always, forever
We can stay alone together
You and me, always, forever
We can stay alone together
(train bell chimes)
(train rumbling) (music fades)
(whistle blowing) (soft music)
(phone ringing) (phone vibrating)
Hello?
Yes, this is him.
(intriguing music)
I'm free tomorrow.
(music builds)
Okay.
(alarm clock beeping)
This is good.
This will be good.
I just need to jump in.
(water splashing)
This is what I need.
This is what I want.
I'm excited to experience something new,
something different.
I want this change.
I want to change.
I really wanna change.
Okay.
(Lincoln inhales)
(Lincoln exhales)
Hi, Lincoln?
[Lincoln] Hello.
Hi, it's Sloane, how are you?
Good. (Sloane chuckles)
Shall we?
All right.
(chuckles) This should work perfectly.
Thanks again for agreeing
to meet at my place.
It's no problem at all.
I was shopping.
Right.
I just have a lot of time,
thought I would knock
two birds with one stone.
Smart.
So, once again, like I was saying,
the film has a future, Lincoln.
I'm gonna help us reach it.
You did the work, now I show the art.
We actually started telling
people in the industry.
(Tyler yells) (glass shatters)
It's my job to generate
and manage (Tyler shrieks)
Your public feature, your film.
(Tyler yells) (Sloane's speech fades)
No!
(Tyler yelling)
Sound good?
Yes.
Okay, see you Wednesday.
(eerie intriguing music)
(apple crunching) (flies buzzing)
[Lincoln] Hey.
Hi.
[Lincoln] How was your day?
Honestly, it's been a shit show.
I'm one good week away
from getting that promotion,
but of course somebody's
mad at somebody else
because somebody else forgot something.
I'm just goin' a little
bit crazy right now.
I'm sorry, that sounds tiring.
Yeah, it's exhausting.
(keyboard keys clacking)
Oh, I'm sorry.
How was your day?
It was all right.
I was at that meeting.
[George] Oh, the meeting!
Sorry, yeah, that was today.
That should have been the first
thing I asked you when you came in.
- I'm sorry.
- You're fine.
- You're fine.
- How'd it go?
[Lincoln] It went okay.
She seems nice.
Okay, but is she gonna sell your film?
That's what she says.
Okay, but is that what she does?
You know, these are the kind of questions
you have to be asking yourself.
I think so.
She's also repping Jane Blackwell.
Oh.
(clock ticking)
That's wild.
That's big.
She actually had a meeting with Jane
after the meeting with me.
- That's awesome.
- Yeah.
You must be really important.
Thanks.
[George] This is a really big deal.
Yeah, and you have your birthday comin'
up on Saturday?
[Lincoln] Yeah.
What are we gonna do to celebrate?
Have you given it any thought?
Yes, I was thinking that we could-
[Regina] Hey.
[George] Oh, hey.
Hello.
What are you guys talkin' about?
Oh, just about Lincoln's birthday.
Mm hm.
Happy birthday.
[Lincoln] Oh, well, it's not today.
It's gonna gonna be on Saturday.
Oh.
Yeah, Lincoln had a
really big meeting today
with his brand new manager.
They're talking a lot about
the brand new film he's workin' on.
Mm.
Congratulations.
Sounds great for you.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Yeah, it's a pretty big deal.
I actually wanted to
talk to you about your film.
Okay, what do you want to talk about?
You know, just like the process.
Like, what was it like?
It went well.
What do you mean?
Are you asking about
post-production or writing or set?
[Regina] Oh, you were on the set?
I directed it.
And wrote it.
Wow.
You really like to control things.
Oh, Regina... Why'd you name
the bitch character in
your film after my mom?
I didn't.
Yes, you did.
The bad character did
not have your mom's name.
How can you say that to me
when he literally calls her Fiona?
I don't see Fiona as the bad character.
Lincoln (throat clears),
I have eyes.
I watched the thing.
I have ears.
I heard the thing.
I'm not stupid.
She sucks.
So does Tyler.
So, what?
Am I supposed to be less upset?
The character is not
named after your mom.
I looked up a list of random girl names.
Why would you think I would do that?
I don't know, 'cause it's her name.
I mean, what do you want me to say?
I'm sorry for assuming?
Why am I the one apologizing?
George, you remember
we were out here talking
about my parents when he walked in
to get one of his stupid frozen pizzas.
Yeah, but I don't
remember saying their names.
[Regina] I remember it.
I remember it vividly because you could
only remember my dad's name even though
we had lunch with them like a week before.
Okay, fine.
Well, now I'm gonna remember both,
all thanks to Lincoln.
(clock ticking)
(Regina scoffs)
- Regina, I'm sorry.
- I'll wait for you
- It was a joke.
- Whenever you're done
talking to him.
You're lucky I'm nice.
You know, I could say
something about your mother,
but I won't.
Sore subject.
She didn't mean it.
I'm sorry.
Ever since the screening,
it's been all she can talk about.
I don't know what I'm
gonna say to her anymore.
Tell her that her mom's name was perfect.
(clock ticking)
(eerie music)
(lights humming)
Boo!
(chuckles) You scared me.
Yeah, I know.
You are so easy to scare.
No, I think you're just really scary.
Good.
(chuckles) You
remembered Galaxior tonight.
Galaxyis.
[Lincoln] Galaxyis.
Eh, close enough.
So, what are you guys doin' tonight?
Well, we finally defeated the Ice King,
but we had to use this revive relic
that I didn't really wanna use,
but the Dungeon Master said
it was the only way we could keep playing.
It's understandable.
Yeah, it's whatever but I told everyone
that the first thing we're doing tomorrow
is going down to the Castle Dungeon.
It's gonna be just like your film.
What are you talking about?
Like, when Tyler goes into the basement.
How have you seen my film?
Lincoln, that is all you ever talk about.
So, me and the rest of the club decided
to go to the screening.
Oh.
I didn't see you.
Well, it was supposed to be a surprise.
I really wanted to surprise you.
You left so fast.
Yeah, I know.
Thanks for coming.
You guys did not have to come.
Yeah, I know, but we wanted to.
It was really cool.
Thanks.
So, what are you doin' now?
Uh...
Well, yeah, I've been writing a bit.
Yeah.
It's been a slow process,
but yeah, I've been writin' a bit.
I bet it's gonna be cool.
This one's gonna be even better.
Yeah, it's gonna be a good one.
I know. (Phone vibrates)
Oh, my mom's here.
See you tomorrow, Lincoln!
See you tomorrow.
(gentle music)
(stopwatch jingling)
(alarm beeping)
Okay, this is going well.
Mostly.
Change is going well.
I don't feel any different.
Am I supposed to?
How come you never feel yourself changing
until you've already changed?
I feel trapped, stuck in a loop.
That's why I need to change.
Maybe if I try hard enough,
I can completely get
rid of this part of me.
I want to get rid of this part of me.
Then I won't need to change anymore.
Then I can move on,
and I can be me.
(light instrumental music)
(music fades)
(crickets chirping)
(Lincoln exhales)
(keyboard keys clacking)
(bag zipping)
(keyboard keys clacking)
[Sloane] I'm happy this could work out.
- It's great to see you.
- Let's get started.
How are you doing, Lincoln?
[Sloane] Lincoln?
I'm sorry?
She asked how you were doing.
- Oh, great.
- Great.
Great.
First off, I just wanna say
how much we loved the film.
I mean, it was scary, sure,
but what it said about
this troubled broken man,
so delicate, and then
to just have the whole
thing ripped out from under
him at the end (chuckles).
- Definitely.
- What do you mean by that?
Tyler, in your film,
there's something about
him that just resonates
with you as an audience,
and then there's this thing haunting him.
And so in a way, it adds this layer
of mental health awareness.
It fits a nice niche.
We've been looking to add more projects
that open an active
discussion about mental illness.
Exactly, that's what I'm saying.
No, you're not.
You're giving your take.
I'd like to hear it.
No, of course, my take.
My take on what?
What was The Haunting to you?
Mental illness?
Yeah.
No.
I mean, yes, maybe part of it.
I'd have to sit down and
watch the film again, of course.
I felt that Fletcher did a great job
of portraying someone who is dealing
with the constant troublings.
Is that a word?
So, Tyler is troubled?
No, he's not troubled.
Then your opinion is what?
That the film speaks to
mental health awareness.
How?
He killed his dog, right?
- He deserved it.
- He never had a chance.
How'd you figure that out?
Okay.
It's probably-
I'm just saying, there's layers to it,
and this speaks to an important one.
That's all I'm saying.
It was a compliment.
Thank you.
It's always great when
everyone has an opinion.
So, we'd love to hear about
your ideas regarding next step-
What was The Haunting to you, Lincoln?
Revenge.
Huh, that's interesting.
Okay, but what's the reason for it?
This thing just shows up
to give him a taste of his own medicine?
[Lincoln's Subconscious]
They'll know the truth.
He's not sick.
Tyler could have done things differently.
He didn't, so The Haunting kills him.
We think it'd be a good idea
for Lincoln to do some interviews.
That's not-
Does that interest you, Lincoln?
Is it necessary?
I wouldn't say it's
necessary, but it would be good.
Seeing the face behind the mind
of the film is always beneficial,
especially (voice fades)- -
You did an incredible job.
They're gonna know you.
With everything that happened.
This is entirely up to you.
Of course it is.
That's why I was asking him.
That sounds great, thank you.
You don't have to, but it would be good.
We're just trying to offer you our help,
which is really the whole
purpose of this meeting.
I'll do it.
It's something new to me,
but I want the film to do well.
Wonderful.
I'm sure Ms. Anderson
could train you for that.
Yes, that's standard.
We'll deal with that after.
All right, perfect.
We'll have someone call
you today or tomorrow.
(Lincoln's subconscious
whispering indistinctly)
Once we make this public,
it'll be like a whole new world.
I hope you're ready for it, Lincoln.
(Lincoln's subconscious
whispering indistinctly)
Do you see the... I know this is scary,
but you seem like the kinda guy
who's just gonna come alive
once the cameras start rolling.
(eerie music)
So, numbers.
I assume we'll be around the range of five-
Do I have to be here for this part?
No, not really.
It's important, but if
you don't wanna be here,
I will handle it and I'll update you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
[Felicity] Great to
finally meet you, Lincoln.
It's nice meeting you.
[Lincoln's Subconscious]
Incredible film making.
You did an incredible job.
(brakes squealing)
Incredible film making.
You did an incredible job.
You did an incredible job.
Incredible job.
[Radio Host] Now you've
definitely got a long way
to go before you reach your destination.
Let me emphasize that.
A long way to go.
At this point, if I was you,
I might just stay at home.
Down the path we have multiple crashes,
just not a good day on
the old motor sport lane.
My heart goes out to all
families that (static crackling)...
(horn honking)
(train rumbling)
(phone vibrating)
Are you Lincoln Arreto?
Yes.
(laughs) My name is
Barron, Barron Holloway.
Nice to meet you.
I was at the festival.
Oh, that's great.
Yeah, yeah, I just wanted to say
what an incredible film.
Like, genuinely.
The cinematography of that
piece was so strong (laughs).
Thank you, I appreciate it.
I could tell the shots
(Lincoln's subconscious
whispering indistinctly)
That you got were very
specific, like purposeful.
(train rumbling)
(somber music) (traffic whizzing)
(line trilling)
Hello?
(traffic whooshing)
(line trilling) (teens chattering)
Hello?
Can you come pick me up?
Okay.
Okay, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
Thank you.
(music continues) (chattering continues)
(tires squealing)
(bottles clinking)
(door slams)
When I was your age,
we used to go to parties all the time.
You gotta have a little
fun your life, Lincoln.
(Lincoln gasps)
Hey, don't slam my fucking door!
Hey, I'm talkin' to you!
(fist thuds) (Lincoln groans)
(car alarm wailing) (somber music)
(Lincoln sobs)
[George] Why didn't you ride the train?
I missed it and there
wasn't one coming for awhile,
and I need to get back for work.
How'd you miss it?
I was distracted.
[George] What were you doing?
[Lincoln] Nothing.
I just had a really long day.
Got ya.
How was your day?
Pretty fuckin' good for once.
I finally got that promotion.
Congratulations.
Thanks.
So, I think we should talk
about how we're gonna move forward.
You know, I don't want to leave.
It's just, you know, remember
the only reason this works
is because they're gonna
move me closer to Regina
and I figured it was just
easier to move in with her.
So, and the commute is only gonna be-
Do we have to have this conversation?
Is now not a good time for you?
It's just a lot to think about.
Well, I'm not giving you something
to think about, Lincoln.
I'm telling you.
I'm telling you.
Okay.
[George] Is that all you're gonna say?
Congratulations.
(tires squealing)
Okay, can we just have
an honest conversation like adults?
I mean, like, I wanna hear your thoughts.
You want to know my thoughts on the thing
that I'm not supposed to think about?
Yes, I want to know
your honest, open opinion.
I (sighs)...
Why would I lie?
I don't know.
[Lincoln] When have I lied to you.
Tonight.
I was distracted, I said that.
I am not sure why that is implausible.
Okay, so you called me
at 7:15 p.m. to pick you up,
even though you could have
just waited for the next train.
I don't... I needed to get home.
I had work in an hour.
Lincoln.
(engine rumbling)
Thank you for picking me up.
Someone from the film
festival approached me
and something was just off.
It felt weird.
I wanted an out and my
first instinct was to call you.
Why didn't you just say that?
[Lincoln] I'm sorry.
No, it's fine.
I'm happy you called.
What'd he say?
He really liked my film and
he wanted my opinion on his.
Okay.
That doesn't sound too bad.
Yeah, I know.
I just, I made it worse than it was.
No, Lincoln, you're fine.
This kind of thing happens to everybody.
You have to trust me on that.
I'm sure whatever happened back there,
it's all in your head.
(unsettling music)
Yeah.
You didn't come by and say hi.
Yeah, I know.
I was gonna stop by as
soon as I finished up here.
Everyone else already left.
So, how was the-
How's the script going?
(chuckles) It's going.
It's not coming to me
as easy as the last one,
but I'm writing some stuff.
So, what's it about?
You know, I'm mostly outlining right now.
It's really boring stuff.
Yeah, but like, what's the story?
It's a surprise.
You can't surprise me.
Why not?
Because I know you.
Well, did you know I'm
going on TV tomorrow?
- What?
- Yeah.
To talk about the film.
But you won't even talk to me about it.
No, the old film, "A Company."
You're still talking about that?
- Yes, I have to.
- Why?
We have to promote it.
Why do we have to promote it?
Because we need it to do well.
It's important that my film does well.
I got that.
And it will.
It's doing so now.
I'm gonna be on TV tomorrow.
- You told me.
- Yes.
I told you.
I also told you that the next one
is gonna be a lot better, okay?
I've been dedicating a
lot of time to it recently
and I promise you, if you just,
if you gimme a couple days, I will...
I'll tell you the surprise.
(gentle music)
You're not alone.
You're not alone.
(alarm beeping)
(Lincoln groans)
(alarm stops)
[Lincoln] So, this is
what change looks like.
(object rustling)
This must be how it feels.
I'm making the right choice.
I must change now
- before it consumes me.
- Hello, everyone.
I dunno what this
is, - It's "Live @ Five."
- But I feel it all around me.
- I'm your host, Serenity.
I'm never alone, but
everything's gonna change today.
Hi, I've watched your,
or (throat clears)...
Hi, I'm Lincoln, I...
(Lincoln sighs)
(hands thudding)
(Lincoln exhales)
[Fletcher] I'm just saying,
they're extremely useful.
I really recommend getting one.
Yeah, I actually already have-
You know, look,
getting Stevens can completely change
the trajectory of my career.
If you're interested in Lincoln,
I'm always looking for smart
new clients like yourself.
Okay, I'll keep that in mind.
Let's keep our minds
on the film for right now.
How does that sound?
If you don't want media
gigs, Lincoln, just tell me.
We can make arrangements to-
No, no, this is great.
Really.
Oh, so you do have one.
How long have you had her?
He's had her for two weeks now.
And you're already going
to be on the big screen?
Nice job, little man.
Do we know how long this is gonna be?
It's a 15 minute segment.
Why do you ask?
I'm just trying to do my job.
[Sloane] Yes, we
can all see you're trying.
What's that?
My family.
Can I see it?
Yeah.
That's a cute dog.
Yeah, my parents got
him from me for my birthday.
It's the first and last dog we ever got.
Super cute.
Yeah.
So, what are we gonna be doing today?
Just answering a few questions.
It'll be fun.
We're generating some noise
around the film, you know?
What it's about, how it was
for you, that sort of thing.
Great, I really think that we-
I wanted to talk to you about that.
(radio chattering)
Okay.
What's up?
How was your experience playing Tyler?
(chuckles) It was awesome.
I mean, the people loved it, so-
I mean, how did you feel?
It was fun.
Yeah, getting to step in
someone else's shoes.
Were you ever scared?
No.
Never?
[Crew Member] Has anyone
given you your live mics?
[Sloane] No one has helped us yet.
Okay, who's going on?
Me.
[Crew Member] Loop this through here.
(exhales nervously) Me too.
Perfect.
You're on in 60.
Perfect, you're all set.
Head that way.
I'm gonna do exactly to
you what I just did to him.
So, I'm gonna put this in here.
Take this.
You're gonna do great today.
Okay, perfect.
Good luck.
35!
(radio chattering)
Hey, thanks for deciding
to show up, dumb ass.
You scared the shit out of us, come on.
This is Ms. Jones.
Nice to meet you, Lincoln.
Okay, come on.
Okay, we're just gonna set you right here.
- 218.
- Yeah.
[Crew Member] How's that look? Yeah?
It's a, pleased to finally meet you.
Let's save it for the take, shall we?
Switch on!
Okay, if you could just
stand right up for me.
Yep. Thank you.
We're just gonna switch
you guys right here.
- We move?
- Yes, get up.
Okay, come on.
Just gonna sit right here.
Come on.
Four, three, two.
(air whooshing) (dramatic theme music)
Hello, everyone.
It's "Live @ Five."
I'm your host, Serenity Jones.
Get your s'mores ready because tonight
we get an exclusive
dive into a scary story,
or should I say ghost story.
Here with me now is Fletcher
Rhodes and Lincoln Arreto.
Two minds who help create "A Company,"
one of the scariest
movies you'll see this year.
Gentlemen, how are we this evening?
Great, thank you.
How are you, Serenity?
[Serenity] Oh, wonderful.
Lincoln?
I feel good.
That's great to hear, boys.
So, the movie, a hit.
Probably the biggest one
you've ever been in, right, Fletcher?
Yeah, no, I mean,
this whole experience
has been really interesting.
Just everything.
Lincoln and I were just
talking before we came on
and filming it was this
fantastic and thrilling,
yet challenging experience.
Sort of indescribable, you know?
Well, you just used
three adjectives, so...
Sort of describable.
So Lincoln, you're the director-
Writer, and director, yes.
So, what does that make Fletcher here?
An actor.
So, how does it feel having one
of your pieces become such a great movie?
Good.
I feel good.
Yeah, we worked really hard.
We were a small crew that got things done.
- I bet.
- Yeah.
You're dealing with
some pretty crazy stuff.
Did it ever get too hard?
I don't... Yes, and no.
Look, I mean, there are
times on a horror set that were,
even the crew get a little
scared by what we do,
but you know, we're all professionals.
We like to have fun on set,
but at the end of the day, this is our job,
so have to treat it like that.
So, were there ever times
where it got too difficult on set?
No.
Wow, that's amazing.
You know, it really is.
You know, you both
so early in your careers.
I mean, there's have been
an amazing experience.
And then afterwards
having to deal with all this.
Deal with?
Serenity, are you kidding?
We live for this.
I mean, I think I speak for us both
when I say the aftermath
of this film is pretty nice.
So, towards the end of the movie-
- The film.
- What?
"A Company."
It's a film, not a movie.
(smirks) Is there really a difference?
You know, I don't think it actually-
Yes, there is.
And I made a film, so it's no problem.
It's no problem.
I just want you to call it the right thing.
My apologies.
So, Fletcher, in the
film, you were the lead,
which can be challenging.
You know, especially when the script relies
so heavily on just one
actor to carry out the plot.
Yes, definitely challenging.
But again, it's just a
role and it's just a story.
You know, for a role like this,
I think it's vital to
maintain a sense of focus.
I needed to be completely
immersed in the world
of the character for the correct portrayal
to be shown on screen.
And, you know, I have
Lincoln to thank for a lot of that.
I was very easily able to tap into my work
by looking to Lincoln for example.
I mean, you know, let's be honest,
Lincoln, didn't you put a lot
of yourself into my character?
No, I didn't.
So, then who was Tyler inspired after?
Every character does not have
to be directly inspired
by someone that is real.
Of course, and I only
asked because who Tyler was.
I assume you were partly
inspired by your parents.
How was I inspired by my parents?
(smirks) Well, come on, Lincoln.
My parents died in a car crash.
In which your father
was drunk at the wheel.
(pensive music)
(Lincoln scoffs)
Lincoln?
Excuse me? Lincoln?
(dramatic music)
Excuse me?
Lincoln, we need to just sit down
and I can explain what I was trying to say.
I'm sorry, Lincoln.
Lincoln!
I...
I can't be here.
(eerie music)
(voices whispering indistinctly)
You don't do that.
Lincoln?
I'm sorry.
You being sorry does nothing.
Apologizing and sitting there feeling sorry
for yourself does nothing.
It's not up to me to do something.
Were you listening?
Yes.
She shouldn't have
said that, but, oh, well.
It's her show.
You don't correct her on her show.
It doesn't end up very good, does it?
It doesn't.
It doesn't, does it?
You just (sighs)...
"LAF" films all the time.
They're not actually live at five.
They have a dozen other
segments they can use instead
of the one where the guest
makes the host look like an idiot (sighs).
(chair creaks)
Where did this come from?
Why can't you just be
the way you always are?
I haven't been feeling like myself for-
And what the fuck was
that movie/film bullshit?
I'm sorry, I'm just...
This was important for us.
Okay.
I shouldn't have blown up, okay?
We'll be fine.
Can we meet tomorrow?
I'd like to buy you a coffee
and we could just talk.
Is that something you'd be interested in?
- Okay.
- Yes?
Yes.
Perfect.
Do you know the coffee shop on 31st?
We can meet there around 12:30, 12?
Sounds good.
Great.
I'll see you at 12.
(soft music)
Take care of yourself, Lincoln.
(music continues)
(video playing) (keyboard keys clacking)
(object thuds) (eerie music)
(music continues)
(watch clatters) (music intensifies)
(Tyler screams) (laptop lid slams)
(exhales) You're okay.
(feet scurrying)
(Tyler screams)
(Lincoln groans)
(Lincoln gasping)
[Lincoln's Subconscious] It's a film.
This is real.
It's a film.
In your head.
I want to know your thoughts.
None of this happened.
(Lincoln gasping)
(waste disposal grinding)
(The Haunting breathing)
(door slams)
(Lincoln breathing heavily)
Oh.
Hey.
Hello.
You goin' to work?
Yes.
Where's your coverall?
I don't need it today.
Okay.
Well, this is me, so, I'm gonna...
You can go this way (chuckles).
Hey,
what if you skip work tonight?
I don't think I can do that.
Oh, come on.
It's just one night of work.
When's the last time you
and me did somethin' together?
Me and Regina, we're goin' to a party
and we'd love it if you came along?
Or, sorry, scratch that.
We could...
I could ask her for the night off.
We could have a boys' night.
I don't know, I just, I think
it would be really good.
Yeah, so do I.
I also think it would be good.
Unfortunately, I have a job.
I just thought it would be a fun idea.
It's a great idea.
One that I'll be thinking about for hours
as I clean up after 12 year olds.
(sullen music)
(water splashing)
(Lincoln sighs)
(eraser thuds)
(gentle music)
Thomas?
Hey, come in here.
Thomas?
Hello?
Are you okay?
I'm not sure.
What does that mean?
We'll see.
Please tell me you've written more.
No, I can't write.
[Thomas] Yes, you can.
You wrote "A Company."
Yeah, but not really.
I did.
You're very special, Lincoln.
No, I'm not.
I'm a scribe.
I wrote down what I experienced.
I took exact circumstances
and I put them on a page and...
And I made him suffer,
like he never had before.
Like he should have.
Him or someone else?
Why are you still here?
I'm always here.
Why are you?
I work here.
Do you?
Because it looks like you just walked
into a school in the middle of the night.
[Lincoln] I couldn't-
It's getting closer.
What?
Your haunting.
You're not doing a very good job.
If you can't change, it'll consume you.
No.
No.
I made The Haunting.
It's in my head.
I know what's real.
Do you?
Because you are ranting
to a 13-year-old at two in the morning.
Anyways, my mom's here to pick me up
from my after school
club that runs for six hours.
See ya.
No!
Hey, Thomas!
Stop!
Whoa!
Thomas!
(Thomas screams)
Stop!
Thomas?
Thomas, stop!
Thomas!
Thomas, wait!
(dramatic music)
Thomas!
Stop!
Leave me alone!
Why are you doing this to me?
Thomas.
(Thomas screams) (eerie music)
Thomas?
(pensive music) (heartbeat pounding)
(The Haunting wheezing) (Lincoln gasping)
(unsettling music)
(Lincoln's subconscious
whispering indistinctly)
[Lincoln's Subconscious ] Incredible job.
Incredible job.
(Lincoln's subconscious
whispering indistinctly)
We're right here.
You were right over here.
We're right over here.
We're right here.
Right here.
We're right here.
You're all alone.
(Lincoln's subconscious
whispering indistinctly)
(energetic music)
(suspenseful music)
(Lincoln screams)
(traffic whizzing)
(train rumbling)
(bright music playing) (cutlery clinking)
That was "Following"
by In My Mind on 90.-
Hi.
- Over here.
- Your home for jazz, baz,
and all things pizazz.
It's 12:03, and now your traffic.
We got a crash on the 110.
We're looking at a 20
minute delay when driving
- southbound today.
- How are you?
[Radio Host] You gonna respond?
Okay. You?
- I'm good. Yeah.
- Hey?
I'm really happy we're doing this.
[Radio Host] Lincoln?
Before we get into anything,
I just want to say I was sorry.
- I-5 and I-10 are looking
- I shouldn't have blown up
- smooth this morning.
- On you like that.
You're obviously new to this
Something this conversation
- and going through a lot.
- Certainly isn't.
I was just stressed -
We'll get on with more music
and I took it out on you, - after a word
- which is unfair.
- From our sponsor.
Thanks.
[Radio Host] That's
really all you're gonna say?
I shouldn't have said and did what I did.
[Radio Host] Obviously,
you schizophrenic freak.
- You stuck up for yourself.
- Clearly (indistinct).
- It's okay,
and truly not the end of the world.
- We've all seen it now.
- I promise I'll do better.
[Radio Host] Thomas
couldn't change either.
You saw what we did to him.
- Well, just wanted
to say that.
We'll do the same to you.
- Now that's outta the way,
You're letting us -
onto much better things.
[Radio Host] because you can't change.
I have a pretty big surprise.
[Radio Host] Don't worry.
We'll be here waiting for you - Think of it
- the whole time.
- As an apology present.
It's already been set up.
I've taken care of everything.
- We never left.
We're always here - Basically the idea
- with you forever.
- Is tomorrow,
You'll never - we're going to have
- be alone again.
- A second showing
of your film. (Lincoln vomits)
Oh, what the fuck?
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry, I...
I didn't mean to do that.
No shit.
What the fuck is wrong with you?
Are you okay?
I...
I need to leave.
Okay.
Yeah.
[Lincoln] Yeah.
I need to leave, too.
I'm sorry.
I...
I have to go home.
I just, I have to go.
(Lincoln sobbing) (somber music)
(Lincoln exhales)
I'm alone.
It's not real.
None of this is real.
None of this is real.
That didn't happen.
That did not happen.
That didn't happen.
(exhales) It's not real.
(keypad beeping)
Hey.
Hello.
(The Haunting groaning) (pensive music)
No.
Fine.
Fine.
It's not real (sobs).
It's not real.
It's not real.
It's not real (sobs)!
(objects crashing)
Leave me alone!
No, leave me alone!
Okay, okay.
Okay.
Now you hide?
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
You're not real.
It's not real.
(pensive music)
You're not real!
(Lincoln gasps)
(unsettling music)
(music continues)
(floorboards creaking)
(eerie music)
(Lincoln whimpers)
(phone vibrating)
(music fades)
(dramatic music)
(Lincoln gasps)
(clock ticking)
(door opens)
(Lincoln gasping)
What are you doing?
Are you okay?
Yes, yes.
I'm fine.
Where did you go?
Lunch.
Do you want some water?
Gina?
- I'm fine.
- Okay.
You sure you're okay, man?
(Regina sighs)
Why?
Why do you have to do that?
Am I not allowed to breathe?
Do you have to be like this?
We just had a really great lunch.
Nothing's wrong with you being here.
Yeah, obviously nothing's wrong.
I can't be here.
I just wanted (indistinct) today.
But mine was an eight minute
walk, which was really nice.
Yes, the walk.
(George chuckles)
(water splashing)
(pensive music)
(door closes) (music continues)
(music continues)
Oh, uh... Whoa, whoa!
- Get the fuck out!
- I'm sorry.
(Lincoln gasps) (dramatic music)
(head thuds) (music fades)
(monitor beeping)
You're finally awake.
You hit your head pretty hard.
How do you feel?
I'm okay, I think.
Good.
I'm sure you'll be okay.
Regina.
(sighs) We're really
happy you're okay, Lincoln.
Really.
I'm sorry.
She's,
Regina.
I'm really glad you're okay.
I was gettin' worried.
You're gonna be okay now.
They're gonna take good care of you.
I (sighs)...
I'll be right back.
[Regina] I still don't
understand why we need to wait.
[George] He's my roommate.
[Regina] And us
waiting here for five hours,
just for 15 seconds of conversation
- was so worth it!
- No,
it wasn't supposed be 15 seconds,
you were the one that walked out.
- He said he was fine.
- You saw him, Regina.
Does he look fine?
He's obviously not okay.
He needs someone here,
especially after the incident.
[Regina] And when has he
ever been there for you, hm?
Exactly.
He's the creepiest person.
You of all people should know that.
[George] Okay, but
something serious is going on.
You'd have to be a
fucking idiot not to see that.
[Regina] Oh, I'm the fucking idiot?
- Fuck you, George.
- Fuck me, really?
That's rich coming from you, Regina.
You don't get to say that
after fucking everything.
- Fuck you.
- No, fuck you.
[Lincoln's Mom] You don't get to say
that after doing that.
[Lincoln's Dad] He said he
needed me, so I helped him.
[Lincoln's Mom] You
are not helping anyone.
[Lincoln's Dad] Not helping?
You wouldn't survive without me!
[Lincoln's Mom] Oh my
God, we barely are now!
Look at you!
Look at yourself!
We cannot live like this!
[Lincoln's Dad] Fine, fine!
(indistinct)
[Lincoln's Mom] Just, wait!
Stop!
Would you just wait?
- Get the fuck off me!
- Stop it!
Stop it!
Can you just...
Can you just take a breath?
We both need to just fucking
- just breathe!
- No, no!
You said anything... Stop, stop!
I did not!
No, I did not, I did not!
(Lincoln's dad speaking indistinctly)
- Come here!
- Hey, no! Stop!
I'm stopping this right now!
No, no! What are you doing?
(door closes)
What the hell were you thinking?
Do you want your father to die?
Do you (wails)!
(door closes)
Get back here, now!
[Lincoln's Dad] No, I'm done-
[Lincoln's Mom] I am
not done talking to you.
I am not done.
Get fucking back here.
No!
What the fuck are you doing?
What the... No, I am not done!
No, I'm done talking.
I'm not... We are not done!
(both yelling indistinctly)
(door closes) (engine rumbling)
(gentle music)
(monitor beeping)
[Dr. Morton] How are you feeling?
I'm fine.
My head feels a little light.
[Dr. Morton] That's perfectly normal.
You took a bit of a tumble.
Yeah.
Who are you?
I'm Dr. Morton.
Can you move your head?
(Lincoln grunts)
Not too well.
Could you get yourself
up if you wanted to?
Maybe not right now, if that's okay.
That's perfectly okay.
Do you remember what happened, Mr. Arreto?
What do you mean?
Your head?
The reason why we're here?
You already said I fell.
Is that really why we're here?
(apple crunching)
What?
[Dr. Morton] How did you fall?
Didn't George tell you?
Who's George, Lincoln?
He's my friend.
He's here with me right now.
He took me here.
Oh, yes, yes, yes.
Was here with a girl
when they dropped you off.
Hm.
They left hours ago.
No they didn't.
They're here right now.
They're in the hallway.
Mm hm, I'm gonna need for you
to take some deep breaths, Mr. Arreto.
I want to talk to George, please.
And say what?
That you're fine?
Or were you planning some other combination
of a two word sentence?
Why should he talk to you?
What have you done for him?
And you have the audacity
to call yourself his friend.
You do realize that a friend
is someone who adds
value to a person's life.
Do you add value to anyone's life, Lincoln?
(tray slams)
(monitor beeping rapidly)
Silent, huh?
(scoffs) Just like always.
George.
George, I need you to come in here, George.
Come in here, please.
You're an unusual case, Lincoln.
And now is the perfect opportunity
- to figure you out.
- George?
George!
George!
[Dr. Morton] Shh.
(pensive music)
- George!
- We're gonna
- No, no!
- Make you normal again.
No, George!
No, stop, stop!
No, don't!
Stop, stop!
George!
No, stop, stop, stop!
George!
George, stop, please stop (sobs)!
George!
Lincoln, I'm not doing anything.
What's going on? Are you all right?
Did you just wake up?
I'm Dr. Azadeh.
I just stopped to check in.
- Where's Dr. Morton?
I don't think he's on call tonight.
I saw him check out around eight.
How does your head feel?
I'm fine.
My head is completely fine.
I'm not going to hurt
you. (Lincoln gasps)
I'm just checking your pupils.
I'd like to leave, please.
I'm not sure we can do that, Lincoln.
You hit your head pretty hard.
I'd like to keep you here for
another day or two at least.
No!
I want to leave.
You can't keep me here.
Well, yes, you are technically allowed
to leave against medical
advice at this point.
Great, thank you.
You'll need to sign a few papers.
You'll need a pen.
Are you able to grab one?
(monitor beeping)
(Lincoln breathing heavily)
(Lincoln straining)
Is that supposed to
convince me you're not hurt?
I'm not convincing you.
I'm telling you.
And I'm telling you,
we'd like you to stay.
Gimme the papers.
If you just lie down,
I can properly assess what's going on.
No!
I won't be doing that.
I'm so done with all of you.
I'm better now.
I'm leaving.
So give me the papers!
Calm down, Lincoln.
Give them to me!
Okay, okay.
Lincoln, giving you the papers.
(Lincoln breathing heavily)
Where's the exit?
(energetic music)
Lincoln!
Hey, hey!
(Lincoln groaning) (music continues)
(siren wailing faintly)
(traffic whizzing) (music continues)
Get away from me.
Get away from me.
Why do you keep looking at me?
Why you keep looking at me?
Why?
Why?
Why do you keep looking at me?
It's this hair.
It's my hair.
It's the hair.
It's the hair!
(shaver buzzing)
(shaver stops)
(shaver buzzing) (Lincoln gasping)
(sullen music) (Lincoln sobbing)
No, no, no!
(sobbing continues) (music continues)
(music continues)
(Lincoln laughing) (Lincoln sobbing)
(music continues) (Lincoln grunting)
(music fades)
(birds chirping)
Hello?
How are you?
Good.
[George] Good?
Well, aren't you gonna ask me how I am?
How are you?
Hm, I'm doin' great.
(static crackling) (pensive music)
Where are we goin' today?
What?
We're gonna go to the coffee shop
and fake some productivity,
or is today a stand at a
location until we get scared
and run away kinda day?
George, stop.
How 'bout a meeting?
Yeah, it would be nice to see Sloane
and pave over those road bumps (laughs).
Not too close, though.
Hm mm.
We might want to keep a safe
distance for awhile (laughs).
What is going on?
George?
George!
You weren't there.
Oh, Lincoln,
we're always there.
(dramatic music)
[Sloane] Hello?
Hello?
[Sloane] Why haven't you left?
What?
[Sloane] The meeting,
it's already started.
I didn't know there was a meeting today.
[Sloane] Then why did you just call me?
I...
What you're wearing is fine.
(Lincoln gasping) (music continues)
Let me help you.
You aren't real.
I'm normal.
You're more than that, Lincoln.
You're a sight to see.
No, no!
(dramatic music) (electricity crackling)
(Lincoln screams)
(Lincoln gasping)
(Lincoln whimpering)
(Lincoln sobbing)
(birds chirping) (gentle music)
I don't want change.
I'm still the same.
I don't need a change, I
just need to keep going.
This will always be a part of me.
I am not afraid anymore.
I am in control.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, stop!
What the fuck?
Lincoln, what did you do to your head?
What are you doing?
Why did you leave the hospital?
I asked you a question, George.
And I asked you too.
I feel fine.
Well, that didn't answer either of them.
George, you need to start
telling me what's going on.
No, no, you do.
I left you in the hospital
bed less than 24 hours ago,
and now you're standing in my kitchen,
and your head, it's fucking mutilated.
You're trying to distract me.
I don't know what you're talking about.
What are those things, George?
Your birthday present.
What?
(George smirks)
I was gonna bring
you a pie in the hospital,
and that's your gift.
Did you forget about your birthday?
No.
Lincoln, you have to
talk to me so I can help.
Give it to me.
How did you know that's
what the dog looked like?
Lincoln (sighs), no, I was a random-
I'm not the dog.
I don't know why you got this for me.
I'm not the dog anymore.
That's who I was.
I was supposed to be the monster.
I picked a random dog, okay?
I don't know what the
fuck you're talking about.
Lincoln, I don't know what
you see when you look at me,
but I know myself,
and I know that whatever you're thinking
about me right now is wrong.
You can't tell me what to think.
But you'll keep trying.
That's why you're still here, right?
I am still here.
I'm not gonna leave you alone.
(Lincoln scoffs)
I'm not goin' anywhere
until you get better.
I'm gonna help you, Lincoln.
I'm gonna help you get back to normal.
I am!
I am normal.
I've been trying so hard
to keep acting normal and...
And...
And I have.
I'm still normal.
I'm still me.
But you, you're not normal.
(dark music)
You keep following me
and making it impossible
for me to be normal because
I have to be normal with you.
Okay, Lincoln.
I'm gonna leave.
(phone vibrating) (music continues)
Hello?
Yes, this is him.
Yes, I am with him.
What?
Okay.
Who was that?
George?
The hospital.
No, Lincoln.
Lincoln, no, no, no!
[Lincoln] Get away, get away!
- No!
- Get away!
- No, Lincoln, what the fuck?
- Get away from me.
(Lincoln grunting)
(phone ringing)
Hello?
[Sloane] Hello, Lincoln.
Hello.
[Sloane] Where are you?
What?
[Sloane] It started 11 minutes ago.
Everyone is waiting
for you to start the film.
It's your premiere.
Are you coming?
Yes.
[Sloane] Great.
Thanks so much for
giving up a couple hours out
of your precious week to
make time for your own film.
I mean, this is ridiculous
at this point, Lincoln.
Do you ever think about your film anymore?
It's at the Landmark, the one on Rosalind.
I'll see you soon, right?
I'll see you soon?
Yes.
Okay. (Knife clatters)
We're starting now.
Come on.
I'm sorry about what I said on the phone.
I want you to read this after the premiere,
but before we talk.
I know you're going through stuff lately.
I need to do better, end of story.
But I also need you to-
I'm not taking your apology note.
Excuse me?
I don't want it.
Lincoln, this is not an apology note.
I wrote down some
things I need you to hear.
Then we can talk... No.
You're not real.
I'm alone.
I'm alone right now.
What are you fucking thinking?
No!
(Lincoln grunting)
(dynamic music)
(voices speaking indistinctly)
[Lincoln's Subconscious]
It's just in your head.
It's your film.
It's a film.
This is a film.
You're not a scribe.
I am a scribe.
It's not real.
How could this happen?
What is the reason?
You're real.
Are we?
It's in your head.
Do you add value to anyone's life, Lincoln?
Hi, Lincoln.
Just got off a call with your friend.
I can't believe you didn't invite him
to the big second premier.
I really shouldn't be
taking the credit, though.
- No!
- You did this
all to yourself.
Everyone else and I are
just there, following you.
Did you really think your haircut
would become invisible to us?
We'll still recognize you.
How could we not?
We're always together.
(pensive music)
(Lincoln gasping)
No, no, no (yells)!
Stop!
(Lincoln wailing)
(car crashing) (Lincoln sobs)
(car alarm blaring)
(horn honking) (anticipatory music)
(bottles clinking)
(siren wailing)
(Lincoln yelling indistinctly)
I don't want you to be here (sobs)!
I don't want you to be here!
(Lincoln gasping)
I don't want you to be here!
(Lincoln groaning)
I control if you're here.
I'm in control.
I'm in control (gasping).
(body thuds)
(music fades)
(keyboard keys clacking)
(gentle music)
You and me, always forever
We could stay alone together
You and me, always forever
Say you'll stay, never be separate
You and me, always forever
We could stay alone together
Hard to say, things could be better
Darlin', don't get away right now
You know you got me in your pocket
You know just how to wait around
You know I'll keep you in my pocket
Just come here and we can settle down
You and me, always forever
We could stay, alone together
You and me, always forever
Say you'll stay, never be separate
You know you've got me in your pocket
You don't just have to wait around
You know I'll keep you in my locket
Just come here and we can settle down
I waited so long to think of us apart
You know you've got me in your pocket
You don't just have to wait around
You know I'll keep you in my locket
Just come here and we could settle down
You and me
You and me
