Crave (2025) Movie Script
[Glass shattering]
[Piano music]
I'm so tired
Tired of playing these
games with my heart
Only hurts and tears me apart
Never wanna give
my soul away again
Hiding in the shadows
Protecting my inner peace
But this emptiness
inside it keeps calling
Hoping to find
something to fill it
And then there was you
I feel you, I know you
I taste you
I crave you
I love you
[Music continues]
[Music continues]
I feel you
I know you,
I taste you
I crave you
I crave you
Abigail.
Max?
Come here.
Oh my goodness.
How are you?
I'm good.
How are you?
I'm good.
You know, it's so weird.
I just had a dream
about you last night.
That is very weird.
That is really like.
Whoa!
Are you living in the city now?
Uh, no.
Eventually I will.
Yeah.
It's wild.
How's the family?
The kids must be grown.
Um.
What?
My husband actually died
about a year and a half ago.
Oh my God.
Come here.
Oh, thanks.
I'm sorry.
Thanks. It was pretty
horrific, honestly.
Yeah.
Illness.
Addiction, actually.
Jesus.
Yeah.
Sorry. I had a couple family
members die consecutively in a
few months.
Like the last couple of years?
Yeah. That's awful.
It's hard to come out
of the fog, I get it.
You still in real estate?
No. I left.
I decided it was time to get
back to my original dream.
Oh, yeah?
What's that?
Uh, writhing.
Really? What kind?
Screenplays.
Nice.
Yeah.
Exciting.
Yeah. I really, really love it.
And, uh, before the kids were
born, I actually sold some
scripts and, you know, needed
more money, more
consistently, so.
Yeah. Yeah.
Your husband was a lawyer, right?
Yeah. But the last ten years or
so of his life, he was working
less and less, and
somebody had to pick
up the pieces, so.
Yeah, I get that.
Are you still painting?
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah. I got a gallery coming
up in about two months.
Mhm. Yeah.
That's fantastic.
Yeah. Thanks.
I actually just got a new
spot down in Brooklyn too.
Yeah. I called your agency.
I was like asking where you
were at and they said you left.
You know, after that whole
nightmare, I just I just
switched it up.
I couldn't do it anymore.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah.
You should let me
make you dinner.
Yeah. What are you
doing tomorrow?
Um, nothing.
I'm totally free.
Great. I should tell you, I'm
really not that
pathetic, I promise.
No, not at all.
Here. Um, I.
Is your number still the same?
Oh, no, no, no.
Oh, give me your information.
All right.
Great.
How's, uh, five tomorrow?
Great. Yeah.
All right.
Awesome. Should
I bring anything?
Nah, just bring yourself.
I think I can handle that.
All right.
It's good seeing you.
Good seeing you, too.
I'll see you tomorrow.
Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow.
All right, bye.
Hey.
What did you think?
I, uh, I blew it off, actually.
I, uh, I just ended up walking
around the city instead.
Oh, I don't understand why you
don't want to get out of that
big, empty house.
It's not healthy.
No, I mean, look,
the kids, you know, both of
them just left within the last
week to go abroad.
I went from a full house to
just me, you know.
Just let it,
just take some time.
You need to move on.
You know, you've done the
grieving, played The Good Wife,
all of that.
It's just so much work
to move, you know?
I mean, there's so much junk I
have to go through
and packing and.
You know.
I think you have survivor
guilt or something.
I don't know about that.
Listen, we've both tried
to help my brother.
He just, you know,
didn't want to be saved.
You know, when we
first got together,
I realized he was older than me.
And he was probably going
to eventually go before me.
But I just, in a million years,
could have never imagined
how.
I think I'm still just
processing it, you know?
I don't want to do
anything too radical.
Having to hold yourself
back from from.
Everything is so boring.
Why would you choose that?
I mean, you hid under
a rock for ten years.
What do you want to do now?
I'm not holding myself back.
I got back into my writing, and
other than that, I just.
I just don't know
what I want to do.
You know?
We'll find that out in your
whole universe will open up.
Thanks.
I know what I want for you.
I want you to download one of
those hookup apps like Tinder
or something.
What? I'm not a slut.
No. I'm kidding.
You know me.
I'm practically a virgin,
and I'm in a relationship.
But you got to get out there
if you want to find a man.
Seriously? I don't
think I need a man.
Okay.
You're single.
Go do what chicks do who
are single in the city.
But do be careful.
Wow. I was never expecting you
to say anything
like any of this.
Get. Get out there.
Get your tits up your heart out
and go play and have some fun.
Yeah, I,
could get into a little fun.
Listen, I gotta go.
Okay. Thanks for the
pep talk, sweetie.
Okay. I love you.
Love you too.
Bye.
[Phone ringing]
Ah,
thanks.
Yep.
Kids, home?
Yep.
Good day.
Mhm.
Are you okay?
I just wish you wanted to
get better or something.
I know, I'm sorry.
I don't.
I'm so alone.
I know, and you shouldn't be.
If if this ever ends.
I don't want to be someone's
pretend wife or
girlfriend ever again.
Oh, what a pretty garden.
I love City Gardens, don't you?
It's so nice.
It smells like sunflowers.
And, uh.
Let's move to New Jersey
and have a garden.
[Upbeat music]
Some things make you think
Some things catch your eye
I've been up and down
Chase myself all around
I'm not really sure why
And I feel like
Going
Home
Feel like going home
I wonder what happens
when things change
Watch people grasping
for a point of view
Seen buildings come
up and down
And dreams go round
and round
Oh my goodness.
What have you got there?
Beautiful isn't it?
Wow. Do you think it came
off someone's outfit or.
Or maybe from some bird?
But what kind of bird?
Wow.
I'd say neither.
Really?
Mhm. So you don't know what it
means when you find a feather.
A guardian angel is watching
you because it looks like
you're about to go
through some big changes.
That's where they draw near.
- Wow. Oh.
- Good luck to you.
What's your name?
Oh, Freya.
Oh, nice to meet you.
I'm Abigail.
Nice to meet you.
Thank you.
Come in.
Hey.
Hey.
Glad you made it.
Do you mind taking
off your shoes?
Sure.
Dinner is almost done.
Oh, good.
- Hi.
- Hi.
Good to see you.
Good to see you.
You look gorgeous.
Oh. Thank you.
You're so sweet.
Yeah. How was
the trip over?
Mm. Typical Saturday travel.
Oh, God.
It's okay.
It's all good.
- Cool.
- Smells really good.
What are you cooking?
I'm hungry.
Oh, yeah?
What are you hungry for?
Yeah, I am all kinds of things.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
Well, I've got a lot.
Yeah, well.
It's a surprise.
No no no no no.
Can I do anything to help?
You being here is enough.
Actually, no.
Actually, I have
a bottle of wine.
You mind opening it?
Oh, I would love a
glass of wine, actually.
Me too.
Oh, okay.
- Yeah.
- Um.
I'll be in there
in just a second.
I just gotta finish this up.
Okay.
Yeah, it's a surprise.
Okay.
Shoo shoo shoo
shoo shoo shoo shoo.
I'll be in there
in just a second.
All right.
All right.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Mm. Mm.
That's really good.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
Really good.
Spain.
- Ooh.
- Yes.
Uh, I'm gonna plate the
food and I'll be right back.
Okay. Okay.
All right.
We're gonna feast.
And here we are.
Oh my goodness.
Wow.
Don't forget.
The napkin.
There you are.
There we are.
Oh.
You're so sweet.
Thanks. Cheers.
Thank you so much.
Of course.
I'm glad you're here.
Me too.
Wow.
Let's eat.
I'm probably gonna
eat this with my hand.
Yeah.
I would love that.
Oh, boy.
Oh!
My fingers are so greasy.
It's good though.
So where do you see
yourself in the next year?
The next year?
Yeah.
Gosh, I have no idea.
I don't know.
Yeah, neither do I.
I don't know why I asked
that question, I think.
Look, do you ever, like,
there's a lull in conversation,
you feel like there's a lull in
the conversation and you gotta
fill it with something,
and it's fucking generic.
That's what just happened.
Well, thank you for not
asking me about the weather.
Yeah.
You're like, with this
whole painting thing.
I don't know.
I'm always thinking
about the end, I guess.
You know, like, how long
is this going to last?
Mm. Right.
I mean, I didn't want to, like,
pry, but, I mean, I'm sure,
like, you dealt with stuff like
that with your
husband and stuff.
I mean, what about
relationships before?
What about?
Just. I don't know.
I mean.
I think I take everything
too freaking seriously.
Like a serial monogamist.
That's why I'm like,
yeah, I'm done.
Yeah.
I think I'm probably
the same way.
That's probably why I
like hermit away.
Mhm. Just like not you
know it's the same thing.
It's like.
Logical.
- Right.
- You know.
Yeah.
Like if you know you
do something stupid.
Time after time, it's hard
to get past shit, you know?
I see people do it easily.
They'll be like, oh, I
broke up with somebody.
Well, then they
didn't get it then.
Then they're just like, okay.
Yeah, but sometimes I can tell
that they're like, ignoring the
fact that they're in pain.
Does that make sense?
Mhm.
I don't know man I have a
have a good feeling about you.
- Me.
- Yeah.
Yeah I feel like you know
you've, you got a bright light.
You got a future ahead of you.
Like things are opening
up for you I can see it.
It's pretty rad.
Mm.
Yeah.
Mm.
So good.
Of course.
Does that clock actually work?
I don't think it does.
No.
We've been sitting here a
while, and I really haven't
seen the hands move much.
Yeah. It's, uh.
Yeah, we're in a time vortex.
And so,
yeah, time stands still.
Well, unfortunately, my train
time does not stand still.
And on Saturdays train
only once every two hours.
So I should probably
wrap this up.
- Yeah. Of course.
- And I really.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, maybe we could do
something again sometime.
Like, I would love that.
Coffee or, you
know, I don't know.
Well. Thank you.
This was amazing.
You were so sweet.
You're so funny.
Yeah.
I mean, it was so much
fun to eat with my hands.
Yeah.
Couldn't do that where I live.
Well, um.
Okay.
You're sweet.
And um, thanks.
Yeah.
I can walk through the door.
Hold on. Wait.
Um, I could get you.
I can get you an Uber if you,
if you want.
Oh, don't be silly.
You don't have to do anything.
No, no, it's no trouble at all.
No, really, I just, um,
you know, I think it's just
probably not a good
idea for me to be here.
Wait, did I.
Did I say something?
No, I just
I don't think I'm
ready, you know?
Yeah, totally.
Yeah. No, no.
I don't want anything.
Look.
I made dessert.
I mean, it's homemade.
Do you? We can
have dessert, and,
and then we can call it.
Okay.
Yeah.
- Yeah.
- Yeah. I'll stay.
Okay, great.
All right, uh, I'll
go get it ready.
I hope you are excited,
because this is,
the strawberry cheesecake.
Ooh. Yummy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Mhm.
Great.
Mhm.
- Mhm.
- Mhm.
Wow. Oh my goodness.
Wow. The strawberries.
Mm.
Good. Right.
Mhm.
Mhm.
You're really good.
This is like.
This is amazing.
Thank you. Thanks.
Um.
Do you like old music?
Mhm.
Wow. Um old music.
Yeah.
Um I don't know how old.
Just wait.
[Soft music playing]
May I have this dance, milady?
Yes. You may.
Mm.
Mm. It's really good.
I can still taste it.
Quite the chef.
- Thanks.
- Yeah.
I try.
Mm.
You do, don't you?
Yeah.
You look really
beautiful tonight.
Oh. Thank you.
You're welcome.
So do you.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- Nice.
- Yeah.
No one's ever called
me beautiful before.
Really?
Yeah.
Why?
I don't know.
I think men can be beautiful.
Me, too.
That felt nice.
Mm.
I'm glad.
Thanks.
Mm.
You are so sweet.
I'm not the best dancer.
Yeah.
Amazing.
What?
Are you okay?
- Yeah.
- Yeah?
Yeah. Yeah.
Do you want to go for a walk?
A walk?
Yeah. The sun's setting.
Oh.
We should catch it.
- Sure.
- Yeah?
Okay. Yeah.
Why not?
All right, come on.
Where are you going to take me?
I'm not telling you.
You should tell me.
No.
What if I'm not allowed to go?
What if I don't know
where we're going?
Oh, wow.
Wow. I love your spontaneity.
Yeah.
Thanks. Some people
call it A.D.D..
Really?
Yeah, but I don't judge you.
Yeah, well, you shouldn't.
I think it's pretty
wonderful quality to have.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Nice.
Keeps me on my toes.
You're welcome.
A lot of people are boring.
- I don't know.
- Oh my God.
Adventures and don't
know how to live.
You certainly certainly
know a lot of things
to keep it interesting.
[Laughter]
I try.
Oh you achieve.
You succeed.
Well,
you know, I used to live in the
next neighborhood down Cobble
Hill before we moved to Jersey.
Did I know you then?
Um,
no, actually.
Yeah, I love it.
I mean, you want to
hear something crazy?
Yeah.
I almost didn't take the spot.
Really?
Yeah. I got a residency.
What's that?
So they put me up in the
apartment, and they pay me a
ton of money to paint, and then
they put me in a few galleries.
That's amazing.
It's pretty wild.
I just, it's kind of hard to
believe the hype, you know?
How long is this
going to last, really?
I mean, I go to these
galleries and I see these.
I see toilet seats on the wall
itself for like a
quarter of $1 million.
[Laughter]
Well,
do you paint on toilet seats?
No.
And it sounds like you've got
nothing to worry about, right?
Hey.
Wait a second.
You were supposed to show
me your art, remember?
- Yeah. No. What?
- Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Uh-Uh!
Quiet. Quiet.
Oh, wait. What's that?
Oh, we gotta go.
We dated in college.
Now she's got, you know,
a husband and kids.
I do.
Two tangerines, frozen mango,
two scoops of vegan vanilla
protein and a splash
of lemon juice.
It tastes exactly
like a creamsicle.
Damn.
Wow. Look at how many
lights there are.
- I know.
- It's crazy, isn't it?
Like most of those, especially
because it's Wall Street.
It's all work.
All work? No play.
Wow.
Lawyers, accountants.
Probably shredding
papers right now.
[Laughter]
Most likely.
You miss the city?
Oh, I miss it so much.
I, I really want to move back.
You should.
Yeah.
I don't know.
You know, sometimes.
I mean, you got
millions of people.
And,
yet somehow I still feel lonely.
- Really.
- Sometimes.
Sometimes.
I feel like people are,
craving connection.
Craving.
Something.
Yeah.
- But.
- What do you crave?
Me?
Yeah.
Mm.
Lots of things.
- Really?
- Yeah.
Like what?
I don't know if I
should tell you yet.
Okay. So there's a yet.
So that means there's a
possibility that
you will tell me.
Yeah.
Okay.
We gotta go.
What?
Oh, no.
No.
- Again?
- Yeah.
This is so cool.
You've never done
this before, have you?
No.
Oh.
You okay?
- Kidding.
- Oh.
Kiss it make it feel better.
Oh, God.
Wait, wait.
Oh. I should probably make
sure I get that train.
I think the last one's
like a one or something.
Yeah. Of course.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm gonna go to
the bathroom first.
Okay. Okay.
I can walk you to the train.
I think I might,
get a lift later.
Yeah.
Okay.
But
I need you to show me.
Now.
Mhm.
Yeah. Ready?
These are incredible.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Thank you.
I can see so much.
Like what?
You.
Pain. Chaos.
They're just paintings.
What happened to you?
What?
They're just paintings.
You don't have to hide from me.
You're staying right?
Oh, yeah.
[Soft music]
Princess bed.
Stop! I knew it.
Don't.
Don't!
This is what they gave me.
And I didn't want
to take it down.
Because you like it.
Cause I'm a fucking princess.
Yes you are.
Hey
You don't know
where you're going
Set your mind on a
one way trip
Where the wind is blowing
Secrets that you keep
Are keeping you down
You think you might drown
That's no way of living
Let me be the light
To things you've never seen
Let me be the light
Let me be the light
Let me be the light
Let me be the light
To your darkest thought
Let me take your
deepest fear
Hold them to my heart
Hey
You don't know
where you're going
Hey.
Hey!
You okay?
Yeah.
Can't sleep?
No.
Do you, um.
No.
Absolutely not.
I really like you being here.
Really?
Nice.
Me, too.
I'm gonna find.
[Soft music]
You
You keep me high
I'm on the edge tonight
I think I'll fly
This dream
I can't describe
It's like I'm lost in time
You're by my side
All I wanna do is run, run,
baby, with the top down
Hold hands, you drive
We're getting high tonight
I'm gonna fly tonight
All I wanna do is run
Right, baby, with the
top down
Hold hands, you drive
We're getting high tonight
I'm gonna fly
Stars collide
Such a cold embrace
Yet we survive
All I wanna do is
run, run, baby
With the top down
Hold hands, you drive
We're getting high tonight
I wanna fly
Hey.
Hello.
So I got this little note.
Oh, my God, what is this?
I don't know.
Who would have wrote
something so ridiculous?
Um. I made something light,
so that way we could eat this.
And then you can tell me what
you like, and then
I can make it.
I can tell you what I like.
Yeah, you can tell
me what you like.
Do you like apples and yogurt?
Mmm.
Yeah.
Not bad, right?
Really good.
Oh, it's so good.
Mm.
Mmm.
Mhm.
Mhm. Mhm.
Mhm. Mhm.
Mhm.
I love apples.
[Laughter]
Good morning.
Good morning.
You love feeding
people don't you.
I love feeding you.
- Really.
- Yes.
Mm.
So what would you like
for breakfast?
What do I want for breakfast?
Mhm.
[Indistinct]
We should probably
be real people.
What does that mean?
You know.
Go be in the world.
- In the world?
- Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Can I use your shower?
Of course.
- Okay.
- Okay.
- Okay. Okay.
- Okay. Okay.
Hey.
[Indistinct]
Thout we'd go get some lunch?
Are you hungry?
Come on.
Oh. Come on.
We'll go get some food.
[Indistinct whispering]
I'll go put on my dress.
[Indistinct]
I made all 12 of them necklaces.
Later we go to try to make out,
like where the lions
are or something.
That's.
That's why it's
called the ravine.
Um, have you been to
the castle in central?
A long time ago.
Yeah.
Come on.
We gotta go to the castle.
Overlooks Prospect
Park on oceans.
Like your art, I suppose.
Absolutely.
Oh. Do tell.
Yeah.
Yes. They were really?
Absolutely.
Wow. You're silly.
I don't believe you.
One day.
One day, I will own a castle.
Not this one, though.
No, but I'll have a dungeon.
Oh.
Mhm.
And.
I'll take you there.
Will you?
Absolutely.
What?
We should go back to mine.
I should go home.
Oh.
Sorry.
You slayed the dragon.
Oh, I need different clothes.
I get it, I get it.
- You know.
- Yeah.
I'll come back tomorrow.
All right.
Yeah. Wanna play?
Absolutely. Yeah.
I mean, I got nothing
except for painting.
Goodbye, Castle.
All right, I gotta go.
You let me know about tomorrow?
Absolutely.
All right.
This was fun, thanks.
Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow.
Yeah.
Get home safe.
[Soft music]
And you give yourself away
With all the words
and the things you say
Everywhere they
needed you to be
Everyone's favorite
thing to see
Be mine tonight
If only for a while
And in the morning they
can hear you better
Just be mine tonight
And you break against
the way
There's nothing more
to give some day
And I'm not asking
for your sympathy
I'm just asking you
to stay with me
And be mine tonight
If only for a while
And in the morning
they can hear me, baby
Just be mine tonight
Just be mine tonight
Tonight
Ab?
Ab?
Hey.
I got your cigarettes.
If you eat your muffin, I'll
give you the cigarettes.
No.
I'm not.
I'll have the cigarette and
then I'll eat the muffin.
Can't.
Can you?
Can you just hold on to it?
Maybe. And have it later.
Yeah.
Promise? I'll wrap it up.
Okay.
Yeah. Wrap it up.
Promise you'll eat it later?
You need to decide what
you want to do, Ab.
You know?
What do you mean?
Yeah, you know what
I'm talking about.
Like.
It's not going to go
on forever like this.
It's your turn.
Oh. Come on.
You've waited long, and
you know what I mean.
You have to decide
what you want to do.
This this this isn't.
This can't go on.
Okay.
Come in.
Hey.
Hello.
I told you I'd come back.
Right.
It's good to see you.
Do you want tea or anything?
No.
Okay. I'm just finishing this.
How was your night?
I don't know. Just a night.
Nothing special.
Yeah.
Yeah, I got some writing done.
That's great.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You?
Yeah. Painted.
Yeah. Yeah.
Always painting.
Do creators creating?
Yes.
You ready to do this?
I'm so ready.
I always have the best ideas.
Come on, let's go.
Cool.
Yay!
So you.
You've never been here
or you have been here.
I've been to the beach, but
I haven't been to the ride.
When's the last time
you've been here?
Hey, what's your name?
When's the last time
you've been here?
Come on Red!
Five years ago.
How are you doing
with that loser?
I got money.
He doesn't have money.
I could fucking kill you, man.
Fucking chump.
Just leave it. Leave it.
It's nothing.
Just let it go.
- Let it go.
- Hang on a second.
What?
What? Huh?
Huh? What?
Kill me!
Kill me!
Go home and sober up, you
fucking piece of shit!
Come on.
What did you do?
Max.
Max. Max!
Max! What's going on?
What's going on with you?
What do you mean?
I mean, what happened
with that guy?
It was crazy.
And now you're walking
ahead of me, ignoring me.
And, I mean, what happened?
I didn't do anything wrong.
No you didn't.
The guy was drunk, Abby.
He told me he was gonna kill me.
He's probably just, you know,
out of his mind for the moment.
I know you went through
a lot with your husband.
Okay. But it is a different
scenario when you're here.
You have to set boundaries.
I'm sorry.
I'm not trying to yell at you,
but I'm just saying, like, it's
not safe out here.
You don't know these people.
I just wanted to protect you.
Look. Can we.
I'm sorry.
Can we?
Can we let go of that energy
and go into the park
and have a good time?
Yeah.
Let's go ride some rides.
Away.
It sounds like it's
actually made out of cans.
Whatever you need.
I'm not getting on that thing.
So when was this thing built?
Um, 17.
Right when the
Revolutionary War ended.
Yeah. Thank you.
Oh man. We're really high up.
We're gonna go.
I think we're gonna go again.
No, no no, no.
I know it, I can feel it.
I can feel it.
- Hey, Abby. Abby.
- It's gonna slip any second.
- I got you.
- What, what, what.
- I got you. You're safe.
- Really?
- Okay.
- Yeah.
Hey, look at me. Look at me.
You're safe.
I promise.
You promise?
You have control
over this thing.
Yeah. See you later.
Oh my God.
Ooh! Let's do spook-o-rama.
Ooh, that looks good.
You want to go scary?
[Screaming]
[Laughter]
Hey,
I'm just hanging out
with my buddy here.
You ready to get
your ass whooped?
Oh! You stop!
Hey, y'all.
Wow. You got great muscles.
Yeah, you look great.
Oh, thank you.
[Indistinct]
Oh, you teach fitness?
Yeah. Teach fitness.
Really? Where do you teach?
I'm teaching fifth and Queens.
Calcium jeopardy!
Oh, how fun. I would.
Oh, maybe I could come by.
Yeah come by, right.
You gotta get.
Yeah. We're ready.
There's, like, some
puppy right here.
Oh, yeah.
Congratulations.
Oh.
Before we lose our shirt.
Oh.
Thanks, man.
Thank you for the puppy.
- Yeah.
- I like to be on film.
Oh, yay!
Oh, he's so cute.
But why did we leave?
We were winning.
We could have won
something even bigger.
Oh, you got.
Those games are rigged, man.
You gotta leave before
you lose your shirt.
You know what I mean?
You weren't gonna lose anything.
I'm. I'm a good shot.
- Yeah.
- Right?
You saw that?
I saw that.
We should do bumper cars.
Where's my gas?
Yeah.
[Laughter]
Kiss.
Yes.
It's so fun.
It's like, who am I right now?
I just don't even know.
Who am I?
Who am I?
It was all about
dreaming
And everything I'm
seeing all fades away
I can't believe you won this.
Oh come on.
It's from my mad
target skills, Max.
Your mad flirting skills.
- What?
- You heard me.
What do you mean?
What are you talking about?
You were flirting with the dude.
I'm sure that the
prizes are not this big.
I wasn't flirting with him.
I wasn't flirting with him.
What are you talking about?
Yes you were.
How can you say that?
That's crazy.
Because it's true.
You complimented him on his
muscles and told him you were
gonna go work out with him.
I was being nice, Max.
The poor guy is, like, back
there all day, you know,
running games.
There was nobody there.
Even, like, how
boring, you know.
Is this, like.
A problem?
Is this a thing?
What?
No no no no no.
I was.
I'm joking, I'm
joking, I was joking.
I'm joking. Yes.
I'm joking.
Sorry.
Pug life.
You won this fair and square.
From your mad shooting skills.
This is true.
Wanna go cuddle?
You want to be a little pug?
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
Let's go.
Tickle your belly.
What?
Just us being friends
for so long and.
Yeah.
That happened.
Thanks for inviting
me for dinner.
Of course.
Little did I know.
Yeah, I mean, I knew.
Sorry. I mean, look, I
was gonna force anything.
I just.
Yeah well you didn't have to.
I've always had a crush on you.
Seriously?
Yes.
And I know that you've been
going through a tough time, and
I felt I was, I was torn.
It was like, do I or don't I?
I'm just glad that
it happened now.
Yeah me too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Better late than never, right?
Yeah.
Definitely.
Less baggage.
Yeah.
Yeah. For sure.
So how did you get into art?
How'd you get into painting?
So when I got into
high school, I, uh,
So you know, you can sign
up for whatever you want.
And I signed up for art not
because I wanted to, but
because I thought it
would be fucking easy.
And, um.
And my teacher,
he kept trying to teach us form.
I mean, he didn't try.
He did.
[Indistinct]
I think I was trying to piss
him off, you know, because I
was like, I don't
want to do this.
I thought this was going
to be fucking easy.
And he started embracing
my weird.
And one day he kept me up after
class and he was like, you
know, you're you're
talented, right?
And that was the first time
that anybody had
ever told me that.
And he's like, but you
need to learn form.
And he said something. He said.
Talent without hard work
is a tragedy.
And so the next day.
I started learning form
and I started loving art.
Yeah.
What about you?
What started with writing?
Crazy shit.
As a kid.
Um,
I would see things in the world
that I really didn't like.
And I knew I didn't have the
power to change anything.
Yeah. So I would make up
stories in my head about an
alternate reality
of the way it went.
Right. And I.
Wrote my first full length
play in third grade.
Kind of crazy, but
don't you think?
Everybody that does
art is kind of crazy?
No, we have to be
a little crazy.
I've never really known
how to fit into society.
Yeah.
[Laughter]
Goofball.
I'm coming with you.
So how many women have you
actually brought back to your
little den setup?
My den?
Yeah.
Let's see.
None.
I'm dead serious.
None. Well, first of all,
it's a new space, right?
I've been here two months.
Yeah.
I just.
I don't know.
I've been,
working. I mean, working.
Um. Yeah, but I
just think that, uh,
I don't know.
I'm a hippie, I guess.
I believe in energy and things.
So I just want to
make sure that,
you know, the energy's
nice in here when I'm
doing my work.
Mhm.
Ahhh!
[Laughter]
You're gonna fall off the bed.
It's worth it.
Uh uh.
[Laughter]
Ah! Oh!
Oh.
[Laughter]
Still what I'm working on?
Wait. You know what
you have to do?
Okay, what can I show you?
Yeah.
Stop.
- What the fuck is that?
- It's a sock.
Oh, nice.
Okay. That's true.
I just got to go around.
Oh.
Really?
Okay, get to work.
Get to work.
I'm working, I'm working.
Piece of paper that
has nothing on it.
Well, that did it for sure.
That thing knows.
Oh, oh.
Wow. You are amazing.
Oh.
Oh.
I have a question, and you
don't have to answer it if you
don't want to, because I
know it's a very personal.
Why? Why did you stay?
In, um, 2008.
I did an intervention,
and, um, he was so angry
because he felt
that I outed him.
And he said to me at that
point, um, he refused to ever
sleep in the same
bed as me ever again.
And he also would never
let me get a divorce.
So at that point, I kind
of realized I was kind of
basically in jail.
Yeah.
And so I
figured out how many years I
had to serve out my sentence.
And then I just dove in to
making money, taking
care of the kids,
trying to pretend I was a
suburban mom,
but I've never been that really.
[Indistinct]
How are the kids now?
They're okay.
Getting better.
But.
There were a couple times I
would, um, get in touch with a
divorce lawyer or
that kind of thing.
And, um, they would
all say the same thing.
That the fact that he was
trying to kill himself from
alcoholism showed that he had a
disease, a disease, a disorder.
And if I try to leave him, I
would be forced to support him
the rest of my life.
Yeah.
Yeah. But then there's the
other part where, you know, he
had saved me from
a bad situation, and,
I was just kind of trying
to return the favor.
You know, I wanted to save him.
Yeah.
And I even said to him so many
times, you know, we don't have
to do this.
You're more than welcome to
go and be with somebody else.
You know, find your way.
Go be alone.
Move wherever you want.
I won't.
I would never expect
anything from him.
It was so crazy, though,
that night when it happened.
After they took the body
away and the cops left.
I was standing in the
kitchen with my kid.
And I couldn't cry.
And, um,
it was like this deep part of
me, this animal, part of me
just said, I don't know who
I am without this problem.
My whole life has
been built around it.
And
in that moment, I knew, like
all my co-dependants, was gone.
All the things that I had tried
for so many years to
try to fix myself.
And in one moment I was done,
and I felt so guilty
that I was actually
going to be okay.
What are you doing
with your fingers?
Oh.
This
will bring me back to the
energy of everything
that I'm feeling.
So that when you know,
I want to feel the way I do
right now, all I
have to do is this.
Nice.
Yeah. So I always
have this moment.
I remember when we first met
You were wearing
that summer dress
Told me everything
you liked best
And we danced all night
Don't remember
just what we said
You were calling
me Billy the Kid
Don't know how many shots
we did, but it sure was fun
Wake up, wake up
I'm so glad we
went to the museum.
That was so wonderful to be
back there as a grown up.
Yeah.
You know.
When's the last time you went?
About ten years ago, I think,
with one of my kids in their
field trip.
Oh, wow.
But it was a bunch of kids, so,
you know, they want to, like,
keep it moving and everything.
Yeah. You can't
read and kind of,
- Yeah.
- Really dive in and.
Yeah, really absorb
it, you know?
Yeah.
No. That was.
Logical.
Yeah.
And what did wipe
out the dinosaurs?
That's the real question.
I don't even know.
What do you think?
I don't know.
I've got different theories.
I mean, there's the things
we're told about a meteor.
- Then there's the things that.
- Makes sense.
Pangaea.
Yeah.
You know.
Aliens wanted to, like, have
their own hybrids take over,
and so they wipe them
out with the great flood.
Or there's the idea that
the Great Flood is actually
something from, you know,
the Bible and God did it.
Yeah.
I mean, I see you wear a
cross, but do you actually.
Um.
Yeah.
Really?
Yeah. I mean,
I don't know when the last
time I went to church was.
I don't think you need
church to believe in God.
No, I just think sometimes I
miss out on the
community aspect.
Do you believe?
Oh, completely.
Nice.
My whole life I'd been married
about three years, and the
alcoholism was really bad.
And I was trying to
get through to him.
And, you know, it was like,
okay, if you don't want to fix
yourself for you or for me or
for the kids, then you know,
what about this amazing
opportunity of life and this
body that God gave you?
I mean, why would you just
shun that and and mistreat it?
This gift.
And he said, I don't
believe in God.
And I had the craziest reaction
because I thought, whoa, how
like how how did
I not know this?
Crap. That's that
explains everything.
Yeah.
And it was something
that I made a note of.
I thought, you know, okay, it's
clearly an important thing for
me that people that I'm
close to believe in some way.
I mean, I'm not into
organized religion either.
I've never been.
I don't think it's necessary.
God's everywhere.
It's, you know, the sky, the
earth, the air, the light.
Yeah.
You know, it's inside our cells.
I mean, everywhere be something
that was missing in
this other person.
Made everything else
kind of logical.
Yeah.
And then I spent the rest of
the time that we were together
just, um, trying to
prove that it's real.
And.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
But you can't convince people.
No. I mean, all we
can do is just, uh,
show off our light.
Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
I like your light.
Thanks. I like your light, too.
Want to go get some food?
That's always your answer
to everything.
I know.
It's either food or a
different adventure.
Yeah. Let's go eat.
I think it's Taco
Tuesday, isn't it?
Holy shit, it is Taco Tuesday.
Let's do this.
Just chop it up.
Well.
What?
Why did you put water
in your drink?
So it makes it smell better.
Why?
It's blasphamy.
How dare you do that to
a bartenders drink.
It's better now, taste it.
Now you won't get fucked up.
That's. Yeah, that's.
That's true.
Just put water to drink.
It'll be fine.
Well, they always say you
should have water when you're
drinking, right?
Exactly.
So that's what I do.
So,
I know this is crazy, right?
Yeah.
Yeah,
[Indistinct]
Yeah. Well, if I had
checkers, we could play.
I've never played chess.
It is a fun game.
Really?
Mhm.
Cool. Do you have like what?
No no no I'm good.
It's just.
It's fine, it's fine.
If, um.
I mean, do you want
to tell me something?
What do you mean?
You been getting, like, all
kinds of texts and calls, and
you never take them in front of
me, and I'm just like, there's
something this guy's hiding.
Because kind of, you
know, that makes me think.
No, I understand that.
I don't care.
- No.
- It's like.
Yeah.
I mean, this isn't like
anything, really, right?
- Abby.
- I mean, this isn't anything.
- It's the
- Honestly.
Huh?
It's the gallery.
Oh, okay.
The gallery is texting me
because they want
to see my progress.
That's it.
Oh.
Yeah.
I.
I have sent them
pictures, so they're fine.
But you really haven't been
doing it, have you?
Yeah.
I haven't really seen you
doing anything.
- I mean.
- I'm painting.
Well you're hanging out with me.
I'm doing a lot.
Oh, that's awful. That's so awful.
No, that's.
I'm happy.
Me too.
But,
I mean, actually, you know,
it would be smart,
probably to just kind of.
- What?
- Take a breath.
And, you know,
I'm probably still fucked
up, so I should probably.
You know, I've got
things I need to do.
I've got things I should take
care of, and I haven't been
taking care of them.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, if you got to do that,
I mean, I should probably be
painting as well.
I mean, look, why don't we take.
You're right, you're right.
Why don't we take a few days?
A few days?
Yeah.
I was going to just,
like, go tonight, but.
That's what I'm saying.
You.
Oh, I leave now.
Yes, I leave now.
Okay. All right, all
right, all right.
Sounds good.
Yeah.
Abby.
You don't have to leave now.
[Soft music]
[Music continues]
[Music continues]
[Music continues]
Hey.
Oh. Oh my God.
I just couldn't stay away.
I missed you so bad.
Take me. I'm yours.
Yeah, get rid of that.
Get rid of that.
Here, take this off me.
Get this off me.
What?
Nothing.
What? Come on. What?
I like this.
Me too.
And I never had a art studio
in my apartment before.
Really?
Yeah. I've always had to
go out for work.
I don't know if it's a
good thing or a bad thing.
Why?
Easily distracted.
Yeah. Normally I
don't let anyone in
until the work's done.
Mm.
I'm running out of ideas
with what I'm doing.
Oh, yeah.
Mhm.
Maybe me.
Time for a break.
I think you might.
Be right, Sam.
What do you think?
Are we up for that?
Yeah. Yeah.
[Soft music]
[Music continues]
Oh. Feels good.
Oh.
Okay.
Good.
Yes.
Oh. Oh.
I'm so glad I went
and had brunch.
That was so good.
Yeah, that's a good idea.
The tea sucked though, right?
It did?
Yeah. You're right.
That's why we're doing this.
Hold on.
All right.
I've got,
English tea time.
Or green tea?
Green.
Alright. Perfect.
Are you gonna answer that?
I guess I could, yeah.
Hey, Jason.
Hey. How you doing?
No. I'm good.
I'm just hanging out
with my friend Max.
Yeah.
Seriously? Oh, my God,
that sounds incredible.
Yeah, I would love to.
Um, how about, uh,
tomorrow, like, six?
Does that sound good?
Um, yes.
Wow, I can't wait.
Yeah, that'll be
great to see you, too.
Ah. Thanks, love.
All right. I'll talk
to you later.
See you tomorrow, bye.
Wow.
Nice. You got a date?
That's fun.
What? A date?
Yeah. Tomorrow.
You said it.
That's. That's my friend.
We used to work
together in real estate.
Cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
What?
What?
Nothing. I mean, you call me
your friend and we have sex,
and you call him your friend.
So I'm assuming you fuck
your friends, right?
What the hell?
He's showing me an
apartment tomorrow.
Sure.
Max, what is your problem?
I don't have a problem.
Max! What the fuck?
I don't know, you tell me.
What are you doing?
What are you fucking doing?
I'm not doing anything.
I asked you a question
about a date, that's all.
It's not a date.
He's showing me an apartment.
Okay. He's showing
you an apartment.
Great.
It's fine.
You know what?
Actually.
This is really
fucked up, you know?
Yeah, it kind of is.
Yeah.
How? What are you
even accusing me of?
Fucking your friends.
I don't fuck my friends.
I'm your friend.
You fucking me?
My God, it's like fucking
word salad with you.
What the fuck?
It's crazy.
No.
I mean, what, you're gonna
accuse me of flirting with him?
Is that what you're
gonna accuse me of?
I don't.
Yes, you are flirting with him.
You flirt with everybody.
Everybody. We don't go anywhere
in order for me to flirt.
Oh, I wonder why we
don't go anywhere.
Because you always want to
just fuck in the sex den.
You never wanna fucking go out.
Oh, my God, you are
fucking crazy, aren't you?
You are crazy.
I'm not doing this.
I'm done, I'm done.
I'm seriously fucking done.
I'm not.
- Okay.
- This is ridiculous.
Fine.
Fuck it. You know what?
Abby, just wait.
We're gonna have a disagreement.
A disagreement?
This is more than
a disagreement.
And I gave.
I gave so many chances
to people in the past.
I'm not doing that anymore.
Look where that got me.
Look where it got them.
Yeah, well, I misspoke.
I'm sorry.
You misspoke.
I'm going home.
Abby, just wait a second.
No.
Just wait.
Abigail, please, will you stop?
Stop what?
Stop. Just stop.
No, don't.
No! You can't tell me
what to do anymore.
You can't.
I'm not.
I'm not telling you anything.
I'm just asking you to fucking
have a conversation with me.
I tried to have a
conversation with you.
And you wouldn't do it.
Well, I'm here now.
Let's talk.
Talk about what?
What is it to talk about?
I don't know, you're upset, so
let's fucking talk about it.
You're jealous of nothing.
Okay.
No reason.
No fucking.
There was no reason
to be jealous.
What are you talking about?
You were flirting with him.
I was not flirting with him.
I was with you.
Okay. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
No, but you do this.
And with that whole thing about,
like, this being a
sex den, is that
all this is for you?
No, that that was rude.
And I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I put up with shit from my
husband for years, and I didn't
want to.
I held my voice in.
I didn't say anything.
I'm never doing that again.
I'm not your fucking husband.
Okay, okay.
We can talk.
You know what?
We can have a conversation
about this.
Please.
What is there to talk about?
I'm sorry.
Don't you ever do that to me.
Don't you ever do that to me.
All this shit.
You can't put the genie
back in the bottle.
You can't unsee or unhear the
shit that happened
today, I can't.
And I God, why didn't I
see it before it was there?
I just didn't see it.
Why? I mean, two months into
this and you are
showing me this.
It's not going to get better.
I know it's not going to get
better because things
don't get better.
They get worse.
All right.
If that's how you.
If that's how you feel.
That's how you feel.
You know we're adults.
We can.
We can talk about this.
This is a relationship.
You have to work through things.
You know what I mean?
You have to work.
I shouldn't be so much work.
Okay. All right.
I'm sorry.
Can we just.
Can we just take
a few days and then.
I gotta go.
Abby.
I haven't figured out
That master plan
Can be so hard
Just to be a man
My father left me
When I was young
Got 20 years
But I wasn't done
And someday I'll rejoice
When I get to hear
Your loving voice
Someday we will smile
And I'll hold you for a while
I haven't figured out
That master plan
We say goodbye
To every mom and dad
We get to love them up
And then we lay them down
Only get so many days
With them around
And someday I'll rejoice
When I get to hear
Your loving voice
Someday we will smile
Cause I know
I'm gonna hold you
for a while
And I just want you to know
Please leave a message.
I don't want you to go
Hey. It's me.
Call me back if you want.
[Tense music]
You fucked up again, didn't you?
Huh?
Always a fuck up.
You and your little
brother both.
What the fuck is that?
You're wearing a fucking
cross around your neck.
You think God's gonna save you?
Huh?
Huh?
You're a piece of shit
just like me.
Never forget that.
[Crying]
Oh. Fuck.
[Birds chirping]
[Birds chirping]
[Soft music]
[Soft music continues]
[Phone ringing]
Hello?
Hey.
How are you?
Not good.
But I'm still going to go to
the yoga retreat in Mexico.
Joe's coming with me.
I just won't be able
to do much yoga.
Mhm.
Uh, a lot of cute guys
come to these things.
Might be nice for you.
Uh, I'm off the guy thing
for a bit, actually.
What happened to
the painter guy?
Yeah. Done.
Jealousy issues.
And I honestly didn't have it
in me to wait around to see if
it might be something else.
You know, I played
that game before.
That doesn't sound very fair.
You put up with my brother for
years, and now suddenly you
can't give a second chance.
What?
You heard me.
Oh, come on, you don't
know the whole story.
Oh! Shut up.
It hasn't been long
enough for a whole story.
It was two months.
Oh, yeah.
Okay. All right. So.
All right. Maybe.
How'd you leave it?
I just left.
Did he call or anything?
Yeah, he did, but I.
I didn't pick up.
When did you see him last?
A couple of weeks ago.
You just radio silenced him.
Um.
Yeah.
So you're just gonna
leave little messes
all around now.
I guess.
Look, I need to get back
into my life anyway.
You know, it was fun, but I.
You know, the kids are gonna be
back from school, and the And
holidays are coming.
And
are you home?
No. I, um, I was in the city
for a bit, just walking around.
I wanted to be
around people, and
I just, uh,
on my way to the supermarket
to pick up some things.
Might make a salad, but I'm
going to go back to Manhattan
tomorrow, and we're supposed to
get a heat wave, which should
be really nice.
Well, that sounds encouraging.
Is Mexico hot this time of year?
Yeah.
A little heat never hurt anyone.
Call me anytime.
And if I don't hear from you,
I'll just call you
when I get back.
All right, well, have a safe
flight and enjoy your vacation.
Okay, I will.
Okay, bye.
Oh, my goodness.
[Soft music]
[Birds chirping]
Oh, you, need to let go,
of what you've ever
thought before.
When one does that, all is well.
Every time.
Every time.
Of course, we could sit
and chat about it, but
now all you need to
do is go within.
The answers are there.
Every time.
Always.
And truly just align
with your heart.
There's no way.
There's no way.
What?
Hey.
Oh my God.
That's crazy.
You're stalking me?
No, you are stalking me.
No, you're stalking me.
This is my favorite park.
I don't know what you're doing.
You live in Brooklyn.
Touche.
All right.
How have you been?
I'm okay.
How are you?
I'm. I'm great.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
How's, uh.
How's painting?
It's good.
I mean, I'm just getting
ready for the gallery.
It's coming up.
- Nice, nice. Good.
- Yeah.
How's the writing?
It's good.
That's good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um.
I mean, I tried I tried to call
you, uh, a few weeks back, and
I figured you didn't
want to talk, so.
No. I'm sorry.
That's okay.
Hey. It's okay.
I let it, I let it go.
I get it, I do.
So it's good.
Uh, do you want to go
somewhere and and just talk?
Um.
Come on.
While in the biggest city in
the world, we just run into
each other twice.
It's just
it's like crazy.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy, right?
Just for a little bit.
Yeah, sure.
Come on.
Yeah.
- Yeah.
- All right.
I've been thinking a lot.
Yeah. Me too.
I think maybe
neither of us was ready.
Yeah. Maybe.
I just.
I also don't want to let
go of what,
we started.
Things happen.
Maybe after.
Everything. Maybe I
can take you out again.
[Indistinct]
For so many years, my
husband would do this crap.
So, and,
every time he would promise
it's over not again, I promise,
not again.
I'm gonna stop.
And every single time.
Go back to that.
Every time.
And when he left I just,
swore I would never.
I'd never get into
anything like that again.
You know.
I know, I really know.
I've been going to therapy.
Really?
Yeah.
Yeah.
They ask you this little
questionnaire at the beginning?
I didn't realize how
much I had buried.
My mom died when I was
really young.
My dad was an alcoholic.
He was really abusive.
He'd come home and
beat her within an
inch of her life.
This one time, he
came home plastered,
and, uh, she had to
go to the hospital.
And she died two days later.
My god, I'm so sorry.
It's okay.
My dad got thrown in jail,
and me and my brother went to
foster care.
But they wouldn't keep
us together, you know?
No one wants two boys.
I write him?
I would write him.
And then one day, he
just stopped writing me.
You know, the.
Um.
[Children playing]
I mean, things started to pan
out, like I got adopted when I
was in high school
by this older couple.
They were amazing.
But then they passed too.
They passed,
two months of each other.
She passed.
And then he passed right after.
He missed her.
I don't know how to
be around people.
I think that's why I paint.
That's why I'm so secluded.
And, uh,
I think that's why
I'm overprotective.
Just when I find something that
I love, I don't
want it to go away.
Max.
Max.
Max.
I'm sorry.
Don't apologize.
Please.
I know that we're.
I know we're broken.
So broken.
I'm sorry.
No. It's okay.
I just think that.
I think we should at least,
try.
Yeah, maybe.
I want to show you
my new paintings.
Okay. When?
Now. Can I show you now?
I'd love to see them now.
Are you all right?
Yeah.
Let's go.
Come on.
Max.
These are.
What?
They're so different.
Yeah.
They're so vast and
calm.
It's like the universe.
Yeah.
I love them.
Really?
Yeah.
I'm so happy for you.
Thank you.
I mean, I feel like.
They're actually reflecting
what's inside of you now.
It's a reflection of
how I feel about you.
I missed you.
I should probably go.
Yeah. Yeah.
Of course.
Thank you.
For what?
Telling me everything.
Yeah, I mean,
took took a minute.
Uh.
Yeah.
I'm a work in progress.
Abigail.
I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry.
We can do this.
Yeah.
- Let's just try again.
- Okay.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
What?
I'm just smiling at you.
Some secrets we keep
Some secrets we share
Sometimes we act like
there's just nothing there
The mysteries of life
Mysteries of death
Questions of why
we're even here
Drawing breath
There's no secret
how I feel about you
No secret how I
feel about you
Some things must change
Some things are just strange
Some things aren't
anything at all
The way that you look
The way that you feel
Sometimes
you're the only
thing that's real
No secret how I feel
about you
No secret how I feel
about you
Don't tell me what's wrong
Show me what's right
I know, I just need to
be with you tonight
No secret how I feel
about you
No secret how I feel
about you
No secret how I feel
about you
No secret how I feel
about you
[Piano music]
I'm so tired
Tired of playing these
games with my heart
Only hurts and tears me apart
Never wanna give
my soul away again
Hiding in the shadows
Protecting my inner peace
But this emptiness
inside it keeps calling
Hoping to find
something to fill it
And then there was you
I feel you, I know you
I taste you
I crave you
I love you
[Music continues]
[Music continues]
I feel you
I know you,
I taste you
I crave you
I crave you
Abigail.
Max?
Come here.
Oh my goodness.
How are you?
I'm good.
How are you?
I'm good.
You know, it's so weird.
I just had a dream
about you last night.
That is very weird.
That is really like.
Whoa!
Are you living in the city now?
Uh, no.
Eventually I will.
Yeah.
It's wild.
How's the family?
The kids must be grown.
Um.
What?
My husband actually died
about a year and a half ago.
Oh my God.
Come here.
Oh, thanks.
I'm sorry.
Thanks. It was pretty
horrific, honestly.
Yeah.
Illness.
Addiction, actually.
Jesus.
Yeah.
Sorry. I had a couple family
members die consecutively in a
few months.
Like the last couple of years?
Yeah. That's awful.
It's hard to come out
of the fog, I get it.
You still in real estate?
No. I left.
I decided it was time to get
back to my original dream.
Oh, yeah?
What's that?
Uh, writhing.
Really? What kind?
Screenplays.
Nice.
Yeah.
Exciting.
Yeah. I really, really love it.
And, uh, before the kids were
born, I actually sold some
scripts and, you know, needed
more money, more
consistently, so.
Yeah. Yeah.
Your husband was a lawyer, right?
Yeah. But the last ten years or
so of his life, he was working
less and less, and
somebody had to pick
up the pieces, so.
Yeah, I get that.
Are you still painting?
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah. I got a gallery coming
up in about two months.
Mhm. Yeah.
That's fantastic.
Yeah. Thanks.
I actually just got a new
spot down in Brooklyn too.
Yeah. I called your agency.
I was like asking where you
were at and they said you left.
You know, after that whole
nightmare, I just I just
switched it up.
I couldn't do it anymore.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah.
You should let me
make you dinner.
Yeah. What are you
doing tomorrow?
Um, nothing.
I'm totally free.
Great. I should tell you, I'm
really not that
pathetic, I promise.
No, not at all.
Here. Um, I.
Is your number still the same?
Oh, no, no, no.
Oh, give me your information.
All right.
Great.
How's, uh, five tomorrow?
Great. Yeah.
All right.
Awesome. Should
I bring anything?
Nah, just bring yourself.
I think I can handle that.
All right.
It's good seeing you.
Good seeing you, too.
I'll see you tomorrow.
Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow.
All right, bye.
Hey.
What did you think?
I, uh, I blew it off, actually.
I, uh, I just ended up walking
around the city instead.
Oh, I don't understand why you
don't want to get out of that
big, empty house.
It's not healthy.
No, I mean, look,
the kids, you know, both of
them just left within the last
week to go abroad.
I went from a full house to
just me, you know.
Just let it,
just take some time.
You need to move on.
You know, you've done the
grieving, played The Good Wife,
all of that.
It's just so much work
to move, you know?
I mean, there's so much junk I
have to go through
and packing and.
You know.
I think you have survivor
guilt or something.
I don't know about that.
Listen, we've both tried
to help my brother.
He just, you know,
didn't want to be saved.
You know, when we
first got together,
I realized he was older than me.
And he was probably going
to eventually go before me.
But I just, in a million years,
could have never imagined
how.
I think I'm still just
processing it, you know?
I don't want to do
anything too radical.
Having to hold yourself
back from from.
Everything is so boring.
Why would you choose that?
I mean, you hid under
a rock for ten years.
What do you want to do now?
I'm not holding myself back.
I got back into my writing, and
other than that, I just.
I just don't know
what I want to do.
You know?
We'll find that out in your
whole universe will open up.
Thanks.
I know what I want for you.
I want you to download one of
those hookup apps like Tinder
or something.
What? I'm not a slut.
No. I'm kidding.
You know me.
I'm practically a virgin,
and I'm in a relationship.
But you got to get out there
if you want to find a man.
Seriously? I don't
think I need a man.
Okay.
You're single.
Go do what chicks do who
are single in the city.
But do be careful.
Wow. I was never expecting you
to say anything
like any of this.
Get. Get out there.
Get your tits up your heart out
and go play and have some fun.
Yeah, I,
could get into a little fun.
Listen, I gotta go.
Okay. Thanks for the
pep talk, sweetie.
Okay. I love you.
Love you too.
Bye.
[Phone ringing]
Ah,
thanks.
Yep.
Kids, home?
Yep.
Good day.
Mhm.
Are you okay?
I just wish you wanted to
get better or something.
I know, I'm sorry.
I don't.
I'm so alone.
I know, and you shouldn't be.
If if this ever ends.
I don't want to be someone's
pretend wife or
girlfriend ever again.
Oh, what a pretty garden.
I love City Gardens, don't you?
It's so nice.
It smells like sunflowers.
And, uh.
Let's move to New Jersey
and have a garden.
[Upbeat music]
Some things make you think
Some things catch your eye
I've been up and down
Chase myself all around
I'm not really sure why
And I feel like
Going
Home
Feel like going home
I wonder what happens
when things change
Watch people grasping
for a point of view
Seen buildings come
up and down
And dreams go round
and round
Oh my goodness.
What have you got there?
Beautiful isn't it?
Wow. Do you think it came
off someone's outfit or.
Or maybe from some bird?
But what kind of bird?
Wow.
I'd say neither.
Really?
Mhm. So you don't know what it
means when you find a feather.
A guardian angel is watching
you because it looks like
you're about to go
through some big changes.
That's where they draw near.
- Wow. Oh.
- Good luck to you.
What's your name?
Oh, Freya.
Oh, nice to meet you.
I'm Abigail.
Nice to meet you.
Thank you.
Come in.
Hey.
Hey.
Glad you made it.
Do you mind taking
off your shoes?
Sure.
Dinner is almost done.
Oh, good.
- Hi.
- Hi.
Good to see you.
Good to see you.
You look gorgeous.
Oh. Thank you.
You're so sweet.
Yeah. How was
the trip over?
Mm. Typical Saturday travel.
Oh, God.
It's okay.
It's all good.
- Cool.
- Smells really good.
What are you cooking?
I'm hungry.
Oh, yeah?
What are you hungry for?
Yeah, I am all kinds of things.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
Well, I've got a lot.
Yeah, well.
It's a surprise.
No no no no no.
Can I do anything to help?
You being here is enough.
Actually, no.
Actually, I have
a bottle of wine.
You mind opening it?
Oh, I would love a
glass of wine, actually.
Me too.
Oh, okay.
- Yeah.
- Um.
I'll be in there
in just a second.
I just gotta finish this up.
Okay.
Yeah, it's a surprise.
Okay.
Shoo shoo shoo
shoo shoo shoo shoo.
I'll be in there
in just a second.
All right.
All right.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Mm. Mm.
That's really good.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
Really good.
Spain.
- Ooh.
- Yes.
Uh, I'm gonna plate the
food and I'll be right back.
Okay. Okay.
All right.
We're gonna feast.
And here we are.
Oh my goodness.
Wow.
Don't forget.
The napkin.
There you are.
There we are.
Oh.
You're so sweet.
Thanks. Cheers.
Thank you so much.
Of course.
I'm glad you're here.
Me too.
Wow.
Let's eat.
I'm probably gonna
eat this with my hand.
Yeah.
I would love that.
Oh, boy.
Oh!
My fingers are so greasy.
It's good though.
So where do you see
yourself in the next year?
The next year?
Yeah.
Gosh, I have no idea.
I don't know.
Yeah, neither do I.
I don't know why I asked
that question, I think.
Look, do you ever, like,
there's a lull in conversation,
you feel like there's a lull in
the conversation and you gotta
fill it with something,
and it's fucking generic.
That's what just happened.
Well, thank you for not
asking me about the weather.
Yeah.
You're like, with this
whole painting thing.
I don't know.
I'm always thinking
about the end, I guess.
You know, like, how long
is this going to last?
Mm. Right.
I mean, I didn't want to, like,
pry, but, I mean, I'm sure,
like, you dealt with stuff like
that with your
husband and stuff.
I mean, what about
relationships before?
What about?
Just. I don't know.
I mean.
I think I take everything
too freaking seriously.
Like a serial monogamist.
That's why I'm like,
yeah, I'm done.
Yeah.
I think I'm probably
the same way.
That's probably why I
like hermit away.
Mhm. Just like not you
know it's the same thing.
It's like.
Logical.
- Right.
- You know.
Yeah.
Like if you know you
do something stupid.
Time after time, it's hard
to get past shit, you know?
I see people do it easily.
They'll be like, oh, I
broke up with somebody.
Well, then they
didn't get it then.
Then they're just like, okay.
Yeah, but sometimes I can tell
that they're like, ignoring the
fact that they're in pain.
Does that make sense?
Mhm.
I don't know man I have a
have a good feeling about you.
- Me.
- Yeah.
Yeah I feel like you know
you've, you got a bright light.
You got a future ahead of you.
Like things are opening
up for you I can see it.
It's pretty rad.
Mm.
Yeah.
Mm.
So good.
Of course.
Does that clock actually work?
I don't think it does.
No.
We've been sitting here a
while, and I really haven't
seen the hands move much.
Yeah. It's, uh.
Yeah, we're in a time vortex.
And so,
yeah, time stands still.
Well, unfortunately, my train
time does not stand still.
And on Saturdays train
only once every two hours.
So I should probably
wrap this up.
- Yeah. Of course.
- And I really.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, maybe we could do
something again sometime.
Like, I would love that.
Coffee or, you
know, I don't know.
Well. Thank you.
This was amazing.
You were so sweet.
You're so funny.
Yeah.
I mean, it was so much
fun to eat with my hands.
Yeah.
Couldn't do that where I live.
Well, um.
Okay.
You're sweet.
And um, thanks.
Yeah.
I can walk through the door.
Hold on. Wait.
Um, I could get you.
I can get you an Uber if you,
if you want.
Oh, don't be silly.
You don't have to do anything.
No, no, it's no trouble at all.
No, really, I just, um,
you know, I think it's just
probably not a good
idea for me to be here.
Wait, did I.
Did I say something?
No, I just
I don't think I'm
ready, you know?
Yeah, totally.
Yeah. No, no.
I don't want anything.
Look.
I made dessert.
I mean, it's homemade.
Do you? We can
have dessert, and,
and then we can call it.
Okay.
Yeah.
- Yeah.
- Yeah. I'll stay.
Okay, great.
All right, uh, I'll
go get it ready.
I hope you are excited,
because this is,
the strawberry cheesecake.
Ooh. Yummy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Mhm.
Great.
Mhm.
- Mhm.
- Mhm.
Wow. Oh my goodness.
Wow. The strawberries.
Mm.
Good. Right.
Mhm.
Mhm.
You're really good.
This is like.
This is amazing.
Thank you. Thanks.
Um.
Do you like old music?
Mhm.
Wow. Um old music.
Yeah.
Um I don't know how old.
Just wait.
[Soft music playing]
May I have this dance, milady?
Yes. You may.
Mm.
Mm. It's really good.
I can still taste it.
Quite the chef.
- Thanks.
- Yeah.
I try.
Mm.
You do, don't you?
Yeah.
You look really
beautiful tonight.
Oh. Thank you.
You're welcome.
So do you.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- Nice.
- Yeah.
No one's ever called
me beautiful before.
Really?
Yeah.
Why?
I don't know.
I think men can be beautiful.
Me, too.
That felt nice.
Mm.
I'm glad.
Thanks.
Mm.
You are so sweet.
I'm not the best dancer.
Yeah.
Amazing.
What?
Are you okay?
- Yeah.
- Yeah?
Yeah. Yeah.
Do you want to go for a walk?
A walk?
Yeah. The sun's setting.
Oh.
We should catch it.
- Sure.
- Yeah?
Okay. Yeah.
Why not?
All right, come on.
Where are you going to take me?
I'm not telling you.
You should tell me.
No.
What if I'm not allowed to go?
What if I don't know
where we're going?
Oh, wow.
Wow. I love your spontaneity.
Yeah.
Thanks. Some people
call it A.D.D..
Really?
Yeah, but I don't judge you.
Yeah, well, you shouldn't.
I think it's pretty
wonderful quality to have.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Nice.
Keeps me on my toes.
You're welcome.
A lot of people are boring.
- I don't know.
- Oh my God.
Adventures and don't
know how to live.
You certainly certainly
know a lot of things
to keep it interesting.
[Laughter]
I try.
Oh you achieve.
You succeed.
Well,
you know, I used to live in the
next neighborhood down Cobble
Hill before we moved to Jersey.
Did I know you then?
Um,
no, actually.
Yeah, I love it.
I mean, you want to
hear something crazy?
Yeah.
I almost didn't take the spot.
Really?
Yeah. I got a residency.
What's that?
So they put me up in the
apartment, and they pay me a
ton of money to paint, and then
they put me in a few galleries.
That's amazing.
It's pretty wild.
I just, it's kind of hard to
believe the hype, you know?
How long is this
going to last, really?
I mean, I go to these
galleries and I see these.
I see toilet seats on the wall
itself for like a
quarter of $1 million.
[Laughter]
Well,
do you paint on toilet seats?
No.
And it sounds like you've got
nothing to worry about, right?
Hey.
Wait a second.
You were supposed to show
me your art, remember?
- Yeah. No. What?
- Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Uh-Uh!
Quiet. Quiet.
Oh, wait. What's that?
Oh, we gotta go.
We dated in college.
Now she's got, you know,
a husband and kids.
I do.
Two tangerines, frozen mango,
two scoops of vegan vanilla
protein and a splash
of lemon juice.
It tastes exactly
like a creamsicle.
Damn.
Wow. Look at how many
lights there are.
- I know.
- It's crazy, isn't it?
Like most of those, especially
because it's Wall Street.
It's all work.
All work? No play.
Wow.
Lawyers, accountants.
Probably shredding
papers right now.
[Laughter]
Most likely.
You miss the city?
Oh, I miss it so much.
I, I really want to move back.
You should.
Yeah.
I don't know.
You know, sometimes.
I mean, you got
millions of people.
And,
yet somehow I still feel lonely.
- Really.
- Sometimes.
Sometimes.
I feel like people are,
craving connection.
Craving.
Something.
Yeah.
- But.
- What do you crave?
Me?
Yeah.
Mm.
Lots of things.
- Really?
- Yeah.
Like what?
I don't know if I
should tell you yet.
Okay. So there's a yet.
So that means there's a
possibility that
you will tell me.
Yeah.
Okay.
We gotta go.
What?
Oh, no.
No.
- Again?
- Yeah.
This is so cool.
You've never done
this before, have you?
No.
Oh.
You okay?
- Kidding.
- Oh.
Kiss it make it feel better.
Oh, God.
Wait, wait.
Oh. I should probably make
sure I get that train.
I think the last one's
like a one or something.
Yeah. Of course.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm gonna go to
the bathroom first.
Okay. Okay.
I can walk you to the train.
I think I might,
get a lift later.
Yeah.
Okay.
But
I need you to show me.
Now.
Mhm.
Yeah. Ready?
These are incredible.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Thank you.
I can see so much.
Like what?
You.
Pain. Chaos.
They're just paintings.
What happened to you?
What?
They're just paintings.
You don't have to hide from me.
You're staying right?
Oh, yeah.
[Soft music]
Princess bed.
Stop! I knew it.
Don't.
Don't!
This is what they gave me.
And I didn't want
to take it down.
Because you like it.
Cause I'm a fucking princess.
Yes you are.
Hey
You don't know
where you're going
Set your mind on a
one way trip
Where the wind is blowing
Secrets that you keep
Are keeping you down
You think you might drown
That's no way of living
Let me be the light
To things you've never seen
Let me be the light
Let me be the light
Let me be the light
Let me be the light
To your darkest thought
Let me take your
deepest fear
Hold them to my heart
Hey
You don't know
where you're going
Hey.
Hey!
You okay?
Yeah.
Can't sleep?
No.
Do you, um.
No.
Absolutely not.
I really like you being here.
Really?
Nice.
Me, too.
I'm gonna find.
[Soft music]
You
You keep me high
I'm on the edge tonight
I think I'll fly
This dream
I can't describe
It's like I'm lost in time
You're by my side
All I wanna do is run, run,
baby, with the top down
Hold hands, you drive
We're getting high tonight
I'm gonna fly tonight
All I wanna do is run
Right, baby, with the
top down
Hold hands, you drive
We're getting high tonight
I'm gonna fly
Stars collide
Such a cold embrace
Yet we survive
All I wanna do is
run, run, baby
With the top down
Hold hands, you drive
We're getting high tonight
I wanna fly
Hey.
Hello.
So I got this little note.
Oh, my God, what is this?
I don't know.
Who would have wrote
something so ridiculous?
Um. I made something light,
so that way we could eat this.
And then you can tell me what
you like, and then
I can make it.
I can tell you what I like.
Yeah, you can tell
me what you like.
Do you like apples and yogurt?
Mmm.
Yeah.
Not bad, right?
Really good.
Oh, it's so good.
Mm.
Mmm.
Mhm.
Mhm. Mhm.
Mhm. Mhm.
Mhm.
I love apples.
[Laughter]
Good morning.
Good morning.
You love feeding
people don't you.
I love feeding you.
- Really.
- Yes.
Mm.
So what would you like
for breakfast?
What do I want for breakfast?
Mhm.
[Indistinct]
We should probably
be real people.
What does that mean?
You know.
Go be in the world.
- In the world?
- Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Can I use your shower?
Of course.
- Okay.
- Okay.
- Okay. Okay.
- Okay. Okay.
Hey.
[Indistinct]
Thout we'd go get some lunch?
Are you hungry?
Come on.
Oh. Come on.
We'll go get some food.
[Indistinct whispering]
I'll go put on my dress.
[Indistinct]
I made all 12 of them necklaces.
Later we go to try to make out,
like where the lions
are or something.
That's.
That's why it's
called the ravine.
Um, have you been to
the castle in central?
A long time ago.
Yeah.
Come on.
We gotta go to the castle.
Overlooks Prospect
Park on oceans.
Like your art, I suppose.
Absolutely.
Oh. Do tell.
Yeah.
Yes. They were really?
Absolutely.
Wow. You're silly.
I don't believe you.
One day.
One day, I will own a castle.
Not this one, though.
No, but I'll have a dungeon.
Oh.
Mhm.
And.
I'll take you there.
Will you?
Absolutely.
What?
We should go back to mine.
I should go home.
Oh.
Sorry.
You slayed the dragon.
Oh, I need different clothes.
I get it, I get it.
- You know.
- Yeah.
I'll come back tomorrow.
All right.
Yeah. Wanna play?
Absolutely. Yeah.
I mean, I got nothing
except for painting.
Goodbye, Castle.
All right, I gotta go.
You let me know about tomorrow?
Absolutely.
All right.
This was fun, thanks.
Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow.
Yeah.
Get home safe.
[Soft music]
And you give yourself away
With all the words
and the things you say
Everywhere they
needed you to be
Everyone's favorite
thing to see
Be mine tonight
If only for a while
And in the morning they
can hear you better
Just be mine tonight
And you break against
the way
There's nothing more
to give some day
And I'm not asking
for your sympathy
I'm just asking you
to stay with me
And be mine tonight
If only for a while
And in the morning
they can hear me, baby
Just be mine tonight
Just be mine tonight
Tonight
Ab?
Ab?
Hey.
I got your cigarettes.
If you eat your muffin, I'll
give you the cigarettes.
No.
I'm not.
I'll have the cigarette and
then I'll eat the muffin.
Can't.
Can you?
Can you just hold on to it?
Maybe. And have it later.
Yeah.
Promise? I'll wrap it up.
Okay.
Yeah. Wrap it up.
Promise you'll eat it later?
You need to decide what
you want to do, Ab.
You know?
What do you mean?
Yeah, you know what
I'm talking about.
Like.
It's not going to go
on forever like this.
It's your turn.
Oh. Come on.
You've waited long, and
you know what I mean.
You have to decide
what you want to do.
This this this isn't.
This can't go on.
Okay.
Come in.
Hey.
Hello.
I told you I'd come back.
Right.
It's good to see you.
Do you want tea or anything?
No.
Okay. I'm just finishing this.
How was your night?
I don't know. Just a night.
Nothing special.
Yeah.
Yeah, I got some writing done.
That's great.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You?
Yeah. Painted.
Yeah. Yeah.
Always painting.
Do creators creating?
Yes.
You ready to do this?
I'm so ready.
I always have the best ideas.
Come on, let's go.
Cool.
Yay!
So you.
You've never been here
or you have been here.
I've been to the beach, but
I haven't been to the ride.
When's the last time
you've been here?
Hey, what's your name?
When's the last time
you've been here?
Come on Red!
Five years ago.
How are you doing
with that loser?
I got money.
He doesn't have money.
I could fucking kill you, man.
Fucking chump.
Just leave it. Leave it.
It's nothing.
Just let it go.
- Let it go.
- Hang on a second.
What?
What? Huh?
Huh? What?
Kill me!
Kill me!
Go home and sober up, you
fucking piece of shit!
Come on.
What did you do?
Max.
Max. Max!
Max! What's going on?
What's going on with you?
What do you mean?
I mean, what happened
with that guy?
It was crazy.
And now you're walking
ahead of me, ignoring me.
And, I mean, what happened?
I didn't do anything wrong.
No you didn't.
The guy was drunk, Abby.
He told me he was gonna kill me.
He's probably just, you know,
out of his mind for the moment.
I know you went through
a lot with your husband.
Okay. But it is a different
scenario when you're here.
You have to set boundaries.
I'm sorry.
I'm not trying to yell at you,
but I'm just saying, like, it's
not safe out here.
You don't know these people.
I just wanted to protect you.
Look. Can we.
I'm sorry.
Can we?
Can we let go of that energy
and go into the park
and have a good time?
Yeah.
Let's go ride some rides.
Away.
It sounds like it's
actually made out of cans.
Whatever you need.
I'm not getting on that thing.
So when was this thing built?
Um, 17.
Right when the
Revolutionary War ended.
Yeah. Thank you.
Oh man. We're really high up.
We're gonna go.
I think we're gonna go again.
No, no no, no.
I know it, I can feel it.
I can feel it.
- Hey, Abby. Abby.
- It's gonna slip any second.
- I got you.
- What, what, what.
- I got you. You're safe.
- Really?
- Okay.
- Yeah.
Hey, look at me. Look at me.
You're safe.
I promise.
You promise?
You have control
over this thing.
Yeah. See you later.
Oh my God.
Ooh! Let's do spook-o-rama.
Ooh, that looks good.
You want to go scary?
[Screaming]
[Laughter]
Hey,
I'm just hanging out
with my buddy here.
You ready to get
your ass whooped?
Oh! You stop!
Hey, y'all.
Wow. You got great muscles.
Yeah, you look great.
Oh, thank you.
[Indistinct]
Oh, you teach fitness?
Yeah. Teach fitness.
Really? Where do you teach?
I'm teaching fifth and Queens.
Calcium jeopardy!
Oh, how fun. I would.
Oh, maybe I could come by.
Yeah come by, right.
You gotta get.
Yeah. We're ready.
There's, like, some
puppy right here.
Oh, yeah.
Congratulations.
Oh.
Before we lose our shirt.
Oh.
Thanks, man.
Thank you for the puppy.
- Yeah.
- I like to be on film.
Oh, yay!
Oh, he's so cute.
But why did we leave?
We were winning.
We could have won
something even bigger.
Oh, you got.
Those games are rigged, man.
You gotta leave before
you lose your shirt.
You know what I mean?
You weren't gonna lose anything.
I'm. I'm a good shot.
- Yeah.
- Right?
You saw that?
I saw that.
We should do bumper cars.
Where's my gas?
Yeah.
[Laughter]
Kiss.
Yes.
It's so fun.
It's like, who am I right now?
I just don't even know.
Who am I?
Who am I?
It was all about
dreaming
And everything I'm
seeing all fades away
I can't believe you won this.
Oh come on.
It's from my mad
target skills, Max.
Your mad flirting skills.
- What?
- You heard me.
What do you mean?
What are you talking about?
You were flirting with the dude.
I'm sure that the
prizes are not this big.
I wasn't flirting with him.
I wasn't flirting with him.
What are you talking about?
Yes you were.
How can you say that?
That's crazy.
Because it's true.
You complimented him on his
muscles and told him you were
gonna go work out with him.
I was being nice, Max.
The poor guy is, like, back
there all day, you know,
running games.
There was nobody there.
Even, like, how
boring, you know.
Is this, like.
A problem?
Is this a thing?
What?
No no no no no.
I was.
I'm joking, I'm
joking, I was joking.
I'm joking. Yes.
I'm joking.
Sorry.
Pug life.
You won this fair and square.
From your mad shooting skills.
This is true.
Wanna go cuddle?
You want to be a little pug?
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
Let's go.
Tickle your belly.
What?
Just us being friends
for so long and.
Yeah.
That happened.
Thanks for inviting
me for dinner.
Of course.
Little did I know.
Yeah, I mean, I knew.
Sorry. I mean, look, I
was gonna force anything.
I just.
Yeah well you didn't have to.
I've always had a crush on you.
Seriously?
Yes.
And I know that you've been
going through a tough time, and
I felt I was, I was torn.
It was like, do I or don't I?
I'm just glad that
it happened now.
Yeah me too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Better late than never, right?
Yeah.
Definitely.
Less baggage.
Yeah.
Yeah. For sure.
So how did you get into art?
How'd you get into painting?
So when I got into
high school, I, uh,
So you know, you can sign
up for whatever you want.
And I signed up for art not
because I wanted to, but
because I thought it
would be fucking easy.
And, um.
And my teacher,
he kept trying to teach us form.
I mean, he didn't try.
He did.
[Indistinct]
I think I was trying to piss
him off, you know, because I
was like, I don't
want to do this.
I thought this was going
to be fucking easy.
And he started embracing
my weird.
And one day he kept me up after
class and he was like, you
know, you're you're
talented, right?
And that was the first time
that anybody had
ever told me that.
And he's like, but you
need to learn form.
And he said something. He said.
Talent without hard work
is a tragedy.
And so the next day.
I started learning form
and I started loving art.
Yeah.
What about you?
What started with writing?
Crazy shit.
As a kid.
Um,
I would see things in the world
that I really didn't like.
And I knew I didn't have the
power to change anything.
Yeah. So I would make up
stories in my head about an
alternate reality
of the way it went.
Right. And I.
Wrote my first full length
play in third grade.
Kind of crazy, but
don't you think?
Everybody that does
art is kind of crazy?
No, we have to be
a little crazy.
I've never really known
how to fit into society.
Yeah.
[Laughter]
Goofball.
I'm coming with you.
So how many women have you
actually brought back to your
little den setup?
My den?
Yeah.
Let's see.
None.
I'm dead serious.
None. Well, first of all,
it's a new space, right?
I've been here two months.
Yeah.
I just.
I don't know.
I've been,
working. I mean, working.
Um. Yeah, but I
just think that, uh,
I don't know.
I'm a hippie, I guess.
I believe in energy and things.
So I just want to
make sure that,
you know, the energy's
nice in here when I'm
doing my work.
Mhm.
Ahhh!
[Laughter]
You're gonna fall off the bed.
It's worth it.
Uh uh.
[Laughter]
Ah! Oh!
Oh.
[Laughter]
Still what I'm working on?
Wait. You know what
you have to do?
Okay, what can I show you?
Yeah.
Stop.
- What the fuck is that?
- It's a sock.
Oh, nice.
Okay. That's true.
I just got to go around.
Oh.
Really?
Okay, get to work.
Get to work.
I'm working, I'm working.
Piece of paper that
has nothing on it.
Well, that did it for sure.
That thing knows.
Oh, oh.
Wow. You are amazing.
Oh.
Oh.
I have a question, and you
don't have to answer it if you
don't want to, because I
know it's a very personal.
Why? Why did you stay?
In, um, 2008.
I did an intervention,
and, um, he was so angry
because he felt
that I outed him.
And he said to me at that
point, um, he refused to ever
sleep in the same
bed as me ever again.
And he also would never
let me get a divorce.
So at that point, I kind
of realized I was kind of
basically in jail.
Yeah.
And so I
figured out how many years I
had to serve out my sentence.
And then I just dove in to
making money, taking
care of the kids,
trying to pretend I was a
suburban mom,
but I've never been that really.
[Indistinct]
How are the kids now?
They're okay.
Getting better.
But.
There were a couple times I
would, um, get in touch with a
divorce lawyer or
that kind of thing.
And, um, they would
all say the same thing.
That the fact that he was
trying to kill himself from
alcoholism showed that he had a
disease, a disease, a disorder.
And if I try to leave him, I
would be forced to support him
the rest of my life.
Yeah.
Yeah. But then there's the
other part where, you know, he
had saved me from
a bad situation, and,
I was just kind of trying
to return the favor.
You know, I wanted to save him.
Yeah.
And I even said to him so many
times, you know, we don't have
to do this.
You're more than welcome to
go and be with somebody else.
You know, find your way.
Go be alone.
Move wherever you want.
I won't.
I would never expect
anything from him.
It was so crazy, though,
that night when it happened.
After they took the body
away and the cops left.
I was standing in the
kitchen with my kid.
And I couldn't cry.
And, um,
it was like this deep part of
me, this animal, part of me
just said, I don't know who
I am without this problem.
My whole life has
been built around it.
And
in that moment, I knew, like
all my co-dependants, was gone.
All the things that I had tried
for so many years to
try to fix myself.
And in one moment I was done,
and I felt so guilty
that I was actually
going to be okay.
What are you doing
with your fingers?
Oh.
This
will bring me back to the
energy of everything
that I'm feeling.
So that when you know,
I want to feel the way I do
right now, all I
have to do is this.
Nice.
Yeah. So I always
have this moment.
I remember when we first met
You were wearing
that summer dress
Told me everything
you liked best
And we danced all night
Don't remember
just what we said
You were calling
me Billy the Kid
Don't know how many shots
we did, but it sure was fun
Wake up, wake up
I'm so glad we
went to the museum.
That was so wonderful to be
back there as a grown up.
Yeah.
You know.
When's the last time you went?
About ten years ago, I think,
with one of my kids in their
field trip.
Oh, wow.
But it was a bunch of kids, so,
you know, they want to, like,
keep it moving and everything.
Yeah. You can't
read and kind of,
- Yeah.
- Really dive in and.
Yeah, really absorb
it, you know?
Yeah.
No. That was.
Logical.
Yeah.
And what did wipe
out the dinosaurs?
That's the real question.
I don't even know.
What do you think?
I don't know.
I've got different theories.
I mean, there's the things
we're told about a meteor.
- Then there's the things that.
- Makes sense.
Pangaea.
Yeah.
You know.
Aliens wanted to, like, have
their own hybrids take over,
and so they wipe them
out with the great flood.
Or there's the idea that
the Great Flood is actually
something from, you know,
the Bible and God did it.
Yeah.
I mean, I see you wear a
cross, but do you actually.
Um.
Yeah.
Really?
Yeah. I mean,
I don't know when the last
time I went to church was.
I don't think you need
church to believe in God.
No, I just think sometimes I
miss out on the
community aspect.
Do you believe?
Oh, completely.
Nice.
My whole life I'd been married
about three years, and the
alcoholism was really bad.
And I was trying to
get through to him.
And, you know, it was like,
okay, if you don't want to fix
yourself for you or for me or
for the kids, then you know,
what about this amazing
opportunity of life and this
body that God gave you?
I mean, why would you just
shun that and and mistreat it?
This gift.
And he said, I don't
believe in God.
And I had the craziest reaction
because I thought, whoa, how
like how how did
I not know this?
Crap. That's that
explains everything.
Yeah.
And it was something
that I made a note of.
I thought, you know, okay, it's
clearly an important thing for
me that people that I'm
close to believe in some way.
I mean, I'm not into
organized religion either.
I've never been.
I don't think it's necessary.
God's everywhere.
It's, you know, the sky, the
earth, the air, the light.
Yeah.
You know, it's inside our cells.
I mean, everywhere be something
that was missing in
this other person.
Made everything else
kind of logical.
Yeah.
And then I spent the rest of
the time that we were together
just, um, trying to
prove that it's real.
And.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
But you can't convince people.
No. I mean, all we
can do is just, uh,
show off our light.
Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
I like your light.
Thanks. I like your light, too.
Want to go get some food?
That's always your answer
to everything.
I know.
It's either food or a
different adventure.
Yeah. Let's go eat.
I think it's Taco
Tuesday, isn't it?
Holy shit, it is Taco Tuesday.
Let's do this.
Just chop it up.
Well.
What?
Why did you put water
in your drink?
So it makes it smell better.
Why?
It's blasphamy.
How dare you do that to
a bartenders drink.
It's better now, taste it.
Now you won't get fucked up.
That's. Yeah, that's.
That's true.
Just put water to drink.
It'll be fine.
Well, they always say you
should have water when you're
drinking, right?
Exactly.
So that's what I do.
So,
I know this is crazy, right?
Yeah.
Yeah,
[Indistinct]
Yeah. Well, if I had
checkers, we could play.
I've never played chess.
It is a fun game.
Really?
Mhm.
Cool. Do you have like what?
No no no I'm good.
It's just.
It's fine, it's fine.
If, um.
I mean, do you want
to tell me something?
What do you mean?
You been getting, like, all
kinds of texts and calls, and
you never take them in front of
me, and I'm just like, there's
something this guy's hiding.
Because kind of, you
know, that makes me think.
No, I understand that.
I don't care.
- No.
- It's like.
Yeah.
I mean, this isn't like
anything, really, right?
- Abby.
- I mean, this isn't anything.
- It's the
- Honestly.
Huh?
It's the gallery.
Oh, okay.
The gallery is texting me
because they want
to see my progress.
That's it.
Oh.
Yeah.
I.
I have sent them
pictures, so they're fine.
But you really haven't been
doing it, have you?
Yeah.
I haven't really seen you
doing anything.
- I mean.
- I'm painting.
Well you're hanging out with me.
I'm doing a lot.
Oh, that's awful. That's so awful.
No, that's.
I'm happy.
Me too.
But,
I mean, actually, you know,
it would be smart,
probably to just kind of.
- What?
- Take a breath.
And, you know,
I'm probably still fucked
up, so I should probably.
You know, I've got
things I need to do.
I've got things I should take
care of, and I haven't been
taking care of them.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, if you got to do that,
I mean, I should probably be
painting as well.
I mean, look, why don't we take.
You're right, you're right.
Why don't we take a few days?
A few days?
Yeah.
I was going to just,
like, go tonight, but.
That's what I'm saying.
You.
Oh, I leave now.
Yes, I leave now.
Okay. All right, all
right, all right.
Sounds good.
Yeah.
Abby.
You don't have to leave now.
[Soft music]
[Music continues]
[Music continues]
[Music continues]
Hey.
Oh. Oh my God.
I just couldn't stay away.
I missed you so bad.
Take me. I'm yours.
Yeah, get rid of that.
Get rid of that.
Here, take this off me.
Get this off me.
What?
Nothing.
What? Come on. What?
I like this.
Me too.
And I never had a art studio
in my apartment before.
Really?
Yeah. I've always had to
go out for work.
I don't know if it's a
good thing or a bad thing.
Why?
Easily distracted.
Yeah. Normally I
don't let anyone in
until the work's done.
Mm.
I'm running out of ideas
with what I'm doing.
Oh, yeah.
Mhm.
Maybe me.
Time for a break.
I think you might.
Be right, Sam.
What do you think?
Are we up for that?
Yeah. Yeah.
[Soft music]
[Music continues]
Oh. Feels good.
Oh.
Okay.
Good.
Yes.
Oh. Oh.
I'm so glad I went
and had brunch.
That was so good.
Yeah, that's a good idea.
The tea sucked though, right?
It did?
Yeah. You're right.
That's why we're doing this.
Hold on.
All right.
I've got,
English tea time.
Or green tea?
Green.
Alright. Perfect.
Are you gonna answer that?
I guess I could, yeah.
Hey, Jason.
Hey. How you doing?
No. I'm good.
I'm just hanging out
with my friend Max.
Yeah.
Seriously? Oh, my God,
that sounds incredible.
Yeah, I would love to.
Um, how about, uh,
tomorrow, like, six?
Does that sound good?
Um, yes.
Wow, I can't wait.
Yeah, that'll be
great to see you, too.
Ah. Thanks, love.
All right. I'll talk
to you later.
See you tomorrow, bye.
Wow.
Nice. You got a date?
That's fun.
What? A date?
Yeah. Tomorrow.
You said it.
That's. That's my friend.
We used to work
together in real estate.
Cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
What?
What?
Nothing. I mean, you call me
your friend and we have sex,
and you call him your friend.
So I'm assuming you fuck
your friends, right?
What the hell?
He's showing me an
apartment tomorrow.
Sure.
Max, what is your problem?
I don't have a problem.
Max! What the fuck?
I don't know, you tell me.
What are you doing?
What are you fucking doing?
I'm not doing anything.
I asked you a question
about a date, that's all.
It's not a date.
He's showing me an apartment.
Okay. He's showing
you an apartment.
Great.
It's fine.
You know what?
Actually.
This is really
fucked up, you know?
Yeah, it kind of is.
Yeah.
How? What are you
even accusing me of?
Fucking your friends.
I don't fuck my friends.
I'm your friend.
You fucking me?
My God, it's like fucking
word salad with you.
What the fuck?
It's crazy.
No.
I mean, what, you're gonna
accuse me of flirting with him?
Is that what you're
gonna accuse me of?
I don't.
Yes, you are flirting with him.
You flirt with everybody.
Everybody. We don't go anywhere
in order for me to flirt.
Oh, I wonder why we
don't go anywhere.
Because you always want to
just fuck in the sex den.
You never wanna fucking go out.
Oh, my God, you are
fucking crazy, aren't you?
You are crazy.
I'm not doing this.
I'm done, I'm done.
I'm seriously fucking done.
I'm not.
- Okay.
- This is ridiculous.
Fine.
Fuck it. You know what?
Abby, just wait.
We're gonna have a disagreement.
A disagreement?
This is more than
a disagreement.
And I gave.
I gave so many chances
to people in the past.
I'm not doing that anymore.
Look where that got me.
Look where it got them.
Yeah, well, I misspoke.
I'm sorry.
You misspoke.
I'm going home.
Abby, just wait a second.
No.
Just wait.
Abigail, please, will you stop?
Stop what?
Stop. Just stop.
No, don't.
No! You can't tell me
what to do anymore.
You can't.
I'm not.
I'm not telling you anything.
I'm just asking you to fucking
have a conversation with me.
I tried to have a
conversation with you.
And you wouldn't do it.
Well, I'm here now.
Let's talk.
Talk about what?
What is it to talk about?
I don't know, you're upset, so
let's fucking talk about it.
You're jealous of nothing.
Okay.
No reason.
No fucking.
There was no reason
to be jealous.
What are you talking about?
You were flirting with him.
I was not flirting with him.
I was with you.
Okay. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
No, but you do this.
And with that whole thing about,
like, this being a
sex den, is that
all this is for you?
No, that that was rude.
And I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I put up with shit from my
husband for years, and I didn't
want to.
I held my voice in.
I didn't say anything.
I'm never doing that again.
I'm not your fucking husband.
Okay, okay.
We can talk.
You know what?
We can have a conversation
about this.
Please.
What is there to talk about?
I'm sorry.
Don't you ever do that to me.
Don't you ever do that to me.
All this shit.
You can't put the genie
back in the bottle.
You can't unsee or unhear the
shit that happened
today, I can't.
And I God, why didn't I
see it before it was there?
I just didn't see it.
Why? I mean, two months into
this and you are
showing me this.
It's not going to get better.
I know it's not going to get
better because things
don't get better.
They get worse.
All right.
If that's how you.
If that's how you feel.
That's how you feel.
You know we're adults.
We can.
We can talk about this.
This is a relationship.
You have to work through things.
You know what I mean?
You have to work.
I shouldn't be so much work.
Okay. All right.
I'm sorry.
Can we just.
Can we just take
a few days and then.
I gotta go.
Abby.
I haven't figured out
That master plan
Can be so hard
Just to be a man
My father left me
When I was young
Got 20 years
But I wasn't done
And someday I'll rejoice
When I get to hear
Your loving voice
Someday we will smile
And I'll hold you for a while
I haven't figured out
That master plan
We say goodbye
To every mom and dad
We get to love them up
And then we lay them down
Only get so many days
With them around
And someday I'll rejoice
When I get to hear
Your loving voice
Someday we will smile
Cause I know
I'm gonna hold you
for a while
And I just want you to know
Please leave a message.
I don't want you to go
Hey. It's me.
Call me back if you want.
[Tense music]
You fucked up again, didn't you?
Huh?
Always a fuck up.
You and your little
brother both.
What the fuck is that?
You're wearing a fucking
cross around your neck.
You think God's gonna save you?
Huh?
Huh?
You're a piece of shit
just like me.
Never forget that.
[Crying]
Oh. Fuck.
[Birds chirping]
[Birds chirping]
[Soft music]
[Soft music continues]
[Phone ringing]
Hello?
Hey.
How are you?
Not good.
But I'm still going to go to
the yoga retreat in Mexico.
Joe's coming with me.
I just won't be able
to do much yoga.
Mhm.
Uh, a lot of cute guys
come to these things.
Might be nice for you.
Uh, I'm off the guy thing
for a bit, actually.
What happened to
the painter guy?
Yeah. Done.
Jealousy issues.
And I honestly didn't have it
in me to wait around to see if
it might be something else.
You know, I played
that game before.
That doesn't sound very fair.
You put up with my brother for
years, and now suddenly you
can't give a second chance.
What?
You heard me.
Oh, come on, you don't
know the whole story.
Oh! Shut up.
It hasn't been long
enough for a whole story.
It was two months.
Oh, yeah.
Okay. All right. So.
All right. Maybe.
How'd you leave it?
I just left.
Did he call or anything?
Yeah, he did, but I.
I didn't pick up.
When did you see him last?
A couple of weeks ago.
You just radio silenced him.
Um.
Yeah.
So you're just gonna
leave little messes
all around now.
I guess.
Look, I need to get back
into my life anyway.
You know, it was fun, but I.
You know, the kids are gonna be
back from school, and the And
holidays are coming.
And
are you home?
No. I, um, I was in the city
for a bit, just walking around.
I wanted to be
around people, and
I just, uh,
on my way to the supermarket
to pick up some things.
Might make a salad, but I'm
going to go back to Manhattan
tomorrow, and we're supposed to
get a heat wave, which should
be really nice.
Well, that sounds encouraging.
Is Mexico hot this time of year?
Yeah.
A little heat never hurt anyone.
Call me anytime.
And if I don't hear from you,
I'll just call you
when I get back.
All right, well, have a safe
flight and enjoy your vacation.
Okay, I will.
Okay, bye.
Oh, my goodness.
[Soft music]
[Birds chirping]
Oh, you, need to let go,
of what you've ever
thought before.
When one does that, all is well.
Every time.
Every time.
Of course, we could sit
and chat about it, but
now all you need to
do is go within.
The answers are there.
Every time.
Always.
And truly just align
with your heart.
There's no way.
There's no way.
What?
Hey.
Oh my God.
That's crazy.
You're stalking me?
No, you are stalking me.
No, you're stalking me.
This is my favorite park.
I don't know what you're doing.
You live in Brooklyn.
Touche.
All right.
How have you been?
I'm okay.
How are you?
I'm. I'm great.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
How's, uh.
How's painting?
It's good.
I mean, I'm just getting
ready for the gallery.
It's coming up.
- Nice, nice. Good.
- Yeah.
How's the writing?
It's good.
That's good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um.
I mean, I tried I tried to call
you, uh, a few weeks back, and
I figured you didn't
want to talk, so.
No. I'm sorry.
That's okay.
Hey. It's okay.
I let it, I let it go.
I get it, I do.
So it's good.
Uh, do you want to go
somewhere and and just talk?
Um.
Come on.
While in the biggest city in
the world, we just run into
each other twice.
It's just
it's like crazy.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy, right?
Just for a little bit.
Yeah, sure.
Come on.
Yeah.
- Yeah.
- All right.
I've been thinking a lot.
Yeah. Me too.
I think maybe
neither of us was ready.
Yeah. Maybe.
I just.
I also don't want to let
go of what,
we started.
Things happen.
Maybe after.
Everything. Maybe I
can take you out again.
[Indistinct]
For so many years, my
husband would do this crap.
So, and,
every time he would promise
it's over not again, I promise,
not again.
I'm gonna stop.
And every single time.
Go back to that.
Every time.
And when he left I just,
swore I would never.
I'd never get into
anything like that again.
You know.
I know, I really know.
I've been going to therapy.
Really?
Yeah.
Yeah.
They ask you this little
questionnaire at the beginning?
I didn't realize how
much I had buried.
My mom died when I was
really young.
My dad was an alcoholic.
He was really abusive.
He'd come home and
beat her within an
inch of her life.
This one time, he
came home plastered,
and, uh, she had to
go to the hospital.
And she died two days later.
My god, I'm so sorry.
It's okay.
My dad got thrown in jail,
and me and my brother went to
foster care.
But they wouldn't keep
us together, you know?
No one wants two boys.
I write him?
I would write him.
And then one day, he
just stopped writing me.
You know, the.
Um.
[Children playing]
I mean, things started to pan
out, like I got adopted when I
was in high school
by this older couple.
They were amazing.
But then they passed too.
They passed,
two months of each other.
She passed.
And then he passed right after.
He missed her.
I don't know how to
be around people.
I think that's why I paint.
That's why I'm so secluded.
And, uh,
I think that's why
I'm overprotective.
Just when I find something that
I love, I don't
want it to go away.
Max.
Max.
Max.
I'm sorry.
Don't apologize.
Please.
I know that we're.
I know we're broken.
So broken.
I'm sorry.
No. It's okay.
I just think that.
I think we should at least,
try.
Yeah, maybe.
I want to show you
my new paintings.
Okay. When?
Now. Can I show you now?
I'd love to see them now.
Are you all right?
Yeah.
Let's go.
Come on.
Max.
These are.
What?
They're so different.
Yeah.
They're so vast and
calm.
It's like the universe.
Yeah.
I love them.
Really?
Yeah.
I'm so happy for you.
Thank you.
I mean, I feel like.
They're actually reflecting
what's inside of you now.
It's a reflection of
how I feel about you.
I missed you.
I should probably go.
Yeah. Yeah.
Of course.
Thank you.
For what?
Telling me everything.
Yeah, I mean,
took took a minute.
Uh.
Yeah.
I'm a work in progress.
Abigail.
I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry.
We can do this.
Yeah.
- Let's just try again.
- Okay.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
What?
I'm just smiling at you.
Some secrets we keep
Some secrets we share
Sometimes we act like
there's just nothing there
The mysteries of life
Mysteries of death
Questions of why
we're even here
Drawing breath
There's no secret
how I feel about you
No secret how I
feel about you
Some things must change
Some things are just strange
Some things aren't
anything at all
The way that you look
The way that you feel
Sometimes
you're the only
thing that's real
No secret how I feel
about you
No secret how I feel
about you
Don't tell me what's wrong
Show me what's right
I know, I just need to
be with you tonight
No secret how I feel
about you
No secret how I feel
about you
No secret how I feel
about you
No secret how I feel
about you
