Depart from It (2025) Movie Script

- And...
- Alexis is my daughter's friend,
and I love her as if she's my own.
She's a kind, sweet,
young girl. We just
- Want her home.
Annie Caro has been arrested
for the kidnapping, rape
and torture of the
missing teen Alexis Miles.
He's also been charged with
racketeering distribution
of narcotics and sex trafficking.
- I'm just having my best
friend's home. She's home.
- Thus
us home when
we've been 10.
- When the rain.
- Kelly, do you love me?
- Yes, of course I do, baby.
- But the wind. Do you love me,
- Jason,
- Honey?
- I do. Yeah. I love
- You.
Why is there a bag pack
behind the dresser upstairs?
- You're trying to leave me.
How dare you constantly.
What do you think?
You're fucking nothing without
me. Wrong with you. Stop.
- Jason, stop me.
- Jason.
How your ball
- You made me.
Amen.
- Ms. Carla, can I get you
something to eat? Oh, no baby.
Thank you. I'm not hungry,
Carla.
We're so sorry.
- We're praying for your strength.
- Aw. We loved Kelly.
Oh, I know. Thank you.
For many years you
and the house of Theresa
has done all you could
to help my baby.
And I will forever be
grateful for that. You know?
It does give me some comfort knowing
that she was finally
attempting to get out.
- Yes,
- She was.
And after news spreader Kelly, four women
as they did the emergency exit plan.
We're housing them now. Good.
Well, as soon as you have
the memorial details,
we'll be sure to be in attendance.
Aw, thank you. Aw, thanks.
Oh, I appreciate you guys.
Thank you so much. I appreciate you.
- Has anyone talked to Alexis?
My father of the church doesn't
have any information on her.
- Well, I was able to keep
in touch with her whereabouts
and how she was doing
through her parole officer.
But after her probation ended a year ago,
she went MIA again.
Well, I haven't heard
from her in years. So
- Really what happened?
Y'all were all so close.
- I could say the same for you.
You was with us when we
was kids. What happened?
You left for your country
and didn't even turn back.
Look, I'll make some calls. I'll find her.
Miss Carla, you don't
need to be doing no work.
You need to rest. If that girl wanted
to be found when she would be found,
don't let yourself stress out over her.
- One of your friends are dead
and the other one is missing again.
Sasha, do you even care?
- Don't come in here pretending
like everything is all
right, like we don't remember
you left that church.
Stop it. Please. Just
stop. Okay? Don't do this.
Not now. Sorry.
- Miss Carla, we all love Kelly,
including Alexis.
And she would want to know
to be here for the funeral.
I will find her.
- Tony. Tony, listen. Listen, listen.
Listen. Tony, I know you mean well,
but you need to be careful.
Listen, Alexis has gotten
herself involved in some
serious mess.
- What
- Kind?
The kind you don't need
to get involved with.
And on top of that,
Caro has been released.
- What?
- Early release.
- Everything he did. I mean, what
about Alexis? I know. Listen,
- Listen.
Like I said, let me handle this
- Miss Carla.
I know I've been home for a while now,
but I just don't think that Alexis
or who Sasha thinks she's,
- Are you sure about that?
My baby missed Alexis so much.
Sometimes I think that's
why Sasha hates her.
So, I mean, think about it.
She watched how Kelly hurt so bad
because of the way Alexis treated her.
Especially after what
happened. See our uniforms.
We know how it feels
to fight for a country
that don't love us back.
Sasha, she just got tired of
fighting Alexis to love her.
Tony, I hate to tell you this,
but the Alexis, you knew it's gone.
- Who's Alexis? Now
- Listen to the Sons
of Gorillas in the Oh,
motor City Mazda Big room.
Bang, bang. Listen to the sons of me.
Gorillas in the draw. Draw. Oh boom.
Motor City, Mazda big room.
We shake your window
seals, any tiny steel.
Sit in the back seat
and you can barely hear.
I the whole block my music still. Still.
I'm about to sneak away.
It's like I'm still here.
I don't need earplugs
baby. I'm a super sub.
Can throw a block party
with my trunk open.
Nub put mommy's sluck
away. They booties vibrate.
Anytime I hit the Kona,
they looking my way.
I'll be going up to our
daughters out it Candy paint.
Don't need to show. Well
- Come to me.
I want you to,
yes.
Oh yeah.
- She's left for you up
front. I'm who? No name
- Michael Star. Darling.
- Hi. I am so sorry I'm late.
- No problem.
I would love for you to
chime in on the conversation.
Me and what's your name again?
- Vaughn. My name is Vaughn
- Conversation.
- Here's your drink. Ma'am.
- I chose for you.
I we were talking about these black boys
running away from cops.
I told Vaughn that sometimes
these felons are out of line
- Violence.
- Not all the time though.
But what do they expect if
they're breaking the law?
You being colored. What? Say you.
- Yeah. What Say you?
- I say Blue Lives Matter.
May I have some more please?
- Gladly my sister.
- Oh, oh, oh.
Ah,
it's me.
Bunny
- Ola. What are you doing
- Here?
So late
- Mount Ion.
What kind of a greeting is that?
- You got five seconds.
- Okay. This meal.
Floes said you gotta make that
drop with me on Sunday night.
Hell no. See, she thought
you were gonna say that.
Which is why she told me to give you this.
What time? 10 30.
Now your business. Hmm?
- Remember we gotta meet with
the card bureaus at 10 30.
Who? Hmm? The name. Who did you just say?
Oh, the carves. Look, I
overheard Flore said say
that she was meeting with some family
that just got back into
business after a cousin, uncle.
Somebody just got outta prison.
- Avi old.
- Hey Lori. Layna, what's going on?
Shut up.
- So you are the one that's
been dipping into the pot.
- Many, many. I ain't
touched 'em. Shut up.
- After all my family did for you.
Getting you off the streets.
Give you that work.
And I come home to find
out you taken from us.
- I was gonna put it back.
I promise my daughter needed
surgery and I didn't have the
- Sh.
Just like I told you,
- I can work it all off.
All of it. Look, lay please.
Manny. Please, please don't do it
- Now. You know you is
- Ball for that.
- How I told him not to bet me.
- Look. And he's nine years old girl
- And he learned a very valuable
lesson not to bet his mama.
Okay? And I got $5, so I
think I'm doing my job,
- Okay?
- She
- Good morning ladies.
- We not talking to you. Lola.
Let's take an early
lunch. It's only 9:00 AM
- Come on Lola.
You lucky.
- Thank you for meeting me.
How you doing? Whit?
- Well, for a girl
who still has her wedding dress in the
closet, I'm doing pretty good.
- You called it off.
- You know we were worried
when you left the base,
but then I got the rundown,
which is why I wasn't
surprised when you asked me
for information on the
infamous Alexis Miles
that I always heard about.
- Well, were you able to find anything?
- Yeah, actually I was.
Tony, listen. If anyone
finds out what I did,
- My body will.
I promise.
- Okay.
Take care of yourself.
- Vote right,
- You too
- Smith.
- Hey now you know Flora said don't like
nobody back there when she counting.
- I need to know everything
you know about the Caros.
Well star my favorite
hoe. Hello to you too.
- I'm told that Bunny about
all that eave dropping. Mm,
- Avios copy.
Oh, you talking about
the garbage pail monkeys
who gonna make me a rich
win come this Sunday?
Ah yes. Well that is at
the hyperactive bunny in
your temperamental tale.
Don't mess it up. Look,
I ain't playing Flo Set.
Manny Caro.
Is he in charge of this drop Now one thing
for showing two things for certain,
you don't bring your Chucky
hair ass up in my place
thinking you gonna run shit.
You know better than that.
- Hmm.
- All right, now that's better.
Now from what I understand,
the boy daddy is dying
and many of them went
from trafficking bodies
to the pharmaceutical business.
So according to my hypothesis,
sugar Sweet. Yeah man.
Will be at the drop.
See that this situation got
your pennies in a bunch.
You know the Rios,
we got some history.
History star.
One thing you know about me is
I don't ask you host too many
questions, I just don't.
But I'm gonna ask you this question.
Is this history gonna mess
up my bank account history?
Because I don't need
nobody running up in here
messing up my deals.
Now we'll have Lonnie and
Q do it, but they done went
and got themselves locked up.
So I trust you two Coke
out Bunny. You trust her?
Oh, I absolutely do.
That's because my digits of my
money always come back to me.
Correct. When they leave her hands.
Plus she want that golden green
card. So she'll keep it up.
Look here Star. You know
how I feel about my coins.
I don't wanna have to hurt
nobody over some history.
You hear me?
- Oh - By the way, Willie
came by and left you a gift.
Keep it.
- You can brag. You what?
Ain't God to work for that bag.
Go get in one day. You can. I have it.
You know that I got it. Don't
need to look all in a bag
like this because I work so hard.
I'm the best. I only
speak facts in the store.
I'm popping them tags. A
limited S for the cash grab.
I don't really wanted that bag.
If I say that I have it,
you know that I got it.
Don't need to look all in a bag
like this because I work. So
- Really stop calling my
- Alexis.
Please don't hang up. Look, I,
I just really need to talk to you.
I'm outside.
- Can I come here?
- How did you find me?
- I had a friend. Look you up
- An army friend?
- Yes.
- Ain't that like illegal or something?
Wouldn't God call that
a sin? What do you want?
- It's Kelly. She's dead. I,
- Jason.
- Wow. Yeah, Kelly was
always the dumb one anyway.
I'm guessing you don't want
none of this church boy.
- No. No thank you.
- She in the ground yet.
- The funeral is tomorrow
2:00 PM I was hoping
that you would come with me,
you know, so you can be there.
I bought my parents old place.
You know the one on Woodward?
You can stay there if you want.
- Go with you.
Go on a two hour drive
in a car with you.
Are you crazy? I mean,
have you lost your mind?
You show up to my house
after all these years as if
I shouldn't blow your brains
- Out. Hey Alex.
- Alexis, didn't your GI soldiers tell you
I buried their name?
Okay look, I'm sorry. Oh, I'm sorry. What?
You sorry for Tony? Huh?
You sorry for being a coward.
Oh, but you're a big boy now. Huh?
All those medals and stars make you not
piss your pants no more.
- Get outta my house. Get outta
my house. Alright. Alright.
I ain't got the money.
Get outta here. Six five
- Back goes in the place
with the beatty face to beat.
Race in the fat. Get the body
the case outta this world.
Give us some space. Let you set the pace.
- I'm wearing my sexy face, right.
Oh, you talking about that black
and blue with the pink feathers?
That one. That's the one
girl. Y'all do nothing.
So I walked into the
room and baby, he don't
- Know what to do with himself baby.
I saw the bill, he
- Found something to do.
- Oh, he like to bring
gifts baby. That's him in.
So I said to him, are you
sure your wife want to watch?
I don't know y'all. It's like some new
thing that's going on or something. Where
- Is Star
- Now?
Willie, you know good and
well that there are schedules
and the schedules are to
be respected and collected.
And you my little tough checker.
You are not present
under that today anyways.
So sure enough here she come
walking in. Oh, the lights.
How did she start?
- I have to talk to her. I Mr. So much
- Now look at him.
Winnie the pull. You know good
and well that you can't come
around here making no mess.
And your.is not on the T.
You wait just like the rest of them. Now.
If there's nothing else,
I'm gonna get back to count my cone.
- This is so good.
- I was just saying that.
Oh, there. See, there you go.
- See you got,
- Hey Alexis.
Hey Carla.
- So the prodigal child
returns. How long you here for?
- Not long. I got a few
things I need to take care of.
And then I gotta head back
for some work on Sunday.
- Of course you do Star
Sasha. Look, everybody knows.
Nice to see you too, Sasha.
You know what I think is crazy?
How you couldn't manage to
return a call when Kelly was
alive, but you got the audacity
to show your face when she's dead. Sasha,
- Right? What was that?
- No, I am so tight of y'all walking
around here on eggshells because of her.
I never asked nobody to do nothing for me.
You didn't have to. Look. I
gotta work the midnight shift.
So I'll see you later. Oh,
kiss DJ for me.
Okay. Yeah, I will.
- That's a really cute brave
you eat. Thank you. Thank you.
You know, and I,
- So where you stand?
Rent a place downtown. You know
you could have stayed here.
Why Carla? You miss keeping tabs on me.
How are you Alexis? I
should be asking you that.
Well, I'm getting ready
to retire. So that's good.
You realize the bag and groceries
paid more than being a cop.
More like I got tired
of working for a system
that didn't give a rat's ass about me
or those who look like me.
You gotta look at that as just business.
You ain't gotta do shit.
You choose to take the
piss scraps people give you
and then walk around
preaching how That's life.
Just to make you feel
better. To hell with that.
What you accept is what will continue.
Just ask my daughter.
You know about Manny, don't you?
What you talking about
Carla? You know he is out.
No thanks to you Alexis. Listen to me.
Don't go trying to get
revenge. I'm telling you.
Let God handle it. Yeah.
Just like he handled it 18 years ago.
Oh baby, you gotta forgive.
If you don't forgive.
That hate that you're holding on
to is going consume your ass.
- Hey Miss Carla, I gotta go.
I got bible study, but I
did put all the food away.
- I gotta go.
- You, you good to drive?
- Didn't I tell you to let me handle it?
- Ah,
what up though?
- Hey Jack,
- Thanks for meeting me.
- You know I always make time
for you. Hey, it's messed up.
What happened to Kelly? Man
was smart to off himself.
He would've been a dead
man walking anyway.
- So what you got for me?
- You funny
question is
what do you need?
All of it. You getting right?
I heard he was out. You
going after Manny, ain't you?
- You a journalist now.
- All right. All right. These ain't cheap.
- Neither am I. You got
the other thing for me?
- Oh yeah. Here's the address
he'll be expecting Keisha.
- Of course he is.
- It's always a Keisha.
- Keisha. I'm gonna put some ice in this.
Do you want some ice in this?
- Just the way I like it.
- You know I've dated a
lot of Black Chick. Oh,
- Is that right?
- Yeah. Most of them say I am just
as pleasing as the black guys.
Mm.
- Well I can't wait to see
- As a matter of facts.
Come here.
- Mm.
- Take off your shirt.
- Ah, okay.
Not take off your pants.
- Uhuh you next.
- Come on now. Take off your pants.
- Only after you take,
whoa. What the hell?
What? What are you doing?
- Take off your pants
and look if you need, I really don't like
repeating myself.
Jesus. Yeah.
Come on, come on, come on. Yeah.
I knew you like black women
just like your racist brother.
Throw them to me.
- Levi colors. You had a brother
- Chasing cu?
- Yeah, so. Oh
- Shit.
Oh,
Kelly
- Was a sister to me.
- Look, I had nothing to do with it. Okay?
My brother's crazy as shit,
man. I'm sorry about Kelly.
- I'm sorry
- You, sorry.
You know her mama. She told
me how Kelly spent Christmas
one year with you and your family
and you, Mr.
Levi. You thought it would
be funny to get her a
Ain't your mama outfit for a gift?
Open your mouth
- Please Do.
I gotta repeat myself.
Oh,
- Tell your parents
that they did a piss poor
job at raising they kids.
And if you call the cops,
I'll, I'll make arrangements
to tell them myself.
- Hey, had it out with the girls.
- Okay. Make sure you count
every dime. Okay? Understand me?
Yes. All right, babe.
- Right.
- Your fat ass. Get in my office.
- I need to speak with Star.
She hasn't been returning
any of my phone calls.
I need her address.
- What you need is a straight jacket.
And now get your ass out. My office.
- Give me her address,
- Okay?
Okay. Look, Willie, I need
you to calm down, okay?
Just calm down. I'll get
your address. Just hold on.
Hold on.
- It hurts.
- Just a jab. Jab.
- Hey, hey. Maybe it's
time. Maybe it's time.
You took a break
now.
Jab? Yep. Yeah. Cross.
There we go. Jab cross.
Yep. Jab. Cross. You got it.
Jab, cross jab, jab,
jab. Right here. Face.
- Yep. Nice hit.
What? Are you following me or
something? Look girl, please.
I'm part owner of this place.
- What up though, Carly?
- Hey Sean.
By the way, I got your phone
number off the sign in sheet.
Looks like we're gonna
keep in touch after all.
I'm outta here. Don't
you take another step.
You and me gonna step
out for a little chat.
- Go easy on it.
- My daughter loved you. I
do not want to hear this.
Look, you going to hear this.
Sit down and wrong with you.
You owe me this.
Kelly looked up to you.
She admired how bold
and outspoken you were,
but most of all, she loved
how much you loved God.
Now, being on the force,
I couldn't take her
to church like I wanted to.
But your grandmother, I
appreciate her so much for
what she did for her.
Can we please get to the point that night
didn't just change you,
it changed all of you.
Sasha became cold.
Tony, Michelle,
- Kelly, distant.
And you, you started
- Hating yourself.
What they did to you
- Was wrong.
What Manny and all those rotten people did
to you was wrong.
And I'm so sorry you went through that.
You stop caring rather you lived or died.
Karen only gets shoot hurt.
Carla
Manny's making a big drug
deal tomorrow in Grand Rapids.
And you have to be back
in Grand Rapids tomorrow.
Coincidence? I got things to do.
You wanna end up dead, Alexis? He
- Killed
- Them.
- And then he killed me.
- I cried. I screamed.
- I begged.
You wanna know what he did? He
- Laughed.
I
- He deserves to die.
Look, you can't be his judge
and jury. Listen, listen.
God will handle him. I'm
telling you. Listen, okay.
The FBI is gonna be at that drop
and everybody there is either
leaving in cuffs or body bag.
- Hey, everything all right?
- I'm fine.
- You don't look fine.
I like you need a ride.
- I said I'm fine. Am I on some
stalking list or something? No.
- Come on. You know the
church is right up the street.
I was on my way there and
I passed by and I saw you.
That's it. Look, I got a
friend who's a mechanic.
I can call him.
He come told pick it up
and then have you good.
- Like I said, I'm fine.
- You hungry?
- I'm getting the most
expensive thing on the menu.
- You weren't playing
when you said you were
gonna hit my pockets. Huh?
- That's my specialty.
- How you doing Alexis?
- I'm so tired of people asking me that.
- Well, people normally
ask when they care.
- No, people usually ask
'cause they nosy as hell.
- Is that what you think
of me? You think I'm nosy?
- I don't know what to think. Tony, you
- Think I don't care?
- I said I don't know.
You wanna talk? Let's talk.
How many people you killed
over in them seeds. Huh?
Five, 15, a thousand.
Cat. Catch a dog. What if I
told you that I could
see myself taking a life?
What if I told you that I
am planning on it right now?
I don't know you and you don't know me,
- But I want to get to know you.
- No. Well, you want some
closure. You ain't getting that from
- Me.
- What are we doing here?
- I told you I was headed to the church.
- You are so full of it.
So this was your plan all along? Yeah.
To just bring me here
and just take me without
asking me. I would. You just
- Not a plan.
I wasn't just bringing
you somewhere. It is.
I just thought you would want to visit
- This church.
This church. Don't you?
You thought it would be cool
to bring me to this church.
- You love church? We both did. You are
- Crazy.
- What? Could you just
stop calling me that
- You are out of your mind.
Don't you ever think that you
can just take me somewhere
and force me somewhere
without my permission ever.
- Okay. Okay. I'm, I'm sorry.
I just, I didn't think of it
like that. I was just crying.
- Stop trying to save
- Me.
- Alexis,
please.
No, please.
- Who does and who
and how do I show up?
Like everything's okay.
Peace is nowhere to be found.
I was my face and looked in the mirror.
Truth was just staring at me.
I heard a voice in my
heart and I had to listen.
This is what he said.
Clearly I am here for
- You while you falling apart
for you while you cry.
Dark gonna be okay.
Things are gonna change. I'm here for you.
Here for you.
- Just yesterday I was broken in pieces.
I hold up,
but ask me how I'm doing.
But I to say,
I to pretend
with my shoulder.
He said it's okay.
And I couldn't hide anymore.
He said, I'm here for you while
- You're falling apart.
I'm here for you while
you cry in the dark.
It's going to be okay.
Things are gonna need
know I'm here.
- Honest that you
And
so I'm coming. I'm coming.
- Alexis, Tony.
- Tony. This description is a description.
And I can't remember. I day stop.
I seen him everywhere down.
Alexis six six told me two six.
And I, I can't remember my, my
mama when she would come home
and, and she would be on
track out my, my grandma.
She was saying the script all the time.
And I can't remember.
It's too, too quick. Okay.
- Probably
- 22 6. I coach 22 6.
What up a child in the way it should go.
And even when he's over depart from,
she used to tell me the same thing.
Okay?
- It's okay, Alexis. We be okay.
It's okay. It's gonna be okay. It's okay.
- Don't worry. Willie will find you.
Boatright. Mr. Boatright
- A
- Hello.
Don't take the menu. I said startle star.
I've been trying to get
in touch with you all
night. I've been busy.
- What's up? Florist is missing. Missing?
What do you mean missing?
What you think could've
happened to her? I don't
- Know.
This is crazy. Like box
of a milk carton missing,
- You know, florist.
She probably headed out to go
and try to find some
more money or something.
Oh, that's the thing. Star. All her
- Money is here.
What me?
All her money is in the red room.
- Okay. Okay, okay, okay. Okay.
Look, we, we gonna still
do business as usual.
I need to get to that drop.
You gotta hold it down until I get back.
- Me and Timmy have been
trying to keep the bar going
and the girls working, but I don't know.
I'm honestly starting to worry.
- Okay,
- You coming back tonight?
10 30 tonight. 10 30.
Look, I gotta go. Okay.
- Hey,
- Hey.
- You good? I'm fine. Okay.
Do you happen to have any plans for today?
- Why you got something
else up your sleeve?
- No, nothing like that.
It's just you leaving tonight
and I want to take you someplace.
Oh no, not church. I'm
sorry about that again.
I know the church holds
a lot of pain for you
and taking you there
without your permission.
I, I just shouldn't have done that. No,
- You shouldn't have.
- I would like to make it
up to you if you don't mind.
- No, I,
- I don't mind.
- I gotta be back in ground
rapids by 10:00 PM tonight.
- No worries. I called Chuck
and he said that your
car is first on the list.
He's on it. And if time catches
us, you'll get there.
I'll make sure of it.
- I need some clothes.
- We got donation boxes
downstairs in the basement.
- Food better come with this.
Come on.
- Oh my gosh.
- I got you. Come
- Here.
Yeah. Okay. And if you make me fall,
- I'm not how I'm gonna make
you fall. If I'm leading you,
- You could be leading me into a ditch
- Somewhere.
I'm not leading you into a ditch.
Come on, come on, come on. A couple more
- Steps.
Yeah. You just had a couple
more steps. A couple more steps.
- Well, a couple more steps
plus a couple more steps.
Almost there. Right here. Okay.
I know you said you
changed and I respect that.
But I also know that you love the arts
and the artist Jacob Carter.
- I still do.
Thank you.
- You remember that poetry
joint we used to go to?
- Yeah. I remember you trying
to get me to go up there
- And you refused.
- I sure did. But you went up though.
You were bold and strong. I admired it.
Remember that poem?
- You still play
- As these words.
I try to translate to the one
who translated us into the
kingdom of his son to him.
I run to, even with no lace in my shoes
to him, I make everyone a liar.
And his words to be true. I do.
I take you Jesus.
To be my lawful and only God
- To have and to hold
uneven death should do his part.
I remember some of it.
- I got you something.
- Little old me
- And I left your
personalized poetry book on
- My top.
Yeah, you know what? You
all right about something?
Some things just don't change, you know?
You have to gimme that before
I leave, right? Scouts Honor?
- Did you like it over there?
- I don't think anybody
liked it over there. Yeah,
- But you stayed.
Why? Oh,
- What's her name?
- Whitney.
- Did you love her?
- Yes, I loved her.
- Then what happened?
- I was in love with someone else.
- I'm, I'm sorry. It's fine.
- Hello.
- Hey, brother Tony.
- Oh, hey Sister Callie.
How you doing? What? What's going on?
- Hey brother Tony. What
up door, brother? Tony?
So Cassidy, Lenon
and I are here at the church
for our rehearsal. And the doors are
- Locked.
- Deacon Boatwright. He's not up there.
- We called Deacon Boatwright.
He said, you got the keys.
- No, I don't. I don't think I have
the I'll be right there.
- Thank you. You
- Okay? All right.
- You, you think you, you
don't got it. You don't.
- Look, they really need these keys.
And so I can drop you off first
and then I'll just hit right over there.
- No, that is totally out
the way. Alright. Ride. Ride.
I'll just sit in the car.
- Are you sure? I know you
gotta be on the road by seven.
You gotta figure out
transportation and everything.
- I know. I'm fine. Really?
We have enough time.
So let's go.
- Okay.
How you know he had a girlfriend am
- Lord
- Oh brother.
Let go down. Let's go
down in quiet moments.
Heart did blend. We spoke
of God, my dearest friend.
His worth will forth with
deep emotion of God's immense
and love and devotion.
He spoke of guidance and
protection through the night.
God, our Lord, who makes burdens of light.
And Jesus teachings his soul found rest
and love and forgiveness.
We all feel truly blessed.
He sacrificed himself so pure, so grand
to cleanse all sin across the land.
The Holy Trinity.
A sacred blend of Jesus' Lord
and the Holy Spirit peace descends within
is staying shown bright of
beacon, clear as Jesus' life
and resurrection held dear.
A radiant hope for life to
grasp and sacred tales of love.
So vast God
- Said, I took all of me put in a body.
And there in that physical
form was then born my son,
Jesus Christ, who did
not live just to die.
Because if that was the case,
he could have given up the ghost
and said, it is finished
from the very first day.
But I wanted you even at
your very worst state.
So he came not to just live, to die,
but to live, to make alive.
So that in the 33 years that
he survived, you could see
through Christ that this is the kind
of kingdom life that I've designed.
So that you could know that
love isn't passionate emotion,
drawing hearts into deeper
false devotion until
that equals stress.
Man, love is three nails to a cross.
Pining my son up on a tree
until that equal death, man,
love is all that I have for you.
It's all that I know.
- Go down.
Let's, God's love is that
love that don't cost a thing.
He's the alpha and Omega,
the beginning and the end.
The author and a finisher to the story
that Satan can't write.
'cause this here is a
fixed fight, a spoiler
to my favorite movie, where he
leaves the 99 to get the one.
You are the one,
the one who'll never leave nor forsake.
You are the one moving
mountains because of your faith.
The one he's calling back
home. The angels rejoice
- Over one.
God loves us. We don't
need a church building
to a New Orleans triple of
Christ. We are the church.
- Amen. So if you want to be made new,
you don't need no hocus pocus.
No. Jump up and down around
in a circle five times.
All you need is your voice.
- If you've been looking
for love through men,
through women, through pain,
and you're ready to
finally give your life back
to Christ the one
who loved you first
unconditionally repeat after me.
Lord, forgive me. Lord forgive
- Me.
For my sins. For my sins.
I believe, I believe
that you died buried and was resurrected.
That you died. Buried.
You was resurrected because you
love me. 'cause you love me.
I accept
- You into my heart. Into my
- Heart.
And by your power. And by your power.
I am a whole, I am a hope. In Jesus name.
In Jesus name. Amen. Amen.
- Thank you Jesus.
Hmm. Hmm.
- Hello?
- Hey, Tony, you busy?
- I don't know what's going on.
- Well, I'm assuming you went over the
Alexis Miles file button now, right?
- I, yeah, I did.
- Well then, you know
that Alexis AKA star?
She had a madam that went by
the name of Florist Summers.
- Yeah, I seen that.
- Well, look,
our coast guards pulled florist out
of the river this morning.
What? Yeah.
Word around is that Alexis
had something to do with it.
Cops can't find her.
So we think that she's
heading out of town.
Have you heard from her?
Hello? Tony, you there?
- Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I'm, I'm here.
- Tony. Have you heard from Alexis?
- Look, I, I I gotta
go. Thanks for the call.
- What? No prob
- Crazy day, huh?
- Yeah,
- Something's wrong.
- I'm, I'm gonna stay here
with them and help 'em wrap up.
Their parents should
be here. Take the keys
and go wait in the car if you want.
- You gonna keep giving
me the cold shoulder.
You gonna tell me what's wrong?
Who was that on the phone?
- Whitney. - See, I don't
wanna have no parts of what?
- Look this, it's
nothing like that at all.
- Then what is it? Why'd you come
here like the town?
What do you mean? I came
here for Kelly's funeral.
- Really? 'cause you were certain
that you had no plans when
you pulled a gun on me.
- No. I said I didn't
wanna come here with you.
Get your facts straight. Are
- You running from the cops?
- Am sorry? Is this an
interrogation? Sergeant Boatwright?
Because if so, I'm gonna need my lawyer.
- Fort is dead.
Alexis,
yeah.
The Coast guards found her floating in the
river this morning.
Now I'm gonna need you
to tell me the truth
- And you and your little
girlfriend think I killed her.
I ain't got nothing to say to you. I am
- Trying
- To help you.
No. Now you trying to help me.
You left me in this church when it was a
gun to my head.
You left me. I was scared.
- Is that what you wanted to hear?
I I I was a scared little
boy who pissed my pants.
Does that make you feel better?
- I'm sorry. I
- See you next time. See, see you
- Man.
- Thank you. You're welcome.
- Hey, hey,
minister Boatright, right?
Yeah. Yeah.
My aunt, she lost
her pocketbook here.
She's worse than me.
Always losing things that belong to her.
But she sent me to come
collect it for her.
- Oh wow. I haven't seen it.
But you are welcome to
come and check if you want.
Is that all right? Yeah. Come
on. Come on in. Thanks. Yeah.
- Hey, Peters, what you got for me?
- Maybe we should check under
the pews. I will my back. Oh,
- It's kind of, well, you might be right.
It might be not.
- I don't see.
- Hey, Carla's the son, he
headed over to the church.
So open the door for some youth
that are performing on Sunday.
You may still be over there.
Is everything all right?
- Oh, no, no, no. Everything's okay. Yeah.
Just trying to catch up with
'em, that's all. Yeah. Alright.
- All right, now.
- Thank you. Thank you very much.
Hey David, listen, I need
you to send a car over
to 4 1 4 4 Gray.
Yes. Yes. Send it over to
my God Son's church. Tony.
Sergeant Tony Boatwright.
I need you to hold him once
you're there. Hold him.
And the young lady that's
accompanying him. Alexis Miles.
Yes. Hold them both.
Do not let them leave.
- Alexis. That drop is a setup.
Manny still has the
trafficking ring floor set.
Set y'all up. Listen, they're
not expecting drugs. Come.
- Hold on. Bunny star.
I I can't, I can't hear you.
You're, you're breaking up.
Bunny. Bunny. Don't go to the drop. Look.
I, I was just calling to tell
you to leave a little early
because there's construction all on 94.
It's a setup. Don't go
to the drop floor. Set us
- Up.
So that's all I was calling to say.
- Hello, bunny. Hold on.
Don't feel lost. Hello Bunny.
- Hi, Alexis.
Or should I say Star?
Your mother always thought you turned out
to be somebody special.
Too bad she's not here to see it.
I hear through the grapevine
that you're gearing up to come see me.
That's a good 'cause I've missed you.
I I'm gonna rip your heart out.
I can't wait.
- Tony, Tony, I gotta go
to Tony.
Tony.
Tony.
- Twin.
- So,
so how I,
where you are
high the sky
so high, like
and the sky.
Twingo, twa go lit
to star how I one.
Where
- You
- Twinkle t twinkle my little star.
Willie, what you doing?
Put your gun down.
Okay. Put the gun down Star.
- Okay. Okay. Okay.
- Now kick it away please.
I've been looking all over for you
and you weren't returning
any of my phone calls.
- I'm sorry. I've been busy. Willie
- Busy, busy with him.
- No, no.
I had a family emergency. That's it.
- Your friend Kelly.
I, I'm so sorry. I heard all about that.
I'm sorry you had to go through that.
- Thank you, Willie.
- I wish I didn't have to go
through all this, you know,
but you weren't calling me back.
And that poodle, witch florist,
she would not share your address with me.
But I showed her, I showed her
sleeping with the fishes.
Oh, she's sleeping with the fishes.
I've been trying to
tell you the good news.
I bought us a house.
Oh yeah. It's right in
the middle of nowhere.
In the woods. Nice and
quiet. Just you and me.
And don't worry, I left a little bit
of money in the account
for the wife and the kids.
- That, that is so good,
Willie. Yeah. Yeah.
That is so, so good.
I got an idea.
- Okay.
- How
about you let him go?
We just let him go
and then we can talk about the house,
- Our future.
No, no, no,
no, no.
I like my plan better.
Heard about some really good stuff.
A way for us to spice it up again
so we can get back on track.
This is where it all happened, right?
With your grandmother
and your mom. Hold. Oh,
I want him to watch.
Come lay on the pallet
star.
Come lay down.
- Okay. Okay.
You're gonna take good show.
- How dare you, dare you
dare you coming to the house
of the Lord with this, this, this.
You just get outta here.
Just get outta here.
I ain't got the money. I just can't.
I just came here to ask
my mama for it, you know?
'cause you know the church be
having money up here, right?
- Fish drives on the real man.
- I, I could go get the money.
I could go get the money
for it right now. Right now.
- Hello?
- Is anybody here? Crack
hay, crack hay, crack hay.
They think that can do whatever the
hell they want. Do what Hell
- They want do.
- Take my daughter, mama. Take her.
She's still a virgin. She'll
get you a lot of money.
Take her baby.
- Let goat
You are crazy.
I crazy.
- What did you do? Get
back. Let me get back.
Stay with me. Stay with me. Tony.
Tony, baby.
I need to bus to four. 1 4, 4 Great street
immediately, baby.
No. Stay with me. Stay
with me. Stay with me.
I didn't run.
- I love you
- Alexis. I love you too. Tony.
- Thank you all for coming.
I'm Detective Thomas.
On behalf of the Detroit Police Department
and the Wayne County Prosecuting
Office, I am confident
to say that we are all elated
about the verdict today.
Manny Caro has had a long,
extensive violent receipt
over the city of Detroit
and across the state of
Michigan, including many cities
that dates back decades.
We are satisfied with the outcome
of life without the possibility of parole.
- Chastity Lewis with WJD News
after his deadly rampage decades ago,
Manny Carve was considered rehabilitated,
let out only to re-offend.
So will there be changes
to the parole process
or should we expect to be
back here again in five years?
- Our officers spoke out
fervently against the release
of Manny Caro back then,
but the parole board deemed otherwise.
Although I do believe
the committee thought
that they were making the
right decision at the time.
And I'm a firm believer that
there are many, many inmates
that deserve the fair chance
and a spot at receiving parole.
I have personally put an
inquiry in, into the evaluation
of the parole process.
- Look, the fact is we
can't go back in the past.
All we can do is make
changes moving forward.
I would like to thank
the countless detectives
for their hours of service.
The witnesses that took the
stand, and attorney Gaines
and his team for fighting
hard these past weeks
to get us the victory we have today.
One of Manny Caro's, many victims
will now give a statement.
Some of you may know her
from Caro's first trial.
We wouldn't be here
with these results today
without her brave testimony.
After her statement. There
will be no questions.
I'm sure you can respect that.
- You ready?
- Yes.
- On April 26th, 2007,
on a Thursday night, my mother
and my grandmother were
killed in front of me
and my friends by Manny Caro.
Then he took me. And
for 33 days I was
raped, beaten,
and tortured by more than 50 men
and women, including manning car
for decades.
I, I blamed myself.
I thought maybe if I didn't resist
Manny,
maybe my family would still be alive
and that my friends wouldn't have to live
with the crippling fear
that we all felt that night.
So all this time I have been hating myself
and have been expressing that hate through
drugs, liquor, sex,
and self harm.
I wanted to die,
but I learned something.
I learned something in these eight months.
I learned it through, through
therapy, through church,
through AA meetings,
and through people who genuinely love me.
I learned that you can
conquer anything with love,
that include loving myself,
thank you to everybody
who loved me, even when
I didn't love myself.
And to Tony Boatright,
thank you so much
for risking your life for me.
I have done some terrible
things in my life,
but I learned that if
I want to be forgiven,
that I must also forgive.
I forgive. I can't carry
y'all of that no more.
And I pray that Manny
Caro, while sitting in his cell,
could also ask God for forgiveness.
Thank you,
- Alexis.
- I'm so proud of you, Sasha.
I'm sorry I left
because I was just in pain.
I didn't trust you or anybody,
but I am so sorry for turning on you
and for hurting you.
- You don't need to apologize.
I'm sorry for projecting my hurt onto you.
Life just was making me so angry.
I just, I just didn't realize
how much we both needed to be loved.
I love you. I love you.
- Me, I said, all right,
now I'm gonna head on back
to the house and make
sure everything is good
before everyone starts coming over.
No, you already know me
and Sasha, we already
cleaned up the house.
Now how you gonna start going over there?
Preparing for your own retirement party?
Oh, well I hope too. I,
I wash the dishes dear.
Oh, well thank you for telling me that.
I'm gonna have to rewash all my dishes.
Damn, Carl, look, you mean
to tell me you let a
crack head wash my dishes.
I'm three months clean. You
know, ma'am, I am so proud
of you, Jasmine.
Yeah. Amen. And you know
what? I'm proud of you too.
Yep. But like I said,
y'all have two things
and Yeah, I'm gonna, yeah.
Anyway, I'm gonna go ahead and hand
and want food with and all that stuff.
I have to my shit. Stop by.
You supposed to be resting.
- I know, but I wanted to
take you somewhere special
before we head to Miss Carlos.
- But what about No, don't worry about it.
Just meet us there. Okay? Just
meet us there. I'm gonna go.
We will just meet you there.
Meet us there. Come on girls.
We gonna get outta here. See
y'all. What are y'all? See you.
- She said meet him there.
- What's up with that?
- Mm, come on.
- Okay. You just be careful, please. Okay.
I'm good. Good. You just
keep, that's just hard headed.
Be fine. What are you doing?
- I'm just come, I'm trying
to take you somewhere nice.
- I'm telling you, if you make me fall,
- How? I'm the one with the cane.
- Exactly.
- Just come on.
Just keep on coming. Come
- On another
- Nope.
Come on. I got you.
- Okay.
- Alright.
Come up right there. Okay.
- Okay.
- Okay. Take off your blindfold.
- This is for you.
- I love you. I've always
loved you since the fifth grade
and I thank God that he
brought you back into my life.
You've always been my dream,
even when I was awake.
So Alexis Miles,
roses are red, violence on blue.
And I would love spending
the rest of my life with you.
- That was so cheesy. But absolutely
- What I do
- Because I need your help.
- This ain't over
- Yet. Okay? Whoa.
Look, they can never keep me down going.
And if I ever fail the snow,
I'll go again. I never quit.
'cause I know that everybody
lost me lead to another wind.
I'm going up.
I bet when I land they gonna
tell me 'cause luck again.
See that I'm winning in his heart
of the watch, I sat in the stage.
You should keep in my
pride. You ain't got a soul.
You lacking the spirit.
You talk out your neck.
I'm gonna show you I'm with.
I'll be really happy for you
to sit and watch me win again
and win again and win again.
I know it's probably getting
on me and win a synonym.
So if I ever win a Guinness, nobody,
the minimum, I didn't have to sell soul.
Please don't play no games with me.
They was never about to fame
to me. It needed the best.
So they came to me. Who the
best in thing? Tell them me.
Tell them who fire. Say
get me. Who make it flip.
Make it bang. Get me who
make the party. Tell them
- Fluent.
Speak my right back.
With all these things I still have
I home.
I know I away. I know I living wrong.
- I gotta, I gotta
XI gotta, I gotta let them know
that I need them in my life.
I gotta from it.
I gotta from it,
I'm taking back my life.
I'm giving it to, I need them.
- Life phones been ringing.
It's my girl away. They really miss me.
Having seening.
Really wanna have, wanna
good all the time.
He wanna take me up. But I
know as song as I'm lying,
- I, I,
I it, I gotta know that I,
in my life, I gotta,
I'm giving it through
my life.
I gotta let it go.
I gotta go.
I go, I know
that I life.
I gotta let it go.
I gotta let it go.
I gotta go. I gotta let that I,
- Until there's no more.
