Devil's Tree: Rooted Evil (2018) Movie Script

(soft dramatic music)
(ominous music)
Don't forget a
journalist's job is to
uncover the truth.
Not to give his damn opinion!
Always remember that!
Class dismissed.
Why does he do that
with the yelling?
Doesn't he know he scares
the shit out of people?
I think that's why he does it.
He's good, but he's out there.
Well, when you're
the next Lisa Ling
I guess he'll take it.
Yeah, right.
Maybe.
So do we know what
story we're doin'?
No, but I'll figure it out.
Shouldn't we know by now?
Listen, have I ever let
you down in four years?
You have not.
Hmm.
Ah, all right, I gotta go.
I'm running late
for my yoga class.
Doin' yoga now?
[Samantha] Yeah,
you're always telling me
I need to relax more.
Namaste.
(soft instrumental music)
(camera clicking)
So how's Georgia?
Good.
And how's the little princess?
Oh, pre-K, how is that possible?
I should be there
right after graduation.
I know, it's CNN.
I don't think it gets any
more exciting than that.
No, I don't think I'll be working
with Anderson right away.
Yeah, well I won't be
going anywhere until
I figure out what I'm
doing this damn story
on for my thesis.
(sighing)
I know.
I miss you too, Aunt Deb.
Yeah, soon I will
see you and Miss Ava
on a regular basis.
I love you, too.
They should just go ahead
and cut it down already.
Where is this?
Oak Hammock Park,
right over there.
Oh yeah, I know
where that park is.
Deep in the woods
there's this devil's tree.
Lot of people have died there.
Sounds ominous.
Why are they deciding
whether to cut it down now?
Damn kids keep goin'
there and killin'
rabbits or some shit.
It's just not a good place.
Huh.
Interesting.
(kitten meowing)
Oh.
Hello.
Hey.
Where's your mommy?
Hey.
(kitten meowing)
(ominous music)
(kitten meowing)
Hey, listen.
You stay here, okay?
I'm gonna leave
the car on for you.
Be right back.
(ominous music)
(wind howling)
(crickets chirping)
(bird cawing)
(ominous music)
(wind howling)
(crickets chirping)
(birds cawing)
(creepy whispering)
(ominous music)
(gasping)
(twig snapping)
Excuse me, miss.
You left your car running
and there's a kitten inside.
Oh, yeah, I'm sorry.
I just wanted to
check this tree out.
Yeah, you and every kid.
What happened here?
Well, some people died here.
I don't know why the
city allows people
to come to a tree.
Personally I'd like
to see it cut down.
Has anyone died
since you worked here?
What, are you a reporter?
Well, yeah, actually
I'm studying to be.
Look, I don't
mean to sound rude.
I just don't want anything
else happening here.
So then you have.
Just don't come here alone.
Always come with a friend.
I always have mine.
Thank you.
Bye.
Bye.
(soft dramatic music)
(muffled screaming)
All right, my
little bimbolinas.
Tell me.
Which one of you has a date
with the skinning knife first?
[Girl] Not me.
Oh, then it's you.
Lucky girl.
(clothes ripping)
(muffled screaming)
It's okay.
(muffled screaming)
It's okay.
You're allowed to scream.
I'm sure this hurts.
(muffled screaming)
You, on the other hand,
haven't any reason to cry yet.
I haven't even touched you.
(muffled screaming)
(knife slicing)
There.
Now you can cry.
(laughing)
Oh, wait.
You can't.
(muffled screaming)
(soft dramatic music)
I was accused of
killing 34 women.
Come up with 34 names.
[Interviewer] What
were you convicted of?
Was convicted of killing two.
Fort Pierce.
[Newswoman] We're standing
here with Officer John Harris.
Officer, you were
one of the first to
investigate this gruesome scene.
Can you tell us anything
about what happened here?
[John] Well, all
I can say is that
we're fortunate we were
able to catch this guy,
but I'm gonna urge
people not to come out
here under any circumstances.
[Newswoman] I assume
that's because this is
an active crime scene?
[John] Well,
it's just not safe.
(soft dramatic music)
(machine sputtering)
I mean, it's not bad.
I remember hearing something
about this when I was a kid,
but I didn't know this
shit really happened.
Well, I've lived
here for 15 years
and I've never heard of it.
How'd you find the officer?
I found him online.
I have his address.
Now I just need to figure
out how to get ahold of him.
[Rob] No phone number?
Should we just go
by there tomorrow
and see if he'll talk to us?
Yeah, we could try.
(knocking)
If this guy answers the door,
are we really gonna ask
him to film his interview?
(dog barking)
(sirens wailing)
(dramatic music)
[John] Yeah, who are you?
Hello, Mr. Harris?
My name is Samantha
and this is Rob,
and we're journalism
students doing
a story on something you
investigated over 40 years ago.
The devil's tree.
Yes.
No way.
Forget it.
I didn't think he
was gonna let us.
I mean, call it a hunch,
but he doesn't
seem very friendly.
Look, I know everyone
called you crazy,
and maybe you thought you were.
I don't think so.
Come on, Sam.
What do you know
about the tree?
No cameras.
It's fine.
All right.
I thank you for talking
to us, Mr. Harris.
You can call me John.
I haven't talked about the tree
in a very long time.
Well, it means a lot.
And who better than
one of the officers
who investigated what happened.
I'm not a cop anymore.
It made sure of that.
What did?
Nobody knows the
truth about that tree.
Do you?
Help me understand.
I felt something there.
You've been to the tree?
I have.
You didn't tell me that.
Tell me.
What did you feel
when you were there?
I don't really know.
I felt like I heard
voices talking,
like I felt someone there.
Mmm.
Someone or something?
What do you mean something?
If you've been to the tree,
you shouldn't even be here.
Listen, tell me what
you're talking about.
Maybe I can help.
(door creaking)
He better not come
out there with a gun.
(soft dramatic music)
Maybe we should go.
Hold on.
(clattering)
Mr. Harris?
(door creaking)
(dramatic music)
What's this?
You said you wanted to
know about the investigation
out at the tree.
That's the film footage I
took of the crime scene.
Take it.
I'm officially off the case.
Go on.
Come on, let's go.
Holy shit, did that
dude creep me out.
What do you think he
was even talkin' about?
[Samantha] I don't
know, but I'm interested
in finding out, that's for sure.
It's cool he
gave you the film.
[Samantha] It was.
What, what's the matter?
Nothing.
I'm just thinking about
something he said.
Let's go to the park.
You got your camera?
Let's go get some footage.
(suspenseful music)
[Man] You are most prompt.
Mom, mop up.
We will speak in
one of the languages
of the earth people.
I have orders to send
you on a special mission
to the planet Earth.
(static crackling)
(skin sizzling)
(ominous music)
(gun cocking)
(gun firing)
(dramatic music)
(gun firing)
(blood trickling)
(soft dramatic music)
[Rob] Honestly, Sam.
What do you think is
going on at this tree?
[Samantha] I don't know.
But when I was here the
other day, I felt something.
Like someone was watching me.
And you know me,
I'm not like that.
And I thought I heard
people whispering.
Like they were talking
about me being here.
What do you mean
talking about you?
Like ghosts?
Like what are we
talking about here?
In the sound of
bugs I heard whispers.
Listen, I'll admit
this is interesting,
but this kind of
stuff freaks me out.
Well, can you
imagine if we're able
to really find out
what's going on here?
Isn't that how
horror movies begin?
Whoa.
Just want me to get
some B roll of the tree?
Yeah, grab some
shots of the tree alone
and then some with
me standing near it.
All right.
(leaves rustling)
What?
What is it?
Nothing, I thought
I heard something.
All right, go
stand by the tree.
If you're brave enough.
Stop.
I think all these horrific
acts happened here,
but all the folklore
around the tree
has been blown
out of proportion.
Yeah?
Tell that to old man Harris.
Uh.
Damn it.
That fuckin' hurt.
[Samantha] Oh my
God, are you okay?
Yeah.
Just hope the camera's okay.
Oh, thank God.
How did you fall?
I don't know.
I couldn't see
where I was goin'.
Look, can we get out of here?
It's gettin' dark.
Yeah, we can go.
You sure you're okay?
Yeah, I'm fine.
I just wanna get
out of these woods.
(ominous music)
(water running)
(clock ticking)
(dramatic music)
(door creaking)
(dramatic music)
Denzel?
Can you do me a huge favor
and convert this for me?
Thank you.
(suspenseful music)
[Samantha] I believe
all these horrific
acts happened here, but
I think all the folklore
around the tree has been
blown out of proportion.
Yeah?
(suspenseful music)
Yeah, I'm fine.
I just hope the camera's okay.
Oh, thank God.
(suspenseful music)
Yeah, I'm fine.
Wait.
(suspenseful music)
Wait a minute.
(suspenseful music)
What the fuck?
Oh my God, this can't be.
(camera clicking)
Show me yours first.
(gasping)
Oh my God, look!
It's him!
And you can't see
it in this picture,
but it even has the same
black spot on the tree.
How is this possible?
I mean, look at the detail.
You can see his face,
his clothes, everything.
Looks like he's from the
'40s or '50s or something.
I mean clearly it's
the same kid, but how?
And what is that black
spot on the tree?
I don't know.
Maybe the tree is cursed?
The kid's a ghost
probably trapped there?
I mean, what other
explanation is there?
Like Professor Simon says,
it's our job to find the
truth, not our opinion.
Well, it's my
opinion that the truth
is that there's something
evil at that tree.
I mean, look at my arm.
Can you explain this?
What happened to your arm?
From when you fell?
What does it look like to you?
A bullseye.
Does it hurt?
Not really, but
it's getting worse.
And I think old man
Harris has a scar
on his arm, too.
What, now you have
the same scar as him?
I can't believe
I'm sayin' this,
but I think we need to
go back and talk to him.
I agree.
None of this is
making sense to me.
He died?
What?
You've got to be kidding me.
Does it say how?
No, no it doesn't.
Excuse me, ma'am.
Do you know what
happened to Mr. Harris?
Yeah.
He blew his head off.
Cops have been
here for two days.
Weren't you guys
here the other day?
Yeah.
We're just journalists
working on a story.
Thank you.
[Samantha] There has
to be something here
about a missing boy
from the '40s or '50s
in this area.
You think you're gonna
find out who this boy is?
This is crazy.
If you want to
look something up,
look up what this mark means.
Look, there has
to be an explanation
for all of this.
Even your bullseye, which
I'll admit is pretty weird.
Wait, look at this.
The bullseye symbol has
appeared on people in the past
and has been associated
with the devil.
Some have received the mark
and not too shortly
died or were killed?
Oh my God, Rob.
Look!
It's him!
Holy shit!
How?
Told you I'd find something.
Benjamin Munson, age eight,
disappeared walking home
from school on October 15th.
A neighborhood
search was conducted
in the area for three
days before the search
was called off.
Fears that something
more sinister happened,
as his body was never recovered.
But certain items
of his were found
along the road where
he was believed
to have been abducted.
Rob, I think he was
killed at the tree.
I don't know what to say.
I think you're right.
What if you're right
and something evil
is there and has
trapped all the victims
of those who've been murdered?
I need to eat.
You hungry?
You have to see this.
All these kids and
other people have gone
to the tree and filmed it.
[Rob] Yeah?
What are they doing
in the videos?
[Samantha] Mostly
just playing around.
Where there was a
double homicide in 1971
from Gerard Shaefer.
We've been dared to spend
the night here, the night.
(laughing)
The girl was tied
up right here, man.
Right here.
Hey, now that we
know who the kid is,
I'd like to try and
communicate with him.
I feel like that's what
I felt when I was there.
You know, Sam.
When I chose to become
a cameraman journalist,
I kind of pictured
myself scalin' a volcano
with Nat Geo or possibly
covering a third world country.
I didn't think I'd
be summoning spirits
and playing Shaggy and Scooby.
Oh, nice.
Are you calling me a dog now?
No, I just,
I don't know how I
feel about all this.
That's all.
Well, think of it as
uncovering the truth.
When I was at my yoga
studio the other day,
there was a sign up that
said learn to speak spirit.
(ominous music)
Like those people could maybe
help us with that, you know?
Hey, are you listening?
Yeah, I heard you.
Ooh, this looks good.
[Rob] Uh-huh.
Maybe you should become a chef
instead of a cameraman.
You know, stick with
what you're good at.
Screw you.
What else you find?
Well, it looks
like in the '90s
there was a girl who was abducted
along with her boyfriend.
Yeah, and?
Seems that they
were apparently used
in some type of satanic ritual
and somehow she
was forced to watch
her boyfriend get
brutally murdered.
What are you doin'?
I'm looking her up.
See if I can find her like
I found Officer Harris.
(ominous music)
Found her!
Damn, I'm good.
(sighing)
Hey, maybe you should go
talk to her by yourself.
You probably won't need
a cameraman for this one.
You okay?
You're not givin'
up on me, are you?
No, just tired.
I'm gonna get some rest.
You go.
Okay.
Hey, thanks for lunch.
Next time I'll make it.
You make lunch?
I don't know.
Wow, really?
Call me when you're done.
Okay.
(sighing)
(dog barking in background)
(knocking)
Who are you?
And what do you want?
Hello, ma'am.
My name is Samantha.
I'm an investigative
reporter looking to
talk to Natalie.
About what?
About what happened in
those woods 20 years ago.
We talked to all the
people we needed to talk to.
That was a long time ago.
You're right, you're right.
I'm sorry.
What was your name again?
(sighing)
Darcy.
She's not right, either,
so I'm afraid talkin' to
her won't do you any good.
Well, if I understand
it correctly,
many of the people
involved were never caught.
This report could
lead to closure,
possibly arrests.
You got five minutes.
That's it.
Five minutes.
Thank you.
I think it will really help.
[Darcy] Natalie?
We got company.
Come on in.
(groaning)
[Samantha] Oh, sorry.
Natalie?
This is someone who wants...
Samantha.
This is Samantha.
She wanted to come by
and visit with you.
She's never been the same since.
I hate asking, but
would you be okay
telling me what
happened that night?
She was 17.
Seeing this boy down the street.
To me she was still my baby,
but can't tell a
17-year-old nothin'.
They had went to
the park that night,
where they sat in his truck.
(chuckles)
I'm sure you can figure
out what they were doin'.
That was the moment
everything changed.
When are we gonna be
able to go to your house?
Why do you want
to go to my house?
We always talk about it.
We always talk about
meeting your parents,
always talk ab...
(gasping)
(dramatic music)
They dragged him to that tree
where more of 'em were waitin'.
All in black.
(whimpering)
Like real-life demons.
She was stripped down.
They tied her to
stakes in the ground.
Can you imagine?
(crying)
Apparently they tied
her boyfriend to
some sort of a rack
directly on top of her.
What they did to that poor kid.
Oh my God.
They cut him open
like some animal.
Let him bleed out
onto my baby girl.
(screaming)
What kind of monsters
would do such a thing?
What they did next to her
is nothing short of horrific.
As she lay covered in
this poor kid's blood,
naked,
tied to the ground.
She was then...
(screaming)
Can't even say.
(screaming)
They left her with this
wonderful reminder.
How was she found?
They wrapped her
in a blanket and
dumped her near the parkin' lot.
The park ranger found
her in the mornin'.
When the police went back
to the tree to investigate,
there were no
traces of anything.
Was she immediately like this?
Unable to talk or interact?
No, not immediately.
Slowly over time,
she became more despondent.
She went through all
types of therapies,
but nothin' worked.
I have to ask
you this question,
and it may sound weird but,
did she ever mention
a little boy?
No.
No, she didn't.
Why?
He needed help.
But nobody could help 'em.
Who did, honey?
This boy she's askin' about?
Nobody could help 'em.
(soft dramatic music)
(kitten meowing)
Hey.
Hi.
Watcha doin'?
(water running)
(dramatic music)
(creepy ominous music)
(gasping)
(soft dramatic music)
(metal clattering)
(dramatic music)
Natalie?
What are you doin' up?
What is that?
(knife slicing)
(blood gurgling)
(gasping)
(knife slicing)
(dramatic music)
(body thudding)
(dramatic music)
(blood gurgling)
(soft dramatic music)
Hey!
(soft dramatic music)
Hey!
(growling)
(dramatic music)
(phone ringing)
[Samantha] Hey,
how you feelin'?
You get any rest last night?
[Rob] Not exactly.
[Samantha] What's the matter?
[Rob] I can't work on
the story anymore, Sam.
Why?
What happened?
[Rob] Last night I
had a terrible dream
and I think it was
whatever's at that tree.
I saw the boy and
some kind of demon.
[Samantha] In your dream?
[Rob] Like I knew
it was a dream,
but somethin' was different,
like it was real
at the same time.
Regardless, I can't
do this story anymore.
It's affecting me too much.
Wait, wait, wait, hold on.
Wait, I know some weird
shit has been happening,
but don't you think it
was just a bad dream?
I have bad dreams all the time.
[Rob] Not like this.
Sam, listen.
I'm sorry.
I gotta go.
(phone beeping)
(soft dramatic music)
Well, the professor says
it's my job to find the truth.
[Man] Hello,
this is Paranormal.
Hi, yes.
My name is Samantha.
Where are you guys located?
[Man] We're
based out of Miami.
Is Port St. Lucie too far?
[Man] Yeah, it just
depends on the case, though.
What's goin' on?
You Samantha?
Jason?
Well, duh, of course it's you.
You ready?
I am.
Just want to thank
you again for coming
on such short notice.
I feel like that was a
really far drive for you.
[Jason] No, it wasn't too bad.
[Samantha] Now you don't
charge people to do this?
[Jason] Nope.
So how are you able
to do this type of work
if you don't get paid?
We all have regular jobs.
We just do this
because we love it
and we want to know the truth.
And we love to help people.
Huh.
Interesting.
Well, this is it.
What do we do now?
[Jason] I'm gonna pull
out one of my meters
and see if there are any spikes,
and I'll also run one
of the ghost boxes
at the same time and see if
anyone can tell us anything.
[Samantha] Okay.
Now you said that you've
captured a little boy
here on camera, right?
Yes, twice.
And also some sort of
black mist on the tree.
Yeah, I'm gonna wanna
take a look at that footage,
if that's possible.
Yeah, sure.
I mean, what do you
think is happening here
based on what I've told you
we've been able to find?
Honestly, I don't know.
But based on what
you've told me,
I'd say some very bad
stuff has happened here.
Over the years with
each happening,
the air's just accumulated
more and more bad energy.
It's almost as if
something or someone
is holding the spirits here
and it's very possible.
Hello.
My name is Jason.
I come as a friend.
Is there anyone who's here
that would like to speak to me?
(static crackling)
I come out of respect and love.
Who's here?
(static crackling)
It may help if you say
something, Samantha.
Sometimes they respond
to different people.
What should I say?
Just ask for someone
to come through.
You said you know
this boy, right?
Ask for him.
Um, there's a boy here
named Benjamin, I believe?
Can I speak to him?
(child talking indiscernibly)
Oh my God, that
sounded like a child.
Yeah, yeah.
And the closer I'm
getting to this tree,
this meter is going up.
That means there's a lot of
electromagnetic energy here.
Look.
Keep going, keep going.
Keep talking.
I think we can hear you.
Can you say something else?
[Benjamin] Samantha.
Yes, I'm here.
I can hear you.
(growling)
Sounds like the boy is here,
but there's definitely something
very nasty here as well.
Did you hear that?
Yeah, let's head
back to the cars.
So I'll head back and talk
to the rest of my team.
I'll give you a call
later and let you know
what night we can come back.
Well, do you think
it's some kind of demon?
I don't like to say
until I know more.
When I come back I'll have
a very powerful medium
and more of my gear.
But yes, it very well
could be a demonic entity.
Let me ask you, what else has
happened regarding this tree
and why are you so
attached to this?
I don't know.
Huh, okay.
Honest answer.
All right, we'll talk soon.
Okay.
Hey, listen.
Whatever it is, I'm
sure it's not something
we haven't dealt with before.
Okay.
(engine starting)
(dramatic music)
(knocking)
[Rob] What, Sam?
You're not
answering your phone.
Let me in.
(sighing)
Hey, man, talk to me.
I really don't
know what to say.
I'm questioning everything
in my life right now.
This tree thing has
been really weird.
I have no idea what
that dream was about.
And why the hell do I
have this mark on my arm?
Listen, I don't blame you.
This whole thing is nuts.
Not to mention the
story's pretty much fucked
and all I want to
know is what the hell
is happening at that damn tree.
(sighing)
I just feel terrible I got
you involved in all this.
No, don't.
It's just (sighing),
last night was so real.
It was like I was there.
And honestly, do you think
that old man killing himself
was just a coincidence?
(sighing)
Did you go see that survivor
of that satanic shit?
Yeah.
Her mom told me the
story of what happened.
The girl really couldn't talk.
It was horrifying.
This just keeps gettin' worse.
I mean, what?
Did Satan plant
the tree himself?
What the fuck?
Hey, listen.
Today after talking to you,
I contacted this paranormal team
and this guy drove up from
Miami and met me at the tree.
Today?
[Samantha] Yeah.
Well, what happened?
It was just me and him
and he brought a few
pieces of equipment
and we tried communicating
with whatever's there.
I can't believe you.
Did anything communicate
with you guys?
We think we heard the boy.
Anything else?
Not really.
What's not really?
Either you did or you didn't.
Well, I mean there was
a sound that came through,
but we really couldn't
make out what it was.
What kind of sound?
A grumble.
You mean a growl!
Probably the same one I
heard in my dream last night.
What did the paranormal guy say?
He agreed to talk to his
team and come back and help.
He said he'd probably be
up in the next day or so.
Listen, you don't have
to do anything anymore.
I'm sorry I got you
mixed up in all this.
The town is right.
They need to cut down that tree!
Maybe they should.
Just not before I
go back there again.
I hope these guys can help.
Anyways, I'm gonna go home.
I, ah...
I need to pack and stuff.
Call me if you need me.
Hey.
[Samantha] Yeah?
Just let me know when
those guys call you back.
No, Rob, you don't have to.
It's fine.
No, I want to.
Just let me know
when they're comin'.
I will.
How do you explain the
rise in the alternate press?
Who are they speaking to?
You?
Someone in Oklahoma?
Someone you trust?
(phone ringing)
Hey, Jason.
Okay, yeah.
Tomorrow, 6:00pm?
Okay, thanks.
Bye.
(phone ringing)
[Rob] Hey.
[Samantha] He called.
He and his team
will be at the park
tomorrow at 6:00pm.
Okay, I'll be there.
(dramatic music)
[Jason] All right, we're here.
Ready to do this?
I think so.
We're all set, right?
We are.
Hey, I'm Jason.
[Rob] Hey man, Rob.
Good to meet you.
[Rob] Yeah.
Guys, this is Gloria.
She's our medium.
She'll be hopefully
communicating with
whoever's at this location.
And this is Kevin.
He's our tech specialist.
Pretty much our gear expert.
Hi.
Guys, this is
Samantha and Rob.
All right, we ready go in?
[Samantha] Let's do it.
Shall we?
All right, Kevin, when
we get to the tree,
let's set up the full
spectrum along with
the SLSX cam, okay?
And let's see if we can
capture anything visually.
Was getting full EMS
spikes off the tree.
You got it.
Should I set up a thermal?
Yeah, I think you should.
And Gloria, see what
you feel at first,
but keep it to yourself, okay?
I want to try to use some
of the equipment to start.
No problem.
I can tell you right now
there are a lot of eyes on us.
What, right now?
Yeah, I can't tell
who they are yet,
but they're watching us.
I think it's just up
this way a little bit.
Right, Samantha?
Yeah, up the path
just a little further.
Where did you find
these guys again?
(soft dramatic music)
Sam.
Remember what we heard
through the box the other day?
The growl?
[Samantha] Yeah.
I know that was
alarming to you,
but try and check your
fear when we're doing this.
So if you are scared,
which is normal,
negative entities
feed off of it.
Gives them power.
[Samantha] Makes sense.
I think that's a little
easier said than done, though.
I, I know it is,
but it's important.
All right, I got my handheld
and sticks over there
in case I need it.
Oh, that's pretty cool.
Let me see.
Wonder if I can get
that in night vision.
Nice.
All right, we're
all set here, Jason.
Just need to format
one of the SD cards,
but that should only
take a few minutes.
Okay, well let's all have
a seat around the lantern
and we'll get ready to begin.
It's scary as fuck
out here at night.
I know, but try
and not be scared.
Can't believe I'm out here.
I'm glad you came.
Okay, so let's just
do a quick prayer.
Great spirit in the sky,
we ask for your
care and protection,
and for you to allow us
to be effective tonight
in finding out whatever
it is we need to.
Amen.
[All] Amen.
Jason, I'm just curious.
I never asked you.
What's the craziest
case you've ever had?
There's always one
that sticks out to me.
The Marine.
Absolutely.
What happened with the Marine?
Ah, we still have a few
minutes on that SD card?
We were called to the
home of a US Marine sniper
who had just gotten
back from Afghanistan,
something like his
third tour or something.
And he couldn't have
been a nicer guy,
but when we got
there he told us why
he was so freaked out.
The night before he woke up,
went to his kitchen
to get a drink,
he noticed all of his
dining room chairs
just stacked up one by
one by the front door.
So I asked him if he
suffered from PTSD
or was taking any medications.
I mean, I wasn't trying
to be disrespectful,
but these kinds of
things we need to know.
So he said he wasn't, so
we decided to proceed.
We conducted a walkthrough
and had Gloria tap in to
see what she could pick up.
A foreign man came through.
His name was Abdul.
He proceeded to tell
us that there were
six other spirits there,
all Afghan soldiers that
were killed by our Marine.
I asked them what their
purpose there was.
They said they intended
on exacting revenge
from the soldier for
taking their lives.
I asked them how they
planned to do it.
And they said that
they're gonna drive
the soldier insane
to the point that he
would commit suicide.
It was at that point a loud
voice came over the box
and screamed,
"Death to you all."
From there we decided
to do a full cleanse,
but ah, it wasn't easy.
And we were there all night.
We had our bodies scratched.
Gloria got unbelievably sick.
And all of our equipment
was malfunctioning,
but somehow we pulled through
and hours later we were
able to cleanse the home.
Wow, that is insane.
Was the Marine okay?
Okay? (chuckles)
He slept like a baby that night.
I mean, don't get me wrong.
We've dealt with
pure evil before,
and some people
change from one minute
to the next, almost possessed,
but the spirits of these six men
were so determined
to kill this man that
they might've succeeded.
Okay, we're all set.
Looks like we already
got something.
[Jason] What's showin' up?
It's gone already,
but looked almost like
a small figure behind the tree.
What, like hiding behind it?
Yeah, I guess
you could say that.
And according to this,
we seem to be surrounded
by multiple entities.
Turn on the geobox, Kev.
Gloria, are you
feelin' anything?
I feel something.
I'm just not sure what.
It's almost as if it
doesn't want me to see it.
Who's out here with us?
We see you coming
through the camera.
You say anything
through the box,
just to identify yourself.
(whispering)
I'm hearing noises out there.
Me, too.
Talk to me, it's okay.
We're here to find
out the truth.
Who are you?
(people talking)
(static crackling)
[Boy] Benjamin.
Did you hear that?
He said Benjamin.
That's the boy.
Right, Sam?
There's still multiple
entities on that radar?
They're disappearing
one by one.
And their apparently
is a red dot.
What's a red dot.
A lower vibrational entity.
Something more
powerful and sinister,
like a demon.
Gloria, can you try to
connect with the boy?
Absolutely.
What was his name again?
Benjamin.
We'd like to talk
to Benjamin if we can.
He's here.
He's adorable.
He's seven or eight.
He was eight, yes.
Well, Sam, would you
like to talk to him?
I'm sure he'll answer you.
Yes, I can.
Benjamin, can you hear me?
So I'm just, I'm
just gonna go deeper.
Just let him talk through me.
Yes, I'm here.
I can hear you.
Hello, Samantha.
Hello, Benjamin.
Can I ask you a
question, Benjamin?
Who else is out here with you?
I'd like to talk to
Samantha, if you don't mind.
(chuckles)
No problem.
I don't blame you.
Benjamin, are you out
here all by yourself?
No, there are others.
Is there anything
we can do to help you?
No, no one can help me now.
I'm, I'm losing the connection.
Keep talking to him.
Benjamin, can you hear me?
Yes, I'm here.
It's happening again.
I, I feel a disconnect.
It can happen if there's
something else here
restricting the energy.
Benjamin, I don't
know if you heard me,
but I was wondering
if you could share
what happened to you.
Yes, Samantha,
I will tell you.
I was the first one here.
I was a child.
I was the first
victim at this tree.
I was not brought
here by choice.
A man took me from my school.
I was tricked.
He pulled me into the woods.
He told me to act like a dog.
I couldn't defend myself
and no one was here to help me.
I died of a heart
attack eventually.
I could not bear anymore pain.
Did they ever find your body?
My body was destroyed
and thrown elsewhere.
I came back here because
this is where I died.
Now I am here with many.
I am not the oldest by far.
But I am the most powerful.
(whispering)
That's why
I'm the leader.
You see, Samantha.
It isn't the tree.
It's me.
What are we doing, Sam?
I don't know.
What the hell is happening?
Look, man.
What is that all around her?
[Samantha] Why
would you do this?
I was wronged.
And I will get God back.
He is a heartless God.
And I will bring
pain and suffering
to as many people as I can.
And I'm good at it.
(dramatic music)
(gasping)
Oh my God.
Pack up the stuff quick.
We're gettin' out of here.
We gotta get her to a hospital.
(soft dramatic music)
Guys, let's go.
We can't wait for you.
Be right there, believe me!
All right, Sam.
They're halfway to the
parking lot by now.
[Samantha] This
wasn't your fault.
Sam, what are you doing?
I know you were a good kid.
You have to let this go.
What the hell are you doing?
It's demonic!
You're trying to reason with it?
I can feel his pain.
I want to help him.
I know I can help him.
This is nuts!
Benjamin.
Listen to me.
I know you can hear me.
You're hurting innocent
people like you and I were.
My father used to
come into my room
when my mother worked late.
I would run and hide and
he would make it a game.
Hide and seek.
I would hide in the closet,
but I knew he would find me.
But I was young
and I didn't know
where I could go,
what I could do.
And when he'd find me,
he would toy with me
and not open the
door right away.
And I would just try
to escape that place.
Try to escape into
another moment.
Samantha, I can't
say this again.
We have to go now.
Benjamin, you don't
have to do this anymore.
You can let this go
and forgive the man
that did this to you.
I know that God has
already forgiven you
for what you've done.
(dramatic music)
[Benjamin] I don't
need God's forgiveness.
He needs mine.
Benjamin.
I just want to help you.
I told you no one
can help you now.
Rob, what are you doing?
Rob's no longer
here, Samantha.
(slap smacking)
I bring bad things here.
This is my intention.
I was not powerful
when I was alive,
but here, I am powerful.
Not over me you don't!
(grunting)
Let's change that.
No! Stop!
[Rob/Benjamin] Let's
expose you for who
you really are, Samantha.
You liked it when
your father did
those things to you, didn't you?
Rob!
Can you hear me?
You are stronger than this!
Rob!
That's the word
of a little girl.
I told you Rob is gone.
I think it's time for you
to join me here at the tree.
I liked you.
(grunting)
(gasping)
(screaming)
(dramatic music)
(blood spurting)
(crying)
(screaming)
Oh my God!
Oh my God, Rob!
I'm so sorry!
(sobbing)
(blood trickling)
I'm sorry.
(sobbing)
You have the power to
do all these bad things?
Do them to me yourself!
(dramatic music)
Oh my God.
(dramatic music)
Boy, I order you
right now to release her
in the name of Jesus Christ.
You know you can't touch me!
Release her now!
(soft dramatic music)
Here you go, sweetie.
Thank you.
Can't believe how
big she's gotten.
I know!
I don't know where
the time goes.
It seems like it
was just last year
we were living in Florida,
Steven was looking for a job.
I blink my eyes and here we are.
You just never know where
life is gonna take you.
You're not kidding.
How are you doing
with everything, Sam?
I just can't believe
that I'm alive.
And I think that it should've
been me instead of him.
I'm learning to
live with the guilt.
I know there was
nothing I could do.
I just don't understand it.
I can't imagine what
you're going through.
But I do know that you
are one strong woman.
Don't you forget that.
Thank you.
I just don't feel
that strong sometimes.
Well, you are.
I've always known
that about you.
So?
How's the job?
It just started and it's hard.
(laughing)
But it's amazing.
That is so great.
I'm so happy you're here.
And now you're closer so
we'll get to see you more.
How are you doin'
over there, sweetie?
[Ava] Good, Mommy.
Are you thirsty?
[Ava] No, Mommy.
Let me go play
with her for a bit.
(soft dramatic music)
Gotcha! (laughing)
Watcha doin'?
Playing.
Oh yeah?
Can I play too?
Sure, sit down.
(dramatic music)
Why did you draw
that design, sweetie?
I didn't draw that, silly.
My friend did.
What's your friend's name?
[Ava] Benjamin.
(crickets chirping)
(ominous music)
(soft dramatic music)
I am
the first one here
that got
abused here.
And I was here
not by choice.
[Woman] Right.
Someone brought you here.
Yes.
I was tricked
and he
was
extremely sick.
We are able to influence
people that come here
to do bad things
and this is what we want.
A lot of us are coming
after you right now.
We are fierce.
(eerie dramatic music)
