Didn't Die (2025) Movie Script
1
Wasn't worth it.
I thought we had enough gas.
It's alright,
we have a few hours left.
It's not about the gas,
your mom takes
zero precautions
and then she throws us
a surprise party.
For the baby!
She was sad that we didn't get
to do something for her
when she was born.
Oh, I remember
she was very mad at me,
but we had a newborn
and your mom's house
is not secure at all.
What?
-What do--
-Nothing.
No. Go ahead, say it.
-No, I.
-You think I'm paranoid.
I think we're all paranoid.
I'm paranoid.
It's totally understandable.
Okay?
We survived.
We're fine,
it's daylight, look.
Just in case.
Feel better?
Yeah, I really do.
Good.
Good.
All right.
Look at this.
This looks promising.
All right, I'll check
the cars maybe uh.
check over there for supplies,
knives, bullets, guns.
Yeah 'cuz people just leave that
stuff lying around these days.
Okay, here we go, oh God,
should'a got an electric car.
Oh. Nothing here.
It's okay.
Yeah. There's nothing
really over here either.
All right.
This guy.
Wow.
Bob, we need to hurry.
Oh! Ugh.
Come on.
Okay.
Wow! Look at this.
More cars!
All right, uhh.
How 'bout get that one,
and I'll start over here.
Okay.
Okay?
Go team!
Go team.
Go, team!
Oh! Look at that!
Yeah?
Woo! Finally some luck.
Oh sorry.
Did I wake you up?
All right!
We're gonna go home!
Janet!
Janet!
Hello Didn't Die!
Hello listeners
of the Didn't Die podcast
this is our 100th episode,
one hundo!
We did it!
Uh, we. we survived.
It's me, your host, Vinita.
It is your host,
Vinita Malhotra.
I'm back in my hometown
after traveling the country
with all of you and meeting you.
If you're here,
come to the courthouse tomorrow.
Warm bodies only.
Biters stay outside.
Wish you were listeners,
honestly.
And.
and thank you, for listening.
You've made it.
you've made it worth it
that uh.that we didn't die.
Oh!
I saw one. A biter. A biter!
-A biter. A biter.
-Okay, relax, relax.
You realize
what that means right?
I'm here. I'm here.
Biters during the day.
Biters during the day.
You see it?
You see it, right?
I don't see it.
What do you mean?
It was chasing me.
It was behind--
he was behind me.
I believe you, but you musta
outrun him or something.
I mean, you took care of it,
right?
Yeah.
-Well then you outran him.
-Yeah, yeah.
There's no biter.
Okay. Okay.
You're good.
Come on, kid.
You're good.
You got this Rish.
-you're good.
-Yeah, yeah.
Look.
I drew a dick
on the thing for the 100th.
Did you see it? It's funny.
Yeah.
You're a regular Picasso.
Yeah.
You good?
- Yeah.
- Here, give me half.
Should we do the street?
- Sure.
- Yeah?
Yeah.
Can you do the clip?
Clip?
That was a good one
that's high!
And don't mention
the biter to Barbara.
We don't need her freaking out.
Jesus, Barbara.
We live here.
This is our childhood home.
Hey, it's her home now, too.
All right?
Thanks, Hare-Bear.
-I think we're good.
-Okay.
Malhotra family in the house!
- All right, all right.
- What's up?
- All right.
- Come on in.
- Shoes off!
It's cute right?
Welcome home little man!
It's good to be back.
So what happened?
You guys were, like, supposed
to be here two hours ago?
Everything okay?
You good V?
Yeah. Yeah.
We just uh,
just got a little distracted.
Yeah! We're okay.
-Um.
-Yeah.
-We're fine.
-No.
No, things aren't just fine.
I just got attacked.
I saw a biter during the day.
- No way.
- No, really.
Okay, that's--
That's impossible.
-And your beard is
getting way too long.
-Okay, okay. But.
-.we need to find you a razor.
You hungry?
We made dosas, your favorite.
V? Dosas?. Let's do this.
Okay. Okay, but one biter
could mean more biters.
And more biters could mean like,
thousands of biters.
Barbara you need
to chill the fuck out.
It was one biter.
And the only person
who saw it was Rish.
Of course he did.
And he took care of it.
Okay, okay, but are you guys
done with that
traveling podcast thing?
I mean, it would be really great
to have you around.
I mean,
you've done 100 episodes.
Is there anyone else
around town?
Yeah, people are starting
to gather out there,
but we're managing just fine
just the two of us.
-Yeah.
-Gross!
I love this. Shut up!
Wait. So-so you two
don't talk to anyone else?
Well.
You see what I'm saying Rish?
That's why what we do
is important.
Because people like them
are just being all hermitage.
Yo the Montana episode,
though?
-I love that.
-Do you Stan?
-I've been listening to it.
-I'm serious.
Hey, come on, little sis.
Um, but that mayor interview,
went on just like.
I just felt like
it was a little long.
Wait, are you giving me notes?
It was a little long!
I'm gonna tell you.
Here.
Thank you.
It's very good.
Yeah. You like it?
You're a good cook,
I forget this about you.
Who knows? You know?
So tell me what the hell
happened out there.
Look, you know how Vinita said
we were late?
It's 'cuz she parked the car,
like, three miles away from me.
So I had to cut
through the cemetery
to get back and so--
Where's Bobby? Bobby!
Hey, come here.
Is he an Indian dog?
Does he understand Hindi?
I mean, of course,
just as well as, you know,
Rish does.
.fast, right,
so you know, I, I--
So I'm just walking around
the 50,000 little flyers
that she gave me
and I'm going through
and then I hear this noise,
and I just look up this hill,
and, and there he is.
It's so good
to have you guys here.
It's basically
the same except
for that one shiny headband.
Hey, V, take it easy,
all right?
Mmhmm.
I haven't felt-- I haven't
felt that scared since.
-Well, well.
-Oh, yeah.
You know, you know.
with Mom and Dad.
Yeah.
Okay.
Can I make you some chai tea?
Rish said that uhm,
he saw a biter.
For those of you
who aren't um, familiar,
that's my, my baby brother.
You may have heard him
on the podcast every so often.
He's my uh.
my ride or die. Um.
little baby. baby buddy
who uh, exaggerates sometimes.
Sometimes you want somebody
that you love
to really be wrong.
I hope he's wrong.
It's okay.
.we've been having
an incredible time
just traveling
the eastern territories.
This is me, your host, Vinita,
and I'm beyond thrilled to say
that we are, uh, turning 100.
We're turning 100, you guys.
We're back in town.
And, and listen,
we have had, like,
so many amazing moments
and so many amazing episodes
with so many of you
and now
as we're approaching this,
this final live recording
after having not seen
people for so long.
And I-- I do wonder if anyone
that I used to know made it.
That used to me being famous,
but now it just
means being here.
So this is just a friendly
reminder out there to each
and every one of you
to stay alert,
especially at night
when biters feed.
You know this,
but aim for the brain,
that is right,
we are back to the classics.
And you guys know
the official recommendation
and the most important rule:
kill to avoid further spread.
Now, I know not
everyone can follow that one.
It is very difficult
to do the killing.
Uh, especially when
it's someone you love.
So if it is,
just try and think
of someone you hate.
Because I know
we've all had to do it. Um.
become killers.
I always thought
that would be chic,
but not so much.
I do have a few exes
that I wouldn't mind
stabbing a machete
through their hearts.
Um.
One of the things that
I'm personally finding
hardest to do is, uh,
just not creeping back
into memories
past and not racing towards
this perfect future
where everything's better.
Which, to be clear
for me at least,
would be a much hornier future.
Trish?
Kidding.
Nobody told me
that the apocalypse
was gonna be so boring!
Damn.
I guess
I imagined something hornier.
It's like less biters,
more orgies.
Am I right?
We are, uh, turning 100.
We're turning 100, you guys.
And I just want to say,
it has been so inspiring
to see how many people
have adapted and grown.
I mean, wow, the food co-ops,
the battery mills?
Guys shout out--
oh shout out to
Jerry in Pittsburgh
he really came through
for us with our Tesla
and charging,
thank you so much brother.
So I've just
got back to town,
and I have had
a chance to hang out
with my oldest brother,
who I absolutely adore
of course, Hari and his wife,
who is also there, Barbara.
Um, alive. She made it.
She, she did make it.
Uh. you don't get to pick
the people who make it,
but it's good that
they are there.
But, gosh, you guys,
they have not left
my childhood home.
They're in that
self-imposed quarantine
shut-in-vibe moment.
When it started,
it's like Hari bought out
all the grocery stores
and filled the basement
with booze and lentils
and rice.
They just want to stay home
they're worried
it's gonna get worse.
Everyone's gonna do it
their own way, I guess.
It, it takes all types.
I can survive
and I will survive.
You know, I really
thought I would be ripped
if I was going to be
in a doomsday situation.
You know, it's like
I can't even do a push up.
Isn't it crazy to be
back here?
I don't know,
it's kind of nice.
I don't know,
I'm a little excited
to get back on the road Barbara.
She's not really that bad.
She bedazzled
everything she owns.
Okay, well.
That-that I will give you.
It's very shiny.
I'm surprised Bobby
hasn't been bedazzled.
I mean, the fact that
this woman decided
to have a Hindu wedding
with an open flame in July
so all her guests
were just dripping
in the heat is just
unfathomable, like, selfish.
All right, let's go.
You should
wear the other jacket.
Really?
Okay.
Hey, we got this.
-Ba!
-Ba!
Are you going to help me?
No. I'm gonna
eat this cake, though.
I think we've done
a lot of good.
You know?
Don't say I didn't help.
Can't say I didn't help.
That's a fan.
-You see?
-Okay, okay.
Hey, sometimes
you have a good idea.
What?
Oh-kay.
You you see
how it's light outside?
-And that is in here?
-Yeah, I get it.
-Yeah, yeah.
-He's barely awake.
Okay? I don't need
you to say it. It's fine.
People are going to be
here in, like, five minutes.
Why don't you take this one?
-Look he's--
-Excuse me?
-I'm fine.
-You got this!
-I'm fine!
-You're powerful, you're brave.
-You're strong!
-No, no, no, no, no.
Come on. Go, go, go,
go, go, go.
No, no.
I'm good, I'm good, I'm good.
-You sure?
-Yeah, yeah.
I'll do the next one, though.
I'll do the next one.
You gotta get used to this.
-Yeah, yeah, I'm used it.
-Two years deep.
No no, I'm used to it.
It's my back, you know.
Um, the next one.
You are at
the Didn't Die podcast,
the 100th episode today,
and I'm just so excited
to have you all.
How are we surviving, guys?
How are we doing?
Great, uh.
my brother, um, Rish and I
are-- are from this town,
and we're just
so excited to be here
seeing your beautiful faces
and celebrating
with all of you.
And I just wanted to-to take
a moment and just connect
with you guys
and connect as to
what you've been up to and,
and maybe just share a moment
that would be a--
a spark of why you came or,
or just a moment of, of light.
Anyone?
I'll share.
Great. Yeah.
I had to kill my wife, I had
to-she turned into a biter,
so I had to kill my wife.
Then uh, then I had to kill my--
I had to kill my dad.
My dad turned into a biter,
so I had to kill my dad.
Then I had to--
I had to kill my mom
cuz' my mom turned into a biter.
I got really, really lonely,
and I thought about
killing myself,
but I-I ran out of bullets
like, a long time ago.
-Yeah.
-And then I saw the flier.
and my mom used to
always say, just like,
you gotta like,
you gotta vocalize,
what's going on
just get outside of your head
by saying it out loud.
And, so I came out here,
so, so thank you, thank you,
thank you everyone, thank you.
So.
Thank you, thank you
so much for sharing that.
And I'm glad to see that
the fliers made a difference.
Um, does anyone else have
something that they-- um yeah?
Oh, great. Great.
Yeah, absolutely, um.
-Yeah.
-Hi, I'm Thelma.
Hi, Thelma, um yeah
what would you like to share?
Well.
I love my dogs.
Unfortunately, they got bit,
and I had to kill them.
I'm so sorry.
I just saw so much death
around me that I decided
maybe I would try
to become self-sufficient.
I became kind of
like a hermit,
if you want to call it that.
And I started growing
my own vegetables.
I started hydroponics
in my own house.
I-- I grew, I became
self-sufficient,
so I made a positive
out of it.
Wow, guys,
give it up for Tom
making a positive
with his hydroponics.
Yeah.
Sometimes, even when
you're surrounded by death,
there's still plants.
Just be quiet.
Uh, it was my brother
and I, and uh, we were,
um, we were close to Sacramento,
and there was
this field right?
And just this massive,
massive field.
And there, there weren't
a lot of biters around
and like, it's one of those
perfect sunsets, you know?
And-and we were together.
We kind of gotten into
a little fight, you know,
about the Tesla, etc.,
you know, did Elon cause.
-Do you want a baby?
-.the whole situation?
You guys know the theories,
I don't have to--
I am, I'm-I'm so sorry, sir.
Um just excuse me.
What are you doing?
We're here recording a podcast.
Does anybody know
this baby or just want it?
Vincent?
Uh, hi.
You want it?
I'm honestly,
just excuse me for a second.
Um, maybe you
could pass out this cake?
-Excuse me.
-She doesn't cry.
You cannot sell a baby here.
.we're recording a podcast!
I-- I didn't know
what else to do.
What what are you, like,
this is your single dad,
you're bringing your baby now?
Yeah, I'm not,
a dad, I'm an--
Whose-whose baby is that, huh?
Lisa?
It's Tricia's?
That is a very
Tricia-like face.
Trisha's dead.
I saw her a couple nights ago.
She still looks all right.
I am-guys,
I am so sorry, um, uh
Vincent here
is a serial cheater.
And he'll be leaving in just
a moment with his child. Okay.
Thank you
for that-introduction.
I was out scavenging around
and I came across a car
that was swarmed by biters.
Uh, and I found this.
.uh, underneath what,
I guess were her parents
who must have died
trying to protect her.
The point is,
it was the middle of the day,
so they're out.
Wait, wait.
No, you-- you don't have to--
Do you want a baby sir?
Guys I mean, we're kind of
stronger together.
Just.
I'm sorry, I didn't intend
to ruin your show.
I just need some help.
I just can't
believe you're still alive.
Yeah, I am, you are too?
Well, um.
baby's cute.
Well, you look good.
I can't believe that
we don't even have
nobody ate the cake!
Uh, can you give me
a ride at least?
I mean,
listen, I know there's been
a lot going on.
I know that a lot of you have
lost a lot of stuff,
but I just--
I think it is a bummer that,
like.
there's less hot people.
Like, that sucks-- like there
were never that many
and now, like, to lose a whole
proportion of those people
to being biters?
Little talked about problem.
Yeah, I know that
you're storing pee
in jars on your windows.
You know, I get it.
But like,
where the hot people at?
Less biters, more orgies.
Ya' know?
I don't know.
I'm just kidding.
Got to try to keep it
light sometimes, you know?
We'll just drop
you off in the front,
so just let us know.
Can you guys
come in and help me
clear the house at least?
This looks the same.
-Yeah.
-Since your parents were here?
Same house, yeah.
Have you changed anything?
My underwear.
Uh, I think
I see one out there.
They're still easy
to kill, Rish.
Come on in.
uh, make yourselves at home.
oh, how'd that happen?
Vincent,
is this how you're living?
-Ya' like it?
-Jesus, Vincent.
What's wrong with
the rest of the house?
Uh.
Plenty.
You know, I think
actually she's hungry.
Everybody keeps saying that.
Well-- well, do you
have any food for her?
Um. not really.
What do you mean,
"not really"? What do you--
what do you eat?
Well, I eat Spam because
my dad was a kind of
a doomsdayer so he just
hoarded a bunch of Spam
but I don't think a baby
can eat Spam, can they?
I don't know,
I don't know what Spam is.
I mean, it could be--
I think it's a lot of things.
So this is what you're doing?
You're just up here alone,
just eating Spam?
Yeah, but it wasn't
so gloomy until you just
mentioned it.
Yeah, well, you read
Walden Pond once
and you think it's an excuse
to avoid intimacy.
All right, you know what?
I think why don't you
take her Rish?
-And see, yeah.
-Okay.
There you go.
I am worried about you.
I'm fine, I cut wood,
I have heat, I have water,
I'm surviving.
Yeah, well, she's convinced
that you have to be together
for anything to matter, so.
What about hugs?
What about.
.community, people?
You want an added-liability?
There's one right there.
Yeah!
I don't think this is okay.
I'm just trying my best
and this is it.
Everybody's gone.
You know what?
Actually, I think I do
have food for her.
Mmhm?
Yeah, it's downstairs,
I'll get it.
You got her? Make yourself
at home, have a seat.
Yeah!
Yeah! Wooo!
Raa! Raaa!
Raa! Raaa!
That piece of shit left.
Honestly, we should just leave.
I mean, he'll be back
he's not just going to
leave a baby.
Um, he's been trying
to do that exact thing
the entire time I've known him
and now you're suggesting
we do that.
What, do you just want
to take the baby home
to Hari and Barbara?
You think that's going
to go over very well?
They're going to wonder
where we are.
Okay, look,
there are biters out.
Why don't we just wait it out?
He's got to come back
eventually.
You know what?
Could you just hold it
for a second?
I don't, I--
that's not really my--
Okay, that's.
I'm gonna try to find her
something that I can feed her.
We are both
pretty upset about this!
We don't like this!
Collectively!
This little piggy went
to the market!
This little piggy is gonna kill
Vincent when he comes home.
Come on.
We both want to know
what happened
between you and Vincent.
-Don't we now?
-No we don't.
So he was your boyfriend?
Listen, I don't kiss and tell.
Hello.
Stop worrying.
The plan was to hole up
at the courthouse
if they couldn't make it
back before sunset.
I'm not worried. I'm--
I know Vinita I can handle
herself, but.
Rish, he's--
I mean, I--
Well, at least
Vinita is with him.
She's a good killer!
She's not as serious about it
as she should be.
Yeah, that's her never taking
anything seriously.
-Remember our wedding?
-Oh, how could I forget?
She was so late!
And she wore
the wrong color.
I specifically said Duke blue,
and she showed up
in Tarheel blue.
The only thing that she cares
about is her bullshit podcast.
She sure is clinging to that.
Didja hear that?
It's game time.
All clear.
You don't think
Rish really got attacked
during the day, do you?
He always exaggerates.
I just hope the worst is over.
You know it is, right?
Mmhm.
To the worst being over.
The best is yet to come.
A cutie.
A cutie.
Man, you two are exactly
the same person.
Yeah?
I relate to her
emotional instability.
Oh! Thank you.
It's just brutal what happened
to their parents.
I know.
Sign of the times, I guess.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Fucking idiot!
Whoa, whoa, whoa!
Okay! Whoa, whoa, whoa!
Ok enough! I'm sorry!
I know, okay!
Alright! Alright!
Okay!
What is wrong with you?
I know! Yes!
You left a baby!
With my brother!
-In a house!
-Okay!
I know.
I felt sorry for you!
I know!
-Sack of shit!
-Okay, yes.
Jesus.
Everyone's in the same boat!
I-- yeah.
You get to decide to leave?
Does anyone else get a choice?
I'm sorry.
I can't believe
you left us there.
I'm sorry.
You left my baby brother there
with that baby.
I upgraded it for her.
That's why I did it. I'm.
I'm not equipped.
I'm bad for that baby.
It doesn't even occur to you
that somebody could miss you.
So will you just
take the baby?
Oh! Okay, okay, okay!
I think--
let's try a little higher.
-Oh, uh-a G?
-Try a.
-G alright, cool.
-Okay.
Nice,
I like that. Yeah.
Hey, Barbara. Uh, okay.
I just need you to be chill
for a second, okay?
This is Vincent.
This is a baby.
It's an orphan baby.
It's not his baby.
And they're just coming over
here to eat, so don't freak out.
Please, just stay chill.
I love babies!
Oh my God!
Oh!
Hi!
Aw, we missed
cocktail hour!
-I love cocktail hour.
-Where the hell were you guys?
And who's this?
Uh, Hari you-
you remember Vincent.
Long time.
Is-- is this your son?
Mm no. Uh, Girl.
Baby, daughter.
Not mine.
Well then whose kid is this?
Well, we're--
we're not sure, but
he saved her from a car
that was, like, exploding
with biters, right Vincent?
- Jesus.
- Mmhm.
Oh!
V, can I talk
to you for a second?
How could you bring someone else
in this house
without telling us?
Just like before you say
anything it's like,
they didn't have anywhere to go.
Yeah, everything's
a joke to you.
They were in an attic
there was no heat--
I don't care! This--
that's not our problem.
You're putting
our family in danger
do you understand that?
I don't like him
and he shouldn't be here.
This is fucking bullshit--
Hey, hey.
Hey, why don't we, uh--
why don't we eat some food?
Yeah?
Ma used to say a--
a prayer before we ate.
So if you guys don't mind.
Shanti, shanti, shanti.
I love Aloo Patchy.
Aloo-Aloo Bajji.
This reminds me
of eating at restaurants,
I miss restaurants.
I miss Cipriani's.
- Oh!
- Oh God the Italian.
I still remember
the day before.
we headed downtown
to get Creemees
because we just finished
our exams.
Hmm.
What's a Creemee?
Oh, it's um--
it's just like ice cream.
Oh, yeah.
It was the day right before
spring break,
so everyone was super excited.
There was these long lines
at the Creemee stands, and
and everyone was just filtering
down to the waterfront
to catch that sunset right
before everyone left to go home.
We were all at ease
and then everything changed.
There's still sunsets.
Yeah, well,
couldn't go anywhere.
And uh.
it was just mom, dad, and.
and me.
Vincent, how've you been
gettin' by?
My dad was a cop,
and so he had
a stockpile of weapons,
and he thought he could just
sort of fight his way out of it,
and, um he tried.
Uh, I did my best
to protect him, and
I can still hear him
trying to tell me to run.
This is really yummy.
Okay, so,
I mean,
if you're going to stay--
Who said I'm gonna stay?
- I've been fine.
- So you're not staying.
Can we just
get through a meal?
No I just think it's important
for us all to be together.
I mean, we need
strength in numbers.
Being alone is not gonna
- I mean-
- Babe.
if he doesn't want
to stay.
I think you should stay.
Babe.
I think he should.
We need more people.
Maybe we don't have to.
You know what I mean?
We don't have to--
I'm just trying to
get to know him!
If-- if you know,
if you're going to stay
and live with us
and be a part of this unit,
I want to know what
we're working with.
I mean, he said
he had weapons, Barbara.
I love weapons.
I saw that spear.
It's pretty cool.
- Oh, yeah.
- it's bedazzled.
If you're going to fight,
why not look good doing it?
This isn't the military!
But it is war, you know?
She's a sweetie
And I love her
She's a sweet girl,
ba ba ba-da-da-da!
Okay V has, like,
the worst taste in men.
I mean, this clown?
- Oh, my God
- I mean, I can't.
The dress fits perfect.
You like that?
You like this? Yeah!
Good girl.
I think we should keep her.
-Babe--
-Hey, before you say anything
look at these tiny feet!
They're so cute!
Those tiny feet
are going to get us killed.
Look, I-- I understand
why you were hesitant
before all of this.
-I can't--
-With school.
Oh, we're going back to--
-We're going back to school?
-Yes, yes, we're going back.
Babe, that's not--
.because there is
always something Hari.
This is not something.
This is it.
Okay? This is the end.
And I'm sorry,
but that is.
That is death.
Please don't say that.
We have seen what death looks
like out there Hari.
Yeah. I'm sorry.
Let's not fight. Okay.
I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry.
How long can it just be us?
She's a-- a chance.
She's going to depend on us
for everything.
And.
what if we don't make it?
What if we do?
I'm gonna go
make her some food.
know that in my family
when we lost our parents
it uh, gosh, it felt like the--
the guard towers fell,
you know? But, um.
but, you know, being
home with uh, with Hari
and with Rish, it--
It feels like I found
my fortress again.
Uh.
Mal-ho for life, you know?
I feel safe.
You still seem angry as ever.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
This coming from a man
who is wildly violent.
Violence fills me up now
I like it.
That's not a thing.
-Well.
-That's not a thing.
It works the
same way love does.
Didn't you mould
a little heart up there?
Is this the heart--
is this the Heart Space spot?
Oh that, yeah.
That is it. That's true.
Did you ever finish that?
I mean, what about you?
You're so together.
You do all this stuff.
"I have a podcast!"
"Everybody listens
to my podcast!"
You should listen
to my podcast.
-You would feel less--
-I do listen to your podcast.
What?
You listen?
Like you listen-listen.
-You listen?
-Like I listen. I listen,
I listen, I listen.
Yes, I listen!
Why do you keep calling it
a podcast?
It's on the radio.
You know Rish says that too.
Yeah, it's true.
Does it satisfy you?
It's a lot of work.
That's what you like.
-What?
-Work over connection.
Not over.
Work Is connection.
Yeah?
Kind of.
You remember
this little shack?
Yeah, I remember the shack.
You sure you want to come in?
Help me look.
All right.
Just keep an eye out, huh?
Vin!
Oh shit!
Come on. Let's go.
Oh!
-Shit!
-Come on.
Just leave it, I got it!
-We can't have to go.
-I'm good!
Let's go!
Shit, oh fuck.
I've got it!
-Just-- I'm fine!
-Vinny, Vinny!
-Ow!
-Vinny, Vinny, Vinny!
Leave me alone!
You've had a gun
this whole time?
Yeah.
And now I only have
two shots left.
-Ok, I'm fine.
-Listen to me.
You're hurt.
You just have to let me help
you, okay? Come on.
Trust me. Please.
Okay. Come on, come on.
Listen, I know that, uh.
kidding aside,
this shit can be
just utterly terrifying.
But the only way out
is through.
Uh and to stick together
and to.
and to keep your optimism up.
So, good luck out
there survivors.
Good luck.
-Oh my God, you guys okay?
-Jesus, what-what happened?
No I-- I'm fine.
It's just a sprain.
Yeah, we got ambushed
by a few of 'em.
These.
they looked different.
In what way?
Just faster.
Than the ones at night.
They seemed
more focused somehow.
I-- I told you guys they
are gonna start mutating.
None of you believed it.
Did they look like
recently bitten?
No, they look
like the others just.
.evolved.
Um, Barbara said
there might be a crib that--
in mom and dad's room.
Gonna go check.
Rish. Some help?
I am gonna go edit
yesterday's podcast.
You want help?
Hey, come on.
Come on.
Yeah.
The crib.
Oh, wait, look what I found.
Comin' up
for the New York Yankees
number eight, Rish Malhotra.
You remembered my number.
Carrom?
Ooh, yeah!
-With the little piece-
-Yeah, where's the red one?
Oh!
My God, look,
they look so young.
The Didn't Die podcast
is coming to
you live from my home town.
This is the 100th episode.
and it is bad.
Fuck.
-Hey.
-Hey.
Look what the cat dragged in.
-Hey.
-Sorry.
No. It's fine.
Figured you could
use a drink.
How's the podcast going?
Um well, it's not--
it's not really complete
because um.
you ruined it, so.
Oh, yeah.
There's that.
So it's just ruined?
That's right.
Here's to fixing stuff.
That's nice.
I could interview you.
This is-- is this.
I just put these on?
Did you just have a good idea?
I mean, I hope. We'll see.
Why's my mouth sound so wet?
Oh. It's wet.
-Yeah.
-It's-- that's wet.
You sound-your voice is nice.
Thank you.
Ladies and gentlemen,
thanks for hearing.
This is--
-Listen-- listening.
-Let me get through one.
-I'm so sorry.
-Hey guys!
Thank you for listening
to Didn't Die podcast.
The podcast.
I'm your new host,
DJ Wet. Mouth.
I need more of that.
-Upside?
-Whiskey.
Oh.
Here's to good voices
and wet mouths.
No, no, not to the wet--
Today I will be interviewing
someone that may have
a familiar voice.
It's the actual host
of this show, Vinita.
Are you okay?
Oh my God.
Ma's mangalsutra.
You know Nana ji gave this to Ma
on her wedding day.
She only wore it
on special occasions.
She wore it for
your first birthday.
-Can I-- can I hold it?
-Yeah.
Oh, it's so heavy.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm okay.
Umm.
No, that's-- that's not, uh.
That's not true.
I um.
Yeah. I'm--
I'm not okay.
I'm worried about the kid.
My little brother.
When um, everything started
Rish was the only one
who was at home.
You know,
when mom and I found dad,
she froze.
She--
She couldn't believe it.
She wouldn't believe it.
I don't think she could imagine
life without him.
I was supposed to come
back and help them
and I was busy.
She didn't even try.
He came after us and--
and she wouldn't run.
She just stood there.
I wasn't there.
I tried. I tried.
-I tried.
-I know.
-I tried.
-I know.
Hari wasn't there.
Now they're just out there.
They're just out there.
We weren't there for him.
He's never killed
a biter.
He's never killed one ever.
And I um.
I don't know how he's going to
handle everything now.
Now what do we do?
Now what do we--
Now what do we do?
You tell me DJ Wet Mouth.
It's okay,
it's ok sweetie.
Mmm.
Oh yeah, good,
good, good, good.
Good job!
You're so sweet.
Ohh.
Oh you got it.
What are we eating?
- Hi!
- Hi.
Mmm, V,
this outfit look familiar?
I. um.
It's yours.
You wore it at your feeding
ceremony,
and you were crying
the whole time.
-Feeding ceremony?
-Yeah feeding ceremony
when you were like six months.
There it goes, baby,
get it!
Good job!
Two shots left.
You guys can use em.
I think we should.
No.
No, absolutely not.
They're mutating.
What if they start
to remember us?
What-- what if they
come back here?
Just let them be
and let nature take its course.
What if they
hurt other people?
They're our parents.
Hari it's time.
Do you know
where they are?
Yeah.
I uh-drove around
looking for them
the uh, first day we got back.
You were right about the biters.
I'm--
I'm sorry we didn't
believe you.
I'm sorry too.
Ma, Papa.
Didn't die,
didn't die, didn't die.
Sometimes before I record
I read the introduction
over and over again,
and I find myself
saying the words
didn't die,
didn't die, didn't die,
so many times
until they lose all meaning.
Didn't die, didn't die.
Didn't die, didn't die,
didn't die, didn't die,
And eventually it just becomes
didn't I?
Shouldn't we be quiet?
Can I do your makeup?
It'll look so good.
It'll look so great oh my God.
Oh my God, I can't believe
you're letting me do this!
The vest is uh--
my vest looks good on you.
Thanks.
yeah, it works, it's not bad.
Beautiful dreamer
Wake unto me
Starlight and dewdrops
are waiting for thee
Sounds of the rude world
-Heard in the day
- Sing it Barb.
Lull'd by the moonlight
Have all passed away!
-Beautiful dreamer
-Beautiful dreamer
Come on, give it up!
Give it up for Barb guys,
seriously. Amazing.
Amazing.
I'm impressed.
Oh!
See? That's-- yeah.
No but that went
in though!
That went in though.
I'm impressed.
But it's a trick game.
Alright let's go Barbara.
Yeah!
Oh!
That's why I married her!
That's why I married her.
Bobby! Bobby come here.
You like 'em?
Sup Mal-ho's.
You guys alright?
Good to have you home.
The sage Vyasa
appeared before Yudhisthira
and consoled him.
You know what
that means consoled?
He made him feel better.
I know.
Even the most virtuous of men
have eventually been
consumed by death.
Grieve not over
the death of Abhimanyu.
Hey, are you sleepy?
What's going on?
He's saying listen
this is the best part.
Remember what Vyasa says.
Grieve not over
the death of Abhimanyu
for the one who is born,
is certain to die.
Bob, you're such a good boy.
Hi.
Hey, how's it going in there?
It's good.
Can I have a drag?
-You sure?
-Yeah.
It's been a long day
for all of us.
-Okay.
-Sorry.
Is, uh-is the baby sleeping or?
Yeah. Yeah.
She went down easy.
-Yeah?
-Yeah.
She's so sweet.
So I've been thinking.
I think she would be a perfect
addition to our family.
Really?
Are you serious right now?
We're going to be parents?
I love you.
I love you.
Okay, I need more champagne.
More champagne. Let's do it.
Come on Bobby!
-Come on Bobby.
-Let's go!
Hey, y'all!
Okay we have some big news.
We're gonna be parents!
Come here, babe.
Okay, I gotta stand watch,
though.
Come on.
I gotta stand watch,
though. Okay?
Yeah, okay.
Go to sleep.
Yeah.
Okay.
No, don't touch her!
Oh!
Oh, shit!
Fuck!
Go!
Get out of here!
Get out of here now!
Go!
V! Wait!
Take this with you.
Okay?
I love you both very much.
I love you.
They're coming
through the windows.
We gotta go. Come on!
Go!
Go.
Shit!
I didn't charge it.
Out back, to the boat.
Okay!
Go to the boat. Go to the boat.
Ah!
How do I stop?
Stop the bleeding
How do I stop?
Stop the needing
How do I stop?
Stop repeating
The cycle
The cycle of sabotage
Love shouldn't be this hard
To the worst being over.
Whenever I get this far
The best is yet to come.
Repeating the cycle,
the cycle
Open the blinds
Life is there
on the other side
-No darkness
-Rish!
Heaven knows my heart
- Oh, step in the wind
- Just go.
No, no, no, no.
Let it fill
all the emptiness
Mornings coming
It's okay.
Ssoon
How do I stop?
Stop the bleeding
How do I stop?
Stop the needing
We gotta go!
How do I stop?
Rish!
Stop repeating
The cycle, the cycle
- Rish!
How do I stop?
Stop the bleeding
How do I stop?
Stop the needing
How do I stop?
Stop repeating
The cycle
The cycle
Good evening
Mr. and Mrs. North America
and all the ships at sea.
Let's go to press.
Vincent!
What's up?
I found something on the radio
and it's really cool music!
Everybody's got a podcast
nowadays, huh?
-Yeah.
-High five.
Let's do it.
Hope
you're staying safe wherever
you're hiding out tonight.
It's such an honor to be
All right. Ready?
I'm gonna squeeze yours.
.on the 7th
anniversary of the Second Wave
We will never forget
the ones we lost.
- No?
- No.
-Nothing?
-Nothing.
All right.
Hand.
Oh!
Okay. That was good.
Vinita!
Hey, you know what.
She's just busy probably.
Come on back.
Yeah. Okay.
Good evening,
residents of Sector 7.
The curfew is still in effect.
Lights out at 10pm.
Hi!
Look what I found!
Where did you get that?
Um.
We found a scrap pile.
out near the bridge.
You took her outside?
Barely.
Barely outside.
It's okay.
Vincent.
You can't take her outside.
-It's not safe.
-She was safe--
When you relax like,
that's when you're the
most vulnerable.
She was safe.
What if she wasn't safe?
-Vin.
-She's just a kid.
What if she wasn't safe?
Vin.
It wasn't your fault.
It's okay.
You did your best.
We're still doing our best.
Show her how that radio works.
I hate the radio.
Well don't tell her that.
You okay?
Um.
Yeah.
Do you need a hug?
Yeah.
Let's just go for a walk.
Sure.
Okay.
-Here.
-Thanks.
-Want me to show you?
-Yeah.
Kick and kiss.
-Kick and kiss.
-That was a good one!
Thanks!
Let's do it together.
Kick and.
-kiss.
-Kiss.
Juniper make my gin
Wreath the room stayin' in
Winter wind
Sun setting early
Holly branch poisonous
But there it is
in front of us
And table set
and here we are, dearly
I've forgotten so long where
these memories come from
Could we gather
For song and sing sweetly
I'll hold on to this year
What to make of it
clearly no answers
embrace us completely
Holiday for a baby born
peacefully
Narcissus will blossom soon
Keep the green charge
the bloom
How we keep
and how we wound
Sincerely
Try again Love that song
Sang it as we drove along
Started out
our family there
Maybe
I've forgotten so long
Where these memories
come from
Could we gather
For song and sing sweetly
I'll hold on to this year
What to make of it
Clearly no answers
Embrace us completely
Holiday for a baby born
peacefully
Overhead stovetop light
Quite house gentle night
Feel your heat sleep beside
Dreaming
We three kings given hell
Same time next year too
soon to sell
'Cause we're all here
and that's the tell
Truly
I've forgotten so long where
these memories come from
Could we gather
For song and sing sweetly
I'll hold on to this year
What to make of it
clearly no answers
embrace us completely
Holiday for a baby born
peacefully
Holiday for a baby born
peacefully
Holiday for a baby born
peacefully
Peacefully
Peacefully
Wasn't worth it.
I thought we had enough gas.
It's alright,
we have a few hours left.
It's not about the gas,
your mom takes
zero precautions
and then she throws us
a surprise party.
For the baby!
She was sad that we didn't get
to do something for her
when she was born.
Oh, I remember
she was very mad at me,
but we had a newborn
and your mom's house
is not secure at all.
What?
-What do--
-Nothing.
No. Go ahead, say it.
-No, I.
-You think I'm paranoid.
I think we're all paranoid.
I'm paranoid.
It's totally understandable.
Okay?
We survived.
We're fine,
it's daylight, look.
Just in case.
Feel better?
Yeah, I really do.
Good.
Good.
All right.
Look at this.
This looks promising.
All right, I'll check
the cars maybe uh.
check over there for supplies,
knives, bullets, guns.
Yeah 'cuz people just leave that
stuff lying around these days.
Okay, here we go, oh God,
should'a got an electric car.
Oh. Nothing here.
It's okay.
Yeah. There's nothing
really over here either.
All right.
This guy.
Wow.
Bob, we need to hurry.
Oh! Ugh.
Come on.
Okay.
Wow! Look at this.
More cars!
All right, uhh.
How 'bout get that one,
and I'll start over here.
Okay.
Okay?
Go team!
Go team.
Go, team!
Oh! Look at that!
Yeah?
Woo! Finally some luck.
Oh sorry.
Did I wake you up?
All right!
We're gonna go home!
Janet!
Janet!
Hello Didn't Die!
Hello listeners
of the Didn't Die podcast
this is our 100th episode,
one hundo!
We did it!
Uh, we. we survived.
It's me, your host, Vinita.
It is your host,
Vinita Malhotra.
I'm back in my hometown
after traveling the country
with all of you and meeting you.
If you're here,
come to the courthouse tomorrow.
Warm bodies only.
Biters stay outside.
Wish you were listeners,
honestly.
And.
and thank you, for listening.
You've made it.
you've made it worth it
that uh.that we didn't die.
Oh!
I saw one. A biter. A biter!
-A biter. A biter.
-Okay, relax, relax.
You realize
what that means right?
I'm here. I'm here.
Biters during the day.
Biters during the day.
You see it?
You see it, right?
I don't see it.
What do you mean?
It was chasing me.
It was behind--
he was behind me.
I believe you, but you musta
outrun him or something.
I mean, you took care of it,
right?
Yeah.
-Well then you outran him.
-Yeah, yeah.
There's no biter.
Okay. Okay.
You're good.
Come on, kid.
You're good.
You got this Rish.
-you're good.
-Yeah, yeah.
Look.
I drew a dick
on the thing for the 100th.
Did you see it? It's funny.
Yeah.
You're a regular Picasso.
Yeah.
You good?
- Yeah.
- Here, give me half.
Should we do the street?
- Sure.
- Yeah?
Yeah.
Can you do the clip?
Clip?
That was a good one
that's high!
And don't mention
the biter to Barbara.
We don't need her freaking out.
Jesus, Barbara.
We live here.
This is our childhood home.
Hey, it's her home now, too.
All right?
Thanks, Hare-Bear.
-I think we're good.
-Okay.
Malhotra family in the house!
- All right, all right.
- What's up?
- All right.
- Come on in.
- Shoes off!
It's cute right?
Welcome home little man!
It's good to be back.
So what happened?
You guys were, like, supposed
to be here two hours ago?
Everything okay?
You good V?
Yeah. Yeah.
We just uh,
just got a little distracted.
Yeah! We're okay.
-Um.
-Yeah.
-We're fine.
-No.
No, things aren't just fine.
I just got attacked.
I saw a biter during the day.
- No way.
- No, really.
Okay, that's--
That's impossible.
-And your beard is
getting way too long.
-Okay, okay. But.
-.we need to find you a razor.
You hungry?
We made dosas, your favorite.
V? Dosas?. Let's do this.
Okay. Okay, but one biter
could mean more biters.
And more biters could mean like,
thousands of biters.
Barbara you need
to chill the fuck out.
It was one biter.
And the only person
who saw it was Rish.
Of course he did.
And he took care of it.
Okay, okay, but are you guys
done with that
traveling podcast thing?
I mean, it would be really great
to have you around.
I mean,
you've done 100 episodes.
Is there anyone else
around town?
Yeah, people are starting
to gather out there,
but we're managing just fine
just the two of us.
-Yeah.
-Gross!
I love this. Shut up!
Wait. So-so you two
don't talk to anyone else?
Well.
You see what I'm saying Rish?
That's why what we do
is important.
Because people like them
are just being all hermitage.
Yo the Montana episode,
though?
-I love that.
-Do you Stan?
-I've been listening to it.
-I'm serious.
Hey, come on, little sis.
Um, but that mayor interview,
went on just like.
I just felt like
it was a little long.
Wait, are you giving me notes?
It was a little long!
I'm gonna tell you.
Here.
Thank you.
It's very good.
Yeah. You like it?
You're a good cook,
I forget this about you.
Who knows? You know?
So tell me what the hell
happened out there.
Look, you know how Vinita said
we were late?
It's 'cuz she parked the car,
like, three miles away from me.
So I had to cut
through the cemetery
to get back and so--
Where's Bobby? Bobby!
Hey, come here.
Is he an Indian dog?
Does he understand Hindi?
I mean, of course,
just as well as, you know,
Rish does.
.fast, right,
so you know, I, I--
So I'm just walking around
the 50,000 little flyers
that she gave me
and I'm going through
and then I hear this noise,
and I just look up this hill,
and, and there he is.
It's so good
to have you guys here.
It's basically
the same except
for that one shiny headband.
Hey, V, take it easy,
all right?
Mmhmm.
I haven't felt-- I haven't
felt that scared since.
-Well, well.
-Oh, yeah.
You know, you know.
with Mom and Dad.
Yeah.
Okay.
Can I make you some chai tea?
Rish said that uhm,
he saw a biter.
For those of you
who aren't um, familiar,
that's my, my baby brother.
You may have heard him
on the podcast every so often.
He's my uh.
my ride or die. Um.
little baby. baby buddy
who uh, exaggerates sometimes.
Sometimes you want somebody
that you love
to really be wrong.
I hope he's wrong.
It's okay.
.we've been having
an incredible time
just traveling
the eastern territories.
This is me, your host, Vinita,
and I'm beyond thrilled to say
that we are, uh, turning 100.
We're turning 100, you guys.
We're back in town.
And, and listen,
we have had, like,
so many amazing moments
and so many amazing episodes
with so many of you
and now
as we're approaching this,
this final live recording
after having not seen
people for so long.
And I-- I do wonder if anyone
that I used to know made it.
That used to me being famous,
but now it just
means being here.
So this is just a friendly
reminder out there to each
and every one of you
to stay alert,
especially at night
when biters feed.
You know this,
but aim for the brain,
that is right,
we are back to the classics.
And you guys know
the official recommendation
and the most important rule:
kill to avoid further spread.
Now, I know not
everyone can follow that one.
It is very difficult
to do the killing.
Uh, especially when
it's someone you love.
So if it is,
just try and think
of someone you hate.
Because I know
we've all had to do it. Um.
become killers.
I always thought
that would be chic,
but not so much.
I do have a few exes
that I wouldn't mind
stabbing a machete
through their hearts.
Um.
One of the things that
I'm personally finding
hardest to do is, uh,
just not creeping back
into memories
past and not racing towards
this perfect future
where everything's better.
Which, to be clear
for me at least,
would be a much hornier future.
Trish?
Kidding.
Nobody told me
that the apocalypse
was gonna be so boring!
Damn.
I guess
I imagined something hornier.
It's like less biters,
more orgies.
Am I right?
We are, uh, turning 100.
We're turning 100, you guys.
And I just want to say,
it has been so inspiring
to see how many people
have adapted and grown.
I mean, wow, the food co-ops,
the battery mills?
Guys shout out--
oh shout out to
Jerry in Pittsburgh
he really came through
for us with our Tesla
and charging,
thank you so much brother.
So I've just
got back to town,
and I have had
a chance to hang out
with my oldest brother,
who I absolutely adore
of course, Hari and his wife,
who is also there, Barbara.
Um, alive. She made it.
She, she did make it.
Uh. you don't get to pick
the people who make it,
but it's good that
they are there.
But, gosh, you guys,
they have not left
my childhood home.
They're in that
self-imposed quarantine
shut-in-vibe moment.
When it started,
it's like Hari bought out
all the grocery stores
and filled the basement
with booze and lentils
and rice.
They just want to stay home
they're worried
it's gonna get worse.
Everyone's gonna do it
their own way, I guess.
It, it takes all types.
I can survive
and I will survive.
You know, I really
thought I would be ripped
if I was going to be
in a doomsday situation.
You know, it's like
I can't even do a push up.
Isn't it crazy to be
back here?
I don't know,
it's kind of nice.
I don't know,
I'm a little excited
to get back on the road Barbara.
She's not really that bad.
She bedazzled
everything she owns.
Okay, well.
That-that I will give you.
It's very shiny.
I'm surprised Bobby
hasn't been bedazzled.
I mean, the fact that
this woman decided
to have a Hindu wedding
with an open flame in July
so all her guests
were just dripping
in the heat is just
unfathomable, like, selfish.
All right, let's go.
You should
wear the other jacket.
Really?
Okay.
Hey, we got this.
-Ba!
-Ba!
Are you going to help me?
No. I'm gonna
eat this cake, though.
I think we've done
a lot of good.
You know?
Don't say I didn't help.
Can't say I didn't help.
That's a fan.
-You see?
-Okay, okay.
Hey, sometimes
you have a good idea.
What?
Oh-kay.
You you see
how it's light outside?
-And that is in here?
-Yeah, I get it.
-Yeah, yeah.
-He's barely awake.
Okay? I don't need
you to say it. It's fine.
People are going to be
here in, like, five minutes.
Why don't you take this one?
-Look he's--
-Excuse me?
-I'm fine.
-You got this!
-I'm fine!
-You're powerful, you're brave.
-You're strong!
-No, no, no, no, no.
Come on. Go, go, go,
go, go, go.
No, no.
I'm good, I'm good, I'm good.
-You sure?
-Yeah, yeah.
I'll do the next one, though.
I'll do the next one.
You gotta get used to this.
-Yeah, yeah, I'm used it.
-Two years deep.
No no, I'm used to it.
It's my back, you know.
Um, the next one.
You are at
the Didn't Die podcast,
the 100th episode today,
and I'm just so excited
to have you all.
How are we surviving, guys?
How are we doing?
Great, uh.
my brother, um, Rish and I
are-- are from this town,
and we're just
so excited to be here
seeing your beautiful faces
and celebrating
with all of you.
And I just wanted to-to take
a moment and just connect
with you guys
and connect as to
what you've been up to and,
and maybe just share a moment
that would be a--
a spark of why you came or,
or just a moment of, of light.
Anyone?
I'll share.
Great. Yeah.
I had to kill my wife, I had
to-she turned into a biter,
so I had to kill my wife.
Then uh, then I had to kill my--
I had to kill my dad.
My dad turned into a biter,
so I had to kill my dad.
Then I had to--
I had to kill my mom
cuz' my mom turned into a biter.
I got really, really lonely,
and I thought about
killing myself,
but I-I ran out of bullets
like, a long time ago.
-Yeah.
-And then I saw the flier.
and my mom used to
always say, just like,
you gotta like,
you gotta vocalize,
what's going on
just get outside of your head
by saying it out loud.
And, so I came out here,
so, so thank you, thank you,
thank you everyone, thank you.
So.
Thank you, thank you
so much for sharing that.
And I'm glad to see that
the fliers made a difference.
Um, does anyone else have
something that they-- um yeah?
Oh, great. Great.
Yeah, absolutely, um.
-Yeah.
-Hi, I'm Thelma.
Hi, Thelma, um yeah
what would you like to share?
Well.
I love my dogs.
Unfortunately, they got bit,
and I had to kill them.
I'm so sorry.
I just saw so much death
around me that I decided
maybe I would try
to become self-sufficient.
I became kind of
like a hermit,
if you want to call it that.
And I started growing
my own vegetables.
I started hydroponics
in my own house.
I-- I grew, I became
self-sufficient,
so I made a positive
out of it.
Wow, guys,
give it up for Tom
making a positive
with his hydroponics.
Yeah.
Sometimes, even when
you're surrounded by death,
there's still plants.
Just be quiet.
Uh, it was my brother
and I, and uh, we were,
um, we were close to Sacramento,
and there was
this field right?
And just this massive,
massive field.
And there, there weren't
a lot of biters around
and like, it's one of those
perfect sunsets, you know?
And-and we were together.
We kind of gotten into
a little fight, you know,
about the Tesla, etc.,
you know, did Elon cause.
-Do you want a baby?
-.the whole situation?
You guys know the theories,
I don't have to--
I am, I'm-I'm so sorry, sir.
Um just excuse me.
What are you doing?
We're here recording a podcast.
Does anybody know
this baby or just want it?
Vincent?
Uh, hi.
You want it?
I'm honestly,
just excuse me for a second.
Um, maybe you
could pass out this cake?
-Excuse me.
-She doesn't cry.
You cannot sell a baby here.
.we're recording a podcast!
I-- I didn't know
what else to do.
What what are you, like,
this is your single dad,
you're bringing your baby now?
Yeah, I'm not,
a dad, I'm an--
Whose-whose baby is that, huh?
Lisa?
It's Tricia's?
That is a very
Tricia-like face.
Trisha's dead.
I saw her a couple nights ago.
She still looks all right.
I am-guys,
I am so sorry, um, uh
Vincent here
is a serial cheater.
And he'll be leaving in just
a moment with his child. Okay.
Thank you
for that-introduction.
I was out scavenging around
and I came across a car
that was swarmed by biters.
Uh, and I found this.
.uh, underneath what,
I guess were her parents
who must have died
trying to protect her.
The point is,
it was the middle of the day,
so they're out.
Wait, wait.
No, you-- you don't have to--
Do you want a baby sir?
Guys I mean, we're kind of
stronger together.
Just.
I'm sorry, I didn't intend
to ruin your show.
I just need some help.
I just can't
believe you're still alive.
Yeah, I am, you are too?
Well, um.
baby's cute.
Well, you look good.
I can't believe that
we don't even have
nobody ate the cake!
Uh, can you give me
a ride at least?
I mean,
listen, I know there's been
a lot going on.
I know that a lot of you have
lost a lot of stuff,
but I just--
I think it is a bummer that,
like.
there's less hot people.
Like, that sucks-- like there
were never that many
and now, like, to lose a whole
proportion of those people
to being biters?
Little talked about problem.
Yeah, I know that
you're storing pee
in jars on your windows.
You know, I get it.
But like,
where the hot people at?
Less biters, more orgies.
Ya' know?
I don't know.
I'm just kidding.
Got to try to keep it
light sometimes, you know?
We'll just drop
you off in the front,
so just let us know.
Can you guys
come in and help me
clear the house at least?
This looks the same.
-Yeah.
-Since your parents were here?
Same house, yeah.
Have you changed anything?
My underwear.
Uh, I think
I see one out there.
They're still easy
to kill, Rish.
Come on in.
uh, make yourselves at home.
oh, how'd that happen?
Vincent,
is this how you're living?
-Ya' like it?
-Jesus, Vincent.
What's wrong with
the rest of the house?
Uh.
Plenty.
You know, I think
actually she's hungry.
Everybody keeps saying that.
Well-- well, do you
have any food for her?
Um. not really.
What do you mean,
"not really"? What do you--
what do you eat?
Well, I eat Spam because
my dad was a kind of
a doomsdayer so he just
hoarded a bunch of Spam
but I don't think a baby
can eat Spam, can they?
I don't know,
I don't know what Spam is.
I mean, it could be--
I think it's a lot of things.
So this is what you're doing?
You're just up here alone,
just eating Spam?
Yeah, but it wasn't
so gloomy until you just
mentioned it.
Yeah, well, you read
Walden Pond once
and you think it's an excuse
to avoid intimacy.
All right, you know what?
I think why don't you
take her Rish?
-And see, yeah.
-Okay.
There you go.
I am worried about you.
I'm fine, I cut wood,
I have heat, I have water,
I'm surviving.
Yeah, well, she's convinced
that you have to be together
for anything to matter, so.
What about hugs?
What about.
.community, people?
You want an added-liability?
There's one right there.
Yeah!
I don't think this is okay.
I'm just trying my best
and this is it.
Everybody's gone.
You know what?
Actually, I think I do
have food for her.
Mmhm?
Yeah, it's downstairs,
I'll get it.
You got her? Make yourself
at home, have a seat.
Yeah!
Yeah! Wooo!
Raa! Raaa!
Raa! Raaa!
That piece of shit left.
Honestly, we should just leave.
I mean, he'll be back
he's not just going to
leave a baby.
Um, he's been trying
to do that exact thing
the entire time I've known him
and now you're suggesting
we do that.
What, do you just want
to take the baby home
to Hari and Barbara?
You think that's going
to go over very well?
They're going to wonder
where we are.
Okay, look,
there are biters out.
Why don't we just wait it out?
He's got to come back
eventually.
You know what?
Could you just hold it
for a second?
I don't, I--
that's not really my--
Okay, that's.
I'm gonna try to find her
something that I can feed her.
We are both
pretty upset about this!
We don't like this!
Collectively!
This little piggy went
to the market!
This little piggy is gonna kill
Vincent when he comes home.
Come on.
We both want to know
what happened
between you and Vincent.
-Don't we now?
-No we don't.
So he was your boyfriend?
Listen, I don't kiss and tell.
Hello.
Stop worrying.
The plan was to hole up
at the courthouse
if they couldn't make it
back before sunset.
I'm not worried. I'm--
I know Vinita I can handle
herself, but.
Rish, he's--
I mean, I--
Well, at least
Vinita is with him.
She's a good killer!
She's not as serious about it
as she should be.
Yeah, that's her never taking
anything seriously.
-Remember our wedding?
-Oh, how could I forget?
She was so late!
And she wore
the wrong color.
I specifically said Duke blue,
and she showed up
in Tarheel blue.
The only thing that she cares
about is her bullshit podcast.
She sure is clinging to that.
Didja hear that?
It's game time.
All clear.
You don't think
Rish really got attacked
during the day, do you?
He always exaggerates.
I just hope the worst is over.
You know it is, right?
Mmhm.
To the worst being over.
The best is yet to come.
A cutie.
A cutie.
Man, you two are exactly
the same person.
Yeah?
I relate to her
emotional instability.
Oh! Thank you.
It's just brutal what happened
to their parents.
I know.
Sign of the times, I guess.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Fucking idiot!
Whoa, whoa, whoa!
Okay! Whoa, whoa, whoa!
Ok enough! I'm sorry!
I know, okay!
Alright! Alright!
Okay!
What is wrong with you?
I know! Yes!
You left a baby!
With my brother!
-In a house!
-Okay!
I know.
I felt sorry for you!
I know!
-Sack of shit!
-Okay, yes.
Jesus.
Everyone's in the same boat!
I-- yeah.
You get to decide to leave?
Does anyone else get a choice?
I'm sorry.
I can't believe
you left us there.
I'm sorry.
You left my baby brother there
with that baby.
I upgraded it for her.
That's why I did it. I'm.
I'm not equipped.
I'm bad for that baby.
It doesn't even occur to you
that somebody could miss you.
So will you just
take the baby?
Oh! Okay, okay, okay!
I think--
let's try a little higher.
-Oh, uh-a G?
-Try a.
-G alright, cool.
-Okay.
Nice,
I like that. Yeah.
Hey, Barbara. Uh, okay.
I just need you to be chill
for a second, okay?
This is Vincent.
This is a baby.
It's an orphan baby.
It's not his baby.
And they're just coming over
here to eat, so don't freak out.
Please, just stay chill.
I love babies!
Oh my God!
Oh!
Hi!
Aw, we missed
cocktail hour!
-I love cocktail hour.
-Where the hell were you guys?
And who's this?
Uh, Hari you-
you remember Vincent.
Long time.
Is-- is this your son?
Mm no. Uh, Girl.
Baby, daughter.
Not mine.
Well then whose kid is this?
Well, we're--
we're not sure, but
he saved her from a car
that was, like, exploding
with biters, right Vincent?
- Jesus.
- Mmhm.
Oh!
V, can I talk
to you for a second?
How could you bring someone else
in this house
without telling us?
Just like before you say
anything it's like,
they didn't have anywhere to go.
Yeah, everything's
a joke to you.
They were in an attic
there was no heat--
I don't care! This--
that's not our problem.
You're putting
our family in danger
do you understand that?
I don't like him
and he shouldn't be here.
This is fucking bullshit--
Hey, hey.
Hey, why don't we, uh--
why don't we eat some food?
Yeah?
Ma used to say a--
a prayer before we ate.
So if you guys don't mind.
Shanti, shanti, shanti.
I love Aloo Patchy.
Aloo-Aloo Bajji.
This reminds me
of eating at restaurants,
I miss restaurants.
I miss Cipriani's.
- Oh!
- Oh God the Italian.
I still remember
the day before.
we headed downtown
to get Creemees
because we just finished
our exams.
Hmm.
What's a Creemee?
Oh, it's um--
it's just like ice cream.
Oh, yeah.
It was the day right before
spring break,
so everyone was super excited.
There was these long lines
at the Creemee stands, and
and everyone was just filtering
down to the waterfront
to catch that sunset right
before everyone left to go home.
We were all at ease
and then everything changed.
There's still sunsets.
Yeah, well,
couldn't go anywhere.
And uh.
it was just mom, dad, and.
and me.
Vincent, how've you been
gettin' by?
My dad was a cop,
and so he had
a stockpile of weapons,
and he thought he could just
sort of fight his way out of it,
and, um he tried.
Uh, I did my best
to protect him, and
I can still hear him
trying to tell me to run.
This is really yummy.
Okay, so,
I mean,
if you're going to stay--
Who said I'm gonna stay?
- I've been fine.
- So you're not staying.
Can we just
get through a meal?
No I just think it's important
for us all to be together.
I mean, we need
strength in numbers.
Being alone is not gonna
- I mean-
- Babe.
if he doesn't want
to stay.
I think you should stay.
Babe.
I think he should.
We need more people.
Maybe we don't have to.
You know what I mean?
We don't have to--
I'm just trying to
get to know him!
If-- if you know,
if you're going to stay
and live with us
and be a part of this unit,
I want to know what
we're working with.
I mean, he said
he had weapons, Barbara.
I love weapons.
I saw that spear.
It's pretty cool.
- Oh, yeah.
- it's bedazzled.
If you're going to fight,
why not look good doing it?
This isn't the military!
But it is war, you know?
She's a sweetie
And I love her
She's a sweet girl,
ba ba ba-da-da-da!
Okay V has, like,
the worst taste in men.
I mean, this clown?
- Oh, my God
- I mean, I can't.
The dress fits perfect.
You like that?
You like this? Yeah!
Good girl.
I think we should keep her.
-Babe--
-Hey, before you say anything
look at these tiny feet!
They're so cute!
Those tiny feet
are going to get us killed.
Look, I-- I understand
why you were hesitant
before all of this.
-I can't--
-With school.
Oh, we're going back to--
-We're going back to school?
-Yes, yes, we're going back.
Babe, that's not--
.because there is
always something Hari.
This is not something.
This is it.
Okay? This is the end.
And I'm sorry,
but that is.
That is death.
Please don't say that.
We have seen what death looks
like out there Hari.
Yeah. I'm sorry.
Let's not fight. Okay.
I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry.
How long can it just be us?
She's a-- a chance.
She's going to depend on us
for everything.
And.
what if we don't make it?
What if we do?
I'm gonna go
make her some food.
know that in my family
when we lost our parents
it uh, gosh, it felt like the--
the guard towers fell,
you know? But, um.
but, you know, being
home with uh, with Hari
and with Rish, it--
It feels like I found
my fortress again.
Uh.
Mal-ho for life, you know?
I feel safe.
You still seem angry as ever.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
This coming from a man
who is wildly violent.
Violence fills me up now
I like it.
That's not a thing.
-Well.
-That's not a thing.
It works the
same way love does.
Didn't you mould
a little heart up there?
Is this the heart--
is this the Heart Space spot?
Oh that, yeah.
That is it. That's true.
Did you ever finish that?
I mean, what about you?
You're so together.
You do all this stuff.
"I have a podcast!"
"Everybody listens
to my podcast!"
You should listen
to my podcast.
-You would feel less--
-I do listen to your podcast.
What?
You listen?
Like you listen-listen.
-You listen?
-Like I listen. I listen,
I listen, I listen.
Yes, I listen!
Why do you keep calling it
a podcast?
It's on the radio.
You know Rish says that too.
Yeah, it's true.
Does it satisfy you?
It's a lot of work.
That's what you like.
-What?
-Work over connection.
Not over.
Work Is connection.
Yeah?
Kind of.
You remember
this little shack?
Yeah, I remember the shack.
You sure you want to come in?
Help me look.
All right.
Just keep an eye out, huh?
Vin!
Oh shit!
Come on. Let's go.
Oh!
-Shit!
-Come on.
Just leave it, I got it!
-We can't have to go.
-I'm good!
Let's go!
Shit, oh fuck.
I've got it!
-Just-- I'm fine!
-Vinny, Vinny!
-Ow!
-Vinny, Vinny, Vinny!
Leave me alone!
You've had a gun
this whole time?
Yeah.
And now I only have
two shots left.
-Ok, I'm fine.
-Listen to me.
You're hurt.
You just have to let me help
you, okay? Come on.
Trust me. Please.
Okay. Come on, come on.
Listen, I know that, uh.
kidding aside,
this shit can be
just utterly terrifying.
But the only way out
is through.
Uh and to stick together
and to.
and to keep your optimism up.
So, good luck out
there survivors.
Good luck.
-Oh my God, you guys okay?
-Jesus, what-what happened?
No I-- I'm fine.
It's just a sprain.
Yeah, we got ambushed
by a few of 'em.
These.
they looked different.
In what way?
Just faster.
Than the ones at night.
They seemed
more focused somehow.
I-- I told you guys they
are gonna start mutating.
None of you believed it.
Did they look like
recently bitten?
No, they look
like the others just.
.evolved.
Um, Barbara said
there might be a crib that--
in mom and dad's room.
Gonna go check.
Rish. Some help?
I am gonna go edit
yesterday's podcast.
You want help?
Hey, come on.
Come on.
Yeah.
The crib.
Oh, wait, look what I found.
Comin' up
for the New York Yankees
number eight, Rish Malhotra.
You remembered my number.
Carrom?
Ooh, yeah!
-With the little piece-
-Yeah, where's the red one?
Oh!
My God, look,
they look so young.
The Didn't Die podcast
is coming to
you live from my home town.
This is the 100th episode.
and it is bad.
Fuck.
-Hey.
-Hey.
Look what the cat dragged in.
-Hey.
-Sorry.
No. It's fine.
Figured you could
use a drink.
How's the podcast going?
Um well, it's not--
it's not really complete
because um.
you ruined it, so.
Oh, yeah.
There's that.
So it's just ruined?
That's right.
Here's to fixing stuff.
That's nice.
I could interview you.
This is-- is this.
I just put these on?
Did you just have a good idea?
I mean, I hope. We'll see.
Why's my mouth sound so wet?
Oh. It's wet.
-Yeah.
-It's-- that's wet.
You sound-your voice is nice.
Thank you.
Ladies and gentlemen,
thanks for hearing.
This is--
-Listen-- listening.
-Let me get through one.
-I'm so sorry.
-Hey guys!
Thank you for listening
to Didn't Die podcast.
The podcast.
I'm your new host,
DJ Wet. Mouth.
I need more of that.
-Upside?
-Whiskey.
Oh.
Here's to good voices
and wet mouths.
No, no, not to the wet--
Today I will be interviewing
someone that may have
a familiar voice.
It's the actual host
of this show, Vinita.
Are you okay?
Oh my God.
Ma's mangalsutra.
You know Nana ji gave this to Ma
on her wedding day.
She only wore it
on special occasions.
She wore it for
your first birthday.
-Can I-- can I hold it?
-Yeah.
Oh, it's so heavy.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm okay.
Umm.
No, that's-- that's not, uh.
That's not true.
I um.
Yeah. I'm--
I'm not okay.
I'm worried about the kid.
My little brother.
When um, everything started
Rish was the only one
who was at home.
You know,
when mom and I found dad,
she froze.
She--
She couldn't believe it.
She wouldn't believe it.
I don't think she could imagine
life without him.
I was supposed to come
back and help them
and I was busy.
She didn't even try.
He came after us and--
and she wouldn't run.
She just stood there.
I wasn't there.
I tried. I tried.
-I tried.
-I know.
-I tried.
-I know.
Hari wasn't there.
Now they're just out there.
They're just out there.
We weren't there for him.
He's never killed
a biter.
He's never killed one ever.
And I um.
I don't know how he's going to
handle everything now.
Now what do we do?
Now what do we--
Now what do we do?
You tell me DJ Wet Mouth.
It's okay,
it's ok sweetie.
Mmm.
Oh yeah, good,
good, good, good.
Good job!
You're so sweet.
Ohh.
Oh you got it.
What are we eating?
- Hi!
- Hi.
Mmm, V,
this outfit look familiar?
I. um.
It's yours.
You wore it at your feeding
ceremony,
and you were crying
the whole time.
-Feeding ceremony?
-Yeah feeding ceremony
when you were like six months.
There it goes, baby,
get it!
Good job!
Two shots left.
You guys can use em.
I think we should.
No.
No, absolutely not.
They're mutating.
What if they start
to remember us?
What-- what if they
come back here?
Just let them be
and let nature take its course.
What if they
hurt other people?
They're our parents.
Hari it's time.
Do you know
where they are?
Yeah.
I uh-drove around
looking for them
the uh, first day we got back.
You were right about the biters.
I'm--
I'm sorry we didn't
believe you.
I'm sorry too.
Ma, Papa.
Didn't die,
didn't die, didn't die.
Sometimes before I record
I read the introduction
over and over again,
and I find myself
saying the words
didn't die,
didn't die, didn't die,
so many times
until they lose all meaning.
Didn't die, didn't die.
Didn't die, didn't die,
didn't die, didn't die,
And eventually it just becomes
didn't I?
Shouldn't we be quiet?
Can I do your makeup?
It'll look so good.
It'll look so great oh my God.
Oh my God, I can't believe
you're letting me do this!
The vest is uh--
my vest looks good on you.
Thanks.
yeah, it works, it's not bad.
Beautiful dreamer
Wake unto me
Starlight and dewdrops
are waiting for thee
Sounds of the rude world
-Heard in the day
- Sing it Barb.
Lull'd by the moonlight
Have all passed away!
-Beautiful dreamer
-Beautiful dreamer
Come on, give it up!
Give it up for Barb guys,
seriously. Amazing.
Amazing.
I'm impressed.
Oh!
See? That's-- yeah.
No but that went
in though!
That went in though.
I'm impressed.
But it's a trick game.
Alright let's go Barbara.
Yeah!
Oh!
That's why I married her!
That's why I married her.
Bobby! Bobby come here.
You like 'em?
Sup Mal-ho's.
You guys alright?
Good to have you home.
The sage Vyasa
appeared before Yudhisthira
and consoled him.
You know what
that means consoled?
He made him feel better.
I know.
Even the most virtuous of men
have eventually been
consumed by death.
Grieve not over
the death of Abhimanyu.
Hey, are you sleepy?
What's going on?
He's saying listen
this is the best part.
Remember what Vyasa says.
Grieve not over
the death of Abhimanyu
for the one who is born,
is certain to die.
Bob, you're such a good boy.
Hi.
Hey, how's it going in there?
It's good.
Can I have a drag?
-You sure?
-Yeah.
It's been a long day
for all of us.
-Okay.
-Sorry.
Is, uh-is the baby sleeping or?
Yeah. Yeah.
She went down easy.
-Yeah?
-Yeah.
She's so sweet.
So I've been thinking.
I think she would be a perfect
addition to our family.
Really?
Are you serious right now?
We're going to be parents?
I love you.
I love you.
Okay, I need more champagne.
More champagne. Let's do it.
Come on Bobby!
-Come on Bobby.
-Let's go!
Hey, y'all!
Okay we have some big news.
We're gonna be parents!
Come here, babe.
Okay, I gotta stand watch,
though.
Come on.
I gotta stand watch,
though. Okay?
Yeah, okay.
Go to sleep.
Yeah.
Okay.
No, don't touch her!
Oh!
Oh, shit!
Fuck!
Go!
Get out of here!
Get out of here now!
Go!
V! Wait!
Take this with you.
Okay?
I love you both very much.
I love you.
They're coming
through the windows.
We gotta go. Come on!
Go!
Go.
Shit!
I didn't charge it.
Out back, to the boat.
Okay!
Go to the boat. Go to the boat.
Ah!
How do I stop?
Stop the bleeding
How do I stop?
Stop the needing
How do I stop?
Stop repeating
The cycle
The cycle of sabotage
Love shouldn't be this hard
To the worst being over.
Whenever I get this far
The best is yet to come.
Repeating the cycle,
the cycle
Open the blinds
Life is there
on the other side
-No darkness
-Rish!
Heaven knows my heart
- Oh, step in the wind
- Just go.
No, no, no, no.
Let it fill
all the emptiness
Mornings coming
It's okay.
Ssoon
How do I stop?
Stop the bleeding
How do I stop?
Stop the needing
We gotta go!
How do I stop?
Rish!
Stop repeating
The cycle, the cycle
- Rish!
How do I stop?
Stop the bleeding
How do I stop?
Stop the needing
How do I stop?
Stop repeating
The cycle
The cycle
Good evening
Mr. and Mrs. North America
and all the ships at sea.
Let's go to press.
Vincent!
What's up?
I found something on the radio
and it's really cool music!
Everybody's got a podcast
nowadays, huh?
-Yeah.
-High five.
Let's do it.
Hope
you're staying safe wherever
you're hiding out tonight.
It's such an honor to be
All right. Ready?
I'm gonna squeeze yours.
.on the 7th
anniversary of the Second Wave
We will never forget
the ones we lost.
- No?
- No.
-Nothing?
-Nothing.
All right.
Hand.
Oh!
Okay. That was good.
Vinita!
Hey, you know what.
She's just busy probably.
Come on back.
Yeah. Okay.
Good evening,
residents of Sector 7.
The curfew is still in effect.
Lights out at 10pm.
Hi!
Look what I found!
Where did you get that?
Um.
We found a scrap pile.
out near the bridge.
You took her outside?
Barely.
Barely outside.
It's okay.
Vincent.
You can't take her outside.
-It's not safe.
-She was safe--
When you relax like,
that's when you're the
most vulnerable.
She was safe.
What if she wasn't safe?
-Vin.
-She's just a kid.
What if she wasn't safe?
Vin.
It wasn't your fault.
It's okay.
You did your best.
We're still doing our best.
Show her how that radio works.
I hate the radio.
Well don't tell her that.
You okay?
Um.
Yeah.
Do you need a hug?
Yeah.
Let's just go for a walk.
Sure.
Okay.
-Here.
-Thanks.
-Want me to show you?
-Yeah.
Kick and kiss.
-Kick and kiss.
-That was a good one!
Thanks!
Let's do it together.
Kick and.
-kiss.
-Kiss.
Juniper make my gin
Wreath the room stayin' in
Winter wind
Sun setting early
Holly branch poisonous
But there it is
in front of us
And table set
and here we are, dearly
I've forgotten so long where
these memories come from
Could we gather
For song and sing sweetly
I'll hold on to this year
What to make of it
clearly no answers
embrace us completely
Holiday for a baby born
peacefully
Narcissus will blossom soon
Keep the green charge
the bloom
How we keep
and how we wound
Sincerely
Try again Love that song
Sang it as we drove along
Started out
our family there
Maybe
I've forgotten so long
Where these memories
come from
Could we gather
For song and sing sweetly
I'll hold on to this year
What to make of it
Clearly no answers
Embrace us completely
Holiday for a baby born
peacefully
Overhead stovetop light
Quite house gentle night
Feel your heat sleep beside
Dreaming
We three kings given hell
Same time next year too
soon to sell
'Cause we're all here
and that's the tell
Truly
I've forgotten so long where
these memories come from
Could we gather
For song and sing sweetly
I'll hold on to this year
What to make of it
clearly no answers
embrace us completely
Holiday for a baby born
peacefully
Holiday for a baby born
peacefully
Holiday for a baby born
peacefully
Peacefully
Peacefully
